FG Warns Nigerians in South Africa Amid Rising Anti-Foreigner Protests

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has issued a strong advisory urging Nigerians residing in South Africa to exercise caution following a surge in violent anti-foreigner protests across parts of the country.

The warning follows an official communication from the Nigerian Consulate General in Johannesburg, which reported that demonstrations in East London, Cape Town, Durban, and across KwaZulu-Natal have escalated into violence, resulting in looting, destruction of property, and injuries.

According to the consulate’s circular dated April 22, further protests are expected in Gauteng Province between April 27 and 29, as demonstrators intensify pressure on the South African government over the presence of foreign nationals.

In response, NiDCOM has advised Nigerians to steer clear of protest areas, avoid confrontations, and stay informed through local media channels for real-time updates. The commission also emphasized the importance of remaining law-abiding during the period of unrest.

Nigerian business owners have been specifically cautioned to shut down operations on Freedom Day, observed on April 27, and consider extending closures through April 29, noting that foreign-owned businesses are often prime targets during such disturbances.

NiDCOM reaffirmed its support for the position of Nigeria’s Consul-General in Johannesburg, Ninikanwa Okey-Uche, stating that the consulate remains fully operational and is working closely with South African security agencies to safeguard Nigerian nationals.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu is said to be engaging with her South African counterpart in diplomatic efforts aimed at addressing the situation and ensuring the safety of Nigerians.

The commission reiterated its commitment to the welfare of Nigerians abroad and urged continued vigilance as the situation develops.

The Ijaw nation in Delta State, Wednesday formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for re-election in 2027, in what emerged as the highpoint of a grand reception organised in honour of the governor.

The event, hosted by the Ijaw National Congress (worldwide) in Bomadi, drew prominent political leaders, traditional rulers, stakeholders and members of the Ijaw nation from across Delta State and beyond.

The endorsement followed a motion moved by the member representing Burutu Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Julius Pondi, that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori be endorsed and supported by the Ijaw people for a second term in office.

The motion, which was seconded by a member of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Oboro Preyor, was thereafter subjected to a voice vote by the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, and was unanimously adopted by the people.

The ceremony also featured the conferment of the traditional title of Izonebimiewei (the man that does good) of Delta State on Governor Oborevwori by the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Forum, in recognition of what was described as his outstanding developmental strides across Ijaw communities.

Addressing the mammoth crowd, Governor Oborevwori expressed deep appreciation for the honour and the overwhelming show of support, describing it as one of the highest recognitions he had received from his people.

He noted that his administration had so far expended over N400 billion on infrastructural development in Ijaw communities, spanning roads, bridges, schools and healthcare facilities, and assured that more projects would be delivered in the coming years.

The governor highlighted key projects in the area to include; the Bomadi–Gbaregolor Road, the Ohoror-Bomadi road, Oporoza township roads, internal roads in Patani and Ogulagha, and the ongoing Ayakoromo Bridge, describing them as part of deliberate efforts to open up riverine areas and improve connectivity.

Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, stressing that no ethnic nationality in the state would be left behind.

He also commended the Ijaw nation for its sustained support during his 2023 campaigns, including the legal battles that followed the 2023 governorship election.

He said: “I remain grateful for the unwavering support of the Ijaw people, which strengthened me through challenging times. This endorsement is deeply appreciated and will not be taken for granted”.

Also speaking at the event, Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, praised Oborevwori’s developmental efforts, particularly in riverine communities, noting that the terrain should no longer be seen as a barrier to infrastructure.

He urged the Ijaw people to remain united, stressing that unity of purpose would enhance their political relevance and ensure their voices are heard at all levels of governance.

In his remarks, President of the Ijaw National Congress, INC, Prof. Benjamin Okaba, described the reception as a strategic platform to appreciate the governor’s performance and strengthen collaboration between the Ijaw nation and the Delta State Government.

He acknowledged several landmark projects executed by the administration and called for the prioritisation of additional infrastructure, including roads, bridges, healthcare facilities and educational institutions in Ijaw areas.

Earlier, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor said the endorsement was a reflection of the governor’s visible achievements across Ijaw communities, citing multiple road projects and institutional developments as evidence of his commitment to the region.

The event witnessed a large turnout of political leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups and women organisations, underscoring what stakeholders described as a rare unity of purpose within the Ijaw nation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Senator Ned Nwoko set for a return to NASS. APC chieftain REVEALS

As Senator Ned Nwoko positions for a return to the National Assembly, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Emmanuel Eboh, has described any opposing ambition as self- serving, unnecessary  and detrimental to the peace and development of Delta North Senatorial District.

Speaking in an interview in Abuja, Chief Eboh, a former civil commissioner in Delta State, said Senator Nwoko continues to enjoy widespread goodwill and the support of the people of Delta North, popularly known as Anioma.

While acknowledging that political aspirations are legitimate in a democratic setting, Eboh cautioned against what he termed the “unacceptable drift towards turning politics into a family enterprise and a tool for power control and manipulation.”

He called on residents of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency and the wider Delta North district to resist  “the inordinate ambition of some Shylock politicians driven by selfish motives and unrestrained personal interests.”

The APC stalwart warned that personality-driven ambitions, rather than people-oriented leadership, could

lead to  avoidable rivalry and division within Delta North.

Chief Eboh maintained that Senator Nwoko’s performance in office has been commendable and deserving of re-election, citing key interventions in rural road construction, electrification, education, potable water supply, and empowerment programmes.

He further highlighted the senator’s sustained advocacy for the recognition and identity of Anioma, noting  that it was “unprecedented in the political history of the district”.

According to him, “Senator Nwoko has not only met expectations but surpassed them. He deserves re-election, particularly given the fact that the core constitutional responsibility of a senator is lawmaking for the good governance of the nation.”

Eboh said the people of Delta North regard Nwoko as a progressive leader who embodies unity and dignity across Anioma, stressing that he should not be distracted by unnecessary political contestation.

He reaffirmed that the senator’s commitment to the growth and development of Anioma remains unwavering and urged constituents to sustain their support for his return to the Senate.

The APC chieftain also called for continued backing of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In Response to Article by Bruno Anamosa: Why Ned Nwoko Deserves a Fair Assessment By Anioma People By Chidi Chukwutem

In Response to Article by Bruno Anamosa: Why Ned Nwoko Deserves a Fair Assessment By Anioma People

By Chidi Chukwutem

For too long, politics in Anioma has been reduced to a crude ledger of favours owed and debts unpaid. Leadership, however, is not a book of IOUs. It is measured by vision, courage, and the ability to translate long-suppressed aspirations into concrete political realities.

Senator Ned Nwoko did not arrive in the Nigerian Senate merely on the back of goodwill. He brought with him ideas, a record of national relevance, and a strategic clarity often absent in narratives that reduce political success to personality and patronage. That distinction is critical, now more than ever.

The claim that Senator Nwoko owes his political rise to a single individual reflects a misunderstanding of both democracy and the agency of the Anioma electorate.

In any functioning democracy, electoral victory belongs to the voters, not to political patrons. Anioma people chose him deliberately, not as a proxy or instrument, but as their representative.

To attribute his mandate or victory to one man is to diminish the independent political judgment of Anioma voters. What has been framed as ingratitude is, in reality, an assertion of representative autonomy. A senator is not subordinate to benefactors; he is accountable to his constituents and, ultimately, to the national interest.

Equating gratitude with unquestioning political obedience betrays a flawed understanding of public office. Representation demands independence of thought and action, not loyalty to individuals at the expense of the electorate.

One of the central criticisms raised concerns Senator Nwoko’s sponsorship of the Anioma State creation bill, particularly the proposal that the new state be situated within the South East region. Opponents have portrayed this as a distortion of identity or a rejection of Anioma’s South-South affiliation.

This argument, however, conflates administrative geography with cultural and historical identity. It ignores the substantive rationale underpinning the proposal, a rationale that has been clearly and consistently articulated.

The Anioma State movement is neither impulsive nor arbitrary. It is a structured constitutional effort aimed at correcting longstanding imbalances within Nigeria’s federal arrangement. The goal is equitable representation for a people who, despite their cultural and economic contributions, have historically remained at the margins of federal influence.

Rather than undermining Anioma identity, the initiative reinforces it. The Anioma people share deep linguistic and cultural ties with the larger Igbo heritage, ties rooted in history, language, and tradition.
Recognizing this connection does not erase Anioma’s uniqueness; rather, it strengthens its claim to dignity, inclusion, and self-determination.

Critics have also alleged that the proposal lacks adequate consultation. This claim does not withstand scrutiny. Senator Nwoko engaged in extensive consultations across Anioma land. The narrative of exclusion appears to be driven less by fact and more by political resistance from entrenched interests wary of losing influence.

Notably, a major summit was convened in August 2024 in Asaba, drawing broad participation from stakeholders across the region. This alone undermines the assertion that the people were sidelined. The argument of non-consultation, therefore, lacks credibility.

Furthermore, the legislative process surrounding state creation is inherently rigorous and consultative. It involves multiple stages of debate, review, and input from both state and national actors.

The ongoing progress of the bill in the National Assembly, alongside growing legislative support, reflects not imposition but procedural legitimacy.

Senator Nwoko’s engagement beyond Anioma, through consultations and hearings in other regions, demonstrates respect for the constitutional framework. State creation is not a parochial exercise; it requires national consensus. His approach aligns with this reality.

It is also important to recognize that the initiative has attracted support from influential national stakeholders. This is not the project of a lone actor but part of a constitutional effort gaining traction at significant levels of governance.

Beyond the state creation debate, Senator Nwoko’s tenure has sparked renewed civic consciousness among Anioma youths. A region once perceived as politically peripheral is increasingly asserting its voice and relevance. This shift is not just symbolic, it reflects deliberate engagement and strategic advocacy.
To label such efforts as “betrayal” is to substitute emotion for analysis.

Leadership is not the preservation of past expectations; it is the pursuit of future possibilities. It requires the courage to challenge existing structures and reimagine what is possible.

Anioma’s future will not be secured through allegiance to outdated political arrangements. It will be shaped by bold engagement with constitutional mechanisms and a willingness to demand structural equity.

The people of Anioma deserve representation that confronts marginalisation, not one that accommodates it. The vision for Anioma State speaks directly to that aspiration: equitable representation, greater autonomy, and a stronger voice within Nigeria’s democratic framework.
That is not betrayal. That is leadership.

Delta Traditional rulers endorse Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd for the pipeline surveillance contract,

— Delta Traditional rulers from Ijaw, Urhobo, Isoko and Ndokwa extractions in Delta State have Delta Traditional ruler Delta Traditional rulers endorse Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd for the pipeline surveillance contract, urging Bola Ahmed Tinubu to renew and expand its mandate.

The endorsement followed an enlarged meeting of the monarchs held on Monday at the palace of HRM Dr. Emmanuel E. Sideso, OON, JP, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom.

The communique issued was signed on behalf of the 50 traditional rulers present by HRM Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso Abe I, JP. OON, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom and Chairman,   Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council, HRM(Capt) King Joseph 1, Timiya JP, PHD, the Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha kingdom and chairman, Ijaw Traditional Rulers Forum.

Others were the Chairman, the Odio-Ologbo of Onokoko Kingdom and Chairman, Ndokwa Traditional Rulers Council, the Ovie of Uzere HRM Isaac Udogri JP and Chairman,  Isoko Traditional Rulers Forum as well as HRM King Monday Obukowho Whiskey, JP PHD, Odurhie 1, the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom and Spokesperson for Urhobo Traditional Council

In an open letter to the President, the monarchs expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for awarding the contract to Tantita, stating that the company has delivered measurable results in securing oil and gas infrastructure.

“We express deep appreciation and profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd worthy of the pipeline surveillance contract in the Niger Delta,” the monarchs said.

They noted that the firm’s operations have led to a significant reduction in criminal activities across the region.

“There has been a reduction in criminality on all fronts, including illegal bunkering, crude oil theft, kidnapping, sea piracy, armed robbery and youth restiveness,” the statement added.

The traditional rulers further stated that the improved security situation has positively impacted Nigeria’s economy and the environment.

“It has bolstered the economy of the country and improved both aquatic and terrestrial habitats due to the reduction in illegal bunkering and destruction of oil and gas pipelines,” they said.

According to them, Nigeria’s oil production has increased to about 1.8 million barrels per day, with gas output also rising, a development they said has attracted more foreign direct investment.

The monarchs, however, opposed calls for decentralisation of the pipeline surveillance contract, warning that such a move could reverse the gains recorded.

“We condemn the call for decentralisation of the Tantita contract. Our findings show that the contract is already decentralised, with various contractors handling different sections across ethnic nationalities,” they stated.

They appealed to the President to renew and expand the scope of the contract to sustain the progress achieved.

“We appeal to Mr. President to renew and expand the scope of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd to enhance increased oil and gas output and ensure optimum peace and stability in the region,” they said.

Speaking at the meeting, a representative of Tantita, Barrister Emmanuel Jakpa, commended the monarchs for their support, describing it as critical to national security.

“Your service in your respective kingdoms in supporting this work is a national service because it concerns the security of the most valuable assets in our nation’s economy,” Jakpa said.

He disclosed that prior to the award of the contract in 2022, Nigeria’s oil production had dropped significantly due to crude oil theft.

“When this contract was signed in August 2022, production was around 700,000 barrels per day. Today, that story has changed completely, with recovery levels now between 97 and 99 per cent,” he stated.

Jakpa added that the company’s intervention has improved environmental conditions in the Niger Delta.

“If you visited many communities before now, soot pollution was a major issue. Today, that has significantly reduced, and our environment is cleaner and safer,” he said.

He warned that the progress made could be reversed if support for the initiative is withdrawn.

“This progress is not irreversible. If the right things are not sustained, we may return to the days of pollution and insecurity,” he cautioned.

In their separate remarks, some monarchs praised Tantita’s performance, particularly its role in restoring livelihoods and creating employment opportunities for youths.

“One of the greatest impacts is that our people can now return to fishing and farming. Our rivers are cleaner, and our environment is safer,” a monarch said.

Another traditional ruler noted that the company had engaged many youths in surveillance operations.

“Many of our youths are now employed as security personnel, which has reduced restiveness in our communities,” he said.

However, the monarchs called for improved communication between Tantita and traditional institutions.

“There must be continuous engagement with traditional rulers. This is the first major meeting since 2022, and such interactions should be regular to address issues and clear misconceptions,” one of them added.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by both the monarchs and Tantita to sustain collaboration in protecting critical national assets and promoting development in the Niger Delta.

2027: Uzodimma, Oborevwori, Okowa Rally South-South APC For Unified Messaging, Grassroots Mobilisation

The Governor of Imo State and Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Senator Hope Uzodimma and Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Monday, called for unity of purpose, message, and mobilisation across the country.

The duo who spoke during the South-South Strategic Communications and Mobilisation Summit themed “One Party, One Message, One Mobilisation,” held at Government House, Asaba, declared that Nigeria’s ongoing reforms require coordinated communication and effective grassroots engagement to succeed.

The event brought together political leaders and party stakeholders, including Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, to strengthen communication strategies and mobilise support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Uzodimma in his remarks, said the summit produced a comprehensive national work plan outlining timelines, responsibilities, and deliverables aimed at driving economic growth and national development. He described the plan as the “compass and spine” for all Renewed Hope Ambassadors nationwide.

The Imo governor noted that although Nigeria is witnessing improvements in macro-economic indicators such as GDP growth, increased oil production, and enhanced revenue allocation, a gap still exists between these gains and the realities experienced by citizens at the grassroots.

He said ambassadors must bridge this gap by translating government policies into simple, relatable language and engaging directly with communities.

“You are the interpreters of government vision and the bridge between performance and public understanding. You must go where the President cannot reach and explain reforms in ways people understand,” he said.

Uzodimma acknowledged that reforms such as subsidy removal and exchange rate adjustments come with temporary hardship, but maintained that such measures are necessary to correct decades of systemic dysfunction in the nation’s economy.

He urged participants to adopt a conversational approach in engaging citizens, emphasizing listening, transparency, and data-driven communication, while countering misinformation and opposition narratives with facts.

In his remarks, Delta State Governor and Chief Host, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, described the summit as a strategic platform to strengthen party structures and deepen grassroots mobilisation in the South-South region.

Oborevwori stressed that unity remains the foundation of political success, warning that fragmented messaging would weaken the party’s impact and create opportunities for opposition forces.

He called on stakeholders to sustain grassroots engagement, defend government policies, and translate support into electoral victories.

“Unity must be matched with action. We must take the message to the people, defend our reforms, and mobilise effectively,” he said.

Earlier, former Delta State Governor and South-South Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, said the summit was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively communicate the administration’s reform agenda.

Okowa explained that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was initiated to address long-standing economic and social challenges, including weak fiscal structures, unemployment, and low investor confidence.

He highlighted key achievements of the administration, including improved foreign reserves, increased oil production, expanded healthcare access, education reforms, and infrastructure development, while admitting that communication gap has limited public appreciation of these gains.

According to him, ambassadors must actively engage citizens in markets, communities, and institutions, using facts and relatable examples to explain reforms and counter misinformation.

Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion and South-West Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Adedayo Adeyeye, described the South-South as the economic backbone of Nigeria and expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections.

He said the region remains pivotal in determining Nigeria’s political direction, adding that growing alignment with the APC reflects increasing acceptance of the party’s policies and leadership.

Participants at the summit were urged to replicate the strategies discussed in their respective states and local government areas, with emphasis on measurable actions, continuous engagement, and unified messaging.

The summit also had in attendance, Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, APC Deputy National Chairman (South) Emmanuel Eneukwu, South-South Chairman, Victor Giadom, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Speaker Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, as well as members of the National and State Assemblies from the region, among other dignitaries.

The summit concluded with a strong call for commitment, discipline, and coordinated action, as party leaders stressed that the success of ongoing reforms and future electoral victories would depend on effective communication, grassroots mobilisation, and sustained public engagement.

Work Set to Begin on Onicha-Ugbo–Idumuje Ugboko Road Following Senator Ned Nwoko’s Intervention

Work Set to Begin on Onicha-Ugbo–Idumuje Ugboko Road Following Senator Ned Nwoko’s Intervention

Construction work is set to commence on the long-awaited Onicha-Ugbo–Idumuje Ugboko Road following the arrival of heavy-duty equipment at the project site, a development widely credited to the sustained intervention and advocacy of Senator Ned Nwoko.

Residents of the two agrarian communities in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta state have welcomed the mobilization of contractors, describing it as a decisive step toward resolving years of infrastructural neglect that have hampered mobility, trade, and economic growth.

The Onicha-Ugbo–Idumuje Ugboko Road serves as a vital inter-community corridor, linking farmers, traders, students, and commuters to surrounding towns and Edo State through to Abuja.

For years, the road’s deteriorated surface, characterized by deep potholes, erosion channels, and seasonal flooding, has posed significant logistical and safety challenges.

Motorists have frequently reported vehicle damage and prolonged travel times, while farmers have struggled to transport produce to market efficiently, resulting in higher costs and post-harvest losses.

The commencement of construction is therefore viewed not merely as an infrastructure upgrade, but as a long-overdue economic stimulus for the area.

Multiple community sources attribute the breakthrough to the persistent efforts of Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

According to stakeholders, the senator engaged federal development authorities and consistently pressed for intervention funding to address critical road infrastructure within his constituency.

His advocacy reportedly culminated in the project’s approval through the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the federal agency tasked with facilitating sustainable development across the Niger Delta region.

Community leaders say the senator’s involvement underscores a broader legislative agenda focused on rural infrastructure renewal, connectivity, and economic empowerment.

Although detailed engineering specifications have yet to be publicly disclosed, standard rehabilitation works are expected to include grading, drainage channel construction, culvert installation, and asphalt surfacing to ensure year-round motorability.

Infrastructure experts emphasize that effective drainage systems will be essential to preventing future washouts, particularly given the area’s susceptibility to heavy rainfall and erosion.

Once completed, the reconstructed road is expected to reduce transportation and logistics costs, enhance access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities,
improve road safety, stimulate small and medium-scale enterprises, increase property and land values in the area.

Residents have expressed optimism while also calling for rigorous project supervision and adherence to quality standards to ensure durability.

Some stakeholders have urged transparency in timelines and contractor performance to safeguard public investment.

The Onicha-Ugbo–Idumuje Ugboko Road project aligns with ongoing federal and regional efforts to address infrastructure deficits in Delta North and other parts of the Niger Delta.

Observers note that strategic road investments often serve as catalysts for rural transformation by strengthening economic linkages and expanding opportunities.

For many, the project represents tangible evidence of responsive representation and coordinated institutional action.

If executed to specification and completed within schedule, the rehabilitation of the Onicha-Ugbo–Idumuje Ugboko Road will stand as a significant milestone, one directly linked to the legislative push and intervention efforts of Senator Ned Nwoko, and a development poised to reshape mobility and commerce across the affected communities.

How We Are Tackling Electricity Challenges In Delta – Gov.Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has outlined comprehensive measures being implemented by his administration to address persistent electricity challenges across the state, combining policy reforms with aggressive infrastructure development to boost power supply and stimulate economic growth.

Speaking during the inauguration of the 31-kilometre rehabilitated Ohoror–Bomadi Road on Tuesday, the governor revealed that several communities that had been without electricity for over a decade, have now been reconnected to the national grid, significantly improving living standards and opening up new economic opportunities.

Oborevwori explained that his administration is pursuing a proactive and structured approach to resolving power issues through the extension of 33KV transmission lines, installation of new transformers, and rehabilitation of critical electricity infrastructure in previously underserved areas.

“We are taking deliberate and practical steps to address power supply challenges across Delta State. Efforts are ongoing to extend 33KV lines, install transformers, and rehabilitate critical electricity infrastructure,” the governor stated.

He noted that the enactment of the Delta State Electricity Law, alongside the approval of the State Electricity Policy by the Executive Council, has provided a solid legal and institutional framework to confront power sector challenges more effectively.

The Governor said: “As a sub-national, we are fully aware of the power challenges in some parts of the state. With these policy instruments in place, we are better positioned to drive sustainable improvements in electricity supply”.

The governor further disclosed that a reputable electricity consulting firm has been engaged to drive the implementation of the administration’s MORE Agenda in the power sector.

According to him, the firm is currently conducting a comprehensive assessment of electricity infrastructure across the state, with a final report expected soon to guide further interventions.

Providing details of ongoing projects, Oborevwori said the government has extended 33KV overhead lines and installed six distribution transformers in Ode-Itsekiri, Orugbo, Ajigba, Inorin, Usele, and Ugbodede communities in Warri South-West Local Government Area. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed before the end of the year.

In Ndokwa East Local Government Area, the governor announced the upgrade of a 2.5MVA transformer to a 5MVA, 33/11KV injection substation at Agbarha-Otor, in Ughelli North, a development that has restored electricity to communities that had been in darkness for more than 10 years.

He added that similar interventions are ongoing in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, where distribution transformer substations are being provided to six communities to improve power distribution.

Oborevwori also disclosed that the rehabilitation of the collapsed 33KV high-tension line from Ogbe-Ogume to Kwale has been completed, while work is ongoing on the restoration of a 7.5MVA injection substation in Kwale, alongside the installation of additional distribution transformers.

According to the governor, efforts are also underway to revive long-abandoned power facilities in other parts of the state, with the State Executive Council already granting necessary approvals for the projects.

He attributed the progress recorded so far to supportive federal policies and acknowledged the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in creating an enabling environment for sub-national governments to improve infrastructure delivery.

“These achievements would not have been possible without the economic reforms and visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Beyond electricity, the governor disclosed that approvals have been granted for the construction of new police divisions across local government areas for State Police, as well as a state-of-the-art Special Protection Unit base to strengthen security architecture in the state. He directed the Ministry of Lands and Survey to commence land acquisition for the projects.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive and participatory governance, Oborevwori assured residents that the MORE Agenda would continue to be implemented with fairness, justice, and equity.

He said: “We remain committed to delivering on our promises. We will continue to listen to the people, embrace constructive criticism, and work together in the true spirit of democracy”.

2027 Senate Race: Why Delta North Needs Stability, Not Experimentation

By Chidi Chukwutem

As conversations gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, one message is becoming increasingly clear across Delta North: there should be no vacancy in the Senate seat currently occupied by Ned Nwoko. The argument is not merely political, it is developmental, strategic, and rooted in continuity. Senator Nwoko is needed in 2027 because the work before him, and before Delta North, is far from finished.

Representing Delta North in the Nigerian Senate, Nwoko has demonstrated that effective representation extends beyond occupying a seat. It requires visibility, legislative engagement, negotiation capacity, and the ability to translate federal opportunities into tangible constituency impact. In a district with significant infrastructural and socio-economic needs, sustained and focused representation is indispensable.

Delta North is at a critical stage in its development trajectory. Road infrastructure, healthcare access, youth employment, agricultural revitalization, and educational support systems require more than symbolic advocacy, they demand consistent federal engagement over time. Many of these interventions follow multi-year cycles involving proposal drafting, committee review, budget inclusion, oversight, and implementation monitoring. We Are Changing Devt Narrative In Delta Riverine Communities – Oborevwori

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Tuesday declared that his administration is deliberately rewriting the development story of riverine communities through massive infrastructure investments and people-focused projects, policies, and programmes.

The Governor made the assertion during the commissioning of the reconstructed 31-kilometre Ohoror–Bomadi Road, a strategic corridor linking Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Patani, Burutu, Bomadi and Burutu Local Government Areas.

Oborevwori described the project as a major milestone in his administration’s resolve to ensure equitable development across all parts of the state, particularly the historically underserved riverine areas.

“We are resolved to rewrite the story of our riverine communities. Our administration is committed to ensuring that sustainable development gets to every part of the state, regardless of terrain or location,” he insisted.

He noted that the road project would significantly boost socio-economic activities in the affected communities by improving connectivity, facilitating trade, and enhancing access to essential services.

According to him, the project will positively impact at least five local government areas, opening up economic opportunities and reducing travel time across the region.

The Governor emphasized that infrastructure development remains a critical driver of economic growth, noting that improved road networks would connect farmers to markets, attract investments and strengthen rural-urban integration.

Providing details of the project, Oborevwori explained that the scope of work included extensive engineering interventions tailored to the swampy terrain, such as sand filling, soil stabilization, concrete reinforcement, embankment protection and asphalt surfacing. He added that the road spans widths of between 6.5 and 10.3 metres, with hard shoulders in some sections.

He also highlighted other ongoing and completed projects across the state, including roads, bridges and educational infrastructure, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to delivering the MORE Agenda anchored on fairness, justice and equity.

Oborevwori disclosed that the State Executive Council recently approved projects worth over N400 billion across critical sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, power, judiciary and security.

On power supply, the Governor said his administration is taking proactive steps to address electricity challenges through policy reforms and infrastructure upgrades, including the extension of transmission lines and installation of transformers in previously underserved communities.

He revealed that some communities that had been without electricity for over a decade have now been reconnected to the national grid, improving living conditions and economic prospects.

The Governor also announced plans to strengthen security across the state, including the construction of police divisions in all 25 local government areas for State Police and a Special Protection Base to enhance safety.

Earlier, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said the 31-kilometre road project traverses multiple communities and features modern engineering solutions designed to ensure durability in difficult terrain.

In his welcome address, Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Council, Hon. Dagidi Andaye, expressed appreciation to the Governor for what he described as a historic intervention, noting that the area had not witnessed such a project in over 16 years.

He said the road would drastically reduce accidents, improve livelihoods and ease the movement of people and goods across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the people, community leaders and stakeholders including, Hon. Nicholas Mutu, Senator James Manager, Hon. Oboro Preyor, HRM Pere Luke Kalalanama and 1st Vice Chairman of Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, and Mrs Flora Brisibo, commended the Governor for his inclusive governance style and commitment to development, assuring him and President Bola Tinubu of their continued support and massive votes in the 2027 elections.

They noted that the completion of the road has brought relief to residents, many of whom had suffered economic hardship due to poor access and high transportation costs.

The event drew a large crowd of residents, political leaders and traditional rulers, reflecting widespread appreciation for the project and its expected impact on the area.

Senator Nwoko Appointed Chairman of Protocol Subcommittee for APC National Convention

‎The All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Senator Ned Nwoko as Chairman of the Protocol Subcommittee of its National Convention Committee, a strategic role that places the Delta North lawmaker at the operational center of one of the party’s most consequential gatherings.

‎ The appointment underscores the party’s emphasis on structure, coordination, and procedural discipline as it prepares for its forthcoming national convention.

‎The APC National Convention is a pivotal mechanism within the party’s constitutional framework, serving as a forum for leadership decisions, policy direction, structural adjustments, and reaffirmation of party cohesion.

‎Within that architecture, the Protocol Subcommittee functions as a critical logistical and procedural unit responsible for managing ceremonial order, accreditation systems, dignitary coordination, and compliance with established guidelines governing the convention’s proceedings.

‎Senator Nwoko will lead a subcommittee composed of prominent party figures, including Abba Bello as Co-Chairman, Kalifat Obama as Vice Chairman, Barr. Mary Ekpere as Secretary, and Hon. Ibori-Suenu Erhiatake as Assistant Secretary. Other members include Hon. Hussaini Namadi Abdulkadir, Hon. Prince Wali Wosu, Hon. Chidiebere Oku-Worlu, Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji, and Hon. Bello Kaoje.

‎The composition reflects a blend of legislative experience, legal expertise, and grassroots political engagement, positioning the team to manage the complex operational demands of a large-scale national political convention.
‎Protocol management at a national convention extends far beyond ceremonial formalities.

‎ It involves the structured coordination of delegate accreditation, seating arrangements, and movement logistics for party leaders, governors, lawmakers, stakeholders, and invited guests.

‎ It also requires synchronization with security agencies and other subcommittees to ensure orderly proceedings, transparency in voting or decision-making processes, and strict adherence to party constitutional provisions.

‎Given the scale of APC conventions, which typically attract thousands of delegates and observers, the effectiveness of the Protocol Subcommittee directly impacts the credibility and overall success of the event.

‎Senator Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate, brings legal training, legislative experience, and administrative exposure to the role.

‎His appointment signals the party leadership’s confidence in his capacity to provide structured oversight and diplomatic coordination in a politically sensitive environment.

‎Effective protocol oversight at such a level requires procedural rigor, negotiation skills, and operational foresight, attributes essential for maintaining order in a high-stakes political assembly.

‎The forthcoming APC National Convention is widely regarded as significant in consolidating party structures and strengthening internal unity ahead of future electoral cycles.

‎As such, the performance of the various convention committees, particularly the Protocol Subcommittee, will be closely observed by party members, political analysts, and external stakeholders.

‎ Smooth accreditation processes, disciplined time management, seamless coordination of dignitaries, and strict compliance with party guidelines will serve as indicators of institutional strength.

‎Senator Nwoko’s leadership of the Protocol Subcommittee therefore represents both an administrative mandate and a measure of political trust.

‎ As preparations advance, attention will remain on how effectively the committee executes its responsibilities, ensuring that the APC National Convention proceeds with order, credibility, and organizational coherence befitting a ruling political party.

Delta Govt Approves Hostels for Tertiary Institutions …Moves To Complete Abandoned DELSU Senate Building

The Delta State Government has approved the construction of male and female hostels across nine state-owned tertiary institutions as part of efforts to address accommodation challenges faced by students.

The State Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the end of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Professor Tonukari described the decision as a significant step forward for students and their parents, noting that the rising student population in the state’s tertiary institutions has made hostel accommodation a pressing need.

He said recent figures presented during the convocation ceremonies of the three newly established universities in the state showed that the three institutions alone currently have about 40,000 students.

According to him, the growing enrollment has placed enormous pressure on available accommodation facilities within the universities.

Tonukari noted that Delta State University, Abraka currently has more than 35,000 students, while its hostel facilities can only accommodate about 2,000 students, adding that the newer universities have even fewer hostel spaces, capable of housing only a few hundred students.

To address the challenge, the Executive Council approved the construction of two hostel blocks, one for male students and one for female students in each of the nine state owned tertiary institutions.

He said the initiative was part of Governor Oborevwori administration’s effort to significantly reduce accommodation shortages and improve the learning environment for students across the institutions.

The Commissioner further disclosed that the council also approved the reconstruction and completion of the abandoned Senate Building at Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.

According to him, the project was originally awarded in 2010 but had remained uncompleted for several years before the latest intervention by the state government.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, assured that the Ministry of Housing would ensure effective supervision and timely delivery of the approved projects.

Angele assured that the ministry would work diligently to ensure that the projects are executed efficiently and delivered within schedule.

Delta, NDDC, Chevron Move To Strengthen Partnership On Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road Project

The Delta State Government, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Chevron Nigeria Limited have moved to strengthen collaboration for the construction of the proposed Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road and Bridges project in Delta State.

The project, which spans about 70 kilometres and 29 bridges, is expected to significantly improve connectivity across riverine communities and stimulate economic development in the Niger Delta region.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori gave the assurance of the state government’s readiness to partner with the NDDC and Chevron during a meeting with the leadership of the commission and the oil company’s delegation at Government House, Asaba on Thursday.

Oborevwori commended the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Sam Ogbuku, for the progress recorded under his leadership and pledged Delta State’s commitment to ensuring the project becomes a reality.

The governor noted that the Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road was critical to the development of riverine communities and would open up the area for increased economic activities.

“We are ready to partner with NDDC on this project because it is very key to those living in the riverine areas. Delta State believes in executing projects that people will see and appreciate,” he said.

Oborevwori, however, stressed that the state government would only support the project if it was awarded to a reputable construction company capable of delivering it to completion without abandoning the work.

According to him, the state government would also set up a technical team to work with the NDDC and Chevron to review the project design, determine the current cost and outline the contributions expected from each stakeholder.

The governor said the team would also address issues such as right-of-way, realignment of sections of the road and other technical considerations necessary for the successful execution of the project.

He emphasized that Delta State had consistently demonstrated its willingness to support major infrastructure projects, including those initiated by the Federal Government, adding that the state was currently undertaking several strategic roads and flyover projects on federal roads across the state.

Earlier, Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Sam Ogbuku, said the commission and Chevron were in Delta State to brief the governor on the progress made in discussions regarding the project.

Ogbuku explained that the project was originally awarded by the commission many years ago but had remained incomplete, prompting the NDDC to explore partnerships as part of efforts to fulfil President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive that all abandoned projects in the region be completed.

He said the Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road project would deliver enormous benefits to Delta State and the entire Niger Delta by improving access to remote communities and boosting economic activities.

“The benefit of this project to the region and to Delta State cannot be overemphasized. It is about 70 kilometres long with 29 bridges, and it will open up the area for socio-economic development,” he said.

Ogbuku added that Chevron had already secured approvals from its joint venture partners to participate in the project and that several meetings had been held between the parties to advance discussions.

He said technical teams from the NDDC, Delta State Government and Chevron would meet to validate the existing design, review project costs, and carry out environmental and geotechnical studies.

According to him, the stakeholders would also conduct community engagements to address right-of-way issues and other concerns that could affect the implementation of the project.

Speaking on behalf of Chevron Nigeria Limited, Dr. Segun Kuteyi expressed the company’s readiness to partner with the NDDC and Delta State Government to deliver the project.

Kuteyi noted that Chevron had operated in Nigeria for more than six decades and remained committed to supporting infrastructure development in communities within its areas of operation.

He said the proposed road would enhance connectivity between Warri and Escravos and provide significant benefits to communities and institutions in the region.

According to him, facilities such as the Nigerian Maritime University in Okerenkoko, as well as emerging small and medium-scale enterprises, would benefit immensely from the road project.

Kuteyi stressed that the successful execution of the project would require strong collaboration among all stakeholders, including the Delta State Government, the NDDC, Chevron and its joint venture partners.

He added that Chevron was committed to building the necessary partnerships that would ensure the safe and timely delivery of the project, which is expected to take several years to complete due to its scale and challenging terrain.

The stakeholders agreed to establish a joint technical committee that would determine the final cost of the project, review the design to reflect current realities and outline the contributions of all participating parties before the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the commencement of the project.
