Gov’s Cup: Uduaghan Urges Sustainability In Fitness, Sportsmanship

In furtherance of the Delta state Government House Inter-departmental Football Tournament, tagged “Governor’s Cup 2013”, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan has charged participating sportsmen to imbibe the spirit of fairness in following the rules of the competition.

The governor gave the charge on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at the opening ceremony of the 2013 Government House Inter-departmental Football Tournament in Asaba,

He explained that the tournament which is meant to help the staff keep fit and healthy, had earned tremendous improvement in terms of staff participation in the highly applauded competition.

Governor Uduaghan who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House and Protocol, Dr. Festus Okubor however commended the senior management of the Directorate for sustaining the competition since its inception.

The governor charged all Departmental Heads in the directorate to ensure that non-participating staff were at the football field to support and cheer-up their teams during the competition.

“I want to congratulate the senior management of Government House and Protocol for sustaining this competition since its inception. I have seen great improvement from the staff as they are all willing to participate every year.

“In every competition, the spectators are also very important therefore it is imperative that all departmental heads in the directorate should ensure that non-participating staff are at the field to support and cheer on the teams”.

In a brief remark, the Permanent Secretary, Government House and Protocol, Mr. Anthony Obuh who was represented by a Director in the directorate, Mr. Tony Nwakolobia stated that the competition was created by Governor Uduaghan to show support for the well being of the staff of the Directorate and enjoined the teams to take the tournament very seriously.

The opening match of the tournament was between the Police Department’s team “Police Machine” and the Administrative Department’s team “Admin Bureaucrats”.

The game however ended with the Police Machine defeating the Admin Bureaucrats 1-0.
