In a statement issued by the National President of HOSTCON, Comrade Emmanuel Fiawei Pathfinder, the council described Senator Nwoko’s appointment by the 10th Senate, under the leadership of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, as a critical development for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

HOSTCON expressed confidence that the committee, under Senator Nwoko’s direction, would effectively address crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta region, which has long hindered Nigeria’s economic progress.

The council noted that Senator Nwoko’s swift action since assuming leadership signifies a turning point in the fight against oil theft.

“It will no longer be business as usual for those who engage in sabotage, whether locally or internationally.

Senator Nwoko has already hit the ground running, and we will see unprecedented efforts in the battle against oil theft,” the statement continued.

“We believe that his leadership will bring about a tremendous transformation in the oil and gas sector.”

Senator Nwoko’s recent engagements, including his courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for military collaboration, demonstrate his commitment to curbing the menace of crude oil theft.

He has also established a surveillance team to monitor oil facilities and set up systems for both overt and covert monitoring.

The Senate committee, under his leadership, is advocating for stronger intelligence-sharing mechanisms, enhanced surveillance, and improved inter-agency collaboration to dismantle the complex networks behind crude oil theft, both within Nigeria and across international borders.

Senator Nwoko has also emphasized the need for policies and security technologies that will protect Nigeria’s future and hold perpetrators accountable.

“The task at hand is not only about protecting revenue; it’s about securing the future of the nation, enhancing economic resilience, and creating an environment conducive to national progress,” Senator Nwoko was quoted as saying.

HOSTCON assured Nigerians of Senator Nwoko’s ability to lead this fight, citing his background as an international criminal lawyer and his impactful work within the Senate.

Senator Nwoko: Addressing critical infrastructure gap through solar powered boreholes, street lights in Anioma

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North in the National Assembly has become an influential figure through his various humanitarian projects aimed at improving the lives of his constituents. One of his notable initiatives is his commitment to providing solar-powered boreholes and street lights in various communities in the region.

This move is a reflection of his deep concern for the underserved populations. His contributions in these areas address several critical needs, including access to clean water, reliable energy, and improved public infrastructure.

Solar-Powered Water Boreholes

Access to clean and potable water remains a significant challenge for many rural and urban communities across Nigeria. The lack of adequate water supply often forces people to rely on unsafe water sources, leading to various health problems such as waterborne diseases. The provision of solar-powered water boreholes by Senator Ned Nwoko is a transformative solution that helps tackle these challenges in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

Nwoko’s solar-powered boreholes are designed to operate independently of the national electricity grid, using solar energy to pump water from deep underground to the surface. This ensures a constant, reliable source of clean water for communities, even in remote areas where traditional infrastructure may not be feasible. Solar energy is an ideal solution in Nigeria, given the country’s abundant sunlight, and it significantly reduces the cost of water pumping compared to conventional electricity-powered systems. Furthermore, solar-powered systems require minimal maintenance and have a long lifespan, making them a cost-effective solution over time.

The installation of these boreholes also empowers local communities by reducing their dependence on external water suppliers. In addition to improving the quality of life, access to clean water is essential for economic development, education, and overall community well-being. By addressing this critical need, Nwoko’s initiative is not only providing immediate relief but also contributing to long-term sustainability and self-sufficiency in the communities he serves.

Solar-Powered Street Lights

In many Nigerian cities and towns, especially in rural areas, street lighting is inadequate or nonexistent. This lack of proper street lighting contributes to safety issues, including increased crime, road accidents, and a sense of insecurity. Solar-powered street lights, another significant project initiated by Ned Nwoko, aim to address these challenges while promoting environmental sustainability.

Solar-powered street lights are a highly efficient and sustainable solution to the lack of lighting in many parts of Nigeria. These lights use solar panels to convert sunlight into electricity, which is stored in batteries and used to power the street lights during the night. Like the water boreholes, solar-powered street lights operate independently of the national power grid, making them particularly valuable in areas where the electricity supply is erratic or unavailable.

One of the main advantages of solar-powered street lights is their low operational cost. Once installed, they do not require a continuous supply of electricity, which can be expensive or unreliable in many parts of Nigeria. The long-term savings in energy costs, combined with the minimal maintenance required, make solar-powered street lights an economically viable alternative to traditional grid-connected lighting systems. Additionally, these lights contribute to reducing carbon emissions, supporting the global effort to combat climate change.

The installation of solar street lights significantly enhances the safety and security of public spaces. Well-lit streets discourage criminal activity and promote safer conditions for pedestrians and motorists. In many Nigerian communities, these lights help transform dark and unsafe areas into vibrant, secure spaces that are conducive to social activities, business operations, and general public well-being. For children, in particular, well-lit streets provide a safer environment for evening activities and can reduce the risk of accidents.

Moreover, solar-powered street lights can serve as a catalyst for economic development. By improving the lighting infrastructure, Nwoko’s initiative helps promote local businesses, enabling them to operate longer hours and increase their visibility. This, in turn, stimulates economic growth in the areas where these lights are installed.

A Vision for Sustainable Development

Senator Nwoko’s efforts in providing solar-powered water boreholes and street lights are not just about immediate relief but are part of a broader vision for sustainable development. By utilizing renewable energy sources, he is promoting solutions that are not only effective but also environmentally friendly and economically sustainable. These initiatives reflect Nwoko’s commitment to a greener future and his belief in the power of technology and innovation to solve complex societal issues.

His projects also align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in areas like clean water and sanitation (SDG 6), affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), and sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11). By tackling these key areas, Nwoko is contributing to the broader development agenda for Nigeria and the African continent as a whole.

Nwoko’s provision of solar-powered water boreholes and street lights represents a significant contribution to Nigeria’s development. His efforts address critical infrastructure gaps, improve quality of life, and promote sustainable practices, all while helping to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas. These initiatives offer a glimpse of a future where renewable energy and community-driven solutions are at the heart of Africa’s development, providing hope and empowerment for generations to come.

Some of the communities already enjoying the solar powered boreholes are Umunede in Ika North East and Idumuje-Ugboko in Aniocha North. While areas that have benefited from the solar powered street lights include 52, Umusadege, Kwale-Ozoro Road, Ndokwa west. Another one is also along Kwale-Ozoro Road, Umusedeli, also in Ndokwa west.

The project is also executed at 223, Nnebisi Road, Isieke, Asaba in Oshimili South and Idumuje Ugboko in Aniocha North. He has assured of more projects in other communities in the coming days.

Anioma State creation: Fight for liberation, development, empowerment of people of Delta North by Sen. Ned Munir Nwoko

By ABEL JOHNGOLD

Renowned politician and advocate for progress, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, has once again emphasized that his renewed push for the creation of Anioma State is a mission that transcends far beyond political ambition. For him, it is a fight for liberation, development, and the empowerment of the people of Delta North.

Speaking passionately during a recent engagement, Senator Nwoko declared, “I am willing to sacrifice every ounce of political influence I possess to see Anioma State become a reality. This is not about me; it is about the future of our people.”

Championing Anioma’s Identity

Anioma, a region with a rich cultural heritage, has long sought statehood to assert its unique identity within Delta State. Senator Nwoko has emerged as a leading voice in this struggle, advocating for the creation of a state that he believes will unlock the region’s full potentials.

“The creation of Anioma State is about giving our people the autonomy they need to thrive,” he stated. “It’s about taking development closer to the grassroots and ensuring that our voices are heard and respected.”

Nwoko refuted claims that his advocacy stems from personal ambition, insisting that his motives are rooted in a genuine desire to see Anioma flourish. He argued that state creation is a tried-and-tested formula for bringing governance closer to the people, citing the successes of other regions that have benefited from similar restructuring.

Anioma State: A Vision for Development

For Senator Nwoko, Anioma State is not just a dream; it is a pathway to economic growth, infrastructural development, and enhanced governance. The senator envisions a state where the wealth and resources of Delta North are harnessed for the benefit of its people, creating opportunities for education, healthcare, and job creation.

He lamented the neglect Anioma has faced over the years, pointing out that the current political structure has not adequately addressed the needs of the region. “The people of Delta North deserve more than what they are getting,” he asserted. “Anioma State will give us the platform to prioritize our people’s welfare.”

Sacrificing Political Influence for a Greater Cause

In a political landscape where personal gain often takes precedence, Nwoko’s declaration of readiness to forgo political influence for Anioma’s liberation stands him out. He acknowledged that his stance might ruffle feathers among political bigwigs who are comfortable with the status quo but maintained that he is undeterred.

“I have no problem giving up my political standing if it means Anioma will be free and prosperous,” he said. “This is not about positions or power; it is about legacy and doing what is right for my people.”

A Call for Unity and Support

Nwoko called on the people of Delta North, as well as other well-meaning Nigerians, to rally behind the Anioma State initiative. He stressed the importance of unity in achieving this shared vision, urging stakeholders to set aside political differences and work towards a common goal.

“The creation of Anioma State is not just my fight; it is our fight. It is a collective responsibility,” he said. “We must all come together to make this dream a reality.”

The Road Ahead

While the journey to state creation is fraught with challenges, Nwoko remains optimistic. He expressed confidence in the process, highlighting the strides made in garnering support at both the state and federal levels.

“Our voices are being heard, and the momentum is building. With perseverance and unity, Anioma State will become a reality,” he assured.

For Senator Ned Nwoko, the creation of Anioma State is more than a political ambition—it is a moral obligation. His unwavering commitment to this cause serves as an inspiration, reminding us all that true leadership is about putting the people first. As he continues to champion this advocacy, one thing is clear: Nwoko’s vision for Anioma State is a vision for liberation, progress, and a brighter future for Delta North.

Delta APC Chieftain, Chief Emma Ejiofor supports Senator Ned Nwoko’s potential defection to APC

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

Chief Emma Ejiofor, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North, has expressed strong support for Senator Ned Nwoko’s potential defection to the APC, emphasizing that anyone opposed to Nwoko’s move likely has personal interests or hidden agenda.

In an appearance on LeapTV, an online television, Ejiofor stated that Senator Nwoko’s entry into the party would strengthen the APC’s position in Delta State, noting that the region now has three APC senators, which provides a strategic advantage.

Though Ejiofor explained that Senator Nwoko is still in the process of consultations before making a final decision, he said the Senator is welcomed by APC members in the region.

He described Nwoko as a team player with deep understanding of the political dynamics in Delta North.

Ejiofor further emphasized that if Nwoko’s current party is not serving the interests of his constituents, it makes sense for him to seek a platform that prioritizes those interests.

The APC chieftain also acknowledged that many politicians in the APC, Labour Party, and other parties had previously been members of the PDP before switching allegiances.

He portrayed Nwoko as a skilled and strategic politician who knows how to navigate the political landscape and achieve the goal he set for his people.

On the topic of Anioma state creation, Ejiofor affirmed its feasibility, expressing strong support for the initiative, which he believes would bring development closer to the people.

He argued that creating more states enhances local governance and development, and Anioma’s creation would significantly benefit the region.

Ejiofor also addressed the resistance to Senator Nwoko by some political figures, attributing it to political bigwigs who fear losing their comfortable positions of control.

He explained that these individuals, who have already reached the top of the political ladder, are unwilling to allow new voices or ideas that might change the status quo.

According to Ejiofor, the main issue isn’t the state creation itself but the threat of losing political control.

Ejiofor expressed confidence that the APC is poised to take control of Delta State in the 2027 elections, stressing the importance of inclusivity in the party’s approach to politics.

He emphasized that the people of Anioma, not some political bigwigs who are already in comfort zones, will ultimately determine the future direction of the region.

PRO- ANIOMA CREATION GROUP, “DE BELIEVERS”, RALLIES SUPPORT FOR NED NWOKO

The renewed quest for the creation of Anioma state championed by Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National got a boost weekend at Asaba,Delta state capital as a pressure group known as De Believers organization emerged to help drive the Anioma agenda.

Over 200 socio -cultural and sectarian groups including traditional institution, youth bodies, faith based institutions and civil society organizations across the country have earlier formed a bulwark in solidarity with Senator Ned Nwoko towards the actualization of Anioma, following a bill the outstanding federal lawmaker initiated last year on the floor of the Senate

At the inauguration of the De Believers group at Asaba ,stakeholders drawn from various communities in the 9 local government areas of Delta North and different political affiliations affirmed their support to Senator Nwoko’s advocacy for the creation of Anioma.

The convener of De Believers group Hon. Nicholas Ossai Ossai ,former member of House of Representatives ,Ndokwa/ Ukwuani federal constituency said the body stands in the forefront of Anioma state creation movement and aligned strongly with the ” patriotic and noble efforts ” Senator Ned Nwoko who had rekindled the age old quest spanning over 50 years.

Hon Ossai Ossai noted that Anioma remained a compelling historical desire acceptable to all as the pathway to social , economic and political Renaissance of Anioma people.

He commended Senator Ned Nwoko for “his foresight and doggedness in igniting the glow of Anioma agitation” and urged unity and oneness from all to make the dream a reality.

Speaking in an interview, the head Senator Ned Nwoko senatorial office Asaba, High Chief Ugo Asibelue said Senator Nwoko was “selflessly and irrevocably committed to the actualization of Anioma which culminated in the much celebrated Anioma stakeholders summit held last year at the Delta state capital.

Various stakeholders at the maiden meeting of the De Believers group called for cooperation from all quarters and said the Anioma movement was a proper step towards ensuring equitable representation and balanced regional development.

They further noted that creating additional states, including Anioma State will not only bring equality in the region but also address issues like insecurity, hunger, poverty and unemployment.

The group commended Senator Ned Nwoko for his impactful representation and pushing the bill for Anioma State Creation project which has garnered significant backing from thousands of stakeholders within and outside the State.

Beyond Sentiment: Aniocha Should Embrace Change In 2027

The principle of power rotation is a healthy convention that fosters fairness, equity, and inclusive growth.

Delta State’s power rotation model, wherein the governorship alternates among the three senatorial districts, Delta North, Delta Central, and Delta South stands as a stellar example. This arrangement has promoted equity, stability, and balanced development, ensuring that each district has the opportunity to produce a governor.

Within the Aniocha/Oshimili constituency, until the recent emergence of Hon Lawrence Ngozi Okolie from Oshimili South, Aniocha North and South have more often held the House of Representatives seat since 1999.In the saddle were Hon Paschal Adigwe (South)Hon Joan Onyemechi{South)Hon Ned Nwoko(North),with Hon. Ndudi Elumelu being a prominent representative. While the various leaderships and contributions are undeniably commendable, the prolonged representation by Aniocha North and South local governments raises pertinent questions about fairness and equity within the constituency.

Adopting power rotation in the Aniocha/Oshimili constituency presents a range of significant benefits. One of the foremost advantages is the promotion of equity and fairness. By embracing this practice, leadership opportunities are distributed more evenly across all local governments, ensuring that no single area dominates representation.

Moreover, power rotation fosters inclusive growth by encouraging participation from diverse areas within the constituency. This approach broadens representation, allowing for a variety of perspectives and ideas to shape governance.

Likewise, it serves as a safeguard against marginalisation. By guaranteeing that every local government has a voice in leadership decisions, power rotation ensures that all groups within the constituency feel valued and included in the political process.

As the 2027 elections draw nearer, Aniocha/Oshimili constituency is presented with a unique opportunity to embrace change and uphold the principles of power rotation. This change would ensure that all local governments within the constituency are granted an equal platform to contribute to leadership. In doing so, new ideas, perspectives, and energies can be infused into governance, benefiting the entire constituency.

Stakeholders must reflect on the importance of power rotation as the elections approach. By adopting this convention, Aniocha/Oshimili constituency can advance inclusive growth, diversity, and representation. This will not only ensure fairness but also lead to a more equitable and developed community.
At the end of Hon Ngozi Okolie’s first tenure, most constituents are confident that the score card will justify the means when compared with the achievements of his predecessors
.

It is time for Aniocha to rise above sentiment, prioritise collective progress, and embrace the transformational benefits of equitable representation. The greater good of the constituency must take precedence in 2027.

We have not borrowed since Oborevwori took over – Delta Govt

Delta State Government, Friday, reiterated that it had not borrowed any money since Governor Sheriff Oborevwori took over governance in the state on May 29, 2023.

The State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Fidelis Tilije who disclosed this at a press conference in Asaba, said contrary to reports by an online news medium, the State Government had not entered into any borrowing relationship with any institution.

According to him, “this state has not entered into any borrowing relationship whatsoever, whether partnership, individual, corporate, bank, local, national or international. We have not borrowed a dime since this administration took effect on the 29th of May, 2023.

“I can state categorically in any forum I found myself, that Delta State remains, in terms of financial terms, the strongest financial state standing in this country.

“I say so with every emphasis because I know the finances of the state, and I say that we are clearly, clearly the strongest financial state in Nigeria.

“I can stand this debate at any point in time, because I know the balances as I speak to you today. I know the efforts that are being made by this administration.

“We stand categorically, heads up, to state that this administration has not borrowed a dime since 29th of May, 2023.

“We have paid so much in terms of construction, we have made sure that all debts are being paid down as seriously as we can.

“We have also improved in terms of contractual relationship with our contractors. Before now, it is difficult for us to give our contractors advanced payments.

“But as I speak, virtually all of the major contracts we have now, we have actually offered between 30% to 40% in terms of advanced payment.

“Indeed, the last discussion I had with the Governor, we are even thinking that for this particular dry season, we are going to be paying up to 70% advance payment.

“Because of the inflationary trends in Nigeria, we don’t want to be caught up in it at all. We do not want to review any contract whatsoever as we move on in this dry season.

“We want to take advantage of the dry season to do as much as we can and in terms of creating value for money for Deltans, the inspections that he has carried out are actually giving out so much to you and I.

“We need to understand his effort in trying to ensure that there are funding for all contracts that we have given and in all relationships that are actually being entered into by this administration.

“I state once again, categorically, as Commissioner for Finance, Delta State, that we have not borrowed any one kobo from any institution whatsoever since 29th of May, 2023.

“I also state categorically, and I am willing to stand anywhere to debate it, that we are the strongest states in terms of finance in this country.”

On his part, the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu described Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as a man of impeccable integrity who has demonstrated a lot of transparency in the running of the affairs of the state.

“We have read out a number of projects that we have embarked upon in the last 19 and half months, and that all those projects are being funded by the funds that are at the disposal of the state, and that at no time in the last 19 and a half months has the state made any move to ask anybody to give us money in form of loan.

“We are only using what is available to us that comes in from our entire state. we have not at any time borrowed a penny, and so we were surprised when we saw a report in one of the online platforms suggesting that we are number one in terms of borrowing.

“We don’t know where that came from because as a state we are on a platform of solid liquidity. We are not only liquid, but we are solidly liquid to be able to deal with the problems that we have and that tells you the management skills of the Oborevwori administration,” he said.

Senator Nwoko’s actions, decisions demonstrates commitment to advancement of Delta North

By AUSTIN OYIBODE

Senator Ned Nwoko has long been recognized as a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, especially in the context of the Delta North. His contributions to the growth and development of the region have been noteworthy. As a member of the Senate, Nwoko’s actions and decisions have demonstrated his commitment to the advancement of Delta North, a region that has faced numerous challenges in terms of infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development.

Nwoko’s contributions to the growth and development of Delta North APC can be assessed across several key areas, including political leadership, infrastructural development, human capital development, and economic empowerment.

  1. Political Leadership and Unity

One of the key contributions Senator Nwoko will make to the Delta North APC is his ability to unify and strengthen the party within the region. Delta North, like many other parts of Nigeria, has a diverse and sometimes fragmented political landscape, with various factions often prioritizing regional, ethnic, and personal interests. As a seasoned politician, Nwoko has the experience and influence to build bridges across these divides and unite various stakeholders within the APC. This unity is essential for ensuring that the party is strong enough to challenge its political rivals and provide effective governance for the people of Delta North.

By promoting intra-party harmony, Nwoko can help the APC create a more cohesive and effective political structure that is able to mobilize voters, advocate for policy changes, and provide a clear vision for the future of Delta North. His leadership in this regard could also inspire more individuals from Delta North to join the APC, helping to expand the party’s grassroots support.

  1. Infrastructure Development

Infrastructure remains one of the most pressing issues in Delta North, as in many parts of Nigeria. Poor road networks, inadequate transportation systems, insufficient power supply, and lack of basic amenities are major obstacles to development in the region. Nwoko, given his experience and position in the Senate, has already demonstrated an understanding of these challenges and the need for targeted interventions.

One of the ways Nwoko could contribute to the growth and development of Delta North APC is by leveraging his position to secure funding for infrastructural projects in the region. By advocating for the construction and rehabilitation of roads, bridges, and public facilities, Nwoko can improve the quality of life for residents and create an environment conducive to economic activities. As an incoming member of the APC, he can also ensure that Delta North’s infrastructural needs are included in national development plans, working to attract both public and private investments into the region.

  1. Human Capital Development

For a region like Delta North, which has a growing youth population, human capital development is essential for long-term growth. Senator Nwoko’s contributions could focus on improving access to quality education, healthcare, and skills development. Through his influence, Nwoko can advocate for the establishment if vocational training centers, and health facilities in Delta North, helping to reduce the skills gap and improve overall health outcomes in the region.

Nwoko’s efforts could also focus on promoting the empowerment of young people and women in Delta North. By supporting initiatives that promote entrepreneurship, small business development, and job creation, he could play a pivotal role in reducing unemployment and poverty in the region. Furthermore, his position in the Senate would give him the opportunity to push for policies that directly benefit young people, such as funding for education, youth training programs, and access to capital for small businesses.

  1. Economic Empowerment and Growth

Economic empowerment is another area where Senator Nwoko could have a significant impact. Delta North, like much of Nigeria, suffers from limited economic opportunities, particularly in the rural areas. By advocating for policies that encourage investment in agriculture, and other key sectors, Nwoko can help create jobs and boost local economies. As the region is blessed with rich agricultural resources, initiatives that promote agribusiness and sustainable farming can be key drivers of economic growth.

Through his position in the Senate, Nwoko would also work to ensure that Delta North receives its fair share of government grants and support programs aimed at stimulating economic development. Additionally, by fostering partnerships between the government and private sector, he can create a conducive environment for business growth and innovation in Delta North, leading to a more prosperous region.

  1. Advocacy and Representation

Finally, one of the most important contributions Senator Nwoko would make to the growth and development of Delta North APC is his advocacy on behalf of the region at the national level. As a representative of the people, Senator Nwoko is in a unique position to bring the concerns and aspirations of Delta North to the attention of the federal government. Whether it is through legislative initiatives, lobbying for federal projects, or raising awareness about regional issues, Nwoko can ensure that Delta North’s interests are adequately represented and prioritized.

By aligning the APC’s national objectives with the specific needs of Delta North, Senator Nwoko can play a crucial role in ensuring that the region benefits from the policies and programs of the federal government. His ability to represent the people effectively will strengthen the party’s image in the region and attract more supporters.

Senator Ned Nwoko’s contributions to the growth and development of Delta North APC will be far-reaching and impactful. His leadership, focus on infrastructure, commitment to human capital development, emphasis on economic empowerment, and strong advocacy for the region will significantly advance the party’s objectives in the region. With Nwoko at the helm, Delta North APC stands to gain a powerful voice in national politics, and the people of Delta North are likely to experience a more prosperous and developed future.

Why Delta does not owe contractors – Aniagwu

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, said the State Government does not owe contractors because Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was determined to ensure quality and timely delivery of projects across the state.

Aniagwu disclosed this yesterday during the inspection of multiple road projects in Sapele metropolis, including the failed portions of the Okirighwre – Benin Road, Okirighwre – Amukpe Road, Shell Road Extension, and Hausa Road Extension.

Aniagwu, who was accompanied by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, commended property owners on the right of way for cooperating with the government to ensure quality road construction in the overall interest of the public.

“He said, “I am happy that the contractors themselves are on site and they are also progressing speedily. You do know that my boss, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has made it clear that we will not owe contractors.

“As we are mobilizing them, we are paying for certificates and all: so, what we expect from them is to reciprocate that gesture coming from the government.

“We realize that what exists between us and these contractors is partnership, a partnership that must work. As a government, we represent the people of Delta in that partnership.

Aniagwu added, “What we owe them is to be able to pay them for the jobs they are doing, and what they owe us is to be able to deliver according to specification, and also on schedule.

“So, the reason why we are visiting these projects is to ensure that
this partnership is working, and that is to the extent that the contractor is expected to deliver according to specification as stated in the Bill of Engineering Measurement.

“We are very, very particular about those quantities because those quantities control the amount of funds that we usually deploy for the construction of these different projects.

“We have pointed out a number of some areas where they need to make amends. In some places, we have informed them that they need to demolish certain aspects of their drains, and that is with immediate effect.

“But, on the whole, we are impressed with the speed of work and the fact that they are indeed also realizing that that partnership must work.

“The Governor has made it very clear that on no account are we going to sacrifice quality on the altar of friendship and that I have also cautioned those who work with me to ensure that the highest engineering standards are maintained.”

Senator Nwaoboshi: Sabotaging President Tinubu’s Efforts to Strengthen APC?

-By Udochukwuka Ogheleka
APC founding Member Delta North

As the All Progressives Congress (APC) works tirelessly to broaden its political base and restore its footing across the nation, particularly in Delta State, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi’s actions and utterances raise questions about his commitment to these goals. Rather than embracing unity and progress, his divisive approach appears to undermine the strides being made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other dedicated party members.

The APC at the federal level, under the visionary leadership of President Tinubu, has made it a priority to welcome formidable and result-oriented politicians into its fold. A clear example is the party’s readiness to collaborate with Distinguished Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, a serving senator whose political clout, national influence, and ability to galvanize support make him an invaluable asset.

However, Senator Nwaoboshi, a former senator with a track record of electoral defeats in Delta North, seems more concerned with holding on to a crumbling legacy of leadership than fostering the unity needed to rejuvenate the party. Instead of extending a hand of fellowship to a distinguished figure like Senator Nwoko, who has consistently advanced the interest of the people through legislative excellence, he resorts to rhetoric that serves only to deepen divisions and weaken the APC in Delta North.

Electoral Failures Under Nwaoboshi’s Watch

Under Nwaoboshi’s leadership, the APC in Delta North has suffered a string of humiliating defeats. The party’s poor showing in the polls is a direct reflection of a leadership style that prioritizes personal ambitions over collective progress. Rather than building the party, Senator Nwaoboshi’s tenure has been marred by stagnation and a lack of strategic direction.

In stark contrast, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko has demonstrated a deep commitment to addressing critical national issues, from malaria eradication to recycling waste and promoting sustainable energy solutions. His leadership in the Senate has not gone unnoticed by the presidency, as his motions and bills have consistently garnered attention and support. Welcoming such a personality into the APC fold is not only strategic but vital for the party’s future success in Delta North.

Time to Embrace Change

Senator Nwaoboshi should recognize the winds of change blowing through the APC. His role should be that of a statesman, ready to welcome Senator Nwoko, a serving senator with the influence and drive needed to reverse the party’s fortunes in Delta North. Anything less is a disservice to President Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen the APC.

By attempting to cling to an outdated hierarchy and resisting progress, Senator Nwaoboshi is doing more harm than good. His actions risk alienating party faithfuls and weakening the APC’s chances of reclaiming its lost glory in Delta North. It is time for him to set aside personal ambitions and prioritize the collective good of the party.

The Path Forward

The APC in Delta North stands at a crossroads. It can either embrace the visionary leadership and inclusive politics that Senator Nwoko brings or remain trapped in the cycle of defeat and division under Nwaoboshi. The choice is clear: unity, progress, and victory lie in welcoming Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko to the fold.

President Tinubu’s efforts to build a stronger APC must not be sabotaged by outdated leadership. Senator Nwaoboshi must rise above personal pride, acknowledge his shortcomings, and prepare to work hand in hand with Senator Nwoko. Together, they can lead the APC to new heights in Delta North and beyond.

Senator Nwoko’s Aide, Okolugbo describes PDP as a “lifeless carcass”

In a scathing critique of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Director of Communications to Senator Ned Nwoko, the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, in the National Assembly (NASS), Hon. Gloria Okolugbo, has described the once-dominant political party, PDP as a “lifeless carcass,”.

She said this signals the growing dissatisfaction among prominent members and the public with the party’s current state.

The Director of Communications spoke with journalists on Tuesday January 22, 2025, in Asaba, the Delta State capital without mincing no words in outlining the party’s failures, accusing it of losing touch with its foundational principles and the Nigerian people.

Hear her: “But there is the need certainly to make the people understand that what you think you are carrying, and you think you are carrying a structure for PDP. It’s a carcass.

“Sooner or later, it will show that it’s a carcass. Is there any time that you go into an uncompleted building to stay and it will feel like it’s a mansion?

“It’s a duplex, but it is a carcass. It has been stripped of everything. It has nothing. So though you are saying that it is a duplex, it is the carcass of a duplex.

“So you cannot, where there used to be AC, there is no AC. Where there used to be beds, there is no bed.
So you can go into the carcass of a duplex and sleep on the floor. It will be like you are sleeping in the forest. It’s a carcass that is left, unfortunately.

“For some of us, it is very painful because we built PDP. When some of the people who are enjoying in government now were busy actually collecting names for APC, without explaining to the people why they were collecting the name, they are the ones enjoying the government now ,but we were busy building it.

“So it’s not a very good thing for us,
and I don’t think it was an easy or careless decision that the distinguished senator made.

“It was a carefully considered decision, and he has been going through the process of seeing”, she added.

Senator Ned Nwoko Celebrates Festus Keyamo, SAN, at 55

Renowned politician and philanthropist, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, has joined numerous well-wishers in celebrating the life and achievements of Festus Keyamo, SAN, on his 55th birthday.

In a heartfelt statement made available by his media office, Senator Nwoko praised Keyamo’s exceptional career and unwavering dedication to the progress of Nigeria, describing him as a man whose life is defined by excellence, resilience, and an unyielding commitment to national service.

“Festus Keyamo, SAN, is not just a distinguished lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria; his career is a testament to diligence, vision, and an enduring commitment to the betterment of Nigeria”, the senator remarked.

He further commended Keyamo’s transformative efforts as the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, noting that his leadership is already paving the way for a more robust and globally competitive aviation sector.

The Distinguished lawmaker described the Minister as a symbol of hard work, humility, and purpose-driven leadership. He prayed for divine wisdom, good health, and strength for the celebrant as he continues his impactful service to Nigeria.

“At 55, Festus stands as an example of what is possible with hard work, humility, and a clear sense of purpose. My family and I pray that this new year brings him good health, wisdom, and the strength to continue his invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s progress”, he added.

Senator Ned Nwoko Sets People-Centred Agenda for Representation

Senator Ned Nwoko has made it clear that his leadership is anchored on a people-centered agenda, prioritizing the needs and aspirations of the good people of Delta North. His commitment to Anioma’s development and representation remains unwavering, even amidst the barrage of attacks and distractions that have plagued the political space.

It is important to remind the Anioma people that these political skirmishes are not new, especially within the PDP, where internal conflicts have often overshadowed the true purpose of governance. Now, even as Senator Nwoko takes deliberate and informed steps towards joining the APC, jitters and baseless accusations are already emerging from those who feel threatened by his leadership and vision.

Senator Nwoko’s leadership role, earned through his dedication to service and his position as the highest elected officer in Delta North, places him at the forefront of political discourse. His focus, however, remains on the people—ensuring that his constituency receives its rightful share of development and opportunities.

It must be emphasized that Senator Ned Nwoko is a globally recognized leader and an accomplished individual. He is not seeking personal gains or contracts; his deliberate exit from the PDP and his strategic move toward the APC are entirely motivated by his desire to better serve Delta North. These steps are informed by his goal of ensuring that Anioma people get what is due to them in the grander scheme of national development.

Senator Nwoko has reiterated that his actions are for the collective good of Anioma land. His vision is for the region to achieve greater autonomy and independence, which aligns with the aspirations of creating a new state for Anioma people. This is a cause that requires unity, commitment, and an unwavering focus on the future.

We, therefore, call on all Delta Northerners to remain informed, united, and steadfast in their support for this collective vision. The road ahead requires collaboration and dedication, and under Senator Nwoko’s leadership, Anioma stands poised to achieve greater heights and lasting progress.

Beyond Media Frenzy: Call For Constructive Criticism Of Hon. Okolie

By Osita Biose

The media has been awash with repetitive allegations of poor performance by member representing Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency of Delta State in the Nigerian National Assembly, Hon. Ngozi Okolie.

This persistent barrage of criticism seems like a broken record, leaving one to wonder why some individuals have suddenly targeted him. The situation bears an uncanny resemblance to the biblical tale of “the hand of Esau and the voice of Jacob,” where deception and manipulation are employed to achieve a hidden agenda.

Media trials are unethical, unhealthy, and often used as a means to attract attention. Rather than focusing on constructive criticism, some individuals resort to character assassination, mudslinging, and avoidable acrimonies. This approach not only undermines the integrity of our political system but also creates unnecessary tension among stakeholders.

As concerned citizens of Aniocha/Oshimili, we should strive to promote a culture of constructive criticism, acknowledging the achievements of our leaders while addressing areas that require improvement. It’s essential to recognize that every politician undergoes a vetting process before being allowed to contest, ensuring that candidates meet specific requirements and standards.

In light of this, “holier-than-thou” criticism should be jettisoned. Rather than indulging in destructive criticism, it would be more honorable for individuals to prepare for the 2027 elections. This approach would demonstrate a genuine commitment to democratic participation and a willingness to engage in constructive dialogue.

Let us channel our energies into promoting a positive image and culture, engaging in civil discussions, and working towards repositioning our politicians for the greater good. By adopting this approach, we can create a more conducive environment for democratic growth, where leaders are held accountable for their actions, and citizens are empowered to participate in the decision-making process.

Oborevwori: Ensuring value for Delta’s projects -By Festus Ahon

Few appointees of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State ever anticipated that project inspections would feature on a Sunday itinerary. However, that was exactly what happened last Sunday when, after church service, the Governor embarked on an unscheduled inspection of projects within Asaba and its environs.

At the proposed Asaba International Market, Governor Oborevwori assured that the state would experience accelerated project delivery in 2025. He noted that the site which was formerly the Abraka Market, had become a hotspot for criminal activities, before the state government relocated the market to Oko.

“The State Government decided to relocate the market to Oko and we have made arrangements with Efab Properties Limited to develop this place.

“The state government is getting 20 percent because we are providing land and they are to build and allocate but we will get 20 percent from it and it’s something that we encourage”, he said.

At the Asaba Waterfront City Project, on Tuesday, Governor Oborevwori, said that it was conceived by the previous administration through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. He said the state government’s role was to construct a 6-lane access road to the new city, while the developers were expected to develop the city.

He said: “Asaba is becoming very attractive to property developers who are coming from Lagos to Asaba because Asaba today is housing most of those people from the South-East. They are coming here because they find Asaba very comfortable and they know that we are also hospitable.

“The Asaba Waterfront City Project is a Public/ Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement between the state government and the developers.

“Our obligation is to reclaim the place to give them an access route, a six-lane access road, to this place. They have done about 20 percent of this job; the challenge they are having is the buildings on the right of way.

“We have released money for compensation to the property owners and we have also released funds to the contractor for the project. They have assured us they will complete the road project in July; so, I have come here to look at the work that has been done and I am happy that they are on site.”

At the Oko-Amakom to Oko-Obiakpu main alignment road, the governor said, “this road is very important to the people of Oko; it is one meter above the 2012 flood level and the people sought refuge on the road during the last flood.

“The contractor has assured us that the project will be completed in June/July this year. What we are spending here on this road is much more than what we would have spent in constructing a 10km road elsewhere because of the terrain.

“It is our strong commitment towards opening up rural areas to enhance the economic development of our rural dwellers.”

On the Marine Road, Off Cable Point Road, Asaba, Governor Oborevwori said the road was very vital to the people of Asaba because goods are ferried from across the River Niger.

He assured that the State Government was working hard to clean up Asaba, stressing, “we want the best for them and I believe that this year a lot will change.”

Governor Oborevwori also inspected the ongoing construction work on Leo Okonweze and Odozi-Obodo streets, off Ezenei Avenue, in Asaba, and urged the contractors to expedite completion of the projects.

Vows to sanction erring contractors

Also on Tuesday, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori reiterated that he was out for erring contractors who execute shoddy jobs for the state and vowed severe sanctions for them and site engineers who okay shoddy jobs for payment.

Governor Oborevwori issued the warning shortly after inspecting the Achalla-Ibusa Road being executed by the state government. The Governor, who frowned at the poor quality drainage executed by the contractor handling the project, reiterated that his administration would not tolerate any shoddy job.

He disclosed that his decision to inspect the project stemmed from an unsatisfactory feedback he had received from individuals that he had previously sent to evaluate the project.

Governor Oborevwori, who also inspected the recently completed internal roads road in the 63 Brigade Barracks of the Nigerian Army in Aboh-Ogwashi, applauded the contractor for the speedy execution of the project for which, he said, was awarded three months ago.

“We awarded this project three months ago, and I am pleased to commend the contractor for doing an excellent job. This road will encourage further development, allowing the Army to proceed with building structures in the area,” he said.

Other projects inspected by the Governor included the gully erosion site along Okpanam-Ibusa bypass, the perimeter fence and road around Asaba International Airport as well as Kwekagbor Layout, opposite Summit Junction, Asaba.

…urges Nigerians to support families of fallen heroes

On Wednesday, the Governor participated in the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony held at the Cenotaph in Asaba and urged Nigerians to support families of fallen heroes.

Governor Oborevwori, who led other top government functionaries, military, and paramilitary personnel to lay wreaths in honour of the nation’s fallen heroes, said: “My prayer is for God to grant the souls of our fallen heroes eternal rest and also to console with their families,” the governor said.

“I want to reassure their families that they will never be neglected. Whichever way we can support them, we will continue to support the widows and also those in the forefront today”.

…Says he won’t sacrifice quality jobs for friendship

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Thursday, said his administration’s priority remained the delivery of quality projects aimed at giving value to the people, regardless of personal relationships.

Speaking during the inspection of multiple projects in Asaba, the state capital, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that competence, integrity and value- for- money were critical to his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

The projects inspected included Ogbeosonwe Ogbeilo road, Ogbogonogo market storm drainage project and Ogbe-Ofu Road, off Jarret Road, Cable Point, Asaba.

Others are the Amaechi Agusi Street with 10 adjoining streets, Dorah Allanah Street, Oluu Street, Burutu Drive, off Infant Jesus Road, Odilison Junior Crescent, Agbogun Close, Ngozi Odiaka Avenue, Aloy Isomede Street, Ezeobi Ojukwu Street, and Ajudua Street, Okpanam, Aretha Table Water Street, Off NTA Road, Asaba, and Redeemer’s Street Asaba.

Governor Oborevwori said, “I was elected to serve the people of Delta, not to please a select few. Friendship cannot, and will, not, take precedence over the quality of projects we provide for the people.

“Contractors in the state know that; I have always emphasized the need for quality jobs but the people who are causing this problem are not the big companies; it is some of our indigenous contractors that are causing these problems.”

…Says actions guided by Delta’s overall interests

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Friday, said all his actions as governor were guided by the interest of the people and assured that no one would short change the state under his watch.

Oborevwori disclosed this at the 50th birth anniversary thanksgiving of the Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Engr Emeka Nwaobi, at St. Paul’s Catholic Cathedral, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of the state.

While commending the celebrant on his empowerment programme for the people, Governor Oborevwori urged people in authority to always remember the widows and the other less- privileged persons in the society.

He said; “As people in authority, we must do what we will be remembered for; so, I am happy that you are empowering people from your constituency.

“We have so many people today who don’t want the progress of this state. What we are doing now some people are not happy because they feel we want to outshine them.

“But we will always do what the people want; for us, it is the people first, Delta first. All these positions are temporary; the thing you will be remembered for is the service you rendered and I am doing my own now.

“Like I told people, the state’s contractors, nobody is my friend because the people who voted for me want the best from me.

“It is me, the people, will ask questions, not you as a contractor; so, some people may not be happy, but that is their business. At the end, I will be remembered for the good things that I achieved for them.”

Nwoko’s Political Shift: What It Means for 2027 .By Emmanuel Enebeli

  • By Emmanuel Enebeli

Senator Ned Nwoko’s anticipated defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) signals a significant shift in Delta State’s political landscape and poses critical questions about the balance of power ahead of the 2027 elections.

This development highlights the dissatisfaction within the PDP and the strategic maneuvering by the APC to consolidate its influence in the South-South region.

The defection, while still in its consultative phase, has already sparked intense debate on its implications for both Senator Nwoko’s political career and the broader political dynamics in Delta state.

One of the most notable aspects of this move is the light it sheds on the internal crises within the PDP. Senator Nwoko’s displeasure with the PDP, according to him, stems from factionalization of the party, lack of internal democracy, a development which the party’s congress validates.

There are allegations of no transparency in governance and no accountable use of resources, just as there is no clear trace of modeling representational democracy, which ensures balance of power between the three arms of government.

Senator Nwoko’s grievances, including the inability to fund critical projects like the Okpai IPP stepdown and the Ogwashi-Uku dam, reflect a broader discontent that could weaken the PDP’s grassroots support in Delta North, a region historically vital to its electoral successes.

For the APC, his defection represents an opportunity to capitalize on the disarray within the PDP. The APC’s internal divisions in Delta State have long been a hindrance to its competitiveness.

However, the inclusion of a high-profile figure like Nwoko, with his grassroots appeal and developmental agenda, could serve as a unifying force for the party.

His entry might encourage the various factions within the APC to close ranks and work towards a common goal, particularly in the Delta North Senatorial District, where his influence is strongest.

From a strategic standpoint, Nwoko’s move could redefine the 2027 electoral dynamics in Delta State. Despite the PDP’s dominance in the state, the 2023 elections revealed vulnerabilities, as evidenced by former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s poor showing in the Delta North LGAs during the presidential election.

This underperformance, contrasted with Nwoko’s ability to secure his senatorial victory under the same conditions, underscores his unique appeal and the potential for an upset if he eventually aligns with the APC.

Furthermore, his planned defection raises critical questions about federal attention to Delta North. By joining the ruling party, he positions himself to advocate, more effectively, federal support on issues like electricity and water infrastructure.

His consultative approach and pragmatic stance on development could attract federal investment to the area, addressing long-standing grievances of marginalization and fostering socio-economic growth.

For the PDP, Senator Nwoko’s departure would be a significant blow, particularly as he is the only PDP Senator from Delta State. Losing such a prominent figure could further erode the party’s credibility and weaken its organizational structure in the state.

To mitigate this, the PDP must address internal grievances and rebuild trust among its stakeholders, particularly in Delta North, where dissatisfaction with the state government’s performance is palpable.

In Delta North, his defection could reinvigorate the APC’s fortunes, potentially transforming the district into a battleground for the 2027 elections.

His emphasis on infrastructure development and his ability to connect with constituents on pressing issues give him a distinct advantage above his rivals. This shift could also challenge the PDP’s dominance in other parts of Delta State, as political allegiances begin to realign in anticipation of the elections.

Finally, Nwoko’s defection is a reminder of the evolving nature of Nigerian politics. As he consults with his constituents and prepares for the next phase of his political journey, his move underscores the importance of performance and accountability in securing public trust.

For those writing off Senator Ned Nwoko in 2027, the dynamics of his defection and his track record suggest otherwise. Facts are indeed sacred, and the coming years will reveal the full impact of this strategic decision.

Tension in Delta PDP over Senator Ned Nwoko‘s plans to defect to APC

PDP/APC

There is palpable tension in the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, following advanced plans by Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Arise TV on Saturday night, Senator Nwoko’s Director of Communications, Hon. Gloria Okolugbo, said her principal had indicated interest to leave the PDP and had briefed critical stakeholders of Delta North, his teeming supporters  and constituents on the move.

Hon Okolugbo said Senator Nwoko came prepared to serve and deliver the dividends of good governance to Anioma people, but that regrettably he had not enjoyed the cooperation and support of his party the PDP in pursuit of his vision, even as the only PDP Senator in Delta State.

She cited instances of frustration from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the PDP to include refusal to assist in funding the Okpai IPP stepdown to supply electricity to no fewer than 60 communities in Delta North and the Ogwashi-Uku dam to provide water to the community and the environs.

Okolugbo explained that Senator Nwoko believed that it was no use remaining in a party where his electioneering campaign promises to the people of Delta North could hardly be fulfilled despite the marginalization the zone had suffered in the past.

The Communications Director blamed PDP in Delta for lacking internal democracy, disclosing that Senator Nwoko would make his defection public anytime soon.

In her words: “What I can tell you is that today Senator Ned Nwoko held a consultative meeting with his constituents to inform them of his interest to defect from the People’s Democratic Party.

“There has been a lot of processes that he has gone through trying to speak to the internal party structures to see that the issues that we have in Delta North are resolved.

“One of the key reasons for which a legislator or a serving member can defect is factionalization. You don’t have to see violence before you know there’s factionalization in the party.

“And as we move ahead, it’s very important for us to strengthen the democratic institutions. Representative democracy is actually about balance of power, transparency in governance and accountable use of resources.”

Hon. Okolugbo who traced the history of PDP in Delta North said Great Ovedje Ogboru, a former stalwart of Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) dominated the region prior to PDP taking over the Anioma land.

“So it took a lot of groundwork and a lot of service to the people before we got PDP to become the predominant party of Delta State that delivered the last set of votes.

“Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko was on the field even after he had won his elections, promising the electorate that together they would deliver the dividends of god governance, because this is about representative democracy.”

Okolugbo lamented that with all the promises the Senator made and is ready to actualise, the issues of political hijacking, factionalisation, and other pomitical power plays were derailing the process of fulfiling the promises.

“And somebody like Senator Ned Nwoko, who is well-traveled and exposed and having made promises that basic infrastructure like water, electricity, irrigation for farming and food security will happen. But now after election, powers are not allowing these things to materialise.

“The plan to step down electricity to the people of the area is bogged down by all manner of politics. And the Distinguished Senator Nwoko says I want to deliver this, at least in my time because when we have this, all the adjoining communities will have access to almost 24 hours electricity.”

Okolugbo said despite these laudable plans of the Senator and the suggestions to get them done and delivered, there have been brickwalls from the part of the state governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.

Asked whether Senator Nwoko would leave the PDP, she said: “Senator Nwoko is going to decamp. He had a consultative meeting with his constituents. Yes, he’s going to decamp”.

The communication director added that Senator Nwoko is joining the president’s party, the All Progressive Congress (APC). Her reasons are clear.

Okolugbo revealed that Senator Nwoko’s engagement with APC aligns with his commitment to delivering on his electoral promises. She cited the senator’s constructive suggestions to the federal government, which have been well-received by the president, as further motivation for his move.

“Senator Nwoko believes he can achieve more for his constituents by aligning with the president’s party. His defection is not just about politics; it is about ensuring development and accountability,” Okolugbo explained.

While the formal announcement of his defection is still pending, Saturday’s consultation indicates that Senator Nwoko is taking deliberate steps to ensure the transition reflects the will of his constituents.

Nwoko’s defection, when finalized, is expected to alter the political landscape in Delta state and beyond. The move could strengthen APC’s foothold in Delta North, a traditionally PDP-dominated region. It also underscores the growing dissatisfaction among lawmakers over internal party dynamics and governance challenges.

As Senator Nwoko prepares to finalize his decision, all eyes are on Delta North, where his constituents’ input will ultimately shape the next chapter of his political journey.

As it is now, Delta PDP has lost all three Senators to the ruling APC, a development that could spell doom for the PDP in Delta state.

Alleged defection: Count me out – Oborevwori

…My covenant to do more for Deltans stands

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has said that he had no plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that his covenant to do more for Deltans stands.

The Governor spoke through the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu at a live television programme monitored in Asaba.

He said those peddling the rumours that Governor Oborevwori wants to move to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were only wishing that he comes to swell up their ranks.

“Governor Oborevwori is not only a proud member of the PDP and remains a leader of PDP, both in Delta and in Nigeria.

“He is also a performing governor who has also been able to show that he can be regarded as the poster governor for the PDP. And so those who are wishing that he is jumping ship, we want to tell them that Oborevwori is not in the business of jumping.

“Apart from that, I am also happy that even following your recognition and by way of nomination as among those who are performing, that Oborevwori is trying to let Nigerians know that the PDP have the strength to deliver, even as we continue to cooperate with the president of Nigeria, because at the moment he does not have any opponent as a president.

“When the governor declared that he needed to support the president, even as they support the governor for the purpose of bringing good governance, it was in the spirit of patriotism not on the platform of looking for where to jump to.

“Today, Tinubu is the president of Nigeria, and I know nobody is contesting that and so if Tinubu does not have an opponent as a President, because he is no longer a presidential candidate, when in 2027, and we are going into election, we can begin to talk about those who want to challenge Tinubu.

Today, he is the president. We have an enlightened self-interest that the success of Tinubu cascades into the success of any governor in Nigeria.

“In Delta, we are not in the business of fighting constitutional authority. We’re always in the business of supporting those in authority, because by so doing, we are also bringing development to our people.

“Oborevwori remains in the PDP, he did not even dream, not to talk of the reality of leaving the party. Those who are rumoring, like you said, are very free to rumor and are very free to wish, wish is very free, that he comes to swell up their party but for us in the PDP, we know that Oborevwori will remain a poster governor.”

On developments in the state, Aniagwu said Governor Oborevwori was fulfilling his administration’s promise to deliver more projects for the people.

He remarked that while continuing and completing inherited projects, his administration has also initiated and completed lots of projects across the three Senatorial districts.

He listed some of the legacy projects to include the Beneku bridge in Ndokwa East, Orere bridge in Ughelli South, Ayakoromo bridge in Burutu LGA, Trans-Warri Roads and bridges as well as Warri and Effurun flyovers being executed by Julius Berger.

“Aside these laudable projects, we have several completed road projects like the Emevor-Orogun road, Okpanam-Ibusa bypass, Isheagu-Ewulu Road, Ezesi road dualisation in Orerokpe as well as Ohorhe-Adagbrasa-Ugolo-Okuodiete road among others.”

OPINION: Why Nwaoboshi’s Position on Delta North Senatorial Zoning in 2027 is Defective

By Unue Emeka

The postulations by former Delta North Senator and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, on the zoning formula for the Delta North Senatorial District are both illogical and unjust. These claims, if adopted, could create a grave imbalance and perpetuate the marginalization of the Aniocha/Oshimili people, whose significant contributions to Delta North politics cannot be overlooked.

To begin with, Nwaoboshi’s argument appears simplistic, as it fails to consider the broader historical and political dynamics of Delta North since the onset of the current democratic dispensation. While he claims to advocate for equity, fairness, and justice, his position outrightly disregards the political plight of Aniocha/Oshimili people, who have borne the brunt of exclusion for years. His suggestion to shut out Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency from contesting the Senate seat in 2027 cannot, by any measure, be considered equitable or just.

Let’s assume, for argument’s sake, that all three blocs in Delta North—Ndokwa, Ika, and Aniocha/Oshimili—have had their fair turns in the Senate. Ndokwa took the first 12 years, followed by Ika, which also had a four-year Senate tenure under Okowa before proceeding to dominate the governorship for eight years. Meanwhile, Aniocha/Oshimili has not enjoyed any proportional power share in the state government or at the federal level in decades. How, then, can this glaring imbalance be ignored, and why should Aniocha/Oshimili continue to bear the weight of marginalization?

Nwaoboshi’s position becomes even more troubling when juxtaposed with Governor Okowa’s administration, which prioritized the Ika nation’s development over other Anioma blocs. Under Okowa, Ika experienced significant infrastructure growth, while Aniocha/Oshimili suffered neglect. Ndokwa, despite some neglect, was compensated with the deputy speakership in the Delta State House of Assembly for eight consecutive years. During this time, Aniocha/Oshimili had no significant representation in either the executive or legislative arms of government.

For someone who preaches equity, Nwaoboshi’s suggestion is nothing short of a contradiction. Aniocha/Oshimili has always supported other blocs in the spirit of fairness, including backing Okowa’s governorship bid, yet they have received little in return. Now, Ndokwa boasts the Deputy Governor’s position in Delta State, further complicating the idea of fairness if they also given the senatorial seat in 2027. Wouldn’t this arrangement unfairly marginalize Aniocha/Oshimili even further?

It’s important to question whether Nwaoboshi’s positions are based on genuine political reasoning or personal vendettas. As a former Delta State PDP Chairman and two-term senator, his record is far from being impressive. Many would argue that the people of Anioma gained little or nothing from his representation, despite the strong mandate he enjoyed. Now, his attempt to impose further restrictions on Aniocha/Oshimili aspirations reeks of political maneuvering rather than sincere advocacy for justice.

The situation becomes even clearer when we consider the current state of Delta North’s political representation. The Ika nation, having produced Okowa as governor for eight years and having had their fair share of Senate representation, should logically step aside for another bloc. Ndokwa, with the Deputy Governor’s position, also cannot justifiably seek the Senate seat without tipping the scales of fairness against Aniocha/Oshimili.

The Aniocha/Oshimili people have been on the fringes of power for far too long, despite their significant contributions to Delta North’s political stability. It is only logical, fair, and equitable for them to produce the next senator come 2027. To continue denying them this opportunity would not only undermine the principles of justice but also create unnecessary tension and disunity among the Anioma people.

Okowa’s eight years as governor and four years in the Senate have adequately compensated the Ika nation. In the same spirit of fairness, Ika leaders should support Aniocha/Oshimili’s bid for the Senate. It is this spirit of mutual respect and cooperation that has sustained Delta North’s political unity, and it should not be abandoned.

Aniocha/Oshimili’s quest for the 2027 Senate in the person of Senator Ned Nwoko is not just about politics, it’s about addressing years of marginalization and ensuring inclusive representation in Delta North. Their political relevance and contributions to the Anioma cause should not be dismissed lightly.

In conclusion, Nwaoboshi’s position on Delta North zoning is deeply flawed and unjust. It fails to consider the historical marginalization of Aniocha/Oshimili and risks perpetuating the very inequities it claims to address. For Delta North to remain united and politically stable, the 2027 senatorial seat should remain in the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituncy and allow Senator Ned Nwoko to complete the tenure. Anything less would be a betrayal of the principles of equity, fairness, and justice that Anioma prides itself on.

Senator Nwoko Invites Youth-Focused Organization for Partnership

Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, renowned for his transformative approach to leadership, has extended a hand of collaboration to the Society for the Welfare of Unemployed Youths of Nigeria (SWUYN).

This significant move aligns with his unrelenting commitment to youth empowerment and socio-economic development in Delta North and across the nation.

In a meeting facilitated by Mr. Eric Ogbekene of E & O Global Konsuktz Ltd and held at the Senator Nwoko’s office in the National Assembly, SWUYN presented its mission to champion the cause of unemployed youths.

Senator Nwoko, impressed by their focus and structure, praised their proactive approach and emphasized the importance of youth-led initiatives.

“It is organizations like SWUYN that demonstrate the power of focus, strategy, and determination in addressing the challenges facing our society. The youth must always remember that action, is the first step to change,” he remarked.

He further demanded that they declare their mission statements which they clearly did. This was to ascertain that he had the right group he sought out.

The Senator has requested SWUYN to outline a detailed framework for a planned collaboration, including strategies for skill acquisition, employment generation, and entrepreneurial development. This plan, once submitted, will serve as the foundation for actionable and impactful initiatives under this partnership.

Hon. Gloria Okolugbo, Director of Communications in the Senator’s office, commended SWUYN for setting a commendable example.

“This partnership demonstrates that when youths organize and present structured solutions, they can attract the support needed to drive real change. It is a model worthy of emulation by other groups across Nigeria,” she stated.

As Senator Nwoko continues to champion youth empowerment, this collaboration is poised to become a beacon of hope and inspiration, showcasing what is possible when vision meets initiative.

Ndokwa Youth Forum hails Senator Ned Nwoko as honest, selfless patriot, berates his predecessor, Peter Nwaoboshi

A socio cultural group, known as Ndokwa Youth Forum has described Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District as an honest and selfless patriot who cannot be compared with his predecessor, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi.

In a statement signed by the President of Ndokwa Youth Forum, Daniel Chukwuji and General Secretary, Eric Jude Oputa, the group expressed dismay over “recent baseless, unwarranted and reckless attacks by Nwaoboshi against Most Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko.”

The body noted that “no reasonable person would ever believe a statement credited to Chief Peter Nwaoboshi in a recent press interview where he falsely claimed to have championed equity as regards power rotation in Delta state especially Delta North commonly known as Anioma.”

Power sharing, according to Ndokwa Forum, “whether in the state or Delta North, has little or nothing to do with Nwaoboshi who, unlike Prince Ned Nwoko, is the least of persons to lay claim to the struggle for equitable distribution of power in Delta.”

The press statement by the group reads :

” Our attention has been drawn to a reckless, inflammatory and vexatious remarks credited to Senator Peter Nwaoboshi where he tried desperately to give false narrative about political developments in the state and Delta North, all mischievously concocted to score cheap political points.

“Even a kindergarten cannot take him serious over his reckless innuendos on the personality of the Most distinguished senator Ned Nwoko.

“Unarguably the most mischievous statement of Nwaoboshi in his incoherent interview was his call that Delta North senate seat should go to Ndokwa in 2027.

“Nwaoboshi’s hypocritical proposition no doubt instantly provokes laughter across the streets of Delta North. It is so ridiculous that a man who never did anything tangible or noble in Anioma land with particular reference to Ndokwa, all through his controversial stay at the senate, other than selfish pursuits, would have the temerity to speak.

“Senatorial power rotation among the three federal constituencies of Delta North- Ndokwa/Ukwuani, Ika and Aniocha/Oshimili, have been reasonably balanced over the years with each part getting her fair share since 1999.This is clearly at variance with Nwaoboshi’s deceptive antics and divisive politics.

“More interesting is that the people of Ndokwa/Ukwuani are generally happy with Senator Ned Nwoko and highly regard him as their active compassionate representative and a good son who has been working for their collective aspirations and needs.

“His efforts on Okpai electricity project, advocacy on environmental degradation and improvement of the living standards of the people of the area have earned him admiration and endorsement as their high performing senator. A feat Nwaoboshi could not achieve as senator, having completely squandered his time at the National Assembly, chasing personal gains to the detriment of Anioma people.

“It is unfortunate that a man who went to prison over a scandalous corruption case had not learnt how to be sober and comport himself with decency and decorum. Instead he is yet to have a break from his ugly past and remained bitter, plotting despicable intrigues and sowing seeds of discord everywhere.

“We also found Nwaoboshi’s postulation, conveyed through one of his minions that he is “educationally, politically and financially superior” to Senator Ned Nwoko, unashamedly bizarre and dishonest.

“It is common knowledge that Senator Ned Nwoko stands as a world – class scholar who attended two of the best universities in the world -University of Keele and King’s College University of London where he earned double honours and a masters degree in law.

“A proud solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales, who capped his amazing legal career as the best black lawyer of African descent before he returned to Nigeria in 1999 to help shape Nigeria’s democracy.

“On the other hand, Nwaoboshi is not known to possess any salutary or significant academic laurel that could in any way compare to Nwoko’s much celebrated scholarly pedigree.

“In politics, he is an opportunist who always rides on the back of people to gain undeserved relevance, using conspiracy and treachery. In contrast, Prince Ned Nwoko earned his mark in Nigeria’s political landscape when he was elected Member House of Representatives, Aniocha/ Oshimili Federal Constituency as far back as 1999-2003, a time when Nwaoboshi was wallowing in servitude and political obscurity.

“Moreover ,Ndokwa Forum views as childish and vain Nwaobosh’s reported boast about financial muscle. The poorest man on earth is a man without honour. Whatever Nwaoboshi has in his pocket means nothing. Unexplained wealth is worthless.

” We are aware that God tremendously blessed Prince Ned Nwoko since the 1990s till date with riches, earned through dint of hard work and grace. He never made his wealth from political office. We urge members of the public to Google and compare the net worth of Prince Ned Nwoko with that of Nwaoboshi

“As a highly successful businessman and architect of Paris club loans refunds, he has selflessly used his God – given resources to improve millions of lives in his immediate environment and across the country.

“Today, he is the founder of a thriving centre of learning and human empowerment, Sports University, which is first of its kind in Nigeria.

“Prince Ned Nwoko remains the black African to visit South Pole which is described as the end of the world. You have to be fearless with a high sense of adventure to undertake such a risky exploration.Ten Peter Nwaoboshis will not attempt such.

” Senator Ned Nwoko is incomparably endowed above the antics of embittered Nwaoboshi and his hirelings. No mortal can curse a man whom God has blessed, ” the group said.

I won’t sacrifice quality jobs for friendship – Oborevwori insists

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Thursday, said his administration’s priority remains delivering quality projects aimed at giving value to the people, regardless of personal relationships.

Speaking during inspection of multiple projects in Asaba, the state capital, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that competence, integrity, and value for money was critical to his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda.

The projects inspected include; Ogbeosonwe, Ogbeilo road, Ogbogonogo market storm drainage project and Ogbe-Ofu Road, Off Jarret Road, Cable Point, Asaba.

Others are; 1.7km Amaechi Agusi Street with 10 adjoining streets,
Dorah Allanah Street, Oluu Street, Burutu Drive, Off Infant Jesus Road, Odilison Junior Crescent, Agbogun Close, Ngozi Odiaka Avenue, Aloy Isomede Street, Ezeobi Ojukwu Street, and Ajudua Street, Okpanam, Aretha Table Water Street, Off NTA Road Asaba and Redeemer’s Street Asaba.

Governor Oborevwori said, “I was elected to serve the people of Delta, not to please a select few. Friendship cannot and will not take precedence over the quality of projects we provide for the people.

“Contractors in the state know that; I have always emphasized on the need for quality jobs but the people who are causing this problem are not the big companies, it is some of our indigenous contractors that are causing these problems.

“The problem we are having majorly are the indigenous contractors, if you don’t patronize them they will say you want to suffer them, they will blame you for not supporting the growth of indigenous contractors. We need to also patronize them but they should do well because some of them are not doing well and like I have said the ones that are not doing well, will be blacklisted.

“The interest today is the public interest because the interest of the people is more important than any other thing. Some of them are not too happy but it is important the majority of the people are happy with what we are doing now.

“We are not doing media show, what we are doing is real and those who know me very well know that I will not compromise. So if you want to be my friend do a good job, if you don’t want to be my friend then don’t do a good job and I will kick you out.

“Some people say that this kind of governor who is doing like EFCC, is good for the people. The masses voted for me and they appreciate what we are doing so I will not allow a few people to decide for us, I will not take that from them.”

On requests for upward review of projects, Oborevwori said rates had gone up, adding that he usually visits such projects to see the extent of work done before carrying out any upward review.

“We can only review jobs awarded 2022 and early part of 2023 before I assumed office. This is because when we came in the dollar was around N750 now dollar is about N1600. Materials have gone up and we also feel for them but most especially we want them to do good job.

“You can see most of the contractors have returned to sites, we are not going to spare anybody, do the right thing.”

Governor Oborevwori who spoke further, appealed to residents of Asaba to keep their environments clean and directed the State Commissioner for Environment, Chairman Waste Management Board and the Chairman Taskforce on Environment to ensure total compliance.

Let Ngozi Okolie Breathe: Halting Unhealthy Criticisms

BY OSITA BIOSE

The recent criticism of the Labour Party representative for the Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency, Hon. Ngozi Okolie has sparked widespread attention.
While pundits have been swift to condemn Okolie, they have notably remained silent on the performances of representatives from other parties, such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC). This one-sided scrutiny raises questions about the underlying motives behind the criticism.
It appears that Okolie’s refusal to partake in the unhealthy practice of distributing largesse has made him a target for detractors.
An anonymous critic suggested that the issue is not about Okolie’s ability to attract developmental projects but rather his refusal to “settle” individuals who otherwise claim to have somehow hitherto supported him. Essentially, the critic argues that Okolie should distribute money or “palliatives” to certain individuals.
This expectation is not only detrimental but also a significant obstacle to Nigeria’s progress. It sustains a culture where politicians are viewed as providers of personal benefits rather than public servants committed to societal growth.
The roots of Nigeria’s challenges lie in the deeply ingrained practices of money+ politics and godfatherism.
The demand for politicians to share money or provide handouts perpetuates corruption, encouraging officeholders to prioritise amassing wealth and maintaining their power base over serving the public. Furthermore, it diminishes accountability, shifting focus away from their performance in office to their ability to distribute personal benefits.
As this situation unfolds, Hon. Ngozi Okolie likely feels the burden of these unrealistic expectations. While the pressure may seem overwhelming, it is vital for him to remain steadfast in his mandate to serve the people of Aniocha/Oshimili. Okolie’s primary responsibility is to deliver effective representation, not to act as a dispenser of monetary benefits.
His constituents stand to benefit far more from his efforts to attract meaningful projects, improve infrastructure, and enhance their overall quality of life:before the rxperation of his tenure.
To this end, Okolie is encouraged to stay focused on his goals, engage openly with his constituents, seek alliances with colleagues and stakeholders; and uphold transparency and accountability in all his dealings.
It is imperative that critics ease the unrelenting pressure and allow him the space to work effectively. Persistent destructive and unfair criticism only serves to hinder progress and demoralise leadership.
Okolie’s commitment to transparency and prioritising the needs of his constituency over personal interests is a hopeful sign for Nigeria’s political landscape. By focusing on the greater good, he sets an example that others can emulate. It is crucial for society to acknowledge and reward such leadership, which places collective interests above individual gain.
As a nation, it is time to recalibrate our expectations of politicians. We must prioritise their performance and commitment to public service over the distribution of handouts. By shifting our focus to policies and developmental achievements, we can foster a political culture that values transparency, accountability, constructive criticism and the well-being of all citizens. Only then can we achieve the progress and development we desire for Nigeria.

DELTA NORTH: UTILIZING THE 3% PIA REMITTANCE TO BUILD A BETTER FUTURE -By Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko

The Delta North Senatorial District has yet to feel the impact of the International Oil Companies (IOCs) and Local Oil Companies (LOCs) operating within its region, despite the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) since 2021. The 3% development fund allocated to host communities under the PIA has not translated into meaningful progress for the oil-producing communities in Delta North.

The enactment of the PIA was a landmark moment, aimed at addressing years of environmental degradation, neglect, and lack of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in host communities. For Delta North, this law was supposed to usher in a new era of rapid infrastructural development and improved living conditions. Unfortunately, this promise remains largely unfulfilled.

The PIA, signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on August 16, 2021, created a legal framework for governance, regulation, and fiscal responsibility in the petroleum industry. It mandates that 3% of the annual operating expenditure of oil companies be remitted to the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) for the development of host communities. According to the Executive Director of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, oil companies have consistently remitted these funds since 2021, amounting to hundreds of billions of naira.

Transparency and Accountability in Fund Management

The neglect and marginalization of Delta North’s oil-producing communities are glaring. Decades of environmental hazards, poor CSR implementation, and inadequate Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) have left these communities struggling with poor healthcare, substandard infrastructure, and environmental degradation. Despite these challenges, there has been no significant development to show for the 3% PIA remittance intended to improve their living standards.

The NUPRC, alongside other regulatory bodies like the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), must ensure that the funds accrued under the PIA are transparently managed and utilized for the intended purpose. As custodians of this framework, they are obligated to ensure that host communities benefit directly from these resources.

Delta North’s Oil and Gas Assets to

Delta North Senatorial District is home to several upstream and downstream oil companies, including:

Nigerian Agip Oil Company (OML60) now Oando Energy Resources – Ndokwa East
Platform Petroleum Limited (OML38) – Ukwuani
Sterling Energy Exploration Production Company (OML143) – Ndokwa East
Pan Ocean Oil Cooperation (OML147) – Ika North East
Midwestern Oil Company (OML56) – Ndokwa West
Pillar Oil Limited (OML56) – Ndokwa West
Energia Limited (OML56) – Ndokwa West
Chorus Energy Limited (OML56) – Ndokwa East
Ashtavinayak Hydrocarbon Limited (downstream) – Ndokwa West
Opac Refinery (downstream) – Ndokwa West
PowerGas Ebedei Limited (downstream) – Ukwuani

The cumulative 3% remittance from these companies amounts to an estimated 30% of their operational costs annually. Over four years, this represents approximately 120% of their combined operating expenditures remitted into the CRF designated account supervised by NUPRC, totaling hundreds of billions of naira. These funds are more than sufficient to address critical projects like the Okpai Independent Power Plant (IPP) and the Ogwashi-Uku Dam, as well as to improve healthcare, education, road networks, and electricity in the region.

The lack of visible development from these funds raises serious concerns about transparency and accountability. As your senator, I am committed to ensuring that the NUPRC and other regulatory bodies expedite the disbursement of these funds and that they are judiciously utilized for the growth and development of our host communities.

To build trust and accountability, I will engage with the relevant Senate Committees and invite the management of these oil companies to provide detailed reports on their contributions and how the funds are being allocated. Furthermore, I will work closely with the inaugurated board members of our host communities to guarantee that these resources are used to address the specific needs of the people.

Delta North cannot continue to suffer neglect while billions of naira intended for its development remain stockpiled in the CRF. Together, we will ensure that these funds are put to work for the benefit of our communities, paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for all.
