The Delta State Government says the administration has entered into a partnership with Junior Achievers of Nigeria, with the aim to assist and empower survivors of trafficking in the state.
The State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services, and Girl Child Development, Miss Orode Uduaghan, made this known in Asaba, the state capital, while briefing members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Asaba Correspondent’s Chapel, on programs and policies of the ministry for the new year.
Miss Orode Uduaghan also noted plans by her ministry to partner with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP, to train girls in senior secondary levels SS1, SS2 and SS3, on measures to prevent trafficking and common antics deployed by traffickers to lure their victims.
According to her, “This organization is coming to Delta State to partner with Secondary Schools to teach girls who are in SS2, SS3 entrepreneurial skills. His Excellency (Governor Sheriff Oborevwori) just recently approved that, so that is going to be happening in all the trenty five local government areas of the state.”
Also on girl-child development initiatives, the Commissioner announced that the state government had approved a program to train girls in the twenty five local government areas between the ages of eighteen and thirty-five on digital literacy, entrepreneurship skills and business management to become self-sustaining individuals.
She observed that in the last year, the ministry in partnership with Entrepreneurship Development Center had empowered two hundred and fifty persons in each of the twenty five local government areas, where one thousand seven hundred outstanding participants were given grants of a hundred and fifty thousand naira each, to set up their businesses.
On the humanitarian agenda of the ministry, Miss Orode Uduaghan pointed that under the M.O.R.E Grant Scheme focused on business holders from poor and vulnerable households, the government had provided between seventy thousand naira and a hundred thousand naira, to one thousand six hundred petty traders to encourage their businesses.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs added that one thousand eight hundred and twenty six artisans engaged in various works also received support under the M.O.R.E Grant Scheme executed by her ministry.
[Miss Uguaghan stressed] “We had about thirty professions, we are talking about people who repair bicycles, to people who repair fridge etc. His Excellency (Gov Oborevwori) supported one thousand eight hundred and twenty six of them.”
Meanwhile, the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Asaba Correspondent’s Chapel Comrade Ifeanyi Olannye, commended the important role played by the Humanitarian Affairs, Community Support Services and Girl Child Development ministry in supporting poor and vulnerable households, especially under the current economic hardships.
Comrade Ifeanyi Olannye, who emphasized the role of journalists as watchdog of society, with a duty to hold the government accountable, also pledged the support of members of the union to promote the developmental agendas of the government.
It is regrettable that Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, rather than engaging in sober reflection and demonstrating humility after his recent incarceration, continues to indulge in delusions of grandeur and outdated political entitlement. His latest remarks, laced with misplaced bravado and a glaring sense of myopia, suggest he still clings to the archaic belief that Delta North’s political future can be manipulated and twisted at will.
It is imperative to state unequivocally that Senator Ned Nwoko, a man of substance, vision, and progressive ideals, remains focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to his constituents and uplifting Anioma people. Senator Nwaoboshi, on the other hand, appears to have learned little from his time away—a period that should have been dedicated to introspection and remorse for his past track record as a “contractor senator,” turning the dignified position of a legislator into a platform for merchant greed and personal gain.
The claim of being “Mr. Equity” is laughable when juxtaposed with his historical record of manipulating justice and bending the political will of the people to suit his self-serving interests. The Delta North electorate is no longer beholden to political machinations and empty rhetoric. Nigerians, particularly Anioma people, have awakened to the necessity of leadership rooted in accountability, integrity, and development, qualities Nwaoboshi sorely lacks.
His assertion that he is “politically, financially, and educationally superior” to Senator Ned Nwoko is nothing short of delusional. Leadership is not measured by inflated egos or narrow-minded posturing but by tangible achievements, genuine service, and a proven track record of public good. Senator Nwoko’s sterling human capacity development philanthropy, empowerment and global contributions to malaria eradication, his legislative milestones, and his unwavering commitment to equity and development stand in stark contrast to Nwaoboshi’s theatrics and penchant for controversy.
Rather than attempting to rewrite history or engage in political mudslinging, Nwaoboshi should dedicate his energy to rehabilitating his tarnished image and convincing Delta North that he has indeed paid his penance. Electioneering should be the farthest thing from his mind in this new era where accountability reigns supreme.
Senator Peter Nwaoboshi would do well to focus on fostering unity and progress rather than sowing seeds of discord. Let him refrain from dragging Senator Ned Nwoko’s name into his futile attempts at political resuscitation. The people of Delta North deserve leadership that is forward-thinking, not a return to the dark days of manipulation and mediocrity.
The days of backdoor politicking are over. Delta North has moved on, and it is high time Senator Nwaoboshi did the same.

Nigeria’s energy sector is set for a boost as petroleum marketers, in collaboration with three oil companies—Claridge Petroleum Company Ltd, Oasis Petrochemical Products Limited, and Afrintech—announce plans to establish a 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery in Akwa Ibom State.
The project, spearheaded by the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), aims to address the country’s dependence on imported refined products and ensure access to affordable fuel for Nigerians.
This development echoes Senator Ned Nwoko’s consistent advocacy for strengthening Nigeria’s local production capacity and reducing reliance on imports. The distinguished lawmaker representing Delta North senatorial district, which consists of nine local government areas, six of which are oil producing, has long called for bold measures to address the imbalance in Nigeria’s petroleum sector, emphasizing the importance of refining crude oil locally, encourage modular refineries, create jobs, and ultimately strengthen the Naira.
Through legislative efforts, such as his motion titled “Need to Investigate the Incessant and Nefarious Acts of Crude Oil Thefts in the Niger Delta and Its Actors” and his Bill to restrict foreign currency transactions in Nigeria, as well as his broader push for economic policies that prioritize local production, including his proposed motion on “Compelling Need to Ban Importation of All Non-essential Goods and Locally Producible Items in Nigeria”, Senator Ned Nwoko has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s economic sovereignty. He has consistently argued that empowering the local economy is the only sustainable way to build a stable and self-reliant nation.
Senator Ned Nwoko, in his motion on the need to investigate crude oil theft in Niger Delta region, urged the Federal government to legalise artisanal refining to enable the production of more refined products at affordable rates for Nigerian citizens.
The ongoing efforts to establish a 50,000 barrels per day (bpd) refinery in Akwa Ibom, modernize existing refineries and the emergence of modular facilities, signal a new era for the petroleum sector, one that aligns with Senator Ned Nwoko’s push for economic policies that make the Naira stronger and ensure a more productive future for Nigerians.
This progress reinforces the lawmaker’s vision of a more resilient and productive Nigerian economy.
This is the time for Nigeria to consolidate gains from these initiatives, creating an enabling environment for investments in refinery development, ensure policy consistency, and prioritize local production in all sectors of the economy.

BY OSITA BIOSE The recent barrage of unwholesome articles against the member representing the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency, Rt Hon. Ngozi Okolie has raised concerns about the fairness and motives behind assessing his performance, particularly less than two years into his tenure. As a member of the Labour Party and a former PDP chieftain, Okolie has already faced significant challenges, including a contentious election and subsequent legal battles, which he ultimately won in court. However, the narrative of media blackmail appears to have taken precedence. The Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency has been fortunate to have had distinguished representatives in the National Assembly. From Hon. Paschal Adigwe to Hon. Ned Nwoko, Hon. Joan Onyemaechi, Hon. Godwin Elumelu, and now Hon. Ngozi Okolie, each of these leaders has left an indelible mark on the constituency. Hon. Paschal Adigwe is known for his contributions to education and healthcare development in the constituency. Hon. Ned Nwoko, a seasoned politician and lawyer, held various public offices and significantly advanced infrastructural development during his tenure. Hon. Godwin Elumelu, a veteran lawmaker, served in various capacities, including a stint as the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives. Hon. Joan Onyemaechi was a trailblazer who empowered women and youth during her time in office. Presently, Hon. Lawrence Ngozi Okolie has highlighted his achievements, including providing scholarships to students, supplying desks and tables, installing solar power, and constructing infrastructure alongside his robust legislative functions. However, Hon. Okolie faces several challenges. Firstly, the contentious factionalisation surrounding his election was unexpected, with many believing the Labour Party could not defeat the PDP or APC. This victory has since been marred by controversy. Protesters have claimed, in one breath, that he has no projects and, in another, that he is claiming projects. To date, they have failed to specify whose projects he is allegedly claiming, thereby inadvertently lending him credibility. This situation may further reposition the lawmaker to undertake more projects in 2025, ahead of the 2027 elections, without compromising his pace in delivering dividends to his constituents. Secondly, the election petition and subsequent legal battles, although short-lived, have aimed to divert attention from leadership pursuits, policy implementation, and project delivery. Despite these distractions, he remains focused on his mandate, concentrating on legislative and oversight functions while lobbying for better representation. As a newcomer to the House, Hon. Okolie must navigate the intricacies of legislative politics, build relationships with colleagues, and master the complexities of lawmaking. In light of these challenges, it is crucial to afford Hon. Lawrence Ngozi Okolie the same time and space given to his predecessors for healing, growth, and proving himself. Constituents and stakeholders should offer their support rather than rush to judgement, recognising that his success is inextricably linked to the development and prosperity of the constituency. Several factors warrant consideration. Firstly, the people of Aniocha/Oshimili have high expectations from their representative, given the successes of his predecessors. However, conditions can improve if he is provided with a serene, enabling environment and cooperation. Secondly, Hon. Okolie must learn the intricacies of being an effective politician, a process that takes time and experience. Lastly, as a first-timer in the Green Chambers, he must build relationships with his colleagues, which is essential for effective representation. Hon. Lawrence Ngozi Okolie deserves patience, support, and understanding as he navigates the complexities of modern politics. Constituents and stakeholders should recognise his contributions to scholarships, infrastructure development, and solar power initiatives, without losing sight of his legislative duties. Success is a collective responsibility, and together, without conflict, they can achieve greatness for Aniocha/Oshimili.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Tuesday, said he was out for bad contractors who execute shoddy jobs for the state.
He vowed severe sanctions for them and site engineers who okay shoddy jobs for payment.
Governor Oborevwori issued the warning shortly after inspecting the 6.5 kilometer Achalla-Ibusa Road being executed by the state government.
The Governor, who frowned at the poor quality drainage executed by the contractor handling the project, reiterated that his administration would not tolerate any shoddy job.
He disclosed that his decision to inspect the project stemmed from an unsatisfactory feedback he had received from individuals that he had previously sent to evaluate the project.
Governor Oborevwori noted that he will prioritize road inspection this year, adding that his goal remained to ensure that his administration constructs quality road projects worthy of commissioning.
“This year, we are starting with more of inspection. The work on Achalla-Ibusa Road is bad, very bad. I have told the Commissioner and the Director that we cannot accept the drainage.
“The poor drainage will not affect the stone basing and the asphalting of the road; so, the contractor can continue by taking advantage of the dry season.
“This will serve as a warning to other contractors. There is no contract work that l will not go and inspect. If you do a bad work, we will not pay you. Even if we paid you, the site engineer will be in trouble.
“This government will not tolerate a situation where site engineers connive with contractors to deliver sub-standard projects.
“If you want to please me or be my friend as a contractor, do a good job; if you don’t do a good job as a contractor, you can’t be my friend,” he said. He stressed that some of the contractors would be blacklisted for doing shoddy jobs
The Governor pointed out that his administration would not spend money on projects for which Deltans would not get value for the money spent.
“Starting this January, I have committed to personally inspect projects, not just in Asaba but across all 25 local government areas.
“Any contractor who fails to report to their site or delays the work will face contract revocation. We will re-assign such projects to those willing to deliver.
“Our terrain requires us to maximize the dry season for construction. Over the next four months, we aim to complete and commission significant number of projects.
“By the time we reach two years in office, we want to celebrate substantial progress across multiple sectors, including roads, health and education.
“Deltans have not seen projects yet; there is going to be a lot of projects coming. We are going to award more projects this year across all sectors,” the governor added.
Governor Oborevwori, who also inspected the recently completed 2-kilometer road leading to the 63 Brigade Barracks of the Nigerian Army in Aboh-Ogwashi, applauded the contractor for the speedy execution of the project contract for which, he said, was awarded three months ago.
“We awarded this project three months ago, and I am pleased to commend the contractor for doing an excellent job. This road will encourage further development, allowing the Army to proceed with building structures in the area,” he said.
Other projects inspected by the Governor included the gully erosion site along Okpanam-Ibusa bypass, the perimeter fence and road around Asaba International Airport as well as Kwekagbor Layout, opposite Summit Junction, Asaba.
On Friday, January 10, 2025, the leadership of the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria, (PFAN), visited Distinguished Senator Ned Munir Nwoko at his Maitama residence in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The visit, according to the President of the association and ex-international, Tijani Babangida, was to seek the support of Senator Nwoko, who is the Acting Chairman, Senate Committee on Sports, in enhancing the welfare of active professional football players and those who have retired from the game of football.
Tijani, a former Super Eagles winger and Ajax player, told their host that the association was formed primarily to empower footballers within and beyond the sporting circles and harness the power of football as a national and global unifying force.
He said the association was keen on partnering with Senator Nwoko’s Sports University, the first of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa, located in Idumuje-Ugboko, Delta State.
The proposed partnership, according to him, would help to nurture young football talents and provide robust educational opportunities for sports professionals, noting the need to strengthen the structures that support Nigerian footballers.
Tijani Babangida emphasized PFAN’s commitment to working with Senator Nwoko and other stakeholders to build a thriving ecosystem for sports development in the country.
Responding, Senator Nwoko, representing Delta North senatorial district in the National Assembly, reaffirmed his commitment to supporting sports development in Nigeria
He assured PFAN of a closer working relationship to ensure the realization of the set objectives of the association, stressing the importance of players’ welfare and the broader growth of the game of football as a unifying force in the country.
No doubt, the visit was informed by Sen. Ned Nwoko’s pioneering effort in Nigeria’s sports and education sectors through the establishment of STARS University.
The Sports University, now in its third academic session, according to the Senator, was founded for talent development as it would identify and nurture young sports talents in Nigeria and beyond.
The institution would also provide academic and practical training in sports management, coaching, and physical education, as well as foster research and innovation in sports science, medicine, and technology.
With a state-of-the-art modern sports complex with facilities for various sports, including football, basketball, tennis, and athletics, well-equipped lecture halls, laboratories, and libraries, Ned Nwoko’s STARS University has all it takes to produce graduates who will be talented in different fields of sports, backed up with the academic know-how to carry on even beyond the circle of sports.
Also with sports training and education, which the Idumuje-Ugboko based University is equipped to provide, the era of professional sportsmen and women retiring to idleness and poverty should be considered to be over as Sen. Nwoko’s initiative will enable professionals to stand on their own without having to depend on anyone for survival.
Needless to say that local and international partnerships are needed to make the University thick and the authorities of the institution have acknowledged that by collaborating with foreign Universities and renowned sports institutions to facilitate exchange programs, research, and knowledge sharing.
The partnership solicited by PFAN and its interest to work closely with the University, as well as the collaboration of other sports organisations, clubs, the Federal and State governments, are equally crucial to promoting sports development and early talent identification in the country.
In April 2024, a significant event unfolded in Delta State, Nigeria, involving the detention and subsequent release of His Royal Majesty, King Clement Ikolo, Urhukpe I, the monarch of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
The monarch’s detention was linked to a tragic incident in Okuama community, where 17 military personnel lost their lives.
Following the incident, the Nigerian Army declared King Ikolo and seven others wanted.
Demonstrating his commitment to due process, the monarch voluntarily surrendered to the Delta State Police Command, which subsequently handed him over to military authorities for investigation.
The monarch’s detention prompted swift action from Delta State’s political representatives. Senators Ede Dafinone (Delta Central), Ned Nwoko (Delta North), and Joel Onowakpo-Thomas (Delta South) engaged with military authorities to advocate for the king’s release.
Their concerted efforts culminated in a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Musa, and other military officials.
On April 19, 2024, the Nigerian Army released King Ikolo into the custody of Senator Dafinone, who acted as a surety, ensuring the monarch’s availability for any further investigations.
The release was formalized at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, where the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, emphasized that while preliminary investigations had not conclusively established the monarch’s culpability, the inquiry remained ongoing.
Senator Dafinone expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the Chief of Defence Staff, and the Chief of Army Staff for their roles in facilitating the monarch’s release.
He stated, “The release of His Royal Majesty, King Clement Ikolo, Urhukpe I, brings a sense of relief and reassurance to our community.”
He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of his fellow senators, Nwoko and Onowakpo-Thomas, in securing the monarch’s freedom.
Upon his release, King Ikolo was reunited with his family and expressed appreciation for the fair treatment he received during his detention.
He pledged to support ongoing investigations to ensure that the perpetrators of the Okuama incident are brought to justice.
The monarch’s release underscores the importance of dialogue and collaboration between traditional institutions, political representatives, and security agencies in addressing complex security challenges.
This incident highlights the delicate balance between maintaining national security and upholding the rights and dignity of traditional institutions.
The proactive involvement of the senators and the subsequent release of the monarch reflect a commitment to due process and the rule of law.
As investigations continue, the community remains hopeful for a resolution that ensures justice for the fallen soldiers and peace for the Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom.

Since his inauguration on May 29, 2023, the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approached governance with a steadfast commitment to his MORE agenda, delivering on promises to an understandably expectant populace.
Now, 19 months into his first term, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has demonstrated remarkable capacity in meeting public expectations. His achievements across various sectors are evident and impressive.
Like an adept marksman with a full hunting bag, Oborevwori’s accomplishments weigh heavily in his favour. The evidence of his success is visible across numerous sectors, reinforcing his dedication to the state’s growth and progress.
In pursuit of enduring peace, a prerequisite for sustainable governance, Governor Oborevwori’s administration, shortly after assuming office, inaugurated the State Advisory and Peace-Building Council.
This distinguished council, comprising respected elders from diverse communities of Delta State, has played very critical role in identifying and addressing potential threats to peace and security.
Their proactive efforts have created the conducive atmosphere necessary for development and public service delivery. The Office of the Special Adviser on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution has also been at play in the peace building efforts of the state government, which has also been very supportive of the security agencies by the steady supply of critical inputs, including patrol vehicles and other operational equipment and kits.
By the last count, the government had delivered over 60 brand new patrol vehicles to security agencies in the state in an effort to strengthen their daily operational capacity.
It has also ensured that the state’ security outfit, Operation Delta Sweep, remains well oiled to ensure the effective exercise of its mandate.
The Oborevwori’s administration has demonstrated a commendable commitment to public service by maintaining and supporting the state’s workforce.
Upon assumption of office, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori chose to sustain the existing workforce through prompt payment of salaries and other emoluments for both active and retired officers.
Notably, well ahead of its peers, the administration paid N10,000 per person per month over a three- month period to its over 50,000 workforce. It also upheld the then minimum wage of N30,000 and went a step further by introducing and implementing a flexible new work schedule—an initiative that added significant value to the welfare of the workforce.
Under the schedule, non- critical staff members enjoy the luxury of two days off duty per week, without prejudice to their annual holidays. The new work schedule saved them the cost of transportation to work on the affected days, just as the payment of the palliative of N10,000 per month, aimed to insulate the personnel from undue exposure to the harsh effects of the removal of petrol subsidy by the Federal Government.
Besides, the administration equally provided brand new vehicles for Permanent Secretaries, the echelon of its Civil Service. It also committed a sum of over N5 billion to liquidate the arrears of the promotion benefits of affected public officers. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is the first Governor to approve and implement the payment of the new minimum wage. As against the N70,000 threshold, the Governor approved the payment of N77,500 to civil servants.
Yet, that is not all. In a move that is as revolutionary in conception as it is in execution, the administration actively encouraged/ supported the local governments in the state through guarantee of a N40 billion facility to offset the huge arrears of retirement benefits owed local government pensioners, and approved the recruitment of more than 3,000 primary school teaching and non-teaching staff, aiming to strengthen and revitalize the sector.
The N40 billion facility has empowered local governments to fulfill their obligations to pensioners, effectively addressing one of the most challenging issues in public service in contemporary Nigeria.
With regard to the provision of road infrastructure, the administration split the Ministry of Works in two, Highways and Urban Roads; Rural and Riverine Roads, with both now handling over 513 inherited and new road projects, many of which have been completed. In all, the roads span over 1,500 kilometres, while the drainages cover more than 950 kilometres.
The administration has undertaken significant road infrastructure projects, including the Trans-Warri Road with its numerous culverts and bridges, the Ughelli-Asaba dual carriageway, and the stunning flyover bridges and road projects at PTI Junction, DSC Roundabout, and Enerhen Junction.
Additionally, the ongoing Orere Bridge and numerous other projects are spread across the state’s three senatorial districts, reflecting a commitment to balanced development.
In the Education sector, the administration has established and operationalized a campus of the Southern Delta State University (formerly Delta State University of Science and Technology, DSUST), Ozoro, at Orerokpe, as well as introduced a College of Health Sciences at the institution’s main campus in Ozoro.
It has also maintained the operations of the state’s four public Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Colleges of Health Technology and Nursing. The administration also approved the recruitment of over 600 staff to strengthen the sector. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori also approved implementation of salary review of 25 to 35 per cent for tertiary staff.
The government has equally ensured the smooth running of the more than 1,300 public primary and secondary schools in the state.
Besides, it has, in spite of the harsh economic realities, paid more than N1 billion to more than 60,000 deserving tertiary students of the state origin, by way of bursary, for two academic sessions.
The impact of the Oborevwori administration has equally been felt in the vital sector of agriculture, where it has actively supported crop and fish farmers across the state with inputs, including fertilizers, feeds, fingerlings, cash and technical extension services.
In recognition of the importance of the health sector, the administration has been highly proactive. It has upgraded facilities in several general hospitals, provided substantial funding to numerous Colleges of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology, and established a College of Health Technology at Ovrode, which is now operational. As part of its efforts to create conducive environment for Health workers, the state government is building more quarters for Doctors and Nurses.
With regard to empowerment, the Oborevwori government has enabled more than 250,000 persons with cash and other modes of aid, under the aegis of Delta CARES and other initiatives.
The administration has disbursed financial grants to 2,000 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs, in the state to grow their businesses and cushion the effects of the inclement economic realities in the country through the state’s Job Creation Office.
In sports, the government has, by its proactive support of the Delta State Sports Commission, sustained the culture of excellence in competitive sports engagements at the national level by retaining the overall winners’ diadem at the National Youth Games, NYG, and the National Sports Festival (NSF). It has also sustained the Principals’ Cup and the Headmasters’ Cup football contests among secondary and primary schools in the state.
As part of his avowed determination to advance the independence of the judiciary, the Oborevwori administration has completed and inaugurated the State High Court Complex which consists of si floors, six court rooms, six conference halls, six witness waiting rooms, six holding cells, six secretarial offices, two general conference halls, a ceremonial hall, Multi-purpose Hall, lawyers’ lounge, judges’ lounge, VIP lounge and a library, among others.
The new High Court Complex also have internet access and other critical Information Technology (IT) facilities in the building to enhance e-filing of court processes and e-payments for services rendered by the High Court of Justice.
In addition, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori presented 20 brand new Toyota Prado Jeeps to Judges in the state and official vehicles to other Judicial officers for ease of movement. He is also building Judges quarters across the state to address accommodation problems.
In housing, the administration has commenced the building of 50 housing units made up of 30 three bedrooms and 20 two bedrooms in three different locations as a pilot scheme. Eight units of duplex is also being constructed to accommodate more Commissioners in the quarter.
As part of its efforts at diversifying the economy of the state, the administration has sealed a deal with UTM LNG for the harnessing of the huge reserves of natural gas in the state.
This deft move is expected to earn more income for the state, reduce the tempo of gas flaring in the state, help preserve the environment and equally encourage Deltans to embrace cleaner energy for domestic use.
It would take far more space than is available here to comprehensively outline the numerous development initiatives of the Oborevwori administration. However, it is worth noting that, based on the progress so far, the administration has kept alive the hope of Deltans for accelerated, cost-efficient development of the state.
This hope is set to evolve into even greater expectations in the coming year, as evidenced by the allocation of over N630 billion for capital projects in this year’s budget. Notably, each local government area has been allocated a mandatory N2 billion specifically for road development, in addition to the impressive N250 billion earmarked for road infrastructure across the state. What could be more reassuring than this?
A week after a deadly tanker fire claimed lives and damaged properties at Agbor, Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District has offered to help families of the victims with material support.
Last Sunday, a tanker conveying fuel on old Lagos road Agbor,in Ika South local government area ,lost control and burst into flames.
About 6 people died in the inferno while properties worth millions of Naira were burnt.
Moved by the tragedy , Senator Nwoko sent a delegation to meet with families of the casualties, days after issuing a public statement of condolence.
Speaking on behalf of the Federal lawmaker, the Head, Senator Ned Nwoko senatorial Office Asaba, High Chief Ugo Asibelua expressed sadness over the incident.
He said Senator Nwoko was “deeply touched about the tragic deaths and loss of properties”
In his remarks ,the Senior Legislative Aide and Chief of staff in the office of Senator Ned nwoko, Dr Michael Nwoko said “the visit was to sympathize with the families and take record of losses” for necessary succour by the Senator
He said “Senator Ned Nwoko would provide appropriate financial assistance in his characteristic spirit of charity”
He urged the families of the victims and those who lost their properties to be calm as the Senator was committed to their welfare in this time of distress.
Among places visited by the team were the scene of the Agbor tanker accident and homes of the victims – Deaconess Adomgbor Deborah, who was caught in the fire while returning from Church,Donatus Udoka, a generator mechanic and Rashidat, a bureau de change operator who hailed from Kebbi state.
The Ika South and Ika North East local government coordinators, Ned Nwoko senatorial office, Mr Stanley Ehiedu and Mr Alfred Idehen thanked the senator for “his untiring efforts in uplifting the material well being of the people of Delta North and Nigerians in general”
When an institution that is expected to conduct itself on the basis of informed facts begins to act and react on the basis of speculation or rumour, we must see that something must have gone wrong with its medulla, its core.
It is therefore no wonder that, acting through its State Publicity Secretary, Barr Valentine Onojeghuo, the Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress allowed itself to issue a public statement, as recently reported, in reaction to what Onojeghuo himself clearly termed “speculations” that His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is seeking to defect to the APC.
It is even sadder that Onojeghuo describes himself as a lawyer who ordinarily should know the need to act on the basis of facts, but we can understand that the Delta APC is suffering from incontinence and cannot help itself.
Incontinence in common parlance is “peeing in the pants.” In addition to adverse medical conditions, it occurs when someone is seriously stressed, stricken by deep fear, loses his brain control, becomes unable to control his vital organs, and thus drips involuntarily.
That appears to be the condition that is currently afflicting the Delta State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, pitifully.
Consumed by the psychological trauma, pathological grief, chronic sadness and irreversible depression over the massive rejection of its candidate by Deltans in the 2023 Governorship election, it has numbed itself into recurring nightmares and now suffers anxiety, self-suffocation and pervasive fear as Deltans look determined to re-elect Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027.
Oborevwori being not a self-conceited person and not given to unnecessary showmanship, they had imagined that their candidate, Ovie Omo-Agege, would defeat him in the elections, but Deltans made a rigorous character judgment of the two, and supported Oborevwori massively to hand Agege a crushing defeat.
Feeling woefully disgraced, they instigated the institution of about 38 litigations to upturn the victory, but Oborevwori also defeated them in all.
Deflated, they resigned with the hope of relaunching their bid in 2027, but the responsible, inclusive leadership style and sterling performance being delivered by Oborevwori is already assuring his return, at the same time showing them that they will suffer even more disgraceful defeat in 2027.
All across the state, Deltans are pleased with the projects and programmes of the administration. They richly appreciate the pace of work on the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, the Warri and Effurun three flyover bridges, a cloverleaf and massive stormwater drainage channels projects, all going on simultaneously in the metropolis.
They had thought that they have been disregarded and forgotten and did not ever anticipate the projects, talk less of the engagement of Julius Berger to handle them, but as they commute daily, they are pleasantly surprised to see the projects taking shape rapidly. This is in addition to the Trans Warri Ode-Itsekiri Road and hundreds of other internal roads and drainage projects in the area.
It is the same for the people of Ndokwa East for whom the Beneku Bridge has been done while over 26 other road projects are on across Ndokwa and Ukwuani.
It is the same for the Ijaw nation where the Bedeseigha Bridge has been done, while action is now on the Ayakoromo Bridge, the Ohoror-Bomadi road, Ogulagha-Odimodi road, with various other internal road projects completed and ongoing from Patani, Burutu to Bomadi LGAs.
In Oshimili/Aniocha axis the people are happy with the completion of the Okpanam-Ibusa Bypass, the Isheagu-Ewulu road and several internal road projects also completed or ongoing in Asaba, Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku and a number of other towns and villages.
Deltans can see that Ughelli area is already wearing a new look, not only with the reconstruction of roads in Ughelli Township and other suburban centres, but especially with the speedy work on the Orere-Ewu bridge with spurs to connect over 26 communities.
Such critical road projects have been delivered and more are ongoing in Isoko, Ika, Sapele, Udu and Okpe lands. In fact, as at the last count, there are over 500 road and drainage projects going on across the state.
Other sectors, from education, transportation, agriculture and housing, are not left out. In health, about 260 Primary Health Care Centres and 64 General Hospitals are being renovated, upgraded and re-equipped.
Perhaps, the more immediate results are the administration’s social investments, with D-CARES beneficiaries raised from 36,000 to over 250,000 under two years, besides the deliveries of the MORE Grant, the MORE Biz-Up programmes to strengthen micro, small and medium enterprises, and the intensified output of the Job Creation Office.
The same goes for the state work force, retired or in active service, who have had all their dues and more provided, and the youth and student communities who are enjoying the Delta “ukodo” like never before, with regular bursary and free medical services anywhere they are.
Truly, any opposition is bound to “pee in the pants” seeing these remarkable performances and knowing that they effectively destroy any formidable chance or hope for them to come to the contest in the next election.
Their condition is worsened by the acknowledgement of Oborevwori’s outstanding performance and rising profile in the national political sphere.
Why would Delta APC not pee in the pants when President Bola Tinubu has come publicly to acknowledge, describe and commend Oborevwori as a Governor for all, Pan Deltan, a detribalised leader and bridge-builder, adding that if we have more of his type, this country will be better?
Why would the Delta APC not pee in the pants when the Nigeria Governors Forum in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Health conceded to Delta State the Bill and Melinda Gates Awards for Primary Health Care Development in a peer review with other states?
Why will the Delta APC not pee in the pants when Oborevwori’s infrastructure building projects have been reported to the President as “unimaginable” by no less a person as the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, a gentleman who says it as it is.
In comparison, in the last election the Delta APC paraded a candidate whose best public reputation is about the brigandage of mace snatching, an image that President Tinubu would never associate with to trade off his long and hard earned reputation as a democrat.
But perhaps, the most woeful betrayal of irresponsibility by the Delta APC is in their inability to understand why Governor Oborevwori has called for public support and hugely collaborating with the Tinubu administration to ensure the success of the ongoing socio-economic reforms.
Need it be emphasized that the country is one nation and the success of the Federal Government has a corresponding success effect on all the states?
For the avoidance of doubt, the PDP is basically driven by these establishing principles: the pursuit of the socio-economic development and growth of the nation, the prosperity of the people and the deepening of democracy for the sustenance of good governance, and they have remained the guiding values of the Delta State Governor.
But like we have noted, the Delta APC is living in a crippling fear of him, so we can understand why they have become sleepless and incontinent.
They are only hoping to survive through unintelligent propaganda as they are currently engaged in. Pitifully for them, “e no go work.”

He honoured his words, presenting sundry medical facilities: beds and Trolley stretchers, examination and delivery couches, nursery cot and test tube rack, syringes and stethoscopes, diagnostic sets and sterilizers, dissecting and dressing forceps among others.

It is both appalling and shameful that a professor, a supposed custodian of truth and intellectual integrity, would lend his voice to such a baseless and malicious publication signed off by a faceless group. Instead of using his esteemed position to advocate for the collective development of the Ndokwa people, he has chosen to align with misinformation and falsehoods, a shameful way to start the year, driven by personal gain and self-interest.
Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko is tirelessly fighting for the realization of a long-overdue step-down power project that will bring light and development to the Ndokwa region. This project, delayed for over two decades, represents a beacon of hope for our people. Instead of rallying behind this transformative effort, the professor has shamefully opted to undermine it with false narratives, all in a bid to please his benefactors and secure personal satisfaction.
The allegation that Senator Nwoko is attempting to relocate the substation project to his “native axis” is a fabrication devoid of any evidence. It is nothing more than an attempt to politicize a developmental initiative that holds immense promise for the Ndokwa people. Such falsehoods serve only to derail progress and perpetuate the neglect that our region has endured for far too long.
The professor, as well as the faceless group behind this smear campaign, must be ready to substantiate their claims with concrete evidence. Failure to do so will expose them to the legal and reputational consequences of peddling lies and slander. The Ndokwa people deserve progress, not distractions borne out of selfish interests.
Senator Ned Nwoko’s unwavering commitment to ensuring this project’s success is a rare opportunity for the Ndokwa region to gain access to much-needed electricity and economic empowerment. His fight is a fight for all Ndokwa people, and no amount of baseless accusations can derail this noble cause.
We urge the professor to abandon this divisive path and join hands in supporting initiatives that uplift our people. History will not be kind to those who, in their pursuit of personal gain, attempt to sabotage the collective progress of their community.
Signed, Hon. Gloria Okolugbo Director of Communications Office of Distinguished Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko
Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Sir Festus Ahon, Monday, described rumours of defection plans of the Governor to other party as untrue and concocted by some opposition elements in the State.
Ahon in a statement in Asaba, said some elements in the opposition party in the State were threatened by the rising acceptance and bridge-building efforts of the Governor across political divides.
According to him, Governor Oborevwori will continue to collaborate with the government at the centre for the overall benefit of Deltans and the country at large.
He said the Governor had no reason to defect to any other party given his wide acceptance in the PDP and followership by well meaning Deltans and residents, adding that he remained focused on delivering the MORE Agenda to all Deltans as promised during his electioneering campaigns.
He therefore urged Deltans to ignore the rumours making the rounds as it was the handiwork of mischief makers and fifth columnists.
Coach Andy Murray starts work with Novak Djokovic as tennis legends team up for Australian Open.
Andy Murray shocked the tennis world in November last year when he announced he would coach Novak Djokovic in one of the most sensational appointments in the sport’s history.
Three time grand slam champion Murray, 37,who retired from playing in August 2024 after a glittering 19 year career, is part of his long time rival’s coaching set up for the Australian Open.
The two were pictured on the practice court on Tuesday, as Djokovic chases his record extending 11th major down under and 25th overall. The Serbian kicked off his season last week in Brisbane with a defeat by Reilly Opelka.
The 37 year old will find out his first round opponent in Melbourne on Thursday when the draw is made at 14.30 local time.
Murray called time on his 19 year career last summer, with a final doubles run out alongside partner Dan Evans at the Olympic games in Paris. He was serenaded after his final match at Wimbledon, with the LTA announcing that Centre Court at the Queen’s club will be renamed Andy Murray Arena during the ATP and WTA tournaments there from 2025 onwards.
Kazakh star Alexander Bublik took aim at his former foe and accused Murray of grasping at the past with his decision to train Djokovic.
The world No 33 also had words for Rafael Nadal, describing his and Murray’s retirement as a circus. In November,
Nadal, 38,gave a speech and a video montage was played of his career highlights at the Davis Cup finals in Malaga.
As well as this, the Spaniard received personal messages from some greats of the game, including Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic. Djokovic beat Murray in four Australian Open finals, a competition he has won 10 times on his way to 24 grand slam titles.
The world No7 endured a difficult season in 2024,failing to win a major in a calendar year for the first time since 2017,but he did win a long awaited gold medal at the Olympics, which he described as his greatest achievement.
Murray famously twice beat Djokovic in grand slam finals-to lift the US Open in 2012 and Wimbledon in 2013 and succeeded him as world No 1 in 2016. It was Djokovic, though, who would have the edge over Murray in grand slam finals, beating him in Australia in 2011,2013,2015 and then in 2016 as well as the french open in the same year.
Their rivalry dates back to their teenage years, when they attended training camp together and Murray later won the first matchup between them as juniors. In their professional careers, Djokovic boasted a 25-11 lead in their head to head records.
Only a week apart in age, Djokovic and Murray partnered in doubles at the Australian Open, both aged 19,in 2006.Murray had maintained respect for his long time competitor, even posting a tribute to him on social media after he announced his retirement in July.
After it was announced that they would work together this year, the duo each expressed their excitement to not be facing each other on opposite ends of the court./SSU.

Dressed in elegant attire, Senator Nwoko and Regina Daniels gracefully acknowledged the crowd’s admiration, their presence adding a touch of glamour to the ceremonial proceedings. The atmosphere was electric, with cultural performances and colourful displays enhancing the celebratory mood.
Senator Nwoko has consistently utilized his platform to advocate for African integration. He is a fervent proponent of initiatives aimed at unifying the continent, including the promotion of tourism, the advocacy for open borders, the establishment of a common currency, and the adoption of a unified language. These efforts are geared towards creating a more interconnected and prosperous Africa.
In his advocacy, Senator Nwoko emphasizes the importance of easing border restrictions to facilitate free movement across African nations, thereby boosting tourism and economic growth. He also highlights the potential benefits of a unified African currency and a common language in enhancing trade and communication among member states.

*Renews Tantita’s preparedness to partner with NNPCL to raise crude oil production
Chairman of Tantita Security Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), Chief (Dr.) Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, has congratulated the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Mallam Mele Kyari, on his 60th birthday, today, January 8th.
Tompolo, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Dr. Paul Bebenimibo, on Wednesday, noted that Kyari has “remarkably transformed NNPCL to the acknowledgment and admiration of the doubting Thomases .”
The Ibe-Ebidouwei of Ijaw Nation lauded Kyari for his patriotic and nationalistic zeal, stating that “Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari in a sustained strides has succeeded in putting Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth and development in tandem with the development blueprients and economic recovery plans of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as carefully emunciated in the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
The Ijaw leader recalled that the then Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was in comatose before Kyari was drafted in on rescue mission, adding that the sucess stories recorded by the company under his supervision had received widespread accolades by all relevant stakeholders.
Specifically, Tompolo commended Mele Kyari for ensuring that two of the nation’s refineries in Warri and Port-Harcourt were brought back to life.
“This has led to the unlocking of a total refining capacity of 117,000 barrels per day (bpd) with the operational take-off of both the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries in November and December 2024, respectively.
“The Port Harcourt refinery, which resumed production on November 26, 2024, after extensive rehabilitation, currently operates at 70 per cent, thus accounting for 42,000 barrels per day capacity while the Warri refinery restarted operations on Monday, December 30, 2024, at 60 per cent capacity, translating to 75,000 barrels per day.”
“This revival is expected to enhance Nigeria’s energy security and reduce reliance on imported refined products, marking a significant step in the country’s refining sector transformation,” Tompolo said in the congratulatory message issued by Bebenimibo.
Similarly, Tompolo, whose company, TSSNL, is the main actor in the war against crude oil theft and other sharp practices associated with petroleum products in the Niger Delta, appreciated the dexterity, focus, commitment and encouragement of Mele Kyari in the battle to rescue the nation’s economic mainstay from the grip of the saboteurs.
“When the production of crude oil was threatened, you responded with unwavering resolve and developed right security architecture, which culminated in the involvement of non-state actors, including TANTITA, in the task of policing oil pipelines and tackle crude oil theft and establishment of the state-of-art command and control centre.”
“These bold collaborative efforts curbed crude oil theft and sabotage.”
“It’s to your credit that you evolved, restructured from the dysfunctional NNPCL to a profit-making model, using sanity and efficiency as the watchwords towards steady increase and consequential unimaginable quantum leap in the production of crude oil from the abysmal 600,000ppd to 1.8mbpd.”
“The pointers that the crude oil production is itching towards 2mbpd is the hallmark of your innovative driven-culture.”
“Sir, we celebrate and owe President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and your esteemed self, a load of gratitude for the production level we attained today,” Tompolo further eulogied the virtues of Mele Kyari.
While wishing Mele Kyari a long life in sustained robust health in the task of nation building, Tompolo expressed the consistent and unbreakable collaboration of Tantita with other state and non-actors in the substance of the upward crude oil production trend.
“I, Chief (Dr.) Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, on behalf of the management and staff of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) congratulates the indefatigable GCEO of NNPCL, Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari, on his glorious 60th birthday, today, January 8th, 2025.”
“As we pray the Almighty Allah to continue to grant you sound health, wisdom and strength in the task of nation building, TANTITA seizes this medium to renew its loyalty and commitment to the onerous tasks of sustaining the milestones being recorded under watch.
Following the horrific killing of ten people, including nine security personnel, in Ihiala, Anambra State, the traditional ruler, Igwe Thomas Obidiegwu, has declared a four-day period of mourning and prayer.
The victims, among them community leader Chief Donatus Onuchukwu, were attacked at a family home during preparations for a funeral.
The mourning notice was contained in a statement signed and made available to newsman in Awka on Tuesday by the Palace Secretary, Barrister Emmanuel Mkpo.
According to Mkpo, the mourning period began on Monday, January 6th, and will end on Thursday, January 9th, 2025.
The statement explained that during the mourning period, a minute of silence would be observed at all public events and gatherings in Ihiala as a tribute to those who lost their lives in the heinous attack.
Additionally, the statement noted that a comprehensive profiling of residents in all villages of Ihiala would be conducted to ensure proper identification of residents and promote heightened vigilance within the community as part of measures to address security concerns.
“Igwe Obidiegwu commended the prompt and swift actions taken by the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and his declaration of a state of emergency on the challenges of insecurity in Ihiala town. He also pledged full support for all initiatives aimed at restoring peace and security in the community,” it stated.
The statement further assured that the people of Ihiala stand united and will continue to support the Governor’s efforts to ensure that justice is served while fostering long-term peace and safety in the town.
The Ihekamba Onuchukwu family of Umuike Ubahuekwem, Ihiala, has long been recognized for their significant contributions to the development of the Ihiala community, the statement added.
It would be recalled that the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, announced a N10 million bounty for information leading to the capture of each of the gunmen responsible for an attack during a burial ceremony in Ihiala, in Ihiala local government area of the State, last Monday.
Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, was among dignitaries who witnessed the inauguration of John Dramani Mahama as President of the Republic of Ghana, on Tuesday, January 7, in the country’s capital city, Accra.
Responding to journalists at the event, Senator Nwoko praised the smooth transition of power, describing it as a lesson for the rest of West Africa, particularly Nigeria.
“It’s something we have to imbibe,” Senator Nwoko said. “When you lose, you accept the results. That’s the discipline we need to grow our democracy. Elections shouldn’t be a do-or-die affair. When there is a free and fair election, people should accept the outcome.”
The Senator lamented the tendency of some politicians to challenge election results not out of genuine grievance, but to manipulate the judicial process.
“The reason many go to court after they lose is because they believe they can influence the process—confuse or even induce the system. But if we emulate what is happening here in Ghana and in places like America, we can cultivate a culture of free and fair elections,” he explained.
Senator Nwoko stressed that patriotic contestants who prioritize the nation above personal or party interests are critical for strengthening democracy. “It’s not about the individual or the party; it’s about the nation. That mindset is what we need to adopt,” he added.
Expressing admiration for Ghana’s democratic progress, Senator Nwoko congratulated the people and leadership of the country.
“I wholeheartedly congratulate them. That’s why I’m here with my family—to show support and solidarity. What they have done is remarkable, and we on the other side of West Africa must emulate it. Ghana may be the younger brother, but they’ve shown us what’s possible,” he said.
The town hall in Idumuje-Ugboko, Aniocha north local government area of Delta State, was packed to capacity. Residents, young and old, had gathered to honor a man whose life had been dedicated to their welfare by Senator Ned Nwoko, the senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly (NASS).
As people stepped forward to share their testimonies, it became clear that Senator Nwoko’s legacy was etched not in the grandeur of political speeches, but in the lives he had touched.
The first to speak was Mrs. Ngozi Eze, a widow and farmer. “Before Senator Nwoko, we struggled to farm because our roads were terrible.
“Transporting cassava and yams to the market was almost impossible. Then he came, and the roads were fixed.
“Today, I can feed my children and send them to school. He gave us hope when we had none.”
Cheers erupted from the crowd as Mrs. Eze, wiped tears from her eyes. It was stories like hers that showcased the essence of Senator Nwoko’s leadership, a commitment to practical solutions for everyday problems.
Next was a young graduate, who identified himself simply as Chike. “I was one of the beneficiaries of Senator Nwoko’s scholarship programme” he began, holding up his degree certificate.
“I grew up in a small village where education seemed like an impossible dream. But through his Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation, I got the chance to study engineering at the University of Lagos.
“Today, I work with an international company, and it’s all because of him. He didn’t just pay my school fees; he believed in my future.”
Senator Nwoko’s investments in education were among his most celebrated achievements.
Thousands of students across the State and beyond had benefited from his scholarships and mentorship programmes.
He firmly believed that education was the key to breaking the cycle of poverty and unlocking potential.
Dr. Tunde Bello, a public health expert, shared another moving testimony.
“When Senator Nwoko launched his malaria eradication campaign, many dismissed it as overly ambitious. But today, countless lives have been saved because of his initiatives.
“From distributing Mosquito treated nets to funding groundbreaking research for a malaria vaccine, he showed us what it means to care for humanity.”
The malaria project had reached remote villages, providing resources to families who previously had no access to healthcare. For many, it wasn’t just a campaign; it was a lifeline.
The testimonies continued. Youth leaders praised his unwavering support for sports and innovation through STARS University.
Market women thanked him for microloans that boosted their businesses.
Environmental activists highlighted his tree-planting initiatives, which had transformed barren lands into lush green spaces.
Perhaps the most poignant moment came when a young girl, no older than 10, stepped forward.
“My daddy said Senator Nwoko built the school I go to,” she said shyly, clutching a drawing. “I drew this for him because he gave me a place to learn.”
The room fell silent as she handed her artwork, a simple sketch of a classroom, to one of Senator Nwoko’s aides. Her innocence and gratitude spoke volumes.
In every corner of the State, and across Nigeria, the testimonies about Senator Nwoko echoed the same truth: he is a leader who put people first.
His legacy wasn’t just in policies but in the countless lives he had transformed.
To those who knew him, he wasn’t just a senator; he was a beacon of hope and a symbol of what true leadership should be.
In 2019 and 2020 respectively, former governor of the State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, on Senator Nwoko’s birthday, described the former member of the House of Representatives as a “committed patriot” whose love for his state and country was commendable and worthy of emulation.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, published by Ndokwa Reporters on December 23, 2019, and Vanguard Newspaper December 23, 2020, the governor thanked Nwoko, who represented Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency from 1999 to 2003 for his contributions to the growth and development of Delta and his Idumuje-Ugboko community in Aniocha North Local Government Area.
“Prince Ned Nwoko has continued to blaze the trail by providing and offering leadership at various strata of the society and I urge you to continue to serve your people well without relenting.
“You have created several jobs and provided many opportunities for our people to utilize their potential and earn a decent means of livelihood through your investments and philanthropy.
“Over the years, you have maintained a large, devoted and loyal followership and bestrode Delta’s political scene like a colossus due to your famed generosity and large-heartedness.
“You have exhibited the traits of a man who is committed to doing everything possible to make life better for your people and not like those thinking of what they can get from the people.
“You have consistently impacted positively on the lives of people irrespective of tribe, religion, social status or political affiliation through your entrepreneurial drive.
“Your Malaria Eradication Project in Africa and the establishment of Stars University, Idumuje-Ugboko, are some of your entrepreneurial contributions to job and wealth creation for Deltans and Nigerians.
“You have continued to blaze the trail by providing and offering leadership at various strata of the society and I urge you to continue to serve your people well without relenting.
“You have created several jobs and provided many opportunities for our people to utilize their potential and earn a decent means of livelihood through your investments and philanthropy.
“Through your generosity and large-heartedness, you have continued to maintain a large, devoted and loyal followership that bestrode the entire Delta and Nigeria,” he said.
Kenneth Orusi is, the Publisher and Editor-in-chief of The Story and Chairman, ICC, Delta NUJ.
In his inaugural address on May 29, 2023, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State re-established the finest definition of governance. In his words, it is “about improving the quality of life of our people, about building bridges of social cohesion, about giving our people the hope of a better tomorrow, and about accelerated development. And it demands creative thinking, proactive action, and exemplary leadership.”
The remarkable phrases in the quote, for me, are “building bridges of social cohesion” and “exemplary leadership,” without which the other objectives cannot be attained.
On this, he has repeatedly reiterated that he is Governor for all Deltans, not just for his political party, the PDP, and he has demonstrated that in, not only his fair distribution and commitment to the completion of multi-sector projects across all the senatorial districts, federal constituencies, local governments and ethnic nationalities, but also in his social and political engagements across all segments of the citizenry.
When our late respected elder statesman, former Labour leader, and chieftain of the APC, Chief Frank Kokori, took ill, he was among the first to visit him at the hospital to offer support.
Educating the public on that occasion, he said: “I know people will think that because he is an APC chieftain I won’t be here. Deltans voted for me as Governor, it is not a party matter now, because we have finished the election and all of us are one. Whether he is APC or not, I am Governor for all Deltans, so I am here as governor for all, not for any party.”
Acknowledging and pleased by the gesture, Chief Kokori said: “I never knew Governor Oborevwori is a good man, because immediately he heard about my condition, he came to see me. I am so happy that he is not a mean fellow. He is a real Governor, a man who has such a heart is a good man. I am happy with him and have also prayed for him.”
Oborevwori also took time off to attend the thanksgiving service of Chief Stella Okotete, former National Woman Leader of the APC, where he also reiterated his broad-mindedness, which is in consonance with the virtues of good governance.
“I do not segregate. I want all of us to be united with the interest of developing Delta State. The most important thing is to do what you should be remembered for while in office.”
It was in the same spirit that he invited various leaders of the opposition party to the anniversary of his first year in office, a mindset for which Distinguished Senator Joel Onowakpo (APC), Delta South, extolled him.
“The Governor of Delta State is the Governor to everyone in Delta State and I do not think he is Governor to only those who are PDP. His Excellency extending invitation to all the Senators from Delta State, irrespective of their political leaning, is the smartest and wisest thing that he has done. I want to say that His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori should be commended for being broad-minded like our President. I want to encourage him to continue to be broad-minded and also be inclusive, (and) I want to encourage everyone to move away from primitive politics. This country needs cross-fertilization of ideas to have rapid development. We can be in different parties but with one common goal – the empowerment of our people and the development of our environment.”
Perhaps the most revealing testament came from President Bola Tinubu, who, at the wedding of Oborevwori’s son, acknowledged that since he came into office, he has been a Governor for all the people of the state.
Describing him as Pan Deltan, detribalised Governor and a bridge builder, he said if all leaders shun political and religious inclinations, like Oborevwori does, Nigeria would be a better place for all citizens to fulfill their God-given destinies.
These testaments and glowing tributes to Oborevwori have continued to haunt opposition elements in Delta State as they look, against all reality, reason and hope, towards 2027.
In their desperate fear of the wide commendations on Oborevwori, they went to town with propaganda that the Governor may be planning to defect to the APC, pointing to his recent call for citizens to pray for and support the ongoing national reforms by the Federal Government, explaining that if President Tinubu fails, then the states would also fail.
Their confusion and panic can only be because they do not understand the great leadership qualities being displayed by Oborevwori, and cannot draw the line between governance and politics.
It needs no explaining that the policies and reforms of the Federal Government affect all states of the federation, and responsible leadership demands collaboration in the overall interest of the nation. The opposite would only be tantamount to wishing oneself and nation evil, and in self-immolation.
They further tried to reinforce their lies by suggesting that Governor Oborevwori was recently in Ghana in wait to plead with President Tinubu to approve his defection, whereas in fact, he accompanied the President, alongside Governors Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau, Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Agbu Kefas of Taraba some ministers and other top government officials, as part of the Nigerian delegation to the inauguration of the new President of that country.
We know that they are not oblivious of such diplomatic practice which provides leverage for bilateral relations, they only wish that Oborevwori does not command such relevance in the national scheme.
That is why they have also been haunted by the recent acclamation of Oborevwori by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, Abudulrzaq Abdulrahman, during their New Year visit to the President, at which he described the infrastructure building projects under Oborevwori as “unimaginable.”
It is truly unimaginable seeing an administration with 513 roads, drainage and stormwater channel projects going on simultaneously across urban and rural areas, the magnitude and pace of work on the Warri/Effurun flyover bridges project, the commitment on the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, the resolve on the Trans Warri Ode-Itsekiri 26km project with 19 bridges in which 15 have been completed, the determination with which the Beneku Bridge in Ndokwa East has been pursued as well as the Orere-Ewu Bridge and many more projects across all sectors.
It was for this reason, for instance, that the Nigeria Governors Forum and the Federal Ministry of Health awarded the Bill and Melinda Gates Awards for Primary Health Care Development to Delta State, an award that the state has never been mentioned in any category, talk less of winning, until the Oborevwori administration.
Sadly for the elements, despite their shameful denial of the obvious and plausible development index in the administration of Governor Oborevwori, which pitifully instills great fear in them ahead of 2027, and their attempt to confuse and decisive the public with baseless and illogical propaganda, there is nothing they can do to stop the good works of Sheriff nor the acknowledgment by both the President, his fellow Governors who do regular peer review and are aware of developments in their counterpart states, and most importantly, the Delta public for whom Oborevwori is working and they are seeing it.
In 2027, these misguidedly overzealous elements will weep again, and we would only say to them: “Weep not, little peeps, Sheriff is just too much.”

The Director General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, Chief Patrick Ukah, disclosed this during inspection of several ongoing road construction projects within the Capital Territory.
During his visit to the projects in Oshimili South and Oshimili North Local Government Areas, Ukah expressed satisfaction with the progress and contractors’ adherence to the project schedules.
He emphasized that the Oborevwori administration was leveraging the dry season to accelerate the construction and rehabilitation of roads and drainage systems across the Capital Territory.
Ukah noted that many road projects under inspection were awarded in 2023 and are expected to be completed before the end of Oborevwori’s first term.
The inspection began with the 1.468-kilometer flood control project at Ogbeilo/Ugbomanta Street, which includes a discharge drain extending through Ogbogonogo Market to Otuogwu Bay.

In a blaze of unparalleled excellence, Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North in the National Assembly has been ranked among Senators with the highest legislative impact at the National Assembly.
A special report released by the Senate leadership listed Senator Nwoko as one of the Senators with the most bills among the 109 Senators.
The report which is subtitled a “Summary of the Senate Amendment Bills under the 10th Senate of the National Assembly” showed that Senator Nwoko initiated 5 bills out of about 30 bills specially listed for deliberation by the Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution.
His bill on Anioma state creation was the only one of such bill listed for consideration, a testament of the seriousness attached to the draft legislation.
Bills on Diaspora voting, Parliamentary System of Government, Local Government Autonomy and life- saving medical aid on Emergency also featured as dominant themes in the constitution review.
Senator Nwoko is credited with a record number of 27 bills and 20 motions on the floor of the Senate, garnered since his inauguration on June 13, 2023, making him one of the most active Senators in the red chambers.
Senator Nwoko had also distinguished himself as a vocal lawmaker with trenchant advocacy on critical national issues.
He had been widely quoted with penetrating insights on security, electricity, water, oil theft, environmental degradation, gas flaring, revamping of the economy, social welfare for vulnerable Nigerians and entrepreneurship for sustainable growth.
To fast track development in Delta North, he recently initiated key projects across the three federal constituencies of Ika, Aniocha/Oshimili , Ndokwa/Ukwuani.
They included Sports facility in Issele-Uku, solar-powered borehole projects in Umunede and Idumuje-Ugboko, solar street light projects in Idumuje-Unor Idumuje-Ugboko, Onicha Ugbo, Asaba and Kwale.
Also undertaken by Senator Nwoko were construction of a 2 km road project and renovation of police station at Idumuje-Ugboko as well as intervention on the rehabilitation of failed sections of Benin-Asaba expressway with the Ezenei, Okwe, Ubulu – Okoti and Igbodo axis completed.
Over 2,000 persons had benefited from the Senator’s skill acquisition and empowerment programmes dedicated to boosting gainful employment, wealth creation and health care among the people.
Last year, Senator Nwoko generally seen as detribalized Deltan, championed the release of the traditional ruler of Ewu kingdom HRM Ovie Clement Ikolo, among others in Ughelli South local government area, who was detained over the bloody Okuama mayhem of March 14, 2024.
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has extended his heart-felt condolences to the families of victims of Sunday’s fire incident caused by a fallen diesel tanker in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
The diesel tanker reportedly suffered a brake failure, and fell at a traffic light junction and exploded into a ball of fire that burnt four persons to death.
Three other persons suffered various degrees of injury in the explosion and the resultant inferno.
In commiserating with the Ika South Local Government and people of the area on the tragedy, which resulted in the loss of lives and property, the Governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, described the fire incident as horrifying and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and fortitude to those bereaved in the unfortunate incident.
Governor Oborevwori directed the State Ministry of Health, the State Emergency Management Agency and other relevant authorities to expedite action by providing the much-needed immediate support to all victims of the incident.
The Governor commended the Fire Service, the good people of Ika South Local Government and security agencies who rallied round to put out the inferno and their dedication to assisting those affected by the fire incident.
As the dust settles from the legislative pause necessitated by the appropriation bill and the festive season, it is imperative to refocus public attention on a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s legislative journey, the September 2024 retreat of the Senate Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution.
This retreat marked a significant leap forward in addressing long-standing constitutional ambiguities and advancing democratic ideals. It underscored the Senate’s commitment to legislative continuity by revisiting critical “legacy bills” inherited from the 9th Assembly while laying the groundwork for fresh constitutional amendments that resonate with Nigeria’s evolving realities.
After a comprehensive review of memoranda submitted by the Nigerian public, 37 bills were selected by consultants for further consideration. Leading the pack with the highest number of bills were Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko and Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, with the highest number of bills on the agenda.
Senator Nwoko’s bill , numbering 5, selected contributions, are particularly notable for their strategic and transformative potential. This includes his leading bill advocating for the amendment of the constitution to create Anioma State. This was preceded by considerable lobbying of his colleagues and extensive consultations, culminating in the Anioma State Summit held in Asaba in August 2024. His efforts reflect a dedication to addressing the aspirations of his constituents while championing broader national progress.
As we usher in a new year, the anticipation builds for the next phase of this historic process: the commencement of public hearings. These hearings will provide an essential platform for Nigerians to actively engage with and shape the legislative framework that defines our collective future.
This year holds the promise of turning these deliberations into actionable reforms, bringing us closer to a constitution that truly reflects the aspirations and dynamism of the Nigerian people. It is our collective duty to sustain the momentum and ensure that these constitutional amendments translate into transformative governance.
Hon Gloria Okolugbo Director Communications Office of the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial Zone Distinguished Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko
The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, has expressed deep sympathy with the families, businesses, and communities affected by the devastating petrol tanker explosion in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The tragic incident, which occurred on Sunday along the Old Asaba-Lagos road, resulted in the loss of five lives, the destruction of several buildings—including an Anglican Church—and extensive damage to vehicles and businesses, including First Bank and Access Bank.
Speaking on the incident, Senator Nwoko described the loss of lives and livelihoods as a heavy blow, especially to the people of Delta North. “This is a tragic event that has left families grieving and businesses shattered. My thoughts are with all those affected by this unfortunate disaster,” he said.
He reiterated the urgent need for stricter regulations governing the movement of heavy-duty vehicles, particularly those transporting hazardous materials. He called for concerted efforts to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Recall that in May 2024, Senator Nwoko proposed a motion titled, “Compelling Need to Enforce Nationwide Ban on Movement of Heavy-Duty Vehicles in Daytime.”
He urged the Federal Ministry of Transportation to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to enforce a nationwide ban on daytime movement of heavy-duty vehicles.
He proposed that such vehicles should only operate between the hours of 12 midnight and 6 am to reduce the risks of accidents during peak traffic hours.
The Senator also urged the Federal Ministries of Works and Housing, Transportation, and the FRSC to work together to establish service stations near high-traffic border towns.
These service stations, he explained, would serve as resting areas for tankers and heavy-duty vehicles before they embark on their journeys at midnight, minimizing congestion and the potential for accidents.
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA have arrested a wanted drug kingpin and Lagos socialite, 61-year-old Alhaja Aishat Ajoke Elediye on new year day in her mansion at Okota area of Lagos following the interception of a truckload of illicit drug consignment from her staff same day.
Alhaji Ajoke known in the drug underworld and social circle as “Iya Ruka”, has her true identity shrouded in mystery for years while she remained on the wanted list of NDLEA for leading one of the drug cartels operating from Mushin area of Lagos. The lid was however blown off her invincibility last Wednesday when NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence intercepted a white Izuzu truck carrying 44 jumbo sacks containing 1,540 kilogrammes of imported cannabis and driven by one of her staff, 41-year-old Abideen Adio.
The operatives subsequently stormed her hideout at 33 Adebayo Oyewole street, off Ago Palace way, Okota, where she was arrested.
According to the spokesman of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi in a statement on Sunday, on the surface, Alhaja Ajoke is a businesswoman who imports fabrics and shoes from China but beneath is a massive illicit drug trade. She is also recognized as the Iyalaje of Blessing Sisters, an influential club of society women in Lagos.
Babafemi said in another major operation, NDLEA officers on Friday 27th December 2024 arrested a US-trained Hollywood and Nollywood filmmaker, Emeka Mbadiwe, who is also a motivational speaker at his Lekki Hotel room following the arrest of his partner, Uzoekwe Ugochukwu, earlier same day at a warehouse in Ajao estate Ikeja, where he was sent by Mbadiwe to collect a shipment of 33 parcels of Loud, a strong strain of cannabis weighing 17.3 kilogrammes, which arrived the Import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on 24th December 2024 from the United States on a Delta Airline flight, concealed in large wooden boxes.
In Kwara state, a fresh graduate Khadijat Abdulraheem, 24, and a 20-year-old student of the University of Ilorin, Ayomide Morakinyo were on Sunday 29th December 2024 arrested by NDLEA operatives at Tanke-University of Ilorin road, Oke Odo, Ilorin based on credible intelligence that they were producing and selling drug laced cupcakes to students in the community. When their apartment was searched, 42 pieces of drugged cakes were recovered from them.
Babafemi also said an ex-convict, Sodade Eniola, who was arrested by operatives of the Tincan Command of NDLEA in June, 2024, for drug trafficking, prosecuted and sentenced to four years in prison has been arrested again by officers of the MMIA Strategic Command of the agency for passport racketeering. Earlier, when he was convicted by a Federal High Court in Lagos on 14th June 2024, the trial judge gave him an option of paying N750,000 fine, which he paid and was let go.
The spokesman said however, in series of operations in December 2024, NDLEA operatives at the export shed of the Lagos airport intercepted no fewer than 52 passports of different countries from shipments going to Canada, Russia, and other countries concealed in shoe soles and food items. Further investigations led to the arrest of four members of three syndicates involved in the racket.
The arrested suspects include: Sodade Eniola; Ayinde Awwal; Salaudeen Ayode; and Sheriff Bamigbade. Both the exhibits and the suspects were last Monday handed over to the Zonal Command of the Nigerian Immigration Service in Lagos for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Babafemi said not less than 316, 800 bottles of codeine-based syrup were recovered from two containers by NDLEA officers at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne Rivers state during a joint examination of the shipments with men of Nigeria Customs and other security agencies last Tuesday. He disclosed that the seizure followed credible intelligence processed by the Port Harcourt Port Command of the agency.
In Kano, NDLEA operatives last Tuesday 31st December 2024 raided Mafarki, Dan Dishe area of Dala LG where they recovered 149,090 pills of tramadol and exol-5 from a local dealer, 45-year-old Ismail Muhammad.
Babafemi said with the same vigour, commands and formations of the agency across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitization activities to schools, worship centres, work places and communities among others in the past week.
Meanwhile while commending the officers and men of MMIA, Lagos, Kano, PHPC and Kwara Commands of the agency for the arrests and seizures, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) stated that their operational successes and those of their compatriots across the country especially their balanced approach to drug supply reduction and drug demand reduction efforts are well appreciated.
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has announced that the state government will subsidise the cost of petrol to farmers in communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency.
Zulum made the announcement on Friday evening in Bama town when he flagged off the distribution of farm inputs to over 5,000 farmers hitherto displaced by Boko Haram insurgents.
The governor said a litre of petrol sold between N1,000 and N1,200 in Maiduguri will be subsidised to the farmers for N600, noting that this is aimed at alleviating the financial burdens faced by farmers in communities that have suffered economic and infrastructural destruction due to years of conflict.
Zulum emphasised that a similar initiative implemented in Damasak, Mobar Local Government Area, last year has significantly increased food production and improved livelihoods.
He said: “One of the major challenges that are facing the farming communities here as regards irrigation farming is the increasing cost of fuel, as a result, I want to announce to the general public that government will procure petroleum products and sell to the farmers at a subsided rate, a litre of petrol is being sold in Maiduguri at the cost of about N1,200 but in’shAllah, henceforth for irrigation farmers this season a litre of petrol will be sold at the rate of N600.”
The governor also said: “The Commissioner for Agriculture will work with the Brigade Commander to ensure the delivery of the petroleum products to farmers in Bama town as soon as possible.”
In addition to the petrol subsidy, Zulum distributed farm inputs, including 2000 bags of blended NPK fertiliser, 1000 units of water pumps, and 620 units of gasoline pumps.
Other materials include 380 units of solar water pumps, 1000 units of sprayers, 800 rolls of 2-inch flexible hose, and 1000 litres of pesticides and seeds, among other items.
He said his administration has constructed over 100 tube wells for use by irrigation farmers while also announcing the approval for the construction of an additional 250.
Meanwhile, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum has also visited Darajama and Goniri villages under Bama Local Government to assess the ongoing reconstruction work.
Zulum expressed satisfaction with the quality of the project but also reiterated that his administration will not allow anyone to sabotage its resettlement drive.
The governor expressed gratitude to the federal government for the tremendous support of his administration’s reconstruction and resettlement of communities affected by insurgency.
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has approved N8 billion for the payment of the backlog of liabilities in pensions and gratuities for retired primary school teachers and other civil servants in the state, promising that clear all the backlog of pensions and gratuities before leaving office in 2027
The N8 billion will clear liabilities accrued from 2019 to 2021.
Zulum announced the approval on Wednesday at the council chamber of the government house in Maiduguri.
The governor had released N3 billion in June and September, 2019, to clear gratuities of 1,684 retirees that left the civil service between 2013 and 2019 and disbursed over N12 billion in 2020 for retirees that left both the state and local government civil service between 2013 and 2017.
Zulum said: “Since I took over in 2019 to date, we have paid about 25 billion naira for the settlement of gratuities for those that have worked with local and state governments.”
Meanwhile, he has assured that his administration will settle all the backlog of gratuities and pensions before the end of his tenure in 2027.
He said: “Insh’Allah, I will clear all the backlog of gratuities before I leave office in 2027.”
Senator Nwoko envisions Anioma nation that’s self-sufficient, prosperous, globally recognized
Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North in the National Assembly stands as a remarkable figure in the political landscape of Nigeria.
A distinguished lawyer, accomplished businessman, and former member of the House of Representatives, Senator Nwoko is presently advocating for the development of Anioma nation, the region he represents at the Senate. One of his biggest pursuits for the Anioma people is the creation of Anioma state.
His dedication to the creation of Anioma state and upliftment of the Anioma people is evident in his legislative achievements, social initiatives, and commitment to sustainable development. Every move he makes in the senate revolves around the development of the Anioma people.
However, like many regions in Nigeria, the Anioma region faces challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, limited access to education, and healthcare deficits.
As a senator, he has consistently used his connection and contacts to push for increased federal investment in the region, emphasizing the need for better road networks, improved educational institutions, and healthcare facilities.
His advocacy extends beyond politics into philanthropy, where his interventions have had tangible impacts. Many of his duties interventions are expected to come to fruition in this 2025.
One of Nwoko’s most notable contributions to Anioma and Nigeria is his philanthropic work. Through the Prince Ned Nwoko Foundation, he has spearheaded several initiatives aimed at alleviating poverty, improving education, and enhancing healthcare.
His foundation has provided scholarships to indigent students in the region, empowering them with the education, a necessary weapon to achieve their dreams. This investment in human capital aligns with his belief that the Anioma nation’s future rests on its youth.
Senator Nwoko’s commitment to public health is also commendable. He has been a prominent advocate for malaria eradication in Nigeria and across the Africa continent.
His initiative, the Ned Nwoko Malaria Eradication Project, aims to eliminate malaria through vaccine research, environmental sanitation, and public awareness campaigns.
This project underscores his dedication to solving one of Africa’s most persistent healthcare challenges. And he is on his way to winning the war.
In addition to his political and philanthropic efforts, Senator Nwoko is a strong proponent of preserving and promoting Anioma’s cultural heritage.
He has invested in cultural festivals, arts, and traditional institutions, recognizing their role in fostering unity and pride among Anioma people.
His efforts to promote Anioma’s identity have contributed to a renewed sense of belonging and cultural pride among the people.
Senator Nwoko envisions an Anioma nation that is self-sufficient, prosperous, and globally recognized. He has advocated for the diversification of the region’s economy through agriculture, tourism, and industrialization.
His tourism projects, including the proposed establishment of a world-class tourism destination in Delta State, are designed to create jobs, attract investment, and showcase Anioma’s rich cultural and natural resources.
As a visionary leader, Nwoko understands the importance of sustainable development. He has called for environmentally friendly practices and policies that protect the Anioma region’s unique biodiversity.
His advocacy for clean energy and sustainable agricultural practices is a testament to his forward-thinking approach. His push for this is self-evidence.
Senator Nwoko embodies the essence of a modern leader—dedicated, visionary, and deeply rooted in his cultural heritage. His advocacy for the Anioma nation transcends rhetoric, manifesting in tangible actions that have impacted countless lives.
Whether through his legislative efforts, philanthropic initiatives, or cultural preservation projects, Nwoko continues to set an example of leadership that prioritizes the well-being of the people.
As the Anioma nation looks to the future, Senator Nwoko remains a beacon of hope, inspiring a new generation to embrace their identity, harness their potential, and strive for collective progress. His enduring legacy is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the Anioma cause.
Kenneth Orusi, is the Publisher and Editor-in-chief of The Story and Chairman, ICC, Delta NUJ
Dr. Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza,, Commissioner for Information, Delta State, has in his New Year goodwill message on behalf of the Delta State, reaffirmed that GOVERNOR OBOREVWORI’S DEVELOPMENTAL STRIDES as AN OPEN BOOK THAT ALL DELTANS CAN SEE.
The message reads:
“Dear Deltans,
“On New Year’s Day, I issued a New Year goodwill message on behalf of the Delta State Government using this same medium, with the title: 2025: EXPECT MORE DEMOCRACY DIVIDENDS, DELTA STATE GOVT. ASSURES DELTANS.
“In that Press Statement, I deliberately refrained from cataloging the already well-known achievements of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, dwelling instead on the need for Deltans to expect more from the M.O.R.E Agenda of this administration in 2025.
“It is therefore disheartening for the APC Publicity Secretary in Delta State, Valentine Onojeghuo, to convert the innocuous New Year message of the Delta State Government into their usual political refrain by giving vent to an obvious lie that there is nothing more to expect from the M.O.R.E Agenda of the Oborevwori’s administration, this New Year. I would have left the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP to respond to him as party to party, but since Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo specifically mentioned my name, hence this response.
“If the APC Publicity Secretary is honest enough to admit that the Warri/Effurun Flyover bridges are tangible achievements of the Oborevwori’s administration, he should have extended this honesty to other visible projects that the Oborevwori’s administration has embarked upon in less than two years since it came into office. Even in the same Warri axis, there are massive Storm Water Drainage projects going on to prevent flooding in the Warri/Effurun metropolis. Ughelli town is having a facelift, with attention being given to township roads in Ughelli, and the same applies to Sapele and the construction of Olomoro-Igbide road, to mention but a few.
“The Oborevwori administration is gearing up to finish the 139-kilometre Asaba-Ughelli expressway with particular emphasis on the multi-million naira Obo bridge in Ogwashi Uku.
“The Delta State Government is also focusing on the completion of the Kwale- Beneku bridge and the construction of the Ayakoromo bridge which is 612 metres across the Forcados River. Other ongoing projects are the Orere-Ewu Bridge, the Trans-Warri Ode Itsekiri bridges and roads, including some roads in Ika North East and Ika South Local Government Areas.
“The Oborevwori administration has already completed and commissioned Phase 1 of the Emevor-Orogun road project and, commenced Phase 2, completed and commissioned the Ibusa/Okpanam bypass project. Already commissioned also is the iconic High Court complex, Asaba, commissioned by none other than the former President of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
“Presently, the administration has embarked on about 513 road projects of over 1,300 kilometres and 950 kilometres of drainage projects simultaneously, under construction.
“These also include Federal Roads, which the Governor has repeatedly assured he would work on for the benefit of the people, with or without the possibility of a refund and except where there are existing contractual encumbrances.
“The Publicity Secretary of the APC was also economical with the facts when he mischievously mentioned that the Oborevwori administration had earmarked only the sum of N1 billion for infrastructural projects in each of the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State.
“In actual fact, the administration devised a Special Budgetary Strategy with the provision of a dedicated allocation of N2b in the 2025 budget, to each Local Government Area for roads.
“The State government has also devoted 60% of the 2025 budget to Capital Expenditure, one of the highest ratios presently of any State budget in the country.
“In the area of Health, which the Publicity Secretary of the APC claimed nothing is being done, we need to inform him that the outstanding achievements of the administration in the health sector, include the ongoing renovation, upgrade and re-equipment of about 150 Primary Health Care Centres and 64 General Hospitals. The growth of the State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme to currently over 2 million enrollees is another impressive landmark in the sector.
“Others include the addition of Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Southern Delta University, Ozoro (formerly Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro), with a new campus opened at Orerokpe, the establishment of the School of Medical and Health Technology, Ovrode, the provision of various critical CTU facilities at the University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, and Specialist Hospitals in the State, and the sustenance and improvement of the Mother and Under-5 Children Free Treatment Programme.
“Only recently, Delta State won $400,000 Bill and Melinda Gates PHC award for outstanding performance in Primary Health Care Management.
“Governor Oborevwori, as a matter of critical importance, is indeed overhauling the entire health system in Delta State in line with his M.O.R.E Agenda and the results will be manifestly unveiled and appreciated as 2025 unfolds.
“Towards creating an enabling and conducive learning environment in tertiary institutions, several projects have commenced and some commissioned at the Southern Delta University, Ozoro (formerly University of Science and Technology, Ozoro); University of Delta, Agbor; Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba and the Southern Delta University [Orerokpe campus]. These projects include Faculty Buildings, Lecture Theaters, roads, and Lecture Hall at the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, among others.
“The administration has also disbursed a total of N674 million as bursary payments to over 30,000 students of Delta State origin studying in tertiary institutions across the country. This is to help ease the financial burden on students and promoting access to education. Also, the administration has given financial assistance to Deltans in the Nigerian Law Schools. In addition, it has also paid the sum of N3.55bn as counterpart funding for the 2024 Universal Basic Education [UBE] Programme.
“The development strides of the Oborevwori administration is not only about roads and bridges. There has been a high premium on social investments with the expansion of the beneficiaries of the D-CARES programme from 36,000 to over 250,000 in various result areas, in less than two years.
“This is in addition to other human capital development programmes like the MORE Grant Scheme, MORE Biz-Up, WESAP (Women Empowerment Skill Acquisition Programme) which has so far empowered 311 beneficiaries, with 220 women and 91 persons with Disabilities through the Office of the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs.
“Of course it is only logical to expect that more persons will be empowered in 2025 and Deltans will surely be positively impacted by these human capital and social security programmes in the New Year.
“In the Agricultural sector, we need to inform the APC Publicity Secretary that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is committed and focused on boosting the Agriculture sector and ensuring food security with a well-structured strategic vision, where farmers are not only regularly provided inputs and over 6,000 of them financially empowered, but with the government also aiming to raise 50,000 Agro-preneurs in collaboration with the Africa Development Bank-NEPAD Partnership programme for agricultural development. These collaborations will definitely continue with more strategic and mutually rewarding partnerships for our farmers and indeed Deltans, in 2025.
“As an open government, the office of the Delta State Commissioner for Information is inviting the APC spokesman, Valentine Onojeghuo and his team, on a facility tour of projects so far embarked upon by the Oborevwori’s administration in the State since coming into office, provided they would be honest enough to accurately report what they will see on ground.
“This way they would become fully abreast of the developmental strides of Governor Oborevwori’s administration, rather than rely on rumours or unfounded speculations as their main sources of information.
“I need to remind Mr. Valentine Onojeghou that the time for politics is over and now is the time for governance. When the time for politics comes, we will all be ready to play it together.
“Finally, I would like to send my warm New Year greetings to Deltans and also to reiterate my earlier statement that Deltans have a lot to expect from the Oborevwori’s administration, as he continues to deliver pragmatic, verifiable, and life-impacting democracy dividends through the very articulate M.O.R.E Agenda, for Deltans and Delta State, in 2025.
“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is working and Deltans are seeing it,” he asserted.
A press statement signed and issued to Blank NEWS Online by the Delta StateCommissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, reads
“Dear Deltans,
“On behalf of the Delta State Government, I happily congratulate all of us for seeing the end of 2024 and heartily welcome you to a brand New Year 2025. To God be all the Glory!
“As we step into the New Year with great hope, enthusiasm, optimism and anticipation of what we will accomplish together in the weeks and months ahead, I hereby wish to assure you that the M.O.R.E Agenda is fully on course to deliver more dividends of democracy to all Deltans.
“We will not only intensify our commitment and determination towards impacting positively and improving the lives and living standards of Deltans, but we will also not relent in our efforts at enhancing our dear State by continuing to deliver our impactful, enduring, and legacy projects across the three Senatorial districts and bringing more smiles and songs of joy to our people in the communities.
“His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori expresses profound gratitude to Deltans for supporting our administration through 2024.
“His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori deeply appreciates the dedication of Deltans towards making our State one of the safest and most hospitable States to visit, live and invest in. He is fully focused and determined to deliver More Meaningful Development, Create More Opportunities for All, Embark on More Realistic Reforms and provide a More conducive environment of Enhanced Peace and Security for Deltans in the New Year.
“The Governor enjoins all Deltans and residents not only to expect more from the M.O.R.E Agenda, but to also continue to support the administration by embracing unity and harmonious coexistence as we roll confidently into the New Year.
“Once again, we wish you all a Happy, Prosperous and Peaceful New Year.
Signed:
Dr. Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, Commissioner for Information, Delta State.”
Going by the demonstrated commitment and drive of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State, to the vision of the MORE Agenda, the strengthening of the foundation of various institutions critical to the management of development and growth, and the investments over the past 19 months of the administration, 2025 promises to be a year of harvest of projects across Delta State.
The administration started on a very strong note, especially with the Governor’s focus and determination to the completion of inherited projects and the initiation of new ones. This culminated in the delivery of a huge number of projects across various sectors within his 100 days in office.
Subsequently, by the end of his first year in office, the entire State had been turned into a massive construction site.
The Warri/Effurun flyover projects were loud, and more so too with the engagement of Julius Berger, adjudged as an ace construction firm, to ensure competent and timely delivery.
Equal attention has also been devoted to projects like the Beneku Bridge, the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, the Orere Bridge, the Isheagu-Ewulu Road, the Okpanam-Ibusa Bypass, the Trans Warri Ode-Itsekiri Road, Storm Water Drainage projects in various urban and sub-urban centres, a multiplicity of internal roads in various towns and cities and link roads in various rural and riverine communities.
Presently, the administration has about 513 roads and about 1,300 kilometres of drainage projects simultaneously under construction. These also include Federal Roads, which the Governor has repeatedly assured he would work on for the benefit of the people, with or without the possibility of a refund and except where there are existing contractual encumbrances.
While the contractors are routinely mobilized, the administration has also adopted the strategy of Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) on the big projects. This has ensured stability and efficiency in the implementation of the projects.
Remarkably, the administration has equally devised a special budgetary strategy of the provision of a dedicated allocation to Local Governments Areas for roads maintenance, raised from N1b in the 2024 budget, to N2b in the 2025 budget, for each Local Government.
The State government has also devoted 60% of the 2025 budget to capital expenditure, one of the highest ratio presently of any State budget in the country.
By the end of 2024, the Delta State Government won the Bill and Melinda Gates Awards for high performance in Primary Health Care Development, organised by the Nigerian Governors Forum.
The feat attests to the outstanding achievements of the administration in the health sector, which includes the ongoing renovation, upgrade and re-equipment of about 150 Primary Health Care Centres and 64 General Hospitals, the growth of the State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme to currently over 2m enrollees, the addition of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Southern Delta University, Ozoro (former Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro), with a new campus opened at Orerokpe, the establishment of the School of Medical and Health Technology, Ovrode, the provision of various critical CTU facilities at the University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, and Specialist Hospitals in the State, and the sustenance and improvement of the Mother and Under-5 Children Free Treatment Programme.
The Oborevwori performance story stretches across all other sectors, from education to agriculture, housing, transportation, judiciary, commerce, and industry.
There has been a high premium on social investments with the expansion of the beneficiaries of the D-CARES programme from 36,000 to over 250,000 in various result areas, in less than two years, with additions from other human capital development programmes like the MORE Grant Scheme, MORE Biz-Up by the Job Creation Office, as well as in the agricultural sector where farmers are not only regularly provided inputs and over 6,000 of them financially empowered, but with the government also aiming to raise 50,000 Agro-preneurs in collaboration with the Africa Development Bank-NEPAD Partnership programme for agricultural development.
It is interesting that in these deliveries, the administration has maintained a high level of fiscal discipline, financial prudence, accountability and transparency, relying mostly on its federal allocations and improvement on Internally Generated Revenue, without borrowing a dime.
It was for this reason, that the State was ranked tops in the Governance Accountability and Transparency Index (G.A.T.I) survey, designed to deepen good governance by beaming searchlight on the activities of the 36 States of the federation by the assessment of Public Access to Information and Open Data Initiatives; Budget Transparency and Participatory Budgeting; Audit and Oversight; Anti-Corruption Efforts; Government Responsiveness; Procurement Transparency and Media Freedom, conducted by an independent group of over 75 online editors across the country.
These all suggest that the Oborevwori vision, style and approach to governance is one of the best in the country, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu testified to this recently when he declared that, with more Governors like him, the country would be a better place.
This attestation will get even more fillip as we turn into 2025 for a harvest of the investments and yields of the Oborevwori’s development phenomenon for Deltans, driven and delivered through the M.O.R.E Agenda, in Delta State.
