Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Albert OGRAKA: Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, former Governor of oil wealthy Delta state.
Immediate Past Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan has warned mischief makers and those seeking cheap popularity to stop using his name as a vehicle to achieve their evil plots.
Dr. Uduaghan gave the warning on Monday, April 03, 2017, in a statement issued and made available to Blank NEWS Online by Mr. Sunny Areh, his media aide, in reaction to two contradictory press releases purportedly authorised by the former Governor in the last two days and which have been trending on the social media.
The first release, signed by one Tony Oritseje, claiming to be Uduaghan’s Press Secretary, said that the former Governor had dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), a statement which is false in its entirety.
A second release, credited to an unnamed media aide sought to repudiate the first statement, pouring invectives on the APC and its leadership, claiming that it was authored by the ex-Governor.
But, Dr Uduaghan, disassociated himself from both releases, which he said were targeted at creating mischief and gain negative publicity, thereby smearing his name and reputation in the process.
“This is obviously the work of mischief makers and those seeking cheap publicity. It is a joke taken too far. None of my aides is named Tony Oritseje. It was obviously meant to create disaffection for me and my successor, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the PDP and the Federal Government,” he stated.
The former Governor noted that he had maintained a very low profile since leaving office as a deliberate policy to allow current actors have enough space to attain their goals and fulfil electoral promises.
“People close to me know this is not my style. I have deliberately maintained a low profile to allow those in power today to have enough space to fulfil electoral promises to the people. It is not my style to seek cheap publicity or disrupt a peaceful process that is delivering democracy dividends to the people,” he added.
Uduaghan therefore warned against the use of his name to cause disaffection between him and the authorities, pointing out that he would not hesitate to go to seek redress in the law court should they persist.

Rhetorically we say the world is a global village. Everyone thinks he can take advantage of this and find home away from home in any part of the world, especially Africans in Africa. The advantage includes the inter-exchange of goods and service across the globe. But demographically, everyone has a place to call his home even if world leaders tell us through constitutional framework that one can live and work in the countries of his or her choice, xenophobic witch-hunt travails everywhere but very few are heard or known.
Among the respected countries of the world xenophobia has been order of all time. In 1982, Francois Mitterrand addressed the French parliament and made allusion to strangers living in his country that a stone can live a hundred years under water but will never become a fish. Strangers in foreign land must know this once and for all. Of all the forecasts and Opinion polls in favour of Hillary Clinton in recent presidential election in America Donald Trump came victorious because his campaign was established on xenophobic philosophy. It beat the imaginations of many in this 21st century.
In Africa, Many African presidents who saw Francois Mitterrand as their role model adopted his ideology that a stone under water can never become a fish and they make life unbearable for foreigners in their countries. Even if you are well established and respect the country’s immigration protocols you can always be embarrassed at will either through legislative framework or social chaos which put foreigners always at the loser end. As a Nigerian living in Diaspora I can authentically say that this barbaric act of xenophobic attacks is not limited to South Africa. Though, South Africa may have gone too far but the reality is that it happens across Africa. In many African countries that I know foreigners especially Nigerians are always the targets in the countries social mischiefs. Citizens blame their failure on the spirit of entrepreneurships of Nigerians. Nigerians shops and houses are being looted during political fracas and nothing happen. We have seen policemen assist their countrymen to loot Nigerians in African countries and with the slogans, go back to your countries……., go…….
The painful issue here is why xenophobic attacks on Nigerian in South Africa? South Africa of all Nation(. This could have been unbelievable story if I have not witnessed Nigeria’s effort to South Africa during the apartheid. This brings the credibility of African Union into questions. Should I say a fail of leadership or a fail of the Union. This obnoxious attitude happened at very period when a South African citizen Dr Nkosazana Dlamini ZUMA was leading Africa Union as its Chairperson. It gives me a lot of food for thought of what Union for the African people. With all the contents in African Union Charter which promote people’s rights and allow Africans to live and work in any country of his or her choice provided he or she abide by the internal regulations of the host country, you need to travel and see.
I think African leaders must engage in rigorous dialogues to stop this madness and avoid embarrassments to the continent. African Union Headquarters

Executive Chairman, Warri North LGA, Hon. Eyituoyor Francis Maku
The Itsekiri ethnic nationality has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently intervene in the 2017 Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) budget which did not include any specific Federal Project in Itsekiri communities in the distribution of the NDDC projects in the Niger Delta area.
The Itsekiri Communities staged a peaceful protest to the Commission’s office in Warri, Delta state on Thursday, March 30, 2017.
The aggrieved Itsekiri people therefore vowed to resist the continuous oppression and exclusion of the Itsekiri nation in the distribution of projects, which has led to the under development of the communities despite their massive contribution to the country’s revenue.
The Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area, Chief Francis Maku in a statement made available to Blank NEWS Online through his media aide, Mr Lucky Atu, lamented that “an ethnic nationality that is contributing over eighty percent (80%) resources to the Federal Government coffers cannot be said not to have a single project from NDDC while the chunk of projects are distributed to communities that offer little or nothing to the nation’s revenue.”
Chief Francis Maku said, “Good governance means good relationship between the government and the governed. It is only the respect for our human rights that would change our stand on this issue but not tactical deceit and arm twisting.
“There are sufficient issues plaguing us as a people and we cannot seat and watch deprivation of this magnitude before our very eyes. The Itsekiri people believe in justice, fairness and equity, hence this appeal to the relevant authorities and the National Assembly.
“Nigeria is one and some communities cannot claim to be more Nigerian than others. The hijacking of Federal projects to some quarters will steer up strife which can still be avoided at this stage.”
He insisted that the purpose of establishing the Niger Delta Development Commission has been defeated because the people for whom it was established are now victims instead of beneficiaries.
Chief Maku however called on Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari, the budget office and the National Assembly, including the Chairman Senate ccommittee on NDDC and his counterpart in the House of Representatives to urgently look into the ugly trend with a view to finding a lasting solution for the peace and overall development of the nation and the Niger Delta region.
Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Albert OGRAKA:
Ethnocentric chauvinism may have played out at the Delta State House of Assembly, Tuesday, March 28, 2017 when the legislature uniliterally approved the appointment of Barr. Aghoghovia Otto as the new Deputy Clerk, amidst claims by the legislative staff that the appointee is inexperienced and not yet qualified to hold such office.
The confirmation of Aghoghovia followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owefere, seconded by Hon Oboroh Preyor and adopted.
The statement titled, Appointment as Deputy Clerk to the State Assembly, read in part: “I write to communicate to you the decision of the Assembly at its sitting on Tuesday March 28, 2017, approving your appointment as Deputy Clerk to the Delta State House of Assembly.
“This is in exercise of its powers as provided in the constitution setting up the body. The appointment takes immediate effect from the date of announcement.”
Some staff of the Assembly who craved anonymity, urged the leadership of the House of Assembly to always abide by the laws they enact, arguing that their action on the appointment of the Deputy Clerk runs contrary to the same laws enacted by them.
Facts made available to Blank NEWS Online stated thus: “Rule 36 of the standing orders of the House provides for the most senior legislative officer to act in the absence of Clerk and Deputy Clerk.
“The House of Assembly Service Commission law, Section 13 provides for the appointment of Clerk and Deputy Clerk by the Speaker and principal officers subject to confirmation of the House.
“The Deputy Clerk, accordingly must not be less than 14 years in experience and must not be below Grade Level 14.
“Therefore, Otto Aghoghovia who was employed effective March 01, 2004 has been erroneously appointed, despite the clear facts that he is not qualified.”
The Speaker, Mr. Monday Igbuya was alleged to have deliberately arm twisted the leadership of the legislature to undermine laid down laws by foisting one of his cronies and tribesman, who was s the Speaker sister’s son on the House, even when the said Otto Aghoghovia did not meet the requirements.
Unfortunately though, the emergency plenary which was summoned by the Speaker without intimating most vibrant members of the House, however caused a stir and angst among some members who held on to doing the right and lawful thing.
According to another staff, “Aghoghovia, a Grade Level 13 officer had other senior management staffs on Grade Level 14 as stipulated by law but Mr. Aghoghovia an Urhobo man from the Speaker’s Senatorial Zone was favoured.”
“A most qualified person for the position of Deputy Clerk is Dr. Ebi F. Waboke, a Director in the House of Assembly from Delta South Senatorial District but the Speaker’s kinsman, Mr. Aghoghovia from Delta Central Senatorial District was said to have been most favoured because some senior management staff who come from Delta North Senatorial District , whose senatorial district was originally zoned for the said position could not put their house together to take their slot.
“This plot has been on for over two years now. They have now carefully hatched it. The House leadership had deliberately ignored the appointment of a Deputy Clerk for two years despite the hues and cry by the entire staff of the Assembly. The Speaker is good at dishing out flimsy excuses because of his personal interest”, a management staff lamented.
Mr. Aghoghovia until his new appointment was an Assistant Director. He shall succeed Mrs. Lynar Ochulor when she finally completes her tenure as Clerk of the House.

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –:
Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Delta State Police Command have mounted a manhunt for one of the Princes in Idumuje-Ugboko community in Aniocha North local government area, for allegedly defiling a 14-year old Princess in the palace.
The suspect, who is currently on the run, allegedly perpetrated the act, which was reportedly covered up by eminent persons in the palace. In addition, the persons who allegedly conspired to cover up the case, are now wanted by the police.
Police sources revealed that following a petition written by one Prince Walters Eziashi, alleging that the act was brought to the knowledge of members of the royal family, who concealed the act and took the girl to St Joseph’s Hospital Asaba for treatment, police have spread their dragnet to catch the principal culprit and others.
According to the source, one of the suspects arrested over complicity in the matter, confirmed that the matter was resolved within the royal family.
According to police sources, Prince Mbanefo Nwoko, told the police to their amazement that the 14-year old consented to the rape hence the matter was “settled” in the palace, adding that “Police now suspect that Mbanefo and others have a case to answer for their complicity in attempts to cover the rape”.
The source told the police that the initial suspect, who was set up through the conspiracy involving Prince Nonso, Princess Uzor Nwoko, Princes Obiajulu, Ejimofor and Kachi Nwoko was fined four goats and other traditional items, to appease the gods and cleanse the palace.
But facts have emerged that the man who was fined is different from the suspect who committed the crime.
The police source told the press that several attempts made to arrest all the suspects were resisted by armed youths in the palace, who threatened violence and to burn the police van, adding that the only one suspect arrested so far was the outcome of reinforcement by the police.
“We are still looking for the suspects to answer charges of alleged group rape of the 14-year old girl”, the police source said.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPR0), Mr. Andrew Aniemeka, when contacted, confirmed that police were still investigating the case and making efforts to arrest the principal suspect.
He said police will inform the press of the outcome of the investigation at the end.
Meanwhile, activities in Idumuje-Ugboko have nosedived as women embarked on series of protests by women over the Idumuje-Ugboko royal stool.
Fear and apprehension now characterized Idumuje-Ugboko community in Aniocha North local government area, as the women group of contending parties in the Obiship stool last week took the streets and invoked curses against perceived opponents.
The development has forced many indoors, thus affecting social and economic activities in the town.
The community was factionalized after the death of His Royal Majesty (HRM) Obi Albert Nwoko 111, following the emergence of two contenders to the throne, namely Chukwunonso Nwoko and Uche Nwoko.
Reliable palace source revealed that as a result of continue stiff opposition, princes loyal to the crown prince, Prince Chukwunonso Nwoko, summoned some women from the royal family and push them to the streets to rain curses on those opposing the installation of Nonso Nwoko as successor to the throne.
“Some of the women did not know why they were summoned but were compelled to join others in the procession to curse those opposing Nonso”, another source said.
However, as early as 6 am the next day, opposing women from the royal family also mobilized others and women form Umuologbo royal family on a retaliatory mission.
It was gathered that the women matched round the palace and other streets, identifying some opponents and also invoking curses on them, indicating that if steps are not taking, the kingdom will break down into anarchy as opposing groups gear up for confrontation
Since the development last week, indigenes are now keeping to themselves and social and economic activities are being affected as they refuse to relate with one another on the strength of the curses.
“As it stands, every Idumuje-Ugboko person is now cursed depending on whether you are supporting Nonso or supporting Uche as their respective supporter’s rain curses on each other. Only those on the fence will escape the curse in this ancient kingdom”, a community chief told the press.
The immediate past President General of Idumuje-Ugboko Development Union (IUDU), Prince Walters Eziashi, confirmed the story, accusing some palace urchins of being responsible for the protests.
He expressed the belief that the protests were an off-shoot of the lingering kingship tussle and the arrest of one of the Princes for the offence of compounding felony due to his involvement in mediating in a case of rape involving a Prince and a 14-year old girl in the palace, recently.

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Albert OGRAKA: Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe, Delta NUT boss
Following the No Work, No Pay order of the Delta state government and the propagandist posture of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), the state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe has insisted that those giving directives to teachers to resume school despite the ongoing industrial strike action, lacks the jurisdiction to do so.
According to the state NUT boss, “Only the Union right to suspend or call off the strike not an association like ASUSS please. Teachers are ready to fight for their rights no matter the threat or intimidation from any quarter.”
The NUT boss, however warned the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) to desist from its propaganda, hence they are not a registered trade union but an association. “They cannot usurp the powers of a registered trade union. They are still members ofNUT and don’t have the powers to direct Secondary school teachers to resume work.”
Recall that Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State had in a statement made available to Blank NEWS Online directed Teachers and Principals of Public Secondary Schools in the state to resume normal classes with effect from Monday, March 20, 2017, without fail.
He claimed that “The continued “sympathy” strike by Secondary School Teachers, in the state, in solidarity with their Primary School counterparts is quite unreasonable and uncalled for.”
He therefore ordered that “For the avoidance of doubt, the State Government will henceforth apply the policy of “No Work, No Pay” on any school Principal or Teacher who fails to resume work on Monday, March 20, 2017.”
In the same vein, the Central Working Committee of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Delta State Chapter has has in a statement made available to Blank NEWS Online on Sunday, March 19, 2017, directed all Secondary School Teachers in public schools in the State to resume work on Monday March 20, 2017.
Rising from its meeting of Thursday March 9, 2017 and a follow up meeting held on Saturday March 18, 2017 and presided over by by the State Chairman, Comrade Okoh K. C , the Union affirms its earlier stand of not supporting the strike action of March 9, 2017 embarked upon by the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT).
But in all these, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), through its state chairman, Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe has remained resolute and insisted that “Only the Union has the right to suspend or call off the strike not an association like ASUSS please. Teachers are ready to fight for their rights no matter the threat or intimidation from any quarter.”
He warned the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) to desist from its propaganda, hence they are not a registered trade union but an association. “They cannot usurp the powers of a registered trade union. They are still members ofNUT and don’t have the powers to direct Secondary school teachers to resume work.”
Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Albert OGRAKA: Gov. Okowa
In spite of the melodrama of the near agreements, deadlocks and walk-outs from negotiation tables of the Delta state government, the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) may have their fingers burnt in the orgy of industrial strike occasioned by call for accelerated payment of outstanding emoluments and allowances.
Schools in Delta state have remained shut since Thursday, March 09, 2017 when the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta state chapter embarked on an indefinite strike action after accusing the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration of deliberately ignoring the welfare of both Secondary and Primary school teachers in the state.
But a statement of the governor, issued by the Director of Information, Mr. Paul Osahor on Saturday, March 18 and made available to Blank NEWS Online seems to be in a reverse order, despite the myriad of claims by the aggrieved teachers.
The blunt statement which is like a sledge hammer reads:
“It is hereby announced for the information of the general public, particularly Deltans, that His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State, has directed Teachers and Principals of Public Secondary Schools in the state to resume normal classes with effect from Monday, March 20, 2017, without fail.
“It will be recalled that at the enlarged meeting between the State Government and Labour Unions chaired by the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, it was evident that the State Government had met all its salary obligations to public servants (inclusive of Teachers in Secondary Schools and Technical Colleges employed under the Post Primary Education Board).
“The continued “sympathy” strike by Secondary School Teachers, in the state, in solidarity with their Primary School counterparts is quite unreasonable and uncalled for as matters concerning Promotions and Inter Cadre Transfers, have been approved and implemented by the State Government, through the Post Primary Education Board. This is in line with Government avowed commitment to the welfare of Teachers in the State.
“This ill-timed and ill-conceived strike action is particularly worrisome, considering the fact that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) will commence on Monday, March 20, 2017.
“Accordingly, the State Government will not tolerate strike actions that would jeopardise the smooth conduct of teaching and learning in public schools in the State. For the avoidance of doubt, the State Government will henceforth apply the policy of “No Work, No Pay” on any school Principal or Teacher who fails to resume work on Monday, March 20, 2017.
“All Secondary School Students in the State are by this announcement, enjoined to resume normal school activities on Monday, March 20, 2017. Chief Inspectors of Education (CIEs) and Heads of Zonal Offices of the State Post Primary Education Board are to ensure strict compliance with the State Governor’s directive. School Principals are to keep daily records of staff attendance and transmit same to the Post Primary Education Board Zonal Offices.”
Meanwhile, the state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe is yet to react to the new directive of the state governor.

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Albert OGRAKA: Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Chiedu EbieComrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe, Delta NUT boss
The Delta state Commissioner for Secondary and Basic Education, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, has expressed optimism that the ongoing strike action embarked upon by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta state chapter, would soon be called off, as government is mindful of their demands.
Meanwhile, the striking teachers who entered into negotiations with the state government on Thursday, March 09, 2017 insisted that the strike action was still on since the state government has refused to give education its priority attention.
Ebie who spoke to Blank NEWS Online shortly after the meeting with the leadership of the Union in Asaba, said he was optimistic that teachers would soon go back to classes because some of the issues raised by the teachers were being tackled.
“We met with them for about four hours and I believe that we have trashed out some of the issues. There may be one or two but we made passionate appeal to them and to consider their position. They promised to go and meet with their members and get back to us.”
On his part the state Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe, told Blank NEWS Online that:
“Our position as a Union would be made known until we have called our members for a meeting. I am just the Chairman and not the one that took the decision. The decision to embark on indefinite strike action was taken by the State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) of the NUT on the basis of the challenges that were listed.
“If I must be frank, it was all appeal on the part of the government, most especially on the aspect of the salaries and arrears. But as good the appeal may sound, an appeal also that we should accept 81 percent for the next three months. We are talking about December salaries, not even February.
“We understand there is recession. I think the problem of the government is priority. Prioritize your issues in order of their importance but they see the Primary school or the educational sector as unimportant. That is why those who have received their February salaries in full, are pleading with as important as the educational sector, that the Primary school teacher should accept 81 percent for December salary.
“We have not taken a position. I don’t have the mandate to go and take a position because I am not the decision making body. I have gone for negotiations, the outcome of the negotiation would be passed on to my members. Then in that very meeting the body that took the decision, its also their responsibility to reverse the decision if they are satisfied with government promises or aspects of the issues. The strike continues until next week when we have called a meeting of our members and brief them before we know the next line of action.”
The NUT boss, however warned the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUS) to desist from its propaganda, hence they are not a registered trade union but an association. They cannot usurp the powers of a registered trade union. They are still members ofNUT and don’t have the powers to direct Secondary school teachers to resume work.
Recall that the State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) suspended its earler strike action on September 09, 2016 but on Thursday, March 02, 2017 resolved to resume the suspended strike action on Thursday, March 09, 2017.
The resolve by teachers in Delta state to shut down both Primary and Secondary schools is contained in a Communique signed by Comrade Jonathan Jemirieyigbe (State Chairman), Comrade Elder Joe Iyalekhue (State Secretary) and Comrade Okogba A. L. (Publicity Secretary).

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Albert OGRAKA:
It may take the gods to decide who becomes king among two contending heirs to the vacant throne in Idumuje Ugboko kingdom in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, as the Nwoko hereditary royalty is presently facing challenges that may throw the sleepy, ancient kingdom into a theater of war.
Blank NEWS Online can disclose that the royal family of Nwoko, traditional chiefs and kingmakers in Idumuje Ugboko are now divided over the rightful choice for the vacant stool of Obi of Idumuje-Ugboko, following the demise of the king and former occupant, Obi Albert Nwoko III, early this month.
But while 18-year old Prince Uche Nwoko, a final year secondary school student, is gaining popularity as a rightful choice, a section of the palace has installed Prince Justin Chukwunonso Nwoko as king, thus generating what community watchers described as a set back to the customs of the people as the requisite formalities and notification of relevant authorities were not followed.
Blank NEWS Online learnt that while the war rages between the camps of Prince Nonso and that supporting Prince Uche, the palace has been virtually deserted as indigenes await the outcome of the war, while the Traditional Rulers Council in Aniocha North Local Government Area will begin investigation into the matter on Saturday.
Those in support of Prince Uche are holding him out as more qualified because his both parents are from Idumuje-Ugboko.
“Any crowning should wait until after the three months burial rites for the late king. A desecration of the tradition occurred when Nonso was put on the stool by only one man as against the six required by tradition”, a family member told journalists.
The family source said “that protests against this were shoved aside by “Prince Mbanefo Nwoko”, who insisted that Nonso should sit on the stool the same night that the Obi passed on. The haste is simply to frustrate the young prince who is in command secondary school in far away Ebonyi State”.
The source recalled that a notable professor in the family, Prince Somayina Nwoko, who died late last year had raised an alarm more than a year before he died, in his now famous write up in which he unequivocally stated that Nonso was not qualified to be king. The late professor will be turning in his grave to see what Nonso is doing to force his way into the throne.
It was learnt that fearing for the safety of the young prince his lawyers are asking that he be made a ward of the court”
“By the standing order and rule in Idumuje-Ugboko, the said Prince Justin Chukwunonso Nwoko is not qualified to succeed to the throne of Obi of Idumuje-Ugboko”, Mr. Ikhide Ehigheliua Esq, of Ikhide Ehighelua and Co., Asaba, wrote in a petition to the chairman of Aniocha North Local government area, on behalf of Prince Uche and others.
The petitioners alleged that Prince Nonso has many impediments against him, including that his mother is not from Idumuje-Ugboko kingdom as prescribed by the tradition, but from Ubulu-Uku, adding that he is currently standing trial in the Magistrates’ Court, Asaba, for the alleged offence of forgery and conspiracy in case number CMA/420c/2016 Commissioner of Police Vs Chukwunonso Nwoko and two others.
The petitioners also cited other cases in addition to a case of false information against him in police case file number CR: 17/2017, alleging that he is of unsound mind, having suffered from a mental problem as an early stage of his life when he suffered brain fag leading to his withdrawal from the University of Benin.
They called on relevant authorities to ensure that Prince Uche is presented, installed and crowned as the Obi of Idumuje-Ugboko kingdom.
The Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Mr. Chuks Oseme, in an interview, confirmed the kingship tussle in Idumuje –Ugboko, saying that he received the petition and that the Traditional Rulers Council, Aniocha North chapter, will investigate the issue on Saturday.

These are people where there be nobody, he preaches to chair, to tell you the extent of zeal. And you find out when ministries that are growing up, when they see people like this, they get hold of them quickly. And we that own them, we don’t give them place to utilize that which God has given to them. When I saw him, I have been watching. I said, ‘Is this not my boy?’ And let me be very sure. They were members of my prayer band. Hmm, ready to explode this year. There is a place here. There is a place for you here. Run no more. There is a place for you here. There is a place for you here. There is a place for you here! You will occupy. God will advertise you in the name of Jesus.”

He also disclosed that in a bid to ensure speedy trial of kidnappers, six special courts have been created in Delta State.
Governor Ifeajyi Okowa made the disclosure on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 when the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 5, Mr Adamu Abubakar paid him a familiarization visit in Asaba.
According to the governor, “we are aware that all over the country today, the issue of kidnapping is becoming a challenge; there is no doubt that in this state, we are tackling the challenge.”
“A lot of kidnappers have been arrested and I have been informed that six special courts have been created by the Chief Judge to try kidnappers who have been arrested,” he said, adding, “such was done to ensure a speedy trial because, we have a robust law to deal with issues that concern kidnapping and those who assists them.”
On the issue of herdsmen menace, Governor Okowa observed that it was a national challenge that requires national solution, noting that the Police was doing a lot in checking criminal activities in the state.
While assuring that his administration would continue to support the Police and other security agencies in the state, Governor Okowa reiterated, “for effective check on criminal activities, it is important for the government to have good relationship with the Police which we are doing.”
The AIG who was accompanied by top Police officers, including the Commissioner of Police, Delta state Command, Mr. Zanna Mohammed Ibrahim, told the governor that he was on familiarization tour of the state, observing that Governor Okowa’s reputation of assisting the Police to carry out their functions was legendary.
He however appealed for structures to be erected for the Police at the buffer zone in the Aladja/Ogbe-Ijaw communities to ensure that the area is secured.
Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Albert OGRAKA: Governor Ifeanyi Okowa
Against the backdrop of clamour for the general overhaul of his cabinet and complaints that the state executive council is composed of persons regarded as square pegs in round holes, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has effected a minor cabinet reshuffle.
Although some Deltans see it as unnecessary and instead calling on the governor to exercise more political goodwill by allowing his government to have “human face”, rather than the present sole administrator’s posture, others see it as a welcome development due to alleged gross inefficiencies displayed by most of the appointed commissioners.
Meanwhile, a few political pundits say “the major change and overhaul may come sooner or later”, saying his action is “a test of the political waters.”
The move by the governor, according to an anonymous government house source, has created a seemingly palpable fear among members of the state executive council, especially the non performing ones and those who are presently having some grey issues.
A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Delta State, Mr. Charles Aniagwu and made available to Blank NEWS Online</stronto on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 reads:
"In a bid to fully realise the administration's SMART Agenda, Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle in three ministries.

“… if the state government decides to seat and allow blackmailers to have a field day, then the result might not be good for the state….I am a man of peace….I have met the the SSG and adviced him. I am saying this because I have not seen the result of that advice.” Uduaghan speaking
Patron of the South South zone of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and former Governor of oil and gas wealthy Delta state, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan has cleared the air on the widely reported N700 billion debt profile he was alleged to have left for his successor to inherit, saying the claims were false.
Although the former governor did not specify the actual amount he left behind in the government covers, he revealed that: “Somehow the N700 billion has been coming down because at a time, the Ministry of Finance said it was N355 billion and at another time they gave another fighure of a little above N200 billion. It is still coming down”, he enthused.
Speaking further in Pidgin English, he said: “E never reach where I leave am. E go soon reach where I leave am but e never reach. If you people bother to read my handover notes, una go know where I leave am’.
The immediate past Governor, who was Chairman at the 2017 Delta NUJ Media Week and PUBLIC LECTURE titled “GOOD GOVRRNANCE, JOURNALISTS AND THE SOCIAL MEDIA” on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the Labour House in Asaba, told dignitaries and participants that: “Even when the state government has tried to correct it, people still refer to that initial figure of N700 billion till today.”
Uduaghan noted that negative news stories are overwhelming decent news stories on the social media because the social media is accessible to everyone and gives them the opportunity to air their views positively or negatively.
“First, it provides a forum for everybody to air anything in your mind. The good, the bad and the ugly. But the result of that is that the ugly seems to be overtaking the good and the bad.
“So we have a lot more ugly post in the social media than posts that are acceptable. It has the advantage of being fast but that speed also sometimes can be disappointing because once a wrong information goes into the social media, it is very difficult to retrieve it. Even when you are able to retrieve or correct it, sometimes not more than 10 percent of the people who read the first wrong mesage will agree with the second message. 90 percent of the people will still be going forward with the wrong message.”
According to Uduaghan, “I am sure all of you know that by the time I left, Governor Okowa went to the House of Assembly to make a presentation and of course the next headline was that “Governor Uduaghan has left N700 billion debt in Delta state”, and that story is still trending till date. I requested for the governor’s speech to see if he said that but there was no where in that speech where the governor mentioned it. But somehow, either his media aides or some people just made it up. I had an option to counter the information outrightly but I decided to be quiet about it. There were so many ramifications, the governor was just coming in, that was his first outing, then I counter his first outing, it has its own challenges but I decided to be quiet about it.”
Particularly worried about the preponderant activities of blackmailers who write unsubstantiated petitions against individuals in Delta state, the former governor who claimed to have been a victim, however urged the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration to nip it in the bud to avert security breach in the state.
“Blackmailing has now become a big profession, especially in Delta state. People are now eating with it, building houses with it and buying cars with it. And everybody is becoming a victim of blackmail. It is very unfortunate.
“Let me appeal to the state government that sometimes, the activities of blackmailers can lead to very serious security problems and challenges. I am saying this with all responsibility and if the state government decides to seat and allow blackmailers to have a field day, then the result might not be good for the state.
“I am a man of peace. I managed this state for eight years and I ensured that there was peace in Delta state and I will not be party to anything that will bring insecurity to Delta state. And if I perceive that my action might bring insecurity to Delta state, I will also advice the government. I have met the the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and adviced him. I am saying this because I have not seen the result of that advice.”
In an apparent response to erstwhile Governor Uduaghan’s claims and in defence of the state government, the Commissioner of Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, said the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration has zero tolerance for blackmail and would never encourage the menace.
“We don’t encourage blackmail as a government because if you encourage them, they will turn around to blackmail you tomorrow.
“The menace in the social media is being felt by everybody in the state because non professional are allowed to take over the media space”, Ukah added.
Speaking before the arrival of Governor Okowa, his deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, had in an address, observed that, “At the moment, the social media is very much like leaving an automatic rifle in the hands of a five-year old with all the danger that it portends not only to the child but to his immediate family and the society at large,” Barr. Otuaro said. Okowa speaking
The governor, who came directly to the occasion at 01:30 pm on his arrival from an official engagement in Abuja, noted that it was important for government to cooperate with the media to move the country forward, pledging “We will continue to do the best we can to support the press” but affirmed that “There are good journalists and there are those who want to misinform Nigerians.”
Delivering a lecture on the topic, “Journalists, Social Media and Good Governance,” former Governor of Edo State, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, asserted that the role of the media in ensuring good governance is enshrined in section 32 of the Nigeria constitution.
Prof. Osunbor noted that the obligation of ensuring good governance must not rest on the journalist alone but should be a collective responsibility of every citizen, adding that one way of achieving this now is through the social media.
Also, the National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Comrade Waheed Odusile who was represented by NUJ Vice-president Zone F South-South, Mr. Edward Akpati-Ogude, said the national body of NUJ has intensified efforts in the fight against quackery in the journalism profession, adding that the fight was tailored to check cases of junk journalism and blackmail, pointing out that the union was currently investigating some cases.
Earlier in an address, the Delta State Chairman of NUJ, Comrade Norbert Chiazor, disclosed that the Delta State NUJ under his leadership had trained about 40 journalists- Deltans and non Deltans in the prestigious REUTERS News Agency in London, United Kingdom and also the union have partnered with different organizations to hold series of seminars.
Comrade Chiazor who expressed his appreciation to the former and present state governors for developing the NUJ Secretariat to an appreciable level, noted that his tenure is blessed with the monumental achievement of the building of the Delta State NUJ Press Center.

The group added that;”The Federal Government and members of the National Assembly are working very hard to ensure the take off of the University and restore peace to the Niger Delta region, yet Dr. Dakuku who is from the region and expected to encourage the whole process is making unguided statement regarding the funding of the University. According to the group;”We should all support the take off of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko. Nigeria will be the first to have Maritime University in West Africa if the Nigerian Maritime University is allowed to take off. The United States Consul general in Nigeria, John Bray was impressed with what he saw at the temporary site of the Nigerian Maritime University when he visited on Tuesday, January 31,2017 and this is why the likes of the NIMASA boss, Dr Dakuku should join hands with others to see that the dream of establishing the University true the effort of one man, Tompolo is realized”.

Nigeria (Blank NEWS Online) –By Albert OGRAKA: Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, addressing Journalist, during the Governor’s 2017 quarterly media interaction in Asaba.
Despite the huge number of recorded accidents and deaths on the Asaba/Ughelli road, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has appealed to Deltans to bear with his administration over the non execution of the abandoned Section C of the road, explaining that the contractor handling the section is presently engaged working on the runaway project at the Asaba Airport.
Okowa said the road dualization project would not be given any attention until the contracting firm, ULO completes the runway project at the Asaba Airport.
The Section C road project, spanning between Asaba and Kwale, which was awarded to Chief Uche Okpunor’s ULO Construction firm by the erstwhile Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan administration has not received any attention since it was awarded to the contractor.
The abandoned road project has caused a lot of vehicular mishap and nearly 100 deaths, prompting Deltans who are commuters and motorists to appeal to the state government for urgent intervention. One of such recent accidents claimed the lives of about 30 persons, including a Church Priest on the Ibusa/Ogwashi-Uku axis of the abandoned road project.
The hope of the road users, however was dashed when Governor Okowa, at a quarterly media interactive session with journalists in Asaba on Tuesday, February 07, 2017, told Deltans to exercise patience, as the contractor, ULO, who abandoned the the Section C road project, is presently executing the failed runaway project at the Asaba Airport which fell short of the specified standard of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
According to the Ministry of Aviation then, the safety concerns were over undulations on the airport’s runway, the lack of the required strip, perimeter fencing, drainage, as well as lack of adequately trained technical personnel, leading to the eventual downgrading of the Asaba Airport.
Meanwhile Deltans had complained about the dangerous pot-holes at Ibusa (first junction from Ogwashi-Uku), Ogwashi-Uku and other bad portions of the road, leading to automobile accidents.
Recall that the Section B of the Asaba – Ughelli road project was completed under the Uduaghan administration while the Sector A faces funding challenges, which Governor Okowa confirmed that monies have been released to Wokson Nig. Limited, the contracting firm for Section A to enable them return to site.
As a result of incessant road carnages and in a bid to fast-track the haphazard construction of the 149 kilometres Asaba/Ughelli road, the former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan ordered the state Ministry of Works to terminate section C of the project and re-award the contract to a competent contractor.
But to the chagrin of Deltans, Okowa, on resumption of office, Governor Okowa released the sum of N5 billion to Chief Uche Okpunor, the CEO of ULO Construction, despite his antecedent in executing shoddy jobs after collecting huge advance payments.
Notable among ULO failed contracts are the abandoned Section C of the Asaba/Ughelli road, the non motorable Maryam Babangida road, the fails runway at the Asaba Airport which led to its downgrading and the New Government House where the incident of falling tiles was recorded, which almost caused media embarrassment to the state governor.
Also, the Delta State House of Assembly, had during the 2013 budget defence by ministries and parastatals, directed the ministry supervising the dualization of the Asaba-Ughelli road project to recover the mobilisation fee paid to the contracting firm handling Section “C” of the project for non-performance.
It was alleged that the firm had converted the mobilisation fee paid it by Delta State Government for equipment procurement but Blank NEWS Online source disclosed that the state Ministry of Justice was already processing the documents towards the recovery of the fee.

He is not in hospital. He is in the residence at the Nigerian High Commission.
“He and his delegation were ready to come home yesterday but for the delayed test
result which came in yesterday necessitated that he delays his return. There is nothing to worry about as far as his condition is concerned.”

But a closed-in source has confirmed to Blank NEWS Online that James Ibori was picked up by officials of the Diepartment of State Security (DSS) for a friendly chat with the DG in Abuja.
He is said to have arrived Nigeria via the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja in the early hours, and would later fly to the southern port city of Warri in Delta state.
He would be received at the airstrip by supporters and sympathisers who have lined up to welcome him back.
“A chartered private plane will fly him to Warri and he will land at Osubi airport where he would be received by both well wishers and sympathizers. For now, it is going to be a quiet ceremony. An elaborate reception will be organised later for him at Oghara, his hometown,” said Ighoyota Amori, a former political adviser to Ibori.
Also, Ibori’s media aide, Tony Eluemunor, also confirmed his arrival, saying only: “He is in town. I will keep you posted later.”
Meanwhile, parts of Delta state, especially Oghara in Ethiope West local government area, Ibori’s home town is agog as preparations have been put in place to give him a rousing state welcome, Chairman of the council, Hon. Ejaife Odebala has said .
Ibori, 57, who was governor of the oil-rich Delta state between 1999 and 2007 was released in London in December after serving over four years of a 13-year jail term in the UK.
Ibori was jailed in April 2012 for fraud amounting to nearly 50 million pounds (at the time $78.5 million/62 million euros) following a drawn-out extradition procedure and his evasion of arrest and prosecution in Nigeria. He had fled to Dubai in 2010, from where he was extradited to Britain.
Opinions are however, divided in Nigeria itself about whether Ibori should face a fresh trial on his return given the strong anti-corruption stance of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He is said to have influenced the election of the current Delta state governor and other politicians during his time in prison.
