Inconsistent Tambuwal Joins Sokoto Guber Race

0

In a rather shocking development which bookmakers have described as political inconsistency, Tambuwal has finally joined Sokoto State governorship race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), after his shot at the Presidential ticket failed.

Embattled Tambuwal picked the nomination forms on Friday and headed straight to Sokoto to inform his Governor, Aliyu Wamakko of his intentions to take over from him.

“My guber nomination forms are here. Tambuwal displays the forms. I assure Sokoto people that if given the mandate, I won’t let them down. I will continue with the legacies of our Leader.

“Governor Wamakko’s support and encouragement has made us succeed in our assignment at the National Assembly in Abuja.

“Although some people wanted me to run for Presidency, after due consultations, I decided to come back home and work for the development of the state”.

NASS Mess: Mark Orders Closure Of Senate, House Of Reps Till Nov. 25

Tambuwal
In a bid to forestall national tension due to commotion from alleged denial of embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal entery into the chamber to preside over Thursday’s sitting by security agents, the Senate President David Mark has ordered an immediate closure of the National Assembly.

The Nigerian Senate President is the Chairman of the National Assembly.

The order, according to Mark became neccessary, in order to avert uncontrollable and embarrassing situation. He said both Houses would formally resume plenary on Tuesday, November 25, 2014.

A source say that Tambuwal and his loyalists anger and eventual outburst heightened when they were stopped from entering the chamber even as the Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha and other members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were allowed into the chamber.

“Nearly 20 members of the oppostion party, loyal to the Speaker, had to scale the fence into the chamber, overpowered the security men, forced Tambuwal in for the sitting, thus, preventing Emeka Ihedioha from presiding over the sitting”, our source disclosed.

In the midst of the tension, Senate President, David Mark however held a brief meeting with Speaker Tambuwal, before announcing the closure of the legislative arm of government, till Tuesday.

It could be revealed that Tambuwal’s trouble started since his defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Prior to adjourning plenary for one month on October 28, Tambuwal had formally announced his defection to the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Before I hit the gavel on the motion for adjournment, I want to make this formal announcement to this House. Based on the provision of the 1999 constitution and having regards to the development of PDP in my own state, Sokoto State, I hereby announce my membership with the All Progressives Congress (APC),” he said.

Reacting to the development, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party had called on him to do the “needful” by resigning his position as Speaker of the House.

But, the APC rose in his defence, insisting he will not resign since the constitution did not state expressly that the ruling party will produce the Speaker.

The following day, the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, ordered the wthidrawal of the Speaker’s security aides, citing constitutional provision.

Recall the embattled Speaker had on Tuesday recalled members of the Lower Chamber from recess to consider President Goodluck Jonathan’s request for extension of emergency rule in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.

But earlier, security operatives had taken over the National Assembly complex, a move seen as aimed at preventing the Speaker from gaining access to preside over the special session.

Uduaghan Undergoes PDP Senatorial Screening *Says "I Am Best Aspirant for Delta South District"

0

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan was on Wednesday screened
for the Delta South Senatorial Primary of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) by a five-man committee, chaired by  Alhaji Mohammed Babaginda.

Other members of the panel were Dr. Frank Okafor, Mr. Mike Ewausia, Rev Yakubu Abudullahi with Dr. Kabi Illelah as secretary/member.

Dr Uduaghan who appeared before the committee, which sat at  the PDP Secretariat in Asaba, told journalists that he was confident of victory at the primaries because he was the most qualified to represent the Delta South Senatorial District.

He declared that his level of experience as governor, exposure, contacts, among others, placed him far above other persons in the race for the party’s ticket in the senatorial race.

“I believe that I am the most qualified of the candidate to represent my senatorial district, the legislature is about making laws that will affect the lives of the people positively, I believe that a lot of laws have to be put in place to ensure the development of the district,” Dr Uduaghan said.

Governor Uduaghan who was beaming with smile, exchanged pleasantries with other aspirants who came for the screening, explained that it was customary for him to appear before the committee.

According to him, there was no discrimination when it comes to appearing before the screening panel, adding that every aspirant for elective position in the PDP must appear before the screening committee.

The governor who said that there were three areas he would concentrate on when elected into the Senate, observed that there was the need to put in place laws to improve the lives of the people of the Niger Delta region, guarantee equity participation of the oil producing communities in oil companies and for the protection of investments and the environment.

“Having been in the Executive, I want to go to the National Assembly to represent Delta South Senatorial District to enable oil producing communities gets 10 percent equity participation in oil companies operating in their areas. This will open up the area and stop all agitations, if the communities have equity participation, they will ensure the protection of the pipelines, companies, property and lives of the staff.

“There is the need to provide legal framework for investments in the country so as to attract investors. Nigeria is not the only country with crisis, but because other countries have legal framework to protect investors, investors still flock to those places, we need to put up laws to protect investors in our country, this is what I want to go and pursue in the legislature,’ he said.

He noted further, “you know my emphasis on the environment and green economy, I will carry that campaign to the National Assembly, our degraded environment need to be cleaned up and protected, I will ensure that laws are in place to do just that.”

DDG Boss Urges Govt To Engage Youths Positively For National Growth

The Director General of the Defenders of Democracy Group (DDG), Comrade Ejoor Umukoro, has called on the three tires of government at the national, state and local levels to urgently engage youths in positive development programmes to avert insurgency and other social vices.

Comrade Umukoro made this known in a statement made available to Blank NEWS Online reads:

“The Nigerian youth, today is an endangered specie, going into extinction. What we have on ground is a generation of youth, who have been converted to political thugs, miscreant and occultist by society and government which has no transformational and developmental plan for the them.

“I fear for our nation’s future, Nigeria tomorrow with the kind of youth we are building is a nation on the verge of self destruction.

“Boko Haram is a product of years of neglect and abandonment of the youth, these misguided youths became victims of negative religious brain wash and ethnic bigotry. Today they terrorize, our beautiful diversity and threaten to wipe us out of the comity of nations.

“Insurgency and militancy are ways the youth rebel against abandonment.
What the government need to do is to engage these youth in positive development programmes. One that will push out their genius.

“Today Mark Zuckerbeg, the billionaire boy who runs face-book, grew up in an environment which fertilized his genius. We must deliberately create not only positive values in our youth, but also deliberately create skill acquisition opportunities in technology, industry, business, investment, literature and government.”

DELTA State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan has decried accusations leveled on President Goodluck Jonathan of being partisan in the issue of Delta Gas City project, Ogidigben, saying, the President means well for Nigerians.

He also, strongly condemned the recent kidnap of fourteen journalists in some parts of Delta State, stating that the President was worried as a result of the incident and has charged security operatives to unravel what happened.

Dr Uduaghan who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Press Week of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, at Asaba, emphasized that the Gas City Project was sited in Delta State despite several interests because of the love President Jonathan has for the state.

“I find it very unfortunate and objectionable that the President was been accused of partisanship and have been asked to resign. If the President has no love for Delta State, he would not have visited Delta State at least twice this year to inaugurate two projects in that part of the state. It shows he loves Delta State,” he said.

According to him, the project was originally billed for Koko but had to be relocated to the present site at Ogidigben because of the shallow nature of the waters at the initial location, noting that if Mr. President had ulterior motive he could have taken it to another state.

“This is a $16 billion project which was approved by Mr. President to be located in Delta State, the initial place the project was to be located was Koko but, because of the need for a deep sea port, it was relocated to Ogidigben.

“Let us join hands together peacefully to ensure that the project takes off as everybody will benefit from it irrespective tribe, I want to appeal to everybody to put aside our differences and ensure that the project takes off as investors are waiting, let us not use our hands to drive away investors,” the Governor said.

“I think I owe it a duty and a responsibility as the chief executive of Delta State to apologize to all journalists in Nigeria for the very ugly incident that happened in this state in the last two days in which 14 journalists were unfortunately held hostage. I say the act itself is unfortunate, it is condemnable”, adding that Mr. President has directed thorough investigation into the incident and that anyone found culpable would be handled by security agencies.

He commended the Delta State Council of NUJ for being peaceful and challenged journalists to be objective in reporting the forthcoming 2015 elections.

“As journalists, you have specific roles to play to ensure that all is well with the country, you have enormous powers as one word or one write-up can change the history of the world, nation and election. Remember the saying: the pen is mightier than the sword. I appeal to all of you to abide by the tenets of your profession, verify that your story is true before you disseminate information.”

Dr Uduaghan assured Journalists in Delta State that his administration would build and complete a befitting secretariat for the Delta State Council of the NUJ.

In a lecture on “Reporting The 2015 General Elections,” the President, Nigerian Guild of Editors, Mr. Femi Adeshina, said the success of the 2015 general elections depended on the media, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.

“The media should beam its spotlight on all involved in politics and ensure that the game is played according to the rules in an impartial and objective manner.”

He condemned irresponsible reporting especially in the social media who do not subscribe to ethics of journalism.

The National President of NUJ, Alhaji Mohammed Garba who was represented by the Deputy National President, Comrade Rotimi Obamuwagun, the Commissioner of Information in the state, Barr. Chike Ogeah and the State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Norbert Chiazor in their separate remarks commended Governor Uduaghan for been media friendly and supporting the cause of journalists.

Below are excerpts of Governor Uduaghan’s Address:

Before we start saying anything I think I owe it a duty and a responsibility as the chief executive of Delta State to apologize to all journalists in Nigeria for the very ugly incident that happened in this state in the last two days in which 14 journalists were unfortunately held hostage. I say the act itself is unfortunate, it is condemnable. Let me assure everyone that the presidency and the president himself has ordered a thorough investigation into the issue and I want to assure you that anyone who is found guilty will be handled adequately by the security agencies.

Let me also quickly say that what has happened in that area, the Warri South West in the last one week is very unfortunate. It is a 16billion dollars project that the president graciously approved almost two years back to be located in our land. Many other states lobbied seriously for this project but the president approved that this project should be located in Delta State. It was possible for him to have said ‘look let this project be taken elsewhere’ and with all the challenges we had, it was also possible for him to have said ‘we are moving this thing elsewhere’.

Do not forget that the initial location of the project was Koko, but when the investors came and they found that the water channels was quite shallow and to drain the waterways would cost a lot of money they advised that it should be relocated from there and of course the most adequate place was the land at Ogidigben. The first stage, the land was found and an extension was also found for that land when it was now known that the deep-sea port had to be constructed as part of the gas city.

I also found it very unfortunate and objectionable for anyone to accuse Mr. President of being partisan and ask him to resign. If the President did not love Delta State he would not have brought the project here. He has been to Delta State at least twice this year and to that part of the state to flag off a very key project. Is that a man we should be accusing of having hatred for us? I don’t think it is right for people to ask him to resign and as I told them when they said it, I said they must separate the issues, let them deal with the issues and stop being personal. If you have personal issues with anybody don’t bring it to the issue of this gas project because Mr. President means well, I mean well and we are determined to ensure that that project kicks off.

What has happened is unfortunate but let us all peacefully try to put our heads together and ensure that the project kicks off because like it has been explained by the President’s media man that the project is enough to absorb not only Itsekiri or Ijaw or Deltans but even Nigerians. Everyone will benefit from that project if we allow the project to kick off.

So I want to appeal to us especially those of us from that area that the talk that is going on should quickly be put to an end. Investors are waiting, investors are watching; let us not use our hand to drive away the investors and to drive away the investments.

Chief Enebeli also, observed that with the democratic situation of the country, Nigeria is in urgent need of statesmen.

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has affirmed that President Goodluck Jonathan has done a lot in the implementation of his transformational agenda for Nigeria.

He insisted that the President was working quietly to develop the country, despite the contrary perception of a segment of the nation.

Governor Uduaghan stated this on Monday, November 17, 2014 at the official roll out of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) N2 billion Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund (MSMED) in Asaba, Delta State capital.

“I want to thank you, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and through you, I want to thank Mr. President because if Mr. President does not allow you to do what you are doing now, you will not be able to do it, so, I want to thank President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who is quietly developing Nigeria, I thank him,” Governor Uduaghan said.

Dr. Uduaghan receiving the symbolic N2 billion cheque from the CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele said that the Delta State Government would give out the loan at zero interest by paying off the 9 per cent interest of N180 million on behalf of the beneficiaries as well as bear the cost of logistics in the disbursement of the fund.

“I want to commend you (CBN Governor) for the support you have given to the state, you are here to roll out MSMED fund which is the brain-child of your leadership in the CBN,” the Governor said, emphasizing, “the fund is not being rolled out because you are from the state, it is being done because Delta State has prepared for the fund. We have worked hard to meet the criteria for the fund; you can recall that at the launching of this fund in August by President Goodluck Jonathan, Delta State is one of the two states that qualified for the fund.

“I want to assure the CBN that the fund will go to the real beneficiaries, you don’t need to be a politician to get the fund, you must meet the criteria before benefitting from it, I want to say that the whole N2 billion will go to the beneficiaries as the state government will provide the logistics needed, this loan will be at zero interest rates to Deltans as the state government will pay the 9 per cent interest on the loan which amounts to N180 million to the Central Bank of Nigeria.”

The governor explained that the Delta State Government in designing its micro credit programme has “been cautiously and consciously biased towards the pro-poor in our execution of our programme, we have laid emphasis in the areas of education, health, water supply, transportation which benefits the pro-poor, those people at the bottom of the pyramid, we ensure that we can touch these set of people, that is why this type of programme gladdens my heart,” he said.

He charged old participants of the programme to lay their experience at the disposal of new entrants by mentoring them to ensure that they pay back as at when due so that the programme does not suffer set back.

The CBN Governor, Mr Emefiele explained that the apex bank initiated the N220 billion MSMED fund as “a catalyst to stimulate economic growth and poverty alleviation in Nigeria, the fund couldn’t have come out at a better time than now where there is fall in price of oil.

“It will be a means of diversifying our economic base through production of goods locally and reduce the pressure on our foreign reserve,” adding that the fund has been structured to be accessed by those who really needed them the most rather than those who were privileged politically.

He commended Governor Uduaghan’s administration for designing a robust micro credit programme that has imparted greatly on the less endowed segment of the society, “it is no mean feat to set up a Ministry to alleviate our people from poverty into prosperity, I took note of some of the things produced by the beneficiaries of the micro-credit programme, from the young graduates to the elderly, it tells that when you are faced with challenges, you turn to your creative ability to create development for yourself and your country, I salute you (Governor Uduaghan).”

“The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation have done what the CBN want to do, working with people, banks and granting loans to ensure economic growth and diversification,” he added.

High point of the occasion was the presentation of N2 billion cheque to the Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan and the presentation of certificates to beneficiaries of the MSMED fund.

2015 Presidential Polls: Jonathan Deserves 2nd Term- Olejeme

Dr. Ngozi Olejeme, Delta gubernatorial hopeful
Dr. Ngozi Olejeme, Delta gubernatorial hopeful

A female Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial aspirant in Delta State, Dr. Ngozi Olejeme has urged Nigerian politicians to emulate the noble ideals and legacies of the Rt. Hon. Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

Olejeme who was the special guest of honour at the 18th Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe Commemorative Event in Lagos on Sunday, extolled the rare virtues of the late leader, describing him as an initiator of women in political leadership roles in Nigeria.

“Dr. Azikiwe who was a leader on the continent of Africa, appeals to so many people in so many ways. To some, he is being remembered on his dogged fight for freedom from the colonial and imperialist rules. To others, he was a world vanguard of human rights, dignity and respect. However for me, Dr. Azikiwe was a true nationalist, a detribalized Nigerian, an initiator of women in political leadership roles in Nigeria and one of the few politicians who believe that politics is essentially for service”.

Explaining, Olejeme said Dr. Azikiwe believed in the politics of compromise and the liberation of womanhood.

“History attests to the fact that Dr. Azikiwe under the leadership of the National Council of Nigerian Citizens (NCNC) in 1953 nominated the first set of women into leadership positions, namely: Mrs. Janet Mokelu, Chief (Mrs) Olufunmilayo Ransome Kuti and Chief Mrs Margaret Ekpo, all of the blessed memories. Azikiwe worked tirelessly to ensure their victories at the poll. He also permitted the office of the First Lady which was honorably occupied by Mrs. Flora Chinwe Azikiwe as the First Nigerian First Lady”.

Recalling the age-old belief in the importance of women in our society, Olejeme said the role of women in the society should not be limited but that all human should be encouraged to serve their societies accordingly to their gifts and capacities, regardless of their gender.

“When women are empowered, the resultant facts are that our children are empowered to face their world, our families are entrenched and flourishes like a tree planted by the riverside, our societies stand out with pride in the community of States and nations”.

Olejeme who described her gubernatorial bid as the people’s desire for development, appealed to politicians to allow the life and times of the Great Zik of Africa to guide their steps in enthroning women in leadership roles.

“In Trust Fund Pensions Plc, Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF, Ajaokuta Steel Company Ltd, Subsidy Re-investment and Empowerment programme (SURE-P) and others, I excelled tremendously to the delight of Nigerians. I demonstrated sheer commitment, honesty and managerial competence. I touched lives of Nigerians, particularly Deltans. I added values to the lives and livelihoods of the underprivileged and widows. I also equipped Nigerian youths with viable skills and employment” she said.

Continuing, she said “I therefore call on all noble minded citizens of our great country, our beloved President, Governors and all leaders to lend tacit support in the task of enthroning our women in leadership positions in 2015. I urge you all to support me”.

Olejeme who also donated two million naira to the Ndi-Igbo Cultural Society of Nigeria urged Nigerians to support President Goodluck Jonathan to enable continue his laudable programmes and women empowerment.

“Mr. President has done a lot for the country. He deserves our support. He deserves second term” she added.

Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan declared at the weekend that his ambition to represent Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly is fuelled by the need to enable oil producing communities have 10 percent equity participation in oil companies operating in their areas.

Speaking while addressing a meeting of the Executive Committee of the State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) attended by aspirants and leaders of the party at its secretariat in Asaba, Governor Uduaghan said that he was determined to ensure that the Niger Delta region was no longer shortchanged.

Dr. Uduaghan promised to pursue with vigour the participation of oil producing communities in their naturally given resources to address years of neglect and insensitivity to their plight by the oil companies.

“My desire is to ensure that the 10 per cent equity participation by oil producing communities in oil companies sees the light of the day, my passion is to vigorously pursue this goal … this informed the decision to represent my people (Delta South Senatorial District) at the Senate,” he said.

Delta Guber: Coalition Group Seeks Massive Support For Obuh *Scores Him Above Other Aspirants

0
Sir Tony Obuh
Sir Tony Obuh

The Delta Coalition for Obuh, political pressure group, made up of seasoned politicians in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, on Thursday described Sir Tony Chuks Obuh as the best person to replace Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan at Delta State Government House in 2015.

Chairman, Delta Coalition for Obuh, Mr. Anthony Mene in a statement issued, after a meeting with some eminent leaders from the Delta State in Abuja and made available to Blank NEWS Online, said, “Obuh has all the necessary qualities to replace Governor Uduaghan as the governor of Delta State, considering his track records in the civil service and his political savvy which has made him the bride of all political groups in Delta State.”

The statement reiterated that, “Anybody following his political activities since 2011, particularly when he was in the State civil service will agree that he is the right candidate for the coveted post.

“He has the antidote to take our state to the next level of economic and infrastructural development and create more employment opportunities to soak up the remaining army of unemployed youths across the state.

Continuing, the group said, “Even the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not unmindful of the unique leadership qualities inherent in him, so the party will eventually pick him as the governorship flag bearer.”

They also pointed out that the fear expressed by some politicians over transparency and accountability could be handled appropriately by Obuh who will also continue with the “Delta Beyond Oil” agenda being carried out by the current administration.

“As an administrator of repute and a boardroom guru, with a wealth of experience and a proven record of success in governance and business management, Obuh has proved to Nigerians, particularly the people of Delta State that government is all about accountability to the people.

“He is the best person for the state’s top office. He will transform Delta State to the envy of other states in the federation. He will invigorate the educational system, improve the health care services and keep the economy of the state in good shape,” the group promised.

They, however, submitted that any Deltan’s that is current with political development in the state will know that Obuh is a politician who has the passion to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.

“Delta Coalition for Obuh, have a liking for any hard working Deltan, who has the interest of the people at heart and who has a very good reputation. Obuh has proved to us beyond any reasonable doubt, that he is the best person to support in the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state. We are sure that those who understand the need for a good leader and a greater Delta State will support him,” the statement added.

In another development, the Delta Coalition for Obuh (DCO), in a statement in Warri, urged all Deltan’s to support Sir Tony Chucks Obuh for the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state, describing him as a detribalized man, who would deliver the dividends of democracy to Deltans without tribal sentiments.

The statement signed by its Chairman, Anthony Mene, said: “The state governor, in 2015, should come from Delta North senatorial district in line with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rotational policy in the State and such candidate must be one with good pedigree.

“We cannot allow those who have no plans for the future of Delta State and our collective well-being, to discontinue the progress of the Uduaghan administration.

“Deltans must shun people who will be driven by tribal sentiments; people who would want every Deltan to dress like the Anioma people before he or she could get any form of government patronage. And the only man that has the pedigree to deliver without tribal sentiments is Sir Tony Chuks Obuh.”

Delta Governorship: Obuh's Extempore Declaration Speech

Sir Tony Obuh
Sir Tony Obuh

Sir Tony Obuh’s Extempore Declaration Speech On Friday, November 07, 2014 @ the Cenotaph, Asaba, Delta State

I am indeed overwhelmed. Overwhelmed in every sense of the word by the audience that I have here, by the crowd that is here today, by the number of Deltans who have come here to witness this event, by the sheer show of love and support.

Looking at you today, there is no doubt in my mind that all of have a single verdict and a clear vision that we want for a peaceful, united and progressive Delta state. I welcome all of you in the name of God. I thank you for the pain you have taken to travel from all the nooks and crannies of Delta state.

I believe that we have one single commission to show our love for Delta state. One Delta, one destiny and one people. That is what we will continue to preach and that will remain the philosophy of the people of Delta state once we have the opportunity to serve in a higher capacity.

So many High Chiefs have left their territories and kingdoms to travel to this place to show support and solidarity. I want to thank you all very seriously and tell you that the way you have respected us, God will continue to respect you and your kingdoms will continue to witness growth and prosperity.

For 23 years we have had Delta state and we have continued to witness and notice progress in various sectors. Particularly in the last seven and half years, we have noticed progress, development and growth in different aspects. All anchored on the philosophy of Delta Beyond Oil.

What we are seeing have shown us that there are great opportunities that are open to us as a people to grow. We have opportunities to grow our industries, youths, agriculture, micro-credit facilities, skill acquisition and to make Delta state remains on top in the Nigerian nation.

I want to assure you that the march we are starting today, is a consolidation of the opportunities that we have and I will expand on the opportunities that we have to grow Delta state to a situation where all of us will be proud and feel dignified anytime we see ourselves as people of this great state.

My dear people of Delta state, we have grown and we have had opportunities but there are still lot more to be done in the future. And we can do that if we are able to concentrate on what we are doing now, expand on it and then carry out an integrated development that would see us moving from stage to stage. What we want is continuation in the rendition of progressive service to the people of Delta state. A service that will ensure that people, especially the youths and women are properly employed and engaged and provide us opportunities for employment, opportunities for the possession of our food items, opportunities to benefit from the value chain that is now the in thing in our country.

Great people of Delta state! I Tony Chuks Obuh, having consulted widely with members of my family, my immediate constituency, elders and leaders of thought, traditional rulers, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and all other stakeholders, I am ready and set to serve you. I am set to serve you because I believe in Delta state. I am set to serve you because I believe that every part of Delta state have a stake on what happens to the people. I am here to serve you all. I have visited all the communities in Delta North, Delta Central and Delta South. I have a stake in the life of the communities. I know the communities and I believe that the communities know me. We have one thing in common and that is growth that will never be impeded. And that is what I promise to offer you.

Great people of Delta state, having looked at all the opportunities that we have ahead of us, taking into consideration the outcome of my consultation and watching the crowd that’s here gathered just to listen to me, just me. I want to humbly declare to you that I want to contest for the office of Governor of Delta state.

I am doing this because I have confidence that you would support me but some people will ask, Who is Obuh? Obuh is a seven years old man that has served Delta state for 32 years in the civil service. 32 years that afforded me the opportunity to understand what government is all about and create policies that are meant to serve the interest of the people of the state. 32 years that has exposed me to know how policies fail and how they succeed and to knowing all the segments of this great state, the opportunities that exist and how we can tap into them. These years have greatly prepared me for longer service.

I left the civil service not because I’m tired, not because I was forced to retire, not because because I didn’t know what I wanted to do, not because anybody compelled me to retire. I left the service voluntarily because I wanted to serve my people in a higher capacity.

I stand here before you in all sincerity to assure you that I’m contesting for this election not just because I’m from Delta North but because I want to be a child of the whole of Delta state.

We are all here gathered as one people with common destiny. I want to stand for that election as a true son of Delta state. I seek your support. I seek your support, prayers and mandate. That is why I’m here to let you know that I am setting out to transform Delta state.

There is no gainsaying the fact that we can only accomplish what we want, working on the platform of a great, united and solid political party and that is our PDP.

I want to assure everybody that the march we are embarking on is a march that will grow PDP in strength and in size.

We will continue to ensure that PDP will win all elections from the ward level up to the state and national level. We shall never reduce the size and potency of our great political party. We will pursue policies that would ensure that PDP serves the people and serve them well at all times.

Great Deltans, I cannot complete this address without thanking you. I want to thank you because you have given me great encouragement. I want to thank you because I am standing here on the comfort of the assurance I have from you.

People have alleged that I am being funded by unknown persons but I want to tell them that the people who are funding me are here gathered. Students have volunteered to paste my posters free of charge, printers are printing posters for me free of charge, unemployed persons are helping with physical services to make sure that I contest. They do these things because they believe that I have something to offer.

I want to assure you as a person, as a true Catholic, as a true son of Delta state that I cannot fail you. I will offer you value service, a service that will transform our community, a service that will grow our state.

They have also asked, “Who is Obuh? Is he a politician?” Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I’ve been a Permanent Secretary for eight years. If only on that score, for eight years, government has recognised me as a politician.

Before today, I had the opportunity of founding and funding a political support group that has been in existence since 2006. The PUI International participated in supporting PDP since 2007 up till today, in all elections that have been conducted and I know that the leaders of our political party recognise that. Even those who want to deny the fact in public, they realise and accept it in private.

I am from a political family. My late brother (Ben Obuh) was the Chairman of PDP, Delta North. He was a Council chairman. He was a Secretary of PDP and he had a vibrant political group that he put together. Although he has been away for three years, the Association has continued to grow. The answer to that point is that we have been working together as a political group, supported by me as a person and yet they say I am not a politician.

I am a politician and on top of that, a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) being a card carrying member for the last four years. Who can be a better politician?

I am trained to serve. I am determined to serve. I am here to serve. I have come to ask your permission, your approval, your prayers. God will bless our dream because He is the ultimate and it is only Him that will give power and we solidly believe that the Almighty God will bless our mission and our vision.

Thank you amd may God bless you all.

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan has declared his intention to run for the second term in the February 2015 presidential elections.

The event held at the Eagle Square in Abuja on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

Address by His Excellency, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR
On the Occasion of His Declaration of Intent to Run for the 2015 Presidential Elections under the Platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
Eagle Square, Abuja
Tuesday 11th November, 2014

Dear Compatriots:

1. Four years ago, precisely September 18, 2010; I stood in this Eagle Square, to offer myself for election as the President of our beloved country on the platform of our great party; the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

2. Seven months after that declaration, you elected me to lead this country with overwhelming support from all parts of our Nation. I remain grateful for the trust you reposed in me to lead our Nation through uncommon challenges in our march of progress as a united and democratic country.

3. Over the years, the Almighty God has made it possible for me to develop a bond with you and I am grateful for your support and understanding in the difficult periods we have journeyed through.

4. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, our stewardship has not been without challenges. We have had to deal with the wave of insurgency that has swept through some parts of our dear country. Only yesterday, Government Science Secondary School in Yobe State was bombed by insurgents, killing our promising young children who were seeking education to build the country and support their parents. Many Nigerians have lost their lives and property to these mindless killings. Let me crave the indulgence of all present here to stand up to observe a minutes silence in honour of these young lads who lost their lives. Clearly, this has cast a dark cloud on our Nation but we will surely win the war against terror. A number of young men and women have been kidnapped by these criminal elements including our daughters from Chibok. We will free our daughters and defeat terror.

5. We are equipping the armed forces and deploying special forces to engage the terrorist and end this senseless war. We must protect our country. We must save our people. I will do everything humanly possible to end this criminal violence in our Nation.

6. To ensure the long term stability and development of the affected areas, government has launched three programmes: The Presidential Initiative for the North East, the Victim Support Fund and the Safe School Initiative. The Presidential Initiative for the Northeast is focused on improving infrastructure and economic growth in the region. The Safe School Initiative is centred on creating a safe environment to encourage our children in the communities to acquire education. The Victim Support Fund, a partnership with the Private Sector, has raised about 60 billion Naira, which will help to empower and rehabilitate victims of terror. I promise the victims of these dastardly acts that we will continue to stand with you.

7. I am grateful to all Nigerians for standing with us.

8. Let me also thank the leaders and elders of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, for the opportunity you have given to me to serve our country, Nigeria.

9. I am overwhelmed by the trust, confidence and support of the various organs of our party, the Board of Trustees, the National Caucus, the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, the PDP Governors Forum, members of the PDP Caucuses of the National Assembly, and others.

10. This day affords me the opportunity to continue the conversation of development we started together. We must develop our country.

11. Infrastructure has been a major focus area of my administration and so, we pursued the power sector reform to this point of irreversible progress. Nigeria has undertaken a most transparent and corruption-free bidding process, attracting global commendation. The on-going 450MW Azura Power Plant in Edo State is a testimony to the success of this transformation.

12. We have also resumed development of our Hydro-Power potential, with the construction of the 700MW Zungeru Hydro-Power Plant, while construction work on the 3,050MW Mambilla Hydro-Power Plant is about to take off.

13. Our power generation and distribution companies have now been privatized. We are firmly on the road to guaranteed regular power supply in the months ahead. This our bold move, is paying off!

14. We are committed to environmental protection and conservation and reducing vulnerability to climate change. In this regard, we have embarked on a number of projects across the country. Of particular note is the African Great Green Wall Programmed, where we have released about 16 billion naira for implementation. The project will create a green belt across 11 states from Kebbi to Borno.

15. In the past three and half years, the water sector has witnessed unprecedented improvement. Access to potable water is now 67%, up from 58% in 2010, while sanitation coverage is 41%, from 32% within the same period.

16. Major developments in water include the completion of 37 Dams and rehabilitation of 10, with several others under-going construction. The flagship Kashimbila Multipurpose Dam which is being built to contain flood from Lake Nyos in Cameroon, is now at 90% completion. We have also completed about 5,000 rural and semi urban water schemes.

17. We are reforming the National Urban Water supply programmes in 12 states, with 385 formal and informal irrigation projects, covering a total land area of 118,000 hectares, cultivated mostly by small holder farmers. This has yielded over 3 million metric tons of assorted grains and vegetables, with a market value of about 45 billion naira

18. Before the advent of this administration, the Railway system was practically dead. Today, we have revived the rail sector. The narrow gauge line from Lagos to Kano has been rehabilitated with improved coaches providing regular services. The rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line is progressing with the Port Harcourt-Gombe segment as well as the branch line from Kafanchan to Kaduna expected to be completed and fully operational by December 2014.

19. Already, work on the Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge rail line, is progressing. The tracks of the rail line will be completed by December this year 2014. Upon completion of the project in the first quarter of 2015, it will be possible for Nigerians to live in Kaduna and work in Abuja. The Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri standard gauge line has attained an advanced stage, with the track completely laid. We hope to commence full operation before the end of 2015.

20. Other segments of the new standard gauge speed train network are planned, with contract already awarded for the Lagos –Ibadan Segment. There will be more of such modern and faster rail connections in the coming years. Already, discussions are now at advanced stage, for the Coastal rail line that will traverse through 10 states, from Lagos through the South-South and South-East, all the way to Calabar.

21. My administration has successfully completed the dredging of the lower River Niger from Baro in Niger State to Warri in Delta State. The cheering news is that over 6.7 million passengers and over 1.6 million tonnes of cargo have been moved through this channel in less than three years.

22. I am happy to also report that our ports now operate 24 hours service, which has led to the reduction of clearing time and improved efficiency.

23. When I assumed office in 2010, out of the 35,000km of federal roads nationwide, only about 5,000km were motorable. Today, that number has increased to about 25,000km. We expect to complete the remaining 10,000km in three years while initiating new ones.

24. I made a commitment to build two new major bridges across the River Niger and River Benue. Today, the new bridge over the River Benue, connecting Loko in Nassarawa State to Oweto in Benue State has reached an advanced stage of completion, while work has commenced on the Second Niger Bridge.

25. Beyond these, my administration has concluded plans to re-commence the construction of Bodo-Bonny Road with three major bridges on the alignment that will link the Island of Bonny with Rivers mainland.

26. Preliminary works have started on my administration’s planned re-construction and expansion of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road in Lagos to a world class entry point into our country. Only a few months ago, work started on the dualization of Kano-Katsina Road. While many Nigerians are celebrating the marked improvements on our roads, I want to assure that it will get even better as we move forward.

27. In the pursuit of an integrated transportation system, we embarked on the construction of five new Airport Terminal Buildings and Air-field facilities. We are also re-constructing existing ones. The re-construction upon completion, will lead to improved passenger processing, increased cargo handling capacity and enhanced Air-field facilities that meet international standards and improves safety. These efforts have been met with global acknowledgement including the attainment and retention of the FAA Category One status.

28. In housing, we signed the National Housing Policy to kick-start the framework for providing more affordable homes for our people. We have also expanded the National Housing Fund to accommodate more Nigerians. We have started a revolution in the housing sector with the start of the Nigerian Mortgage and Refinanced Company (NMRC), a new initiative of my administration, that will enable more citizens in the lower income bracket to become first time home owners.

29. Our partners such as the World Bank group are supporting this with US300million dollars interest free credit, while my administration will back it with over 100billion naira in bonds. We are already processing 66,000 mortgage applications for our young people. We have amended the PENCOM Act to enable the pension funds invest in housing sector bonds. This will create a boom in the housing sector.

30. In the Federal Capital Territory, we are rapidly building a befitting National Capital by expanding and providing new infrastructure, developing ten new districts and Satellite Towns to cater for the ever increasing population. In no distant future, you will be able to arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and proceed to the city using the Abuja Light Rail. In addition to providing durable health, educational and transportation services, we are also collaborating with Organized Labour to build functional, affordable and social housing in Abuja.

31. Other critical capital developments that are being packaged by this Administration include the development of the Ultra-Modern World Trade Centre, the Abuja Town Centre, the Jabi Lake Comprehensive Centre, the Centenary City and the Land Swap Districts. This private sector driven infrastructural development will positively change the skyline of the city and provide the required office and residential accommodation, shopping and recreation as well as tourism and entertainment facilities in the FCT.

32. In our determination to encourage much greater participation of Nigerians in the oil and gas industry, one of the first actions I took, was the enactment of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act. As a result of this law, indigenous Nigerian participation levels, in upstream and downstream activities of the oil and gas industry have increased by over 45%, thereby increasing employment opportunities for our youth.

33. We have also succeeded in eliminating the long queues that previously characterised our filling stations, through regular and sustained product supply.

34. Gas infrastructure to ensure adequate Gas to Power and Gas to Industry, is being aggressively put in place. Over 450km of gas pipelines have been installed over the last 3years. Another 2,000km is planned over the next 4years. Critical petrochemical and fertilizer facilities have commenced including the gas industrial park in Delta State, for which I am scheduled to perform the ground-breaking ceremony this Friday. This will create millions of jobs and make Nigeria a regional hub.

35. In addition, as a result of government’s favourable policies the private sector is investing over 12 billion dollars in the petrochemical sector, over the next 4years. This will surely create millions of jobs for our people.

36. In terms of gas supply, we have grown from less than 500 million cubic feet per day, 4years ago, to about 1.5 billion cubic feet per day currently. Our goal is to attain 4 billion cubic feet per day, over the next 4years.

37. We have changed the face of agriculture. We moved agriculture away from a development Programme to agriculture as a business. My vision is to create wealth for our people through agriculture.

38. We have focused on encouraging the private sector to boost investments in the agricultural sector. As a result, the number of seed companies rose from five to eighty in the past three years. Private sector investment in the agricultural sector expanded by $ US 5.6 billion across the Agricultural value chain.

39. We ended decades of corruption in the fertilizer and seed sectors. We developed a transparent and efficient system of reaching farmers directly with subsidized farm inputs. Before our reforms, fertilizer procurement and distribution took from the needy and gave to the greedy. We restored dignity back to farmers. Today, 14 million farmers, of which 2 million are women, access fertilizers with their mobile phones, through an e-wallet system. Nigeria is the first country in the world to develop an e-wallet system to reach farmers with subsidized farm inputs on their mobile phones. Several African countries are now borrowing this transparent and efficient e-wallet system for their own countries.

40. Our national food production expanded by an additional 21 million metric tons between 2011 and 2014, a record, exceeding our set target of 20 million metric tons set for 2015. The Dangote Group, has committed to invest $US 1 billion in commercial rice production and processing. With all these developments, we are expected to be an exporter of rice in the next five years. This will be a new dawn!

41. The benefits are showing on our food imports. Our food import bill has declined from 1.1 trillion Naira in 2009 to 684 billion Naira by December 2013, even with our increasing population, a reduction of 40%.

42. Nigeria met its Millennium Development Goal One on reducing hunger and extreme poverty, two years ahead of the 2015 target set by the United Nations, and was given an award by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

43. To sustain this trend, we are encouraging young graduates through the Nagropreneurs Programme to go into commercial Agriculture. We are also encouraging our students in Post Primary Schools to embrace commercial Agriculture through the National School Agriculture Programme.

44. My dear people, corruption remains a big challenge in our national life. It corrodes our efforts at development and at motivating competence in critical sectors of our national growth. We have eradicated it in the agricultural sector and we will surely eradicate it in other sectors of our economy.

45. Going forward, my focus is to continue to reinforce institutions, systems, and processes to tackle corruption, and also to bring to justice those that perpetrate corruption. Through the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), we have weeded out 56,000 ghost workers from the Federal Civil Service, saving 162 billion naira.

46. I have directed ICPC to bring the perpetrators of this criminal act to book. Let this be very clear, public officers must live by example, fully accounting for the national trust and resources in their care.

47. In our journey to progress, knowledge is indispensable. Knowledge is power! This is why my administration established 14 new Universities out of which 12 are conventional and two are specialized Police and Maritime Universities. Under my watch, every state in Nigeria, now has a Federal University.

48. In addition, over 500 billion naira has been spent, through the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the special NEEDS assessment fund on various projects to increase access and improve the quality of infrastructure at the tertiary level of our education system.

49. To provide equal access and opportunities in education and ensure that no Nigerian child is left behind, we have established and equipped 150 Almajiri Schools across the Northern states and the Out-of-School-Children Programme including Specialized Boys and Girls Schools across the country.

50. Fellow Nigerians, our country was faced with a major National security, humanitarian, and economic threat in the form of the Ebola Virus Disease, which arrived in the country on July 20, 2014, by way of a foreign national, Mr Patrick Sawyer.

51. Realizing the imminent threat, I declared a national emergency, pulling states, local and federal government into action as well as individual Nigerians to combat this disease. Without the quick action of patriotic Nigerians at the First Consultants Hospital, as well as the co-operation of Lagos and Rivers States, where the disease occurred, working with the Federal Ministry of Health and the co-operation of all Nigerians we could not have succeeded in overcoming this deadly disease. Fellow Nigerians, we stopped Ebola together.

52. Just as we stopped Ebola, we are on our way to eradicating the Polio Virus in our country. We have reduced the incident of new Polio Virus from 300 in 2010, to 6 today.

53. My brothers and sisters, to encourage entrepreneurship and self-reliance among our teeming graduates, we have developed creative opportunities for enterprise for our young people.

54. Programmes such as YouWIN, the Graduate Internship Scheme, the Nagropreneurs Initiative, the 220 Billion Naira Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Fund and the 3 Billion Naira Grant to Nollywood are empowering our graduates, the creative industry and other young people to start up their own businesses and employ others.

55. We have supported the growth of industry through policy and action. We launched The National industrial Revolution Plan (NIRP), and the National Enterprise Development Programme as key drivers to bring about our desires in the industrial sector and to diversify our economy. Our new National Automobile Policy is transforming Nigeria into a vibrant hub for the automobile industry. Our own Innoson Motors is producing world standard vehicles, and Nissan, Hyundai, and Kia, have set up factories in Nigeria and are employing thousands of our people.

56. Our support for cement production is unprecedented. We have increased our installed capacity from 16.5 million metric tons per annum in 2011 to 39.5 million metric tons per annum in 2014. Nigeria is now exporting cement. We are moving forward!

57. Our efforts to create an enabling environment for job creation in different sectors of the economy including the MSME sector, agriculture, housing and manufacturing have yielded results. Between the third quarter of 2012, when we started tracking jobs created and the end of 2013, 1.9 million jobs were created. To deepen our success in this area, I have created a Presidential Jobs Creation Board headed by the Vice President with the mandate to create at least two million jobs a year.

58. My brothers and sisters, our economy is heading in the right direction and our efforts are yielding positive results. Our economy continues to grow at the rate of 6 to 7 percent annually, one of the highest in the world. Our country is now the top investment destination and the largest economy in Africa, with a GDP of 80trillion naira (510billion dollars) as well as the 26th largest economy in the world.

59. As part of its efforts to support inclusive growth and economic development in Nigeria through the CBN, my administration has created and disbursed the sum of 200billion naira via the Commercial Agric and Credit scheme, 300billion naira Power and Aviation fund, 220billion naira Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Fund, as well as 300 billion naira rail sector refinancing facilities at single digit interest rate. We will continue to deepen the reforms in the financial sector, in order to sustain the growth of our economy and uplift our people from poverty to prosperity.

60. Dear Compatriots, I promised as President, that we would sanitize and restore integrity in our electoral process, by ensuring that our votes are not only counted, but truly count. We have gone to great length to ensure transparent, free, fair, and credible elections. Elections have been conducted across the country with local and international election observers testifying to their transparency.

61. On the international scene, we have advanced our regional, continental and global objectives. We have strengthened our relationships with our neighbours and in many instances supported them to protect their democracy, security and stability. We are serving for a second time within a period of 4 years at the United Nations Security Council. This is unprecedented in our Nation’s history. My brothers and sisters, this is a growing attestation of our country’s growing influence.

62. In the first quarter of this year, our country celebrated its centenary. To prepare the nation for the challenges of the next one hundred years, I convened a National Conference where recommendations and resolutions were reached towards a more perfect union. We shall implement the report.

63. Four years ago, I made a commitment to advance the rise of womanhood.
Today, I am glad that we have made remarkable progress in this regard, trusting in the potential of our women and reaping from their dedication and ingenuity. I believe that any nation that ignores womanhood cannot achieve its full potential. It is in this regard that I ensured that women were given more opportunities in government, and I have not been disappointed.

64. Specifically, I doubled the percentage of women in the cabinet and gave them more challenging assignments.

65. The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), is now admitting female cadets as regular combatants and it is now possible for a woman to rise through the ranks to the peak in military service, and become a full general.

66. We must continue to sustain the banner of freedom and justice that we have held high in our country. I am proud to say that there are no political prisoners in Nigeria today. No Nigerian has been driven into exile and no one will be, under my watch.

67. It is in furtherance of a peaceful, participatory and inclusive democracy that I signed the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill into law, to expand the frontiers of our fundamental freedom.

68. Let me re-affirm that under a Jonathan Presidency, your views, no matter how freely expressed, will not send you to prison or into exile.

69. I am convinced that I have kept my pact with Nigerians, and it is now time to look to the future. With your tremendous support, we have collectively done so much in the last three and half years, but to take our country to the next level, there is still more to be done.

70. History has shown that the path of honour for any true leader is not to walk away from his people in moments of challenges. We must stand together in adversity and overcome all threats to our development. We must defend our future, for the sake of our children.

71. So many things have inspired me in the journey to this moment. I want to appreciate ordinary Nigerians, especially young people, for the solidarity shown to me by contributing their meagre resources to enable me arrive at this point.

72. I appreciate the kind gesture of the Cattle Breeders Union, Miyetti Allah, and the Market Women Association, who encouraged me by coming together to contribute to the purchase of my Nomination form.

73. In the same vein, I am touched by the National Association of Widows who also encouraged me with their widow’s mite.

74. This labour of love, from ordinary Nigerians, has increased my appreciation of your solidarity, my trust in our joint destiny, and all we have achieved together these past three and half years.

75. Therefore, after seeking the face of God, in quiet reflection with my family and having listened to the call of our people nationwide to run, I, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, have accepted to re-present myself, on the platform of The Peoples’ Democratic Party, for re-election as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in the 2015 general elections.

76. Democracy is a collective action, energized by individual responsibility. Your mandate at this time will inspire in me the strength to complete the good work we have started together.

77. My dear people of Nigeria, we must complete the task of ensuring that we lift the poor out of the depth of want, and place their feet firmly on the ladder of prosperity.

78. In this election season, I appeal to all of you, not to harm, maim or kill; and not to incite violence of any kind. We must never forget our common bond, one people from the womb of one Nigeria. Again I say: My ambition to serve you is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. I remain committed to this principle of non-violence.

79. If you believe that we must build a country that works for all, where the strong lift up the weak, and not trample upon them, where the vote of every citizen determines who governs or represents you, where the democratic space is open to all citizens to fulfil their aspirations, irrespective of the circumstances of birth, your brother, Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan stands ready to continue in service to you.

80. My brothers and sisters, we cannot go back to the old ways! Our railways were allowed to rot in neglect, we have revived and are modernising them.

81. Our road infrastructure collapsed. We are reconstructing, and expanding federal roads across the country.

82. Our airport terminal buildings were dilapidated and our airspace unsafe. We are fixing this.

83. Our agricultural practices did not benefit our farmers and our people. Fertilizer distribution was a major source of fraud and we were importing more food than our budget could support. Now we are on our way to self-sufficiency in food production.

84. We cannot go back to the old ways, where there were long queues at our filling stations due to irregular supply of products and our people were exploited.

85. We cannot go back to the old ways, when women and youths were denied opportunities in government and in responsible positions.

86. We had skewed distribution of tertiary institutions. Whereas some states had more than one degree awarding institution, some had none. We have now made sure all states have at least one Federal University.

87. Our economy is now the largest in Africa. Once, we were virtually importing everything, now we are exporting several products, including cement.

88. In 2009, average life expectancy was 47 years, by the end of 2013, it was 52 years. Some of our hospitals now perform open heart surgeries, kidney transplants and other challenging operations as we reposition our health service to end decades of medical tourism that drains our scarce resources.

89. Together, in unity, we overcame Ebola, and in the process demonstrated the strength of the Nigerian spirit. And together, united, we must maintain our vigilance.

90. We cannot go back to the old ways where individual freedoms were trampled upon and citizens were locked up for expressing their views or criticising government.

91. We must continue to have free and fair elections. We cannot go back to the era where ballot box snatching and stuffing became the norm. Where your votes never counted.

92. Certainly, we cannot!

93. We have to move forward! Only forward!!, my dear people, Forward!!!

94. In moving forward, I see a Nigeria that thirsts for progress with children across the nation, eager for knowledge and safely in schools!

95. I see a Nigeria where all who have taken up arms, would again embrace peace!

96. I see a Nigeria where our women can aspire to any heights, without hindrance!

97. I see a Nigeria where the flames in the Eagles will rekindle, and the Falcons will soar higher in victory!

98. I see a Nigeria where the children of Mustapha, and Christopher, Ade and Ada, Timi and Bunmi, Nnamdi and Namadi, do not go hungry!

99. I see a Nigeria where all, no matter their beliefs, live in peace and harmony!

100. I see a Nigeria where the green passport is accorded a royal reception the world over!

101. I see a Nigeria where one day the next generation will take us to outer space.

102. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, leadership is about staying focused to achieve goals despite challenges. I have been faced with many challenges since coming to office as President. With your support and encouragement, we have stayed the course.

103. We are succeeding, against all odds. For the young Nigerian child, who grew up in the rural area, just like me, we are expanding opportunities and giving them hope. For the market woman, we are expanding opportunities. For our young entrepreneurs, we are expanding opportunities. For the right of our people to vote and for their voices to be heard, we are expanding opportunities. For Nigerians to have the right to free speech, we are expanding opportunities. For the job seekers, against all odds, we are expanding opportunities.

104. While serving our people, I will always ensure the rule of law. I do not intimidate, I expand the democratic space. I give voice to the voiceless and uphold the weak, for the nation belongs to us all. Fellow Nigerians, as we build our democracy, leaders must show temperance at all times. That is a virtue, one which I treasure, and will always uphold.

105. My people, Nigeria is destined for greatness. Today, here at Eagle Square, I say to Nigeria, that working together in love, in strength and in faith, we will build a nation of one people, united in purpose and in action.

106. Fellow Nigerians, it is forward ever! We must put our hopes to work! Together, we will realize our collective destiny.

107. Thank you.

108. God bless Nigeria.

0

20141111-032803.jpgThe Deputy Governor of Delta State, Prof. Amos Utuama SAN has advocated the Principle of Federalism in the handling of court cases in Nigeria to checkmate the volume of pending cases in high and supreme courts in nation.

The deputy governor stated this on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Asaba, Delta State during the opening ceremony of Nigerian Bar Association Asaba branch 2014 Law Week with theme: “The Judiciary in contemporary Nigeria”

Prof. Utuama opined that to avoid the current over loading of our courts including High and Supreme courts in the nation, certain cases should be entertained and concluded at the lower courts emphasizing that cases in the class of local government elections should not be extended to upper courts.

The deputy governor, who declared the Law Week open, observed that sometimes cases are moved to higher courts in form of Appeal for lack of confidence and trust in the ability of the lower courts to do justice to cases before it.

He challenged the Asaba branch of NBA to strive to produce the President of NBA and also to produce more Senior Advocates in the branch.

The Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon Justice Abiodun Smith called on legal practitioners to re-examine and rededicate themselves to impact positively in the society and commended the organizers of the Law Week for their good organizational ability.

In a key- note address at the occasion, the Chairman of Nigeria Bar Association, Asaba branch, Barr Oseyenim Chukwuma Esq said Law Week is a period when legal practitioners who practice at the Bar, the Law accemician and those who are privileged to occupy the exalted bench come together to interact, share experience and exchange ideas on how best the profession can sustain its value and maintain its leading role as a beacon of hope to the society.

Barr. Oseyenim Chukwuma stated that the choice of 2014 Law Week theme was as deliberate as the judiciary of today which is mainly concerned with justice delivery, adjudication and settlement of disputes, rendering and dispensing justice.

I want to humbly declare to you that I want to contest for the office of Governor of Delta state.”

Adding, he said: “I stand here before you in all sincerity to assure you that I’m contesting for this election not just because I’m from Delta North but because I want to be a child of the whole of Delta state.

“We are all here gathered as one people with common destiny. I want to stand for that election as a true son of Delta state. I seek your support. I seek your support, prayers and mandate. That is why I’m here to let you know that I am setting out to transform Delta state.”

“I want to assure you that the march we are starting today, is a consolidation of the opportunities that we have and I will expand on the opportunities that we have to grow Delta state to a situation where all of us will be proud and feel dignified anytime we see ourselves as people of this great state.

“I believe that we have one single commission to show our love for Delta state. One Delta, one destiny and one people. That is what we will continue to preach and that will remain the philosophy of the people of Delta state once we have the opportunity to serve in a higher capacity.”

“I am ready and set to serve you because I believe in Delta state and that every part of the state have a stake on what happens to the people. I have visited all the communities in Delta North, Delta Central and Delta South. I have a stake in the life of the communities. I know the communities and I believe that the communities know me. We have one thing in common and that is growth that will never be impeded. And that is what I promise to offer you.”

Obuh further explained that he is eminently qualified to contest the Delta state governorship election and emphasised that he has paid his dues to govern Deltans as a result of his proven integrity and service to humanity.

“Some people will ask, Who is Obuh? Obuh is a seven years old man that has served Delta state for 32 years in the civil service. 32 years that afforded me the opportunity to understand what government is all about and create policies that are meant to serve the interest of the people of the state. 32 years that has exposed me to know how policies fail and how they succeed and to knowing all the segments of this great state, the opportunities that exist and how we can tap into them. These years have greatly prepared me for longer service.

“They have also asked, “Who is Obuh? Is he a politician?” Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I’ve been a Permanent Secretary for eight years. If only on that score, for eight years, government has recognised me as a politician.

Before today, I had the opportunity of founding and funding a political support group that has been in existence since 2006. The PUI International participated in supporting PDP since 2007 up till today, in all elections that have been conducted and I know that the leaders of our political party recognise that. Even those who want to deny the fact in public, they realise and accept it in private.

“I am a politician and on top of that, a registered member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) being a card carrying member for the last four years. Who can be a better politician?, he asked.

Denying his alleged sponsorship by undisclosed persons, Obuh further told Deltans that, ” I left the civil service not because I’m tired, not because I was forced to retire, not because I didn’t know what I wanted to do, not because anybody compelled me to retire. I left the service voluntarily because I wanted to serve my people in a higher capacity.”

Emphasising his loyalty and allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the frontline governorship aspirant said, “There is no gainsaying the fact that we can only accomplish what we want, working on the platform of a great, united and solid political party and that is our PDP.

“I want to assure everybody that the march we are embarking on is a march that will grow PDP in strength and in size.

“We will continue to ensure that PDP will win all elections from the ward level up to the state and national level. We shall never reduce the size and potency of our great political party. We will pursue policies that would ensure that PDP serves the people and serve them well at all times.”

Speaking after the declaration, Hon. Ike Nwabuoku lauded the presence of nearly the entire Deltans at the declaration, saying that “Deltans have exhibited a great sense of patriotism in recognising that Obuh is determined to govern, represent and serve them.”

Also, the Publicity Secretary of Obuh Revelation Network, Mr. Anthony Mogbeyiteren Mene thanked all the support groups working for Sir Anthony Obuh, noting that their action is in the collective interest of all Deltans at home and in the Diaspora.

The mega rally and declaration witnessed acrobatic display from Esan land organised by Sir Ben Agazuma, Igbo cultural dance, Hausa and Yoruba communities dances, seasoned musicians like Emma Ogosi and Daddy Shokey among others.

THE people of Ndokwa West local government area of Delta State have described Hon. Azuka Azaka as an effective representative of the people in the state House of Assembly.

Speaking when a team of journalists who were invited to Ndemili and some of the communities in the local government area to see some projects executed by Hon. Azaka through self-help and constituency projects, the people insisted that one unique attribute of the law maker is that he relates personally with people.

According to Chief Uche Okonye, Chief Patrick Ndego, Rev. Michael Ozegbe, Hon. Azaka though, was elected to make good laws for Deltans he has attracted developmental

projects and when the projects were needed urgently by the people, he used his personal money to execute such projects.

“Hon. Azuka is working very well for the masses, we cannot count what he has attracted as dividends of democracy to our community, though he is doing such in other communities, we have enjoyed the dividends very well within his few years in office, more than the years of democratic governance in the country,” Chief Okonye said, adding, “he graded all the link roads in Ndokwa West, especially, Ndemili/Utagba Uno road which is very important to us, he built an administrative block at the Girls Grammer School, Ndemili, and at least one public school in each of the communities in the local government area.”

Chief Ndego added, “when he came here and requested for some projects, we gave him a list, we thought it was all politics but, he promised to do what he could and I can tell you that today, he has executed all the projects we requested from him, the Administrative Building in the Girls Grammer School, the market, the electricity project, the link road to Utagba-Uno.”

“The community requested for the bulldozing of the town’s civic centre and he did it, he is always interacting with the people and we are witnessing this type of representation for the first time,” Rev. Ozegbe enthused.

To Mrs Clementina Onyidu, Hon. Azaka “has given us more than stomach infrastructure, he provided for us what to use in training our children and feed our family, we are in support of Hon. Azaka and want him to return to the Delta State House of Assembly in 2015.”

The Principal of Girls Secondary School, Ndemili, Mrs Theresa Eze said,
“personally, I have not met Hon. Azaka but, he is a man who has the interest of the people at heart, he has attracted these projects, but the community should assist in supervising projects executed by the Delta State Oil Producing Communities Development Commission (DESOPADEC),” adding, “for the first time, the politicians were considering the school administrators, before now, they were talking about classroom, classroom without considering the welfare of the administrators, this administrative block is a good work, we are more comfortable.”

At Abbi, the Principal of Abbi Grammer School, Abbi, Mr Felix Enuenwosu said, Hon. Azaka, “built a modernized administrative building, before now, we were using demarcated classrooms as offices, we used plywood to demarcate offices, this structure has contributed immensely to productivity because, apart from your documents being safe, your records of work are well kept and people show more enthusiasm to work.”

“When the community heard of this project which was the first of its kind in any public school in Ndokwa nation, the indigenes came in and made personal contributions to make it a first class administrative building in appreciation of Hon. Azaka’s efforts,” the Principal said, adding, “the law maker is not showing selfishness, he is showing equity in the distribution of developmental projects, we thank him for bringing quality persons to supervise the projects, the quality, the nature of the work.”

A Youth Leader in Abbi, Mr Joseph Eghor, described the projects of Hon. Azaka “as noble because, nobody has donated an edifice like this in the pasts, he has feelings for teachers, teachers are no longer in haste to go home, they can do their work in the school comfortably, politicians should emulate our Honourable, Azuka Azaka who have proven that our people can enjoy dividends of democracy,” while, Mr Nwose Albert, a lecturer at the Federal University of Technology, Minna stated, “Hon. Azuka can come to a place without making noise, very unassuming human being, I support him for second term, even if he is going for a fourth term.”

Utuama promised to consolidate on the existing gains of democracy in Delta State as well as improving on it for the good of all Deltans.

He made the promise on Tuesday, November 03, 2014 while receiving the nomination form at his country home, Otu- Jeremi, Ughelli South Local Government Area.

“I am going into the gubernatorial race with one message and one expectation. The expectation is that, I am going to consolidate the gains of democracy since 1999 till date, add to it, and move Delta State forward for the good of all. Anything good that has happened in Delta State will be consolidated, for the good of everybody irrespective of your background and tribe, because I am a Deltan”. Prof. Utuama assured.

“All that I know how to do in life is to serve. I have never served in any capacity with the intention to profit myself alone, but I have given faultless service in wherever I belong or call to serve”. Prof. Utuama asserted.

The state deputy governor while expressing his appreciation to the Peoples Network for Utuama and the overwhelming supporters, noted that power and authority comes from God only.

According to him; ” I am overwhelmed by this gesture by the Peoples Network for Utuama and humbled by the effort you have all put in to secure this expression of interest and nomination form for the gubernatorial race of Delta State. Those who asked me why were I reluctant to be a gubernatorial candidate? I told them, I was not reluctant but I was waiting for God’s call”.

“I was waiting for God’s call because without God I cannot be where I am today and without God I cannot move forward. I think all that is happening today is God’s doing, I saw it! I saw it, and I believe it and God is doing it for us”. Prof Utuama stated.

Further, he said, ” I want to assure you that by the grace of God and with your support and the support of Deltans, we shall get there. By the grace of God and your support for this course, we shall get to our destination. I am very sure if we are able to win the primaries and also win the election and we are on the seat, you shall not be disappointed by the grace of God”.

Prof. Utuama, who asserted that a formal date for his declaration will come after President Jonathan’s declaration, assured that all that needs to be done will be properly followed in ensuring that the effort by all bears fruit, adding that the confidence of competence, capacity and capability reposed on him is overwhelming.

He asserted that, with the developmental stride of Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, there is need for somebody who is competent, who has the capacity and the integrity to succeed him.

“And with so many people in the race, who else is better to succeed our amiable governor other than a professor of law, who have serve this state from its inception as a civilian government? Prof. Utuama has served as an attorney general and also as a deputy governor, he is trusted and reliable. We are begging Prof. Utuama to accept the nomination form because we know he can continue the good work which our amiable Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, has started and he will move it to a higher level”. Dr. Ogahun stated.

“It has come to our notice that some unscrupulous individuals have been pasting the posters of the Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama (SAN), purportedly announcing his ambition to vie for the 2015 governorship election in the state.

“The said posters have been sighted in the Mosogar area of Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.

“We wish to make it abundantly clear that such individuals do not have either express or implied permission of His Excellency, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN) to print, paste or distribute any posters whatsoever linking him with the 2015 Governorship contest in the state.

“For the umpteenth time, we wish to state for the avoidance of doubt that much as Prof. Utuama is eminently qualified to vie for any political office of his choice in 2015, he has not declared his intention to run for any office, knowing full well that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to blow the whistle.”

UK to return £6.8m of Ibori loot to Nigeria

London (November 04, 2014)–

The UK government is to return an additional 6.8 million pounds of the confiscated loot of former Delta Governor, James Ibori, to Nigeria.

Mr Rupert Broad, UK Metropolitan Police Senior Investigator, disclosed this in London on Tuesday at a meeting on “Supporting Policing in Nigeria: What Role for Police in the Nigerian Diaspora” held in the House of Commons.

While speaking on UK and Nigeria’s anti-corruption partnership, Broad said “out of the eight million pounds confiscated from Ibori, 1.2 million pounds had so far been retuned to Nigeria, while the rest was waiting for redistribution as to when it would be sent back to Nigeria.”

He also said that an additional 80 million pounds had been temporarily confiscated from Ibori and his associates, including Mr Patrice Gohil, one of his lawyers.

“Approximately, 80 million pounds is temporarily frozen and a confiscation hearing has been fixed for April 2015, where the judge will determine how much was stolen, after which it would be returned to Nigeria.”

The British Southcrown Court in April 2012 sentenced Ibori to 13 years jail term for fraud and money laundering.

Broad, who attributed the success of the Ibori case to partnership with the nation’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), said “the case signified Nigeria’s commitment to the fight corruption.

“In the light of the Ibori case, Nigeria has done a fantastic job in tackling corruption.

“Corruption does not go away easily, addressing it requires continuous process and the UK Metropolitan Police will continue to collaborate with Nigerian authorities on cross border international investigation.”

Similarly, Mr Nsikan Etuk, the Director of the UK Nigeria Police Forum, said that the diaspora was a powerful tool for the reformation of the nation’s police force.

Etuk, who spoke on “Supporting Policing in Nigeria”, expressed the commitment of the Forum incollaborating with government in tackling challenges impeding efficiency in policing in the country.

He said that the Forum, whose membership included serving and retired police personnel, was established following challenges facing the Nigerian community in the UK.

In the same vein, Amb. Kunle Bamgbose, the Nigerian Deputy High Commissioner to the UK, said the nation’s police officers were among the brightest in Africa, adding that they were only impeded by operational challenges.

He said “inadequate equipment such as communication gadgets, the lack of efficient forensic laboratories and other logistic problems are some of the challenges facing the police force.”

Bamgbose, however, said “it is difficult to impose UK policing culture in Nigeria because the environments are different.”

According to him, partnership in training and capacity building of officers will be an ideal area of collaboration.

The meeting, which had participants from the Nigerian community, was chaired by Mrs Meg Hillier, the Chair of the UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Nigeria.

2015 Presidential Polls: "I Can Dislodge PDP" -Okorocha

Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha
Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has said if given the opportunity to fly the flag of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming presidential elections, he will defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate without struggle.

Okorocha insisted that he has the capacity to defeat President Goodluck Jonathan if given the opportunity by his party, All Progressives Congress to be its flag bearer in the 2015 presidential election.

“I believe that if I fly the flag of APC, definitely I will bring victory to APC in 2015. I am the only one who can defeat PDP without struggle. No PDP candidate can face me in the other parts of the country. We don’t have problem with PDP, our problem is how to choose the candidate that can defeat it.”

Rochas spoke in Kaduna on Monday, November 03, 2014 at a rally organised by a northern group, Arewa Peoples Grand Coalition.

The group had urged him to pick the presidential ticket because he stood a better chance to defeat the PDP candidate (Goodluck Jonathan) and other contestants in the race than all the APC presidential aspirants.

Governor Okorocha noted that none of the contestants had ever provided free education in the country or in a state, stressing that he had over the years provided free education in some parts of the country, adding that he would provide same all over the country if he becomes the President.

Earlier, Okorocha had visited the Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, and laid a foundation for Rochas Secondary School in the emirate, which he said would be free.

Okorocha, who spoke both Hausa and English languages, said, “I am the only candidate that can dislodge the PDP in the 2015 presidential election. Tell me of all the people who are eyeing the presidency, how many of them have provided free education.

“There is a need for a change in Nigeria, it is a must, and it must happen. The change has become necessary in our country.”

Breaking News>>> 2015: PDP Hands Over Party Structures to Govs

20141103-105027.jpgGovernors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have secured the approval of the Presidency to enable them control the political structures in their respective states ahead of the 2015 general elections.

The trend will allow the outgoing governors pick their successors and also go for any office of their choice provided they ensure maximum support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid.

Blank NEWS Online understands that President Jonathan has directed the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, to hand over the political structures in the respective states to the governors.

The new development, which has effectively strengthened the governors against all other contenders in their respective states, will allow the governors to have their way and also give the President 100 per cent support during his election.

The Presidency is said to have been advised by political strategists to reverse the position of the National Working Committee headed by Muazu to win the support of the governors, described as the key determinants of his victory.

The presidential directive is therefore an unhindered freedom to the governors to decide on the delegate lists of their respective states to be used in choosing candidates for the different elections slated for next year.

President Jonathan insists that “The PDP constitution as currently practiced gives a lot of room for the governors to influence the election of the president.

“So, if a governor who claims to support you cannot give you at least 70 per cent of the votes, then you should know that that governor does not mean well for you.”

In spite of the new directive from the Presidency, a host of the aspirants are upbeat on their chances ahead of the November 29 governorship primaries, if the number of those who have bought the PDP nomination forms is anything to go by.

It could also be recalled that the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, announced that the NWC had extended the deadline for the sale of nomination forms for all categories of aspirants, which according to the party, ought to have closed on October 30.

In Delta State, those who want Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan’s job and have purchased the PDP forms include:

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains have commended stakeholders of the party in the state for the successful conduct of the ward congresses held on Saturday.

Dr. Uduaghan, Chairperson of the Congresses Team, Chief Josephine Anenih, Senator James Manager, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, former Niger Delta Affairs Minister, Elder Godsday Orubebe among others at a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Asaba on Sunday described the exercise as peaceful.

Governor Uduaghan who is the leader of the party in the state ascribed the peace witnessed during the exercise to the maturity of party faithfuls in the state.

He observed that it was a good development that aspirants for elective offices in the state were not taking their aspirations as do or die rather were talking on ways to move the state forward.

While commending the Anenih’s led PDP team that conducted the Ward congresses in the state, the Governor urged members of the PDP to display the same level of maturity and peaceful engagements in the primaries of the PDP and during the general elections.

“There are other primaries to be conducted and we need to be peaceful, we must use this engagement process to make the state peaceful,” he said.

Dr. Uduaghan advised the aspirants to “continue to tolerate each other as there is no way we can be one hundred per cent happy, we have to learn to be patient, remember one life lost, one property lost can never be replaced.

“In this struggle (for whatever position you are vying for), keep a window of friendship, don’t destroy the friendship you have so that when you get the ticket, you can reach out to the other aspirants for their support during the general elections.”

Anenih on her part commended members of the PDP in Delta State for the success recorded during the ward congresses and urged them to maintain the existing peace and security witnessed during the exercise.

“I am proud of the conduct of the ward congress in the state, you have done well, you people have made me proud, I want to thank the Chief Security Officer of the state for providing an enabling, secured environment for the peaceful conduct of the ward congresses and in particular, Deltans for engaging in peaceful discussions,” she said.

The Acting Chairman of PDP Delta State, Chief Emmanuel Ighomena also observed that the ward congresses in the state were better than the previous exercises, stressing that this ward congress was organised without any disagreement or rancour.

Senators Ifeanyi Okowa, James Manager, members of the House of Representatives, Leo Ogor, Ndudi Elemulu, PDP leader, Senator Patrick Osakwe, Rt. Hon. THE Executive Director, FENOG Nigeria Limited (FNL), Mr. Matthew Tonlagha has appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to prevail on Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to urgently go ahead and award its multi-billion

Dollars Trans Niger Pipeline Looplines Project (TNPL).

He said FENOG was being weighed down by low patronage by the multinationals on its huge investments in the Oil and Gas Industry.

The leading indigenous company, he revealed, has just sank over 70 Million Dollars in the purchase of modern equipment meant to boost the operations of oil companies, especially in the Niger Delta region.

At the commissioning of the equipment at FENOG’s Jetty/Fabrication Yard in Ugbuwangue town, Warri, Delta State by the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Engr, Ernest Nwapa, Mr. Tonlagha expressed worry over the delay in the award of the Trans Niger Pipeline Looplines Project (TNPL) by SPDC.

While appealing to President Jonathan, Petroleum Minister, Group Managing Director of NNPC and NCDMB boss to prevail on SPDC for the award of the TNPL project, Mr. Tonlagha alleged that SPDC was dragging its feet over the award of the project because indigenous companies in the Niger Delta region, like FENOG stands to benefit from it, saying SPDC prefers awarding the project to foreign companies operating in the region at the detriment of indigenous companies.

But he said, if the Nigerian Local Content Act must work in order for indigenous oil and gas companies to benefit and help in the development of the Niger Delta region, the

President should see to it that the TNPL project was awarded quickly by SPDC, lamenting that FENOG Nigeria Limited has invested heavily on capacity building over the years, but without adequate patronage by the multi-national oil companies.

Tonlagha said, “We have been investing huge resources on modern equipment over the years because of our high hope on the Nigerian Local Content Act, but we are being frustrated by the multi-national oil companies, we want President Jonathan to help us. We want the Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke to come to our rescue; they should tell SPDC to go ahead and award the TNPL project in the Niger Delta region.”

The Executive Director of FENOG also said, “We have invested heavily on capacity building over the years, but with low patronage from the multi-national oil companies. It is the Federal Government that is holding us down now. We are commissioning our equipment and they are supposed to give us projects that they are supposed to commission. This is the third time we are inviting them to come and commission our modern equipment, but we have not invited them to come and commission any project here. So it is a challenge for the Federal Government. What will be the hope of Nigerians tomorrow if we continue to invest in equipment without calling them to come and commission projects that we have completed? So, these are the things that President Goodluck Jonathan said that they are going to push for and we hope that next time when we see them come here, it is to commission projects that FENOG has completed for the oil companies.”

He said, “Since Akpevweoghene arrived Nigeria and commissioned by the Petroleum Minister three years ago, we are yet to secure a single job for it. What will be the future of Nigerians that are buying modern equipment without being encouraged with job by the International Oil Companies (IOCs). Is it because we are from the Niger Delta region that we are being frustrated? The President and the Petroleum Minister should tell us whether we should still put our hope on the Nigerian Content Law. Should we still depend on the Nigerian Content Law? The foreign companies being given jobs by the IOCs do not have barges in Nigeria. It is only when they are awarded contracts that they bring barges from outside the country to Nigeria and those of us that have our barges in the country are not patronized. This is not fair! The Federal Government should give its total support to the Nigerian Content Law; no effort should be spared by the Government to make the Nigerian Content Law to work for the betterment of our people. The IOCs must not be allowed to frustrate the Nigerian Content Law. We urge the Federal Government to give its full backing to the Content Law so that indigenous companies like FENOG are not forced out of operations.”

“It is now over three years since Akpevweoghene was commissioned by the Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke and we are yet to secure any job for it. We have invested so much on equipment, but there is no encouragement from the Federal Government and the IOCs. How long do we have to wait? We have borrowed heavily from banks to acquire equipment and the interests are rising. We need jobs; we need to be encouraged by the Federal Government and the IOCs” he added.

Speaking in the same vein, the General Manager of FENOG Nigeria Limited, Engr. Uwakwe Chukwudi called on the Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke to prevail on Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to award the Trans Niger Pipeline Loopline Project (TNPL).

In his address at the commissioning of three fleets of equipment recently acquired by the company, Engr. Chukwudi said that the company was well equipped to handle the TNPL.

Engr. Chukwudi said the Nigerian Local Content Act has become a catalyst and motivator for stronger commitment to the development of Nigeria contractor’s capacity and capability in all aspects of the economy, especially the Oil and Gas Industry.

According to him, “It is in furtherance to this commitment that encouraged FENOG Nigeria Limited to acquire modern self-propelled onshore Pipe Lay Barge and three service vessels, which are based on modern technology. In addition, we are commissioning a PD 350 Ton HDD rig and Phase 1 of the 350 Rigid Pavement access road to the jetty with associated covered drain.”

“The Self-Propelled Onshore Pipe Lay Barge is 75m in length, 14m breadth with a draft (fully loaded) of 1M with a capacity to lay pipe from 2” to 52” diameter. Besides, each of the three 500HP SERVICE VESSELS are kitted with sophisticated features while the 350 Ton HDD rig has ability to grab/push or pull line pipes, trust bore and for tunnel works. These patriotic efforts and initiatives of FENOG are aimed at effectively keying into the good gesture of our Government while meeting our Clients’ expectations and needs for quality services. The three fleets of equipment and other facilities were suitably acquired for strategic projects especially the TRANS NIGER PIPELINE LOOPLINE (TNPL) PROJECT FOR SPDC. We, however, use this opportunity to call on the Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources, Group Managing Director NNPC, the Executive Secretary, NCDMB and Group General Manager, NAPIMS, to prevail on SPDC to award the TNPL project since huge resources have been expended in acquiring these equipment. In the same vein, we humbly appeal to our Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, who is the father of the state, to join forces with other stakeholders to ensure that the project is awarded within the shortest possible time,” Engr. Chukwudi said.

According to him also, “The latest equipment slated for commissioning will no doubt add momentum to the success of FENOG Nigeria Limited in the Oil and Gas Industry. We appeal to all IOC’s and government bodies to adopt our novel method of pipeline installation as a better technology invented by FENOG. In line with the quest for being the best Nigerian Company, with 100% Nigerian human resources, we have recently and aggressively moved into shallow and deep water operations by the acquisition of “Akpevweoghene Derrick Pipe Lay Barge” meant for the construction of platforms, heavy lifting and laying of pipelines in both shallow and deep waters.”

But he lamented that, “However, regrettably, this is the fourth year of Akpevweoghene lay barge in the country and we are yet to secure a job for it to enable us to recoup the huge capital cost for its acquisition. Escravos Export System Project (EESP) is Chevron’s prime project where Akpevweoghene Derrick Lay Barge can be fully utilized. We therefore use this opportunity to appeal to NNPC/Chevron Nigeria Limited for the above project.”

KSJI Marks All Souls Day: Fr. Okwuagwu Urges Xtians To Pray For The Dead

20141102-143232.jpgMEMBERS of Knights of St. John International today (02/11/14) marked the feast of All Souls Day with Very Rev. Fr. Pius Okwuagwu urging Christians to pray for those who died to enter heaven.

Rev, Fr. Okwuagwu who celebrated the Mass at St. John De Baptist Catholic Church, Agbor emphasized that “it is not all those who have died in Christ that has entered heaven because nothing unclean can enter heaven, that is why we must pray for the dead.”

“Only the living can praise God, the dead cannot praise God,” he said, adding, “Only those who are alive can say, God forgive me, the dead cannot, so, the Church fixed today to pray in a special way for the forgiveness of the sins of those in purgatory so that they can be clean to enter heaven.”

Fr. Okwuagwu said, “Heaven is where all of us aspires to be, today, we are being reminded that one day, we are going to depart this world, God is reminding us that we are pilgrims here on earth, that this world is not our own but, will you wait until you leave this world and expect your relations to pray for you? No. We should live a good life so that we can have direct entry to heaven because you cannot be sure that your relations will pray for you.”

He emphasized that the All Souls Day “calls for sober reflection for us to live good lives here on earth, be peaceful, forgive others and call on God to strengthen us in our faith.”

Delta LG Polls: Success Justifies Uduaghan's Adherence To Due Process -Ogeah Esq

20141031-060848.jpgThe successful conduct and outcome of last Saturday’s local government election in Delta State has justified government’s painstaking planning that preceded the election, Chike Ogeah, Commissioner for Information, has said.

Noting that some politicians had misconstrued the seeming delay in holding the election, Ogeah said as a platform for the will of the people to be expressed, elections at any level must meet minimum standards for the confidence of the people in the electoral process to be boosted.

“Dr. Uduaghan is a stickler for due process and the rule of law. That is why he initiated and saw through the constitution of an independent electoral umpire backed by law. He presented a bill to the State House of Assembly to pass an enabling law for the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC). That process laid the ground work for the emergence of a truly independent electoral umpire in DSIEC”, Ogeah stated in Asaba.

He noted that throughout the entire process, the governor enjoined every stakeholder to play by the rule. “More importantly, he ensured that the electoral body got every material – funds, logistics etc – that it needed to succeed”, the commissioner said.

Ogeah congratulated the government and people of the state for the successful outcome of the election. “This is a victory not just for His Excellency, the Governor and DSIEC but also the electorate who voted overwhelmingly in expressing their will and their votes counted”, the commissioner stated.

To underscore the success of the poll, he said that the fact that the umbrella group of all registered political parties in the state applauded the election and the outcome makes the Delta State council poll a benchmark in transparency.

Following the conclusion of the poll, the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria, a group drawn from members of registered political parties, Delta State chapter, had endorsed the election as free, transparent and a true reflection of the wish of the people.

Its chairman, Mr. Paul Osamade, in a press conference in Asaba, commended the Governor Uduaghan, the DSIEC and the people of the state for success of the election.

The new chairmen have since been inaugurated by the governor in a ceremony in Asaba on Monday, October 27, 2014.

I will not disappoint them. I will, by the grace of God give my senatorial zone quality representation. I also want to appreciate President Goodluck Jonathan and assure him that I will put all my National and International reach at his disposal.

Meanwhile, the foremost political platform in the senatorial district, the G3, comprising Isoko, Ijaw and Itsekiri, has fully backed Dr. Uduaghan’s senatorial ambition.
