In a press statement, Senator Nwoko described the move as a historic and symbolic step towards political progress and inclusion for Delta State and the Anioma people.

The official event, which is expected to be attended by prominent political figures including the Vice President of Nigeria and the APC National Chairman, Kashim Shetima and Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje respectively was hailed by the lawmaker as the beginning of a new era for Delta State.

“Our people can no longer afford to be left in the margins of national politics,” Nwoko said.

“We must stand as key stakeholders at the very centre where decisions are made, where opportunities are created, and where the future of Nigeria is being shaped.”

Senator Nwoko, who had earlier defected to the APC, expressed satisfaction with the growing momentum in Delta State towards progressive politics, noting that the latest defections would strengthen the region’s political relevance and influence at the national level.

“The movement of the Governor, former Governor, and the broader political structure into the APC is not only significant, it is profoundly symbolic,” he said. “Together, we will build a stronger New Delta, a prouder Anioma, and a better Nigeria.”

Nwoko currently serves as Chairman of both the Senate Adhoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft and the Senate Committee on Reparation and Repatriation.

South East Youth Leaders endorse Senator Ned Nwoko for 2027 polls ahead of Creation of Anioma State

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the apex socio-political youth body in the South East, has declared its full support for the re-election bid of Senator Ned Nwoko in the 2027 general elections, citing his outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to the creation of Anioma State.

In a press statement jointly signed by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Okey Nwaoru, COSEYL praised Senator Nwoko for what it described as “visible and meaningful development” in Delta North over the past two years.

“Senator Nwoko has proven to be a true leader and servant of the people,” the statement read. “He has uplifted his constituency through infrastructure projects, educational programs, youth empowerment initiatives, and improved healthcare services.”

The group emphasized that Senator Nwoko’s legislative impact has gone beyond constituency development, lauding his vocal advocacy for the creation of Anioma State.

LCOSEYL noted that his re-election would “consolidate the gains already made and inject renewed energy into the Anioma cause.”

Describing the proposed Anioma State as a symbol of equity and self-determination for the Anioma people, COSEYL urged traditional rulers, political leaders, and all sons and daughters of Anioma to rally behind the senator’s second-term ambition.

“Senator Nwoko is not just speaking about change—he’s making it happen. His continued presence in the Senate is critical to actualizing the long-standing dream of Anioma State,” the statement added.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, the coalition called on the electorate to “stand together behind a man whose vision aligns with the hopes of future generations,” asserting that his re-election would “guarantee continuity in impactful representation.”

Senator Nwoko, a first-time senator representing Delta North, has emerged as a central figure in the renewed push for Anioma State, gaining traction across political and community lines.

Warri delineation: How DSS arrested British army officer, others, seized 57 AK 47, Six Pump Action, ammo

The Department of State Services (DSS) has recovered 50 AK47 rifles, six pump-action shotguns and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition during a covert operation in Asaba, Delta State.

The agency also arrested an Itsekiri serving in the British Army (name withheld) who allegedly procured the weapons at the behest of one Collins.

Multiple sources in the DSS confirmed that the operatives from the DSS Delta Command apprehended the prime suspect, a Major in the British Army and several associates in connection with the illegal arms supply.

The British army officer was reportedly intercepted in Lagos as he was about boarding a flight to the United Kingdom, while his associates were apprehended in Asaba.

A source stated that: “An Itsekiri serving in the British Army is alleged to have procured weapons and ammunition at the behest of one Collins to instigate unrest in Warri.

‘’During a covert exchange near Asaba in Delta State, operatives from the DSS Delta Command apprehended the arms supplier and several associates, seizing over 50 AK-47 rifles, six pump-action shotguns, and more than 3,000 rounds of ammunition.

‘’Shortly thereafter, DSS agents in Lagos intercepted the British Major as he tried to cross Nigeria’s border en route to the United Kingdom.

“All suspects are now in DSS custody. The DSS will carry out a full and transparent investigation and hold anyone found plotting tribal conflicts to account.’’

There are suspicions that the arms were procured by those opposed to the delineation of the wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency.

A powerful traditional ruler is also being discreetly investigated in connection with the matter.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had earlier presented the report on the delineation of wards and polling units in the Warri Federal Constituency to the Ijaw, Itsekiri, and Urhobo ethnic nationalities.

The INEC chairman’s representative, State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Etekamba Umoren, at the presentation held in Asaba, the Delta State capital, said that the fresh ward and polling unit delineation fieldwork was prompted by the Supreme Court judgment of December 22, 2022, which ordered it to conduct the exercise.

Copies of the delineation report were received by Chief Victor Okumagba, Dr. Andrew Igban, and Dr. Joe Bisina on behalf of the Urhobo, Itsekiri, and Ijaw ethnic nationalities, respectively.

In his address during the meeting, the INEC chairman noted that the meeting was the fifth engagement with the stakeholders since the apex court verdict, which mandated the Commission to carry out the exercise in the three local government areas in the Warri federal constituency.

He urged the stakeholders to study the report and respond to it appropriately, as the commission was ready to adopt the report as a working document in line with the Supreme Court directive.

However, the planned delineation has stoked tension in the state, with some groups and stakeholders opposed to the exercise.

Recently, scores of Ijaw youths marched to the INEC headquarters in Abuja in support of the exercise.

Drawn from the Gbaramatu, Egbema, Diebiri, and Isaba communities, they said the INEC delineation exercise was fair and in line with the Supreme Court judgment.

They commended INEC for what they called a transparent process, which they said marked the end of years of political marginalisation of the Ijaw people in the constituency.

Insurgency: Zulum Calls for Aggressive Military Offensive in Lake Chad Islands

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum has called on the military to launch aggressive offensive operations in the Lake Chad islands, also known as the Tumbus, to eliminate insurgents from their enclaves.

Zulum made the appeal on Friday while receiving a high-level Federal Government delegation led by the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, Minister of State for Defence, Chief of Defence Staff and other military chiefs during a courtesy visit at the Council Chamber of the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri.

The governor described the Tumbus as critical havens for insurgents where they regroup and sustain their activities, calling for a special military operation to be carried out in the area.

He said: “These islands serve as breeding grounds for insurgents who depend on the area for sustenance. It is imperative to consider launching coordinated operations to flush them out.”

He further warned that terrorist elements from the North West, North Central and North East are likely falling back to the Tumbus for their means of livelihood.

He urged the Federal Government to enhance surveillance and border security, particularly in the Sahel region, citing the vulnerability of Nigeria’s borders and the infiltration of armed groups and weapons through the region.

He said: “If the Sahel is not secured, the entire country remains vulnerable. There is a pressing need to fortify the Sahel region to end insecurity.”

Zulum also advocated for increased troop deployment to areas such as the Timbuktu Triangle and the Mandara Mountains, and for continuous and sustained military operations to prevent the reoccupation of previously reclaimed territories.

The governor said: “There should be forces that will keep the ground, otherwise they will come back. What brought about the recent situation is we felt everything is OK, but they are regrouping now and I believe the Nigerian military will not allow them regroup.”

The governor further requested the deployment of more military hardware including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicles (MRAPs), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and additional personnel to improve surveillance and fortify vulnerable zones.

Zulum, while acknowledging the current operational burden on the military across the country, called for the deployment of more trained manpower and logistics to the North East.

He also highlighted the success of non-kinetic measures, revealing that over 300,000 repentant insurgents and their families have surrendered over the past three years.

Zulum however praised the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, and Service Chiefs for their unwavering support.

In his remarks, Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, assured the Governor of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing the necessary personnel and equipment to combat insurgency and facilitate the resettlement of affected communities.

He said: “The President has directed that we provide the military with all necessary manpower and equipment to halt the recent resurgence of insecurity in Borno and the North East.”

He commended Governor Zulum’s efforts in resettling internally displaced persons and supporting agricultural and other livelihood initiatives.

The minister was accompanied by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Mutawalle; Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; representatives of the Service Chiefs; outgoing and incoming Theatre Commanders of Operation Hadin Kai as well as Principal Staff Officers and senior military personnel.

2027 Polls: Ohanaeze Ndigbo throws weight behind Senator Ned Nwoko as preferred candidate for Delta North Senatorial District

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has thrown its weight behind Senator Ned Nwoko as the preferred candidate for the Delta North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

In an official statement signed by its National Spokesman, Chief Thompson Ohia, and released on April 24, 2025, the organization hailed Nwoko as a “true advocate for the Igbo agenda” and “a steadfast champion for Anioma State.”

Senator Nwoko, currently representing Delta North, was praised for his unwavering commitment to Igbo cultural heritage and his vocal advocacy for the creation of Anioma State.

Ohanaeze described the push for Anioma state as more than a political move, calling it a “heartfelt embodiment of the legitimate aspirations of the Anioma people.”

The organization expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration would address what it called “historical injustices” by supporting the statehood initiative before the 2027 general elections. Ohanaeze suggested such a move would galvanize Igbo support for the administration and its allies.

In a direct message to former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the group urged him to support Nwoko’s senatorial ambition instead of entering the race himself.

Ohanaeze warned that Okowa’s potential candidacy, following his recent bid for the vice presidency, might be viewed as a political step backward and out of sync with the “broader aspirations of the Anioma people.”

The statement also criticized Okowa for what it described as a lack of engagement with major Igbo programs during his tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. “His consistent avoidance of major Igbo initiatives raises critical questions regarding his commitment to the collective welfare of the Igbo nation,” the statement read.

Citing a quote from Igbo leader Omenazu Jackson—”A leader becomes a monumental suspect if his aspirations and conduct are antithetical to the people he claims to lead”—Ohanaeze underscored the importance of authenticity and alignment with community interests in political representation.

Declaring there is “no vacancy” for the Delta North Senatorial seat in 2027, the group said the Anioma people and the wider Igbo community are united in ensuring Senator Nwoko’s re-election. Ohanaeze also reiterated its commitment to properly vetting all future political office holders in Igbo land, declaring an end to “third eleven representations.”

As the 2027 elections draw closer, Ohanaeze called on all Anioma people to rally behind Nwoko, whose leadership they believe offers a hopeful and progressive future for the region.

NED NWOKO: THE CHAMPION OF ANIOMA STATE – A UNANIMOUS CHOICE FOR NDIGBO IN 2027 DELTA NORTH SENATORIAL ELECTION

In the rapidly evolving political landscape of Delta North, the apex sociocultural organization of the Igbo Nation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, stands resolutely in support of Prince Sen Ned Nwoko as the most suitable candidate for the Senate seat in the upcoming 2027 elections. Senator Nwoko’s unwavering commitment to the Igbo people, coupled with his distinguished track record of integrity, positions him far above any other contenders for such position.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo ardently acknowledges and commends Senator Ned Nwoko’s boldness in embracing and promoting Igbo cultural heritage. His fervent advocacy for the creation of the sixth Igbo state—Anioma State—is not merely a political gesture; it is a heartfelt embodiment of the legitimate aspirations of the Igbo people.

This initiative resonates profoundly across the Igbo diaspora, who remain optimistic that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will recognize and address the historical injustices faced by the Igbo nation by facilitating this monumental creation before the 2027 elections. Such a gesture would undoubtedly evoke a robust response of support from the Igbo electorate in the approaching elections.

In stark contrast, Ohanaeze Ndigbo hereby calls upon Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to throw his political weight behind Sen Nwoko in this regard.

While we fully acknowledge his constitutional right to pursue any political office, we must assert that his candidacy for the Senate if he intend’s, after previously seeking the vice presidency, may be perceived as a notable regression in his political journey. Such a move would not only diminish his stature but also contradict the broader aspirations of the Igbo people, who have long sought authentic leadership that genuinely aligns with their interests.

Moreover, it is imperative to address the glaring absence of Dr. Okowa from the sacred endeavors championed by Ohanaeze Ndigbo during his tenure as Governor of Delta State from 2015 to 2023. His consistent avoidance of major Igbo programs and initiatives raises critical questions regarding his commitment to the collective welfare of the Igbo Nation. In the eyes of the Igbo populace, this disassociation has diminished his credibility as a representative of Igbo aspirations, thereby rendering Senator Ned Nwoko’s pro-Igbo stance unequivocally superior in this political equation.

“A leader becomes a monumental suspect if his aspirations and conduct is antithetical to the people he claims to lead”

Omenazu Jackson.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo firmly declares that there exists no vacancy for the Delta North Senatorial seat in 2027. The Igbo Nation stands united in mobilizing the Anioma people to ensure an overwhelming return of Senator Ned Nwoko to the National Assembly and the Senate Chambers. His political leadership is not merely embraced; it is celebrated and acknowledged as a beacon of hope for our community and as a representative voice for our collective interests.

The current leadership of Ohanaeze stance that all political office holders in Igbo land with be vetted properly is unwavering. The time for third eleven representations is clinically over.

As we approach the 2027 elections, let us rally together in support of Senator Ned Nwoko, a true advocate for the Igbo agenda and a steadfast champion for Anioma State. We trust and believe that his leadership will continue to illuminate the path toward progress and unity for all Ndigbo.

Political Earthquake in Delta: How Senator Ned Nwoko’s exit from PDP Caused landslide Defection to APC

BY CHRIS OKOBAH

In a development that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s political landscape, Delta State—once a formidable stronghold of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)—has undergone a dramatic transformation with the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his entire cabinet to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This follows the earlier and much-contested defection of the Most Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko, whose move many now believe was the spark that ignited this political upheaval in the state.

Just weeks ago, Nwoko’s switch from PDP to APC stirred a storm of controversy and criticism. Political pundits and party loyalists alike questioned his motives, with opponents labeling him a coward fleeing the PDP in anticipation of a looming political defeat.

Delta, long regarded as a PDP fortress, seemed an unlikely ground for such a monumental realignment. However, the tide has turned. Wednesday’s mass defection of the Governor and his executive team to the APC has rendered prior criticisms obsolete.

What was seen as political opportunism now appears, in hindsight, to be strategic foresight. It has forced a reckoning within Delta state’s political elite, raising one crucial question: What caused this political tsunami?

(1) The Ned Nwoko Factor

At the center of this tectonic shift is Senator Ned Nwoko himself. A man of influence, charisma, and undeniable popularity, Nwoko has long commanded significant grassroots support across Delta State.

His legislative record is decorated with impactful bills and advocacy, ranging from youth empowerment and education to regional development and environmental reform.

Nwoko’s defection didn’t just shake the party system; it shook the people. His political brand—characterized by pragmatism, accessibility, and a firm grasp of both local and national issues—has earned him widespread respect, particularly among the youth and middle class.

As political analyst Prof. Adewale Onanuga observed, “When a man moves with the hearts of the people, he does not walk alone. He shifts the soul of a community.” That sentiment echoes what many in Delta felt when Nwoko left PDP: a sense that the state was on the verge of transformation, even if many couldn’t yet see how.

(2) Popularity, Pragmatism, and Power

Nwoko’s defection did more than challenge party loyalty—it presented a new vision for Delta State. His ability to mobilize a large and active followership gave APC an edge that PDP hadn’t accounted for. His reputation for delivering on promises, paired with an unapologetically pragmatic approach to governance, positioned him as not just a political figure, but a movement.

A quote by American political theorist John Maxwell captures this dynamic aptly: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” Nwoko’s move to the APC, in retrospect, was more than political survival—it was a roadmap for change.

(3) A Calculated Domino Effect

Insiders suggest that the governor’s defection, though surprising, was not impulsive. Sources within the corridors of power hint at months of discontent within the PDP’s state machinery, including internal factionalism, policy stagnation, and dwindling federal influence.

The governor, recognizing Nwoko’s traction and sensing a shift in the political winds, likely saw defection as the only viable path to sustain governance and relevance.

This decision has now repositioned Delta as a battleground for the 2027 elections, with APC gaining an undeniable upper hand.

The Bigger Picture

The Delta political shift underscores a broader truth in Nigerian politics: personalities often eclipse parties. Charismatic figures with genuine grassroots support have the power to realign political loyalties and reshape state dynamics.

As former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt once said, “The most successful politician is he who says what the people are thinking most often and in the loudest voice.” Senator Ned Nwoko, in many ways, has become that voice for a growing number of Deltans.

What began as a controversial move by one senator has now snowballed into a political realignment of historic proportions. The story of Delta State’s transformation is not just about defections and power shifts—it’s about the enduring power of leadership, popularity, and vision.

Senator Ned Nwoko, once dismissed as a defector running from defeat, now stands as a catalyst of change. And with Delta State now firmly in APC’s grip, the rest of Nigeria is watching closely, wondering where the next political earthquake will strike.

Sen. Nwoko says Oborevwori’s defection to APC must reflect deeper commitment to progressive governance

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

The defection of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the All Progressives Congress (APC) must be more than a political shift—it must spark transformative leadership and a break from the past, Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko declared in a powerful public statement on Thursday.

Calling it a “historic moment,” Nwoko urged the governor to leave behind the political habits that led to the decline of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

“No one pours new wine into old wineskins,” he said, emphasizing that the move should not be symbolic but must reflect a deeper commitment to progressive governance.

In what he described as a personal charge, Nwoko welcomed the governor’s realignment with the APC as an opportunity to reshape the political and developmental landscape of Delta and Nigeria at large.

“This moment is not just about shifting allegiances,” he noted. “It is about the bold possibilities now within reach—possibilities like the creation of Anioma and New Delta states.”

The senator, who represents Delta North and chairs the Senate Adhoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft, affirmed that the APC had already endorsed the creation of the two new states, long before the defection occurred.

This, he said, signals the party’s readiness to address longstanding regional imbalances through constitutional amendments.

According to Nwoko, Anioma State would fulfill the long-standing aspirations of the people of Delta North for political identity and parity, while the proposed New Delta would correct deep structural inequalities, bringing governance closer to underserved communities.

He stressed that the APC, now in a strong legislative position, can push through constitutional reforms without making painful concessions. “We are not lobbying from a place of weakness—we are standing in strength,” he declared.

Urging the governor to fully embrace the APC’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Nwoko called this the “golden hour” for the South and Delta State in particular. “Two new states will mean two new engines of development,” he said, emphasizing improved infrastructure, increased federal allocation, and grassroots democracy as expected outcomes.

In closing, Nwoko challenged the governor to lead with courage and clarity: “Let us move forward, not cautiously, but courageously—with clarity and conviction.”

All eyes are now on Delta’s leadership to see whether this political shift will translate into meaningful structural change and lasting legacy.

SENATOR NED NWOKO’s  STATEMENT ON THE DEFECTION OF DELTA STATE GOVERNOR TO APC.

A New Dawn for New Delta and Anioma Statehood

By Senator  Prince  Ned Munir Nwoko

Delivered as a personal charge to the Governor of Delta State

With your courageous defection to the All Progressives Congress, a significant chapter in our nation’s political history is being rewritten. *This moment is not just about shifting allegiances, it is about the bold possibilities now within reach. For the first time in decades, we have a real chance to restructure Nigeria’s federating units through constitutionally backed reforms that serve justice, equity, and true federalism.*

As Governor of Delta State,  leading the charge  among five PDP governors now aligning with the APC, you have stepped into a party reenergized and focused, *a party that has already begun laying the groundwork for bold constitutional amendments.

Chief among these is the creation of two new viable states: Anioma and New Delta. Let me remind you, this agenda was declared a done deal by the party leadership long before your defection, a testament to the APC’s commitment to correcting historical imbalances and ending regional marginalization.*

It now behoves on you to rise to this historic moment. The past must not be carried into the future. As scripture warns, “ *No one pours new wine into old wineskins.” Old habits, old politics, and the old deals that led to the gradual decline of the PDP in Delta must be left behind.*

Your defection must not be symbolic, it must be transformative. This is your opportunity to embrace a new sense of purpose and demonstrate renewed dedication to progressive governance, fairness, and inclusive development. It is time to right the wrongs of the past.

Why This Moment Matters

The creation of Anioma State will finally give voice, identity, and institutional power to the aspirations of Delta North. It is a long overdue recognition of a people who have sought parity with their kinsmen.

The proposed New Delta will address the deep internal asymmetries within the current Delta State structure. It will empower neglected communities, bring government closer to the people, and unlock new paths for economic growth.

For the first time, the APC is armed with the numbers to amend the constitution. This time, we can fulfill these promises without demanding painful tradeoffs from the South. We are not lobbying from a place of weakness, we are standing firmly in a position of strength.

These changes are more than political. They are economic necessities. They are about focused governance, better infrastructure, increased federal allocation, and grassroots democracy. Two new states will mean two new engines of development.

Realignment Must Mean Responsibility

This is the golden hour for the South, and especially for Delta. Your move to the APC must be anchored in vision. Embrace the party’s progressive agenda. Lead the charge for constitutional reform. Leave behind the politics of survival and step into the politics of legacy.

Your decision to align with the President and the Renewed Hope Agenda will ensure that New Delta State, and Anioma is not left behind , but instead benefits immensely from the vast opportunities available at the centre.

Let us move forward, not cautiously, but courageously,  with clarity and conviction.

Thank you,

Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, Senator Representing Delta North, Chairman, Senate Adhoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft

Senator Nwoko Raises Alarm Over Insecurity in Delta North, Wants Action, Support for Vigilantes

0
BY AUSTIN OYIBODE
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has voiced serious concern over the rising insecurity plaguing communities across Delta North, warning of its crippling effect on agriculture and rural livelihoods.
Speaking during a recent Senate plenary, Nwoko painted a bleak picture of his constituency, where farmers are under constant threat from armed herdsmen.
“Insecurity is everywhere,” he said. “I come from Delta North. In every farm in Delta, there are herdsmen terrorising and killing our farmers. Our farmers can no longer go to farm.”
Despite the region’s significant oil wealth, the Senator emphasized that many residents depend on farming — a livelihood now endangered by violence and environmental degradation.
“The areas that are not degraded cannot be farmed because of herdsmen”.
Senator Nwoko called for a more localized approach to security, urging state governments to take proactive steps.
“We need to ask state governors to make efforts in this regard,” he said, adding: “Everything cannot be left to the federal government. The state governments must also form and fund vigilantes in every community.”
Backing his words with action, Senator Nwoko launched a security empowerment initiative on December 17, 2024, where over 60 vigilante operatives from Delta North were trained and equipped with communication gadgets.
The program, held at his senatorial office in Asaba in collaboration with the Defence Space Administration, was aimed at strengthening grassroots security structures.
Represented at the event by his Director of Security, Comrade Joshua Opia, Nwoko reiterated his commitment to peace and social stability, which he described as essential for development.

Senator Ned Nwoko launches campaign to actualize Anioma State creation

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE
Senator Ned Nwoko has launched a bold campaign to actualize the creation of Anioma State, declaring it a unifying dream for the people of Delta North and a historic opportunity to reclaim their identity and political relevance.
Speaking passionately in an exclusive interview with Leadership Newspaper, Senator Nwoko described the movement as a rallying call for justice, unity, and development.
The momentum behind the Anioma State movement has reached new heights following a massive political shift in Delta State.
Thousands of PDP members—mainly from the grassroots group, Delta Unity Group (DUG)—defected to the APC during a major rally in Agbor, signaling growing support for the initiative.
The event was attended by top political figures, including APC National Chairman Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje and the Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
“The most important thing is the boost the APC received under the national chairman’s leadership,” Nwoko said. “The defection of thousands from Delta North shows how serious our people are about change and progress.”
For Nwoko, the push for Anioma State goes beyond party politics. He emphasized that the creation of the new state is a step toward correcting decades of marginalization and reviving the cultural pride of Anioma people.
“Our people were massacred during the Civil War. In places like Asaba and Ishiagu, families were torn apart,” he said. “Many had to suppress their roots just to survive. Creating Anioma State will help us reclaim our heritage and heal from that trauma.”
Describing the campaign as a strategic move for national equity, Nwoko argued that Anioma State brings new territory, new resources, and real representation.” “This is not just a political cause—it’s a social and economic necessity.”
Senator Nwoko expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting key infrastructure projects in Delta North, including two major dam projects now funded in the 2025 federal budget to the tune of nearly N30 billion. This federal backing, he said, reinforced his decision to switch allegiance to the APC.
“This wouldn’t have happened under the PDP,” he stated. “President Tinubu made a promise—and he delivered. That’s the kind of leadership we need to make Anioma State a reality.”
Looking ahead, Nwoko remains confident. With oil, gas, and abundant mineral wealth, he insisted Anioma is economically viable and strategically vital.
“This is our time,” Nwoko said. “One people, one dream. Anioma State is not just possible—it’s inevitable.”  “This is our moment of restitution – a chance to rewrite our history and secure our future.”

“May this period of reflection and renewal strengthen our shared commitment to peace, compassion and national unity.”
Senator Nwoko said that Nigerian citizens should come together in the spirit of Easter to support one another and work toward a more inclusive and prosperous nation.

As the celebrations continue, Senator Nwoko urged Nigerians of all faiths to use the opportunity to pray for the country’s peace and stability, and to renew their commitment to building a just and united society.
Easter, one of the most important events in the Christian calendar, commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and symbolizes renewal, faith, and redemption.

Maris Lecture 2025: Oborevwori Says Investing N2bn On Roads In Each LGA Is Deliberate

Asaba–

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta says it was a simple but deliberate approach by his administration to invest two billon naira on roads infrastructure in each of the 25 Local Government Areas of the state.

The governor disclosed this in his remarks at the ywar 2025 Edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture with the theme, “Local Governance and Sustainable Development” held on Wednesday in Asaba.

He said that as a state government, his M.O.R.E. Agenda has been anchored on a foundation of inclusiveness, fiscal responsibility and grassroots development, adding that sustainable development was not a slogan but must be felt in every ward, village and town across the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Special Duties, Government House, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, the governor thanked the guest lecturer for delivering a well- researched lecture that had posed the puzzle for every government.

According to Oborevwori, “sustainable development demands that we meet the needs of today without compromising the future.

“The theme is apt, it speaks directly to the soul of our administration and our vision for Delta state. Local Government is the closest and most impactful to the people.

“When local government functions well, communities thrive, roads are maintained, schools function, healthcare becomes accessible and our youths find purpose.

“The local government must be empowered to drive inclusive growth.

“Since assumption of office, we have prioritised strengthening local government structure by ensuring transparency, accountability and community participation.

“We have invested over N2 billion each on roads project across all 25 LGAs of the state fostering connectivity and economic activity. Our approach is simple but deliberate.”

He noted that investing in infrastructure especially in the riverine communities helped connect people and opened up economic opportunities, promote human capital development through quality education and accessible healthcare.

He called for the strengthening of the local institution, adding that sustainable development would not be achieved by chance but by consistent people focused governance.

“It is our duty to ensure that as we pursue growth, we do not leave behind the vulnerable or destroy the environment that sustain us, however, sustainable development demands peace, unity and collaboration.

” I have consistently urged community leaders, president generals and traditional rulers to prioritise dialogue and mediation in resolving disputes.

“Peace is the foundation upon which development thrives. Let me remind us that no nation rise above the strength of its sub-national unit.

“The future of Nigeria depends not only on decisions made in Abuja but on what we all do in our wards, LGAs and states,’ he said.

Oborevwori, therefore, urged all to be dedicated to building a state and a country where the future generations could be proud of.

In his welcome address, the Chairman, Maris Trust Council, Sir Kenneth Olise, represented by Pharmacist Paul Enebeli, former President General, Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), thanked all who made it to the Sixth Edition in the series.

He said that the lecture series started in 2019 and was instituted in the memory of Stella-Maris’ Chukwufunimnenya Egugbo and he commended the Secretary of Maris Trust Council, Mr Fidelis Egugbo for working assiduously to sustain the annual lecture series.

Olise thanked the state government for supporting the lecture and for extending development to the community where Maris Schools was sited.

On his part, the Chairman of the Occasion, His Imperial Majesty, Obi Oputa III, lauded the guest lecturer for the impacting lecture and thanked the governor for the infrastructural development in the state.

The Guest Lecturer and Keynote Speaker, Sir Patrick Ejidoh, former Managing Director, Champions Breweries, called for collective action and a well defined framework and plan of action to achieve good governance and sustainable development at the local government councils.

He emphasised on the need for improved funding, capacity building and definitive roles for the local government councils, education partnership with communities, civil society organisation and the private sectors to promote good governance at the local institution.

He said that attaining the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) may not be realisable in 2030 due to lack of measurable indices (data) and clear road maps and lack of monitoring, adding that it required collective effort of all to achieve.

The discussants at the lecture which was moderated by Prof. Kemi Emina of Delta State University, Abraka, suggested that local government administration should focus on meeting the needs of people at the grassroots.

On his part, Mr Charles Aniagwu, Delta Commissioner for Works(Rural Roads) and Public Information, urged the council chairmen to prioritise and direct their limited funds to addressing the needs of the people at the grassroots.

“Construct earthen roads, renovate rural markets, undertake environmental sanitations and stay and consult with the people because the essence of governance is to reach out to majority of the people within the limited resources,” Aniagwu said.

Mr Vincent Oyibode, Chairman, Udu Local Government Council, Delta, said there had been competition among the LGAs in the state owing to improved funding and the monitoring since the current adminstration.

While an Entrepreneur and Estate Manager, Mabel Magbulu, urged the council to explore agriculture as an alterative for poverty reduction and jobs creation.

The Secretary Maris Trust Council, Fidelis Egugbo, thanked the governor and all stakeholders for supporting the lecture series and Maris Schools.

He pledged a more robust lecture come April 1, 2026, while urging more support for the Trust Council to create more opportunities for the less privileged in the community to acquire education at Maris Schools at an affordable rate.

In attendance are Rev. Fr. John Konyeke, Commissioners, local government chairmen, permanent secretaries, among others.

Senator Nwoko Says Anioma State is a shared commitment, not personal ambition

By Kenneth Orusi
The momentum behind the creation of Anioma State has grown beyond a regional demand into a calculated national movement, backed by key political heavyweights, and Senator Ned Nwoko is emerging as the central architect of its advancement.
Speaking at a recent gathering, Senator Nwoko offered rare insight into the behind-the-scenes negotiations that have placed Anioma State creation squarely on the national agenda.
His comments shed light on the critical role played by Nigeria’s top political leaders in endorsing the long-standing aspiration, while also revealing the political compromises required to push it forward.
“When I began serious advocacy for Anioma State, I held private meetings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other leaders in the National Assembly,” Nwoko disclosed.
“I made them understand this wasn’t just about me, it was about justice and opportunity for my people.”
According to Nwoko, the message was well received. “They all told me they understand the rationale. They support it in principle.
“But they also made it clear: for Anioma State to become their own project, one they could champion, it required political alignment.”
That alignment came at a cost. As a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the time, Nwoko said the clear message from the highest echelons of power was that meaningful progress could only be achieved through collaboration within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“That’s one of the major reasons I left the PDP,” he stated frankly. “The president, the vice president, and others made it clear: if this dream is to be realized, it has to be through the APC platform. That’s the reality of Nigeria’s political structure.”
Nwoko confirmed that his decision was not made lightly. He held multiple high-level consultations, including a private meeting with President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima at the president’s Lagos residence on January 1st. It was there, he said, that the final understanding was reached.
“This isn’t just between me and the president. It’s a pact among all of us, President Tinubu, Vice President Shettima, Senate President Akpabio, and myself,” he said.
“Anioma State is no longer a personal ambition. It’s a shared commitment.”
Nwoko made it clear that the creation of Anioma State is now intrinsically tied to national unity and strategic development.
He stressed that only the APC has the political infrastructure to actualize it.
“I say this to my mothers, sisters, and friends here today: the only party that can make Anioma State happen in Nigeria is the APC. Not because of political slogans, but because they control the machinery of government.”
As Nwoko prepares to take the message to every local government in Anioma land, he remains focused on development, not just politics.
“This isn’t about winning elections. It’s about giving our people a voice, a future, and a rightful place in the Nigerian federation,” he concluded.
The creation of Anioma State may still lie ahead, but the groundwork, political, legislative, and strategic, is firmly in place, thanks to an alliance of some of Nigeria’s most powerful figures, with Nwoko at its core.

NUJ Appeals to Isoko Sons and Daughters to Save Journalist Battling Cancer

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, is asking kind-hearted sons and daughters of Isoko to help save the life of one of their members, Comrade Dave Okpogadie, who is very sick and needs money to continue his cancer treatment.

Since 2024, Comrade Okpogadie has been battling cancer. He started his treatment with surgery at Asaba Specialist Hospital.

After that, he was moved to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu for chemotherapy and radiotherapy, special treatments that help fight cancer cells.

The NUJ Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, explained that Comrade Dave now needs to stay in the hospital for more than three months to complete his treatment.

Sadly, the cost is too much for his family and the Union to handle alone. That’s why they are asking for help from generous people in the Isoko community and beyond.

Chairman Oyowe said that the Union has already helped Dave twice before. “We have intervened at the initial stage. We gave out N1.8 million at first and then raised more money the second time. So far, we’ve raised about N4.5 million,” he said.

He also shared that one kind person, Comrade Shola Adebayo, gave a large donation of N2.5 million during the second round of fundraising

The Delta State Ministry of Information and the Delta State Contributory Health Commission have also supported the cause. The Ministry has written to the State Governor, asking for a special intervention.

But Chairman Oyowe said more help is needed, and fast. “We’ve spoken to the government, and they are working on it, but you know how government works, the machinery of government grinds slowly. We cannot wait because Dave needs treatment now.”

I know Isoko has many great sons and daughters.

“We are calling on them to help save Dave’s life. Cancer is treatable if caught early, but we must act now before it’s too late,” he added

“The committee has done a great job. They even spent their own money when needed, and we trust them to continue doing what is right,” the NUJ Chairman said.

Observers view the senator’s continued grassroots engagement as a sign of deepening ties with his constituents and a strategic step in strengthening his base

ahead of future legislative initiatives and development projects in the region.

Senator Nwoko’s visit to Kwale is part of a larger outreach tour aimed at reinforcing accountability, transparency, and responsive governance across the Delta North Senatorial District.

Worsening Insecurity: DOPF Wants Southern Govs to Take Decisive Action

The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has expressed deep concern about the worsening security situation across Nigeria, particularly in the Southern region.

The concern was raised in a press statement jointly signed by Mr. Emmanuel Enebeli, Chairman and Mr. Shedrack Onitsha, Secretary-General of Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) respectively.

The statement reads:

“We are alarmed by the growing wave of kidnappings, killings, raping of our mothers and daughters and terror being visited upon innocent citizens by criminal elements, many of whom disguise themselves as herdsmen or hunters.

“The situation has reached a breaking point and the continued silence or passive responses from our state governors is no longer acceptable.

“We strongly urge the governors of Southern Nigeria to take their constitutional responsibility as Chief Security Officers seriously and act with urgency to tackle this existential threat currently faced by our people in Southern Nigeria.

“The Land Use Act vests control of all lands in the hands of the governors, and they must not fold their hands while their people suffer untold hardship and terror on their ancestral lands. It is time for proactive leadership that prioritizes the safety of lives and property over “Political Interest.”

“We also call on the governors to take a cue from the bold and commendable stance of the Emir of Muri in Taraba State, His Royal Highness Abbas Njidda Tafida, who issued a 30-day ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen to vacate the region over repeated cases of kidnapping and killings allegedly perpetrated by some of them. In a viral video message, the Emir, visibly angry and frustrated, asked, “If people in the North can ask them to leave, why are Southerners treating them with leniency?” This is a question the Southern governors must reflect upon and act on decisively.

“While we support collaborative efforts with traditional rulers and community leaders, we caution that only those who have been security-vetted and found to be loyal to the peace and progress of their communities should be engaged. Intelligence reports have implicated some traditional rulers in the past for harbouring and shielding some criminal elements. Governors must not shy away from acting against such betrayal of public trust.

.”We also draw attention to the recent incident in Uromi, Edo State, where 16 persons were tragically killed following rising tensions between residents and suspected criminal herders. Such avoidable bloodshed is often the result of citizens losing faith in government to protect them. Similar fear has gripped parts of Delta State, where many farmers have abandoned their farms out of fear of attacks, leading to food insecurity, and loss of livelihoods. These tragic events are calls to action, not just mere rhetoric.

“Finally, we remind the Southern governors that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in a directive to the Governor of Plateau State, clearly charged state leaders to take ownership of the security situation in their domains and deploy all lawful means to restore peace.

“We reiterate for the purpose of driving the point home that Governors must take note that the primary purpose of government is not to compromise on the sacrosanct responsibility of protection of the life and property of the people and providing for their welfare.

“The President’s directive must therefore be followed and enforced in the South. The time for rhetoric is over; our people deserve peace, protection, and purposeful governance.”

Senator Ned Nwoko says Oborevwori not welcome in APC

By Unue Emeka

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, has firmly stated that Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is not welcome in the All Progressives Congress (APC). The senator declared that the APC is set to defeat Governor Oborevwori and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a high-profile political event in Agbor, Nwoko’s comments came during the formal defection of members of the Delta Unity Group (DUG) from the PDP to the APC in Ika Federal Constituency—a development seen as a major realignment in the state’s political landscape.

The gathering saw the presence of key APC figures, including National Chairman Alhaji Umar Ganduje, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, and former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. The event marked a significant boost for the APC’s base in Delta State.

Amidst ongoing speculation that Governor Oborevwori may be planning to switch parties, a claim his media aides have repeatedly denied, Senator Nwoko addressed the rumors head-on. “Oborevwori wants to come to APC, but tell him to stay where he is. He will be defeated. We don’t want him in APC,” Nwoko said bluntly.

He suggested that the governor’s rumored interest in joining the APC may be tied to President Bola Tinubu’s reported ambition to secure Delta State in the next election cycle. However, Nwoko emphasized that APC does not need Oborevwori to achieve that goal.

Confident in APC’s growing influence, Nwoko told the crowd that Delta State will elect its next governor from the APC. He attributed this momentum to public frustration over what he described as 25 years of misrule by the PDP.

“Delta will surely become an APC state come 2027. Twenty-five years of corrupt governance by the PDP is enough. We must take over,” he said. “The APC is ready to deliver better governance, and we are gaining ground every day.”

Encouraging party supporters, Nwoko added, “Go home and tell them—the next governor of Delta State will come from APC. We’re emboldened today because groups like DUG are joining us in this movement.”

Senator Omo-Agege echoed Nwoko’s sentiments, clarifying that while the APC remains open to welcoming new members from the PDP, Governor Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, are not among them.

Omo-Agege cited the ongoing wave of defections from PDP to APC—reportedly over 60% since 2023—as evidence of the party’s rising strength. He predicted a clean sweep for APC in Delta State in 2027, including the governorship, Senate, and House seats.

Political observers have warned that accepting Oborevwori into APC could backfire, potentially alienating voters who associate him and Okowa with the leadership they hope to replace. Such a move, they argue, might erode the APC’s credibility as an agent of change in the state.

Senator Nwoko also reaffirmed APC’s support for the creation of Anioma State, accusing the PDP of resisting the initiative to retain control over Delta State. His statement drew enthusiastic applause from the audience, underscoring popular support for both the proposed state and the party’s rejection of Oborevwori.

The defection of the DUG members is seen as a significant win for the APC and a possible tipping point in the race for 2027. As the political dynamics shift in Delta, the PDP’s dominance faces one of its toughest challenges yet.

APC National Chairman Ganduje
Declares Anioma State a “Done Deal” at Historic Delta Rally

By Lucy Ezeliora

In what is being hailed as a turning point in Delta State’s political trajectory, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has publicly endorsed the creation of Anioma State, declaring it a “done deal” backed by the APC leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dr. Ganduje made the declaration during a high-profile rally held in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, where thousands of supporters and defectors welcomed a delegation of APC heavyweights. Among them were Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo; Senator Ovie Omo-Agege; Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu; Chiedu Ebie, Chairman of the NDDC Board; and Senator Ned Nwoko, the leading proponent of the Anioma State movement.

The rally marked a significant political shift, as scores of members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Delta United Group (DUG) defected to the APC in what was described as a wave of renewed faith in the ruling party’s leadership and vision.

In his speech, Ganduje assured the Anioma people that the APC is fully committed to the creation of Anioma State.

“I bring you assurances from President Tinubu, our governors, the National Assembly, and the entire APC structure—Anioma State is no longer a dream, it is a done deal,” he said.

He emphasized the move as a step toward national unity, equitable development, and correcting historical imbalances, especially in Delta North.

The endorsement has been seen as a significant win for Senator Ned Nwoko, whose persistent advocacy for the new state has gained national traction. Nwoko has led the charge through grassroots mobilization, legislative engagement, and strategic alliances across party lines.

Senator Nwoko, who recently left the PDP to join the APC, addressed the crowd with optimism, stating that the creation of Anioma State will bring development, representation, and justice to the people of the region.

“For the first time, Anioma has come this far in the fight for statehood. With Anioma State, we will have our own governor, our own senators, and increased federal presence,” he said.

He highlighted the broader implications, including job creation, infrastructure development, and increased federal allocations.

“This is about giving our youths a future—more schools, better roads, hospitals, and greater opportunities,” Nwoko added.

According to the Senator, the proposal has already gained support from influential national figures, including the President, members of the Senate, and other stakeholders across Nigeria.

“The leadership of this country recognizes the importance of this cause. They’ve told us: push from your end, and we will help you get it through,” he said.

Calling for unity among the Anioma people and stakeholders across Delta, Nwoko clarified that the push for Anioma State is about development—not division.

“We want a state where our people can thrive and contribute more meaningfully to Nigeria’s progress,” he said.

He also revealed that over N30 billion worth of federal projects have been approved for Anioma, many of them facilitated through his efforts.

These include a N7 billion initial investment in the long-abandoned Ogwashi-Uku Earth Dam and ongoing federal road projects such as the Benin-Asaba Expressway and the Agbor-Obiaruku-Abraka Road, supported by the NDDC.

Nwoko’s defection to the APC has not only boosted the party’s strength in Delta State but also dismantled what he described as the PDP’s long-standing political hold on the region.

Senator Ned Nwoko says Preparations on for public hearing at Senate on fate of Anioma State

By Kenneth Orusi

A renewed push for the creation of Anioma State has taken center stage in Delta State’s political discourse, led by Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

The call for the new state, which has been a longstanding aspiration of the Anioma people, gained significant momentum as the senator provided an update on the legislative process and national backing for the initiative.

Speaking on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at a high-profile community engagement in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Senator Nwoko addressed stakeholders and supporters during an event organized by the APC Women Support Group, in collaboration with Rita Daniels Single Parenthood Initiative, the Girl Child Initiative, and the Regina Daniels Charity and Development Foundation.

In his speech, Nwoko reiterated his commitment to seeing the creation of Anioma State come to fruition, highlighting the critical progress already made at the federal legislative level.

According to him, the proposed bill has passed both first and second readings in the Senate without a single objection and is currently being reviewed at the committee stage—a significant step toward the realization of a new state in Nigeria.

“In the Senate, I serve on the Constitutional Amendment Committee, one of the most important committees in the National Assembly. This committee has 37 senators drawn from across the country, and I am proud to be the representative of Delta State on it. The proposal for Anioma State has already made it to this level, which is no small feat,” Nwoko said.

The senator explained that the next phase of the legislative process would involve a public hearing, during which Nigerians, especially indigenes of Delta North and supporters of state creation, will be able to share their views.

“We are now preparing for a public hearing in the coming months. That is the next major milestone. After that, the bill will return to the Senate for a third and final reading before it is forwarded to the President for assent.

“At that point, the executive arm of government will be in a position to fulfill its promise and complete the process,” he added.

Nwoko urged his constituents to remain hopeful and engaged, emphasizing that their active participation during the public hearing would form part of the final outcome.

“I encourage everyone who can make it to Abuja during the public hearing to come and lend their voice. This is a historic moment for Anioma people and for the future of Delta North. Your presence will be powerful,” he told the audience.

The call for Anioma State, which would potentially be carved out of Delta North Senatorial District with Asaba as its capital, has been a subject of debate and advocacy for decades. Supporters argue that the creation of the state would address issues of marginalization, boost development, and ensure more equitable representation at the federal level.

Senator Nwoko echoed these sentiments, outlining the socio-economic benefits of the proposed state.

“If Anioma becomes a state, we would no longer be sharing key positions with other zones. We would have our own governor, deputy governor, commissioners, and others. Additionally, we will have three senators representing Anioma state—which means a stronger voice at the federal level,” he said.

He further explained that more states translate into more job opportunities, greater federal presence, and increased budgetary allocations for development projects. According to him, the proposal is not just about political recognition, but also about creating new avenues for growth and empowerment.

“Imagine what this would mean for our youths—more schools, more roads, more hospitals, and more funding for social development. It’s a win-win for everyone,” he said.

Senator Nwoko also noted that the Anioma State proposal has received support from various quarters at the national level, including senior figures in the ruling party, the President, and lawmakers from different geopolitical zones.

“The leadership of the country understands the significance of this move. From the President to the National Woman Leader, and from our colleagues in the Senate, there is growing support. They’ve all said the same thing: if we push it from our end, they’ll help us finish it,” he shared.

While addressing the political history of Anioma’s representation in the Senate, Nwoko reflected on the past, stating that previous senators had not prioritized state creation as a central legislative agenda.

He clarified that his approach is different, and that he remains determined to complete the work that others may have initiated but were unable to advance.

“I am not the first Anioma senator. We’ve had Senator Osakwe, Senator Okowa, Senator Nwaoboshi before me. But this time, we are taking it all the way. I didn’t start this journey, but as I always say, I will finish the race,” he declared confidently.

The senator’s remarks have ignited renewed optimism among supporters of the Anioma State initiative, who believe that the current political climate may finally be favorable for the long-envisioned goal.

Observers say the increasing support for the state’s creation and the legislative progress it has made could reshape the political landscape of Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially as conversations about representation, equity, and identity take center stage once again.

Senator Nwoko concluded his speech with a passionate appeal to unity and cooperation among Anioma people and other stakeholders across the state.

“This is not about division—it is about development. It is about fairness and inclusion. We want a state where our people can thrive, where our culture is celebrated, and where we can contribute more significantly to the progress of Nigeria,” he said.

As preparations continue for the public hearing, all eyes remain on Abuja and the Senate chambers where the fate of Anioma State now lies.

The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has extended warm felicitations to High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, the Chairman of Tantita Security Services Limited, on the occasion of his 53rd birthday anniversary. The Forum described Tompolo as a patriotic son of the Niger Delta whose impactful leadership and vision continue to contribute meaningfully to national growth and regional development.

In a congratulatory message jointly signed by the Chairman of DOPF, Emmanuel Enebeli, and the Secretary, Shedrack Onitsha, the Forum commended Tompolo for his unwavering support to the media industry in Delta State, noting that his commitment has helped in sustaining the operations of online media platforms and promoting press freedom in the region. The statement acknowledged his consistent efforts in encouraging objective journalism and ensuring that the voices of the Niger Delta people are heard.

The Forum also lauded Tompolo’s significant contributions to Nigeria’s economic environment through his company, Tantita Security Services Limited. Leaders from Igbanke pay solidarity visit to Senator Ned Nwoko …Seek to join Anioma State

The country home of Senator Ned Munir Nwoko in Idumuje-Ugboko once again hosted a notable visit yesterday, as traditional rulers and leaders from the Igbanke community paid a solidarity call to the Senator. Led by Amb. Chief Jude Ogbekile and HRH Boba Igiebor, Obi of Idumuodin, the delegation came to reaffirm their unwavering support for the creation of Anioma State and to emphasize their deep desire for inclusion in the proposed state.

The visit is part of a growing movement for the creation of Anioma State, a cause championed by Senator Ned Nwoko in the upper chamber. Amb. Chief Jude Ogbekile, speaking on behalf of the Igbanke community, conveyed their continued support, emphasizing that the people of Igbanke are united in their belief that the creation of Anioma State will bring much-needed progress and empowerment to their people.

Ogbekile emphasized that the people of Igbanke though geographically situated in Edo State are culturally and ethnically part of the Anioma (Igbo) identity. “We are Igbo people in Edo State. Igbanke is not Bini. Our place is with Anioma, and we are here to restate our commitment to that reality,” he said.

HRH Boba Igiebor, Obi of Idumuodin, echoed similar sentiments, noting the shared resolve across the region for the state’s creation. “Our people know who they are. We know our roots. Anioma State will help restore that sense of belonging,” he said.

The delegation also presented an e-flyer bearing the inscription “IGBANKE IS NOT BINI — Igbankes Are Igbo Community in Edo State,” reinforcing their appeal for inclusion in the new state.

The visit follows a similar show of solidarity in November 2024, when monarchs from the Igbanke and Obazagbon communities also lent their support to the Anioma State movement. Both monarchs and community leaders have consistently stressed the importance of administrative autonomy for the Anioma people, believing it will lead to better representation and accelerated development.

With less than two years into his first term, the governor’s administration has already completed key infrastructure projects and introduced reforms aimed at boosting economic growth and improving the standard of living in Delta State.

Senator Ned Nwoko influence is the driving force behind massive defections from PDP across Delta State ahead 2027

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

Fresh political developments across Delta State indicate that Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, is making significant strides toward his vow to dismantle the longstanding dominance of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state by 2027.

Since his high-profile defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Nwoko has been vocal about his mission to end what he described as PDP’s “inglorious” 25-year rule. In various interviews, he accused the PDP of mismanaging the state’s wealth, stating that despite receiving trillions of naira in federal allocations and internally generated revenue over the years, Delta remains underdeveloped.

He insisted that real progress in Delta can only come through a political shift—one that puts the APC in control.

Recent investigations and political developments across the state suggest that Senator Nwoko is well on his way to fulfilling that ambition. Since his defection, there has been a notable wave of resignations from the PDP across all 25 local government areas of the state.

The trend began in Oshimili South through to Aniocha North, then a large wave in Ika North East, where social media platforms were flooded with resignation letters from PDP members, many of whom cited disillusionment and pledged loyalty to the APC.

On Friday, April 11, 2025, another wave of multiple defections hit the PDP in Ukwuani local government area where a number of party members dumped the PDP and pledged loyalty to Senator Ned Nwoko.

Observers believe that the growing influence of Senator Nwoko is the driving force behind the massive defections. Within just two years in the Senate, Nwoko is said to have made more visible impact in his constituency than many of his predecessors, which has earned him considerable grassroots support.

This widespread support is now manifesting in a significant political realignment in Delta North. For the first time since 1999, the PDP is experiencing an unprecedented wave of defections, with many seeing their prior decision to oppose Nwoko as a political misstep.

Alarmed by the shift, PDP leaders have been scrambling to contain the fallout, holding emergency meetings across the nine local government areas in Delta North. The state’s governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, is reportedly uneasy amid fears that the APC could challenge his re-election bid in 2027.

The situation escalated further when photos emerged on Wednesday from the APC national secretariat showing Senator Nwoko in a group photo with former Deputy Governor Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, APC state chairman Omeni Sobotie, Great Ovedje Ogboru, and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje. Though Otuaro’s media aide dismissed rumors of a defection, describing the gathering as a meeting on national issues, multiple sources suggest otherwise.

Investigative journalist Fejiro Oliver claimed in a Facebook post that Senator Nwoko played a key role in facilitating Otuaro’s move to the APC. When confirmed, Otuaro’s defection would represent a significant blow to the PDP, given his longstanding influence in Delta politics.

Oliver noted that while Otuaro was expected to defect in 2022 or 2023, political calculations delayed the move. Now, under Nwoko’s guidance, he appears ready to cross over, further shifting the political balance in the state. This move could have substantial implications for upcoming elections, especially the contest for Senate seats across Delta’s three senatorial districts.

Adding to the turbulence, reports indicate that a prominent PDP figure in Warri North—closely associated with former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa—is also being courted by Nwoko to join the APC. Though the individual had previously denied the rumor in a video statement, recent comments from a notable politician suggest the move is indeed in motion.

In a related development, Great Ogboru’s return to the APC has also been attributed to Senator Nwoko’s behind-the-scenes efforts. Nwoko himself confirmed to this reporter via WhatsApp that he was behind the defection of Great Ogboru.

With these strategic defections and alliances, the APC is rapidly gaining ground in Delta State, positioning itself as a formidable force ahead of the 2027 general elections. Many political analysts believe that the PDP’s long-standing control over the state is nearing its end.

As the political dust settles, one thing is clear: Delta State is undergoing a dramatic political transformation—one that may alter its trajectory for years to come.

FEC Endorses Naira-for-Crude Policy: Senator Nwoko’s vision gains ground

FEC Endorses Naira-for-Crude Policy: Senator Nwoko’s vision gains ground” –

After years of advocacy and debate, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has officially adopted a transformative policy aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s local currency: the Naira-for-Crude directive.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Finance announced that all future crude oil transactions with local refiners must now be settled in Naira. This decision puts an end to previous hybrid arrangements that allowed payments in foreign currencies, signaling a firm commitment to restoring the dignity and value of the Naira in Nigeria’s economy.

Among those who have long championed this shift is Senator Ned Munir Nwoko of Delta North. For years, Senator Nwoko has consistently advocated for a “Naira-first” economic philosophy. His core argument has been that no currency can thrive unless it is given priority in its own domestic transactions — from wages and contracts to critical exports like crude oil.

Although many initially dismissed his ideas as unrealistic in a dollar-dominated global economy, Nwoko remained resolute. He even introduced legislation to prohibit the use of foreign currencies in local transactions, arguing that such practices undermined the status and strength of the Naira.

The new FEC directive now lends significant validation to his campaign.

If properly enforced, the policy could trigger a substantial increase in demand for the Naira, particularly among major players like the Dangote Refinery and other local operators. This could, in turn, help stabilize the currency and potentially enhance its value. Over time, a successful implementation could set a precedent for similar Naira-based reforms in other sectors.

At its heart, the directive is a bold step toward reclaiming economic sovereignty. In a country where foreign currencies often overshadow the local one — even within its own borders — this policy offers a chance to restore national confidence in the Naira.

Still, execution will be key. Nigeria’s policy landscape is littered with ambitious ideas that faltered at the implementation stage. Yet, the official embrace of this once-radical proposal signals a turning point. What began as a lone voice is now government policy.

Senator Nwoko’s persistence and principled stance deserve recognition. His vision for a Naira-first economy is no longer a fringe idea — it’s becoming national strategy. As he often reminds his critics, “It’s not about rejecting the dollar. It’s about respecting the Naira.”

HOW SEN. NWOKO’S UNMATCHED POLITICAL ENERGY HAS SHAPED DELTA NORTH — BY KENNETH ORUSI

0

BY KENNETH ORUSI

Since assuming office as the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Ned Nwoko has demonstrated an unmatched political energy that continues to draw admiration from both allies and opponents.

His brand of politics, fueled by vision, relentless drive, and genuine grassroots connection, is reshaping what it means to serve in Nigeria’s National Assembly.

Senator Nwoko, a lawyer, philanthropist, and former House of Representatives member, came into the 10th Senate with a reputation as a pragmatic thinker and strategic mobilizer.

However, what has unfolded in his first year in the red chamber goes beyond expectations.

His tireless legislative activism, community engagement, and unyielding commitment to development have set him apart from many of his peers.

One of the most defining traits of Senator Nwoko’s political energy is his visibility and accessibility.

Unlike many who recede into the shadows after election victories, Senator Nwoko has remained firmly present among his constituents. His legislative contributions further reflect this same vitality.

Within months of taking office, Senator Nwoko sponsored critical bills aimed at reforming the various sectors of the Nigeria economy and bring development to rural dwellers.

Most notable is his push for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture in Delta North, which he believes will boost food security, create jobs, and transform the local economy.

Senator Nwoko’s political energy is also seen in his bold national outlook. He has not shied away from calling for systemic reforms, including the restructuring of Nigeria’s revenue allocation formula and strengthening of local government autonomy.

His interventions during Senate plenaries have often reflected deep research, patriotism, and a desire to challenge the status quo for the greater good of Nigerians.

Beyond the floor of the Senate, his philanthropic legacy through the Ned Nwoko Foundation continues to complement his public service.

From scholarship awards to medical outreach, water projects to youth empowerment, his impact transcends legislative boundaries.

These efforts not only enhance his credibility but also create a sense of shared purpose between him and his constituents.

Observers believe that what powers Senator Nwoko’s unbeatable political energy is a rare mix of passion, preparedness, and purpose.

His years of international exposure, experience in the legislature, and robust understanding of the Delta political terrain give him a solid footing to engage with issues from both local and national perspective.

Of course, his journey hasn’t been without challenges. From political opposition to the demands of a high-profile public office, Nwoko faces pressures like any other elected leader.

Yet, it is the way he rises above these challenges, staying focused, principled, and active, that reinforces his growing reputation as a formidable force in Nigerian politics.

As 2027 draws nearer, political watchers are already speculating about Senator Nwoko’s next moves. Calls are already being made for him to run for the 2027 general elections. The belief is that he has given a voice to the Anioma people in the National Assembly.

Whatever the future holds, one thing is clear: Senator Ned Nwoko’s political energy is not only unbeatable, but it is also contagious.

He is inspiring a new generation of leaders who understand that service is not a title but a daily responsibility.

In an era where many are jaded by political apathy and underperformance, Senator Nwoko stands as a reminder that with the right motivation and mission, politics can still be noble.

His energy is not just a personality trait, it’s a leadership strategy. And for Delta North, it’s yielding results.

Sen Nwoko Procures Over ₦30 Billion Projects for Delta North Through Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

BY DANIEL DAFE

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has announced that he has facilitated projects worth over ₦30 billion aimed at transforming the lives of constituents in Delta North and neighboring areas.

The projects, he said, are part of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and are being financed through special intervention funds from the Federal Government.

In a statement shared on his Facebook page Wednesday evening, Nwoko highlighted the focus of these projects on key sectors like infrastructure and agriculture.

According to him, “These projects which are being funded through Mr. President’s special intervention funds, will address critical infrastructure needs and significantly boost agricultural productivity across the region.”

Among the initiatives mentioned, Senator Nwoko pointed to ongoing work under the Benin-Owena River Basin Authority.

This includes the construction of water treatment plants and reticulation systems at the completed Ogwashi-Uku Dam in Aniocha South.

He also cited the Idumuje Dam project in Aniocha North, where over ₦7.5 billion has already been committed to enhancing water management solutions.

“We’re prioritizing irrigation systems to support year-round farming,” he added, “along with providing quality seedlings, fertilizers, and farming equipment to our local farmers to improve food security.”

The Senator emphasized that the projects are a result of his close collaboration with President Tinubu and the Federal Government.

“These efforts are not only in fulfillment of my campaign promises but also a reflection of our shared vision for a more prosperous Delta State,” he said.

Earlier the same day, the Senator’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Michael Nwoko, led a technical team to the site of the Idumuje Dam for an inspection.

Speaking after the inspection, Dr. Nwoko confirmed that the dam’s feasibility study has already been captured in the budget, with design and construction phases set to follow.

He noted that the dam will feature all the key components of a modern facility, including water treatment, distribution systems for individual homes, and hydroelectric infrastructure. “The goal is to ensure consistent and safe water supply across Delta North communities,” he said.

Dr. Nwoko also recalled that Senator Nwoko was instrumental in attracting the Ogwashi-Uku Dam during his tenure in the House of Representatives between 1999 and 2003.

“Now, with both Ogwashi-Uku and Idumuje Dams in place, we’re on track to finally solve the region’s long-standing water distribution challenges,” he said.

“These projects clearly reflect Senator Nwoko’s commitment to delivering people-focused initiatives and keeping his promises to the people of Delta North,” Dr. Nwoko said

Voter Card Fraud Plot Emerges Ahead of Anambra Election

By Sunny A. David, Awka

A scheme to hijack voter cards ahead of Anambra State’s November 8 Governorship election has been uncovered.

Individuals are allegedly collecting National Identification Numbers (NINs) from unsuspecting residents, using the information to fraudulently issue new voter cards in their own names and those of accomplices.

Dr. Law Mefor, Anambra State Commissioner for Information, confirmed the plot in a statement.

The statement says investigations, including inquiries with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), show no legitimate NIN revalidation process is underway in the State.

Instead, these individuals are reportedly acting as agents for desperate politicians, exploiting personal data to impersonate voters.

This scheme allows perpetrators to vote in place of legitimate citizens, while denying the rightful owners access to the electoral process by altering the voter database.

The Anambra State government urges anyone asked to provide their NIN to contact the State Security hotline, 5111, to report the individuals involved.

Police Affairs Minister Says Budget for Police Information System before Tinubu

The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam on Tuesday said Nigeria remains committed to collaborate with other countries in the West African subregion to fight back insecurity.

He said the nation was ready more than ever before to share information with other countries in the subregion towards ensuring enhanced security for Nigeria and the rest of the countries in the subregion.

Gaidam made the disclosure at the formal handing over of the West African Police Information System (WAPIS) to national and regional authorities.

WAPIS is an European Union sponsored information system implemented by the INTERPOL.

The project which has lasted for 12 years is coming to a close and the sub-region is expected to take ownership of the project which aimed at developing the security information infrastructure of the police and other relevant agencies. The project also aimed at enhancing robust Information sharing on crime and other criminal activities within the subregion.

Speaking at the occasion which was held at the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, Gaidam said Nigeria has benefited greatly since the inception of the project.

He said with EU funding coming to an end, his ministry has prepared a budget which is already receiving attention by the President.

Gaidam said: “Today’s ceremony symbolizes Nigeria’s strong commitment and active role in regional security cooperation through the WAPIS Programme. Let us continue to build on these achievements and collaborate towards sustaining the WAPIS initiative, ensuring enhanced security for Nigeria and the West African Region.

“Understanding the imperative of sustainability, the Ministry of Police Affairs, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has proactively submitted a comprehensive budget proposal to His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief, Federal Republic of Nigeria. I am pleased to report that this proposal is currently receiving commendable attention from the Office of the President.

“Moreover, as a further commitment to ensuring seamless and effective operation, I personally oversaw the provision of stable and reliable internet connectivity at the DACORE, facilitating continuous and effective communication with remote locations.

“Additionally, in our deliberate move to foster ownership and operational efficiency, the Ministry recently organized a three-day WAPIS Workshop themed “Interagency Collaboration on Information Sharing among Law Enforcement Agencies in Nigeria.” This vital workshop brought together key stakeholders from various law enforcement agencies, resulting in strategic deliberations that were encapsulated in a communique presented to the Federal Executive Council (FEC).”

The minister while commending EU and other partners for the initiative, also seeks the continuous support of the regional body, saying that “as we progress further in enhancing regional cooperation and security through WAPIS, aiming for sustainable peace and stability in West Africa.”

On his part, the President of ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray said the region is faced with monumental threats, some of them existential, because of its tmgeographical location as well as many other factors.

He noted that through IPWAS, ECOWAS is building security infrastructure instruments across member states and beyond in order to combat these threats, which include human trafficking, insecurity and other criminalities.

Touray, who was represented by the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Amb. Abdel-Fatal Musah, stressed that WAPIS has succeeded in bridging the gap in the area of information sharing and this needed to be taken further and that will require a continuation of the WAPIS agenda.

He therefore said that “ The platform, the digital platform for gathering, storing, managing, sharing information in order to enhance collaboration against criminality in our region could never have started at a better time than when it did.”

He however said the work is still in progress and has not stopped with the handing over of the project to ECOWAS, saying that: “ECOWAS still has not fully, under the WAPIS arrangement, completed the creation of a regional platform. Some of our member states are also lagging behind in even creating the network nationally in order to facilitate monitoring of criminal activities in our region.

“Those are very critical elements that we have to continue with. And we know that intelligence sharing is not easy because intelligence sharing goes to the very core of national security and people will say sovereignty and then all others.”

He also added that: “Even as the funding by the European Union is coming to an end, we need to broaden partnerships and still continue collaboration with the European Union to see what is possible in order to maintain the expertise that has been developed in the course of the WAPIS process. That is very important.”

Musah in an interview with the media, also stressed that the project is part of the infrastructure being built to fight criminality in the region.

He however expressed displeasure with the slow pace and the lack of platform by the region.

He said: “You know, the duration that this process has taken. It has been almost 12 years since it began. It just tells you about the slow pace that it has taken. And even as we speak, the regional platform is not ready, but they are handing over. And in some member states, even the inter-agency coordination mechanism is lacking.
Something about fighting crime requires a lot of political will and trust. Because criminality, who is a criminal, who is not a criminal, one man’s criminal is another man’s hero. So you need to build that common agenda.

“So the duration of it, and the fact that we have not been able to complete this process, are two of the challenges that we have now. And hopefully, after this handover, as we think about whatever is happening, we will see.”

He noted that the process will require “a lot of advocacy to make sure we push it forward. And then the principle of reciprocity. Meaning that we are not going to share our database with a region like the EU if they do not share their database with us. It has to be on equal terms.”

“So if we give you the petty criminals, you have them and the big shots are in the European capitals, in Latin America, then the whole exercise is futile. Because what you want to stop is to stop criminality from the countries of origin, the countries of transshipment, that is West Africa, and then the country of the end users in Europe and others.

“So if we do not have that network that brings all these factors together, then the database will be limited to our region. In terms of exchange of information, which is a good thing. But like I said before, even at that level, we haven’t reached there yet.”

The EU ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, on his part, said the project has been a success, stating that:
“Well, we think the programme has been very successful, because we’ve seen that it has been adopted by the individual countries. And there were around 750,000 datas entered into the platform.

“Criminals, stolen cars, stolen objects, fraudulent documents, stolen documents. And it has led to success in law enforcement. So that’s really the reason for the objective of the programme.”

He also said the EU will be willing to share Information with ECOWAS, saying “ one of the interests of such a platform is also to open the possibility of exchanging data out of the region, out of West Africa, also through Interpol. And the fact that Interpol is so much involved in this programme, of course, is a very important asset from this point of view. But the most important part is for each individual country to have this digital platform, and for the cooperation between the countries of the region.”

Mignot, while stressing the importance of the platform, said: “Because today, crime is transnational, very much. And so, if you don’t know the information that your neighbouring country has, you won’t be able to fight crime efficiently.”

He also revealed that the project has received funding of €38 million over 13 years, since its inception in three phases. And the third phase, which will be closing in a few weeks, was financially the most important with 28 million euros in financing.

On his part, INTERPOL Executive Director for Police service, Cyril Gout spoke about the challenge of bringing all the ECOWAS countries on the same digital page.

He said: “And the most pressing challenge is having all those countries contributing on their sides or allocating resources, but also deciding themselves to share a legal framework. To share a legal framework, to be consistent in the information that they do share through the police information system. So twelve years, it’s a while, but it’s just sufficient to be at the level where we are today.”

He also stressed that it is the beginning of a new, safer era. “That’s the beginning of new initiatives where the governments, where the countries of West Africa take ownership of what they have. Towards digitalisation, towards access to more information in the region, to bring this information for the success of investigation, to have more safety in controls.”

Borno: Zulum Decries Rising Boko Haram Attacks

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has raised an alarm over the escalating attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP, urging the federal government and security agencies to take decisive action before the situation spirals out of control.

There has been a surge in past months in Borno communities as insurgents have led relentless assaults targeted at villages and military outposts, particularly in Sabon Gari, Wajiroko and Wulgo, among others.

During an expanded security meeting at Borno State Government House Maiduguri , Zulum urged the federal government to prioritise the security of the North East, particularly Borno State, which shares borders with three neighbouring countries—Chad, Cameroon, and the Republic of Niger—as well as security concerns in the Sahel region.

The governor said: “While we appreciate the tremendous support from the federal government and the military, we also want to state that with the current focus in the fight against insecurity shifted from the northeast, all the gains we have recorded so far will be reversed.”

He added that: “In recent times, Borno State has been witnessing sporadic attacks from Boko Haram insurgents; many military formations were dislodged, such as in Wulgo, Wajiroko and Sabon Gari, among others. It seems we are losing ground.

“Therefore, we want to appeal to the federal government to ensure that the northeastern part of the country receives the desired attention. It seems the focus of the Nigerian Army and the Ministry of Defence is not on the northeast.”

Zulum noted that the northeast, particularly Borno State which is neighbouring three countries in the troubled sahel region deserves more attention from federal government in its resolve to fight terrorism in Nigeria.

Zulum further stressed, “The recent escalation of Boko Haram attacks across the state is a matter of utmost concern. There is an urgent need for aggressive military action and actionable intelligence to counter the insurgency. The recent attacks on Sabongari, Damboa, Wulgo, Baga and Monguno point to the need to up our ante in confronting BH insurgency decisively and swiftly.

“I call on our armed forces to not only mount checkpoints and guard our towns and villages, I also call on our armed forces to take the battle to the enemy. We should not grant breathing space to the terrorists to regroup, rearm and carry out attacks on our territory. By engaging in relentless patrols, picketing and decapitation missions, our troops should defeat and end the insurgency in time so that our recovery plan will progress without let or hindrance.”

The Governor restated his commitment to continually support the military and other security agencies working in Borno State to achieve their objectives of fighting insurgency in the state.

The Governor noted, “Borno State government will continue to work closely with the armed forces to execute our development and peacebuilding programmes. We are deeply conscious of the nexus between development, security and peace. Hence, as we invest in critical infrastructure, we are also opening new avenues for our citizens to engage in agriculture and sustainable livelihood.

He added, “All these will not be possible without resourcing and empowering our security agencies to secure our territory and safeguard citizens’ lives and property. My government will continue to support our defence and security agencies while pushing them to perform better when encountering terrorism, insurgency and criminality.”

Briefing journalists after the closed-door session of the security meeting, Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, noted that among the resolutions at the end of the meeting, the security council had expressed support to Borno State Government’s resettlement efforts.

The meeting was attended by the GOC 7 Div, Major General Abubakar Haruna, Traditional rulers from the 7 emirate councils of Borno and other heads of security outfits.

By Erhasumwen Amadin

The immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Professor Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyin, has commended the Member Representing Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun (KSC), for keeping his promise to fix access road in the University’s College of Medicine.

Professor Adagbonyin made the commendation on Tuesday while commenting on the progress made so far on the on-going construction of functional drainage system which will serve as a useful flood control measure to complement the road project also being embarked upon by Rt. Hon. Onobun.

Professor Adagbonyin recalled that in January, 2024, Onobun had personally called him to intimate him of his intention to do a project for the University.

“When he mentioned the College of Medicine, it was like a bolt from the blues, and both of us had agreed that the College of Medicine was an appropriate location for the project, considering its strategic importance to the University and based on the fact that a motorable, well-drained road had become desirable for the College and for its teeming students.

“Rt. Hon. Onobun, after our conversation, immediately requested me to do for him a Brief of Engineering Management and Evaluation, which I got the Physical Planning Unit to do. I forwarded to him in no time.”

The former Acting Vice Chancellor said, “On January 23rd, 2024, Rt. Hon. Onobun brought the good news of the approval of the budget for the project by the appropriate federal authorities. That excited me in no little way. On his part, the law maker’s enthusiasm was unabashed.”

Professor Adagbonyin informed that the Rt. Hon. Onobun was persistent on the implementation of the programme from the stage it was advertised by the Federal Ministry to when it was awarded. His zeal saw to it that months later, he was delivering on his promise.

“Note that he is not facing any impending election; note that he is not under pressure in any way. A promise keeper remains a promise keeper. I’m personally grateful to him for his unmitigated selflessness, commitment and interest in seeing this project through in Ambrose Alli University. I’m also proud to have given him my full support in the preparatory stages of the project during my time as Acting Vice Chancellor.”

Professor Adagbonyin described Rt. Honourable Onobun as a young, vibrant politician who has always loved Ambrose Alli University beyond being its worthy Alumnus. “He has an inviolate visionary acumen. I’m so happy about his important contribution to the development of the College of Medicine, and super glad to be seeing the progress of the project even when I’m out of office,”
Professor Adagbonyin said.

Checks by this reporter on the drainage which forms part of the road project shows it is more than fifty percent completed. Upon eventual completion the road project is expected to ease human and vehicular movement within the College, arrest erosion challenges and beautify the physical outlook of the College.

DSCTDA decries incessant dumping of Waste on koka fly over bridge *Urges Residents to register with private sector waste disposal coys

By Chibuzor Ogode

In a bid to consolidate the continuous effort of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration to create a clean, secure and Green environment for the people, the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency continues to carry out inspections and sensitization exercises around the capital Territory, with a call on stakeholders, shop owners and market traders to register with private sector waste disposal companies and stop dumping waste on the median kerbs, walkways, setbacks, koka fly over and other unauthorized places in the capital Territory.

Speaking during the inspection and sensitization exercise on Friday 4/4/2025 at the koka fly over, the Head of Administration and Finance of DSCTDA, Mr. Vincent Ohwofadjeke, who was accompanied by some staff members of the Agency, warned those who had turned the koka fly over bridge to refuse dump to desist from the negative practice.

Mr. Ohwofadjeke, who decried the high level of indiscriminate dumping of waste on the koka fly over, setbacks walkways, drains and other unauthorized places, also frowned at illegal trading activities going on under the koka flyover, and urged the people to support the efforts of the state Government to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.

Ohwofadjeke explained that the DSCTDA is a Government Agency created to accelerate Development within the Capital Territory and that Environmental sanitation is one of the Sub functions of the Agency.

He also made it clear that Delta State Waste Management Board is in charge of keeping the koka flyover clean and that PWAN Group; a Real Estate company has been given the contract to beautify the koka flyover on a PPP arrangement and that work was seriously ongoing. He noted that a police post is being built by the side of the koka flyover and that the presence of the police around the koka axis would help reduce crime rate in the area and get rid of miscreants, hoodlums and street urchins that have currently taken over the Coker Bridge. The Agency also revealed that an existing but disfunctional public toilet was also being reconstructed by the side of the koka flyover. This is aimed at stopping the nuisance of continuous defecation on top and around the Coker flyover bridge.

While addressing traders at the summit fruit market, he said that “the Agency is not out to inflict pains on street traders, which is why the Agency is constantly out ensuring that traders are constantly keeping their environment clean with the daily sanitation program currently going on.

“Anybody that is found wanting, doing any other thing apart from what has been announced, dumping dirt on the drains, walkway and setback will be apprehended and prosecuted. This is a sound warning from Delta state capital Territory Development Agency. We are set out and we are determined to make the state clean,” he added.
