Delta NUJ Pleads With Gov. Uduaghan To Expedite Action On  Completion Of Secretariat Complex

The Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has
pleaded with the State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, to expedite
action towards completing the Ultra Modern Secretariat building of the
Union.nuj2

This is contained in resolutions reached at the Congress of the State
Council of the NUJ held in Asaba recently.

The Congress commended Governor Uduaghan for the initiative to provide
a secretariat complex for the NUJ, and expressed the belief that when
completed, the building would not only make accommodation problem a
thing of the past for the Union but would be a rallying point for the
advancement of journalism practice in the State.

The Congress praised the quality of work going on at the site of the
Secretariat building, saying with the timely release of more funds,
the project would be completed and commissioned before May 29 this
year, saying the critical aspects of a befitting foundation had
already been laid.

The Congress equally considered the report of the Screening Committee
of practicing Journalists in the State and extended the submission of
the final report by two weeks to accommodate those who missed out in
the initial screening exercise held at the various chapels.

The Congress gave chapels leadership that have overstayed their
tenures two weeks to conduct fresh elections and inform the State
Secretariat accordingly.

The Chairman of the Council, Comrade Norbert Chiazor, in his remark,
called on journalists to be conscious of the political atmosphere by
carry out their constitutional role objectively and truthfully and
avoid being used by politicians against their perceived opponents.

While tasking Chairmen and Secretaries of the fifteen chapels in the
State to hold regular meetings and organize activities that would
uplift journalism practice among their members, he commended the
leadership of the DBS Asaba Chapel for good initiative within few
months after its inauguration.
