The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it would commence the sales of its registration forms for 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from January 13, to February 17.
This was made known by Fabian Benjamin, the head, media and information of the board, to NAN on Sunday in Lagos.
He said arrangements for the commencement of the sales of the documents nationwide had been concluded and that over 650 computer-based test (CBT) centres have so far been accredited for its upcoming examination.
“We are set to go. Logistics have been put in place to ensure a smooth process,” he said.
“Like you may know, over 650 CBT centres have been accredited for this year’s examination and the board expects nothing short of the best practices.
“We have clearly defined the process, just like we have also put mechanism in place that will address any challenge or challenges that may arise before, during and even after the examination.
“We also want to emphasise the fact that there is no going back on the use of the National Identification Number (NIN), for the acquisition of the registration documents by prospective candidates.”
“My advice to the candidates ahead of the registration is to ensure that they seek advice or help from officials of the board,” he said.
“They should not involve third parties. They should always ensure too that they secure their personal data.
“They should not disclose it to anyone, not even the JAMB officials, because doing so could lead to mutilation of their records and other implications that could affect them much later in life.
“The board also wishes to state that the sale of Direct Entry forms closes same day as the UTME forms. There will be no extension.”
The board had earlier fixed this year’s examination for March 14 to April 4, while an optional mock examination for candidates is scheduled for February 18.

Iran’s most powerful military commander, General Qasem Soleimani, has been killed by a US air strike in Iraq.
The 62-year old spearheaded Iranian military operations in the Middle East as head of Iran’s elite Quds Force.
He was killed at Baghdad airport, alongside local Iran-backed militias, early on Friday in a strike ordered by US President Donald Trump.
Gen Soleimani’s killing marks a major escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Under his leadership, Iran had bolstered Hezbollah in Lebanon and other pro-Iranian militant groups, expanded Iran’s military presence in Iraq and Syria and orchestrated Syria’s offensive against rebel groups in the country’s long civil war.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said “severe revenge awaits the criminals” behind the attack. He also announced three days of national mourning.
Gen Soleimani was widely seen as the second most powerful figure in Iran behind the Ayatollah Khamenei. His Quds Force, an elite unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, reported directly to the ayatollah and he was hailed as a heroic national figure.
President Trump, who was in Florida at the time of the strike, tweeted an image of the American flag shortly after the news broke.
A statement from the Pentagon – the headquarters of the US Department of Defense – said Gen Soleimani had been “developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region”.
“This strike was aimed at deterring future Iranian attack plans,” it added.
Meanwhile, global oil prices have soared by more than 4% in the wake of the attack.
What happened?
Gen Soleimani and officials from Iran-backed militias were leaving Baghdad airport in two cars when they were hit by a US drone strike near a cargo area.
The commander had reportedly flown in from Lebanon or Syria. Several missiles struck the convoy and at least seven people are believed to have died.
Image captionAbu Mahdi al-Muhandis (centre) was also killed in Friday’s strike
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Iraqi militia leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis was among those killed.
Muhandis commanded the Iranian-backed Kataib Hezbollah group, which Washington blamed for a rocket attack which killed a US civilian contractor in northern Iraq last Friday.
He also effectively led the Popular Mobilisation units, an umbrella of militias in Iraq dominated by groups aligned with Iran.
The Pentagon statement said: “At the direction of the president, the US military has taken decisive defensive action to protect US personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani.”
It added: “The United States will continue to take all necessary action to protect our people and our interests wherever they are around the world.”
The drone strike comes days after protesters attacked the US embassy in Baghdad, clashing with US forces at the scene. The Pentagon said Gen Soleimani approved the attacks on the embassy.
Iran’s most powerful military figure was regarded as the strategic mastermind behind its vast ambition in the Middle East and the country’s real foreign minister when it came to matters of war and peace.
As commander of elite special forces, he orchestrated covert operations, involving a web of proxy militias, across the region. He also commanded political influence inside Iran and was regarded as second only to Iran’s all-powerful Supreme Leader.
He was widely considered a principal architect of President Bashar al-Assad’s war in Syria, the ongoing conflict in Iraq, the fight against Islamic State, and many battles beyond.
The silver-haired general with a close-cropped beard was a cult hero for his fighters and the face of evil for his foes. For years, US officials considered killing a cunning adversary who ordered attacks on their forces and taunted them with social media barbs.
At times some of their aims were aligned, including in the fight against Islamic State, but they remained sworn enemies.
Iranian officials are categorical – this is an act of war to be met by “harsh retaliation”. Iran has many ways and means to strike back as a long-simmering crisis suddenly moves to a new, dangerous chapter.
How has Iran responded?
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, called the attack an “act of international terrorism”, tweeting that the US “bears responsibility for all consequences of its rogue adventurism.”Report
Mohsen Rezaei, the former commander of the Revolutionary Guards, said Iran would take “vigorous revenge on America”. A spokesman for the Iranian government said the country’s top security body would meet in a few hours to discuss the “criminal act of attack”.
“Iran and the other free nations of the region will take revenge for this gruesome crime from criminal America,” President Hasan Rouhani said in a statement.
His death has “redoubled the determination of the nation of Iran and other free nations to stand against America’s bullying”, he added.
In other reaction:
Iraq’s Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi condemned the “assassination” of Gen Soleimani as a “dangerous escalation” of regional tensions
Russia said the attack was a “murder” and a “reckless step” by the US
Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah group called for Gen Soleimani’s death to be avenged
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cut short a trip to Greece following the strike
In Washington, senior members of President Trump’s Republican Party welcomed the news. Top House Republican Kevin McCarthy said the strike was a “display of resolve and strength”.
But Democrats were critical. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the move risked “dangerous escalation” and suggested Congress should have been consulted.
Who was Qasem Soleimani?
From 1998, Maj Gen Qasem Soleimani led Iran’s Quds Force which handles clandestine operations abroad.
Iran has acknowledged the role of the Quds Force in the conflicts in Syria, where it has advised forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad and armed thousands of Shia Muslim militiamen fighting alongside them, and in Iraq, where it has backed a Shia-dominated paramilitary force that helped tackle IS.
These conflicts turned the once-reclusive Gen Soleimani into a something of celebrity in Iran.
The Trump administration has alleged that the Quds Force is “Iran’s primary mechanism for cultivating and supporting” US-designated terrorist groups across the Middle East – including Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement and Palestinian Islamic Jihad – by providing funding, training, weapons and equipment.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo designated Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and its Quds Force as foreign terrorist organisations in April.

As you are well aware, ours is a major plank of the Stronger Delta policy of the Government and we are therefore poised for greater accomplishments despite our peculiar challenges as oil producing communities.

In effect, it behoves on the community leaders to report all noticeable shoddy jobs by our contractors to us for sanctions and possible determination.
“Let me reassure our staff of management’s continuous readiness to ensure that their welfare is of utmost importance and that all due entitlements will be accorded them. The governor told the commissioners that he will not entertain any submission to fund any project or programme that is not provided for in the budget.
The governor had presented his first budget of N134.5 on December 2, 2019 to the state assembly and the lawmakers passed the budget on December 23 with an adjustment to N146.8 billion.

Like a bolt out of the blues, the news coming in from the office of the minister of Justice and the Attorney General of the federation, Abubakar Malami, was swift, thunderous and appears unbelievable:but it was true. The incarcerated leader of the REVOLUTION NOW movement, Omoyele Sowore, have been left off the hook. Like my old school mate called it, he became a “Hamper for Christmas” for every lover of Justice, human rights, the rule of law, you name it.
The news has become a part of this season of celebration, the Christmas eve. This government got the timing right and the emotional game intact. Even though it was an equal and opposite display of a collective emotion, it could be likened to the death of indefatigable Gen Murtala Mohammed, “who knew” when to go when the ovation is loudest. Every patriotic citizen, then, called for justice and vengeance. Just because the former head of state “knew the trick” of dying.
This time around, our collective emotion is a positive one. The sweetness and swiftness of the pleasant news attempts to throw reasons over board while slaughtering judicial deligence in the alter of a temporary euphoria. But this is okay even if it doesn’t sound so: at least, the primary victims of this unlawful incarceration, especially Sowore’s immediate family, will breath a sigh of relief and enjoy yuletide in ‘peace’.
But there’s something sinister about the comments of the attorney General. With the risk of sounding immodest, pessimistic or being tagged a killjoy, the AG’s reference to the provisions of the section 169 of the criminal administration act of 2015, got me jittery.
He said: “… I am also not unmindful of the rights of the complainant /Prosecution to appeal or further challenge the grant of bail by the court having regard to Extant legal provisions, particularly section 169 of the administration of criminal justice act, 2015… “. I love to hear legal matters even if I am a novice in that field. This is why you have to pardon my seemingly innocuous question here: please is there no provision in our law, too, granting Sowore the right to question his second arrest in court after he was duly granted bail?
Let us enjoy the season and wish Sowore and others a merry Christmas and a prosperously free new year.

In the same vein, the Chairman of the Local Government, Comrade Uche Osadebe, stressed the need for the local government to continue in its peaceful disposition and support towards the Okowa administration to attract more development.
The Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu has urged Nigerians to use the occasion of Christmas, the celebration of the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, to rekindle their love and respect for one another as well as pray for harmonious coexistence in the country.
According to a Statement made available to Journalists, the Minority Leader, also admonished Nigerians to use the Christmas and yuletide season to forgive one another, eschew all divisive tendencies and rededicate themselves to acts that bring peace, unite and bind us together as one people.
Elumelu noted that Christmas underlines the infinite love and generosity of the Almighty God, which he distinctively demonstrated in the gift of his precious son, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice to bring salvation to humanity, despite our shortcomings.
“Indeed, Our unity and advancement as a people are strengthened when we appreciate God’s love, forgiveness and kindness, which he demonstrated through the birth of Jesus Christ into the world.
“In descending from his heavenly glory to this earthly realm, Christ demonstrated humility, love and selflessness. Christmas offers us a strong message to imbibe these virtues in our individual and collective endeavors. Such is the sure pathway to surmounting our challenges and moving forward as a nation.
Elumelu therefore urged Nigerians to use the period to share with one another and reach out to those who are hurting in one way or the other, so that the joy of the period is spread across board.
He also entreated those behind the mindless violence, killings, kidnapping and marauding in the land to have a rethink, as their actions cannot be justified under any guise.
Elumelu however assured Nigerians of the commitment of the Minority Caucus of House of Representatives in protecting their interest at all times.
On behalf of the Minority Caucus, Elumelu prayed for the safety of all and wished Nigerians joyful Christmas and yuletide celebrations.
There’s no denying the fact that a larger part of Nigeria’s many knotty problems is the elites’ hegemonic tussle and fragmentation. The fight for relevance and inclusion is usually fierce and thrives on subterfuge and blackmail. What with the recent “Ibadan speech” of the legendary Soldier and multi-billionaire Army General and civil war veteran, Gen T Y Danjuma, which turned out to be a slip!
He was alleged to have berated the yoruba nation for her new found taciturnity as opposed to the era that produced vibrant social engineers and critics like, Wole Soyinka, Tai Solarin, Baba Omojola, Gani Fawehinmi, Beko Ransome-Kuti, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Olu Onagoruwa, Olusegun Maiyegun to mention but a few.
The most controversial was when he offered to be silent than to spill his cocooned knowledge of the underbelly of evil, bedeviling our nation in recent times. This has elicited unpleasant and unprecedented responses accross the board.
To some, Danjuma is too deep a part of the problem than to become a part of the solution. These owes largely to his role as a prominent progeny of the abnormal military phenomenon and its retrogressive contributions to the political development of our country, Nigeria.
Those who have been referred to as the vindictive and “unrepentant tribalists” bemoaningly reminded us about his infamous civil war exploits as he fought along side the same ethnic Hausa-Fulani (who are ravaging his ethnic Jukun land with impunity today) against the Ibos of Eastern Nigeria. They felt he deserved what he gets.
Above all, those of us who took it from the prism of a ravaging age long war of hegemony and domination by the cyclical Nigerian elites, saw T Y Danjuma’s outburst and premonitions as a fall out of a lost ‘feudal battle’ between a domineering fragment of the elites and her victims.
Each political dispensation in Nigeria, throws up its own fragment of Elites. While some are largely recycled, others are stooges of the old scions who are too physically weak to participate yet too wise to be represented by proxy in the scheme of things.
They are one solid indivisible pack when the going is good: they keep mum and mute when there’s food in their mouth. But they suddenly turn villains, outspoken, revolutionary and patriotic when the music turns into a war song. This is why, like TY Danjuma just did, they threatened to spill the beans to curry Favour from the emasculated citizenry while securing a basis for a possible negotiation from the predatory fragment of the ruling elite.
In Africa, Elders do not say what they are not ready to unveil: they either keep mum till the grave or spill it and be damned. We must all beg the ebullient soldier to say what he could have love to say. Perhaps, he might just say something a little more different from what we know. He was too involved to tell us a lie. TY, please speak out.

The 45th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has been impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
US House of Representatives impeached Trump on both Articles of impeachment on Wednesday, December 18, 2019.
Meanwhile, Trump has described his impeachment as both illegal and unconstitutional.
He becomes the third President to be impeached by the US House.
White House says Trump is convenient that Senate will restore order.
Richard Nixon was first American President to be impeached while Bill Clinton was impeached over lying about an alleged extra marital affairs.
The House voted on two charges – that the president abused his power and that he had obstructed Congress.
Both votes fell along party lines with nearly all Democrats voting for the charges and all Republicans against.
As voting took place, President Trump was addressing a campaign rally.
He told the crowd in Battle Creek, Michigan: “While we’re creating jobs and fighting for Michigan, the radical left in Congress is consumed with envy and hatred and rage, you see what’s going on.”
The White House released a statement saying that the president was “confident that he will be fully exonerated” in a Senate trial.
At about 20:30 local time (01:30 GMT), the House called for votes on the two charges: first, abuse of power, stemming from Mr Trump’s alleged attempt to pressure Ukraine to announce investigations into his Democratic political rival, Joe Biden; and second, obstruction of Congress, because the president allegedly refused to co-operate with the impeachment inquiry, withholding documentary evidence and barring his key aides from giving evidence.
Democrats were reportedly instructed by Ms Nancy Pelosi to treat the process solemnly. She told reporters outside the chamber she was “sad” about the proceedings, and a number of Democrats reflected on their disappointment at being involved in impeachment proceedings.
Nancy P3losi
Across the country in the 24 hours leading up to the vote, pro-impeachment protesters took to the streets. Hundreds of people gathered in Times Square in New York on Tuesday night, chanting: “Tell me who’s above the law? Nobody is above the law!”
The president had made an extraordinary intervention on the eve of Wednesday’s vote, penning an irate six-page letter to Ms Pelosi accusing her of declaring “open war on American democracy”.
In the letter, which was published by the White House, the president claimed he had been “deprived of basic Constitutional Due Process from the beginning of this impeachment scam”. He was in fact publicly invited by the Democratic chair of the House Judiciary Committee to give evidence, a move that would also have allowed his legal team to question witnesses, but he declined.
Summary
Donald Trump becomes the third US president in history to be impeached
The Democratic-led House voted in favour of two articles of impeachment – abuse of power and obstruction of Congress
He was accused of trying to extract political favours from Ukraine by withholding military aid
Addressing supporters at a rally in Michigan, Mr Trump said Democrats will be punished at the 2020 election
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said it was “tragic” his “reckless actions” made this necessary. “He gave us no choice.”
The next stage is a Senate trial in January, where he will probably be acquitted – as were predecessors Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu has said with the new
flight operations of Azman Air to and from Asaba Airport, the investment by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in upgrading facilities in the airport was well made.
Aniagwu stated this when an indigenous aircraft, Azman Air, Boeing 737, marked SN-AIS touched down the airports runway at exactly 4.25 p.m on Sunday 15th December, 2019.
The Delta Information boss, who was at hand with other officials of the State Government to witness the landing, described the AZMAN flight, which heralds the commencement of official use of Asaba Airport by the airline as one of the payoffs from the development efforts of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Unlike a child learning how to walk, Gov Makinde’s steps were firm, steady and promising from the very beginning. His audacious disposition drew the irk of those who thought he was not real, especially in the days when governance has become a joke and governmental policies are largely anti-people.
There are those who argues that his often uncommon moves are a shot at cheap populism and a paradigm shift gone awry. Thus, they are waiting for him to make the wrong move and fizzle out. But Makinde’s mindset, demeanour, disposition, audacity and zest to carry out what he believes in, is gathering momentum by the day and the people are at home with him.
He’s a shining example and a study of how a youthful heart should think amidst the prevalence and preference for the destructive politics of greed, hate, prebendalism and primitive acquisition and accumulation of the common patrimony, thievery and the orthodoxy of governance bestriding the nation.
In the days where former governors are being hunted and hauled into jail for greed, avarice and abuse of public trust, Makinde is here, tantalizing the collective pulse of his people, rubbing their ego and giving them the rare opportunity to dream again just as it use to be, from the beginning especially in the West, in the days of Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the old western region.
His audacious declaration of asset shook the political landscape beyond Oyo state and elicited commendations from far and wide. This equally attracted enough public bile from uncomfortable reactionary quaters that have held Oyo state in the jugular in recent years; which is why they dismissed such selfless move as the initial excitement of a moth around a flicker of light in the darkest of nights.
But nine months is gone, the story is still the same: an avalanche of people oriented policies and programs hitherto considered alien in this clime, are being implemented daily.
From the prompt payments of Pensioners monthly entitlements (which was a wide departure from the frustrating modulated system of his predecessor) to the declaration of free education in public schools in Oyo state, it has been an unending stream of the good, better and the best: a dawn of a new day for the ordinary people of the state.
Gov Seyi Makinde sure knows how to apply the balm to an ailing part. His declaration recently of his willingness to pay “the 13th month” salary (double pay)this December, at a festive period when workers are saddled with elasticated demands, shows that this youthful governor has an ear to the ground to hear the real cry of the real people under his care.
Every sector is being touched, every people oriented issue is being looked into all in nine months. How I wish this writer has the privilege of being under a people oriented governor like Seyi Makinde and not under an Agbada cladding goon who superintend over a mayoralty of an over valued landscape, while chasing the natives farther away into the bushes of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. Keep the flag flying, Seyi Makinde.

“A capacity assessment exercise is ongoing across the MDAs, while the state and others across Nigeria are in the process of adopting a shared or common platform for the introduction and practice of e-procurement at the State and at the federal levels, with support of the World Bank.”
In a lecture presented by Mr. James Owolabi, an overview of the Delta State public procurement law 2016, alongside new information in public procurement practice.was presented to the stakeholders, who engaged the Commission in an interactive session.

Dr. Isah Abubakar said that the award was conferred on Bashorun Ogieh because of his humanitarian services over the years, disclosing that he had been a major donor to the council, who has helped greatly in touching the lives of the women and youths, across the country, thereby lifting them from abject poverty.
“The leadership of the council believes that Bashorun Askia Ogieh falls in the same historical line with Sir Ahmadu Bello, who was always on our minds, whilst his nomination for this prestigious award was being made,” he said.
The Youth Council President, further stated that the honour was based on the leadership style that Bashorun Ogieh has displayed in the discharge of his duties over the years, adding that he has also helped in building lives, through various empowerment programmes.

The truism that no matter how a black anthill is disturbed from rising to its peak, it would still wear its natural cap, even stunted in growth, came to the fore during the 2019 Delta State NUJ Press Week / Lectures/ Award/ Fund Raising , held at the David’s Event Centre in Asaba. It is also true that no matter how one determinedly tries to submerge a calabash in the river, even broken it would resurface after its tribulations !
Comrade Osita Biose, aka Ojogu, is an archetypal of those putting in their best in the society towards the uplifting of humanity, but whose efforts are either derided or ignored as insignificant. But a golden fish is never hidden in a shallow water. Such is Comrade Biose’s quintessence, which glowed so much that the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Delta State thought it wise to announce it to the public through an award.
Presenting Comrade Biose with the prestigious award of “The Worthy Peace Ambassador Of NUJ” during the well attended occasion, the Chairman of the Delta State Council of NUJ, Comrade Mike Ikeogwu, maintained that Comrade Biose laid the foundation of the prevailing peace upon which the union is fast growing in the state, noting that it was proper to recognise the source of the unity of purpose in the union after many years of rancour and bickering among members of the union in the state, just as he thanked Comrade Biose for his untiring support for the union in the state and beyond.
Responding, Comrade Biose, who was visibly surprised with the announcement of the award for him, thanked the leadership of the union in the state for deeming him worthy of the award, adding that he had burning passion to see the union grow to greater heights in an atmosphere of peace in the state and beyond, just as he said that the award would spur him to do more for the union.
The NUJ Peace Ambassador enjoined members to always rally round the leadership of the union, saying that no human is infallible, even as he urged the leadership of the union to be responsive, accountable and exhibit high sense of integrity towards creating the much needed trust and confidence of members, which he said was necessary for the growth of the union in the state and beyond.
Indeed, it was a great moment for the union in the state ! Comrade Biose, a one time Chairman of the State Council of NUJ, deserves the award for not only returning lasting peace to the council of the NUJ when he presided, but for working assiduously in nurturing the peaceful coordination of the various chapels of the union in the state. Congratulations, Ojogu !
The Delta State Government has appealed to protesting Core Area 2B Landlords Association whose property were demolished by suspected agents an Asaba-based company over ownership of lands in the area.
The landlords numbering no fewer than 100 mounted protest at the main gate of Government House on Thursday, calling on the government to wade into the matter.
They said that the “agents’’ had in the past one month been demolishing houses and other property in the area on grounds their principal won a suit over the area.
They claimed that those responsible for the act had threatened to return on Friday to continue the demolition.
In a protest letter addressed to Secretary to the State Government, Mr Chiedu Ebie, and signed by their Chairman, Mr Odiaka Sonwu and Secretary, Mr Charles Umejei, the protesters said “We are law-abiding citizens of Delta who bought lands and built our houses opposite Asaba Airport, Vanguard Area and Marble Hill in Okpanam.
“In 2016 and 2017, the State Government gave us a notice that the entire area had been acquired by government, and that led to some negotiations and the government asked us to pay Regularisation fees and get Certificate of Occupancy (CofO).
“However, on May 5, 2019, a certain fellow came up with a seven-day notice that the same area belongs to former Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, who bought the land from Umuodafe, Ibusa.
“He added that Umuodafe Ibusa defeated Okpanam community in the Supreme Court, as such that his principal has 240 plots of land in the same area.’’
They added that the new claimer to ownership of the land led hoodlums and armed policemen to invade and bulldoze over 100 homes on Nov. 20, 2019.
“So we have come here today to register our frustrations on the unfavourable condition of living and to prevent future occurrence while we wait for the law to take its full course,” they stated in the letter.
Addressing them, the SSG, Mr Chiedu Ebie, in company with Commissioners for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, his Lands counterpart, Mr Churchill Amagada and Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, thanked the protesters for their peaceful conduct.
He promised that government would look into their complaints with a view to resolving all issues.
“As a government, we have a responsibility to continue to provide for our citizens and to protect lives and property.
“As you know, we all live, exist and co-exist within the ambit of the law, so we are going to look at this.
“We heard about the demolitions and if somebody has a judgement, he must execute such judgment within the confines of the law.
“But, if there are ulterior motives for the demolition, be assured that as a government and as a state, we will protect you at all times.
“The best thing we need to do now is to sit down with all stakeholders and look at the documents to find out who has valid title to the disputed lands,” he said. Ebie, therefore, advised the people to send some representatives to his office to discuss the issues immediately

– Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) – By Austen AKHAGEME:
Citizen Omoyele Sowore was never my delight; not with the too many controversies and litigations sorrounding him, especially in his most fiery days, during the Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
To me, he was the loudest trumpeter of the perceived woes of the Jonathan’s administration. From the accusations of financial misappropriation of public funds to the outright embezzlement of the same; from the accusation of executive filthiness and illiteracy of the erstwhile first Lady, to the alleged drunkenness of GEJ such that he could not stand up to address an international audience, Sowore and his Sahara Reporters were in their element, hauling stones at the Goodluck Jonathan’s regime all to the sweet grin, approval and comfort of the then Gen Mohammadu Buhari and his teeming supporters.
So, bringing any real or imagined enemy down to the advantage of Gen Buhari then, was a task that must be done. Thus, Omoyele Sowore became the towering predator while the taciturn President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was the weepy victim.
And so, President Jonathan left the saddle glowingly, but with his tail tucked between his legs, headed for Otuoke, his country home to lick his wounds. Omoyele Sowore became disillusioned with the first tenure of his paymaster and decided to try his luck, floated a political party to contest against his preferred candidate of yore. He failed.
Then his benevolent gods gave him a good idea and a people’s delight. But he took the strategy of his malevolent gods and declared ‘a revolution’ against a state headed by an experienced coupist- turned politician. This was the ‘suicidal mission’ that became his greatest undoing.
The above story has become the reason why some folks erroneously thought Sowore should be allowed to carry his cross until he gets to Golgotha. And this is wrong. To say that Sowore deserves the ill human treatment meted to him by the DSS and the establishment against judicial pronouncements to the contrary is patriotism turned upside down.
The battle is no longer that of Sowore alone. To understand and accept this is to tow the lonely path of reason, justice, humanity, love and Patriotism in a time when the jackals hold sway. Sowore, just like Dino Melaye, may be ‘rascals’ of different shades and genre, but the shock treatment they received exposed the hidden shenanigans and the underbelly malfeasance of the state and her apparatuses.
The Nigerian Bar Association described it as “exhibition of primitivity, thuggery and insane passion for lawlessness” by the law enforcement agents who invaded the Holy precincts of Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu’s High Court in Abuja.
This outcry, as exemplified by the NBA, is what everyone should do and not to gloat at Sowore and his predicament while standing aloof to the ugly future steering at us in the face. Raising our collective voice against oppression and lawlessness is not in any way, a tacit support to Sowore’s action and that of his co-travellers. It is time to look beyond Omoyele Sowore to the looming doom and the deliberate emasculation of the inalienable rights of all Nigerians in all its ramification.

Wife of Delta State Governor and founder of 05 Initiative, Dame Edith Okowa, has described women as custodians of norms, values and builders of homes, thereby encouraging them to be adherents of Biblical Esther for positive change in the society.
The governor’s wife, who hosted Wives of Traditional Rulers in Delta State to an annual Yuletide treat at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba on Thursday, 5th December, 2019, enjoined the Royal mothers to sustain their roles as positive change agents by imbibing valuable Bible principles in the administration of their domains.
“You are not just wearing Crowns because of your beauty. God made man and created a help-mate for him, your assignment is to see your husband succeed. You should rise up to the task of making a change. God is asking me to tell you what will make your Kingdom better.”
While encouraging them not to misuse their authority in assisting the Traditional Rulers to succeed, she encouraged them to instead be genuine advocates of God’s standard as it concerns Queens in the Bible.
“Instead of encouraging your husbands into wicked acts, ensure that they engage in good deeds which will outlive their reign.”
Dame Okowa however, expressed concerns on the present decadence among youths and berated mothers who give support to their Children to venture into criminal activities, reminding them that they are only custodians of such children and will give account to God on how they catered for them.
She therefore preached the message of repentance and Christ to the Royal Mothers, urging them to seek Jesus and be contended with what they have because “knowing Jesus gives satisfaction”.
Earlier, in her welcome address, the Director General, O5 Initiative and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Oghenekevwe Agas thanked the Royal Mothers for their attendance, adding that, it was another opportunity for them to offer their advise as it concerns affairs in the state and celebrate the Christmas with the wife of the Governor.

The Lord made you queen for the sake of your people, you have the opportunity to affect your Kingdom positively.”
Taking her key scriptural text from the book of Esther 2:15, She urged them to emulate the leadership style of Queen Esther and preach Christ in their Kingdom, advising that, they should go against vices perpetrated by evil doers and not conspire with their husband to do harm to the people or stir him to indulge in wickedness just as Queen Jezebel did with King Ahab.
Wife of Uvwie Monarch, Queen Patricia Sideso in a vote of thanks on behalf of the Royal Mothers, appreciated Dame Okowa for always showing care to them and prayed that she will not grow tired even as they look to December 2020 for yet another gathering. “Our Daughter, thank you very much.”

*** Says #500 Million Lawsuit Against Opeans Executive Director For Defamation Of Character Has Commenced
The Managing Director of Lym Consults Nigeria Limited, Mr. Larry Otu has challenged the Executive Director of Opeans Nigeria Limited, Ben Obi Nwoye whose Company Opeans Nigeria Limited premises was recently sealed up by the EFCC to display his IADC Accreditation for all to see, insisting that Opeans Nigeria Limited is Not IADC Approved.
The management of Opeans Nigeria Limited Dr. Ben Nwoye operators of Opeans Safety Training Centre at Opete near Warri in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State has debunked the alleged sealing of its Warri training centre by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Nwoye said, though some staff of the company were arrested to EFCC Zonal Office in Benin over a petition alleging that the company was issuing International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) certificates without approval.
Dr. Ben Nwoye described the allegation against the company as frivolous and lacks any iota of truth, explaining that the company’s staff arrested by operatives of the anti-graft agency have been released.
He also stated that the company was fully authorised and certified for operations by DPR and other safety regulating agencies. He added that the company had never been involved in any form of fraudulent practices since its existence.
Nwoye, who is the chairman of the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), accused the Managing Director of Lym Consults Nigeria Limited, Mr. Larry Otu of writing the petition against his company with intent to monopolize safety training in Warri.
But, the Managing Director of Lym Consults Nigeria Limited, Mr. Larry Otu when contacted said that he would not have joined issues with a person like Benjamin Obi Nwoye who had been disbarred from practicing law by the Supreme Court of Illinois, US due all to all form of sharp practices.
He said; “However, the issues raised by Ben Nwoye should be addressed. That, on the 30th of January, 2018 when the Police from Force Headquarters in Asaba invited him due to a petition Benjamin Nwoye wrote alleging attempt to kidnap and threat to life that he honoured the invitation. That, after the interview/meeting with the Police, which Ben Nwoye was part of, the Police asked Ben Nwoye to produce the text messages and his phone for forensic analysis if there was actually any attempt by me to kidnap him. That Ben Nwoye ran away. Till this day, Ben Nwoye has never returned to the Police to produce any evidence, or his phone for analysis by the Police. Ben Nwoye was only trying to use the Police to intimidate him because he was working so hard at that time to get my company, Lym Consults Nigeria Limited OPITO approved. Ben Nwoye who had been in the training business since 1988 could not imagine that a young company like us was heading for global certification”.
He disclosed that he has asked his lawyers to petition the Nigeria Police Force to investigate false information provided to them (the Police) by Ben Nwoye, adding that his legal team has commenced a 500 million Naira lawsuit against Ben Nwoye for defamation of character.
Commenting on the issue of EFCC investigating Opeans Nigeria Limited over the IADC certificate forgery, he said that, himself, any other training provider, or the DPR who now know that Ben Nwoye and Opeans Nigeria Limited are issuing forged and fraudulent IADC certificates and defrauding millions of Naira from Oil and Gas workers could have petitioned the EFCC.
According to him; “We all know the position of President Buhari and the current leadership of the EFCC on corruption. That issues bothering on corruption and fraud are not handled with kids glove. If Ben Nwoye and Opeans Nigeria Limited truly have IADC Accreditation to offer BOSIET, HUET and SAS trainings, which they have been doing for years, they should not be crying on the pages of newspaper or social media. But, they should simply display their ‘IADC Accreditation’ for all to see”.
“Let me make it firm to Ben Nwoye that he cannot intimidate me with his position as the Chairman of APC in Enugu State. I cannot even address him as Doctor, because I know if I challenged him to produce his PhD certificate, he might not be able to. I will only address him as Doctor Ben Nwoye when I see and verify his PhD certificate. Ben Nwoye was disbarred from practicing law by the Supreme Court of Illinois in the US, ask him why? That is why it has being difficult for someone like me to joined issues with such character”.
“I am emphatic that Opeans Nigeria Limited does not have any IADC Accreditation, neither have they ever been accredited by IADC for any course or program to issue any certificate. All ‘IADC Approved’ certificates that have been issued by Opeans Nigeria Limited to Oil and Gas workers are fake, forged and fraudulent”. The IADC has denied that Opeans Nigeria Limited is an IADC Accredited Training Provider. If Opeans Nigeria Limited is an IADC Accredited Training Provider as claimed on certificates being issued by the Company, Ben Nwoye who is the Executive Director should simply show the Nigeria Oil and Gas industry and Nigerians the IADC Approval/certificate issued to his company“. The IADC Member logo being used on training certificates by Opeans Nigeria Limited is an abuse of the IADC logo policy, please verify this directly on the IADC website www.iadc.org/logo-usage-guidelines/
The accusation that an employee of Shell died at Lym Consults Nigeria Limited Training Center is a lie, and totally misleading. No employee of Shell or its contractor has never died during training sessions with us. Lym Consults Nigeria Limited has subjected its entire training systems to global standard, hence we are the only OPITO Approved training Center in Delta State. OPITO Approved certificates issued at Lym Consults’ Training Center are accepted in the global Oil and Gas Industry, because OPITO is the Industry-owned global standard for training and skills. OPITO Standards are put together by the entire global Oil and Gas Industry. ”Instead of Ben Nwoye and his Company Opeans Nigeria Limited to follow the path of hardworking Companies in the Nigeria Oil and Gas industry who have invested in the necessary infrastructure and human capital to achieve global certifications for training and skills, they have chosen the path of certificate forgery. Thereby, compromising the safety of workers in the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry.
The Department of Petroleum Resources DPR that Ben Nwoye has directed journalist to are not IADC, neither can the DPR risk its reputation to defend this act of fraud and forgery by Opeans Nigeria Limited. The leadership of the DPR knows that Opeans Nigeria Limited does not have IADC Accreditation to issue BOSIET, HUET, SAS or any certificate that the company has being issuing. The Oil Companies and Operators must conduct due diligence on certificates and accreditation being presented to them. “The DPR offices are open to all, newsmen should go and enquire from DPR if Opeans Nigeria Limited has ever presented to them any IADC Approval obtained by the company, they will tell you they have never”. DPR was on copy when the IADC denied the ‘IADC Approval’ being claimed by Opeans Nigeria Limited. IADC Vice President (Accreditation Operations) Mark Denkowski stated that Opeans Nigeria Limited is not an IADC Accredited Training Provider. In fact, you newsmen can write the IADC directly from the Contact Us page on their website www.iadc.org/contact-iadc
“News men, if I said any of you are not a licensed journalist, what are you supposed to do? I think the proper thing to do would be to bring out your license for all to see, right?” Okay, I have said firmly based on information directly from IADC to all the training providers in Nigeria, including the DPR, that Opeans Nigeria Limited is not an IADC Accredited Training Provider, but they have been issuing fake and forged ‘IADC Approved’ certificates to Oil and Gas workers. So, tell Ben Nwoye and his company Opeans Nigeria Limited to flag their IADC Approval or Certificate. If they cannot, then they have to face the law for illegally issuing certificates that they do not possess the right to award and obtaining money under false pretense.
Lym Consults Nigeria Limited is an OPITO Approved Training Provider, you can verify this directly from the OPITO website www.opito.com/training/training-provider-network
“I have showed you all a copy of a HUET certificate issued by Opeans Nigeria Limited, which clearly states that it is IADC Approved, right”? Opeans Nigeria Limited and Ben Nwoye, should simply show the entire Oil and Gas Industry their IADC Approval or Accreditation for which they have been issuing certificates of this manner.

Criticisms of Borno Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara’s recruitment of 150 Cameroonian vigilantes mere ignorance, Isa Gusau, the governor’s spokesman has hit back. A signed statement by the governor’s spokesman of Sunday, picked out Dr. Ona Ekhomu, President, Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON) criticism of the Borno State Governor deployment of Cameroonian vigilante as an action showing ignorance of current security issues in the Lake Chad Basin. The Lake Chad Basin and parts of Nigeria’s North-East has been battling with Boko Haram insurgency for a decade now. The protracted crisis, led the Borno Governor to recently recruit vigilantes from across Northern Nigeria and from neighbouring Cameroon. This drew criticisms of many persons, among which include Dr. Ekhomu. In a reaction from the Borno Governor, his spokesman, Gusau said: “It was for his ignorance of current security cooperation amongst states within the Lake Chad Region, that Dr Ona Ekhomu, President, Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON) issued press statement criticizing Borno Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum for equipping 150 Cameroonian vigilantes who have joined the fight against Boko in northern part of Borno State, in the shores of the Lake Chad.” Gusau said:”I have read reports in at least five newspapers credited to my elder brother, Dr. Ona Ekhomu who said with emphasis that Governor Babagana Umara Zulum acted illegally by equipping 150 cameroonian Vigilantes to join the fight against Boko Haram In Nigeria. He even said the Governor’s decision was a huge mistake in disregard for the Nigerian Army and Nigeria’s sovereignty. “I say with no intent to disrespect Dr Ekhomu, that his press statements were based on complete ignorance. First of all, Governor Zulum’s operational arrangements with the 150 Cameroonian vigilantes happened with full involvement of the Nigerian Army’s component in the multinational joint task force, currently fighting Boko Haram in eight regions affected by Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic. “In fact, it was at the headquarters of 5 Brigade of Nigerian Army in Damasak, headquarters of Mobbar local government area in northern Borno State, that officials of Borno government presented patrol vehicles and other logistics to the Cameroonians last week.” He added that:” Pictures of the events were released to the media and I am surprised that Dr Ekhomu didn’t make effort to get these facts before issuing press statements to criticize that hopefull productive counter terrorism effort.” He said:” The Cameroonian vigilantes are operating in parts of northern Borno located in the shores of the Lake Chad and they are operating under the coordination and command of the Nigerian Army component of the multinational task force.” Gusau said:” One of the key benefits of having these vigilantes is the latitude to generate and pass on intelligence from border communities in Cameroon and to also pursue insurgents who occasionally flee from Nigerian territories to border communities in Cameroon where Nigerian troops may be constrained to engage them.” The spokesman explained that in addition to the full involvement of the Nigerian Army on the 150 Cameroonian vigilantes, Governor Umara is member of the Lake Chad Governors Forum in which ”Governors of eight regions of the Lake Chad Basin affected by Boko Haram are involved in cross-border cooperation on security. He said:” That Lake Chad Governors Forum (to which Governors of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and their counterparts in five regions of Cameroon, Chad and Niger are members) was established with the involvement of the United Nations Security Council’s committee on counter terrorism and the federal government of all the countries.” He recalled that:” The forum’s first meeting took place in Maiduguri in May 2018 and the second meeting held in Niamey, Niger Republic around July, 2019. The main objective of that forum is to ease cross border cooperation in the fight against Boko Haram in the affected countries.” He said: ” I am surprised that Dr Ekhomu, who is a security consultant, is not aware of all these measures set in place in the determined effort to deploy new approaches of fighting the Boko Haram. “ He however advised persons who wants to speak to the media on security issues to take time to research on subject matters and get the facts before rushing to the press.
