Couples’ Forum: Dame Okowa’s Live Broadcast Bolster Marriages

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA)-

Dame Edith Okowa, wife of Delta State Governor and founder of 05 Initiative, has stressed the need for couples to allow God’s blessing to manifest in their marriages by continually renewing the bond of love for each other.

She stated this at the 2020 edition of Couples’ Forum, an annual fellowship, organized by 05 Initiative, with “God’s Original Plan for Marriage” as theme.

The fellowship designed to strengthen relationships among couples which held on Friday in Asaba, was broadcast live on Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) Television and Radio as well and social media platforms.

The governor’s wife explained that the home building programme was to commemorate World Day of the family, and stressed the need for couples to communicate often in their marriages.

She urged married persons to always study the Bible to understand God’s original plan for instituting marriage.

According to Dame Okowa, “the keys to a successful marriage include communication, love and trust among couples; when you cannot communicate with one another then there is no marriage.”

She stated that one of the benefits of prevailing lockdown in some states in the country occasioned by COVID-19 was the opportunity provided for families to bond.

The governor’s wife added that without a couple leaving their parents and clinging to one another, problems of interference would continue to be witnessed in most marriages.

She remarked that these days, couples spent much energy and resources to prepare for wedding but never prepared for the marriage itself, and called for more counseling to would-be couples.

“We have been doing this every year, but this year’s programme is unique because of the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic.

“As the Bible says, in every situation give thanks; this year’s edition is not holding in our usual venue where we usually have about 500 people listening.

“We are doing it here on live TV, radio and social media platforms because of the social-distancing protocol, but we are glad because this year, we are having more people listening to us than ever and we give God thanks for that.

“One of the things we learnt today is that for you to have a successful marriage, you must leave your parents to cling to your partner because without leaving there cannot be any cleaving and once there is no bonding, the marriage cannot stand the test of time.

“Another learning point from today’s discussion is that both couples must learn to love, respect and appreciate one another for there to be a successful marriage.

“Men should not deal treacherously with the wives of their youth because if they do so their prayers will be hindered,” she stated.

One of the discussants, Pastor David Popoola of Living Faith Church, Asaba, said that partners in a marriage must learn to apologise when they were wrong and also appreciate one another at all times.

“The word ‘I am sorry’ and an appreciation of ‘thank you’ can do a lot of good in every home. You must learn to appreciate your partner and stop looking for faults and errors, study the word of God and pray together with the children,” he stated.

Provincial Pastor of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Asaba, Pastor Olutomi Sodeinde, stressed the need for couples to return to God to fulfill the original plan for them in marriage.

“Having moved away from God’s plan, all we need to do is to move back to God’s plan. Divorce and adultery are not part of God’s original plan for marriage.

“So, if we must go back to God’s plan, it means we must leave so that we can cleave, once you don’t leave, you cannot cleave.

“Many people are married today but they are still lonely. We need to reverse this because it is almost becoming a common thing today and it was not so in the beginning.

“We should repent and go back to our God because when we return to Him, He will return to us” he said.

In her contribution, Dr (Mrs) Augusta Ogbene, Coordinator of Christian Women Intercessors for All Nations (CWIFAN), said that marriage was God’s plan to make man enjoy life in terms of procreation, companionship.

She, however, said “Unfortunately, man has deviated by doing things outside God’s plan and purpose for marriage.

“If there is no trust between couples then there is no marriage. Couples should build trust among themselves because a relationship cannot continue without trust and honesty.

“We must learn to forgive one another, particularly we, the women, because no human being is worth going to hell for.

“You are playing with high blood pressure for as long as you have unforgiveness and bitterness in your heart. You must also learn to respect and appreciate one another because no family can survive without respect for one another.

“Married people today have all manner of issues because they have decided to do things their own way instead of doing things in Gods original plan for marriage.

“You can imagine a woman getting married to her dog in the UK. These things are an affront to the purpose of God for marriage and so there is no way it cannot be visited with the punishment it deserves,’’ she said.

IBRAHIM GAMBARI AND HIS GREAT GAMBLE

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –By Austen AKHAGBEME:

That Prof Ibrahim Agboola Gambari is quintessentially a round peg in diplomatic round holes is not in doubt. He has served in enviable diplomatic positions at the UN and also had a stint locally as Nigeria’s foreign affairs minister.

A former scholar at the Ahmadu Bello University (where yours sincerely also cut his academic teeth), his riveting speechifying and grandiose was among the things that could be remembered about him at the international level. He has contributed scholarly, to the growth and study of Nigeria government and Politics especially as it relates to foreign policy.

It is against this backdrop of an enviable diplomatic and scholastic disposition, that one wonders why he should take a gamble at public service again at his twilight age, for a much lowly position as the Chief of Staff to a President he once served in his prime.

This brings to question the cyclical nature of the Nigerian elites and their painful knack to undermine and relegate the teeming youthful populace in the important scheme of things especially as it relates to serving the motherland.

The Nigerian elites has the uncanny ability to recycle themselves with impunity such that the promise they gave to us as leaders of tomorrow remains a mere painful mantra to calm our nerves only to lure us back to their unending ambitions.

Buhari’s unenviable love for ultra conservative gerontocrats and age-group governance will never allow him to look the way of the youth even in an energy demanding job of the Chief of Staff to a Nigerian President with all the attendant intrigues and tendencies.

One wonder how the erudite Professor will cope with the trivial politics, domestic power play and the often intriguing drama that is associated with the office in recent past. Will he be as tough, stern, proactively and protectively courageous (as the erstwhile Chief of Staff was to the President) whose latchet of his shoes he may not be able to untie?

The way we have elevated the office of the Chief of Staff to the President to that of a defacto or Pseudo Presidency will put too much pressure on the personality of a gentleman administrator that Gambari truly is. The very reason why I thought he took a hard gamble at accepting a job that could ordinarily have been given to his son or crony. But this is Nigeria for you; where the elders will prefer to go to the farms while leaving the vibrant youths at home to take care of the pets. It’s a pity!

PEOPLE, POLITICS AND THE PANDEMIC -With Austen Akhagbeme

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –By Austen AKHAGBEME:

There’s no denying the fact that everyone is being negatively mesmerized by the trends of unforeseen events trailing the advent of the covid 19 pandemic.

Even those who earlier dismissed the notion that covid 19 was an agenda of those who seek to change narratives for mankind are gradually but regrettably coming to the realization of their fluke perspective and opaque narratives.

From the crumbling National Economies and its devastating effect on labour relations, to the threat to customary liberties, human rights and freedom, the world is badly hit and need to be rescued by all and sundry.

The story has long graduated from the Chinese wet market of Wuhan to a much more dangerous narrative of a selected few, working in conjunction with a selected non state actors to capture the world and bend her rules to favour their luciferian desires.

Despite these staggering revelations, postulation and suspicion, there are those who ignorantly are falling victim every day to the manipulation of these evil few to unleash mayhem on their fellow citizens all in the name of complying with the lockdown or social distancing or both. The internet is replete with pictures and videos of brutal enforcement by some states of the covid 19 emergency laws while the people are daily being bombarded with fearful but doubtful and unsubstantiated figures of infection, death and recovery of covid 19 patients.

Some Nation states, if not all, who choose to play politics with the pandemic are smiling home to the banks while shouting compliance orders to the already bamboozled citizenry. The world is truly in a trying period and the earlier we tell ourselves the truth, the better for us all.

The scientists, medical experts and a few political leaders are beginning to speak up; the emergency laws are strange and laden with sinister motives and lethal intensions. Brutality, annihilation and the subtlety of the evil policy of gradualism is unleashed and mankind will be the victim at the end of the day.

The geopolitical nature of the saga and its political economy is lopsided, favouring the metropoles against the impoverished periphery. Africa again has been chosen as the ready Guinea pig for the testing of the yet to be discovered vaccine while she’s being berated for daring to discover her own vaccine in Madagascar.

Covid 19 is changing the way we live, work, socialise, interact and travel. Long term ‘solutions’ are daily being proffered by some states as though pandemic lasts forever or was this one planned to last forever? This is the reason why we must pray and do everything possible to return the world to its old habitably peaceful state and place. The lies about covid 19 must be exposed and the morbid intentions of its perpetrators, nipped in the bud.

UMTH Discharges 6 COVID-19 Patients

Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –From Mike SOGBOLA, MAIDUGURI:

The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) on Sunday discharged six COVID-19 patients.

The six were part of the list of 24 patients kept at the hospital’s isolation centre after they were initially tested positive to the pandemic, but recent tests gave them a clean bill of health, according to the Chief Medical Director UMTH, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo.

The CMD told journalists that the six patients after the initial test which came positive, tested negative to the two other tests carried out on them during their time in isolation.

Ahidjo who was represented at the briefing by Dr. Sanusi Ibrahim, the deputy chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Clinical Services UMTH, Ahidjo disclosed that four out of the six discharged patients are staff of the hospital.

He said for the safety of the health workers, a testing box has been provided by the management which keeps the staff away from having physical contact with patients while collecting samples to conduct tests.

Ahidjo said: “We discovered that in our fight against COVID-19 pandemic, we have made some major strides. The strides are that some patients that were admitted are now free to go home.

“Some people have said that COVID-19 doesn’t exist. That when you come to UMTH with other issues, you would be treated as COVID-19 patient . So we are interested in making people know that it is not so. That indeed we had people who were positive, and today they have tested negative on two consecutive occasions and they are fit and free to go home.”

The Chief Medical Director said: “UMTH is very ready to improve the care of the people not only on the diseases that we all know in the past, but the new COVID-19 pandemic.”

One of the discharged patients, who later shared his experience at the isolation centre to Journalists, said “situation has not been easy there despite the care and love shown to us by the health workers.”

The discharged patient, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said when the sickness started, he thought it was malaria and took three injections for fever, but the malaria persisted and he discovered that he was having sore throat , and from sore throat it moved to diarrhoea.

He said: “I voluntarily decided to go for test and after the test , I was confirmed positive. Right there , I was quarantined and placed under isolation. Today is my 14th day here. I want to thank God and my people for their prayers.

“I want all to know that coronavirus pandemic is real. People should follow the guidelines and procedures against the pandemic.”

LOCKDOWN: “WE HAVE BEEN OBEYING GOVERNMENT DIRECTIVES” – PRIMATE OGBODOGBO

-As Some Churches Flout Facemask, Social Distancing Order

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) – From Michael EKOKORUWE:

The President and General Overseer of New Testimony Gospel Church, Oleh, Isoko South local government area of Delta State, Primate Dr. Moses Ogbodogbo (JP) has affirmed religious leaders total compliance to directives of the lockdown by Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta State, to curtail the spread of COVID 19 pandemic in Isoko South as the government relaxes restriction on places of worship in the area.

Primate Ogbodogbo made the statement at Oleh, Isoko South local government area of Delta State while fielding questions from journalists on the role of the church in curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world as global emergency.

Primate Ogbodogbo

However, a visit round some churches in Oleh and environs revealed that members of different denominations, during Sundays worship, failed to wear facemasks and the social distancing order was flouted as sitting arrangements remained the same.

Meanwhile, Primate of New Testimony Gospel Church said, “Since the lockdown, we have been obeying government directives, washing our hands with soap and water, there has been no church service, we send food items to our members and others especially the less privileged in the streets”.

He stated that it is the role of medical doctors to treat COVID 19 positive patients in government built teaching hospitals even as government has invested money in such isolation centers to care for all positive cases of the virus.

He warned pastors to be very careful to quickly identify COVID 19 victims if brought to them for prayers, but however noted that pastors can only pray and God will heal, saying, “We believe that if we call upon the name of God, the pandemic will go away”.

Primate Ogbodogbo condemned the attitude of some pastors that published the account numbers of the church and asked members to pay their offerings and tithes.

He said, “I never supported that members should pay tithe online. In my church, we withdrew money to buy food items and share to members, they can’t go to work and looking for what to eat, and then you asked them to send tithe”.

The clergyman disclosed that, on 17th of January 2020, during his usual one month prayer, God opened his eyes and he saw what is happening now, saying, “God will save us from the problem that has come to Nigeria and the world; people will lock doors against themselves and our streets will be deserted”.

He continued,” God gave me directive on what to do to members of my church; I anointed them and pray that God will save us from the pandemic that has come to Nigeria and the world. I and other men of God also went round and consecrated the land of Isoko with oil so that the pandemic will not come to Isoko Land”

Primate Ogbodogbo urged Christians to learn from the COVID 19 pandemic experience as countries, states and communities were lockdown with difficulties and juxtapose with the judgment day of rapture that will be more dangerous than the present situation.

He maintained that, when God’s judgment will come, many will run helter skelter, adding that while some people will be rejoicing, others will be lamenting on the last day.

Ogbodogbo noted that COVID 19 pandemic experience has enough lessons for Christians to learn and prepare for the judgment day.

COVID-19: Tension In White House, As Trump’s Close Aides Test Positive To Virus

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –By Foreign Desk Correspondent:

President Donald Trump and Vice President Pence and most White House Aides would not stay out for 14 days, the recommended time frame to quarantine once exposed to the virus.

Two staff members were diagnosed with the coronavirus during the week, raising questions about a safe work environment for Trump, Pence and their staff at the White House.

It is however not yet clear on Saturday, if the staff who tested positive, Pence spokeswoman Katie Miller and a military valet to the president would self-quarantine.

Meanwhile, White House spokesman Judd Deere has said:
“The president’s physician and White House operations continue to work closely to ensure every precaution is taken to keep the president, first family and the entire White House complex safe and healthy at all times.

“In addition to social distancing, daily temperature checks and symptom histories, hand sanitizer, and regular deep cleaning of all work spaces, every staff member in proximity to the president and vice president is being tested daily for covid-19 as well as any guests.”

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Stephen Hahn and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield, both task force members, said they are self-quarantining or teleworking for two weeks afterexposure to a coronavirus case at the White House.

Official’s are now taking varied levels of precaution in response to the positive cases at the White House, having been encouraged to “practice maximum telework” and to “work remotely if at all possible.”

It remains unclear whether some White House officials and other members of the coronavirus task force have been in closer proximity to the infected aides than others and therefore would be at greater risk of contracting the virus.

But concerns were evident at the White House, where there is worry that if Miller and the unidentified personal valet to Trump are infected, then multiple officials may be at risk.

After news of Miller’s diagnosis, aides were going through seating charts, looking at her schedule to discern where she had been and trying to question anyone who may have been close to her in a room.

Miller, who had told other colleagues that she did not have symptoms, attended a senior staff meeting on the coronavirus at 8 a.m. on Friday and was near other aides, rattling some of her White House colleagues. Neither Trump nor Pence was in the meeting.

A number of aides from Pence’s office were sent home on Friday after the contact tracing was complete. Miller is married to top White House aide Stephen Miller, who is expected to quarantine at home for the time being.

Covid-19: DESOPADEC Takes Bold Preventive Measures **Approves Fumigation, Decontamination Of Offices

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA)- By Bawo Akpo OFERE/Albert OGRAKA:

In a bid to ensure the safety of staff, ahead of the partial resumption to work after the government lockdown order, necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), has successfully carried out decontamination and fumigation of the Commission’s offices before resumption of duties.

The exercise, which took place on 2nd May, 2020, was sequel to the approval of the Managing Director/CEO of the Commission, Bashorun Hon. Askia Ogieh, for the safety of staff from the COVID-19 pandemic and to rid the offices of rodents, termites, reptiles and insects.

All the offices and precincts of the Commission were appropriately fumigated and decontaminated by the firm contracted to do the job while the exercise was duly supervised by select staff from the Environment Division of the Social Services Department.

The entire process was properly monitored by the duo of the Director, Administration and Supplies, Pst. Ferdinand Ebiboh and a Deputy Director in the department, Mr. Ejogbamu Sam.

The decontamination and fumigation exercise was made possible by the cooperation and compliance of the various Heads of Departments, secretaries and other staff that made themselves available to make sure all the offices were open.

The exercise began with offices at the Warri-Sapele Road Head Office, from both blocks, to the ongoing building behind block B, to the newly acquired office space by the Head Office, and to the Annex Office at Swamp Road.

According to the Director, Department of Administration and Supplies, Pst. Ferdinand Ebiboh, the idea behind the decontamination and fumigation, (and not just fumigation alone) was a well thought proactive initiative by the Chief Executive of the Commission, Bashorun Hon. Askia Ogieh, against the backdrop of the current ravaging coronavirus pandemic that has radically changed the rhythm of corporate governance all over the world.

“This effort has offered hope that more measures will be put in place to monitor and ensure the sustenance of the various measures already started, including social distancing, hand washing and the use of hand sanitizers at our offices.

“As staff of certain grade levels and essential services prepare to resume duties on Monday May 4, 2020 in the aftermath of the executive directive by His Excellency the Governor of the state, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the current preventive measure by the Board being a major one is highly commendable indeed.

“Consequently, all staff are admonished that the safety of everyone else is dependent on them via their actions and omission.

“By our collective cooperation in this wise, we are certain to continue driving the preventive effort of the state government.”

Deltans Assured Of Food Security After Covid-19 **As Govt Provides Farm Inputs To Enhance Production

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –By Editor:

Delta State is poised to ensure maximum food production for the people in the midst of and after the Covid-19 pandemic.

The feat is seen to be achievable as more beneficiaries of the Delta State Government’s Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP) have continued to receive farm input/support package to boost food production in the state.

The beneficiaries who are of the 2019/2020 Cycle included YAGEPreneurs in Piggery, Poultry, Fish Production and Crop Production.

With 259 youth farmers in the 2019/2020 Cycle, the state government is poised to give greater attention to Agriculture to ensure food security, job and wealth creation and to ensure economic stability especially in this trying time of global fall in the price of oil due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

It is estimated that at end of the production cycle of each farm enterprise, there would be abundant food supply in the state, enough to feed the state and to sell to other parts of the country.

While Poultry (Broilers) has 58 YAGEPreneurs in the cycle, 32 YAGEPreneurs are farmers of layer birds. Altogether, while the former is estimated to produce 113 metric tonnes of live birds, the latter will produce 4.1 million eggs.

Also, with 71 YAGEPreneurs in Fish Production, 74 metric tonnes of table fish will be produced within a period of four to six months while the 24 YAGEPreneurs in Piggery will produce 307 metric tonnes of pork.

In the same vein, the 74 YAGEPreneurs in Crop Production is estimated to produce 588 metric tonnes of cassava in the cassava category while those in the maize category will produce 296 metric tonnes of grains.

No doubt, the effects of these outcome cannot be overemphasized not only on the lives of the beneficiaries, their immediate families and Deltans but on the economy of the state in particular and Nigeria in general.

Addressing newsmen at the Delta State Agricultural Rural Development Agency in Ibusa (DARDA), the venue where beneficiaries in Crop Production within Delta North Senatorial District received their support package, the Coordinator YAGEP, Mr Sam Ndikanwu, explained that cash was earlier transferred to all beneficiaries in Poultry, Fish Production and Crop Production to purchase livestock/seedlings for their individual enterprises.

He said beneficiaries in Crop Plantation within Delta North Senatorial District who had concluded land preparation, purchased and planted their seedlings were in DARDA to receive the recommended bags of fertilizers and agrochemicals for pest and weed control.

The YAGEP Coordinator pointed out that though the one month lockdown as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic had affected the planting season which could lead to food shortage after the harvest season, he assured that the gap would be filled by the agricultural activities of the YAGEPreneurs .

He stated that the Delta State YAGEP initiative would bridge the gap in the shortfall in food supply in Delta State and beyond, stressing that why so many Deltans were on lockdown, the state government under the direction of Governor Okowa, was working to ensure that food is assured in Delta State.

Testifying to the credibility of the programme, he said, “Right from the beginning, the Governor directed that all Brown YAGEP beneficiaries must be farmers in reality not political ones. I led the team to the field to verify their farms to ascertain their eligibility before the qualified ones were recommended for the programme.”

A beneficiary in Plantain Production, Nwosu Votary (Aniocha North LGA) affirmed the experience has been great right from the training. According to him, “Earlier, I was given money to buy 500 suckers of high breed plantain suckers which I planted after preparing my land. I am in DARDA to receive 11 bags of fertilizer and 8 cans of agrochemicals for my farm.”

He said that additional 500 suckers to the 200 he had before would make great difference in his enterprise, leading to business expansion, food security, financial stability and job creation for other unemployed youths.

Also, Owolabi Ebiere (Patani LGA) in Cassava Production expressed her joy for the opportunity granted to her to benefit from the programme which she said would boost her capacity to produce more cassava tubers, make her self-independent and a contributor to adequate food supply in the state.

In Warri, Boyi Yihzuo Charles (Warri South West LGA) in Poultry emphasized that the inclusion of existing farmers into the YAGEP has increased his relevance in the poultry business, stressing that the aftermath of the state government’s support package will grow his business. “There is scarcity of poultry products in Ogbe-Ijoh. With 300 broilers and 120 bags of feed to take them to maturity, I will take over the market there,” he added.

He commended Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for encouraging and helping youths to go into agriculture which he said is a money spinner, and if well invested in could make Delta State and Nigeria economically stable.

Borno COVID-19 C’ttee Dodges Daily Press Briefing… As Casualties Increase

Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –From Mike SOGBOLA, Maiduguri:

The Borno State High Powered Committee on COVID-19 seems to have shied away from the press and public scrutiny for fear that they may be compelled to divulge the cause of death of prominent indigenes of the state.

As at the time of the last press briefing on Wednesday, the committee was bombarded with enquiries on what could have been responsible for the death of the Shehu of Bama, Kyari Elkanemi.

The Shehu’s cause of death, which the committee in spite of being an open secret that he died from COVID-19, seems to be hiding.

The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Salisu Kwaya-Bura, a medical doctor, had hidden under the secrecy of client’s health condition evaded given confirmation on the cause of death of the late Shehu despite the fact that as a Commissioner of health he hold it a duty to protect the life of generality of the people (public health) of the state.

The journalists were not impressed with the commissioner’s tactics especially as some of them few days before his death had interviewed him in person, and where afraid of what could have become of them and that perhaps they should go on self isolation.

The journalists were equally unhappy how would the government had gone on tracing contacts with the Shehu since he was not declared to have died of the pandemic.

Just when the issue of the Shehu was gaining mileage, a lawmaker, believed to have died of COVID-19, cause of death was kept secret by the state.

With the death of another high profile indigene of Borno State, the first civilian governor of Old Borno (present day Yobe and Borno), Alhaji Mohammed Goni, the journalists were bracing up to ask the committee for the cause of death.

This could not however be achieved as the committee has not come out to brief then.

The governor of the state, had early tasked the committee to ensure that the media were briefed daily.

But in the last two days, the committee had shied from the media though the figure of death and positive cases continued to rise.

This has made the people of the state apprehensive of the correct situation of health in the state and whether the committee has anything to hide.

Journalists who gathered at the Multipurpose Hall of the Government House for the second day awaiting the arrival of the committee members were told to disperse as there was not going to be any briefing.

They had waited from between 5-5:30pm before the usual Master of Ceremony for the occasion Mr. Lanre Obadiah, a Special Assistant to the Governor announced that from all indications, the briefing will not be holding.

He however gave the assurance that the briefing will certainly hold the following day (Saturday) and expressed regret for whatever inconveniences that the failure to address them might have caused.

Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA):

Meanwhile, it will be recalled that the Interim Management Commitee (IMC) had few days ago submitted it’s report to the Lead Consultant and Auditors for the commencement of the forensic audit.

Two COVID-19 Positive Patients On The Run In Borno Resurfaced

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –From Mike SOGBOLA, Maiduguri:

The two COVID-19 positive persons that were reported to have been on the run in Maiduguri, on Monday resurfaced.

One of the two, Abbas Hassan, a 24 year-old male, who tested positive was found after he was traced to a resident in Maiduguri at about 2am, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Salisu Kwaya-Bura revealed.

The Commissioner said a combined team of health surveillance and investigation team, backed by a police escort traced the patient who was in a critical state to his family house in Gwange II.

He said he was immediately moved on stretcher and is now on ventilator at an isolation centre.

He said health workers are doing everything humanly possible to revive the patient while a contact tracing and surveillance team has been deployed to identify persons who may have had direct and indirect contacts with him for risk assessment, isolation advice and collection of samples for tests.

The second, Hauwa Mohammed, 42 year-old female, who was declared at large after testing positive to COVID-19 is said to have reported herself to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH)

An apology was given by officials of UMTH laboratory and the Borno Commissioner of Health for declared are to be at large.

The apology was given after Hauwa protested that she did not receive communication from the COVID-19 lab at UMTH or from officials of the state response team.

She disclosed that she had been on self isolation since her sample was taken for test due to exposure of a confirmed case days back.

Borno’s commissioner of health and secretary of the state’s high powered response team told journalists that Hauwa brought herself in a very responsible and medically professional manner which was highly commendable.

She said even though Hauwa was on self isolation since her sample was taken, a surveillance and investigation team has been deployed to assess risks of infection in line with the protocol of dealing with epidemics and pandemics.

With Hauwa’s return, all COVID-19 patients in Borno state are now fully accounted for.

It would be recalled that at about 2am today, 24-year old male was traced and moved to hospital isolation, hours after he was at large.

EXPERT DISCLOSES PATTERNS OF TRANSMISSION OF COVID-19 IN NIGERIA *Predicts New Cases To Hit 3,000 In May

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –By Albert OGRAKA:

A renowned Delta State based Biometrician Geneticist and member of International Biometrician Geneticist Convention (MIBGC), Olisemeka Isiekwe PhD, has predicted that Covid-19 flu infections, would rise, hitting a 3,000 high in May.

He also said that, “The trend line equation of treated patients shows that by 25th of May, a thousand (1,000) patients would have been treated. Similarly, about 150 patients would die by same date.”

Dr. Isiekwe, who applied some models to ascertain the transmission and fatality rates of the spread in Nigeria, revealed that the patterns of transmission of Covid-19 in the country has proven that 3,000 new cases are expected by May, 25, 2020.

In a statement made exclusively available to Blank NEWS Online, the Biometrician Geneticist, said that recent government’s effort to flatten the transmission curve have been unsuccessful.

He noted that although the government was lackadaisical to act at the onset, the governed also were skeptical of the authenticity of the malaise because they were full of disbelief.

According to Dr. Isiekwe, “The worse has been the level of disbelief within the 200 million public until what seemed to be the truth started to emerge. Persons are now seeing known loved ones being infected.”

He regretted that Nigeria has gone beyond the incubation period and reached the community transmission level.

“Unfortunately, the transmission level has passed the incubation period. It has reached the community transmission level. The curve is no so vertically steeped that a 100% previous day infection is gradually becoming real.”

While describing Nigeria’s health personnel as best in Africa, despite the inadequate infrastructure, he warned government that the intermittent relaxation of the lockdown is a dangerous trend in fighting the global pandemic.

Read Statement:

PATTERNS OF TRANSMISSION OF COVID-19 IN NIGERIA NOW KNOWN, AS 3000 NEW CASES ARE EXPECTED BY 25TH MAY 2020.

When the world was taken aback by Covid-19 flu infections in early 2020, different models where postulated on its transmission and fatality.

The transmission of 2n=y weekly model and the 3% fatality rates where the most common. Till now, the models are in great use for the management of the disease and the outcomes.

In Nigeria, the attempts of the government have been to flatten the transmission curve without success. The rate of failure to achieve this has been a double pronged issue. Whereas the government was not quick to act at the onset, the governed where skeptical of the authenticity of the malaise and full of disbelief. The worse has been the level of disbelieve within the 200 million public until what seemed to be the truth started to emerge. Persons are now seeing known loved ones being infected.

Unfortunately, the transmission level has passed the incubation period. It has reached the community transmission level. The curve is now so vertically steeped that a 100% previous day infection is gradually becoming real.

Transmission Curve:

Y= 0,498×2-9.514x or y = 0.017×2.448 both with R-square values of 0.933 and 0.783 respectively. Both yield an over 80 multipliers thus capable of producing about 2000 new cases in 25 days to come. With a very high R=Square value accordingly, the new figures could exceed 3000 by the 25th of May.

This result is real as Nigeria has entered the community transmission phase of Covid-19 spread. The situation in Kano state currently will worsen the whole situation in Nigeria.

Similar trend line is also noticed with the level of treatment of Covid-19 patients in Nigeria. This shows that it is not all grim after all. The tenacity of purpose of Nigeria’s health personnel amidst low level infrastructure is better than those of other African countries. Nigeria’s treatment level is quite higher than the rest.

The trend line equation of treated patients shows that by 25th of May, a thousand (1000) patients would have been treated. Similarly, about 150 patients would die by same date.

The management of Covid-19 in Nigeria should be taken seriously to avoid the Spanish and the Italian experience. Aside the normal hygienic campaign, more effort should be geared towards more Nigerians believing on the existence of the disease. Most people are still at the level of disbelieve and they are more dangerous than the infected.

Better lockdown should be established nationwide. The idea of intermittent relaxation of the lockdown is a dangerous trend and very inimical to the growth of the infection.

The establishment of more molecular laboratories should immediately be looked into. The infrastructure in Nigeria is very inadequate. With just 15 centres for over 200million people is a difficult omen.
PPE for our medics should be improved just like the need for better machines and employment of more hands.

Two COVID-19 Patients On The Run In Maiduguri, As Fear Grips Residents

–Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA): From Mike SOGBOLA, North East Correspondent:

Fear has gripped Maiduguri, the Borno State capital as two patients, Abbas Hassan, a 24 year-old male and Hauwa Mohammed, 42 year-old female, are on the run after testing positive to COVID-19 at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH)

The man is said to be residing at Layin Tanki in Gwange II while the woman lives in Shuwari ward, both in Maiduguri.

The Borno Commissioner of Health and Secretary to the state’s high powered response team for the prevention and control of COVID-19, Dr. Salisu Kwaya-Bura alerted the public at the team’s daily media briefing held on Sunday.

The commissioner said the male patient (Abbas) was in initial telephone contact with the response team after his sample was collected, but eventually switched off his phone when he learnt he tested positive.

He also said a phone number through which the patient’s mother was in touch with the team was also been switched off.

“When samples of patients with contacts to index cases are collected, they are normally advised to go on self-isolation. They give their contacts so they can be reached when results are out. This is the standard medical procedure. You cannot detain someone with suspected contact.

“We do not have the lawful powers to do that. Other patients were also allowed to leave but they came into isolation centres and we have 19 of them in two isolation centres. However, the young man in question, chose to go into hiding”.

He noted that a diligent surveillance and investigation team is working very hard to track the patient.

Kwaya-Bura called on anyone who test positive to the disease not to regard it as a death sentence, noting that majority of those who test positive have recovered.

The Commissioner disclosed that 16 of Borno’s COVID-19 cases emanated from community transmission, while 14 others were connected with the index and another case.

He advised residents to take serious preventive measures across the state.

He announced that the response team plans to ensure that anyone entering major markets at the relaxation of lockdown on Monday must wear a face mask which can be made of cloth material if one does not have the medical mask.

He said the response team will be making masks available while hand washing points will also be increased to ensure hands are washed at entry and exit points.

COVID-19: Borno Positive Cases Stabilize At 15 In 24 Hours

–Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA): From Mike Sogbola, North East Correspondent:

There has been no increase in incident of COVID-19 in Borno state in the last 24 hours despite the testing of 17 persons believed to have had contact with the index case.

Briefing journalists on Saturday, the Borno State Commissioner of Health and Secretary of the High Powered Response Team for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19, Dr. Salisu Kwaya-Bura, said within the last 24 hours, no positive case was recorded in the state.

He said contrary to the fear of many, 17 persons in Pulka, Gwoza local government area, identified to have had close contact with the first (index) case have all tested negative to the virus.

He explained that a surveillance and investigation team had initially identified 35 individuals with contacts to the index case, but from further analysis, only 17 persons met the medical criteria for tests to be carried out on them.

He however lamented that the state recorded one more death from the 15 positive cases recorded on Thursday.

The Commissioner also said that there was no cause for alarm over the disease breaking out at the camp, disclosing that the positive case which was early arrested at Bakasi IDP camp but mysteriously escaped was later found in the camp and had been taken to an isolation centre.

He said of the 15 cases reported in Borno, seven patients are receiving medical attention at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital and 5 patients are at Brigadier General Abba Kyari Isolation centre, managed by the state government, also in Maiduguri.

He noted that the remaining three cases are the deaths recorded.

Meanwhile, the lockdown is to be relaxed on Monday and Thursday to allow for restocking by the residents of the state.

The Commissioner of Information, Babakura Abba-Jatto said the COVID-19 Response Team has accepted and approved a recommendation by the governor asking for lockdown to be relaxed on Monday and Thursday for residents to shop for food,

He however explained that the committee is taking measures to ensure strict social distancing during the days and part of the measures is to enforce the use of face masks as conditions for entrance into major markets, particularly in Maiduguri metropolis which is highly populated.

He said the Response Team plans to make face masks available at market entry points alongside hand sanitizers to be applied by shoppers at entry and exit points at major markets.

COVID-19: Why it took time to discover Borno’s index case- UMTH, CMD

Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) – From Mike SOGBOLA- Maiduguri:

The Chief Medical Director of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital ( UMTH  ), Professor Ahmed Ahidjo has revealed why it took time to discovered the COVID-19 index case in Borno State.

The positive test to COVID-19 of the index case, came out after he had already been killed by the pandemic and he may not have had the opportunity to be isolated and treated in line with the regulations binding the disease.

Ahidjo speaking to journalists on Friday, said the index case had no record of travel outside the state and had been battling  with respiratory related problem before his admission and eventual death.

The CMD gave the clarification while responding on issues of what went wrong and why the COVID-19 status of the index case was not discovered until after his death.

Ahidjo said if not for the professional knowledge and ethics of UMTH staff, who out of high index of suspicion, went beyond the National Centre for Disease Control recommendations and tested the patient which became positive, more casualty would have been recorded beyond what is on ground.

He explained that since the patient is previously known with chest problem and haven been admitted in the past at the hospital, had UMTH staff not acted swiftly by picking the case outside the main box of diagnosis, the contacts of the index case would have not been known, which could lead to explosion of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

He disclosed that UMTH sadly had a share out of the over 40 health workers said by minister of health to have tested positive to COVID-19 as six health workers from the hospital have tested positive and are presently doing well at the hospital’s isolation centre.

The CMD said:” The Index case is a patient that was already having respiratory problem, he was admitted previously here in UMTH with a chest problem. So he is a known patient with a chest problem.  And also , he has no history of travel outside Borno state for the past three months .

” And he came from Pulka where there was no recorded case of COVID-19.  So he would not fit into the criteria for being a suspected COVID-19 patient.  So despite that, our Staff having high index of suspicion went beyond the NCDC recommendations and they tested him , which become positive.

” If not for the professional knowledge and ethics of our staff, it would have gone unchecked.  And you can imagine what would happen, if the patient had died and all the contacts we are seeing now remained untraced.  I think UMTH needs to be commended for picking this case outside the main box of diagnosis,” Ahidjo said.

He however assured that the pressure from  handling of the COVID-19 issues will not affect the hospital’s tackling of other emergency cases.

The CMD appealed to security agencies to allow health workers have free passage to work.

He said when they come in contact with health workers coming to work, they should know that they are rendering essential services.  They should also understand the plight of patients on emergency situation.  End

RETRENCHMENT LOOMS: HERITAGE OIL FIRM MARGINALIZES ISOKO HOST COMMUNITIES IN OML 30 *IDU Seeks Okowa’s Intervention

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) –By Michael EKOKORUWE:

Isoko nation is constrained to unravel the hidden intentions of the management of Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited, manager of the Oil Mining Lease 30 Isoko cluster groups, as the company writes to send hosts communities staffs to compulsory leave and employ new staffs in the area.

The President General of Isoko Development Union (IDU), High Chief Iduh Amadhe disclosed that, Isoko nation is grossly marginalized and to further shortchange the host communities of OML 30, the apex body of Isoko ethnic nationality has been reliably informed of the preposterous retrenchment plans of the oil firm.

High Chief Amadhe

He maintained that, Isoko oil and gas host leadership gave the hint recently, describing the plan as evil and ludicrous, culpable of creating tension and civil unrest among indigenous staffs of the company. He noted that in spite of OML 30 clusters, high quantum of 65 % crude oil production, Isoko Communities cluster groups have been marginalized in employment.

Amadhe stated that, Isoko host communities of OML 30 have been sidelined as Heritage management records indicate that, Isoko host Communities’ 65% oil production work force is 148 staff, other host communities’ work force is 221 staff while none indigenes from other tribes work force is 304 staffs.

The president general noted that, the above records reveal that the company does not employ qualified sons and daughters of Isoko extraction and never value the peaceful disposition and cordial relationship enjoyed since they took over the management of OML 30 in the area.

Amadhe added that, it is on record that Isoko host communities of OML 30 are the most peaceful in the entire Niger Delta region, stressing that it is a fit that the people have struggled to maintain with Heritage oil film over the years.

He stated that, the oil company is currently sending indigenous staff on compulsory leave to be replaced by none indigenes which according to him is unacceptable to the people of OML 30 host communities.

Amadhe appealed to Senator Dr. Infeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta State to intervene and call Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited to order by laying – off none indigenes and reduce the employment ratio to 70% and 30% accordingly as stipulated by the G.M.O.U and respect the derivation policy.

Government should also direct the company to patronize indigenous contractors to execute contracts in OML 30 as stated in article 13 of the G.M.O.U and maintain the existing peace between the company and host communities, he said.

Bashorun Askia Preaches Love, Compassion At Ramadan

-Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) -By Albert OGRAKA:

Managing Director of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Bashorun Askia Ogieh has urged all Muslim faithful to show more love and compassion in this holy month of Ramadan just as he prayed for God’s mercy to heal the distress and untold pains currently being experienced worldwide caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Bashorun (Hon.) Askia Ogieh (JP)

Bashorun Askia in a Ramadan message Friday in Warri to mark the beginning of the holy month said, “There is no better time than now to show compassion and love towards others, faced with the current Coronavirus pandemic which has rendered many to be helpless and in dire need. Abstinence from worldly pleasures without giving needed assistance to our suffering people, especially the less privilege will be contrary and at variance to the teachings of the Holy Prophet Mohammed.”

Bashorun Askia who said he always breaks the fasting with the Muslims faithful in Isokoland bemoaned the situation where he will be unable to do so this time because of the lockdown and social distancing directive to curb the spread of the disease.

“For the first time in my life, just like us Christians who observed the Easter in our homes, our Muslim brothers and sisters are about to do the same in this holy month. THE PANDEMIC: IMPERIALISM OF THE BAD SAMARITANS -By Austen Akhagbeme

Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) – By Austen AKHAGBEME:

It is often very worrisome to think that Africa ,over the years, have always been the victim of foreign negative machinations and the extra externalities of factors (clothed in various euphemisms) that often helped to undermine and unmake Africa.

The story of ancient mercantilism, chattel slavery, colonialism, imperialism and lately globalization, is well known to be the chequered road that gave birth to the impoverished African continent of today.

Even the very natural resources that Africa is endowed with has morphed into internecine wars, orchestrated by these same “external variables ” to see to it that Africa remains a perpetual Junior partner in the international division of labour.

These imperialistic tendencies has refused to let Africa be as they appear to be more and more carnivorous by the day as the continent trudges and groops in utmost darkness. This is the very reason why ” the helpers of Africa “often think Africa as a huge and ready laboratory to carry out their nefarious experiments in all facets of western endeavour.

Today, as the world battles with covid 19 and its devastating effects on mankind, Africa has once again become the target of those whose morbid desires it is to depopulate the world to make it habitable, enjoyable and convenient to a self chosen ‘superior ‘ beings to inherit.

While the origin of the Pandemic and its purpose is still shrouded in mystery, permutation and theories, the mad rush to suggest that Africa should be the testing ground for a vaccine yet to be discovered is a rude pointer to the sinister motives of those who often profess to love Africa more than Africans themselves.

It is still a ridiculous paradox, to independent minded public health experts, that the first line of action for an outbreak of a pandemic is Vaccine and not the often hurriedly suggested solution of a curative therapy. The fact that the almighty World Health Organisation is in sink with this suggestion leaves much to be desired and smacks of complicity and liability.

The age-old scale is gradually falling off the eyes of the American establishment as they seem to be asking the right questions and making the much needed moves to stop the Bad Samaritans in their tracks. This is ably demonstrated by the withdrawal of the usual funding of this conspiratorial behemoth by the American government recently.

Questions upon questions are being asked daily as covid 19 takes its death toll on humanity. Where did this strain of Virus comes from? Is it truly from the Chinese wet market in Wuhan as Beijing owned up to or is it a chemically engineered weapon from a laboratory as Washington alleged? Where is Dr Fauci and Mr Bill Gates in this knotty equation? Why is the emphasis more on vaccine for a disease that has “no known cure “? What is the correlation between America,Spain, Italy that was badly hit by the pandemic with China on one hand and the major cities of China like Beijing that were free, on the other?

Until and unless credible answers are provided for the above questions and some others, the secret desires of the deep state and their wide spread dragnet of collaborators will never be known or be nipped in the board.

The Power theorists are not left out in this melee. They’re of the opinion that covid 19 is a miscalculated effort by the Chinese to square up with American economically without firing a shot. But unfortunately, it has escaped to the rest of the world and therefore has successfully exposed Beijing’s to global acrimony and disrepute.

Nevertheless, the pandemic is nothing but an imperialistic tool aimed at depopulating the world, especially Africa, by the new imperialists lovers of Africa (The bad samaritans) with a selfish collaborative synergy of the world Shadow government, made up of the few who have arrogated to themselves, the responsibility of ‘saving’ the world.

They’re not difficult to identify. They have their fingers on every pie in the world especially amongst developing Economies all around the world. They give aids, grants, loans and more often than not, gives unsolicited advice on population growth, global warming, Vaccines and life expectancy to peripheral states. They choose to love Africa more than Africans. These are the Bad Samaritans.
