Going by the demonstrated commitment and drive of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the Governor of Delta State, to the vision of the MORE Agenda, the strengthening of the foundation of various institutions critical to the management of development and growth, and the investments over the past 19 months of the administration, 2025 promises to be a year of harvest of projects across Delta State.

The administration started on a very strong note, especially with the Governor’s focus and determination to the completion of inherited projects and the initiation of new ones. This culminated in the delivery of a huge number of projects across various sectors within his 100 days in office.

Subsequently, by the end of his first year in office, the entire State had been turned into a massive construction site.

The Warri/Effurun flyover projects were loud, and more so too with the engagement of Julius Berger, adjudged as an ace construction firm, to ensure competent and timely delivery.

Equal attention has also been devoted to projects like the Beneku Bridge, the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, the Orere Bridge, the Isheagu-Ewulu Road, the Okpanam-Ibusa Bypass, the Trans Warri Ode-Itsekiri Road, Storm Water Drainage projects in various urban and sub-urban centres, a multiplicity of internal roads in various towns and cities and link roads in various rural and riverine communities.

Presently, the administration has about 513 roads and about 1,300 kilometres of drainage projects simultaneously under construction. These also include Federal Roads, which the Governor has repeatedly assured he would work on for the benefit of the people, with or without the possibility of a refund and except where there are existing contractual encumbrances.

While the contractors are routinely mobilized, the administration has also adopted the strategy of Irrevocable Standing Payment Order (ISPO) on the big projects. This has ensured stability and efficiency in the implementation of the projects.

Remarkably, the administration has equally devised a special budgetary strategy of the provision of a dedicated allocation to Local Governments Areas for roads maintenance, raised from N1b in the 2024 budget, to N2b in the 2025 budget, for each Local Government.

The State government has also devoted 60% of the 2025 budget to capital expenditure, one of the highest ratio presently of any State budget in the country.

By the end of 2024, the Delta State Government won the Bill and Melinda Gates Awards for high performance in Primary Health Care Development, organised by the Nigerian Governors Forum.

The feat attests to the outstanding achievements of the administration in the health sector, which includes the ongoing renovation, upgrade and re-equipment of about 150 Primary Health Care Centres and 64 General Hospitals, the growth of the State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme to currently over 2m enrollees, the addition of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Southern Delta University, Ozoro (former Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro), with a new campus opened at Orerokpe, the establishment of the School of Medical and Health Technology, Ovrode, the provision of various critical CTU facilities at the University Teaching Hospital, Oghara, and Specialist Hospitals in the State, and the sustenance and improvement of the Mother and Under-5 Children Free Treatment Programme.

The Oborevwori performance story stretches across all other sectors, from education to agriculture, housing, transportation, judiciary, commerce, and industry.

There has been a high premium on social investments with the expansion of the beneficiaries of the D-CARES programme from 36,000 to over 250,000 in various result areas, in less than two years, with additions from other human capital development programmes like the MORE Grant Scheme, MORE Biz-Up by the Job Creation Office, as well as in the agricultural sector where farmers are not only regularly provided inputs and over 6,000 of them financially empowered, but with the government also aiming to raise 50,000 Agro-preneurs in collaboration with the Africa Development Bank-NEPAD Partnership programme for agricultural development.

It is interesting that in these deliveries, the administration has maintained a high level of fiscal discipline, financial prudence, accountability and transparency, relying mostly on its federal allocations and improvement on Internally Generated Revenue, without borrowing a dime.

It was for this reason, that the State was ranked tops in the Governance Accountability and Transparency Index (G.A.T.I) survey, designed to deepen good governance by beaming searchlight on the activities of the 36 States of the federation by the assessment of Public Access to Information and Open Data Initiatives; Budget Transparency and Participatory Budgeting; Audit and Oversight; Anti-Corruption Efforts; Government Responsiveness; Procurement Transparency and Media Freedom, conducted by an independent group of over 75 online editors across the country.

These all suggest that the Oborevwori vision, style and approach to governance is one of the best in the country, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu testified to this recently when he declared that, with more Governors like him, the country would be a better place.

This attestation will get even more fillip as we turn into 2025 for a harvest of the investments and yields of the Oborevwori’s development phenomenon for Deltans, driven and delivered through the M.O.R.E Agenda, in Delta State.

Retired Anglican Archbishop of the Niger Province, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, and his driver have been released after one mouth in captivity.

The Diocese of Nnewi confirmed their safe return, citing a high-ranking church official as the source.

A statement from the source reads: “We rejoice at the wonderful news that His Grace, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, retired Anglican Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, has been safely released from captivity along with his driver.

“This is a heartfelt New Year’s gift to the entire Anglican Communion and Anambra state at large.”

The source, however, declined to disclose whether ransom was paid or not.

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Delta State, Olorogun John Oguma, has described the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as a man of destiny whose outstanding leadership has transformed the state.

Speaking during a thank-you visit by indigenes and non-indigenes of Ovwor-Olomu community in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Oguma praised the governor for his ability to handle governance effectively, noting that he has not borrowed funds despite initiating new and completing numerous projects.

“Governor Oborevwori has won 38 court cases and continues to deliver on his promises. He pays salaries promptly, executes projects across the state, and ensures continuity by completing the projects of past administrations.

“In addition, he has initiated several new projects and completed some of the new projects. His good work speaks volumes, and we believe it will pave the way for his re-election in 2027,” Oguma said.

Highlighting some of the governor’s achievements, Oguma commended ongoing infrastructure projects, including the development of road networks and the building of Ovwor General Hospital.

According to him, these initiatives showcase the governor’s commitment to the welfare of Deltans and residents.

Oguma lauded Governor Oborevwori for his leadership and further appreciated the community, by distributing over 1,000 wrappers and cash, promising to continue supporting them.

Earlier, the Ovwor-Olomu community, had expressed gratitude to Chief Oguma for his support and generosity and brought food items, including plantains, bananas, garri, pigs, palm oil, banga, rams, and firewood, to appreciate his contributions to their welfare.

During the visit, the community passed a vote of confidence on Governor Oborevwori’s leadership and pledged their support for his second term bid in 2027.

Chief Joseph Aphia moved the motion, which was seconded by Prince William Akpokomuaye Ovedje on behalf of the Ovwor-Olomu community.

Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to governance, transparency, and development continues to resonate with citizens across Delta State, positioning him as a leader whose work will leave a lasting legacy.

The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior, has congratulated the victorious Ika South team in the just concluded Anioma Unity Football Tournament, after defeating Ukwuani Local Government in the finals played in Asaba.

The Chairman, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Jonathan Onwuka, in a statement, said he was highly elated at the feat of the team and commended the players and their handlers for making the people of Ika South Local Government Area proud.

He said the victory was a beautiful gift to cap 2024, which he noted, had been a remarkable year of numerous achievements for the people and residents of Ika South.

According to Engr. Ehiwarior, “the 3 – 2 victory of our indomitable team over the Ukwuani team, not only showcased the skill and spirit of determination of our boys ably led by Coach Timothy, but also highlights the sports potentials that abound in our environment.”

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, is not just a politician but a man of profound vision and unwavering determination to achieve set goals.

From an early age, Senator Nwoko, the Chairman of the Nigeria Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations, exhibited exceptional passion for justice for the less privileged.

As a lawyer, he has consistently fought for justice, representing individuals and communities whose voices were often unheard.

But his true calling lay beyond the courtroom—in the corridors of power where policies are made and futures are shaped.

In 1999, the Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Sports, Senator Nwoko entered the Nigerian House of Representatives, representing the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency.

He quickly distinguished himself as a legislator with a difference, as his tenure was marked by a relentless pursuit of developmental projects and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of his constituents and by parity of reasons, Nigerians.

His ability to merge visionary ideas with practical solutions earned him the admiration of both colleagues at the House of Representatives and his constituents.

The Nigerian government has condoled the government and people of the Republic of Korea over an ill fated air crash that left 169 people onboard dead.

The federal government message was expressed in a statement signed on Sunday by the acting spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa,

The statement read: “The Federal Republic of Nigeria wishes to express her sincere condolences to the Government and People of the Republic of Korea for the unfortunate crash of Jeju Air Flight 2216 that occurred on Sunday, December 29th, 2024.

“According to reports, the Boeing 737-800 operated by Jeju Air was returning from Bangkok, Thailand when it crash-landed at the Muan International Airport in the southern part of the country, skidding off the runway and crashing into a wall in a fiery explosion. A total of 179 of the 181 people on board the aircraft were killed, with just two survivors.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria sympathizes with the Government of South Korea and the families of the victims of the deadly plane crash.”

In a well attended meeting of the Ambrose Alli University Alumni Association Sapele Main Branch, held in the evening of Thursday, December 26, 2024 being boxing day, as part of the celebrations of the yuletide season, members present took a valedictory look at the activities of the year in retrospect and resolved as follows:

I am profoundly humbled to address you today as the interim chairman of the Ovwodokpokpor Christian Association. As we gather in this sacred space, I feel the weight of our shared history and the vibrant legacy of our community.

The Birth of Our Association

Our journey began with the simple yet profound principles of faith, unity, and service. The Ovwodokpokpor Christian Association was born from the heart of an early Christian fellowship, where believers united to uplift one another and herald the message of love and redemption. The vision was conceived by my humble self, Pastor Christian Keremor, at about December 2022, when I observed a not-too-pleasant development among ministers of our community’s origin in the past. I sought for like minds and found one in Pastor Obaro Ikupa, who I asked to create a WhatsApp group for the body. We kept sharing ideas on the vision and mission until he created the WhatsApp group in March 2023.

Today, we have about 70 members on the WhatsApp group. From then on we started meeting online, until Shedrack Akpoyibo became interested and he was the only one who joined us for the first physical meeting of the body, even though it was well publicised on the WhatsApp platform. The first meeting, which was physically held at the MFM Youth Church at Cousin Close, Enerhen Junction, where only three of us, Rev. Dr. Shedrack Akpoyibo, Pastor Joseph Obaro Ikupa, and my humble self were present took place on Sunday, 28th April 2024. At that meeting, we reviewed the situation of our community and resolved that we need this body to anchor a strong spiritual base to support our community leaders to enthrone light in our community and to chase darkness out of it. Since then, we have held the monthly online prayer meeting on the last Sunday of every month by 8.00pm.

Over time, our association has blossomed, adapting and growing while steadfastly holding to these foundational values. In these monthly prayer meetings, attendance is usually between 5 and 7 members. So far, those who attend these meetings regularly are: Pastor Christian Keremor, Rev. F. D. Ikupa, Dr. Shedrack Akpoyibo, Evang. Lilian Igereh, Deborah Ufuoma-Okoro (Nee Ikupa), Ven. Ovie Ekpewu, Pst. Joseph Obaro Ikupa, and Evang. B. O. Edoge and Paul Oyibode, who both have joined us recently. We then resolved that to be able to make a positive impact, and involve more members in these prayers, we need to hold an inaugural physical meeting that will be all embracing in the community, hence this meeting.

Membership:

The membership of this association is open to all indigenes of Ovwodokpokpo-Olomu (paternally or materially, by birth or marriage) who believe in the trinity, the redemption of man through the birth of Jesus Christ by the Virgin Mary, his death on the cross, burial and resurrection, and His second coming, Heaven and Hell, and man’s everlasting life through faith in His finished work on the cross. It is also open to non indigenes who are resident in the community and who have accepted Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour. It is an interdenominational body where no particular denomination is deemed better than the other.

In Closing
Any great idea always has its challenges, and this was not without any. At the beginning all the people I spoke with before I spoke with Pastor Obaro Ikupa did not encourage me. They didn’t think that it was necessary. The challenges of money to travel for physical meetings, to buy airtime and data for virtual meetings as well as deniminational barriers were all challenges we had to grapple with. These challenges are still there, but with love and our collective faith and determination, we shall overcome them.

As we look to the future, let us hold fast to our founding ideals. Let us be living testaments to the love and unity that Christianity teaches, striving together for a luminous future for our community.

At the zenith of colonial exploitation of Africa, a British scholar dripping with arrogance and false sense of racial superiority said that a great nation is known by the colonies she acquired. Irked by the statement, Vladimir Lenin, a leading communist light replied that colonialism was the highest and worst form of capitalism. The European nations believed that Africa could be balkanized in their spheres of influence at the Berlin conference.

Apart from exploiting the resources of Africa, there was outright stealing of artifacts and gold in Africa. Some of such art works are still domiciled in European museums. The British expedition to Benin kingdom not only led to the sack of the Oba, invaluable works of arts were carted away.

Some Nigerian historians maintain that the level of poverty in the continent could be traced to the pillaging of Africa by the marauding invaders. MKO Abiola, the flamboyant politician and philanthropist, the winner of the 1993 annulled presidential election was in the forefront for reparations and compensation to Africa by the European nations.

Today, a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is in the forefront in the campaign for reparations and repatriations to Africa. Senator Ned Nwoko as the chairman of the Senate committee on reparations and repatriations is scout ready to fight so that the injustice of the past years to Africa can be corrected.

Recently the committee met in Abuja and these are some of the terms of reference. That it has been saddled with a significant mandate, including investigating historical wrongs done to communities and individuals across Nigeria and recommending appropriate reparations.

Another mandate is the repatriation of cultural artifacts that were stolen from Nigeria and are currently held in foreign countries.

Speaking at the meeting of the committee, Senator Nwoko expressed confidence in the members of the committee, adding that with their wealth of experience, the committee would succeed.

Listen to the distinguished senator: ‘There is no doubt in my mind therefore that the committee will deliver on its core mandates with significance and high level of success.

“It is on this note that I seek your unhindered cooperation and understanding as we navigate the water of this very important committee.’

Nwoko further explained that when necessary, the committee would pursue legal redress through international courts to ensure that justice is served.
For the senator representing Delta North, as an international lawyer of repute, he is in his elements as regards
international law practice.

He also maintained that his committee shall not be a solo effort. That the committee would collaborate with traditional rulers, civil society organizations, and international partners, including the United Nations and the African Union.

This is a tall order and that the European nations would not gladly agree to the demands for reparations. Unlike MKO Abiola campaign of reparations, Senator Nwoko’s committee has the support of the federal government.

It is now left for the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek the support and understanding of the African Union so that those who exploited Africa and stole her artifacts should not only pay reparations and repatriations, an apology should be extracted from them.

This is what Ned Nwoko and his senate committee want to achieve for Nigerians and indeed the rest of African nations. The truth must be told, colonialism was a nightmarish experience that beggared the continent development and progress.

For a man who has dedicated his life to service to humanity, fighting for equity and justice for all in the Nigerian Senate where he stands tall in his representation of the Delta North senatorial district, nothing short of accolades, encomeons and recognitions is expected.

More importantly, such recognitions, which have come from reputable organisations, even from outside of Delta State, all acknowledged that Senator Nwoko has, within a space of 18 months in the saddle, done what the average Senator would not do in 4 years.

In the past one month, the Star Prince has had to his credit, 4 Awards, which are worthy of note.

On December 1, 2024, he was conferred with the highly coveted Social Impact of the Decade award at the Megastar Man of the Decade Awards (Africa).

Celebrated Senator Nwoko’s visionary leadership, transformative initiatives, and unwavering dedication to improving lives and fostering sustainable development over the past decade, earned him the award at the inaugural ceremony by Megastar, held in Asokoro, Abuja.

Receiving the award, Senator Nwoko, represented by his Communications Director, Hon. Gloria Okolugbo, reiterated his tireless commitment to public service and his deep compassion for humanity, pointing out that he had been able to make immeasurable impact across critical sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure.

“My support for the people of Delta North and Nigerians at large has been nothing short of transformative, an impact that transcends mere statistics and resonates deeply within communities”, the Senator remarked.

Nine days later, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), named Senator Prince Ned Nwoko the recipient of its prestigious 2024 Human Rights Man of the Year Award.

The award, which was in commemoration of the 2024 International Human Rights Day in Abuja, recognized his exemplary contributions to legislative excellence, community development, and the advancement of human rights in Nigeria.

HURIWA, while describing Ned Nwoko as a “beacon of hope for Delta North”, stated that he was selected for the award in recognition of his outstanding performance in the 10th Senate, and for his transformative initiatives that have positively impacted Delta North and beyond, noting his sponsorship of 25 bills and 19 motions of great significance, not only to his constituents, but to the generality of Nigerians, and especially his passion for the creation of Anioma State.

Following closely, the Special Monitoring Mission of the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) in Nigeria honoured Distinguished Senator Prince (Dr.) Ned Nwoko with a Global Leadership Award, reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership on a global scale.

Making the presentation at the National Assembly, the National Coordinator of the Transnational Intergovernmental Organization in Nigeria, Engr. Comrade Elijah Vitus Echendu, conveyed the commendation of IHRC’s Ambassador-at-Large and Head of Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria, Ambassador Dr. Duru Hezekiah, underscoring Senator Nwoko’s antecedents in the 10th National Assembly.

He stated that Senator Ned Nwoko had sponsored several bills at the Nigerian Senate, focusing on key areas impacting the nation’s growth and development, some of which covered economic development, social welfare, and healthcare reforms.

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Edo State Chapter has extended warm New Year felicitations to the people of Edo State, urging them to embrace hope and remain optimistic as they navigate the challenges of the year ahead.

In a statement issued by the State Chapter Chairman, Dr. James-Wisdom Abhulimen, the NIPR urged citizens to remain steadfast and optimistic despite the prevailing economic difficulties even as it enjoined the State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to lead with integrity and ensure the prudent management of the State’s resources.

Dr. Abhulimen emphasized the power of unity and determination in overcoming challenges, asserting, “Our collective strength can shape a brighter tomorrow for ourselves and future generations.”

The State Chairman highlighted the importance of rejecting anti-democratic tendencies, social vices, and corrupt practices, noting their detrimental impact on the economy and national reputation.

Others include promoting agricultural development for economic sustainability and grassroots development through the construction of massive road network in the State.

The Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on women Mobilization, Chief Kano-ere Ekio has charged Nigerians to strictly adhere and obey God’s instructions as it was a precondition to unbelievable breakthrough.

Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North in the National Assembly has been scheduled to receive a prestigious award to be presented by Vice President of the Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima. Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has congratulated HRM. Dr Emmanuel Sideso, OON, Abe I, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, on his 81st birth anniversary, on December 19, 2024. 

Oborevwori’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba on Thursday. 

Governor Oborevwori lauded the royal father’s commitment to the peace and development of Uvwie Kingdom and the Urhobo nation. 

He described the monarch, who serves as the Chairman of the Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council, as “one of Nigeria’s exceptional traditional rulers, whose remarkable contributions to the peace and development of the country is commendable.” 

He noted that His Majesty’s exceptional peacebuilding efforts have consistently brought significant benefits to both the State and the kingdom, serving as a vital gateway to the State’s thriving oil and gas economy. 

He stated that over the years, Abe I had played a pivotal role in the growth and progress of both the kingdom and Delta State, emphasizing that he remains a distinguished leader, a revered monarch, a role model, and a custodian of the traditions and heritage of the Uvwie people. 

The Governor also praised the royal father for his steadfast support of his administration. 

“On behalf of the Government and people of Delta, I warmly congratulate His Royal Majesty, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM. Dr Emmanuel Sideso, OON, Abe I, as he clocks 81 years on December 19.

Long, long ago, it was held that hardly does a prophet have honour among his people.
This is because, as a medieval-era English proverb says, (undue)familiarity breeds contempt.

However, it appears that the notion of inadequate deference to the prophet among his people is changing, and the recent event in Delta State-the induction by the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, into the group’s Hall of Fame- is a clear case of the existential erosion, in fact, an exfoliation, of that notion and its essence.
Yes, at its 93rd annual conference held in Uviamuge, Agbarho in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state, Rt. Hon. Oborevwori, before a galactic ensemble of Deltans, mainly of Urhobo extraction, was deservedly inducted into the Hall of Fame by the iconic socio-cultural group.
The rest, as it is said, is history.

The induction of Oborewvori and the occasion itself are enveloped in a casement of significance and import, as pointed out earlier in the preceding paragraph; aside of eroding the notion of lack of respect for the prophet among his people, the event makes the governor the first sitting Chief Executive of the state to be treated reverentially by the UPU during the pendency of his/her administration.
Maybe, this special reverence has roots in the historic significance of the place of the subject individual –Oborevwori-in the annals of the Urhobo ethnic group, and even for the entire state: Oborevwori is the fifth elected /substantive governor of the state after Chief Felix Ibru; Chief James Ibori, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Dr. Ifeanyichikwu Ozabor Okowa. As the fifth in the line, he probably carries the rare privilege of Mother Nature, having regard to the Cosmological/ spiritual significance of number five as the number of uncommon grace.
Even in the world of Literary Studies, the number (line/stroke)five, in poetry , is called the Iambe, ( pronounced I am bay) which is regarded as the most exotic, esoteric and appealing, and hence, regarded as inimitable.

Oborevwori also sets record as the first indigene of the Okpe sub group of the vast Urhobo nation to be elected the governor of the state. This is aside from the fact that he is also the first Okpe indigene, the first Urhobo and the first Deltan, to have the privilege of serving the state as elected Speaker and elected Governor. Prince Sam Obi, who had served as Governor while he was still Speaker, was not elected governor and only sat in temporarily, following the judicial annulment of the election of then Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, by the Court of Appeal, Benin City.

Oborevwori is equally the first Deltan to be elected Governor during the pendency of his Speakership, and the first Deltan to serve the state as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly for two legislative seasons.

Perhaps, all of these elements of the historic garland to his neckline may have informed the decision of the highly respected UPU to give honour to whom it is due.
Can anyone blame them for honouring the rare and highly revered King Millipede?

There is also the element of the significance of the induction that lies in the credibility of the octopic UPU, as the apex socio-cultural group of the Urhobo nation, as well as the historic significance of the venue-Uviamuge- which is regarded as not only the birth place of Urhobo cultural pantheon, awareness and renaissance, but also, in a way, its spiritual underpin.
The dignified presence of the leadership of the socio-cultural groups of other ethnic nationalities at the event equally bears out its rare significance as it typifies the fact that, while the honour is at the instance of his ancestral cultural group, its vibrations and other essences sit pretty across the state, from the brackish waters of the deltaic parts of the southern senatorial district through the lush evergreen region of the Central Senatorial District to the balding landscape of the Anioma Nation (Delta North Senatorial District). The virtual across- board presence of the leadership of other ethnic groups testifies to the appeal of Oborevwori and the brotherhood that bind Deltans together, differences in creed and Mother Tongue notwithstanding.

Of course, the import of the title of Omorotomo (meaning a worthy child ) of Urhobo land ( which he was conferred with by the Urhobo Council of Traditional Rulers, the first such action by the college of royal fathers) is not lost on anyone; even in these days of the proliferation of chieftaincy titles, it is difficult to find anyone privileged to be so honoured by the conferment of the title by the same name.
And do you know what? It is not for nothing that our elders, long ago, said that nothing compares with the uniqueness of the silk cotton.
Beyond all of the other elements of the significance of the induction is the fact of its reflection of popular perception (the UPU,in this instance) of the performance of the governor so far as the predicate of the induction.

While there may not be a harmonious public opinion on the performance of the Oborevwori administration so far, the fact must never be lost on anyone that, as it is said in ancient Africa, the hunter who regularly hits the evasive eagle in flight requires no further proof of his efficiency at marksmanship. Oborevwori, as a skilled hunter, has hit targets across all sectors of the economy of the state , with the ongoing work/ completion of inherited projects, and the initiation of significant new ones, with estimates holding that no fewer than 136 such new road and allied projects have been initiated (with many already completed)since May 2023.
The proofs?
In laying out the predicate of the induction, the President-General (PG) of the UPU, Worldwide), Chief Ese Gam Owe, credited the governor with stellar performance since his assumption of office, 18 months ago.
And not a few would agree with the submission of the respected UPU flower.
And the proofs of the developmental engagements of the Oborevwori administration, like the huge feet of the tropical elephant on wet soil, find expression in the diverse sectors of the economy of the state.

For instance, the governor sustained construction work on the hundreds of road and other projects inherited from the past administration ( the major ones among them are the Ughelli/Asaba highway dualisation project, the Ayakoromo bridge project and the Trans-Warri highway) estimated at more than 1000kilometres in total span, some of which have been completed.

It has also initiated around 136 road and related projects, work on some of which has gone significantly high on delivery dates.
It has, in the 2025 budget, provided N2billion special intervention fund for road development in each of the 25 local government areas of the state. This handsome provision is aside from the more than N200billion it has earmarked for the same purpose in the state, in the same budget, in which a total of N630. 46billion of the N979.222billion envelop size is devoted to capital expenditure. That is for the upcoming fiscal year, 2025.

However, ahead of the upcoming budget year, the Oborevwori administration has earned worthy mention in the public space by its encouraging performance, 18 months into its current term of office.
For instance, in deference to the fact of the strategic importance of security agencies and the civil service in creating the right operational ambience for the cost-efficient delivery of services from the public mains, the administration has provided in excess of 80 new operational vehicles for the security agencies in the state and Permanent Secretaries, the flower of its workforce. The last batch of the vehicles provided for the security agencies consisted of 33 units of Hilux Vans and other brands/types of motorized operational kits. The recent donation of the 33 vehicles, which attracted public applause from the echelon of Nigeria’s security architecture, was the second such gesture and event by the administration which, under its MORE agenda, lays adequate slant on the cultivation and sustenance of security in the state.

In sports, it has hosted and won the first of the several editions of the National Youth Games it is primed to host in the coming years, as well as sustained the Principals’ and Headmasters’ soccer competitions among secondary and basic schools in the state.

In road construction, the N78billion flyover and road projects in and around Warri /Effurun , being handled by industry giant, Julius Berger, are the plank of the development efforts of the government in the road sector, in which its potent hands have activated work on at least 136 different new projects. All 136 road and bridge projects initiated by the Oborevwori government are equitably spread across the senatorial districts of the state.

The education sector has also fared well under the watch of Oborevwori, with the sustenance of the four state universities, polytechnics, monotechnics, Colleges of Nursing/Midwifery, Colleges of Education , College of Health Technology and more than 1,200 public primary and secondary schools.
It has also established a campus of the Southern Delta State University, Ozoro, at Orerokpe, and created a Faculty of Medical Sciences at its main campus at Ozoro.
The administration has equally established a School of Nursing Sciences at Ovrode in the Isoko nation.

Governor Oborevwori has equally approved and paid bursary to more than 60,000 students of the state origin in different schools and the Nigerian Law School for the 2023 and 2024 academic sessions. To ensure enhanced penetration of this gesture, the government included many otherwise excluded institutions in the scheme
The administration has also accorded due attention to its workforce, not only by the prompt payment of its adopted minimum wage benchmark of N77,000, but, had, long before its peers, introduced and implemented a palliative policy for its employees, under which they could stay off duty twice a week, as desirable, and got paid N10,000 per person per month, over a three -month period, as part of efforts to mitigate the harsh effects of the sudden erosion of the petrol subsidy regime by the Federal Government.

It has also deployed in excess of N5billion to offset the arrears of the financial benefits of the promotion of affected civil servants, engaged more than 3,000 teaching and non-teaching staff into the basic school system, and facilitated a N40billion loan by Local Governments in the state, to offset the huge arrears of retirement benefits for retired staff of the local government system in the state. This gesture, a landmark in conception and delivery, remains the talking point of those directly impacted by its soothing effects.
There has also been real activism in the empowerment segment of the economy with 5, 426 artisans, traders and female entrepreneurs handed grants, while 6,000 farmers were given free inputs to boost their engagements and enhance food security in the state.
Beside, the administration has also given fertilizer to farmers in the local government areas, just as it has expanded the focus on agriculture under the Result AREA 2-Fadama (Food Security) as well as the release of N1billion counterpart funding for the African Union Development Agency, New Partnership for African Development (AUDA NEPAD), meant to empower 2,000 for farmers for production, livestock and aquaculture. More than 2,000 entrepreneurs within the envelop of the micro, small and medium scale enterprises, have also been empowered by the administration which has also done quite much under WESAP, and the MORE Business Upscale Programme (also named MORE Biz-UP).
In fact, legion is the number of the projects and other development initiatives taken so far by the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

But do you know what? The man, Oborevwori, like the responsible priest of the high order of public conscience, understands, on the basis of his conviction, that deference to equity, typified by the spread of the projects across all competing interests, is key to retaining public confidence and the priceless goodwill that it triggers. This conviction is the real reason that a galactic ensemble of Deltans, mainly of the UPU extraction, recently broke bread with Oborevwori, who, by his engagements as Governor, has earned their confidence, a rare vital asset that underpins every exemplary leadership.
This confidence is the chief predicate underlying the recent great honour done Oborevwori by the people who, by their action, have demonstrated beyond words, their beloved son in whom they have undying faith.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has been conferred with the 2024 Integrity Man of the Year Award.

The award was presented to the Governor at the 2024 Integrity Group Leadership Summit and Awards held in Asaba on Wednesday.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, Governor Oborevwori thanked the group for the honour, adding that he would continue to work for the overall development of the state.

He said the policies and programmes of his administration were aimed at positively impacting on the socio-economic lives of Deltans and residents both those in urban and rural areas of the state

He thanked Deltans for the unwavering support extended to his administration over the past 19 months, reiterating that the social policies of his administration such as the free health care programme for pregnant women, children under five years of age and the elderly as well as the various empowerment programmes were to enhance healthy living and strengthen the economic potentials of the people.

“I thank Deltans for their unwavering support they have extended to my administration over the past 19 months. I understand it hasn’t been an easy journey, but I appeal to you to remain patient and continue demonstrating the understanding and commitment you have shown thus far.

“To those who have provided constructive advice and voiced your concerns, I assure you that your input has been invaluable. Your voices matter greatly.

“As Prince Unuafe highlighted, this administration remains steadfast in its commitment to progress. We ask you to judge us, not by rhetoric, but by the promises we made to you when we sought your votes.

“You will recall that when we came to you, we did not make lofty promises or engage in empty slogans. Instead, we grounded our campaign in a clear and realistic manifesto: the More Agenda. This agenda is not just a document but a roadmap that continues to guide our actions and decisions.

“It is particularly inspiring to hear that the Integrity Group has embraced the More Agenda as a guiding principle. This agenda, which I have personally broken down into actionable steps, is the foundation of our work.

“As we move forward, I urge you to hold us accountable to these promises. Together, let us continue to build a future that reflects our shared aspirations,” the governor said.

Speaking on the theme of the Summit, “Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda in Delta : A Way of Life”, Prince Obaro Unuafe said the More Agenda was more than a policy, pointing out that it has become a roadmap to impactful development.

According to him, “the effects of the MORE Agenda are tangible as they are seen by all, felt even by the blind, and heard even by the deaf”, stressing that “it (the MORE Agenda) has sparked joy and celebration across Delta State, touching lives and reshaping communities.

“Our governor has been rightly christened the inspiration of our time. His leadership has not only inspired growth but has also united Deltans across the globe. Today, we proclaim with pride that Delta State is in safe and capable hands.

“As we embark on this journey, let us appreciate the progress made so far. Let us recognize that appreciation is not just acknowledgment, it is a call to action for everyone to contribute towards the success of this administration”.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Convener of the 2024 Integrity Group Leadership Summit, Dr. Oke Idawene who said that the Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration was a divine project, disclosed that members of the group proudly stand in support of the governor’s MORE Agenda for Deltans.

“Today, we proudly stand in support of the More Agenda, championing the vision of His Excellency, the Governor, and the First Lady of Delta State. Their unwavering commitment and exceptional leadership have inspired this movement and the gathering we see today.

“The Governor has taken Delta State beyond all expectations, achieving remarkable progress across multiple sectors. This event has brought together representatives from the 25 local government areas of the state including men, women and youths who are united in their belief that His Excellency deserves another tenure to continue his transformative work.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has accomplished what no other governor has done before. His efforts in enhancing security, economic development, capacity building, and healthcare delivery are unparalleled. His administration’s programmes, particularly those empowering our youths and supporting women, have been mind-blowing,” Dr. Idawene stated.

During the Summit, the Special Adviser to the governor on Entrepreneurial Development, Dr. Donald Peterson and the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe spoke on economic/entrepreneurship development and security issues respectively.

Also at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele was given the Commissioner of the year award.

The highpoint of the summit was the unanimous endorsement of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for a second term in office by members of the lntegrity Group.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has charged community leaders in the state to always employ  mediation and dialogue in resolving disputes for sustainable peace and development of the state.

Governor Oborevwori gave the charge at a meeting with Presidents-General of communities and kingdoms held in Asaba, on Wednesday.

The Governor who told the Presidents-General that he was one of them having served as Chairman of Osubi community during which time the  Airport was built, urged them to remain  resolute in handling issues.

He also appealed to  the  Presidents-General to ensure unity, peace, inclusiveness and accountability in their communities saying, “by doing that you are bringing peace to your community because you cannot say you are President General and you don’t listen to your people who elected or appointed you.

“Because that is the only thing that can make you succeed, serving the interest of the people not your personal interest.

“When I was community  Chairman, I looked at the issues clearly. I stood by my people, but also I never wanted my people to oppress Shell.

“So I was like a mediator, looking at Shell not to allow them to oppress the community, and also not to allow the community to be overbearing. That  was how we were able to complete the Phase 1 and 2 of the Osubi Airport.

“As communities there is no way there won’t be challenges. There are always conflicts, there are always challenges. There are community disputes, there are boundary disputes. But the best way to go about it is mediation and dialogue.

“Because when you fight, at the end of the day, you will still go back to that mediation to resolve  issues. Why not start with that mediation? Why not start with that dialogue? Why confrontation?

“I believe that the people we have here are very matured and experienced persons from the communities and the kingdoms.

“As a community leader, as a President General, you are holding that position of trust on behalf of your kingdom and your community.

“So, you must do the right thing to bring peace and unity to your community and your kingdom. So, by resolving it, solve all the problems instead of going into confrontation.”

On security, Governor Oborevwori called on the community leaders to follow due process in resolving disputes and urged them to protect government projects within their neighborhood. He cautioned against working at cross purposes with their traditional rulers.

“Working hand in hand with your traditional rulers will help you succeed.  Some Presidents General do not agree with their traditional rulers. Some of them are overbearing, but you have to manage them because their roles will complement what you are doing,” Oborevwori added.

The Governor further said over N2 billion has been provided for road projects in each of the 25 local government areas across the state and assured that the widows programme would be revisited in the first quarter of 2025.

On his part, Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development, Dr Toyin Agbolayah,  noted the importance of Presidents-General in the state, adding that without the Presidents-General there would be no  meaningful grassroots development.

“When we have issues with communities we run to the Presidents-General and they help us solve those issues. So we cannot thank them enough,” he said.

Earlier, President-General of the Delta State Forum of Kingdoms, Clans and communities, Prince Igwe Nzekwue thanked Governor Oborevwori for the numerous infrastructural developments across the entire state.

He said the programmes and projects of the Governor were already yielding fruits, adding that the people were happy with developments across the state in such a short time.

He assured that the Presidents-General will continue to support him beyond 2027 general elections just as they stood for him in 2023.

Highpoint of the meeting which was attended by the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, was the endorsement of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for second  term. The endorsement was sequel to a motion moved by Chief Sunday Okiah of Abala clan, in Ndokwa East and seconded by Prince Godwin Okotie of Itsekiri nation and was subsequently adopted through a voice vote.

The traditional ruler of Olomoro Kingdom, HRM. Isaiah Isike Edhekere 1, the Odiologbo of Olomoro, has commended the Chief  Of Staff to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon. Johnson Erijo and the chairman of Isoko South local government area, Hon. Warri Ovoke Friday for lifting the suspension slammed on him recently.

Speaking to Journalists at his palace in Olomoro community, Isoko South local government area of Delta State, the Monarch thanked God for fruitful deliberation on the return of peace to Olomoro Kingdom at the office of the chief of staff to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon. Johnson Erijo in Asaba yesterday. 

The monarch noted that, “it was agreed that the suspension be lifted” as Erijo brokered peace and urged that peace reigns in Olomoro community, even as the president  general, Mr. Lucky Ejor Egwe and his executives were admonished to work together towards the development of the area. 

The monarch commended the people of Olomoro community for their peaceful disposition, emphasizing that without peace there will be no development. 

He urged the people to remain peaceful, calm and disregard any rumour of those instigating crisis of forceful takeover of the traditional rulers stool. 

He reinterated that the suspension slammed on him has been lifted and urged everyone instigating crisis to wait for their turn and join him to move the community forward. 

The monarch maintained that, nobody can wrestle the traditional stool with him as he is alive, hale and hearty.

The federal government has been asked to review and enrich the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme to give Nigerian graduates the needed skillset and experience that will make them employable.

The federal government has also been asked to work in conjunction with international donor agencies to expand the budget to the mentorship of fresh graduates in employment skills.

These are the positions that came out of a town hall meeting of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) in Abuja on Tuesday.

The NJFP initiative was born from the dynamic partnership between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). and funded by the European Union. It is a transformative youth empowerment initiative designed to address youth unemployment by connecting talented graduates with local job opportunities to strengthen their expertise while equipping them with world-class practical knowledge and relevant skills.

Speaking at the town hall meeting, one of the CEOs of the host organisations, Elevation Craft, Tongrick Byanyiko, said it would be of great impact on youth empowerment and security of the country if a large portion of the population could be enlisted into the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP) and related programmes.

She said: “I don’t know how realistic it is for everyone to benefit from it, but I feel the budget needs to be expanded for more people to benefit from it.”

She added that the NYSC could also be a tool to make fresh graduates employable and it should not be seen as an institution to get corps members acclimatized with Nigerian diverse culture alone.

She said: “We know employers keep hammering on experience, NYSC should be made to give great skills to Nigerian graduates that would give them needed experience and skills that would make them employable.

“The NYSC needs to imbibe the core employability status to the scheme, so that people would know that that one year is the time for me to get the needed work experience.”

On her part, Chief of Party, Talent Management Company (TMC) North Central, Dr. Funmilayo Oyefusi said: “As a Talent Management Company (TMC) and implementing partner since July 2024 where we were onboarded/engaged as the TMC for North Central region comprising six states in Nigeria (Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, Kwara, and the FCT), we have registered 256 New Host
Organisations, visited and verified 349 Host Organisations, verified and found 207 Host
Organisations eligible, matched 418 Fellows with about 51 Host Organisations and 250 Fellows resumed their fellowship in North Central.

“Of course, this is an ongoing success. It is not just another project where only numbers will be looked out for but, it is more than a project/programme. It is a commitment to tackling the pressing challenges of youth unemployment while cultivating a generation of leaders equipped with world-class skills, practical expertise, and the confidence to shape Nigeria’s destiny.

She added that: “Today’s Town Hall Meeting provides us with a unique opportunity—not only to reflect on the strides we have made through NJFP but also to listen, to engage, and to inspire one another. It is a space where success stories will echo as proof of what we can achieve together and where innovative ideas will emerge to refine and expand the impact made in the lives of these Fellows.

“The young people we are empowering today are not just our future leaders; they are the change makers of today. They are the engine of growth, creativity, and resilience in every sector of our economy. And through the NJFP, we are making sure their voices are heard, their skills are sharpened, and their contributions to national development are celebrated.”

She noted the federal government has done incredibly well by having the programme as an initiative funded by the European Union and managed by the UNDP.”

She added that: “The federal government has done very well for we have been able to match 9,000 graduates to host organisations to work. What we should do further is to recruit more graduates into the programme so that we can match them with the host organisations and build their skills.”

The First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, on Tuesday, through the Social Investment Programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative, disbursed the sum of Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000) to 250 elderly men and women from the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State.

The cash presentation, which was held simultaneously across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, took place in Delta State at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba, having beneficiaries from across political sides.

The wife of Delta State Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, who represented Senator Oluremi Tinubu at the event, stated that the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, supported the gesture of the First Lady with 250 bags of rice, while on her part, she provided free medical checks and drugs for the elderly.

In her address, Senator Tinubu expressed her delight in the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS), which is themed “Total Wellness: Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous Lifestyle,” emphasizing that the programme is designed to support the welfare of elderly citizens annually.

Senator Tinubu noted that the scheme aims to support 250 vulnerable senior citizens, aged 65 and above, in all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association.

She added that the Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative decided to increase the grant from ₦100,000 to ₦200,000 for its second edition to provide further support to the elderly citizens during this festive period.

According to the First Lady, the total sum disbursed across the country is One Billion, Nine Hundred Million Naira (₦1,900,000,000), each beneficiary receiving ₦200,000. While wishing the senior citizens a happy holiday and a prosperous 2025, Senator Tinubu congratulated the selected beneficiaries and urged them to prioritize their health through regular exercise and a healthy diet.

On her part, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, in a welcome address presented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Lady Catherine Onyeme, appreciated the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the Renewed Hope Initiative team for this wonderful scheme, noting that “this kind gesture will go a long way in nation-building.”

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Sunny Onyejose, an APC stalwart, commended the wife of the President for the gesture and applauded the support of the State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his wife for supporting the initiative with other humanitarian services.
