Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa (left), welcoming the Vice President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osimbajo at the Asaba International Airport to attend the State Economic Summit to mark its 25th Anniversary in Asaba.

Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has expressed faith in the determination of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal government to ensure a turn-around through commitment and dedication to entrenching sustainable economy for the nation, despite recent economic downturns.

The Vice President who stated this on Friday, August 26, at the ongoing Delta State Economic and Investment Summit to mark the silver jubilee of Delta state in Asaba, disclosed that the commitment is dependent on the policy trust of the Federal Government to reposition Nigeria.

Prof. Osinbajo however lauded Delta state government’s Private, Public Partnership (PPP) initiative in driving the state’s economy, as he explained that prosperity is often time sought through the effective collaboration with the private sector who are in turn expected to contribute to the states and national development.

“There is no way we can create prosperity without the private sector because, the public sector does not have the resources to ensure speedy development.

“As a government, we have no choice but to create the environment for the private sector to thrive; I think the private sector must be a responsible partner, paying taxes and contribute to all manners of social activities that makes the society truly great.”

While congratulating the government and people of Delta State for celebrating 25 years of the state’s creation, the Vice President observed that the greatest challenge facing governments at all levels in the country was having leaders who will have the courage and ability to stick to laid down plans.

“We are confronted today in our country with the challenge of leadership, we must take time to reflect on the type of leadership we have because, governments in Nigeria have never been short of good ideas and good plans, but the challenge is sticking to the plan and getting desired results.

“Time has come to get results, public officers must be held to account for their performances; time and resources are saved when qualified people are hired.”

Prof. Osibanjo lauded Governor Okowa’s administration for organizing the economic and investment summit, appealing for those who are in positions of authority to “build the trust of the people and we must build that trust if we are trustworthy ourselves.”

He urged the state to intensity efforts at ensuring sustained, peaceful engagement with agitators in the Niger Delta region to engender peace that would attract meaningful investment development and revive the dwindling nation’s economy.

He however lamented that since political leaders have made the electorates to believe that many in government always tell lies; vandalism, kidnapping, armed robbery and other vices, have become the order of the day.

According to him, this distrust has now caused the country over 60 per cent drop in oil and gas production, and inadvertently, knocked down the private sector, which he referred to as “the engine-room” of any developing or developed nation.

While noting that for the economy of Nigeria, and indeed, any nation to grow, the crave for quota system in every employment generation and appointments must stop to give way to merit.

Osibanjo maintained that although the Federal, state and local governments have laudable ideas to move the nation forward, the technical-know-how to execute has been lacking.

“Nigeria needs very strong institution who know what to do and how to deliver. Sometimes we start but we don’t finish. Security is very important to ensure investors of adequate security’’.

“Unfortunately, Nigeria is currently being faced with the greatest economic challenge in the history, such that people no longer believe their leaders anymore after many years of betrayal of trust.”

He said for Nigeria to leapfrog from its present economic woes, “merit must take per-eminence over quota.”

Earlier in his opening address, Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa hinted that in a bid to create an enabling environment for investors, the state government has established the Peace Building Advisory Committee to engage the youths in productive deals and also help curb restiveness, criminality and among youths.

“Our partnership with the private sector is of utmost priority with us and we are pursuing it with relentless vigour, adopting robust and flexible private public partnership models that guarantees a win-win for all.

‘Beyond the pomp and pageantry of the silver jubilee celebration, it is also an occasion for the sober reflection; a time to pause, think deep and chart a new growth trajectory for the future of our great state. The need for foresight, careful planning, innovation and creativity has never been as it is today.”

Governor Okowa disclosed that the summit was necessary because, “with the ever growing complexity, disruption and global competition of the 21st century, it is incumbent on us to build a strong, robust and resilient economy that is adaptable to the physical, social and technological changes that are a growing part of the age we live in; we must rise to the challenge now, or we lose out,” assuring that his administration was committed to repositioning Delta State as preferred investors’ destination.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Summit, Mr Jim Ovia, Chairman, Zenith Bank Plc, said, “Delta State is a land of infinite possibilities, we should start thinking outside the box, we should think about alternative to oil.”

In his keynote address, the President, African Heritage Institution and former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo urged the present administration to wake up from its slumber after a year and three months down the lane.

He maintained that the current economic recession in Nigeria was “self-inflicted and avoidable” and urged the Federal Government to “unchain and unbundle” the economy by allowing for resource control, if the present downturn must become a thing of the past.

“At this stage, Nigeria needs a political and economic revamping to enjoy peace. Regions should control their resources but pay the necessary taxes to the Federal Government. You own the land, following the Land Use Act, that gives you the comparative advantage to control what you have, but you pay your dues in form of tax.”

He explained that unless the current bottlenecks surrounding the exchange rate were removed, the problems bedeviling Nigeria economy would remain and efforts at overcoming them would be a ruse.

“Now exchange rate has over-shoot, and this is self-inflicted. Remove the bills, the whole problems would disappear. But as long as the bureaucracies are still there, the economy will continue to hemorrhage. It is wrong as the situation is today, it will remain wrong tomorrow and will remain wrong forever.”

The Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, appealed to technocrats like the Zenith Bank’s Prof. Jim Ovia, the United Bank of Nigeria’s Chief Tony Elumelu, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Godwin Emiefele, who hail from Delta state and were present at the summit to help drive the growth and development of the state and Nigeria at large.

Delta @25: Developing Niger Delta Region and Matters Arising

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Idowu Uzor:
delta-state-25th-anniversary-logo
At 25 years, it is obvious that Delta State is still grappling to survive and it’s people worried and troubled about the slow pace of development in the state.

The situation, however, is not different in the entire Niger Delta region, more so when the region has been the sacrificial lamb whose resources the entire nation has continued to depend on for over five decades.

The region often described as the land of abundant human and natural resources has it’s people walloping in poverty, threatened by erosion, diseases, premature death, illiteracy, unemployment, hunger, kidnapping, various dimensions of violent actions, youth restiveness, armed robbery, piracy, oil bunkering and poor infrastructural development among others.

The duo of Prof. Patrick Mouboghare and Barr. Raymos Guanah former Delta State Commissioners for Basic and Secondary Education and that of Lands and Survey respectively, blamed lack of political will, poor terrain, insincerity on the part of Federal Government as the bane of developing Niger Delta region.

They opined that the region deserves special attention from the government considering the nature of terrain and the bulk of revenue been generated from the area to sustain the country for more than 50 years.

They also hold that the impacts of the oil explorations and the exploitation has left the region worst instead.

They stressed that neither the 13 per cent derivation, the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) nor the Amnesty programme could bring the kind of development needed in the area.

They were also worried that most government policies and programmes were not properly designed and adequately funded to meet the developmental need of the region, adding that the long period of neglects had continued to trigger violent reactions in the region.

The respondents condemned the exploration and exploitative nature of the multinational corporations in the region and called for immediate enforcement of the law to cause them to remediate and clean up the environment and to make them pay for the damages caused the people.

They also called for a true federalism as permanent solution to these decades of challenges to enable the Niger Delta people build the region with their oil wealth, adding that when the oils dry up, the region would be at the receiving end.

Prof. Mouboghare in his reaction blamed the difficult terrain and government insincerity for the poor pace of development of the Niger Delta region.

Delta @ 25: Dame Okowa, Delta Children Kick-Start Silver Jubilee With Party

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Dame Okowa and Delta Children celebrate
Dame Okowa and Delta Children celebrate

Founder of 05 Initiative and wife of Delta state governor, Her Excellency Dame Edith Okowa has successfully hosted the Delta Children’s Party in commemoration of the Silver Jubilee celebration of the state’s creation in 1991.

The epoch making event which was attended by children drawn from the 25 local government areas of the state featured Quiz competitions in General subjects and the Holy Bible as well as kiddies performances of various sports, dances, featuring Ben 10, Spiderman, Mickey Mouse among others.

Dame Edith Okowa, in her speech commended the children who honoured the invitation to be part of the event to mark the swift and remarkable progress the state has recorded since its creation, especially in the present Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration.

She also thanked the various banks who sponsored the Children’s party for collaborating with her pet project, the 05 Initiative and the state government to organize the party which was spiced up with distribution of gift items to the children, who she described as future leaders.

While saying that the event has aroused the children to display their God given talents in many stages and areas of child development, she noted that children also form the bedrock of societal growth, considering their humble quest for knowledge, which was proudly exhibited by the likes of David King Uruneden, a Five year old Kindergarten Three pupil, who recited the Holy Bible books from Genesis to Revelation and was awarded an Educational Scholarship by the 05 Initiative.

The Delta state First Lady was earlier engaged in an on the spot, mind boggling but heart warming interview by a popular and nationally acclaimed interviewer and founder of 515 Club, Miss Zara Hnwakanor, a Primary Five pupil of Champion Academy, Jos.

Highpoint of the event was the presentation of gift award to deserving children, including Yotan Lori and Golley Bliss from Warri South and Ethiope West local government areas respectively who clinched First and Second positions in the General Studies Quiz competition and others who participated in different competitions put together by the organizers at the Event Centre, Asaba on Wednesday, August 24, 2016.

Bailout Funds: FG Deducts N32 billion From States

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Kemi Adeosun, Finance Minister
Kemi Adeosun, Finance Minister

The Federal Government has deducted a total sum of N32 billion from allocations of states from the Federation Account in the month of April 2016 for different loans they incurred.

The loans included the bailout funds granted to states to settle salary arrears, AMCON loans, foreign loans, bonds, among others.

The state’s allocation for the month of April 2016 totaling N2.030 billion was wiped away by a deduction of N2. 391 billion leaving a deficit of N361 million to be paid in the subsequent month by the state, and this represents a whopping 117.8 percent of the total allocation due to the state from the Federation Account.

This means that Osun State had nothing to take home for the month of April, 2016, as other means of survival had to be adopted to keep the ship sailing for the people of state.

Osun is followed in the mind-boggling deduction conundrum by Bayelsa State with a total deduction of N3.207 billion out of an allocation of N4. 812 billion for the month of April, 2016 representing 66.66 percent of the total allocation.

Others are Cross River State with a total deduction of N1. 405 billion; Ogun State, N1.185 billion; Plateau State, N1.248 billion; and Ekiti State with N1.067 billion all representing 63.46 percent, 57.20 percent, 56.52 percent and 55.33 percent respectively within the period under review.

From the investigation, not less than N3.078 billion of the total amount was deducted for bail-out funds granted the states by the Federal Government.

At least eight states had no deductions on bail-out funds for the month of April 2016. The states namely Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Jigawa, Kogi, Lagos, Rivers, Yobe and the Federal Capital Territory did not collect the bail-out funds from the Federal Government or appropriate time for the deduction have not fallen due and are yet to commence.

Meanwhile, from the schedule of deductions obtained and computed by the Economic Confidential, the deductions from the states also include debts on Commercial Agric. Credit Scheme, Bond Issuance Programme, Contractual obligation and deduction from Excess Crude Account.

Others are Refund/Payment arrears of derivation, foreign loans, special intervention/flood management project, the National Fadama Project and reconstruction of commercial bank loans into FGN bonds apart from bail-out funds.

Military action seems imminent in the troubled oil and gas wealthy but impoverished Niger Delta region, as the Military hierarchy embarks on enlightenment campaigns ahead of intensive Army invasion against strong militants’ bombardment of oil and gas installations and economic mainstay of Nigeria in the Niger Delta region.

The move, according to Blank NEWS Online findings, revealed that the aggravated Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) has vowed to declare its Niger Delta Republic, a means to secede from the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which the present Mohammadu Bihari led administration has sworn to defend.

The plans by the NDA strongly indicates that the Military may have been challenged for a show of strength on who owns and controls the bulk of the nation’s revenue generating base.

While receiving the General Officer Commanding (G.O.C.) 2nd Division of the Nigerian Army, Ibadan, Major-General Kasimu Abdulkarim who paid him a courtesy visit on Thursday (18/08/16) at Government House, Asaba, Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa urged the military to carry out effective enlightenment campaigns to prepare the civilian populace for their actions in the region.

Governor Okowa commended the Military for informing the state about their intention to carry out some exercises in the creeks, observing that such would ensure reduction in unnecessary tension as the people would know that the actions were not targeted at the civilian population.

According to the Governor, “heavy presence of military men, always send shivers into the people and make them to be cocooned in their houses and it will make them not to go to farms, market or carry out socio-economic activities, but, when they are appropriately informed that your activities will not affect their normal lives, they will be receptive and go about their duties without fear.

“I am happy that the public is being informed about the operation you intend to carry out, the people will be calm and cooperate with you when they know that your actions will not be harmful to them,” he said, adding, “this prior information will make them realize that the operation is not going to affect the civilian population.”

Earlier, Major-General Abdulkarim had told the governor that he was on tour of states under the control of 2 Division of the Nigerian Army which includes Delta, Edo, Oyo, Ekiti and parts of Niger States, claiming that the “Nigerian Army is to have a training exercise which is amphibious in nature within the state.”

“We are here to provide adequate security and make the environment safe for all,” the G.O.C., however assured.

Also recall that in view of the prevailing security challenges in Delta state and the Niger Delta region, the Commandant, 4th Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-General Raji recently paid a courtesy call on Governor Okowa, to ascertain the extent of activities of militants, pipeline vandals and kidnappers in the oil and gas rich region.

PDP CONVENTION BROUHAHA: Makarfi Bags 1 Yr Tenure Extension **Okowa, Wike Express Hope In Party's Unity **Police Seize Fayose, Ishaku In PH **Sheriff Secures Abuja Court Injunction

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –
PDP-logo
Blank NEWS Online can authoritatively report that the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended the tenure of the caretaker committee of the party led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi by another twelve months.

The resolution was reached at the convention which took place at the PDP Secretariat, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, following the decision of party delegates from different parts of the country to amend the agenda of the convention.

Senator Makarfi had earlier inaugurated the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in a meeting held at the Rivers State Government House.

Senator Makarfi, in a briefing said, in the absence of elected national officers, members of the caretaker committee of the party would be members of NEC which comprises PDP Governors, National Assembly Caucus , Board of Trustees, National Caucus, 36 State PDP chairmen and national officers of the Party.

In an interview with journalists, Governor Okowa described what was going on in the PDP as the beauty of democracy, noting that the party was becoming stronger and more united.

The governor stated that the party has structures that were laid to stand the test of time and expressed satisfaction with the large turn-out of delegates, including former governors, former chairmen of the party at the convention.

The Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike had also announced officially on Wednesday after the police prevented the party from holding its National Convention that the convention is now rescheduled for next year to enable the party fully reconcile.

Meanwhile, the Ekiti State and Taraba States Governors, Ayo Fayose and Darius Ishaku, were on Wednesday held hostage by the police in Port Harcourt, Rivers State,.

Fayose and Ishaku who were in Port Harcourt to attend the National Convention of their party, the Peoples Democratic Party, were however, held hostage inside the Old Presidential Lodge where they were accommodated by the Rivers State Government when the police decided to stop the National Convention.

“No one could go in or leave the Old Presidential Lodge until after the policemen and Armoured Personnel Carrier deployed to seal Convention venue and other places were removed”, an eye witness told Blank NEWS Online.

Before the bubble burst, the Rivers State Police Command, through its spokesman, Nnamdi Omoni, said on Tuesday that it had made adequate security arrangements for the National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party.

Nnamdi Omoni, said “The command is prepared for the convention; necessary deployments have been carried out and we are prepared for the convention. Remember, that there are other Nigerians living in the state. The command is aware of this fact and will provide security for all, including those attending the convention and others living in the state.”

Recall that sequel to an application by counsel to the Ali Modu-Sheriff faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a federal high court sitting in Abuja had stopped the convention of the PDP from holding in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, as planned by the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party.

After hearing submissions from both parties on Tuesday, Justice Okon Abang, said:

“An order of interlocutory injunction is hereby made restraining the defendants, any of them, their servant agents from conducting the national convention of PDP and supervising and monitoring same under any guise or electing any national officer of the defendant pending the determination of the substantive suit.

“An order of Interlocutory injunction is hereby made restraining PDP from presenting anybody and sponsoring any person for election and holding any national convention or conference in the purpose of electing any national officers of the second defendants.

“An order of Interlocutory injunction is hereby made restraining INEC from monitoring the national convention of PDP scheduled for Port Harcourt on 17th August.”

However, he said the judgments of the Port Harcourt division granting the Makarfi faction a go-ahead still subsists, adding that they are processes of setting the judgement aside.

IBB, A TOWERING NATIONALIST @ 75 – OKOWA

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

IBB
IBB

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has described former Nigeria’s President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) as a nationalist whose legacy as the eight Nigeria’s Head of State will always stand him out as a towering nationalist.

Governor Okowa in a message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu to commemorate General Babangida’s 75th birthday stated that the world, especially, Deltans deserve to join IBB in celebration.

According to him, “IBB is an icon, a nationalist whose impact as President is still being felt in the country and in the diaspora, he occupies a special place in the hearts of government and people of Delta State because, but for his interest to enthroning an egalitarian society, where love for the nation supersedes personal interest, Deltans would have still been agitating for their own state.”

“IBB created Delta State in 1991 and as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the creation of our dear state, we remember his astute and sagacious contributions towards the realization of our dream state.

“As a State, a lot has been achieved since it’s creation and as we showcase our achievements to the world while working towards harnessing our potentials as a people, we owe you, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida a great deal of appreciation for making this dream a reality.

We are happy that as a worthy son-in-law of our state, his 75th birthday is coinciding with our rolling out of drums to celebrate 25 years of a progressive Delta State,” the governor said, adding, “the Government and people of Delta State wish to use this medium to congratulate Gen. Babangida as he celebrates 75 eventful, historical years on earth; we wish him happy more years of active contribution to the growth of our dear country, Nigeria and development of humanity.”

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

“We have been told that we will be paid but that is coming only to deceive us to vote again for this government.” –Edo pensioners

Retired civil servants in Edo state have vowed to boycott the September 10 governorship election, if their pension arrears were not paid by the Governor Adams Oshiomhole led state government.

The aged retirees, who are members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, on Monday defied the heavy rain, displaying placards with various inscriptions which read, “give us our pensions benefits,” “pension benefit are economic and human rights of retirees” and “pay us for God’s sake”.

Spokesman for the pensioners, Aigbedion, who lamented that the unpaid entitlements spanned over 42 months, threatened that members of the union would boycott the September 10 governorship election, if their demands were not met.

“We all have decided that unless Comrade Governor Adams Oshiomhole pays us our pension arrears, we, our children, wives and families will not come out to vote for this government.

“We have been told that we will be paid but that is coming only to deceive us to vote again for this government.

“We want our money; let Oshiomhole pay us as he said he admitted owing us, though not up to the months we are demanding.”

Delta Govt Condemns Ex Lepers Protest  ***Says Gov. Okowa Approved Payment To PAL

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Gov. Okowa
Gov. Okowa

The Delta State government has expressed displeasure over the behaviour of some ex lepers who recently protested in the premises of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development.

A statement from the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, stated that the action of the protesters, who came from one out of the eight colonies that the state government is catering for, was uncalled for.

According to the statement, the state governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi  Okowa, had approved the payment of their stipends and the process of getting the money released in line with official procedures was on before the action took place.

Mr. Ukah, who noted that contrary to reports in a section of the media that the approval for the payment of the stipends came as a result of the protest, said the approval had been given awaiting release of cash.

The statement revealed that the protesters, who came from Eku resettlement centre in Ethiope East Local Government Area, are fed together with members of their families and get their stipends, unlike those in the other seven centres who only receive stipends.
The Commissioner for Information said that the reduction in their stipends is as a result of the prevailing economic realities on the ground based on the serious short fall on revenue allocation.

He advised the ex lepers to be of good behaviour in the future as the state government will fulfill its obligations towards them.

It could be recalled that the aggrieved leppers, who spoke through the chairman of the People Affected by Leprosy (PAL), Lucky Egbo, had on Monday, 8th August, laid siege to the premises of the ministry, with household items like stoves, pots, plates and mats, urging the state government to pay up the seven months arrears and revert to the daily meal status quo.

Edo 2016: Ripples Over Obaseki's Absence @ Maiden Interactive Session for Guber Candidates

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Obaseki
Obaseki

The absence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, Mr Godwin Obaseki, at the Benson Idahosa University Interactive session for governorship candidates to present and defend their manifestoes ahead of the Edo governorship election on September 10, 2016 has continued to ganner criticism.

A director of his Campaign Organisation, Mr Austin Osakwe, who was at the maiden session to represent him, over the weekend was not allowed to do so, because participation, according to the organisers, was not possible by proxy.

Osakwe, who said his principal did not shun the event, explained to the newsmen outside the venue that though, he would have loved to be physically present for the event, he (Obaseki) was out of town.

According to him, “I believe that what they have done is the right thing. He is not able to be here today because of exigencies. He has not been in town for the past four days. So, he could not make it here today.”

Vice-chancellor of the University, Professor Ernest Izevbigie, who frowned at the absence of some of the governorship candidates and others who came late to the event, said the attitude does not augur well for persons aspiring to lead a people.

He declared, “Every candidate ought to cease every platform available to reach out to Edo people. They should be excited to share, because it provides an opportunity to convince people who are undecided or who are sitting on the fence.”

Prof. Izevbigie said the interactive session was designed to create a platform for all the governorship candidates to showcase to Edo people their plans and their vision for the state if they get elected as the State governor.

“It is a unique opportunity for the governorship candidates to showcase their party programs in the best way possible. It is not a forum for criticisms but to show the voting public how well they understand the minds of Edo people,” he explained.

He added that the University as an intellectual environment also organized the event as part of its corporate social responsibility and for the candidates to present highlights of their manifestoes and their vision for the state.

However, it would be recalled that Godwin Obaseki has come under serious criticisms for not speaking up, both for himself and the party at APC rallies as Gov Adams Oshiomhole has taken over the campaign and largely doing the talking.

This event was an opportunity for Obaseki to rubbish that assertion, but with his absence the impression in several quarters in the state that he is “puppet candidate” who cannot hold his own has been further reinforced.

Among the governorship candidates who featured in the event which attracted members of the voting public and students of the Benson Idahosa University community were Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the PDP who gave a beautiful rendition of his “Simple Agenda” and Dr Gbajumo Omorogieva of the SDP.

INDUSTRIALIZATION: Majemite Urges Govt To Explore Hydro-Powered Electricity

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Chief Fred Majemite
Chief Fred Majemite

FORMER Commissioner, Ministry of Lands in Delta State, Chief Fred Majemite has urged government at all levels to explore the use of hydro-powered energy supply to ensure speedy development of the country.

Speaking to journalists in Asaba, Chief Majemite stated that industrialization of the country would remain a mirage until Nigeria gets it right in the power sector.

According to him, “electricity supply is not stable, even the barber operates at a very high cost; cost of production has spiraled because of inadequate power supply and running a factory on generator is not the best; most industries have closed down because of unstable power supply.”

Chief Majemite urged the federal government to declare a state of emergency in the power sector, reiterating, “one big problem we still have is that they turbines depend on gas and whenever there is a problem in the gas sector it will affect power supply; we have a lot of water in Delta State and different parts of the country, so, if some states in the US can depend solely on water for the supply of electricity, why are we still talking about turbine? We should start to think of alternatives, we should explore the use of hydro-powered electricity projects.”

“What I have discovered is that it is difficult for us to move from what we are used to and that is a major problem, otherwise, nobody will talk about gas, when the water is there; we should begin to think of alternative because, the power sector is one important sector for the growth of any business,” Chief Majemite who also spoke on the 25 years of the creation of Delta State, said.

He added, “Delta State government tried to have its own IPP Independent Power Plant) but, how many states have gotten it right in that sector? If you even generate you will feed it into the national grid and fact that you generate does not determine what you get, until we get it right, most industries will not come up.”

Warri Wolves FC Appeal To Delta Govt Over Unpaid Salaries

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Warri Wolves players

Players of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) outfit, Warri Wolves, owned by the Delta State Government have not been paid since March 2016.

The Warri Wolves players have therefore appealed to the management of the club to pay their five-month salary arrears.

This, according to football analysts, has been responsible for the team’s unsatisfactory performance in the ongoing top-flight campaign.

Attempts made by Blank NEWS Online to reach the Chairman, Delta States Sports Commission, Tony Okowa and the Warri Wolves FC Manager, Moses Etu proved abortive.

According to insiders in Warri, the team hasn’t trained for the past four days in protest of the poor motivation they encounter.

The determined players have vowed not to train until their salaries were fully settled.

Most of the boys cater for their families and haven’t been giving their best.

They aren’t happy that their peaceful move hasn’t attracted the attention of the pay masters of the club.

At the end of the 2014/15 season, the Seasiders were affected by mass exodus of quality players due to the same issue, hence the current set aren’t ready to fall into the same trap.

A top official of the club claims that the state government had approved the money to settle the salary arrears of the team.

Warri Wolves are 17th on the NPFL ladder with 34 points from 28 games.

The Delta state government has vowed to declare all Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) that are not electronically generated into its “FastTrack Delta” data base invalid within 90 days.

The ultimatum was issued on Friday, August 12, 2016 to land owners in the state by the Commissioner for Lànds, Surveys and Urban Development, Mr. Dan Okenyi while publicly issuing some electronic C of O to recipients.

Although many land owners in the state have frowned at the enforcement of the newly introduced “Electronic C of O” which was flagged off by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in March this year, claiming it was an extortionist plot by the state government, the Ministry of Lànds, Surveys and Urban Development argued that the new policy allows land owners to pay the sum of Two Hundred and Twenty Five Thousand Naira (N225, 000), effective from August 1, 2016 and be issued the C of O within 90 days of application.

Mr. Okenyi, who was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah during the issuance of the electronic C of O to recipients on Friday, insisted that the state policy would help eliminate disputes over ownership of landed property in the event of death, increases value of land since it is secure and fraud proof.

He disclosed that the Ministry of Lànds, Surveys and Urban Development has also been strenghtened to issue approvals for building plans within 48 hours upon the payment of necessary reg, ular fees, just as he added that the state governor has approved a discounted 7.5 percent payment on ground rent.

Earlier, Mr. Iku Chuks, a Consultant and Deputy CEO, FASTTRACK DELTA, said the mandate by the state government was to embark of the re-authentication and revalidation of both government and private lands which he said has proven to be of great benefit, hence it serves as collateral due to its electronic value and relevance.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, said the initiative was not to witch-hunt anybody but to eliminate ambiguity in ownership of lands within the state, enjoining the media to help in forming public opinions on the gains derived from obtaining the electronically generated Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).

Mr. Patrick Ukah! Delta Information boss

Deltans have been urged to continue to live as one family and remain optimistic as the state governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, is resolute in his determination to positively touch their lives.

Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, gave this advise when members of the Women’s wing of Okpanam Community Development Union, Lagos branch, visited him in Lagos over the weekend.

He said that with the limited financial resources at the disposal of the state governor, he has been able to execute several projects across the three Senatorial Districts of the state within his one year in office.

Mr. Ukah expressed optimism that as the raining season is coming to an end, more developmental projects will be put in place in different parts of the state to put smiles on the faces of Deltans.

The Commissioner for Information admonished the women to continue to support the present administration by doing things that will portray the state positively.

The women, in their separate remarks, thanked the governor for finding Mr. Ukah worthy of an appointment into the State Executive Council.

Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a portrait to the Commissioner by the women.

Uduaghan Offers Recipes For N'Delta Challenge *Seeks "Carrot And Stick" Approach, Expanded Engagement Process

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Albert OGRAKA: Delta

Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, former Governor of oil wealthy Delta state.
Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, former Governor of oil wealthy Delta state.

Nigeria’s Delta state former governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has advised the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to ensure that governors in the once oil and gas rich Niger Delta region were part of the engagement process towards resolving militancy and challenges of under development in the now near impoverished region.

Dr. Uduaghan who stated this during the recent opening of the Nigeria Guild of Editors conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, insisted that the Federal Government should explore all instrument of dialogue in calming down insurgency in the region, but noted that force should only be a last option.

“Dealing with the Niger Delta challenge should be a carrot and stick approach, engagement and force where necessary. Engagements should be deepened. The governors should be part of it.”

According to him, the amnesty programme initiated by Late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to curtail militancy in the region could not achieve the desired peace in the then region because state governors were not part of the engagement process.

“The amnesty did not achieve what it was to achieve because the governors were not involved. The states should be involved. The biggest threat in the Niger Delta is that our land is seriously polluted especially water. In those days you could see the sand under the water. We used it to wash our teeth. But it is not so anymore.”

Dr. Uduaghan however appealed to the Niger Delta Avengers to cease further hostilities in the region.
“Niger Delta Avengers, are busting our pipelines for whatever reasons, anger. Nigerians are looking at it as something just affecting only the economy. I want to appeal to our brothers in the Niger Delta Avengers that what they are doing is not just damaging the economy but the waters. I appeal to them to stop it. The media should also help appeal to them to stop it,“ he said.

The erstwhile award winning governor also challenged the media to help redirect the mindset of Nigerians towards the gains of agriculture, stressing that Nigerians should be made to treasure it as a major money earner.

He recalled as governor that he introduced what he termed, Delta Beyond oil, a project that stimulated interest of citizens of his state in agriculture. He said it was time the nation moved beyond oil, adding that the major task of the media should be how to reawaken interest in the agricultural sector. “We need this mind change,“ he said.

Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka , Delta UTQEN boss

The Delta state Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria (UTQEN), Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka has urged members of the Union to remain law abiding in the discharge of their duties, aimed at strengthening national development.

Comrade Eluaka who stated this while receiving the leadership and members of the Union from Aniocha South local government in his office at the Union Secretariat in Asaba, explained that “as a union, we have built peace within ourselves and we cannot work in isolation, so, we collaborate with other trade unions to ensure industrial harmony and cohesion in our activities.”

“My interest is for us to have a peaceful and progressive union and as at today, we have our people working in twenty one local government areas of Delta State and we are making progress as employers of labour and at the same time collaborating with government and banks to boost member’s investments because we deal with heavy duty equipments like tractors, pail loaders, tippers, among others.”

He thanked the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) for helping to resolve some of the leadership issues between him and the suspended former Union Chairman, Mr. Kanayo Enenmoh but expressed dismay over the continued use of policemen by Enenmoh to harass and intimidate members of the Union who are legally protected by law to operate within the state, adding that such actions amount to contempt of court, since there is a pending suit filed by him (Enenmoh) against the national executive committee of the Union.

Comrade Eluaka therefore called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris and the Commissioner of Police, Delta state Command, Mr. Zanna Mohammed to urgently direct their officers to desist from further harassing members of the Union who are carrying out their legitimate duties across the state.

Earlier, in his speech, Chairman of the group, Comrade Joseph Ebube who led the delegation of members of Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria (UTQEN) in Aniocha South local government, said the solidarity visit was to formally notify the State Chapter of their willingness to join 20 other local governments to fully support the leadership of Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka because of his fortrightness and development prowess, especially in the area of youth employment.

He however appealed to the State executive of UTQEN under the leadership of Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka to help curtail the excesses of unauthorized persons who engage in illegal collection of tolls from tipper drivers and urging them to remain focused , explaining that a lot of transformation has been made, unlike the long tenure of the suspended ex-chairman, Mr. Kanayo Enenmoh without structure on ground.

Highpoint of the solidarity visit was a tour and inspection of the several tippers and sand dredging facilities owned by the state Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of UTQEN, Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka as well as over seventy eight persons who are working as members of Tipper and Quarry union, at the operational site in Marine Waters, Cable Point, Asaba.

Meanwhile, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) had on August 03, 2016 issued a letter introducing Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka as Delta state Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria (UTQEN).

The statement dated August 03, 2016 and signed by Comrade Lucky O. A. Edewor, State Secretary of TUC reads:

” I wish to formerly introduce to you Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka as the state Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria (UTQEN), Delta state.

“The Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria is an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) with jurisdictional scope to unionized workers and owners of tippers and quarries throughout the country.

“Please give Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka all necessary co-operation and support to enable him carry out its legitimate duties as an interim State Chairman of the UTQEN.”

One of Eluaka’s many dredgers

Despite the recogniion and continued efforts to ensure that the Union is afloat in creating massive employment to teeming youths in the 25 local government areas of the state by the Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka led executive which is currently in control of 21 local governments, Mr. Kanayo Enenmoh has engaged in litigations and harassment of members of UTQEN.

However, Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka has moved on despite the unwholesome attitude of Mr. Kanayo Enenmoh, whom he said had led the Union since 2005 without any recorded achievement.

According to the State Chairman of UTQEN, Comrade Chukwudumebi Eluaka, “Mr. Kanayo Enenmoh has since seized to be Chairman of the Union, having been placed on indefinite suspension since the 6h of Octber, 2014 by the Elder Joseph Adodo led National Executive Council of UTQEN for misconduct, high-handednes and anti-union activities, leading to his (Eluaka) appointment as Acting State Chairman.

He added that the said Mr. Kanayo Enenmoh who had earlier accepted his suspension from office later filed Suit No. NICN/EN/770/2014 between Comrade Kanayo Enenmoh and Eight others Vs. Elder Joseph Adodo and Three others at the National Industrial Court, Awka, Anambra state where he is challenging his suspension.

He further posited that the actions of Mr. Kanayo Enenmoh amounts to contempt of court and prejudicial to the suit filed by himself, hence his harassment of members of UTQEN is capable of causing crisis and breakdown of law and order in the Union in Delta state.

He therefore called on well meaning individuals and stakeholders in the tipper and quarry industries, as well as security operatives to disregard claims made by Mr. Kanayo Enenmoh in regard to the leadership of UTQEN in Delta state which is presently intact, considering its contribution to the development of the state and the country through job creation, especially among the vulnerable youths in the society.

ARMED MEN DIDN'T ATTACK DELTA GOVERNMENT HOUSE

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –
pressrelease
The attention of the Delta State Government has been drawn to a publication on several news media to the effect that Delta State Government House was attacked by armed men on Thursday leaving one driver dead.

The said incident was not an attack on Government House Annex Warri, but a robbery incident that occurred when a driver attached to the Delta Waterways Security Committee Chairman, Chief Boro Opudu was trailed by armed robbers while returning from the bank.

The driver gallantly made his way to the Delta Government House Annex in Warri but sustained serious gun shot wounds on his way back to the Annex and subsequently died while he was being rushed to the hospital.

The robbers could not make away with the money he was carrying because the security operatives was able to repel the rampaging robbers before they got to the government house Annex, Warri.

While we regret the loss of the driver, two of the three robbers were arrested by the military while one was arrested by the police.

DELTA DEBUNKS ALLEGATIONS OF ‘PADDED’ ALLOCATION FOR JULY

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Governor Okowa
Governor Okowa

The Delta State government has debunked the allegations making the rounds in a section of the media that it received an excess of N18.62 billion from the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) for the month of July, this year.

A statement made available to Blank NEWS Online by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, stated that the net FAAC proceeds which accrued for the state in the month of July was N5, 226, 068,645.78 as against the N18. 6 billion being peddled.

Meanwhile, the statement disclosed that the state government has approved the payment of July salaries and pensions to all employees of the state workforce.

Putting the record straight, Ukah said, “Contrary to what is being circulated by a section of the media, the figures below depict the net proceeds from FAAC for July 2016:

“Gross FAAC (Statutory, Mineral Derivation, VAT, etc N 7,485,871,893.05. Less Deductions (Bond, Foreign Loans, Salary Bailout, etc N 2,259,803,247.27

“Net FAAC receipt accruing to the State’s Account for July 2016 N 5,226,068,645.78

“From the figures above it is clear that the net FAAC proceeds, which accrued for July 2016 is N5, 226,068,645.78 and not the N18.6billion being peddled.

“As well, the Local Government Councils (LGCs) received a gross allocation of N3.332 billion from the Federation Account for the month of July, 2016,” the statement stressed.

Group Clears Kachikwu Of Alleged Extravagant Lifestyle **** Says Minister Did Not Chatter Flight To China

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Ibe Kachikwu
Ibe Kachikwu

THE Niger Delta Indigenous Movement For Radical Change (NDIMRC) has cleared the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Emmanuel Kachikwu of alleged extravagant lifestyle.

The group also insisted that the Minister never spent #182 Million on Chattered Flight to China as it equally dismissed the allegation that the Minister appointed two Special Advisers for his wives.

An online platform, quoting a source who does not want to be named, described the Petroleum Minister as “extravagant, lavish and too flamboyant for Buhari’s anti- corruption Government”.

But in a press statement by its President, Nelly Emma; Secretary, John Sailor and Public Relations Officer (PRO), Stanley Mukoro, the group said it was not true that the Minister recently chattered Flight costing #182 Million to China at the expense of the State.

“Our attention has been drawn to the recent allegations in an online Platform against the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Emmanuel Kachikwu and to say that these are familiar lies disgruntled Stakeholders have been heaping on the Minister. Our findings have shown that the Minister never spent #182 Million on Chattered Flight to China. We know that this baseless accusation is coming from the same frustrated Stakeholders who have been working against the hard-working Minister”, the group said.

“We want to let these faceless groups and individuals who are at it again to know that their information is not correct as he never embarked on a trip to China on a Chattered Flight costing #182 Million at a time when Nigerians are complaining of hardship. He is not insensitive to the plight of Nigerians. To show he is prudent, he has never used Private Jet since he came on board and we know he will never do that”, the group added.

It also that;” We have repeatedly said it that those still being hurt by the reforms of the Minister in the Oil and Gas Industry are doing everything to give him a bad name, hence they came out again now and accused him of Chattering Flight to China at the expense of the State, this allegation is laughable, baseless, mischievous and a pure lie against an innocent man.”

Writing further, the group said that; “Dr Kachikwu is not a man of wastage and has not tried to abuse his position as a Minister. The Dr Kachikwu that we know is a prudent person just like the President and patriotic citizen unlike his accusers and their sponsors.”

The group stated that; “It is also not true that the Minister approved Special Advisers to his wives. Those behind these recent accusations are petty, devilish and wicked. We have done our investigations as usual and discovered that the accusations are coming from the same people who have been working night and day to see that the Minister is shown the way out by the President. But they will continue to fail in their evil mission against the Minister who means well for this administration and Nigerians”.

“The Minister has zero tolerance for corruption and he is in the forefront of the anti-corruption of President Buhari. His accusers should give him a breathing space as he is out on a patriotic mission”.

According to the group; The success of the numerous achievements of the Minister is giving his accusers who have been feeding fat on Oil Subsidy sleepless nights and doing everything to pull down a God sent man in order to have their way, but it is our prayer that by the grace of God, they will never succeed because Dr Kachikwu is on a divine mission”.

It also wrote;”As a credible oil monitoring group, we are not going to accept the campaign of hate against the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources who is pained about the suffering of Nigerians and working hard with the President to give Nigerians a better deal and we wish to state here that enough is enough to these baseless accusations and blackmail of the Minister”

Pastor Isaiah Ogedegbe: The Story Of My Birth

Isaiah Oghenevwegba Ogedegbe (born June 14, 1991), commonly referred to as Prophet I. O. Ogedegbe is a Nigerian pastor and prophet. He is from Oghara-Iyede in the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State in Nigeria, an Isoko and Urhobo by birth.

Pastor Isaiah Ogedegbe
Pastor Isaiah Ogedegbe

Pastor Isaiah Ogedegbe of the Temple of Light and Miracles Ministries is a Warri-based preacher. He is reputed to have predicted Pastor T. B. Joshua’s Synagogue building collapse in 2013 and it came to pass in 2014.

The man of God, who turned 25 years on 14th June 2016, has narrated the story of his birth on http://www.warritimes.wordpress.com saying:

“According to my mother Esther, 7 months after she got pregnant again for my father Simeon, she gave birth to me prematurely on 14th June 1991 in Warri. My premature birth was due to an illness she suffered from at that time.

“On that particular Friday morning before 6:00a.m., her second son was born to my father. Her first son was Ochuko (now deceased).

“Unlike most premature babies born in the hospitals in recent times, I was not kept in an incubator. My parents took me home, believing God for my survival.

“When neighbours heard that my mother had returned home with a premature baby, they came to see the child and what they saw was a very tiny baby. Who could have thought then that I would survive?

“25 years later, that same very tiny baby in 1991 has grown into a very big man. I attribute my survival to the special grace of God upon my life. I pray and trust that His grace, which has kept me alive these past 25 years, will continue to keep me alive in the next 25 years and beyond if Christ tarries in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

President Muhammadu Buhari (R) welcoming Former President Goodluck Jonathan to the Presidential Villa today (3/8/16)

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday met behind closed-doors with his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan at the President’s office at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Jonathan arrived the Villa at exactly 2 pm and went straight to the President’s office while Buhari was still observing his afternoon prayer at the Villa Mosque.

The president had gone to the Mosque straight from the Council chamber where he presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council but came out immediately after the prayer to meet with Jonathan.

The reason for the former President’s visit remained unknown but Jonathan told State House journalists after the meeting that a united Nigeria was needed.

He said he and other stakeholders in the Niger Delta were working to ensure peace in the region.

According to him, “I have always said that when there is no peace, there cannot be development anywhere. We are great not because of our oil, but because of our size and diversity.

Jonathan said at an appropriate time, he would talk about the fight against corruption in the country when the cases in court might have been resolved.

He said he was at the State House to inform Buhari about his appointment by the AU to lead the election observers to Zambia.

This is the fourth time Mr. Jonathan is visiting his successor.

He was at the Villa in August and November last year, and in June this year. Hedid not address the press on those occasions.

Nicaragua's President Picks Wife As Running Mate For Upcoming Election

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –
030816083252
Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega picked his wife on Tuesday to run as his vice presidential candidate ahead of November elections, in a vote in which the leftist politician and his party are heavily favored to win a third consecutive term. Ortega, a 70-year-old former guerrilla leader, made the announcement as he registered his own candidacy for re-election. He has previously described the ‘joint government’ with Rosario Murillo as a symbol of equality between the sexes.

“We don’t doubt that (the vice presidential candidate) had to be a woman, and who better than the partner who has already been tested with work and proved to be very efficient and disciplined?” Ortega said as he was cheered on by dozens of supporters.

His wife, Murillo, previously served as the government’s chief spokeswoman.

Ortega first ruled the Central American country in the 1980s and returned to power as head of the leftist Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) party in 2007.

The election is scheduled for November 6.

AS the remains of the first civilian Governor of Delta State, Olorogun Senator Felix Ibru began its rites of passage, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has renamed the Delta State Secretariat Complex, as Felix Ibru Secretariat.

According to Governor Okowa, also to be named after the former Governor is the Senate Building of the Delta State University, Abraka subject to the approval of the Governing Council of the University.

The Governor who said, nothing would be too much to immortalize the deceased, made the pronouncement at a solemn valedictory cum tribute session held for Olorogun Ibru at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba on Tuesday, August 02, 2016.

He emphasized, “Felix Ibru was a pioneer, visionary, accomplished professional, entrepreneur par excellence, astute politician and strong leader” whose noble disposition as a governor, steely resolve and commitment fused different ethnic groups in the state into “a unified, coherent entity that undoubtedly laid the foundation for the growth and development of Delta State.”

“His (Felix Ibru) greatest legacy is that Delta did not only survive as a state but has continued to flourish as a key component of the Nigerian project,” Governor Okowa said, adding, “as an elected and distinguished Senator from year 2003 to 2007 representing the Delta Central Senatorial District, he made his mark at the National Assembly where as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment, along with his colleagues in the 5th Senate/House of Representatives, he ensured the passage of the Contributory Pension Act.”

The Governor continued, “he saw in every leadership position, whether local or national, an opportunity to serve and make the society a better place for everybody; he was the President-General of the Urhobo Progress Union from 2007 to 2010.”

“Olorogun Felix Ibru will be remembered as a patriot, a man of courage and an extraordinary leader who always stood on the side of the people, his life reminds us that wealth and service are not antithetical to each other; that our true wealth lies in our willingness to give ourselves, our time and resources for the common good,” the Governor reiterated.

Others who spoke at the occasion, including, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, Senator James Manager, former Deputy Governors Amos Utuama (SAN), Benjamin Elue and Simeon Ebonka paid glowing tribute on Olorogun Ibru describing him as a nationalist who believed in peaceful approach to achieving results.

Earlier in a sermon at the occasion, the Bishop of Asaba Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Justus Mogekwu called on Christians to always self-examine themselves to know where they will spend eternity, stating, “your life should be centered on Christ, in whatever you do, know that the world is not a permanent place, God has given you the grace to turn things to blessing or curse between the period of your birth and death.

He admonished Christians, especially politicians to imbibe the spirit of forgiveness bearing in mind that there will be a day for them to account for their deeds while on earth.

Why We Suspended Declaration Of Niger Delta Republic–Adoka Boro Avengers

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

The Adaka Boro Avengers (ABA) have said that it has suspended yesterday’s declaration of Niger Delta territory an independent republic.

The group, however, vowed that its mission to cripple Nigeria’s economy remained on course and “will not stop until the Nigerian government is ready to sit on a roundtable to dialogue and to restructure Nigeria.”

It also warned the Federal Government against having any discussion with the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) and described them as “greedy fellows” who are only after “stipends.”

ABA, which said its move to declare independence was not for selfish reasons, added that it was shelved following appeals from the people of the area.

A statement signed by General Edmos Ayayeibo, the group’s spokesman said, “We received calls from prominent leaders like Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Mrs. Ankio Briggs, Chief E. K. Clark and especially, King Alfred Diete Spiff calling on the freedom fighters to abort their mission to declare Niger Delta Republic.”

The statement quoted General Goddey, ABA leader, to have said that the grievances of the group bordered on how “the Nigerian government has enslaved…the people of Niger Delta region.”

“We adhere to the voice of our people, because our struggle is for the Niger Delta people and not for selfish reasons. But this is not the end. More is yet to come. Our mission to cripple the economy of the Nigerian nation. We will not stop until the Nigerian government is ready to sit on a roundtable to dialogue and to restructure the Nigeria.

“Unless that, we will not stop until Nigeria becomes a zero economy. We are also saying this for the benefit of President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerian government to stop wasting their time with those greedy fellows that call themselves MEND because nothing good will come out of them rather than sabotage. Those old fools cannot stop us and they know it very well. We know what they are after is all about stipends.

“Everything they are saying, not even one will be accomplished. We will never agree with anything they say and henceforth MEND should watch their back because we have tolerated them for a very long time.

“Enough is enough, since they want to set confusion in the Niger Delta, we will start from them.”

It would be recalled that ABA had on Sunday, July 17 issued a three-week notice of its intension to declare the Niger Delta an independent republic on August 1.

The Chairman, Governing Council, Delta State College of Health Technology, Ofuoma-Ughelli, Dr. (Pharm.) Nelson Ejakpovi has described the death of High Chief Tom Egbuwoku as a big loss to democracy.

Dr Ejakpovi gave the description yesterday while reacting to the news of the passage of the former Chief Whip of the House of Representatives who was elected on the platform of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) and former chairman, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association/ Africa’s representative.

According too Dr. Ejakpovi said, “with a sad heart, I received the news of the passage of the doyen of Isoko politics, High Chief Tom U.B Egbuwoku, the Okpure of Emede Kingdom.”

“He was not only a strong voice in the defunct Bendel State but, positioned the Isokos as a nation with vibrant politicians, his death at this stage in our nation’s history when we still need his advice is a big loss to democracy, from the inception of our party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he was a unifying factor not only in Isoko ethnic nationality, the state but, the country.”

MEND Says Nigerian Govt Has Agreed To Release Nnamdi Kanu, Okah Brothers, Other Concessions

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Nnamdi KANU
Nnamdi KANU

In a statement issued today, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) claimed that a team negotiating on behalf of the Federal Government for a return of peace to the oil-rich delta had agreed to release several detained or imprisoned militants, including Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Henry Okah, a MEND chieftain serving a jail sentence in South Africa, Charles Okah, and Obi Nwabueze. The statement disclosed that Mr. Kanu and other detained IPOB activists would be released on condition that they renounce their agitation for secession. According to MEND, ex-Senator Adolphus Wabara had introduced the compromise to secure the release of the pro-Biafran agitators.
Henry Okah
Henry Okah

MEND also stated that the government’s negotiators had agreed not to arrest or harass fugitive ex-MEND militant, Government Ekpemupolo (popularly known as Tompolo), “whenever he makes himself available as a delegate of the MEND Aaron Team 2.” In addition, the group stated that the government would review the life sentence meted out on Edmund Ebiware.
MEND declared itself the only militant group from the Niger Delta region presently engaged in a dialogue with the Federal Government of Nigeria, adding that oil companies and security agencies were representing the government in talks aimed at brokering peace in the region which has witnessed increasing attacks on oil facilities since President Muhammadu Buhari came to power in May 2015.
MEND stated that the agreement called for a review of “criminal charges against Urhobo freedom fighter, Mr. Kelvin Prosper Oniarah,” and the review of life sentences handed to seven soldiers in 2008 for supporting the Niger Delta struggle. The affected soldiers are Major Suleiman Alabi Akubo, Sergeant Mathias Peter, Lance Corporal Alexander Davou, Lance Corporal Moses Nwaigwe, Lance Corporal Nnandi Anene, Lance Corporal Taatihi Emmanuel, and Private Caleb Bawa.
Declaring the deliberations “fruitful,” MEND seemed to back military reprisals against the Niger Delta Avengers should the group refuse to stop attacking oil installations in the area. MEND’s statement declared, “one of the most immediate and urgent fall-outs of the ongoing dialogue is the imperative for the Federal Government and MEND to jointly and separately take proactive steps to rescue and secure the region in the event that the recalcitrant Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) continue on their senseless and politically-motivated path of attacks on the country’s oil assets.
“To this end, both parties agreed that the Special Forces of the Nigerian Army should commence the purely routine but strategic military exercise code-named ‘Operation Crocodile Tears’; while MEND would commence a meet-the Government-Actors-and-People tour of the Niger Delta region code-named ‘Operation Moses.’”
The statement continued: “While ‘Operation Crocodile Tears’ is aimed at ensuring the combat readiness of the Nigerian Army in Amphibious and Internal Security Operations in the Niger Delta as well as check
criminal activities like kidnapping, pipeline vandalism, piracy and other forms of criminal activities spearheaded by the NDA in the region, MEND’s ‘Operation Moses’ is essentially to inform, educate and generally sensitize the citizenry in the Niger Delta, particularly the Government, the youth, oil companies, elders and militant community on the need to ceasefire and support the President Muhammadu Buhari Administration in its determined bid to proffer sustainable solutions to the current Niger Delta crisis.”
MEND urged all states, local governments, oil and gas companies and the people of the Niger Delta region “to go about their lawful and legitimate concerns without any iota of fear as we have received FIRM ASSURANCES from the Federal Government that ‘Operation Crocodile Tears’ is an innocuous exercise in the national interest.”
It added, “Meanwhile, MEND’s ‘Operation Moses’ shall be anchored by the AARON TEAM 2 Dialogue, Peace & Development Initiative jointly led by Mr. Odein Ajumogobia (SAN) and HRH King Alfred Papapreye Diette-Spiff, the Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass in Bayelsa State.
“’Operation Moses’ shall commence with a visit by the distinguished members of the AARON TEAM 2 to President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja between August 22, 2016 and August 26, 2016.
“Thereafter, the Team shall hold sessions with top executives of major indigenous and international oil & gas companies operating in Nigeria, including the state oil company, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) on August 29 and 30, 2016 in Abuja. The focus of those sessions shall include, to wit: Local content development; Petroleum Industry Bill; Corporate Social Responsibility/Host community relations, etc.
“On September 5 and 6, 2016 in Abuja the MEND Aaron Team shall hold sessions with the top echelon of security agencies in Nigeria as well as the top management of the intervention agencies in the Niger Delta, namely: Ministry of Niger Delta; Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Presidential Amnesty Office. The Minister of Justice/Attorney General of the Federation is expected to personally attend these sessions. PROPHESY: How I Predicted The 2014 Synagogue Church Building Collapse – Prophet I. O. Ogedegbe

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –

Pastor Isaiah Ogedegbe
Pastor Isaiah Ogedegbe

Isaiah Oghenevwegba Ogedegbe (born June 14, 1991), commonly referred to as Prophet I. O. Ogedegbe is a Nigerian pastor and prophet. He is from Oghara-Iyede in the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State in Nigeria, an Isoko and Urhobo by birth.
According to a report on http://www.warritimes.wordpress.com Prophet Ogedengbe predicted on the 27th December 2013 that, “also in 2014, a very big building will collapse in Nigeria and dead bodies will be dug out of shattered blocks.” It happened eight months later on the 12th September 2014 when a guesthouse collapsed in the SCOAN’s premises in Lagos.
Since then, his name struck a gong to the whole world as a result of that prophecy which proved accurate.
Pastor Isaiah Ogedegbe recalled: “The Almighty God did tell me 10 things that would happen in 2014 when I was seeking His face for three days (2nd July, 2013-4th July, 2013). I was 22 years old then because I was born prematurely on 14th June 1991 in Warri.
“As a youth, I desired to hear the words of God from God Himself. During those three days of prayer and fasting, I heard God speaking to me and I wrote down His words which were later published online in December 2013.
“One of the 10 things that God told me would happen in 2014 was the collapse of a very big building in Nigeria resulting in deaths. It happened just as God had told me. It happened for a reason, but only God knows why.
“Why me of all prophets? God can use anybody. I never knew God was going to use me.”
Isaiah completed his primary education course from 1997 to 2003 at Caveginia Primary School. He attended Dore Numa College between 2003 and 2008. In 2008 he was the president of the Scripture Union.
His senior pastor is Pastor Samuel Ojegbe. Pastor Isaiah Ogedegbe is the assistant pastor of Temple of Light and Miracles Ministries located at 4 Skinn Road, Warri.

Niger Delta Avengers: Military Releases Tompolo's Associates

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –
FB_IMG_1469861932185
The 3rd Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Effurun on Thursday night bowed to pressure from groups and ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias “Tomopolo” with the release of two of his associates arrested penultimate Monday.

The duo, Simeon Bebenimibo, a member of the Delta State Waterways Security committee and Bomboy Oluwa, a boat engine repairer, were arrested on Monday, July 18, 2016 by soldiers allegedly in connection with the activities of the dreaded members of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).

Security sources told our Correspondent that the arrested suspects were released without any condition but due to pressure from the various groups and directive from the Presidency.

“After extensive investigations, the military had no further reason to hold them and because of public outcry including that of ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, the Presidency ordered their release”, the security source disclosed.

The arrest of the duo penultimate Thursday had generated public outrage in the Niger Delta Region.

The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative (IPDI) as well as other groups had reacted spontaneously decrying the arrests and subsequent detention of the duo.

Wanted ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias “Tompolo” had also in an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari last Saturday complained bitterly over the continuous harassment and intimidation of his family members and associates by security agencies.

He had lamented that the harassment and intimidation of his family and associates was getting to a worrisome dimension noting that the situation was getting deteriorated by the day.

In the letter, which he personally signed and said would be his last, Chief Ekpemupolo noted that the harassment and intimidation of his relatives were being carried out by the security agencies in connivance with two notable members of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State.

The Commanding Officer of 3rd Battalion, Major Monday Anzaku, did not pick or respond to text message for confirmation of the release of the arrested persons.

However, the President of the Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative (IPDI), Comrade Austin Ozobo, confirmed the release of the arrested duo.

Also, President of Niger Delta Security Watch Organisation of Nigeria, Dickson Bekederemo, a lawyer confirmed that the arrested persons were left off the hook on Thursday night and have since reunited with their families.

He commended the military for the release but cautioned that it should henceforth operate within the ambits of the law which stipulates detention of suspects not beyond 24 hours as enshrined in section 35 of the 1999 constitution as ammended.

Bekederemo therefore urged the Federal Government to also order the release of 10 Oporoza youths, arrested on May 28, 2016,during the invasion of Gbaramtu kingdom by the military in search of the Niger Delta Avengers.

Again, FG Stops Delta Govt From Fixing Failed Portion Of Asaba/Onitsha Road ***Ukah Calls For Urgent Attention

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –
images
The nightmare being witnessed by motorists and commuters on the Benin/Onitsha expressway as a result of the failed portion of the road shortly before the Asaba end of the Niger bridge may continue as attempts by the Delta State government to fix the road has again been resisted by officials of the federal government.
It would be recalled that the Delta State government’s interventionist agency, the Direct Labour Agency (DLA) had mobilized to the area shortly after the visit of the Minister of Works, Mr Raji Fashola, to the state but were chased out by officials of the federal government.
The second attempt to fix the road was made again last week to reduce the loss of man-hour and resources by commuters who spend hours on the road as a result of the bad spot, but officials of Julius Berger Plc who were brandishing contract documents again insisted that the Delta State government cannot work on the road as the state had no valid contract to do such.
The Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr. Patrick Ukah, confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate.
According to him, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration, since inception, has not discriminated in the provision of infrastructure in any part of the state, especially, in the area of fixing of roads.
Good road network is very important to the socio-economic development of the people, the Information Commissioner said, recalling that the governor ensured that the Warri/Benin expressway, which was cut off, was fixed as he ensured a lasting solution to the failed portions on that road.
Mr. Ukah revealed that the Delta State government also fixed the bad portions on Asaba/Ughelli road, which was almost cut into two just after Ogwashi-Uku, even though it is a federal road and would have started work on the Asaba/Illah road but had to pause as the road needs total overhaul and asphalting and prayed that the Federal Government will begin work on that road soon because it reduces traveling time from the South East to the North.
He expressed surprise that some officials of Federal Government does not want the state government to fix this bad spot which is just after Asaba as you are going to Onitsha, stressing that road users are crying because the road is a major gateway to the South-East.
Mr. Ukah disclosed that twice the DLA had mobilized to fix that road but were chased out by officials of Julius Berger Plc who said they have the contract to work on the road.
The Information Commissioner appealed to the federal government to look at the roads in Delta State, especially those areas that need urgent attention, to reduce the rates of accidents, save lives and property and reduce time spent on the roads.
