The Board and Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) express heartfelt appreciation to Nigerians for their support and excitement over the safe and successful restart of the 60,000 barrels-per-day Old Port Harcourt Refinery. This achievement marks a significant step forward after years of operational challenges and underperformance.
We are, however, aware of unfounded claims by certain individuals suggesting that the refinery is not producing products. For clarity, the Old Port Harcourt Refinery is currently operating at 70% of its installed capacity, with plans to ramp up to 90%. The refinery is producing the following daily outputs:
Straight-Run Gasoline (Naphtha): Blended into 1.4 million liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS or petrol)
Kerosene: 900,000 liters
Automotive Gas Oil (AGO or Diesel): 1.5 million liters
Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO): 2.1 million liters
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG): Additional volumes
It is worth noting that the refinery incorporates crack C5, a blending component from our sister company, Indorama Petrochemicals (formerly Eleme Petrochemicals), to produce gasoline that meets required specifications. Blending is a standard practice in refineries globally, as no single unit can produce gasoline that fully complies with any country’s standards without such processes.
Additionally, we have made substantial progress on the new Port Harcourt Refinery, which will begin operations soon without prior announcements.
We urge Nigerians to focus on the remarkable achievements being realized under the able and progressive leadership of President Bola Tinubu, GCFR, and to support efforts aimed at delivering more dividends to the nation. Malicious attacks on clear progress only undermine the significant strides made by NNPC Ltd. and the country.
Let us move forward together in building a stronger and more self-sufficient energy sector.
In an eye-opening discussion, security stakeholders at the 5th Annual Lecture Series of the Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) have underscored the importance of unbiased media coverage and the urgent need for a rebirth of values in tackling Nigeria’s escalating insecurity.
The event, held on November 20, 2024, in Asaba, Delta State, brought together key figures from various sectors to explore local, implementable solutions to the nation’s security crisis.
The lecture, titled “Security Challenges: Finding a Local Implementable Solution,” featured prominent speakers, including the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, representatives from security agencies, and notable media professionals. The focus of the forum was to confront the rising security concerns in the country while offering practical and locally driven responses.
The Delta Governor, represented at the event by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, said his administration is defining, devising, and instituting local implementable solutions to address issues of security in Delta state.
The Governor in the address said he was deploying all necessary resources, energies, collaborations, partnerships, stakeholders engagement, towards ensuring that Delta state remains peaceful and secured for all residents and investors.
He said: “As a government, the issue of security is one that is at the very core of this administration’s strategic focus and its great importance has been underscored by the fact that Enhanced Peace and Security is the fourth Component of our M.O.R.E Agenda, complimented by the other critical components of Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All and Realistic Reforms, which collectively form the MORE Agenda.
“We are very conscious of the fact that Enhanced Peace and Security creates the right atmosphere for social and economic life and it is quite obvious that the other aspects of the development agenda cannot materialize without deliberate and sustained prevalence of peace and security.
“We have built and initiated mechanisms to detect early warning signals, conflict prevention, conflict resolution, and conflict control. We have equally engaged with critical stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, and women, amongst others, to maintain peace and resolve conflicts.
“This administration has created platforms to encourage and promote cultural interfaces between communities, established and maintained channels for policy and programmes feedback from the grassroots and stakeholders, especially through our town hall meetings, engaged our youths in productive and gainful employment through our social safety net schemes and initiatives to mitigate youth restiveness and collaborated robustly with all security agencies in the state, by providing logistics and operational support in the maintenance of law and order.”
To underscore the governor’s commitment to security, he said the state government donated 31 operational vehicles to the police and other security agencies to strengthen their efficiency and enhance the joint security operations “in our domain through our existing security special purpose vehicle, now code-named “Operation Delta Sweep.”
He said the donation was prompted by the general insecurity experienced in the country and as part of his administration’s commitment towards enhancing peace and security, the existing state joint security force formerly known as ‘Delta Hawk’ has now been rebranded to ‘Operation Delta Sweep,’.
According to the governor: “Our security agencies deserve commendation for their robust responses and action which have recorded significant successes in combating crimes such as illegal oil bunkering, kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and drug-related offences, and the rebranding of the joint security force reflects this administration’s resolve to embrace our own indigenous, pragmatic strategies to reduce crime to its barest minimum.”
Governor Oborevwori said his administration “remains committed to providing the necessary support to ensure peace and security in Delta State and with the measures we have put in place so far, we are confident that our people will enjoy a secure and peaceful state going forward.”
He commended members of the Delta Online Publishers Forum, DOPF, saying they “have remained reliable partners in progress, not only in reporting and promoting the MORE Agenda of this administration, comprehensively but for also embarking on this annual intellectual discourse which has continued to interrogate and expand the frontiers of our national conversation on salient and germane issues.”
“We give kudos to DOPF for the courage and commitment to conceptualize and deliver a quality event of this nature and assure you that this administration remains irrevocably committed to openness and transparency in the business of governance.
“We see the press, particularly the online newspapers practitioners, as partners in development and we are committed to providing the conducive and enabling environment for them to continue to discharge their journalistic duties and responsibilities in the collective interest and well-being of our people.
“The only thing we desire is that journalists and owners of media establishments should please fact-check their information with relevant government officials before publication for accuracy, fairness, and balance, in line with the ethics of the profession.
“They should not resort to blackmail or the very disturbing penchant of media trials, persecution, cyber bullying and premature judgements against anybody or institution, until the the proper agencies and courts of law have investigated, deliberated and pronounced on such situations.
“The media has a powerful social and cultural impact on the society and thus, it should reflect and project the positive image of the society, especially in this day and age of new media, so it is equally imperative for media entrepreneurs and practitioners to embrace the dissemination of news and information that will promote national unity and harmony as a major priority.”
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Police Public Relations Officer (FPRO), who was the Guest Speaker, called on journalists to steer clear of involvement in cybercrimes, such as fraud, fake news, and misinformation.
He noted that young Nigerians, often highly skilled in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), are frequently misusing their expertise for criminal activities, making it increasingly difficult for security forces to maintain order.
“The Nigerian government is actively fighting these issues, with President Tinubu having ordered a clampdown on cybercriminals,” Adejobi said, stressing the importance of collective efforts to combat cybercrime. He also warned against “paid journalism,” condemning journalists who accept money for stories, which he argued undermines public trust and the ethical standards of the profession.
Further, ACP Adejobi advocated for a community-driven approach to policing, stressing the need for traditional leaders and local institutions to play an active role in formal security efforts. “Until we adopt collective policing, we can’t get it right. Involving traditional rulers in security initiatives can significantly contribute to peace,” he said.
He also cautioned journalists to be wary of unverified reports, particularly on social media, where the spread of misinformation is rampant.
The event also featured remarks from Mr. Emma Ogidi, the Chairman of the occasion, who called for greater engagement with local vigilante groups to address security challenges. He stressed the importance of accurate and balanced reporting, particularly in political matters.
In his opening remarks, Emmanuel Enebeli, Chairman, DOPF, stated that the theme was chosen because of the shared and collective concern of the people on the security challenges in the country.
“Today’s lecture strongly underlines our professional obligation and social responsibility as Delta Online Publishers Forum.
“It is not only to report on these challenges but to also actively seek solutions that contribute to the safety and security of our society.
“The need for a security solution is urgent, as the threat touches every corner of our nation from our cities to the smallest community,” Enebeli said.
The discussions at the DOPF Annual Lecture Series highlighted the urgent need for a unified front in combating insecurity in Nigeria. Through responsible journalism, community engagement, and cooperation with security forces, the country can hope to achieve a safer and more secure future.
At the panel discussion, experts such as Professor Odikasieme Emmanus Nonye, Chairman of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practitioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN) in Delta State; Bridget Dominion Foh Affiah, Executive Director of the Ideal Women Advancement Initiative; Amb (Pst.) Edewor Egedegbe, Founding Executive Director of VREL; and Mr. Odita Sunday-Udememaguna, Head of Defence/Security Affairs at The Guardian Newspaper, with Professor Kemi Emina, as the Moderator, emphasised the importance of value rebirth. They agreed that the process should begin at the family level and extend to other levels of the nation.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday, inaugurated a 16-member Assets Verification Committee, led by Dr Ernest Afolabi-Umakhihe, with a charge to confirm the existence, conditions, locations and ownership of all State assets.
At the event held at the Exco Chamber, Government House, Benin City, the Governor said the committee is not intended to witch-hunt anybody, but to strengthen the fight against corruption, which is part of his mandate.
“Prior to my inauguration on the 12th November 2024, I set up the Transition Committee to collate all necessary information for a seamless hand over of Government. That committee, which was headed by Dr. Pius Odubu, had since submitted its report.
“Based on the report, we have found it necessary to set up this committee to establish the true status of our assets as a State.
“This assets verification exercise is therefore a process that will confirm the existence, conditions, locations and ownership of all assets; whether fixed or movable, tangible or intangible.
“We are trusting this 16-member committee to do thorough checks and provide us with an updated record of Edo State assets and property.
“I want to also assure you that this exercise is not intended to witch-hunt anybody but to strengthen the fight against corruption, which is part of my mandate as Governor.
“The assignment we are giving you today is in line with my promise to ensure probity, accountability and transparency in government,” said the governor.
Briefing journalists after the inauguration, the committee chairman, Ernest Afolabi-Umakhihe, said his committee is on a fact-finding mission to unravel the state of affairs as inherited by the current administration on 12th November 2024.
He noted that the transition committee report highlighted some gaps which will be filled by his committee in order to ensure accountability, transparency and accuracy.
“We want to have full details of ongoing projects across the state, looking into financial and non financial aspects of the government to present the facts the way they should be,” he said.
He added that the committee’s mandate is to know the level of projects and to develop a pathway for government’s development agenda.
A member of the committee, Kassim Afegbua also dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP on the alleged invasion of the state PDP secretariat, shutdown of the e-governance platform among others.
He noted that the committee is to interrogate some grey areas in the last administration as a lot of persons will be invited to face it in line with its terms of reference.
Dr Patrick Obahiagbon on his part, said the exercise is to ensure accountability, detect fraud and ensure financial accountability by the past administration.
The report of the committee is expected to be made public at the end of the assignment.

The Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Ede Dafinone, has described the renewed agitation for the creation of Anioma state from the current Delta State as a call for equity and progress.
This is even as Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas representing Delta South Senatorial District on October 24, 2024, lent his voice to the bill for the creation of Anioma state.
Joel-Onowakpo posited that the creation of Anioma state, will birth a truly Delta state apart from resolving the imbalance of states in the South-East geo-political zone of Nigeria.
Senator Dafinone, while aligning with the agitation, noted that as a true son of Delta central, the creation of Anioma state would bring about a “true Delta state” with state capital in Delta Central, thereby boosting regional development.
In a statement made available to journalists, he noted that the Urhobo nation, the largest ethnic group in Delta state, with over 10 million people and a strong presence across eight local government areas in Delta Central and parts of Delta South and Bayelsa State, this discussion is equally significant to them.
According to Senator Dafinone: “The renewed agitation for the creation of Anioma state from the current Delta state has sparked a meaningful dialogue about equity, progress, and the future structure of our federation.
“As a proud son of Delta Central, I have observed these developments with keen interest and believe this presents an opportunity to reflect on the vision for a “true Delta State.”
“I wholeheartedly support the aspiration of our Anioma brothers and sisters for state creation, a pursuit deeply rooted in the principles of fairness and regional development.
“For the Urhobo nation, the largest ethnic group in Delta state, with over 10 million people and a strong presence across eight local government areas in Delta Central and parts of Delta South and Bayelsa State, this discussion is equally significant.
“While the Urhobo nation, with its abundant human and material resources, stands firmly qualified for its own state, we remain supportive of the Anioma cause.
“This solidarity underscores the unity and mutual respect that have characterized our co-existence with other ethnic groups in Delta State since its creation on August 27, 1991.
“The industrious and egalitarian spirit of the Urhobo people has fostered harmony and cooperation within the multi-ethnic fabric of Delta State.
“This shared history strengthens our collective desire for structures that ensure equitable development and representation.
“By advocating for a “true Delta State,” with its capital situated in Delta Central, we embrace a vision that honours our rich heritage while advancing the cause of inclusivity and progress for all ethnic groups in the region.”
He added, “I align myself with the renewed call for the creation of Anioma State and the broader idea of reimagining Delta State for the benefit of all its constituents.
“This is not merely about geography or demographics; it is a commitment to equity, sustainable development, and a future where every ethnic group has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can support these aspirations while fostering unity and a shared sense of purpose.”
The federal government is finalizing plans to make funds available to finance the completion of the Okpai power plant project.
This, according to Senator Ned Nwoko, is in order to enhance electricity supply to Kwale and the entire Delta North Senatorial District in Delta State.
Senator Nwoko made this revelation at the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, during a courtesy visit to the palace recently.
The Okpai Power Plant, located in Ndokwa east local government area, recently increased its capacity to 980 megawatts but has not provided electricity to host communities. This has been the burden of the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Nwoko.
“Haven met with the minister of of Budget and National Planning, they are thinking of exceptionally making money available for that stepdown to be done. So, we are making some progress from the federal government.
“There are power issues in Delta North as we have in Nigeria, but as far back as 2005, His Excellency, President Olusegun Obasanjo, commissioned the Okpai power plant to serve Delta North”.
Senator Nwoko who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, believes that the laudable initiative, with effective management would alleviate the suffering of epileptic power supply to Delta residents.
Senator Nwoko had revealed that investors are interested in partnering with the state government through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), to improve power supply to the region.
The proposal also involves implementing the Electricity Act 2023, which would attract further investment and support independent power projects.
“There are financiers that have come to meet with me in Abuja, they are prepared to provide the funding for these projects.
“And they are only asking for one thing; they are asking for guarantee that they are able to collect their money over 20-24 years.
“They just need those guarantee and it will be done,” he told the Asagba and other traditional rulers that were present at the palace.
In another development, the Senator told the Asagba, Prof. Azinge, about the water project (Dam) in Ogwashi-Uku which he started as former member of the House of Representatives.
As one who understands the importance of water to his people, he said: “I felt that if we have a dam for household use, we can also extend it to irrigation for our farms.
“So that our farmers can farm all year round without having to wait for the rain. The federal government has done and built that dam, they have done their own part, there is nothing more for the federal government to do.
“Now, they have handed over to Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority to manage.
“That dam actually has three purposes; household use, irrigation and power generation where possible.
“I know that there is virtually water problem in all parts of Delta but this will serve up to Asaba, Ubulu-Uku, down to Issele-Uku, down to Umunede and about 66 communities. So, it is a very important water project”, he said.
Kenneth Orusi, is the Editor-in-chief of The Story and Chairman, ICC, Delta NUJ.
Senator Ned Nwoko, representing the Delta North senatorial district in the National Assembly, recently organized a capacity building workshop for youths of Anioma nation.
The event, which was part of his constituency project, also doubled as an empowerment programme for the participants.
In expression of his selflessness and readiness to serve, the Senator said he decided to bankroll the programme even before funds for the constituency project were released in fulfilment of his electioneering campaign promise to make life more meaningful to the people of Delta North, especially the youths.
He said he considered it expedient to build the capacity of Anioma youths because he believed that it was one sure way to equip them for the challenges of the times, noting that it was better to meaningfully engage the youths than allow them stray to the streets.
Senator Nwoko pointed out that the empowerment programme was the third since he assumed office in the Senate, promising to sustain the programme so that more of the youths could benefit to better their lives and be more relevant to the families and society.
The Star Prince said the quest for the creation of Anioma state, which has received legislative backing through a bill that had passed first reading at the Senate, was part of efforts to create opportunities for the people to benefit from the numerous gains the new state would present.
Senator Nwoko told the youths that the proposed state would have its own Executive, Legislative and Judicial arms, three Senators, nine House of Reps members, State Legislators, a Chief Judge and several opportunities for appointments to political and public service offices from which many of them would benefit.
He reiterated that he did not start the agitation for the creation of Anioma state, but expressed optimism that he would end it, revealing that he belonged to the Senate’s Constitution Review Committee which would consider the desirability or otherwise of creating new states in the country.
The Federal Lawmaker admonished beneficiaries of the capacity building/empowerment programme not to take the privilege for granted, disclosing that a Whatsapp group would be created to serve as a platform for the monitoring of the progress and challenges of the beneficiaries.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman, Association of Persons Living With Disabilities, Ika South chapter and Special Assistant to the Governor on PWDs affairs, Comrade Friday Ogor, thanked Senator Nwoko for his kind gesture and selfless service to the people of Delta North, especially the youths, since he assumed office.
Comrade Ogor commended Senator Nwoko for taking up the agitation for the creation of Anioma state from where the early visioners stopped and pledged the support of the youths for him in the struggle.
In a rare show of solidarity, the over 300 youths drawn from the 98 wards in the Delta North senatorial district, who took part in the programme, unanimously agreed to support Senator Nwoko in the state creation struggle.
The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) and Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) of Brazil, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance private sector development in fertiliser production, hybrid seed technology, and agricultural finance. The MoU was signed on behalf of the government by the Permanent Secretary of FMAFS, Mr Temitope Fashedemi, and the President of FGV, Professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, at FGV Headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. The agreement marks a new phase of strategic collaboration between Nigeria and FGV, the Green Imperative Project (GIP) lead implementer, one of the largest international agricultural technology transfer initiatives.
Conceived in 2018, GIP is a 1.2 billion dollar cooperative effort between Brazil and Nigeria, designed to modernise Nigeria’s agricultural sector through Brazilian expertise in tropical agriculture. Since the MoU was conceived in 2018, both parties have engaged in many meaningful discussions to advance its design and implementation.
The project, supported by Deutsche Bank, aims to deliver transformative agricultural technologies and knowledge transfer over its 10-year duration. Over the next five years, the project will identify and support one agribusiness in Nigeria’s 774 local government areas with technical and financial resources, driving sustainable development and economic growth. ‘This partnership paves the way for Brazil to engage with Nigeria’s dynamic and rapidly growing agricultural sector. Together with FGV, we are poised to unlock the potential of private sector investment in key areas critical to our food security,”
Fashedemi said at the signing ceremony. Under the MOU, private-sector projects on fertiliser production, hybrid seed technology and agricultural financing are projected to attract $4.3 billion in private-sector investment.
Senior members of Nigeria’s presidency, officials of FMAFS and FGV’s leadership attended the signing ceremony.

The Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty, King Monday Arthur Whiskey, Udurhie I, has called on President Bola Tinubu to confer a National Honour on High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, a.k.a Tompolo, Chairman of Tantita Security Services Limited.
The monarch made the call, on Sunday, while addressing newsmen at his palace in Idjerhe, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the monarch, Tompolo’s efforts have been instrumental in the attainment of 1.8 million barrel per day recently declared by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
“Tompolo needs commendation. In fact, he needs a National award,” the monarch stated. “Nothing stops the President from inviting him to Abuja and conferring on him a National award, because he has done what Napoleon could not do.”
“First and foremost, let me especially congratulate the staffs and management of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited led by his leader, High Chief (Dr.) Government Ekpemupolo for the battle against oil theft.
“From every available facts now, it is now very clear that only the section being handled by Tompolo and his Tantita group that are performing exceedingly well. So we can to say that Tompolo is not only protecting national installation, but that Tompolo has gone extra mile to take the highest risk that any Nigerian man will take.
“The situation today is that Tompolo is singlehandedly fighting the oil cabals, the oil cabal that were siphoning the country oil. And if we look at it very critically, there are three major things that Tompolo’s Tantita is achieving today.
“One, the firm is working very hard to increase oil and gas production output to the Nigerian government. Before this job was given to Tantita, Nigerian production was less than 1m barrel per day, and to bring on board extra 800,000 barrels on board, and still working hard to get it to 2 million barrel per day.
“There are serious agencies saddled with the responsibility of protecting this installations. What did they do? They rather conspired with the oil thieves, and they started doing it as business.
“Secondly, Tompolo is helping to restore our environment that has been criminally degraded from its natural state that today is supporting aquatic life and the growth of this environment, especially cleaner water.
“If you are used to this area before Tantita was given this job, you barely can see the water content, because everything is covered in black oil.
“But today, that the aquatic lives are returning to their natural habitat is as a result of the hard work of an individual. An individual took it upon himself. Other people were given the same job. What have they done?
“Thirdly, this Tantita Security Project is creating very serious employment opportunity to youths in the entire Niger Delta area and is exposing our youth to the deployment of high tech facilities, because they are not using manual technology.
“I want to seriously appeal to the federal government to increase and expand this project. Because if you look critically, it is only the areas where Tantita is working that you have this very noble achievement.
“So there is no reason why I should not advocate for the expansion of the project so that we can get more able bodied youth from the streets, they need to work. The federal government should, as a matter of urgency, begin to fund Tantita very regularly, because, you know, an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.
“Now that Tompolo has used his native sagacity to bring together most dreaded youths in the region to be part of this program, there is no reason why salaries should not be regular.
“Increase the workforce, regularize the workers’ salaries, the security contract has enhanced oil production and sustained environmental protection of the Niger Delta people, Tompolo deserve a national award for the feat he has achieved so far.
A gathering of more than 25 state Judiciaries and key stakeholders in the field convened in Ilorin at the weekend, pinpointing inadequate interagency collaboration within the nation’s judicial framework as the primary cause for the sluggish pace of justice administration in the country.
This was the highlight of the Network of Justice Reforms Teams (JTRTs) Conference organised by the EU-funded Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC II) Programme of International IDEA in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Justice (FMoJ).
The Conference noted that the deficiency of modern technologies has been recognized as a significant contributing factor to the substandard execution of justice in Nigerian courts and law enforcement procedures, as indicated by reports emerging from the conclusion of the Network of Justice Reforms Teams (JTRTs) retreat in Ilorin.
The JTRTs conference, spanning three days, united various criminal justice institutions to deliberate on justice sector reform, advocate for reform models, and establish new objectives for enhancing justice delivery in Nigeria.
Representatives from the Administration of Criminal Justice Monitoring Committees (ACJMCs) were also in attendance. Over time, RoLAC and the FmoJ have hosted JRTs with the principal objective of fostering coordination in justice delivery.
Advocates of the retreat assert that these network meetings provide platforms for exchanging experiences and knowledge-sharing, leading to a wide array of reforms, including the adoption of the Administration of Criminal Justice Laws by all 36 states in the federation.
Speaking at the end of the Conference on Thursday, Dr Oluwatoyin Badejogbin, Project Manager Component 1 – Criminal Justice Reform of the RoLAC II Programme, International IDEA, spoke on the need to speed up justice delivery and decongest the correctional facilities.
Badejogbin said: “It is evident that congestion in correctional facilities and delays in criminal case prosecutions, as well as civil justice proceedings, stem from the lack of coordination within the criminal justice system.
“When crucial agencies fail to communicate effectively with one another, critical aspects are overlooked. One agency expects the other to fulfil certain responsibilities, while the other anticipates reciprocal actions, resulting in a breakdown of processes.”
“For instance, when the police and the Department of Public Prosecution fail to synchronize their efforts, criminal case files may not be submitted, or they are not returned to the police with the essential legal guidance. Consequently, suspects languish in custody, with no clarity on the status of their cases, leading to prolonged detention in correctional facilities.
“However, when there is seamless cooperation between these agencies, such gaps are mitigated,” he elucidated.
The RoLAC II coordinator highlighted that the primary objective of the retreat was to identify existing gaps and address them effectively by the conclusion of the justice reform team session.
“We anticipate that critical actions will be formulated and implemented, particularly at the state level, following this justice reform team gathering,” he remarked.
Further elaborating on the retreat, Prof. Mohammed Tabiu, a facilitator with RoLAC II, emphasized the added advantage of inclusivity, as the retreat engaged not only stakeholders from the Judiciary but also various other entities in a coordinated manner.
“The emphasis on coordination, harmony, and collaboration rendered this retreat distinct.
“Throughout the three-day event, a diverse range of initiatives across states aimed at enhancing the administration of justice, particularly in criminal justice, were scrutinized.
“RoLAC has been striving to harmonize these developments among states, ensuring adequate support for optimal outcomes.
“The dissemination of lessons learned to other stakeholders will facilitate the widespread benefits of these endeavours across the country,” the professor said.
Earlier on Tuesday Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Federation, AFG, and the Kwara State governor, Mall. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq emphasized that essential reforms are integral to President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s strategic agenda.
Fagbemi articulated: “As you are cognizant, the reform of the justice sector occupies a central position in this administration’s strategic agenda.
“A key facet of our Renewed Hope Agenda is to drive judicial reforms to foster sustainable socio-economic growth and investment, underpinned by the rule of law, and to address the impediments hindering the dispensation of justice in our nation.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, Senator Ned Nwoko, has said that the Asaba/Oko-Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road project which transversed Oko communities in Oshimili south local government area of Delta state, has been covered in the 2025 budget.
Senator Nwoko who represents Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment, gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy visit on the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, in his palace, recently.
Also, chief of staff to the Senator, Dr. Michael Nwoko, in a recent report, told journalists in Abuja that the senator has proposed a new coastal road that will connect Asaba to Oko, Okpai, Aboh, and Patani.
The road project, according to him, once implemented, is expected to open new economic opportunities, ease travel, and mitigate flood risks in several Delta communities. This is about more than just a road, it’s a lifeline for economic development and flood resilience in the region.
The Oko road project has been a major challenge to the Delta state government over the years due to the peculiar topography of the area. The area lies on the bank of the River Niger.
On September 16, 2021, the state government under Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, announced that it had revoked the multi-million naira contract for the construction of Asaba/Oko-Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road awarded in 2018 over poor performance.
The revocation came with hope to the people that it would be contracted to another construction firm, yet, six years after it was awarded with another three years down the line after it was revoked, not only that the dream of the people of seeing ongoing construction was dashed, they were equally frustrated.
This was why there was misunderstanding during the 2023 electioneering campaigns when the PDP campaign team visited the community.
It was reported that it took the intervention of the current Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Nwoko, who was then the Senatorial candidate of PDP, to calm the nerves of the youths to allow the campaign team gain access into the community. During the campaign, Senator Nwoko assured them that the road would be attended to when he becomes the Senator.
This may have informed the decision of the compassionate billionaire senator whose passion for his people keeps him awake, to have attracted the Asaba/Oko-Amakom/Oko-Obiokpu/Oko-Anala Road Project into the 2025 federal budget.
Addressing the Asagba of Asaba Obi Prof. Azinge, other traditional rulers from the district and palace chiefs, Senator Nwoko said: “Some months ago, it is just over a year ago when we were campaigning, we went through Oko road.
“From Oko to Okpai. That road is terrible, it is probably the worst road in Nigeria, and I promised them that we will make it good, it will be built.
“And so, that road, is now in the budget. That is a coastal road because it leads from Asaba here, to Oko to Okpai, Aboh, Ase and all the way to Patani.
“It will actually link to other coastal roads that come through Lagos. It will make the journey easier to these areas”, Senator Nwoko added.
The inclusion of the Oko road into the 2025 federal budget is part of Senator Nwoko’s bold moves to ensure better life for his constituents. Over the years, residents of those communities have consistently suffered perennial flooding and displacement, making them become regular refugees in primary schools in Asaba.
The move to secure federal government attention to construct the road will be one of the biggest reliefs for the people of those communities along banks of the River Niger. Nwoko’s determination to transform lives of the Anioma people is a testament to his selfless disposition.
He has consistently explained that his emergence as Senator is not for personal aggrandizement but for the good of his people. Hence, he wants to ensure that he employs his influence, connections and contacts to make life beautiful for the Anioma people.

Senator Ned Nwoko’s proposal before the National Assembly mandating multinational social media platforms to establish physical offices in Nigeria has made headlines across global platforms.
The bill, sponsored by the Delta North Senator, has far-reaching implications for the country’s digital economy. This initiative, which targets platforms such as Meta (the parent body of Facebook and Instagram), TikTok, and Twitter (now X), seeks to leverage Nigeria’s position as a leading user of social media in Africa to create economic opportunities, foster regulatory efficiency, and boost national revenue.
One of the primary impacts of this proposal is its potential to increase Nigeria’s tax revenues. Nigeria is one of the largest digital markets in Africa, with its population of over 200 million people ranking first in the continent for social media usage. Despite this, social media companies operating in Nigeria often avoid paying significant taxes due to the lack of a local physical presence.
By establishing offices, these companies would be required to comply with Nigerian tax laws, generating much-needed revenue for the Nigeria government. This revenue could be reinvested in infrastructure, education, and technology sectors, further stimulating the digital economy.
Another significant benefit of the bill is its potential to create employment opportunities. Social media platforms typically employ a wide range of professionals, including engineers, content moderators, legal experts, and marketing specialists. The establishment of local offices would lead to the hiring of Nigerian professionals, thereby reducing unemployment rates and encouraging skill development. Additionally, partnerships with local tech startups and businesses could stimulate innovation and contribute to Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem.
Again, the absence of physical offices for these platforms in Nigeria complicates the resolution of legal and regulatory issues. For instance, user complaints, content moderation concerns, and disputes over data privacy often take longer to resolve due to geographical and regulatory gaps.
Senator Nwoko pointed out the 2021 suspension of Twitter as an example of how a lack of local representation could escalate disputes. Local offices would enable faster responses to such issues, fostering a more stable and predictable environment for digital businesses.
Also, the establishment of social media offices could empower local businesses and content creators. With a physical presence in Nigeria, platforms would be better positioned to understand and support the needs of Nigerian businesses and content creators. This could include developing region-specific features, offering training programs, and establishing partnerships that help local stakeholders monetize their digital presence. Such initiatives would enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian businesses in the global digital economy.
In the same vein, a physical presence of multinational social media companies in Nigeria could signal to other foreign investors that the country is a viable and supportive market for digital enterprises. This could attract further investment into Nigeria’s tech sector, which has already seen significant growth in recent years. Increased investment would accelerate technological advancement, infrastructure development, and innovation, all of which are critical for the digital economy.
To this end, Senator Nwoko has called on relevant government bodies, including the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), to enforce existing mandates requiring online platforms to establish offices in Nigeria. He also advocates for incentives to attract these companies and legislative measures to ensure compliance.
Senator Nwoko’s proposal, though bold and ambitious, aligns with the broader goals of strengthening Nigeria’s digital economy and fostering a more structured relationship between multinational corporations and the Nigerian government. However, its success will depend on effective enforcement mechanisms and collaboration between government agencies and the platforms.
The proposal is a step towards aligning Nigeria’s digital economy with its status as Africa’s largest social media market. By establishing physical offices, multinational social media platforms could contribute significantly to revenue generation, job creation, regulatory efficiency, and the growth of local businesses. However, the success of this initiative will depend on effective collaboration between the government and these companies, as well as a commitment to creating a favorable business environment. If implemented successfully, this policy could position Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation, unlocking its full economic potential in the global tech landscape.

Security stakeholders have suggested unbiased and balance reportage as part of solutions to the insecurity ravaging the country.
The stakeholders spoke on Wednesday November 20, 2024, the 5th Annual Lecture Series of DOPF, held in Asaba, the Delta State Capital attended by the state governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and representatives of various security agencies and other sectors of the nation.
The lecture series with the theme, “Security Challenges: Finding A Local Implementable Solution”, was organized by Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF).
Speaking at the event, the Force Police Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, urged media practitioners to avoid involving in cybercrimes ranging from romance scam, Yahoo or Yahoo plus, fraud, cyber prostitution and other offences like fake news, disinformation, misinformation among others.
According to him, “it is a big problem that the Nigerian government is trying to battle”, quoting the media manager of President Ahmed Tinubu, to have said the president has ordered security agencies to clampdown on Yahoo boys.
“It is a big problem that most of our young ones who are ICT guru, they use their knowledge in a wrong way and that is why you see all these people when security agencies arrest them, they compromise.
“Arrest them, they collect money and they allow them to go. They compromise, that person you think you want to help, collect from because they are making post so that they don’t go to court, it is still the same people that will expose you, they will do video.
“We have some agents online that you think they are just Nigerians but they are doing their businesses. They help them to recover their money and they get their percentage. They are only silent about it, it is only the police or other Agencies that they say are corrupt.
“The so-called activist that comes online that they have recovered money and says police are corrupt, the person too, is corrupt because he is getting percentage of the money recovered from the police.
He charged Journalists to ensure they confirm their reports by way if putting calls across to all parties involved in a matter, rather than being used as a “paid journalist”, or making monetary demands, “the moment you have a story you want to publish and you have reached out to the person or your target and you are demanding for money, you are not doing journalism against.
“That is why most of the online publishers that we often arrest, we stumble on so many contents. We have to profile them, we have the machines.
“If you know you have your facts, call him for comments. If he doesn’t want to comment, a no comment is a comment, publish and go ahead. Why must you demand for money? He queried.
He disclosed that the action is contrary to prohibition Act of 2024, as amended, just as he called for a collective collaboration from all and sundry in the policing of any society, stressing that it that was done, the concept of policing won’t be gotten alright.

The Senate has passed the first reading of a bill sponsored by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko (Delta North) seeking to mandate social media platforms, data controllers, and data processors operating in Nigeria to establish physical offices within the country.
The Bill titled “A Bill for an Act to Alter the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, LFN, to Mandate the Establishment of Physical Offices Within the Territorial Boundaries of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by Social Media Platforms, and for Related Matters,” scaled its first legislative hurdle today, November 21, 2024.
The Bill proposes an addition to Section 5 of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, inserting a new Article P, which empowers the Data Protection Commission to require social media platforms and other data processors to establish physical offices in Nigeria. It further stipulates that failure to comply would result in the prohibition of such entities from operating in the country. The Bill also seeks to alter Section 65 by introducing new definitions, including “Data Controllers,” “Data Processors,” and “Operators of Social Media Platforms,” among others, to provide clarity and ensure compliance with the law.
According to the explanatory memorandum, the bill addresses critical issues stemming from the absence of local offices for social media platforms. These include the lack of local representation, delays in resolving user complaints, and the challenges regulators face in enforcing Nigerian laws. It also pointed out the economic benefits of the proposed amendment, including job creation, improved content moderation, faster resolution of disputes, and enhanced trust between stakeholders and platform operators.
Senator Ned Nwoko stressed the urgency of “ensuring that social media platforms operating within Nigeria adhere to global best practices while respecting local laws and cultural sensitivities”.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has said that his administration is committed to addressing issues of security in the state.
Governor Oborevwori made the remark while delivering address during the annual lecture of the Delta Online Publishers Forum DOPF held in Asaba on Wednesday
In the event which was chaired by renowned public relations expert, Emma Ogidi, the governor said his administration is defining, devising, and instituting local implementable solutions to address issues of security in Delta state.
In the address read by commissioner for information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, the governor said he is deploying all necessary resources, energies, collaborations, partnerships, stakeholders engagement towards ensuring that Delta state remains peaceful and secured for all residents and investors.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs Ibifuro Thompson Tatua, on Tuesday described Governor Monday Okpebholo as an indefatigable man with a heart for the people.
‘’I can attest to the general belief that Governor Monday Okpebholo is a listening governor, a quality that is rare in modern day leadership’’.
She also described him as ‘’ a firm believer in the Edo dream’’
‘’Governor Monday Okpebholo will face the business of governance squarely, rekindle the specific interests of the business community in Nigeria and the general interests of international community in the development of the state’’
The ruling party stalwart in a statement in Benin City labelled the emergence of Okpebholo ‘’ an act of God’’.
‘’Monday Okpebholo’s inauguration as the Executive Governor of Edo State has brought a big smile to the faces of all well-meaning citizens of Edo State and beyond’’
She said APC worked hard to secure victory in Edo State.
‘’Edolites spoke clearly this last election, and they expect Governor Okpebholo to get things done. The former governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, are suffering from hallucination’’
Tatua who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Boss Africa Magazine praised Edo people for voting APC in the last governorship election.
‘’Senator Monday Okpebholo’s mission as governor is simple: make Edo State the best state in the country. He will be adjudged as the best governor in the history of Edo State at the end of his first tenure. They will certainly appeal to him to continue’’
The statement listed selflessness, integrity and concern for the public good as key qualities of the governor.
‘’Edo State will experience tremendous progress. Governor Monday Okpebholo will restore investors’ confidence with transparent economic policies, ensure that security and prosperity return to Edo State’’
Ending the statement, Tatua said: ‘’ I warmly congratulate Governor Monday Okpebholo on his historic inauguration. I pray to God to protect and grant him sound health and divine wisdom to handle the affairs of Edo State’’
Coalition of Civil Societies Organisations and several agricultural experts including farmers have proposed a bill for an Act for the prohibition of Genetically Modified Organism (GMOs) in Nigeria, insisting that it is to guide against degeneration of health and wellbeing of Nigerians
The experts who took turns to speak at a press conference on investigative research and public hearing on GMOs.held on Wednesday in Abuja, said the proliferation of GMOs in the country is worrisome and should be outlawed in the country.
The Programme Manager of Health of the Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF) Joyce Brown lamented that the Nigeria Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) is yet to conduct any clinical trials on the GMOs being brought into the country, claiming that what is seen on their website is the applications for bringing in GMOs into the country with no assessments report to actually certify that the GMOs are safe.
She said the country does not need GMOs to solve it’s food insecurity, insisting that food insecurity is caused by poverty, insecurity, inequality among others, noting that instead of resorting to GMOs, the country should rather addressed the problems.
She however advised that looking at the country’s agricultural landscape, a sustainable approach such as agroecology should be adopted to boost food production and not GMOs
On his part, a renowned teacher and agricultural consultant, Prof Johnson Ekpere said that the previous government ratified GMO without understanding the basic precepts that guide GMO which is the Cartegena Protocol on Biosafety
He stressed that the government must ensure that the basic tenets that guide this protocol is understood by those implementing the law for successful adoption and integration.
He also called on the government to set up a biosafety research facility that will help them understand what they are doing and take drastic risk assessment of our biotechnology
The Deputy Director of Center for Food Safety and Agricultural Research, Prof. Qrisstuberg Amua stated that NBMA should be a biosafety regulatory agency not a management agency, insisting that the misapplication of their names has translated them into a promoter of foreign technology that are at the detriment of Nigerians
He however warned that that the unregulated biosafety research can exercebate biosafety challenges which is what is currently manifesting in Nigeria as the chemical pesticides used are known disruptors of echo systems.
Another expert, Dr Segun Adebayo called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Federal Completion and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to rise up their duty by controlling what is being brought into the country saying Nigerians are eating poison.
A farmer Mrs Ejim Nnena insisted that farmers say No to GMO as the adoption of the technology means poverty, serious nutrition crisis among others.
She maintained that if they are given GMO seeds and cannot replant it, it is poverty in disguise adding that if they have to spray chemicals to enable the seed germinate properly that means farmers are being pushed out of the field into slavery..
She said what farmers are asking for is adequate security on the farms, extension workers to guide the, mapped out areas for farm activities, provide seed banks

In a 2022 BBC interview, Nwoko described Obi as “frugal but a major player in the global economy,” adding that Obi would excel as Minister of the Economy under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Senator Nwoko’s humanitarian efforts shine through his campaign to eradicate malaria in Africa. In 2020, he became the first black African to visit Antarctica, launching his malaria eradication project under the Ned Nwoko Foundation. His approach focuses on vaccine development, integrated vector management, and advocacy. He sponsored the Malaria Eradication and Waste Management Bill to address the disease’s root causes.
According to him; “Research has revealed that malaria and mosquitoes are not natural to us; they can be eradicated. The first step is tackling mosquitoes, which thrive in dirty environments,”.
Senator Nwoko is also the founder of Africa’s first sports university, located in his hometown, Idumuje-Ugboko. Approved by the federal government, the university commenced academic activities in September 2022. Addressing misconceptions about sports hindering academics, he clarified: “The university is designed to advance learning in specialised areas of sports development, including management and professional coaching.”
In May 2022, Nwoko secured the PDP ticket to represent Delta North Senatorial District in the 2023 elections. Winning by a landslide, he garnered 242 votes against his closest opponent’s 67. As a senator, his portfolio includes 16 strategic committees, a testament to his competence and dedication. These include roles in Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Finance, Environment, and more.
A global perspective with local impact on the global stage, Senator Nwoko advocates for diaspora voting rights and reparations for transatlantic slavery. Locally, he focuses on environmental sustainability, education, health, and infrastructure for his Anioma people. His commitment to non-military solutions to conflicts and his Anioma agenda demonstrate his vision for a unified and progressive Nigeria.
Described as “Odogwu,” or a great leader, Senator Nwoko embodies excellence in every endeavour. From his legislative achievements to his philanthropic initiatives, he remains a beacon of hope and progress. Unlike the fictional James Bond, Nwoko’s story is a testament to resilience, purpose, and humanity.
Optimism and a firm resolve marked Senator Ned Nwoko’s recent visit to the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Professor Epiphany Azinge as he expressed confidence in the creation of Anioma State. Senator Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, underscores his unwavering commitment to the cause during the courtesy visit to the monarch’s palace in Asaba, just a month after the Asagba’s coronation.
The senator, who has been at the forefront of the Anioma agitation with a bill advocating its creation, revealed that the federal government and relevant authorities were receptive to the proposal. He described Anioma State as the most pressing need for Delta North people, stressing their unity across political and social divides.
Senator Nwoko sought the Asagba’s support, emphasising that his high level of education, international exposure, and Asaba’s historical pre-eminence positioned him to lead Delta’s traditional institutions effectively.
“Anioma State is important to me and will be realised through concerted efforts,” Senator Nwoko assured. “I am also committed to building lasting infrastructure and empowering our people. Projects like the Ogwashi-Uku Dam and the Okpai Power Plant remain dear to me. The dam will enhance irrigation for agriculture and supply water to over 66 Anioma communities. The power plant’s benefits are immeasurable. Additionally, I am focused on constructing the Oko Road to link several communities.”
In response, the Asagba of Asaba commended Senator Nwoko’s strategic efforts for the betterment of Anioma, Delta State, and Nigeria. He lauded the senator’s work on transforming the Federal College of Education in Asaba into a university, describing it as a crucial step towards addressing Asaba’s lack of a federal university.
“We are proud of your achievements and your dedication to the Anioma project. Your efforts align with the wishes of my predecessor, who envisioned a federal university in Asaba as a symbolic reparation for the massacre of Asaba people during the Nigerian Civil War,” the monarch said. “We support you wholeheartedly and are confident in your ability to deliver.”
Arising from his hospitable spirit, his residence in Idumuje-Ugboko has become a hub for solidarity visits. Only recently, he hosted prominent dignitaries, including Dr. Isitor Julius, King of Ottah-Igbanke, and Evans Anthony, King of Obazagbon Community. Both monarchs pledged their communities’ support for Anioma State, highlighting its significance as a unifying aspiration.
Dr. Julius remarked, “Anioma State is a movement backed by divine support. We stand solidly behind you in this noble pursuit. Our forefathers may have lacked knowledge, but we now understand the importance of freedom and unity.”
Similarly, King Anthony assured the senator of unwavering backing from traditional rulers in his community. The Ugo Anioma group, a socio-cultural movement advocating for Anioma State, also visited the senator. They reaffirmed their commitment and discussed the legislative progress of the state creation initiative.
Since assuming office in June 2023, Senator Nwoko has demonstrated a unique approach to representation, blending strategic action with a deep understanding of his constituents’ needs. His efforts have resonated with many Anioma people, who describe his leadership as purposeful and transformative.
In the Senate, Senator Nwoko has been vocal, championing causes that benefit both his constituency and the nation. Notably, he was among the senators who donated their December salaries totalling ₦109 million to victims of the accidental bombing in Kaduna State. His intervention also secured the release of the Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom’s monarch, HRM Clement Ikolo, from military detention.
Closer to home, Senator Nwoko played a pivotal role in resolving the boundary dispute between Ugboba and neighbouring communities over coal mining activities. He facilitated peace without bloodshed, further solidifying his reputation as a unifying figure.
Reflecting on his inclusive philosophy, Senator Nwoko remarked, “I don’t believe in religion or colour. Whether you’re Muslim or Christian, I’m committed to helping all classes of people.”
As Senator Nwoko continues to garner widespread support, his work exemplifies the power of strategic leadership and a genuine commitment to community development. With his vision and dedication, the realisation of Anioma State and other transformative projects appears ever closer.
What manner of progressive achiever is this man? What is he looking for? While undertones are routinely imputed to whatever a politician does in our clime, Senator Nwoko’s political, social and humanitarian disposition transcends political hemisphere. What can be gleaned from the humanistic gesture is the keenness of an individual to do good with the objective to improve the socio-economic welfare of citizens in the present-day Nigeria.
His benevolence as senator reflects a deep passion driven by altruism. What differentiates him is the way he exemplifies the application of philosophy towards socio-economic relief and that of improvement in driving the mission of sustainable development. His political mission in public service is a measure of compassion, and his quest to ameliorate human suffering and commitment to helping the society to maximize its potential make the difference.

Delta state commissioner for information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, has called on media practitioners to engage in objective and critical assessment of government policies and programs as opposed to criticisms laced with propaganda and misleading half-truths.
Dr. Osuoza made the call on Tuesday during the media training session organised by members of Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) at the conference room of the state ministry of information.
Represented by permanent secretary of the ministry, Mrs Aliko, Dr. Osuoza said members of the forum should give a chance to ministry officials to make input to reports that have bearing to the state government and its policies.
The commissioner who appreciated members of the forum for informing Deltans and the global community on the activities of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, also commended the forum for showing willingness to publicise activities and programs of the Oborevwori’s government.
He told the online publishers that the government of Sheriff Oborevwori will always appreciate good journalism in accordance with best global practices, rather than cut-and-paste journalism that employ the services of artificial intelligence which encourages unethical misdemeanors.
Dr. Osuoza said the training session with the theme: “SEO, AI and Security in Online News Publishing: A Swiss Knife for Online Publishers,” is germane, given the emerging trend and sophistication in the online journalism business.
The information commissioner said that the engagement and application of Search Engine Optimisations (SEO) and AI platforms has become a crucial skill for ensuring that contents are packaged to give clarity and fluidity.
Amidst the benefits derivable from online journalism, the commissioner expressed sadness over the growth of libelous and deliberately misleading information as well as the contractual engagement of online practitioners to persecute and blackmail personalities.
He said “the evil in this unwholesome and nefarious type of journalism is that some online publishers, for reasons best known to them, are putting pressure on their readers by manipulating narratives to convince them to believe allegations as convictions, against those that these allegations are made against.
“The best ethical journalism practice forbids and opposes this and it is up to the professional journalists in the online publishing community to continue to serve as conventional watchdogs of society and protect the bastion of sound and responsible journalism that the founding fathers of the trade professed and left behind as a legacy by ensuring objectivity and factual reportage.”
The commissioner called on leadership of DOPF to “evolve ways of sanctioning members who are engaged in pedestrian, unprofessional practice, outright propaganda, and yellow journalism.”
The session featured special training on the application of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and the use of artificial intelligence tools to boost clarity of language and enhance visibility on the global online space.
The training session was handled by Dr. Monday Ashibogwu, a renowned publisher of Quick News Africa, based in Lagos Nigeria.
Oporoza: Nigerian Navy has been accused of undermining concerted efforts of the Federal Government to combat crude oil theft in the country.
Speaking in Oporoza, headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom of Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State while playing host to the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) led by Mazi Afam Josiah Osigwe(SAN), it’s national President, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo said that some elements in the Navy are working against the order of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to increase crude oil production.
High Chief Ekpemupolo, Chairman, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) disclosed that this action of the Navy is a major hindrance to protecting Nigeria ‘s oil pipelines, adding that the confrontation between Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and the Navy has complicated their operations.
He disclosed that some Naval personnel, few days ago, forcefully attacked some operatives of Tantita while they (Tantita security men) were busy effecting arrest of some suspected oil thieves along the Port-Harcourt creeks in Rivers State.
The Chairman of Tantita, while calling for more synergy between the Navy and other security outfits, expressed concern that efforts to checkmate crude oil theft are being sabotaged in some quarters by the Navy.
He lamented that despite recent achievements, such as increasing Nigeria’s oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd), security challenges persist, adding, “just a few days ago, our team intercepted a vessel in the Creeks of Port Harcourt, and the Navy opened fire on Tantita Security personnel while we were accompanied by the Police, Department of Security Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)”.
“While doing this work, we have stepped on a lot of toes. Most times, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited faces confrontations with the Navy. If we arrest anyone today, lawyers from Abuja, Lagos, or Ibadan are quickly engaged to defend them.”
Tompolo appealed to the NBA for support in holding offenders accountable, adding, “If we are not careful, this country may not have the resources to sustain itself. A bag of rice now costs over ₦100,000. We are doing our part locally, but we need help from the top to bring about justice.”
In his speech, NBA President, Mazi Osigwe commended Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited for its efforts in securing Nigeria’s oil pipelines and called for stronger partnerships to combat oil theft.
According to Mazi Osigwe, “this visit has given us first hand knowledge of the challenges faced here and the significant impact Tantita is making in protecting the national economy.”
The NBA pledged to intensify its advocacy against oil theft, citing the resolution passed at its recent National Executive Council meeting, he noted that oil theft has negatively impacted Nigeria’s foreign reserves and hampered the government’s ability to deliver democratic dividends to the populace.
Mazi Osigwe (SAN) spoke further, “we understand the importance of increasing oil production for our national economy. With production now climbing above 1.8 mbpd for the first time in years, there is hope of reaching 2 mbpd by December. This will reduce borrowing and improve infrastructure development.”
Earlier, during a courtesy call on him in his palace in Oporoza,by the NBA National Executive Council (NEC), HRM Oboro-Gbaraun 11 Aketekpe, Agadagba, Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom expressed delight over the recent announcement from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) that oil production has risen to 1.8million barrels per day with a promise to increase it up to 2million bpd by the end of this year.
The reverted Monarch said that Gbaramatu Kingdom is peaceful, adding, “we stand for peace, we stand to extend hands of fellowship, we work for the peace of Niger Delta, and this is how we find ourselves. The presence of government is far from us. All these you are seeing are the efforts of our elites and our well to do children. We are calling on government to come to us with infrastructural developments. We produce the oil from our territory we feed the coffers of this country. So they should draw closer to us, do the needful for us.

Senator Ned Nwoko hss said he is passionate about doing the things the average normal person will not want to do
The Senator, during an interactive session with Journalists at his Mount Ned country home, Idumuje-Ugboko, in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, added that he was not the kind of politician that would sacrifice the interest of his people for self aggrandizement.
He said he single-handedly engaged some developed countries of the word in a legal battle for the Paris Club refund, a fight he roundly won and substantial funds illegally deducted from Nigeria on account of foreign kian repayments were refunded.
Senator Nwoko said he was highly fulfilled by the legal victory because the funds that were refunded helped the states of the federation to impact more on the lives of the people
In another rare feat, the Distinguished Senator told newsmen how he picked interest in becoming an explorer, which took him to the most difficult part of the world, Sao Paulo, Antarctica, with a land area of 14 million square kilometers and no permanent residents.
According to him, there was a stop over at Cape Town, South Africa, in the course of the journey, where the 17 explorers, among whom he was the oldest, engaged in physical fitness exercises and were taking through health talks by medical doctors to be able to cope with the rigours of the adventure.
Senator Nwoko said when he nursed the idea of establishing a University, he decided that it should be something beyond the ordinary and went for a Sports University, the first of its kind in Nigeria.
He pointed out that when the issue of approving the University came up, the National Universities Commission (NUC) was at a loss because there was no template for deciding the eligibility of the institution for the approval sought.
The Star Prince explained that he had to sponsor officials of the NUC to visit countries where similar institutions had been established before the Sports University, Idumuje-Ugboko, currently with second year students in session, was approved.
On politics, Ned Nwoko said he was elected by the people of Delta North to serve and would not sacrifice their interests on the alter of concerns for his personal life or re-election considerations.
He said, “I have been elected to serve as Senator for Anioma people and I am not going to sacrifice the interests of Nigerians and Anioma people on the alter of concerns for my life, a re-election or anything else
“If you consider my education, exposure and experiences abroad, you will appreciate that I am not like the normal politician. Infact I hate to be called a politician..
“That is why today I can talk about Anioma state without fear or favour because I know that I am doing what is right I know I am carrying on from where our forefathers stopped and I know that Anioma state is good for Deltans
“When Anioma is created, it will bring one more state to the present Delta; we will have two Governor’s, two Deputy Governors, six Senators, more House of Reps members, more Local Government Chairmen and Councillors, many political appointments, many job opportunities and government will be closer to the people”.
In a bid to reassure the public of adequate security and protection in the Saturday Ondo Governorship Election; the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Ahmed Audi has reiterated the Corps’ commitment to ensuring a free, fair and credible election in Ondo State,
Audi demonstrated this readiness while speaking through the Deputy Commandant General Operations, DCG Philip Ayuba, who attended a strategic meeting with the Deputy Inspector General, Force Criminal Investigation Department (Force-CID) who also doubles as DIG Election Security, DIG Sylvester Alabi.
Ayuba said the CG has given a direct order that all officers must be apolitical and neutral, and as such, the fundamental human rights of the citizens must be protected, and there should be no occasion for comprise amongst security operatives or disenfranchisement of eligible voters.
He noted that the mandate of NSCDC in Safeguarding all Critical National Assets and Infrastructure covers all election materials, which he said have been rated very critical because any act of vandalism or destruction through election violence would, of course, hamper the smooth process and peaceful conduct of the elections.
The NSCDC Boss hinted that over 6225 operatives were drafted from 10 neighbouring States, FCT and the Corps’ National Headquarters, noting that both overt and covert operational personnel are already on the ground for election duty.
The Corps’ Helmsman said there is an existing synergy between the Nigeria Police, the NSCDC and other security agencies; therefore all security agencies have been effectively briefed on the need to work in collaboration and guard against violence, destruction of public utilities, ballot box snatching, rigging, vote buying, thuggery and other associated crimes.
He further said there is no cause for alarm; hence, the public is enjoined to come out and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or any form of apprehension.
Delta North Senator and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, welcomed Her Excellency, Ambassador Rosalyn Hazelle of St. Kitts and Nevis, to a private meeting in his Abuja office at the National Assembly, on Thursday.

Senator Nwoko, known for his passionate advocacy for justice and equity for Africa, maintained his stance on reparations, calling it “long overdue and non-negotiable.”
Speaking during the meeting, Senator Nwoko reiterated his belief that Africa deserves a tangible apology backed by action from nations that profited from the transatlantic slave trade.
Ambassador Hazelle, a seasoned diplomat and former CEO of the St. Kitts Investment Promotion Agency, expressed her full support for Senator Nwoko’s position, describing reparations as a shared struggle. She expressed that St. Kitts and Nevis shares similar sentiments, having been a beneficiary of such global discussions.
The meeting also delved into economic opportunities between Nigeria and the Caribbean. Senator Nwoko emphasized the potential for partnerships in areas such as tourism, agriculture, and renewable energy, noting that such collaboration could create wealth and opportunities on both sides.
The reparations agenda, however, remained the central theme of the discussion, with both leaders agreeing that African nations and their diaspora counterparts must present a united front. Senator Nwoko commended the Caribbean countries for their proactive stance on reparations and called for stronger synergy.
*We remain committed to attainment of over 2million bpd – Tantita
Ecomiums have been pouring in for Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and a private security outfit, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL) as the nation’s crude oil production hit 1.8 millions barrels per day (1.8m bpd)
The board and management of NNPCL, which announced the feat on Thursday, also disclosed that gas production has also risen to 7.4 billion standard cubic feet per day (7.4bscfd).
Stakeholders have hailed NNPCL and private security agencies hired to safeguard the nation’s economic assets, especially Tantita, for achieving the feat.
Tantita has lately led a relentless war against crude oil theft and pipelines’ vandalism, pursing oil thieves out of the nation’s coastal environment as well as seizing and confiscating their equipment of illicit trade.
It was gathered that most of the oil thieves abandoned the nefarious business in the wake of the onslaught and ceaseless heat by the operatives of Tantita security services positioned in the coastal axis of the Niger Delta.
These collaborative efforts with other state actors significantly contributed to the latest rise in the quantum of production of crude and gas resources.
It was gathered that Tantita has initiated clampdown measures to keep the oil thieves at bay with a view to realising 2million bpd of crude oil production by the end of December, in conjuction with other industry stakeholders.
NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO), who announced this at a press briefing on Thursday, said the feat was achieved in compliance with the mandate of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Kyari congratulated the Production War Room Team that anchored the production recovery process.
“The team has done a great job in driving this project of not just production recovery but also escalating production to expected levels that are in the short and long terms acceptable to our shareholders based on the mandates that we have from the President, the Honourable Minister, and the Board,” Kyari stated.
Giving details of the efforts of the Production War Room, the Chief War Room Coordinator and Senior Business Adviser to the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mr Lawal Musa, said the feat was achieved through the collaborative efforts of Joint Venture and Production Sharing Contract partners, the Office of the National Security Adviser, as well as government and private security agencies.
He said the interventions that led to the recovery of production cut across every segment of the production chain, with security agencies closely monitoring the pipelines.
He stressed that when the Production War Room team was inaugurated on the 25th of June 2024, production was at 1.430 mbpd, but the team swung into action, culminating in it sustaining the production recovery to 1.7 mbpd in August and hitting the current 1.808 mbpd in November.
“We are confident that with this same momentum and with the active collaboration of all stakeholders, especially on the security front, we can see the possibility of getting to 2MBPD by the end of the year,” he added.
It will be recalled that the Chairman of TSSNL, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo, while speaking during an award bestowed on him by the national leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), promised to ensure that the daily crude oil production output continued to increase and boost the nation’s revenue.
“The only place I have to call my country is Nigeria, so I will do everything within my powers to see that crude oil production increases.”
Reacting to the latest feat yesterday, Tompolo, said he was excited to be part of the success story.
Tompolo, who spoke through his Special Adviser Media and Public Communication, Mr. Paul Bebenimibo, said Tantita was committed to the realisation of 2mbp by December as directed by President Tinubu.
Tompolo said, “This milestone, as you know, was achieved in collaboration with NNPCL, security forces and of course, Tantita, which has been at the forefront of oil pipelines protection in the Niger Delta . We are determined to take it to 2mbpd before the year runs out as directed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
“All the needed machinery has been put in place to ensure that the target is achieved. No effort will be spared to ensure that the economy of Nigeria is galvanised.” “This will lead to a boost in government’s revenue, thereby making more funds available for the President and his team to run the country effectively. I am assuring you that we are not going to rest on our oars until the target is achieved and even exceeded.”
“New technologies were being deployed to monitor the facilities with a view to ensuring that there won’t be any disruption and that the theft of Nigeria’s commonwealth is halted.”
“So the 1.8mbpd that it has got to, certainly by the end of the year, by God’s grace, we will work to get it to 2mbpd and even exceed. We are working towards that,” Tompolo assured through Bebenimibo.
…as court orders release of $1.2 million to Senator Ned Nwoko
A recent high-profile ruling has shown the British justice system’s effectiveness, as the City of London Magistrates’ Court ordered the release of $1,199,965 to Nigerian Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, that was frozen in an account belonging to Mr. Keith Davies.
The money, originally transferred by Ned Nwoko to a middleman named Abubakar, was subsequently transferred to Davies, who held himself out as a broker. However, the funds were frozen by authorities pending the resolution of the ownership dispute.
Following the court proceedings, the judge ruled that the funds should be returned to Ned Nwoko, acknowledging him as the rightful owner. HSBC has been ordered to release the money to Nwoko’s legal representatives within seven days.
One hand feeds with palliatives, swift and small, A quick balm tossed like crumbs that fall. A bit of rice, a fleeting gift, Given to keep but never to lift. Take this, stay steady, until the next round. But bound in its comfort, you’re still tightly bound.
For palliatives soothe, but they rarely heal, A quiet sedative that numbs what’s real. They offer relief, not a lasting way, A cycle repeated day after day. Dependence grows in each gift received, In promises wrapped, but true dreams deceived.
But a true safety net holds a dignity rare, A support that respects the power we bear. Not given to bind, but to help us stand, A steady bridge, a guiding hand. It says: “Here’s a foothold, here’s your chance, Build on this foundation, take your stance.”
With nets, we’re anchored but never restrained, Free to pursue what life has ordained. From fair wages to healthcare, the safety grows , A path that strengthens as we go. Not just survival, but room to choose, A chance to create, a chance to use.
For true liberation flows from choice, From a safety that strengthens each person’s voice. Palliatives pacify, but nets uplift, A hand-up to open our gifts. One keeps us dependent, content, yet small , The other a chance to rise, to stand tall.
So let’s choose the dignity of support that frees, Not comfort that binds, nor bread that appeases. For true liberation lies in a safety net, wide and grand, That offers strength, a foundation to expand.
The battle to free the good land (Anioma) from undue slavery, deprivation, marginalization and possibly extricating the “blessed people” from mismanaged resources, is currently underway in Delta North Senatorial District. Since Senator Ned Munir Nwoko took the gauntlets of good governance to his people, it has become a “taboo” to reignite the consciousness of people with a common destiny.
What’s certain about these people occupying the upper land of Delta state could be, that they seem to now understand the need to rekindle their self determined future, sustained development and a unified cultural heritage.
Before now, the multiples of legislators who had privileged position to represent Anioma people, had allowed their moments of glory dashed out from their hands, just because they want to stay in the good books of their sponsors, who momentarily reigned power control on the entire state.
What seems a major concern to those who want to remain relevant in the corridor of power, is the threat the Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko poses if he succeeds the accomplishment of Anioma state creation, power will be transited away and that would end their sustained selfish pact with the people’s detractors.
What is bad about good governance brought forth to Anioma people by Senator Nwoko ?
The Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko, a privileged member of the “elite” 1999 constitution amendment committee, who is currently in Kano state along with his committee colleagues for a retreat, had stunned his party men and women on the unequalled ability of the distinguished Senator Nwoko’s energy put on ensuring that good governance is brought to his people, the entire state and by extension, to Nigerians.
In just a year of representation at the upper legislative chamber of National Assembly, Prince Of The Good Land has been able to sponsor and present high-net worth, people oriented bills. Some of the bills include but not limited to:
i) SB 127; Waste Management & Malaria Eradication Agency (Establishment) Bill 2023.- Presented By Sen. Ned Nwoko On 28th November 2023.
i) SB 249: Constitution Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria 1999 (Alteration) Bill 2023 – Presented By Sen. Ned Nwoko On 14th November 2023.
iii) SB 346: Fire Arms Act (Amendment) Bill 2024 – Presented By Sen. Ned Nwoko On 20th February 2024.
The most astonishing of all “the bills for act” sponsored so far by the workaholic Senator, is the bill introduced on the floor of the Senate, seeking the creation of Anioma State from the current Delta state.
The bill having passed its first reading, tagged therein and quoted as, “SB 346 – Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (Alteration) (A bill For An Act Proposing the Creation of Anioma State) Creation Of Anioma State Bill, 2023” the content therein is proposing the creation of Anioma state from the current Delta State, has passed its first reading at the Upper Chamber, as sponsored by Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko.
This bill seeks to amend three sections of the 1999 Constitution to replace the word “36” with “37” to accommodate the new state and add “Anioma” immediately after “Delta” to the list of states.
The proposed Anioma State would comprise the nine (9) local government areas namely, Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ika North-East, Ika South, Ndokwa East, Ndokwa West, Oshimili North, Oshimili South, and Ukwuani, with Asaba designated as the state capital.
The Distinguished Senator Nwoko did not just present the bill, but also assiduously sustained tempo on the requisite processes toward the actualization of Anioma State Creation, irking those that would continue to have the district remain with the “status quo antes”
In their wildest dreams the bill that got detractors rattled, has unexpectedly attracted more Ndi-Anioma’s love toward the good intentions of their princely “jewel” son, who has continued impressive moves to bring good governance to the people of the northern district.
Many more successful oversight functions already made in the early stage of his legislative term, unarguably exposed the underperformance of former legislators, who at one time held the enormous opportunity to properly represent the people of the Good Land.
It has dawned on those who benefited from vices committed against Delta North’s entire existence, on a false realization that Senator Nwoko now poses serious threat to their continued stranglehold on Anioma people.
The current smearing of the senator’s personality is an attempt to re-strategize for control of the Delta North political soul, despite unhealthy treatment of the Senator Ned Nwoko and his supporters.
Whose ox is gored ? If Anioma State Creation Is Not Accomplished?
Tension is mounting in the political landscape as the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi SAN, has warned that local government elections conducted without six months’ notice will face nullification.
Olasunkanmi stated this at the 12th convocation of Afe Babalola University in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
According to him, any State Governor who fails to give six months’ notice before conducting local government elections will face nullification in courts.
This comes after the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) conducted local government polls in the State on September 28, with only one month’s notice to political parties and candidates.
Frowning at such development, the AGF said “Any state Governor who fails to give six months’ notice before conducting local government elections will face nullification in courts.”
Lately, State Governors across the country are reportedly engaging in late minute rushes to conduct local elections without recourse to the law setting up election matters just to meet up with the alleged three-month moratorium
While some States gave up to four months’ notice before the council polls, a good number of Governors gave between three weeks and one month’s notice to the election, while some State Houses of Assembly amended the local government laws to suit their masters’ political whims and caprices.
Reacting to the frenzy by Governors to conduct local elections as well as on the Supreme Court’s ruling on local government autonomy, Fagbemi denied that there was no truth to reports suggesting that State Governors had been granted a three-month moratorium to delay the implementation of the court’s decision.
Fagbemi added: “The ruling (Supreme Court) ensures the financial autonomy of all 774 local governments,” pointing out that some State governments have scheduled local elections beyond the October deadline and may face legal challenges if their actions do not align with the law.
“Typically, six months’ notice is required for elections, and failing to meet this condition could result in nullification by the courts,” he said.
Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North in the National Assembly has called for the ban of importation of luxury goods and prohibition of use of foreign currencies for business transactions in Nigeria.
He said in other countries of the world, no matter the status of the individual, as soon as he or she enters the soil of the countries, he changes his foreign currency to the nation’s local currency.
But in Nigeria, he said though there’s a law in the CBN Act banning use of foreign currencies for business transactions, he is seeking an amendment to the Act and ensure it is enforced in the country.
He said: “You cannot pay for anything with the dollar in the United Kingdom. They use the pounds in the UK. In America, it is the dollar. There is no country that uses multiple currencies. For this to work in Nigeria, it means if anybody is coming to buy anything in the country, the person will use only the Naira for transactions.
“So if they are coming from the UK, they will look for the Naira so that they can transact business in the country. Currently, nobody looks for the Naira because we have made it so cheap for them to transact business in dollars and other currencies. With that, there’s no global demand for the Naira.
“If the bill is passed, it means anybody coming to Nigeria must look for the Naira. By this there will be global demand for the Naira. And when there’s a global demand for it, there will be a rise in the value of the Nigeria currency.
“Currently, there is no demand for the Naira anywhere. If you carry a load of the Naira to Heathrow Airport, people will tell you there’s no demand for it. Therefore, for there to be demand for the Naira and increase its value, we must prohibit the use of foreign currencies in Nigeria. By this, people will begin to look for the Naira, and the value will appreciate.
“When the value appreciates with the prohibition law, people will demand for it in the UK and America, and other countries for future business transactions. But now, they don’t have any need for it because when they come to Nigeria they use their dollar to trade.
“You cannot go to Morocco and use any currency other than their local currency. Our allowance of use of dollar for business transactions in the country is a humiliation for our Naira.
“Anybody who wants to buy crude oil should pay in Naira. Currently, all foreign workers in Nigeria are paid in foreign currencies on Nigeria soil. This is discriminatory. This is unacceptable. In other countries, you are paid in their currencies, it doesn’t matter the work you do. We must seek to protect our currency.”
Senator Nwoko also called for the prohibition of all luxury goods in Nigeria, saying “anything we cannot produce we should not import it. This will force us to produce in Nigeria. Government should ban importation of luxury or refined products into the country.
“We cannot continue to import and expect something different. We must patronize Dangote Refinery and take steps to repair our national refineries. This is the only country that is oil and gas producing but still importing refined products.”
