Asagba of Asaba hosts corporate Nigeria in Lagos* *To unveil investment opportunities, new deal

In a bid to actualise the growing status of Asaba as the primary urban growth hub for Delta State and the service anchor for surrounding industrial zones, the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, OON, SAN, LLD(HC), FNIAL, FICMC, KSJI, KSG is meeting investors and corporate Nigeria in Lagos to showcase the opportunities in the ancient city.
The meeting scheduled for March 29 at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos is with the theme “Asaba: The strategic gateway to Nigeria’s next economic powerhouse”. With a state-led industrial framework built on Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) and risk sharing, the Asaba monarch’s “Evening with corporate Nigeria” will showcase the Delta State capital city as the “inevitable gateway
linking the South-East, South-South, and South-West markets”.
One of the major attractions for investors Prof. Azinge will unveil before the business community is the Asaba Waterfront City, a major 999,999 square meter, Grade A mixed-use development modern, tech-driven city along the River Niger.
The project is already under construction with projected completion between 2028 and 2030, featuring advanced infrastructure, flood control, and premium residential and commercial spaces.
There are also the Asaba Ultra Modern Mall as well as the International Conference Centre, projects that have become imperative with rapid population inflow and an expanding middle income workforce.
The International conference Centre whose construction is also ongoing is a multidimensional complex that provides the necessary environment for large scale conferences and meetings. To complement the complex and ensure its sustainability, support facilities like restaurants, meeting rooms, a cultural centre and offices are also provided.
The complex comprises a 1,500-seater auditorium, 1,000 capacity ultramodern Banquet Hall with combined concourse, and additional 11 meeting rooms of different capacities.
The monarch, a one-time director general of the Nigerian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies, is using the meeting to create a dedicated platform for direct engagement with stakeholders, relationship building and deal origination.
The projects, especially the ones already under construction are part of a broader vision to enhance the capital city, complementing other developments like the Asaba Mall and upgrading the overall urban landscape. The meeting with the monarch is a convergence of culture and capital-focused dialogue on development opportunities and partnerships connected to Asaba’s growing economy.
Asagba Azinge is projecting the new status of Asaba and its positioning as a state capital which exposes it to the provision of prime infrastructural amenities as the next best haven for Nigeria’s business community.
The Maryam Babangida Park and Film Village which has become a one-stop centre for Nollywood will be highlighted by Asagba Azinge as Nigeria’s equivalent of Hollywood.
In the area of agriculture and agro-business, the development and coming on stream of Onitsha River Port as well as the emergence of Asaba Airport as one of the few viable airports with scheduled local and international connections will be at the core of the Asaba monarch’s presentation on the availability of a Clement economic environment.
In the area of real estate, measures had been introduced by the royal palace to ensure that all encumbrances in access to land for real estate development have been removed. The royal palace leveraged on the symphony between the Asaba traditional stool and the state government to eliminate areas of controversy in access to land. Essentially, the palace ensures that lands are free from touts masquerading as toll gate collectors and agents. The interface with the state government has set the stage for a high level of development and upgrade of infrastructure within the capital territory which Prof. Azinge will flaunt in guaranteeing the continuous upgrade of facilities.

Momentum Must Not Be Lost: Anioma Leaders Rally Behind Nwoko

‎Progress Requires Continuity: Nwoko Secures Strategic Endorsement

‎2027: Delta North Urged to Return Nwoko to the Senate

‎By the Technical Committee on Anioma State Creation

‎History is often unkind to long struggles. It remembers the victory but forgets the decades of labour, persuasion, negotiation and resilience that precede it. The quest for Anioma State has traversed generations, weathered political transitions, and survived moments of doubt. Yet, at no point in its history has the aspiration stood as close to constitutional realisation as it does today.

‎That proximity is neither accidental nor ornamental. It is the product of deliberate legislative engagement, strategic advocacy, and sustained political will.

‎*It is against this backdrop that the Technical Committee on Anioma State Creation unequivocally endorses SENATOR NED MUNIR NWOKO for a second term as Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.*

‎This endorsement is not a ceremonial gesture. It is a reasoned position.

‎For decades, Anioma leaders articulated the justice, viability and constitutional logic of state creation. Many advocated passionately, few institutionalised the process at the highest legislative level with the precision and consistency required to advance it through the rigorous constitutional amendment pathway. Senator Ned Nwoko has done so. That singular achievement marks a watershed in the history of the Anioma cause.

‎Beyond state creation, Senator Nwoko’s legislative footprint reveals a lawmaker operating with national breadth and constituency depth. His interventions span constitutional reform, fiscal federalism, youth empowerment, healthcare access, security restructuring, diaspora inclusion, agricultural modernisation, mining reform, social security architecture and public sector accountability.

‎In Delta North, his representation has not been confined to the chamber. It has translated into measurable infrastructural, agricultural, educational and healthcare interventions across the nine local government areas. From water supply schemes and irrigation systems to rural roads, school renovations, medical outreaches, empowerment programmes, solar electrification initiatives and agricultural mechanisation support.

‎Leadership, however, is not assessed merely by project enumeration. It is measured by clarity of direction and the courage to confront structural inequities. Senator Nwoko has demonstrated both.

‎The Anioma project, in particular, requires continuity. Constitutional alteration is a process demanding persistence, negotiation, cross-regional consensus building and institutional memory. Discontinuity at this critical juncture would not merely delay progress, it could reset years of painstaking advancement. The cause has reached a delicate and decisive phase. It requires a legislator already immersed in its procedural and political intricacies.

‎Our endorsement, therefore, is anchored on three imperatives: continuity of the Anioma State creation process, consolidation of developmental interventions across Delta North, and sustained legislative activism on issues of national restructuring and socio-economic reform.

‎Senator Ned Munir Nwoko has demonstrated the intellectual preparation, political stamina and legislative audacity required for the task ahead. The Senate, like any serious institution, rewards experience tempered by conviction. Delta North cannot afford regression at a moment demanding acceleration.

‎The Technical Committee on Anioma State Creation is persuaded that the journey toward the realisation of Anioma State, and the broader advancement of Delta North’s interests within the Nigerian federation, is best served by continuity of representation.

‎We therefore call upon the good people of Delta North Senatorial District, stakeholders across Anioma land, and all who believe in structural justice and developmental progress, to lend their support to Senator Ned Munir Nwoko’s second term bid in 2027.

‎The moment is strategic. The mandate must be sustained.

Oborevwori to Inaugurate Oko-Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu Road Project on Friday

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, will on Friday inaugurate the completed Phase One of the Oko-Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu Road project, including the access road linking the corridor to the Second Niger Bridge Service Road in Oshimili South Local Government Area.

The project, which spans about 4.7 kilometres, also includes adjoining roads linking the Oko communities is being executed by the Delta State Ministry of Works, Highways and Urban Roads.

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this on Wednesday while inspecting the project site in preparation for the governor’s visit and inauguration ceremony.

Aniagwu explained that the road project is designed to link several Oko communities, including Oko-Amakom and Oko-Anala, thereby improving connectivity within the area and enhancing access to the Second Niger Bridge corridor.

According to him, the first phase of the road construction covers about 4.7 kilometres, while work has already commenced on the second phase of the project.

He noted that the commissioning demonstrates Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to governance despite ongoing political activities in the state.

“In spite of electioneering campaigns and the party congresses, nothing is stopping governance. Immediately after our congress yesterday, the governor was even ready to commission the project today, but we pleaded for time to properly prepare the ground for the event,” Aniagwu said.

He stressed that the governor remains committed to delivering projects across the state until the very last day of his administration.

Aniagwu also explained that the road was deliberately constructed at an elevated level due to the waterlogged nature of the environment and the history of flooding in the area.

“This environment is usually waterlogged during the rainy season. That is why the engineers designed the road to be raised far above the 2012 flood level. Some surrounding buildings are lower, but the road is elevated by several metres to prevent it from being submerged during flooding,” he said.

He added that significant sand filling using sharp sand was required after removing unsuitable soil to ensure the stability of the road alignment.

According to him, the project is being executed by Setraco Nigeria Limited, a construction firm known for handling major infrastructure projects across the country.

“The governor believes that five-star projects should be given to five-star contractors, and that is why Setraco, a very competent company that has delivered many projects for us, is handling this project,” Aniagwu said.

Speaking on Amaechi Agusi and adjoining streets in Asaba, which are also slated for commissioning on Friday, Aniagwu said the roads were handled by the Capital Territory Development Agency.

He explained that the roads were constructed with dual drainage systems on both sides to effectively channel flood water away into the main drainage along the Asaba–Benin Expressway.

Aniagwu noted that the contractor had been directed to begin immediate desilting and cleaning of the drains along the corridors ahead of the commissioning ceremony.

He said the road project would significantly enhance economic activities in the area by connecting communities to centres of commerce and production.

According to him, many lands previously used as farmland have now become viable residential plots due to improved access provided by the road.

“Providing roads like this enhances the commercial value of land and improves security because more people can access the community,” he said.

Aniagwu further noted that the road corridor could serve as an alternative route linking parts of Delta State, stretching toward Ndokwa East and Patani areas, thereby improving connectivity and reducing travel time for commuters.

He added that beyond improving mobility, the road would also enable farmers in the surrounding communities to easily transport their agricultural produce to markets.

The inauguration of the road forms part of the Oborevwori administration’s ongoing efforts to expand infrastructure and improve connectivity across communities in Delta State.

Delta APC Elects Solomon Arenyeka As Chairman, Oborevwori Charges New EXCO On 2027 Victory

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has elected Chief Solomon Arenyeka as its new State Chairman, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori charging the newly constituted State Woking Committee, SWC to begin immediate preparations for total victory in the 2027 general elections.

Chief Arenyeka emerged by consensus at the Delta APC State Congress held on Tuesday at the Cenotaph in Asaba. Elder Moses Iduh was elected Deputy Chairman, while Chief Efe Uko emerged as State Secretary.

Also elected through consensus were; Chief Paulinus Akpeki as Delta Central Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba as Delta South Chairman, Engr. Daniel Ossai as Delta North Chairman, Elder Emmanuel Egbabor as State Organising Secretary, Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo as State Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie as State Woman Leader and Christopher Agali as State Youth Leader, among others.

Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Engr. Vita Abba, who declared the new executive elected after their affirmation by delegates, said the affirmation process was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.

Earlier, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, moved a motion for the dissolution of the outgone State Working Committee to pave the way for the election of a new leadership. The motion was seconded by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and was unanimously adopted by party delegates.

Addressing party faithful, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude to the outgoing executive led by Elder Omeni Sobotie for steering the party through what he described as a defining transition period following the political realignment of April 2025.

The Governor said; “I stand before you today filled with a deep sense of responsibility and brimming with optimism about the bright prospects of our great party. What began as a principled decision to align Delta State with the renewed vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has evolved into a powerful and unstoppable political movement.”

He commended the discipline, cooperation and resilience demonstrated by party members across the state and described the peaceful conduct of congresses in the 270 wards, 25 local government areas and the State as a testament to the APC’s internal democracy.

“There was no imposition. What we witnessed is broad consultation, agreement and inclusiveness. This structure belongs to all of us,” he stated.

The governor charged the new executive to prioritize regular meetings, strengthen grassroots engagement and intensify voter mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 polls.

“Our mission is unequivocal. We must secure victory at every level – the Presidency, the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Governorship and the State House of Assembly,” Oborevwori said, expressing confidence that the APC in the state would deliver massive votes for President Tinubu and all party candidates.

He reiterated that his administration remains committed to transparency, accountability and performance under the MORE Agenda, highlighting strides in infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment, agriculture, security and human capital development.

In his remarks, immediate past State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, described the congress as the product of collective sacrifice and unity. He said: “In politics, what we have is not ‘I’ but ‘we.’ The interest of the people is more important than personal interests,” urging the new leadership to lead with humility. He added that; “ability may take a man to the top, but humility keeps him there.”

He expressed confidence that the APC in its present form was formidable and capable of overwhelming any opposition.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Solomon Arenyeka thanked party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him and members of the new State Working Committee.

“I am fully aware of the weight of this responsibility and do not take it lightly. We consider ourselves privileged to serve and we pledge to justify the confidence imposed in us,” he promised.

Arenyeka assured that the new executive would uphold the values of hard work, integrity, transparency and teamwork, while sustaining the tradition of consensus-building and accountability.

He paid tribute to Governor Oborevwori for what he described as exemplary leadership and unifying disposition, pledging that under his chairmanship, the Delta APC would become a model for other states.

Arenyeka said; “We have heard the marching orders from our leader. By God’s grace, we shall deliver all APC candidates in the 2027 elections”.

The congress drew party leaders and stakeholders from across the state and beyond, with a charged atmosphere of celebration and unity as the Delta APC formally inaugurated a new leadership ahead of the next electoral cycle.

OPINION: When Leadership Feels Personal: My Emotional Encounters with Senator Nwoko That Changed My Perception ‎

By Chidi Chukwutem

‎I have had the privilege of encountering Senator Ned Nwoko on several occasions, and each meeting left a deeper imprint on me than the last. It was an encounter that  revealed the character of the Senator. What I discovered in him was not merely a public official performing his role, but a man whose personality carries a rare blend of composure, conviction, openness, transparency and quiet warmth.

‎The first thing that struck me was his presence. Not dominance but presence. There is always an intellectual calm that fills the room without demanding attention. He speaks thoughtfully, choosing his words with precision, yet without stiffness. His confidence is evident, but it is not abrasive. It is the confidence of someone who understands both his responsibility and his limitations.

‎What moved me most was how he listens. In a political culture where speaking often outweighs hearing, he leans forward when others talk. I noticed this repeatedly. Whether addressing a policy issue or listening to a personal story, he does not interrupt unnecessarily. He processes. He reflects. And when he responds, it is clear that he has internalized what was said. That kind of attentiveness is deeply human. It makes you feel seen.

‎I remember one particular interaction with a group of young people who were anxious about their future. They came with uncertainty and left with reassurance, not because he offered promises, but because he engaged their concerns practically. He did not dismiss their fears. Instead, he acknowledged the structural challenges they faced and spoke candidly about what could realistically be done. That honesty, coupled with encouragement, created a powerful moment. It was leadership stripped of theatrics.

‎Despite his stature, accessibility defines him. I have observed how easily he bridges social divides. From traditional leaders to market women, from professionals to students, he meets people at their level without diminishing their dignity. He has security but they are never the type that blocks people from public officers.  He is consistent with his approach to people. That consistency is what builds trust. People do not feel intimidated around him; they feel invited into dialogue. He wants people always around him.

‎His philanthropy, too, carries a distinctive signature. It is not charity designed for applause; it is intervention designed for impact. I have seen how deliberate he is about educational support, healthcare initiatives, and infrastructural development. There is strategic thinking behind every effort, an understanding that sustainable empowerment matters more than temporary relief. He speaks about investment in human capital with conviction, and he backs those words with action.

‎Yet beyond the projects and public initiatives lies something more compelling: empathy. I witnessed a moment when a constituent approached him with a deeply personal hardship. The atmosphere shifted. Formality dissolved. He listened with patience, his expression reflecting genuine concern. In that exchange, politics became secondary; compassion took precedence. That moment revealed the core of his humaneness to me. It was not calculated. It was instinctive.

‎Leadership often hardens people. It can create distance, insulation, even indifference. What I have seen in him is the opposite, a deliberate effort to remain with the people. He carries ambition, yes, but he knows he is responsible to the people. He pursues development, but not at the expense of human connection. There is a balance between vision and vulnerability that makes his leadership feel relational rather than transactional.

‎On a personal level, my encounters with him have challenged some of my assumptions about public office. I have come to appreciate that influence does not have to erase empathy, and authority does not have to suppress approachability. He demonstrates that one can hold power and still hold people close.

‎When I reflect on my experiences, what stays with me is not a speech or a policy proposal, but a feeling, the feeling of being heard, respected, and valued. That, to me, is the true measure of leadership. It is not only about what is built or legislated, but about how lives are touched in the process.

‎In him, I have encountered a leader who understands that governance is ultimately about people, their dignity, their aspirations, and their struggles. And that understanding, more than anything else, is what makes his presence both compelling and deeply human

Delta Govt Urges Calm As Ibusa Protests Alleged Encroachment By Ogwashi-Uku

The Delta State Government has called on the people of Ibusa and Ogwashi-Uku communities in Oshimili North and Aniocha South Local Government Areas to maintain peace amid renewed tensions over a long-standing land dispute.

Chief of Staff, Government House, Asaba, Prince Johnson Erijo, made the appeal on Monday while addressing members of the Ibusa community who staged a peaceful protest to Government House over what they described as encroachment on their land by Ogwashi-Uku community.

The protesters, who carried placards with inscriptions such as “Ogwashi-Uku keep off from Ibusa land, we have Supreme Court verdict on the land,” “Implement Supreme Court judgment, Ibusa is a peaceful community,” and “Admiralty University is in Ibusa land, Ogwashi-Uku keep off,” called on the state government to enforce what they said were subsisting court judgments on the disputed boundary.

Addressing the demonstrators on behalf of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Prince Erijo commended the Ibusa community for conducting themselves peacefully and assured them that the government was already taking steps to address the matter.

He added that the state government had received the correspondence on the dispute prior to the protest and had begun taking necessary steps.

“As a government, there are established procedures for handling matters of this nature, and I want to assure you that we are already acting on this communication. In fact, we were in receipt of this correspondence before your visit today, and steps had already been taken prior to the weekend,” Erijo stated.

He appealed to both communities to remain law-abiding, stressing that government exists to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order.

“Be assured that the government will effectively ensure that law and order is maintained and that the issues raised are carefully examined. At the end of the process, the government will come out with a decision that will be fair, justifiable, and in the overall interest of peace and stability,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the Ibusa community, Barr. Peter Lotobi traced the history of the dispute, describing it as a long-standing boundary matter that had been conclusively determined by competent courts.

According to him, the case was first decided by the High Court, which delivered judgment after considering the boundary between Ibusa and Ogwashi-Uku.

He said the decision was subsequently affirmed by the Court of Appeal in 1982 after the opposing party challenged it, and later upheld by the Supreme Court in Appeal No. SC.32/1985, which dismissed the appeal and affirmed the concurrent judgments of the lower courts.

“We are a peaceful and law-abiding community. We have exercised restraint and counseled our youths to remain calm. That is why we have brought this matter before the Delta State Government,” Lotobi said.

He urged the state government to intervene decisively to ensure that the judgments of the courts are upheld and enforced in the interest of justice, peace and stability in the state.

Oborevwori Pays Condolence Visit To Elue Family …Describes Late Benjamin Elue As Humble, Peace-Loving Statesman

Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described the late former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Benjamin Elue, as a humble, and peace-loving leader whose life of service and integrity left an enduring legacy in the State.

Chief Elue, died on Saturday at the age of 85. Speaking with deep emotion when he paid a condolence visit to the Elue family country home in Obior, Aniocha North, Governor Oborevwori said the passing of the former deputy governor came as a rude shock.

The Governor who addressed the late former Deputy Governor’s widow, Lady Esther Elue, children and family members, recalled that Elue had recently indicated his readiness to attend an official engagement before his passage on Saturday.

“His demise came to us as a rude shock. Only recently, he had indicated his availability to attend an official meeting, and we were all looking forward to his presence,” the governor said.

The governor extolled the virtues of the late statesman, noting that Elue served Delta State with honour, dedication and integrity, and lived a life defined not by material accumulation, but by positive impact.

He said: “Chief Elue was a humble man and a great leader who served this state with honour, dedication and integrity. It is not the number of years one lives that matters, but the impact one makes and the legacy one leaves behind”.

According to the governor, the former deputy governor related peacefully with his people and was widely admired for his simplicity and humility.

“He lived peacefully among his people and related with everyone with simplicity and grace. He was not the kind of leader who distanced himself from others or made life difficult for those around him,” he added.

Oborevwori assured the Elue family of the continued support of the Delta State Government, stressing that the loss was not only personal to the family but a collective grief for the entire state.

Oborevwori said; “The pain is deep, not only for the family, but for the entire state. As painful as this loss is, we take solace in the fact that he passed on peacefully.

“This is a great loss, not just to the Elue family, but to the people of Aniocha North and to Delta State as a whole. We will remember him for his service, his humility and his peaceful life.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we stand firmly with you in this moment of profound grief”.

Signing the condolence register, Governor Oborevwori wrote: “We are saddened by the passing of His Excellency, Diokpa BSC Elue. He served Delta State with honour and integrity. Our prayers and thoughts are with the family during this period of mourning. Rest in peace, Alum”.

Responding on behalf of the family, Mr Paul Oseji, expressed profound gratitude to the governor, the Delta State Government and all sympathisers for their overwhelming show of love and support.

Oseji said: “I speak on behalf of the B. S. Elue family, the extended Elue dynasty, and we sincerely thank the Governor the people of Aniocha North, friends and associates from far and near, and the good people of Delta State for standing with us at this difficult time.

“This house has truly become a Mecca of a sort since on Saturday. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has visited, called, prayed for us, and paid condolence visits. Your presence and kind words have strengthened us immensely”.

Oseji appealed for continued prayers for the family as they navigate their period of mourning.

Chief Benjamin Elue served Delta State with exceptional distinction as Deputy Governor during the administration of Governor James Onanefe Ibori from 1999 to 2007, and is fondly remembered as an accomplished statesman whose life and public service were defined by humility, unwavering commitment, and a deep devotion to peace.

Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS Moves to Boost Enforcement of Judgments with High-Level Talks in Republic of Guinea

The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS will hold a high-level bilateral meeting in the Republic of Guinea from March 2 to 4, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen the enforcement of its judgments across Member States.

The three-day engagement, organised in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States, is expected to bring together the Court’s delegation, Guinea’s Competent National Authority (CNA), senior government officials, and representatives of civil society to address persistent challenges in implementing the Court’s rulings.

At the heart of the meeting is the push to close the gap between judicial decisions and their execution at the national level. While the ECOWAS Court continues to deliver landmark judgments on human rights, governance, and community law, enforcement remains a critical concern in several jurisdictions. The Guinea dialogue is aimed at building a more effective, coordinated, and transparent enforcement framework.

Discussions will focus on practical strategies to improve compliance rates, streamline procedures, and strengthen collaboration between national institutions and the regional court. Participants are expected to review existing bottlenecks, share best practices, and identify sustainable solutions that can enhance uniformity in enforcement mechanisms across the sub-region.

The programme will include a dedicated forum examining the current status of enforcement of the Court’s judgments in Guinea, alongside presentations on the Court’s enforcement processes and the national legal landscape. Civil society organisations will also engage directly with the Court in a bilateral dialogue designed to promote accountability and inclusive participation.

Beyond the technical sessions, the Court’s delegation will pay courtesy visits to key government figures, including the Minister in charge of ECOWAS Affairs, the Minister of Justice, the Minister of Finance, the President of the Supreme Court, and the Speaker of Parliament. Meetings are also scheduled with the Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission and the President of the Bar Association.

The delegation will be led by the President of the Court, Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, and will include Vice-President Sengu Mohamed Koroma, Honourable Justice Gberi-Bè Ouattara, as well as directors and other officials.

Similar bilateral meetings have previously taken place in the Republic of Sierra Leone and the Federal Republic of Nigeria, reflecting the Court’s broader strategy to institutionalise cooperation and reinforce the authority of its judgments throughout West Africa.

As ECOWAS marks five decades of regional integration, the Guinea engagement signals a renewed determination to ensure that the decisions of its judicial arm are not only pronounced but fully implemented—strengthening the rule of law and deepening trust in regional justice systems.

Governor Oborevwori described the late elder statesman as a loyal patriot, seasoned administrator and committed party man whose contributions to the growth and stability of Delta State would remain indelible in the annals of its history.

Chief Elue served as Deputy Governor to former Governor James Ibori between 1999 and 2007.

During his time in office, he was known for his humility, dedication to duty and unwavering loyalty to the administration he served.

Governor Oborevwori in a condolence message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, said the news of Elue’s death was received with shock and pain but with gratitude to God for a fulfilled life of service to Delta State and Nigeria.

He noted that the late former Deputy Governor was not only a distinguished politician but also a renowned teacher who devoted his life to mentoring younger generations.

Oborevwori said Elue’s calm disposition, wisdom and commitment to unity helped to strengthen democratic governance in the state, particularly in the early years of the Fourth Republic.

The Governor further recalled Elue’s steadfast commitment to the unity and peace in Delta State, as well as his immense contributions to the development of the state.

“Chief Benjamin Elue was a man of honour and integrity who served our dear state with passion and loyalty. His invaluable service to Delta and its citizens will remain evergreen,” the Governor said.

He added that the late octogenarian’s exemplary life and outstanding accomplishments, especially as Deputy Governor, earned him widespread respect across political divides.

Governor Oborevwori extended heartfelt condolences to the Elue family, the people of Aniocha North, Delta North Senatorial District, and Delta State, over the irreparable loss.

He prayed that Almighty God would grant the departed elder statesman eternal rest and give his family and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.

Don’t Allow Division Define Us, Oborevwori Tells Politicians At Nwaoboshi’s Funeral

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday urged political leaders to remain united and rise above bitterness and rivalry, maintaining that Nigeria’s advancement depends on cooperation, mutual respect, and collective responsibility.

Speaking at the Funeral Mass of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi held at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Ibusa, Governor Oborevwori, said the life and passing of Senator Nwaoboshi should remind leaders at all levels that public office is a sacred trust, entrusted by God and the people for the common good of the nation.

Eminent Nigerians from across political, ethnic and religious divides gathered at Ibusa to honour the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.

He said: “Power is transient. Positions are temporary. But the legacy of service endures. Let us learn from this solemn moment. Let us govern with humility. Let us engage one another with respect. Let us remember that history will judge us not by titles held, but by lives touched”.

He called for peace and purposeful collaboration, noting that national development can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity.

“When we are united, there is strength. When we cooperate, there is progress. But when we allow division to define us, we weaken the moral foundation upon which we stand. Nigeria must always come first,” he emphasized.

Governor Oborevwori reassured Deltans that his administration remains committed to inclusive development, responsible governance, and policies that uplift the people.

“To the children and family of our departed brother, let his name remain your badge of honour. Let his legacy inspire excellence, integrity, and patriotism. His service to Delta State and Nigeria will not be forgotten,” he added.

Oborevwori said life and death remain in the hands of Almighty God, adding that true greatness is measured not by the length of years, but by the depth of impact. “What matters most is not how long we live, but how well we serve humanity and our nation,” he said.

Continuing, he said: “We are gathered in this sacred sanctuary not only to mourn a distinguished son of Delta State, but to reflect deeply on the kind of nation we are building.

“The life of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi challenges us to place service above self, unity above division, and country above personal ambition.”

Citing John 11:25 — “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he may die, yet shall he live”, the Governor emphasized the Christian hope of eternal life, noting that Nigerians must draw strength from faith even in moments of national reflection.

“We do not grieve as those without hope. We commend our brother to the Almighty, trusting in His promise of resurrection and everlasting peace. But as we pray for him, we must also renew our commitment to the ideals he stood for, courage, representation, and dedication to his people”, he said.

Describing Senator Nwaoboshi as a bridge-builder and patriot, Oborevwori said his contributions transcended political affiliations and strengthened democratic governance in Nigeria.

“He was not just a political figure; he was a servant of the people and a firm believer in Nigeria’s unity and progress. Indeed, the memory of the righteous is a blessing,” the Governor stated.

In his homily, the Vicar-General of the Catholic Diocese of Issele-Uku, Very Rev. Fr. Peter Mobuogwu, preached on hope, accountability, and divine justice. Drawing from the experience of the Israelites in exile, he reminded the faithful that God remains present even in seasons of uncertainty.

Quoting the Book of Wisdom, he affirmed: “The souls of the righteous are in the hands of God.”

“Time is not in our hands; it is in God’s hands. Let us live and serve in such a way that we may hear, ‘Welcome, good and faithful servant,” he said.

The Funeral Mass drew a distinguished gathering of national figures, underscoring the enduring influence of the late Senator. Among those present were the Governor’s wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori; Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme; former Senate President Senator Ahmad Lawan; former Governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa; former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege; former Deputy Governor Deacon Kingsley Otuaro; and numerous federal and state lawmakers.

The governor made the assertion on Thursday at the grand homecoming reception held in honour of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, at the palace of the Olu of Warri.

Addressing a jubilant crowd that thronged the palace grounds as early as 7 a.m., Oborevwori praised Senator Tinubu’s impactful tenure in the Senate, noting that she consistently stood tall in the Red Chambers and invested her time and energy in policy advocacy that positively affected Nigerians.

He joined the Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III,  in celebrating the First Lady, whom he described as a worthy daughter of the Itsekiri nation with an outstanding record of public service.

Governor Oborevwori said: “We can all attest to how she stood firm during her time in the Senate. Nigerians are blessed to have a humble and compassionate First Lady who genuinely cares for the poor and vulnerable in our communities”.

The governor highlighted that the visit marked Senator Tinubu’s third official visit to Delta State within two years. He recalled her August 2024 visit to flag off the Renewed Hope Initiative empowerment programme for the South-South in Asaba and her March 2025 visit to launch the Free to Shine programme, during which 10,000 professional kits were distributed to midwives across the region as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery.

He particularly commended the First Lady’s respect for traditional institutions, recalling how, during a previous visit, she made it a point to honour royal fathers outside the formal programme schedule.

“That singular act of love and respect made a lot of things easier for me as governor. Even when we were in the opposition, she showed us love. God will continue to bless you,” Oborevwori said.

The governor also lauded Senator Tinubu’s international recognition, referencing her participation at the 4th National Prayer Congress in the United States, where she was publicly acknowledged as a highly respected woman.

“It is fitting to call you a global icon. We are proud of the way you represented Nigeria on the global stage,” he added.

Reaffirming Delta State’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his reforms, Oborevwori who joined his wife, Deaconess Tobore to receive Senator Oluremi Tinubu at the Osubi Airport, assured the First Lady that the state would continue to align with the Renewed Hope Agenda for a better Nigeria.

“Please tell our leader, Mr. President, that Delta State stands firmly with him and his reforms for a better nation. You can always count on our support,” he said.

The governor also used the occasion to outline ongoing infrastructural strides in Warri and its environs, including the completion of the over 20-kilometre Trans-Warri Road with 15 bridges, as well as the completion of the Enerhen flyover built by Julius Berger, with an assurance of further extensions planned towards the Nigerian Ports Authority corridor.

In her remarks, Senator Oluremi Tinubu expressed deep emotion at the reception and cultural displays, describing her visit to Warri as a homecoming filled with gratitude and pride.

She thanked the Olu of Warri for the honour bestowed on her, noting that special considerations were made to accommodate her within the traditional framework. She described her Itsekiri heritage as foundational to her values and public life.

Reflecting on national unity, the First Lady pointed to the coincidental alignment of the Christian Lenten season and the Muslim fasting period as a sign of God’s call for togetherness, citing Psalm 133 and urging Nigerians to embrace unity beyond ethnic and religious divides.

As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative, Senator Tinubu announced a N50 million empowerment support package for 1,000 women engaged in petty trading in the kingdom and pledged additional support for young men in collaboration with the state government.

Earlier, the Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, described the First Lady’s visit as divinely ordained and symbolic of a new season of unity, healing, and alignment for the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large.

He noted that the honour conferred on her reflected God’s unique plan and praised her humility, grace, and unwavering support for her husband, President Tinubu.

The monarch assured her of the kingdom’s prayers and support while presenting sealed requests on behalf of the people.

The colourful reception drew prominent dignitaries, including Immediate past Governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, Hon. Thomas Ereyitomi, Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, and other top government officials and traditional leaders.

The Commissioner in charge of the Directorate for Riverine Infrastructure Development, Chief Ebikeme Clark, has affirmed that Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, remains firmly and irrevocably committed to the development of riverine communities.

Chief Clark made the assertion during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Warri North and Warri South-West Local Government Areas, reaffirming that the Oborevwori administration remains determined to deliver meaningful infrastructure to riverine areas under the MORE Agenda.

The projects inspected include the 3.1-kilometre road linking Kolokolo and Tisun communities in Warri North LGA and the Oporoza Model Secondary School in Warri South-West LGA.

The commissioner was accompanied by engineers from the directorate, representatives of Ocean Explorers Nigeria Limited the construction firm handling the road project as well as leaders of the benefiting communities.

Addressing stakeholders during the visit, Chief Clark emphasized that Governor Oborevwori is resolute in ensuring that residents of riverine communities enjoy the same quality of infrastructure available in urban centres, despite the challenges posed by the creek terrain.

“This is the deep creek of Delta State. Some people believed nothing tangible could be achieved here because of the terrain. But for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, terrain is not a limitation. He has proven his capacity in urban areas and is replicating the same standards in riverine communities. He is breaking the jinx,” Clark stated.

He noted that the Kolokolo–Tisun road project was awarded to a competent contractor to ensure durability and high standards, stressing that the state government would not condone substandard execution of any project.

The Commissioner commended the contractor for the significant progress recorded and the quality of work delivered so far, despite prevailing environmental challenges.

He noted that the contractor handling the Oporoza project has demonstrated commendable competence and capacity, but is being considerably constrained by the difficult terrain.

He also lauded the host communities for their peaceful cooperation, describing it as essential for the timely completion of development projects.

In his remarks, the General Manager of Ocean Explorers Nigeria Limited, Amb. Muobor Krubu, disclosed that the 3.1-kilometre road contract was awarded in September 2025 and is scheduled for completion within twelve months.

He assured that the company remains committed to delivering the project within the stipulated timeline and praised the host communities for their support and understanding.

Community leaders, including the Chairman of Kolokolo Community, Mr. Gabriel Tetsola; the Secretary of Tisun Community, Mr. Frederick Kuke; the Chairman of Oporoza Community, Mr. Emmanuel Ebi; and Chief Demebi Izirimi, expressed profound appreciation to the Delta State Government.

They described the projects as the most significant development interventions ever witnessed in their communities and pledged continued loyalty and support to Governor Oborevwori’s administration.

The Oporoza Model Secondary School, when completed, will comprise male and female hostels, staff quarters, a well-equipped library, science laboratories, administrative offices, and other modern facilities designed to enhance teaching and learning.

The inspection tour further highlights the Oborevwori administration’s resolve to bridge infrastructural gaps and promote balanced, inclusive development across all parts of Delta State.

2027: Supporting Ned Nwoko is Supporting a Generational Vision for Delta North

0

The destiny of Delta North stands at a defining crossroads. This is not merely another electoral cycle; it is a moment that will determine whether the region deepens its progress or drifts back into the shadows of political control and recycled ambition. The choice before the people is clear: consolidate courageous leadership or return to structures that stifle independence and dilute the people’s voice.

‎By Chidi chukwutem

‎Re-electing Prince Ned Nwoko represents far more than renewing a mandate. It represents a collective decision to protect the political will of Delta North from the grip of godfatherism. For too long, unseen forces have dictated outcomes behind closed doors, prioritizing personal influence over public interest.

‎Senator Ned Nwoko has stood as a symbol of resistance to that system, a leader whose legitimacy flows from the people, not from political patrons. Returning him to the Senate is a powerful statement that Delta North belongs to its citizens, not to entrenched power brokers.

‎At the heart of his representation lies a cause that transcends politics, the creation of Anioma State. This is not a rhetorical aspiration but a historic demand rooted in identity, fairness, and equitable development.

‎The pursuit of Anioma State speaks to the desire for stronger representation, administrative balance, and accelerated growth tailored to the unique needs of the region. Senator Ned’s visible commitment to this objective demonstrates strategic clarity and long-term thinking. Supporting him is supporting a generational vision.

‎His understanding of development is equally grounded in the transformative power of education. Sustainable progress is not built on slogans; it is built in classrooms, in scholarship opportunities, and in deliberate investment in human capital. By prioritizing education, he acknowledges that empowerment, economic strength, and regional competitiveness all begin with knowledge. A leader who invests in minds invests in the future.

‎Beyond policy, there is character. Leadership is not only about influence in the chamber; it is about connection to the people. Senator Nwoko reflects the welcoming, resilient, and progressive spirit of Anioma. His accessibility and engagement reinforce a bond of trust that is increasingly rare in public office. Representation must feel present, and under his watch, Delta North has not been voiceless.

‎In the National Assembly, influence matters. Negotiation, advocacy, and legislative effectiveness determine whether a constituency’s priorities are realized or sidelined. With legal expertise, political experience, and a strong network, Senator Nwoko carries Delta North’s interests with weight and credibility. He does not merely occupy a seat; he commands attention. Regions advance when their representatives are respected, strategic, and assertive.

‎What distinguishes him further is vision. While many leaders react to immediate pressures, he approaches governance with foresight. His legislative focus reveals an understanding that the prosperity of tomorrow is shaped by the decisions of today. Infrastructure, institutional reform, and structural development require patience, creativity, and resolve. These are qualities he has consistently demonstrated.

‎Delta North must now decide whether to retreat into familiar patterns of political dependency or to move forward with confidence and conviction. Upholding the integrity of the original APC structure and returning Prince Ned Nwoko to the Senate is not simply an endorsement of one individual, it is a declaration of political maturity and self-determination.

‎The future will favor regions that defend their autonomy, invest in visionary leadership, and refuse to surrender their voice. Delta North has the opportunity to affirm its strength, protect its aspirations, and choose continuity in progress. The moment calls for clarity, courage, and unity, and the path forward is unmistakable.

Nigeria’s Support Against US Blockade Vital, Says Cuban Ambassador

0

The Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Miriam Morales Palmero, has commended Nigeria and the African Union for their consistent opposition to the decades-long United States economic blockade against Cuba, describing the sanctions regime as an “unjust system of coercion” that has inflicted prolonged hardship on the Cuban people.

Speaking at the Conference of the Solidarity Movement with Cuba in Nigeria, Palmero expressed gratitude for Nigeria’s repeated votes at the United Nations General Assembly in favour of resolutions calling for an end to the US embargo.

“Nigeria is one of the countries which has voted at the United Nations General Assembly in favour of the resolution against the economic, commercial and financial blockade,” she said. “We highly value Nigeria’s support.”

She also acknowledged what she described as the historic stance of the African Union, particularly its recent resolution condemning the US blockade policy and Cuba’s inclusion on the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The ambassador characterised the US embargo as more than a bilateral dispute, calling it “a deliberate policy of asphyxiation” designed to force political surrender through economic deprivation.

“For more than six decades, Cuba has faced one of the most prolonged and unjust systems of economic, commercial and financial coercion in contemporary history,” she said.

Palmero criticised a recent executive order signed by US President Donald Trump which, she said, threatens sanctions against countries that supply fuel to Cuba. She described the move as extraterritorial and a violation of international law.

According to her, the measures are intended to worsen shortages in energy, nutrition, healthcare, education and transportation, while exerting pressure on other nations to limit cooperation with Cuba.

“We do not accept threats. We do not accept blackmail. We do not accept interference,” she declared.

Despite economic difficulties, the ambassador maintained that Cuba has consistently extended assistance to other nations, particularly in healthcare and education.

She highlighted Cuba’s long-standing medical diplomacy, noting that Cuban doctors, teachers and technical experts have served in dozens of countries, including Nigeria.

“Cuba represents no threat whatsoever to any country,” Palmero said. “Our foreign policy is one of solidarity, peace, friendship and cooperation, fully committed to international law and the United Nations Charter.”

She described it as “inconceivable” that the world’s largest economic and military power would consider Cuba a threat.

Beyond condemning the blockade, the ambassador used the conference to call for a stronger and more structured Solidarity Movement with Cuba in Nigeria.

She urged trade unions, academic institutions, youth groups, community organisations and media platforms to amplify advocacy efforts in support of Cuba, especially as sanctions intensify.

“This meeting is not only an expression of political and moral support,” she said. “It is a strategic moment to strengthen the structure of the Solidarity Movement with Cuba in Nigeria.”

Palmero encouraged participants to develop a coordinated action plan that would increase mobilisation, communication and public engagement throughout the year.

The ambassador reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to sovereignty and its chosen social model, insisting that the country would not bow to external pressure.

“We know that the Cuban people are not alone,” she said. “Cuba will never renounce its independence.”

She declared that: “Because justice cannot be blockaded. Because dignity cannot be sentenced. Because solidarity is stronger than any coercive measure.”

The conference brought together members of Nigeria’s solidarity movement, trade union representatives, Cuban-trained graduates and supporters of Cuba–Nigeria relations, underscoring the longstanding diplomatic ties between both nations.

In a statement issued in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori described Majemite as an illustrious son of Delta State whose life has been defined by remarkable accomplishments in public service, law, business and philanthropy.

The Governor noted that Majemite, a former Commissioner for Lands, Surveys and Urban Development in Delta State, distinguished himself during his tenure in office through dedication, professionalism and an unwavering commitment to the growth and development of the state.

According to him, Chief Majemite has consistently given a good account of himself both in and out of government, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues, associates, and people across Delta and beyond.

The Governor said: “On behalf of my family, the Government and people of Delta State, I congratulate my dear brother and friend, Chief Fred Okiemute Majemite, on the occasion of his 62nd birth anniversary.

Oborevwori Committed ₦8bn to Link Hinterland Communities, Says Izeze

0

The Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has said that the ongoing reconstruction of the Uzere–Asaba–Ase Road and associated bridge works underscores Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to inclusive development across the state.

Speaking on Tuesday during an inspection of the project in Isoko South Local Government Area, Izeze described the initiative as a bold intervention valued at about ₦8 billion, aimed at linking hinterland communities and easing the movement of people and agricultural produce.

“This project confirms to you, to the people here, and to Deltans in particular and indeed to everyone that this Governor is truly an unusual leader,” he said.

“For some of you, this may be your first time visiting this part of Delta State. You can imagine a Governor who is willing to commit about ₦8 billion to ensure that communities in the hinterlands are properly linked together.”

The commissioner who was accompanied by the Functioning Permanent Secretary Engr. Solomon Aghagba and top officials in the Ministry, noted that the decision to undertake the project was informed by the challenges faced by rural dwellers, particularly women who struggle daily to transport farm produce across difficult terrain.

“We have been on ground and you have witnessed women carrying their farm produce, some of them struggling to move goods from one end to another. Without considering the needs of these people, we would not be able to undertake projects of this magnitude,” he stated.

According to Izeze, Governor Oborevwori considers the project essential to his administration’s vision of equitable governance.

“When he says he is a Governor for all, he does not mean a Governor for particular tribes. He means a Governor for every person domiciled within the geographical space called Delta State,” he added.

The project, currently at over 60 per cent completion, involves the reconstruction of failed culverts and rehabilitation of failed sections along the 4.35-kilometre road. It also includes the construction of a new 100-span bridge comprising an 80-metre main span and an additional 20-metre span across swampy terrain.

Izeze disclosed that the contractor had encountered some challenges and requested an on-the-spot assessment by the Ministry to enable it proceed in line with the amended contract provisions.

He said that after reviewing the issues alongside the Acting Permanent Secretary, the Ministry directed the contractor to continue strictly in accordance with the approved design, stressing that there would be no further adjustments.

However, the commissioner raised concerns over alleged attempts by a family in the area to impede the project.

“I would like this noted and reported properly, the Urie family of Uzere who, perhaps out of ignorance, have attempted to impede the progress of this project,” he said, appealing to them to desist in the interest of the community and the state at large.

He urged the family to cooperate with the authorities, noting that the management of the construction firm would engage them, while the Local Government Chairman and Chief Security Officer had been duly informed.

“Delta State is governed by law. We will not degenerate into a state of lawlessness. The Private Property and Public Property Protection Law of Delta State is very clear: no individual, group, or community has the right to impede the development of any property,” Izeze warned, adding that offenders risk a jail term of three years or more, with or without the option of a fine, depending on the court’s discretion.

“There is a new Sheriff in town, and under this Sheriff, anyone who behaves unlawfully will face the consequences of their actions,” he said.

A representative of the contracting firm, LEBTECH Construction Limited, Mr. Roni Karam, expressed optimism that the project would be completed by April 2027.

“As you can see, work is progressing steadily. By the end of April, by the grace of God, the project should be completed,” he said.

A project brief issued by the Ministry of Works’ Department of Highways in Asaba in February 2026 indicates that the original contract sums are ₦4,944,550,766.14 and ₦3,165,562,579.99. The contracts were awarded on January 8, 2025, to LEBTECH Construction Limited.

The scope of work includes scarification and removal of unsuitable materials, sharp sand filling, and the placement of boulders over a 1,300-metre stretch due to swampy terrain, as well as crushed stone layering.

Other components comprise grassing for abutment protection, installation of relief culverts, crushed stone base works, and rehabilitation of failed sections with a 50mm binder course.

So far, all piling works, pile caps, and piers have been completed. Out of 35 longitudinal beams required, 32 have been completed, while one abutment wall has been delivered and casting of the second is pending.

Upon completion, the reconstruction is expected to significantly improve connectivity and address long-standing transportation challenges along the Uzere–Asaba–Ase corridor, boosting economic activities and enhancing the quality of life for residents in Isoko South and adjoining communities.

Oborevwori’s Performance Already Settling 2027 Debate in Delta — Aniagwu

0

The Delta State Government has said that the scale, spread and impact of projects executed under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori have firmly positioned him ahead of future electoral contests.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, stated that the administration’s visible achievements across the state are speaking louder than campaign rhetoric.

Aniagwu made the remarks during an interview on “Politics Tonight” on TVC, where he outlined what he described as sweeping accomplishments in infrastructure, security, fiscal management and rural development under the Oborevwori administration.

According to him, the governor has continued to push ahead with major infrastructure projects, including road construction, bridge development, expansion of educational and health facilities, and sustained investment in human capital development.

“The election is not stopping him; campaigns are not stopping him in any way. He is progressing very speedily and steadily with the promises he made,” Aniagwu said, noting that projects are being executed across the three senatorial districts.

He identified improved security as one of the administration’s most significant achievements in nearly three years, stressing that the prevailing peace in the state has boosted investor confidence.

“One major achievement is the security of lives and property across Delta. That is why investors are coming in. We have demonstrated that Delta can be peaceful and safe,” he stated.

Providing updates on key projects, Aniagwu said top construction firms, including Julius Berger, are handling several landmark developments.

Beyond the three major bridges in Warri and its environs, the DSC Roundabout Bridge, Enerhen Junction Bridge, PTI Junction Bridge and the slipway at Effurun Roundabout, he disclosed that additional projects have been awarded to the company.

These include works at Uromi Junction in Agbor (Ika South Local Government Area), another at Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli (Ughelli North), and road expansions towards the Nigerian Ports Authority axis.

He added that the DSC Roundabout and Enerhen Junction bridges are already in use, while the PTI Junction Bridge is nearing completion.

The commissioner also highlighted the completion of the 137-kilometre stretch from Koka Junction in Asaba to Ughelli, which has reduced travel time to Warri to about one hour and fifty minutes.

Other ongoing projects, he said, include the over 30-kilometre Ohoror–Bomadi Road, the Aboh–Akarai Road and Bridge in Ndokwa East valued at nearly N30 billion, and the completion of 15 bridges and access roads in riverine communities in Ode Itsekiri.

He noted that reputable firms such as CCECC and Levant Construction are equally executing projects across the state.

Aniagwu explained that the creation of the Ministry of Works (Rural Roads) and the Directorate of Riverine Infrastructure was designed to accelerate development in rural and riverine communities, alongside interventions by DESOPADEC.

On equitable distribution of projects, he revealed that the governor introduced a policy of allocating specific funds to each of the 25 local government areas. In the 2024 budget, N1 billion was earmarked per local government, amounting to N25 billion statewide. This was increased to N2.1 billion per local government in 2025.

For the 2026 fiscal year, he said the allocation was raised to N3 billion per local government, with an additional N4 billion intervention fund per council, bringing the total to N7 billion per local government.

“There is no single state with that kind of specific provision for their local governments,” Aniagwu asserted, adding that these allocations are separate from other sectoral budgetary provisions.

To guarantee quality and durability, he said the governor personally inspects projects while strict compliance with engineering specifications is enforced.

He added that the administration introduced a whistleblower policy, enabling residents to report substandard work directly to the governor through a dedicated WhatsApp line.

“The number is managed by the governor himself. Citizens send information, and action is taken immediately. Contractors are queried where necessary,” he said.

Aniagwu also recalled that the government banned indiscriminate mixing of concrete on tarred roads and pavements to prevent structural damage and ensure longevity.

Beyond road infrastructure, he highlighted efforts in erosion control, flood mitigation and environmental management through the construction of storm drainage systems in urban centres such as Asaba and Warri. Beautification initiatives, tree planting and installation of solar-powered streetlights across major and inner roads have also improved security and aesthetics, he added.

On federal collaboration, Aniagwu commended the Federal Government for ongoing works on the access roads to the Second Niger Bridge and the Benin–Asaba corridor, including concrete pavement construction between the Head Bridge and Summit Junction. He said progress is also evident from the Benin axis towards Sapele.

Addressing the blue economy initiative, he disclosed that the state government has opened access to the River Niger corridor near Government House, Asaba, with a dual carriageway leading to the riverbank as part of broader economic expansion efforts.

Aniagwu maintained that prudent resource management has kept Delta financially stable. “We are solvent not because we receive more than other states, but because we manage our resources judiciously and deliver results,” he said.

He expressed confidence that Governor Oborevwori’s performance would ultimately determine voter decisions, insisting that the administration remains on a strong footing with development visible across the length and breadth of the state.

NOA DG Calls on Nigerians to Embrace National Unity as Lent, Ramadan Commence

The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on Nigerians to use the Ramadan and Lent seasons which kicked off on the same day as an opportunity to embrace national unity and foster peaceful coexistence across the country.

According to him, the convergence of these significant religious seasons presents a unique moment for citizens to reflect on shared values and work collectively toward national cohesion, peace, and progress.

Issa-Onilu, in a statement made available to Radio Nigeria, urged both Muslims and Christians to embrace the duty of care by being their brothers’ keepers, stressing that the values of compassion and selfless service inherent in both Ramadan and Lent should inspire us to look out for one another regardless of religious affiliation.

The DG enjoined Nigerians to use the spiritual significance of the period to pray for the government, particularly in its ongoing efforts to tackle the nation’s security challenges.

Meanwhile, Catholic faithful in Asaba turned out in their large numbers to observe Ash Wednesday marking the commencement of the Lenten season characterized with forty days prayers, fasting and alms giving.

At SS Joachim and Anne Oratory , Catholic Diocese of Issele Uku Church, hundreds of worshippers in sober reflection received ash on their foreheads.

The Catholic faithful who were full of thanks for keeping them alive to observe the Ash Wednesday, expressed their preparedness to follow the footsteps of Jesus.

The Catholic Priest, the Reverend Father Christopher Ubah told the worshippers that the ash is a reminder that they are dust and unto dust shall they return.

He urged them to use the Lenten season to rededicate and commit themselves to the service of God , and give alms to the less privileged ones.

Reverend Father Christopher explained that the ash was an external sign of interior conversion, a willingness to begin with God afresh, and walk in the light of Jesus.

The Catholic Priest admonished Christians, and other Nigerians to do what is right and eschew evil as exemplified by Jesus, the sin of God.

He stated further, ”It’s an external sign of interior conversion, a willingness to begin with God afresh, and walk in the light of Jesus. Let it be another opportunity for complete renewal of the spirit , to do what is right and eschew what is evil”.

Delta North 2026 UTME beneficiaries praise Senator Ned Nwoko

One Thousand five hundred students across Delta North senatorial district are expressing gratitude and renewed hope following Senator Ned Nwoko’s sponsorship of their 2026 UTME registration fees, describing the programme as a critical lifeline that has lifted a major financial burden from their families.

The beneficiaries, numbering 1,500 and spread across the nine local government areas of the district, say the free registration support has not only removed cost barriers but also strengthened their determination to pursue university admission with confidence.

The examination is conducted nationwide by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, and registration fees are often a challenge for low- and middle-income households, especially where multiple children are preparing for tertiary entrance exams at the same time.

A Big Relief for Our Families — Students Speak

Students interviewed from different parts of Delta North consistently described the sponsorship as timely and impactful.

Ike Esther from Ika North East said the support came at a crucial moment for her household. According to her, her parents had been weighing several urgent financial needs alongside her exam registration.

“This has taken a heavy load off my parents. Now I can focus fully on studying instead of worrying about whether I would even be able to register,” she said.

Moses Peters and Chukwuyem Dorcas, both from Ika South, shared similar sentiments, noting that the intervention changed their outlook on the admission process.

They said the gesture reassured them that their educational ambitions are recognized and supported at the constituency level.

Ossai Success from Ukwuani described the programme as a motivation boost. “When support like this comes, it makes you feel responsible to give your best.

“Someone believes in your future, so you have to work hard to justify it,” she said.

Favour Nwoko from Aniocha North added that beyond the financial help, the initiative sends a strong message about the value placed on youth education in the district.

Equal Reach Across Delta North Communities

Beneficiaries were selected across Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ika North East, Ika South, Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East, Oshimili North, Oshimili South, and Ukwuani, ensuring that students from both urban and rural communities gained access to the programme.

Several students noted that candidates in riverine and interior communities often face added obstacles, including transport and information gaps, and said the coordinated registration exercise helped close that gap.

Participants reported that the registration process in their areas was orderly and well-coordinated, allowing students to complete their applications without stress or extra unofficial charges.

More Than a Fee Payment — A Confidence Builder

Many of the beneficiaries stressed that the programme’s biggest impact goes beyond the payment itself. They described it as an emotional and psychological boost at a defining stage of their academic journey.

Some said they had considered postponing their UTME attempt due to financial uncertainty. With the fees covered, they are now proceeding with their original timelines for admission into universities and polytechnics.

Parents and guardians, according to the students, have also reacted with relief and appreciation, seeing the intervention as direct support for household educational advancement.

Renewed Focus on Performance

With registration secured, beneficiaries say their attention has shifted fully to preparation. Study groups and peer-reading circles are already forming in some communities among supported candidates, with students encouraging one another to make strong scores.

“We have been given an opportunity,” one beneficiary said. “The best way to show appreciation is to pass well and gain admission.”

Across Delta North, the mood among the sponsored candidates is largely one of gratitude mixed with determination, a sense that a door has been opened, and it is now up to them to walk through it with discipline and hard work.

Prior to this good gesture of the Senator, he had earlier granted scholarship to 90 students of Delta North origin to study courses of their choice at the Sports University of Nigeria in Idumuje Ugboko. *PETERSON SPLASHES ₦2M, FUNDS MASTERS TO PhD SCHOLARSHIPS AT UNIDEL CONVOCATION* By Ewere Okonta 08037383019 eobnewsmedia@gmail.com www.ewereokontablog.org.ng History was made at the maiden convocation ceremony of the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, as Dr. Donald Peterson, through his D-Peterson Foundation, turned what was already a moment of academic glory into a life-changing celebration of excellence. From the roll call of graduates to the applause that echoed across the convocation arena, one name rang louder than most, Dr. Donald Peterson. And not without reason. Long before the first convocation gown was sewn, Dr. Peterson had set the tone. He became the first individual to institute a ₦2 million endowment fund in honour of outstanding graduating students of UNIDEL. It was not a promise whispered in private; it was a bold commitment to reward excellence and inspire a culture of academic distinction. The breakdown of the fund was both deliberate and visionary: • ₦1,000,000 for the Overall Best Graduating Student with a First Class. • ₦250,000 each for the Overall Best Graduating First Class Students in Business Administration, Economics, History and International Studies, and Computer Science. However, Computer Science did not meet the eligibility requirements for the award this year, and as such, no allocation was made to that department; a clear message that excellence is rewarded, not assumed. Cheques, Cheers and Changing Destinies Yesterday, at the convocation ground, Dr. Peterson demonstrated that his philanthropy is not mere rhetoric. It is action. It is impact. It is transformation. Emerging as the Overall Best Graduating Student of the University was Uzoma Victoria Ifunanya. As if that wasn’t remarkable enough, she also clinched the Best Graduating Student in the Department of Business Administration. For her double feat, she received a total cheque of ₦1,250,000; ₦1 million as the overall best, and ₦250,000 as the departmental best. The applause that followed was thunderous. It was not just about the money; it was about recognition. It was about honouring hard work in a society that sometimes overlooks it. From the Department of Economics, Ologun Temitope Maria went home with ₦250,000 as the Best Graduating Student in her department. From History and International Studies, Ugherughe Precious Edafe also received ₦250,000 for her academic brilliance. Each cheque carried more than naira notes; it carried hope, validation, and a powerful message; that UNIDEL rewards excellence, and that Dr. Peterson stands solidly behind that principle. From Masters to PhD; A Scholarship That Changes Everything But Dr. Peterson was not done. In what many described as a “Peterson twist,” classy and classic, he went beyond the cash prizes. He announced a scholarship sponsorship for Uzoma Victoria Ifunanya, covering her academic journey from Master’s degree through to PhD level. The convocation ground erupted again. Yet, fate had one more dramatic layer. The Best Graduating Student with First Class in the Department of Software Engineering, Uzoma Ruth Chinenye, who is incidentally a direct sibling to Uzoma Victoria Ifunanya, was also awarded a full scholarship from Master’s degree to PhD level. Two sisters. Two scholars. Two destinies lifted at once. That is vintage Peterson. This was not just philanthropy; it was strategic nation-building. It was an investment in human capital. It was a statement that education remains the most powerful tool for societal transformation. A Foundation Rooted in Humanity Through the D-Peterson Foundation, Dr. Donald Peterson has consistently demonstrated that impact is not measured by noise but by lives touched. His interventions in education, social development, and youth empowerment continue to reshape narratives, particularly in Ika Nation and beyond. At the convocation, the beneficiaries were visibly emotional. They poured out praises for Dr. Peterson and members of his Foundation, describing the gesture as life-changing. For many families present, the scholarships represented relief, opportunity, and the assurance that brilliance will not be buried by financial constraints. In an era where conversations often revolve around what is wrong with society, Dr. Peterson is choosing to focus on what can be made right. UNIDEL’s first convocation will be remembered for academic milestones, but more importantly, it will be remembered as the day philanthropy met excellence on a grand stage. And at the center of it all stood Dr. Donald Peterson; not just as a donor, but as a believer in dreams, a builder of futures, and a man who understands that when you reward excellence, you reproduce it. Indeed, at UNIDEL, Peterson did not just splash ₦2 million. He invested in tomorrow. *Ewere Okonta is the CEO of EOB Media. He is a member of #TeamPeterson. UNIDEL Graduates 30 First-Class Students In Maiden Convocation …As Oborevwori Rewards Excellence, Approves Teaching Hospital

0

The University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL) on Saturday made history as it graduated its first set of students, including 30 First-Class graduates, at its maiden convocation ceremony, four years after the institution was established.

At the colourful ceremony, the Governor of Delta State and Visitor to the University, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, announced far-reaching incentives and policy decisions aimed at strengthening academic excellence at the young university.

The Governor disclosed that the Best Graduating Student would receive a ₦5 million cash award, while each First-Class graduate would be rewarded with ₦500,000, payable immediately.

He approved the request of the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof  Stella Chiemeke for the conversion of the Mother and Child Hospital, General Hospital, Agbor and Diagnostic Centre, Owa-Alero, into a University Teaching Hospital, a critical step toward full accreditation of UNIDEL’s medical programmes.  He also pledged the donation of a coaster bus to support the University’s transportation needs.

Describing the convocation as a watershed moment, the Governor said the ceremony symbolised more than the award of degrees, noting that it marked the triumph of vision, courage and purposeful leadership.

According to him, the establishment of UNIDEL and other state-owned universities, once criticised as a misplacement of priorities, has been fully vindicated by their growing enrolment and socio-economic impact.

Oborevwori said: “Today’s event celebrates a young institution that has moved decisively from conception to consolidation. Delta State now hosts well over 100,000 students across its tertiary institutions, stimulating job creation, commerce and service delivery in ways that were previously unimaginable.”

He paid tribute to his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, whose foresight led to the establishment of the University, and commended the Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council, Management, Senate and staff for nurturing UNIDEL into a fast-rising centre of learning.

Addressing the graduands, the Governor urged them to be bold, innovative and resilient, encouraging them to create opportunities rather than wait for them.

He reminded the pioneer graduands that they occupy a special place in UNIDEL’s history and must serve as worthy ambassadors of the institution.

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, disclosed that the University was presenting 1,606 graduates from seven faculties across the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions, all adjudged worthy in character and learning.

While disclosing that all graduating students would receive their certificates and transcripts on the convocation day, Prof. Chiemeke highlighted significant milestones recorded under the current administration, including full accreditation of all academic programmes by the National Universities Commission, strong international collaborations, improved infrastructure, enhanced campus security and growing global recognition.

She revealed that about 4,000 indigent students benefitted from loans under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund in the current academic session, easing financial pressure on families.

She added that despite that the university was still young, it ranked third best in Nigeria for sustainability and placed within the 801–1000 band globally in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, while over 180 academics featured in the 2026 AD Scientific Index.

Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Emeritus Prof. Emmanuel A. C. Nwanze, described the convocation as both a celebration and a moment of stock-taking, commending the resilience of staff and students and praising the Vice-Chancellor for her energy, clarity of purpose and hands-on leadership.

Earlier, the Governor was formally decorated as Visitor to the University in line with the enabling laws establishing the institution, and was thereafter honoured with the university award of recognition alongside 17 other eminent Nigerians.

Among the distinguished awardees were the immediate past Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa; the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly; the Chairman of Zenith Bank, Mr Jim Ovia; the Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Barr Chiedu Ebie; and the former Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Mr Chris Maiyaki, among others.

Speaking on behalf of other awardees at the maiden convocation ceremony, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa expressed profound appreciation to the Pro-Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, and the University Management for the honour conferred on them and for the visible progress recorded by the institution.

He commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he described as a key pillar of the vision that led to the establishment of three state-owned universities in 2021.

Okowa noted that the Governor’s sustained commitment and policy support have strengthened the universities, ensured stability, and widened access to higher education for thousands of young people across the state.

The overall graduating student, Victoria Uzoma, of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Department of Business Administration, who graduated with an outstanding Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.97, in an emotional reflection on her academic journey, attributed her exceptional feat to divine grace.

The projects commissioned include the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences Complex, named after the Governor; the Faculty of Environmental Sciences building; the Faculty of Engineering Lecture Hall and Workshops; a 500-seater central auditorium; and a fully equipped central library.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori described the event as a “harvest of projects” and a clear demonstration of his administration’s resolve to provide world-class learning facilities in Delta State institutions.

He noted that although his administration has been widely recognized for visible infrastructure such as flyovers, bridges and roads, significant investments have also been made in education and health sectors.

“Education remains the most powerful tool for transformation. When we invest in infrastructure, we invest in people. These facilities are designed to meet global standards and to foster innovation, research, entrepreneurship and practical skills development,” the governor said.

Oborevwori urged students of the institution to make optimal use of the facilities and guard against vandalism, emphasizing that discipline, creativity and integrity must guide their academic pursuits.

He said: “These facilities are for you. Protect them and use them responsibly. Our goal is to prepare you not just to seek jobs but to create them in a rapidly evolving, knowledge-driven world”.

The governor recalled his involvement in the establishment of the University of Delta and two other state universities during his tenure as Speaker of the  State House of Assembly.

He said the decision to create additional universities was informed by the limited admission quota approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the then Delta State University, Abraka, which left thousands of qualified students without placement annually.

“At a time, over 25,000 students were qualified for university admission, but only about 5,000 slots were approved. We had to act. Today, we can see that the vision is worthwhile,” he stated.

He commended the immediate past administration for initiating the university and appreciated the NUC and key officials who facilitated the approval process for the three universities established on the same day, describing it as a rare feat.

Governor Oborevwori also expressed gratitude to the university management for naming the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences Complex after him, describing the gesture as humbling and reassuring.

Former Governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, in his remarks, lauded Oborevwori’s leadership and continuity in strengthening the state’s higher education system.

He noted that the governor was part of the legislative process that birthed the three universities and has continued to consolidate on that foundation.

“Today, UNIDEL alone has about 15,000 students. Imagine if these young people were out on the streets without access to higher education. The peace we enjoy today is partly because we created opportunities for our youths,” Okowa said.

Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, said that the Sheriff Oborevwori Complex, which is housing the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, includes a 250-seater auditorium, lecture rooms, offices, a student resource centre and media facilities, was completed in 2025.

He disclosed that the Faculty of Environmental Sciences building, awarded in August 2021 and completed under the present administration, consists of two 250-seater auditoriums, four 80-capacity classrooms, studios, staff offices, a faculty library and a 150-capacity seminar room.

According to him, the engineering complex comprises fully equipped workshops for metalwork, carpentry, mechanics, foundry and welding, as well as a 200-capacity engineering studio. The central library seats 426 students, while the main auditorium accommodates 500.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Delta, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, described the projects as a testament to the governor’s transformational agenda and people-focused leadership.

She said the engineering complex, environmental sciences faculty and management sciences building would significantly expand the university’s capacity to train professionals in key sectors critical to the state’s socio-economic development.

“Your support has translated into more classrooms, more laboratories, more workshops and more opportunities for our youths. You are not just constructing buildings; you are constructing the future of Delta State,” she said.

Chiemeke disclosed the university’s decision to name the Management and Social Sciences Complex after Governor Oborevwori in recognition of his contributions to the institution and the advancement of education in the state.

Chairman of Ika North-East Local Government Council, Hon. Monday Odigwe, also commended the governor for his commitment to balanced development, noting that the projects reflect the practical implementation of the MORE Agenda across all parts of Delta State.

Oborevwori Inspects Ugbolu–Okpanam, Oko Road Projects, Insists On Quality, Timely Delivery

Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality infrastructure and timely project delivery during inspection visits to the ongoing Ugbolu–Okpanam and Phase 2 of Oko-Anala – Oko-Ogbele – Oko-Odifili Road projects.

Speaking during the inspection of the 12.12-kilometre Ugbolu–Okpanam Road on Tuesday, the Governor said his visit was aimed at personally assessing the progress of work rather than relying solely on reports from engineers.

“I did not just come here casually, I came to personally inspect and see for myself the level of work,” he said, emphasizing that follow-up is as important as groundbreaking and commissioning ceremonies.

Governor Oborevwori recalled that he began giving serious consideration to the project around July last year due to the persistent movement challenges experienced by residents along the corridor. The groundbreaking ceremony was performed in October.

The Governor disclosed that although the original timeline for the project is 18 months, the contractor has assured the state government of completion by December this year.

The road, he explained, is designed with 7.7-metre-wide concrete drains on both sides, with an overall width of approximately 11 metres and an 8-metre main carriageway.

According to him, the extensive drainage system is critical given the flooding challenges in the area, adding that Okpanam sits on higher ground, causing water to flow into surrounding lower areas, which has over the years led to severe flooding.

The ongoing construction of comprehensive drainage channels, he said, would redirect water safely to the river and significantly address flooding concerns.

He said: “Some of the previous drain systems were either single or double but not adequate to handle the volume of water. We are ensuring that this drainage infrastructure is comprehensive and durable. Residents will notice the difference during the rainy season”.

Describing the road as strategically important, Oborevwori said it connects Ugbolu and Okpanam communities, enhances social and economic activities, and promotes unity between urban and semi-urban areas.

He stressed that his administration is deliberate about inclusive development, noting that infrastructure projects are being spread across various local government areas to ensure balanced growth.

“We are not only constructing flyovers and roads in urban centres; we are also extending infrastructure to rural communities. Development must be balanced,” he said.

At the Phase 2 of Oko-Anala – Oko-Ogbele – Oko-Odifili Road project site, Governor Oborevwori reiterated his insistence on meaningful progress and strict adherence to timelines.

He explained that the project was structured in phases, with Phase One covering approximately 4.7 kilometres now completed. Phase Two, which spans about five kilometres, remains outstanding.

The Governor described the terrain as extremely challenging, revealing that large quantities of unsuitable clay soil had to be excavated and removed to ensure a stable foundation.

He said: “If you do not properly remove unsuitable soil and stabilise the base before filling, the road will not last,” disclosing that the contractor had initially projected completion of Phase Two by August 2027, a timeline he firmly rejected.

Oborevwori assured residents of Oko-Anala – Oko-Ogbele – Oko-Odifili Road projects, that the state government has fully mobilised the contractor and made funds available, stressing that there are no financial constraints from the government’s side.

He urged the contractor to intensify effort and complete the project before the end of this year or early next year, saying; “if contractors want more jobs from this administration, they must deliver quality work and complete projects on time”.

Reaffirming his administration’s guiding principle, Oborevwori declared: “We believe in standards, and we will not compromise on quality.”

Senator Abubakar Kyari: A Renewed Hope for Nigeria’s Agricultural Revolution

0

Food security stands as one of the most pressing challenges in the world today, and the role of agricultural leadership has become so important in shaping sustainable futures. The recent ascent of Senator Abubakar Kyari as Nigeria’s Hon. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security is not merely a political event; it marks a transformative era for Nigeria’s agricultural landscape. With the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the invaluable partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Kyari is poised to rebrand Nigeria’s agricultural sector and address the multifaceted issues of rural economies, employment creation, and food security. The recognition of Senator Kyari’s contributions and potential impact on agriculture, while elucidating the strategic importance of his leadership and partnerships in achieving these ambitious goals, is his unmatched scorecard.

Senator Abubakar Kyari embodies a blend of experience, passion, and vision, all crucial attributes for any leader not only in agriculture but also in governance at any given stage. His election as chairperson to lead IFAD at its 49th session is a testament to his capabilities and global trust. Being loved by delegates from over 120 countries signifies his diplomatic acumen and capacity to communicate Nigeria’s agricultural needs effectively on an international platform. Kyari’s focus on transforming rural economies through agricultural innovation reflects his understanding of the socio-economic dynamics that govern food production and distribution in Nigeria.

Kyari recognizes that agricultural sustainability cannot be achieved solely through policy changes; it requires a collaborative approach that involves farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and international bodies. This perspective leads to participatory governance, where those directly affected by agricultural policies play an integral role in shaping them.

The significance of the partnership with IFAD cannot be overstated. IFAD has been instrumental in funding and implementing programs that aim to enhance rural livelihoods and food security around the globe. Under Kyari’s leadership, Nigeria can leverage this partnership to access technical expertise, financial resources, and innovative agricultural practices that have been successful in other regions.

While rebranding Nigeria’s approach to agriculture, Kyari envisions an industry that not only feeds the nation but also generates substantial income for rural youths. This strategy prioritizes modern farming techniques, agro-processing, and value chains that ensure profitability for smallholder farmers. He understands that empowering these farmers goes beyond mere provision of inputs; it encompasses education, access to markets, and the establishment of cooperative societies, fostering a sense of community among agri-preneurs.

Job creation remains one of the most challenging issues facing Nigeria today. The agricultural sector holds immense potential for employment, especially for the youth. Senator Kyari’s endeavors to strengthen food security hinge upon the belief that a robust agricultural industry can serve as a catalyst for job creation. By promoting initiatives that encourage entrepreneurship within agriculture, such as agribusiness training programs and access to microfinance, Kyari is effectively paving the way for young Nigerians to secure livelihoods in this vital sector.

His focus on strengthening food security through agricultural modifications will stabilize prices, improve accessibility, and encourage local consumption of Nigerian produce. This not only enhances national self-sufficiency but also reduces dependency on foreign imports, thereby reinforcing the local economy. Through his strategies, Kyari aims to inspire a new generation of agriculturalists who see agriculture not merely as a means of survival but as a gateway to prosperity.

With the steady increase in the global population, food security continues to be a priority for nations worldwide. In Nigeria, the urgency to address this issue is further exacerbated by conflicts, climate change, and economic instability. Senator Abubakar Kyari recognizes these challenges and is committed to fortifying food security within the country. His leadership plans to implement policies that support climate-smart agriculture, focusing on resilience and sustainability, are creating a wave of hope for both women and men holding to the renewed hope initiative in agriculture.

Under his stewardship, there is a growing emphasis on research and development tailored to Nigeria’s unique climatic conditions. Collaborations with universities and research institutions can lead to innovations in crop varieties, pest management, and sustainable farming techniques. Investing in technology will not only enhance productivity but also attract young people to agriculture, ensuring that the sector evolves in line with modern demands.

The youth demographic in Nigeria is burgeoning; thus, engaging them meaningfully in agriculture is imperative for long-term sustainability. Senator Kyari’s vision resonates particularly well with the aspirations of young Nigerians who seek viable career paths. Through targeted outreach programs that highlight success stories in agribusiness, as well as mentorship opportunities, Kyari can inspire a sense of ownership and pride in the agricultural sector.

Additionally, leveraging modern technological advancements—such as mobile applications for market information, e-learning platforms for skill acquisition, and social media for awareness campaigns—will play a key role in reaching out to the tech-savvy younger generation. These strategies will not only promote agricultural practices but can also serve as pathways to connect aspiring agri-preneurs with established practitioners, ensuring knowledge transfer and business networking.

President Tinubu’s support for Senator Kyari’s initiatives is crucial, as it offers the political backing necessary for impactful reforms in agriculture. A strong policy framework that facilitates investment in infrastructure—such as irrigation systems, roads for efficient transportation of goods, and storage facilities—will significantly reduce post-harvest losses, a critical issue facing Nigerian farmers today.

The legislative measures that protect smallholder farmers and ensure fair trade practices are essential for cultivating a favorable environment for agricultural growth. The commitment to creating a vibrant agricultural sector must resonate throughout government levels, ensuring that policies align with the larger vision of economic transformation.

Senator Abubakar Kyari stands at the forefront of a critical juncture for Nigerian agriculture. His leadership, fueled by a partnership with IFAD and political support from President Tinubu, positions him uniquely to facilitate transformative changes in the agricultural landscape of Nigeria. By emphasizing rural economic development, job creation, and food security, Kyari embodies the hope of many Nigerians aspiring to revitalize and modernize agriculture in the country.

As Kyari pursues his goals, it becomes imperative for stakeholders at all levels—government, private sector, and civil society—to rally behind these initiatives, ensuring that the vision of a prosperous agricultural future is realized. Together, we can foster a resilient agricultural sector that not only secures food for our populace but also drives economic growth, generates employment, and ultimately leads Nigeria towards its rightful place as a leader in global food security.
