Ademola Lookman ends Leverkusen unbeaten run

By Shedrack Udu,PGD.

London born Nigeria international and a 2022 signing from German side RB Leipzig scored a sensational hattrick as Atalanta ended a 61 year trophy drought to end Bayer Leverkusen 51 games unbeaten season in the Europa League final on Wednesday May 22,2024 in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.

It is Atalanta first European final. The former Chalton Athletic, Everton, Fulham and Leicester man is the sixth player to score a hat trick in a European final and the first since 1975. The last was all the way back in the 1975 UEFA cup final by Jupp Heynkes for Borussia Monchegladbach.

Kudos to Gian Piero Gasperini tactical masterclass and Lookman, Atalanta now have a second trophy to add next to the 1963 Coppa Italia in their Cabinet in Bergamo and a champions league place in next season.
