Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved the 2025 bursary awards for Delta State students in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education and student welfare.

The approval also covers scholarship awards for students with disabilities and children of deceased civil servants, as well as financial assistance for Delta State students in the Nigerian Law Schools.

The Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Dr. Godfrey Enita, disclosed this on Thursday, February 12, 2026, during a meeting with the national executives of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU).

Dr. Enita explained that the governor’s gesture was aimed at easing the financial burden on students and their families, particularly in the face of prevailing economic challenges.

He noted that the meeting was convened following concerns raised by the students over the delay in the 2025 bursary payment.

He assured the student leaders that the state government remains committed to fulfilling its obligations and disclosed that the board had commenced processing payments for the approved bursaries and scholarships.

He added that the financial assistance earlier approved by Governor Oborevwori for Delta State students at the Nigerian Law Schools was also being processed.

According to him, a total of 33,064 students will benefit from the 2025 bursary awards. In addition, 545 children of deceased civil servants and 51 students with disabilities will receive scholarship awards, while 533 Law School students will benefit from the special financial assistance package.

Dr. Enita reiterated that the Oborevwori administration places high premium on education as a critical pillar for sustainable development and human capital advancement in the state.

Responding, the NADESSTU national executives, led by President, Comrade Oweiotu-Ebi Joseph, and Senate President of the Association, Comrade Idiseru Alex, welcomed the development and expressed appreciation to the governor for his continued support to Delta State students.

They described the approval as timely and impactful, noting that it would go a long way in reducing the financial strain faced by many students and their families.

Onuachalla calls for party discipline, proper communication within APGA

0

By Sunny A. David, Onitsha

The Secretary of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Hon. Paul Onuachalla, has emphasized the urgent need for discipline, institutional respect, and effective communication within the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), particularly between party managers and grassroots stakeholders.

Onuachalla, a pioneer member of APGA in Anambra State, made his position known on Wednesday in a statement titled “The Need for Party Discipline and Respect for Stakeholders,” which was made available to newsmen in Onitsha.

He was reacting to a publication authored by Mr. Onunkwo Kizzito, a State officer of the party in Onitsha South LGA. The publication, which was circulated across several WhatsApp platforms, reportedly announced the cancellation of a previously scheduled stakeholders’ meeting without prior consultation or official communication with the affected local government leadership.

According to Onuachalla, the publication accused Onitsha South stakeholders and the Mayor of the Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Emeka Joseph Orji, of “indiscipline.” He described the allegation as unfounded and procedurally flawed.

“My attention has been drawn to a publication by Mr. Onunkwo Kizzito, a State officer of our great party, circulated across several WhatsApp groups,” Onuachalla stated. “It is important to clarify that this publication first appeared on the New APGA Interactive Platform at about 5:26 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, and was personally posted by the author. Notably, Rt. Hon. Emeka Joseph Orji did not participate in the stakeholders’ meeting held on February 9, 2026, at the Onitsha South Local Government Council Headquarters.”

Providing further clarification, Onuachalla confirmed that a stakeholders’ meeting had been duly scheduled for February 9 at the council headquarters in line with party guidelines. However, he noted that, at the eleventh hour, rumours began circulating via WhatsApp messages claiming that the meeting had been cancelled.

He argued that the purported cancellation lacked legitimacy, as there was no formal communication from the party hierarchy to the Local Government leadership, the Mayor, or LGA party executives confirming such a decision.

“There is no evidence that the source of the purported cancellation represented the official position of the party. No written directive, no formal notification, and no structured communication were issued to the host Local Government or its leadership,” he said.

Onuachalla further disclosed that additional rumours later emerged suggesting possible manipulation of the process. According to him, no clarification was provided by party officials to dispel the confusion or properly guide stakeholders.

“In the absence of clear direction and in order to prevent a leadership vacuum at the grassroots, the Onitsha South stakeholders were compelled to invoke the doctrine of necessity and proceed with their recommendations,” he explained.

He maintained that the stakeholders’ actions should not be misconstrued as defiance or indiscipline, but rather seen as a responsible response to a communication breakdown by party managers.

Onuachalla stressed that political parties thrive on structure, consultation, and mutual respect, warning that unilateral decisions and reliance on informal communication channels undermine internal democracy and weaken institutional cohesion.

He called on party leaders at all levels to strengthen internal communication mechanisms, respect established procedures, and recognize the strategic importance of grassroots stakeholders in sustaining party unity and electoral success.

According to him, the situation in Onitsha South clearly reflected a breakdown in communication between party managers and local stakeholders.

“A simple two-line notice on party letterheaded paper, duly signed and dated by an authorised officer, would have effectively addressed the fears and confusion of stakeholders,” he said.

He added that the manner in which the cancellation was communicated demonstrated little regard for stakeholders and showed disregard for the office of the Mayor, who was the official host of the meeting.

The cancellation, he noted, came after extensive preparations had already been made, resulting in public embarrassment to the people of Onitsha and to the Mayor, who had committed significant resources toward hosting the event.

“It is both sad and disheartening that in a structured political organisation, where the Mayor is not only a critical stakeholder but also a major supporter of the party, the office could be treated with such neglect,” he stated.

Under the circumstances, Onuachalla said party managers should show responsibility by tendering an apology to aggrieved stakeholders whose confidence had been shaken by the belated cancellation.

He also observed that the same publication announced the disqualification of Dr. Emeka Anienonam, leaving the party with only three qualified candidates to join the incumbent in the next stage of the process.

According to him, such information was not too sensitive to be formally and transparently communicated to stakeholders, rather than being casually introduced through an informal publication.

“Party discipline is a two-way obligation,” he said. “While stakeholders must remain loyal to party structures, party managers must equally respect stakeholders, uphold clear communication, and act in a manner that strengthens unity rather than breeds resentment.”

Reaffirming his stance, Onuachalla referenced the governor’s guiding principle: “If it is not written, it does not exist,” noting that he strongly aligns with that position.

POWER GENERATION: Oborevwori Laying Foundation for Industrial Growth In Delta — Aniagwu

Delta State Government, Wednesday, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is deliberately positioning the state for accelerated industrial growth through sustained investment in power generation, leveraging the recent constitutional provision granting states greater control over electricity.

The State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this during the visit of the State Economic Management Team to Sapele Power Plc in Ogorode, Sapele, Sapele Local Government Area.

He stated that the governor’s move to expand the state’s energy capacity reflects a clear strategy to drive industrialisation, attract investors, and create employment opportunities in line with his MORE Agenda.

“Energy is the bedrock of industrialisation. When Governor Oborevwori came on board, he recognised that to attract industries and create jobs, we must expand our capacity in power generation and distribution”, Aniagwu said.

He disclosed that the administration reviewed previously acquired turbines and equipment stored in Oghareki, Ethiope West Local Government Area, which had remained idle for years.

He said: “Rather than sell them off as scrap for about ₦3 billion, the governor opted for a long-term investment approach aimed at generating sustainable revenue and boosting electricity supply.

“Following feasibility studies conducted in collaboration with the Delta State Investment Development Agency (DIDA), the Ministry of Energy, and the Office of the Chief Economic Adviser, the state entered into a partnership with Sapele Power Plc to refurbish and integrate the equipment into the plant’s operations.”

Aniagwu revealed that the facility, which already produces over 1,020 megawatts of electricity, is set to inject an additional 120 megawatts into the national grid upon completion of the refurbishment.

“The new capacity will come from two 60-megawatt Rolls-Royce Trent 60 Generating Turbines being installed at the plant. Instead of taking quick money and forgetting the future, the governor chose to invest for generations yet unborn,” he said.

Continuing, he said: “Today, we are talking about injecting 120 megawatts into the national grid. That is a wise and profitable decision that will benefit Delta State and the country in the long run.”

He added that beyond increasing electricity supply, the initiative is already generating employment opportunities and facilitating technology transfer, as local engineers and technicians participate in fabrication and installation processes.

Commissioner for Energy, Engr. Michael Anoka, described the development as impressive, noting that Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated strong commitment to meeting the energy needs of Deltans.

He expressed confidence that the additional power capacity would substantially address energy demands and support industrial expansion.

Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Dr. Barry Gbe, who led the team, described the investment as a calculated and strategic move under the new electricity law, which allows greater state participation in power generation and distribution.

Gbe disclosed that the state has constituted a committee, working with consultants, to liberalise the electricity market, encourage more players in generation, distribution, and metering, and ensure affordable power for businesses and residents.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Delta State Investment Development Agency (DIDA), Chief Lucky Oghene-Omoru, said the initiative has converted a previously dormant asset into a value-generating investment for the state and commended Sapele Power Plc for its commitment to indigenous technology, cost reduction, and job creation.

In his remarks, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Sapele Power Plc, Mr. Valentine Ashinze, lauded Governor Oborevwori for his foresight and assured that the company would support the administration’s vision of industrialising Delta State.

The visit by the State Economic Management Team highlighted the administration’s integrated approach to development, linking infrastructure, energy expansion, and investment promotion as part of efforts to position Delta State as a hub for sustainable industrial growth.

DSC Roundabout Flyover Nears Completion as Delta Govt Conducts Pre-Handover Inspection

The Delta State Government on Monday conducted a pre-handover inspection of the DSC Roundabout Flyover in Effurun, marking another significant step towards the completion of one of the state’s flagship urban infrastructure projects.

The inspection was led by the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, alongside a high-powered and multidisciplinary government delegation that included the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Barr. Val Arenyeka; the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Mr. Tuoyo Abigor; the Functioning Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Engr. Solomon Aghagba; the Technical Assistant to the Governor, Engr. Bob Nakpodia; senior engineers from the Delta State Ministry of Works; as well as representatives of the contractor, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc.

Addressing journalists during the exercise, Comrade Izeze explained that the visit was a pre-handover inspection aimed at assessing the level and quality of work already executed on the flyover before the final inspection and eventual takeover of the project by the state government.

“This visit is to enable us carry out a pre-handover inspection of the DSC Roundabout Flyover and see the level of work that has been done so far. The flyover aspect of the project is about 98 per cent completed.

“We were invited by the contractor to make our observations now, so that any issues identified can be addressed ahead of the final inspection and formal handover,” Izeze said.

He noted that the inspection team moved from the Agbarho end of the flyover through to the Effurun axis, carefully examining the structure and associated works.

According to him, the government team expressed satisfaction with the quality of construction and adherence to specifications.

“From what we have seen, we are satisfied with the level of work done so far. We expect that by the time we return, based on the contractor’s invitation, the project would have attained 100 per cent completion,” the commissioner added.

Although not directly under his ministry’s mandate, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Barr. Val Arenyeka, underscored the strategic importance of the flyover and adjoining road network to Delta State’s agricultural value chain.

He said improved road infrastructure would ease the movement of food produce from major farming communities to urban markets.

“Delta State is a major producer of food, and infrastructure like this flyover and the connecting roads are critical. Areas such as Ughelli, Abraka and other hinterland communities are key food-producing zones.

“This bridge will significantly ease traffic and enhance the transportation of agricultural produce to the city, ultimately supporting food availability and affordability,” Arenyeka stated.

The agriculture commissioner also highlighted ongoing efforts by his ministry to scale up food production across the state through public-private partnerships.

He disclosed that the state currently has over 2,000 hectares of vegetable farms in Orerokpe, about 3,800 hectares dedicated to cassava cultivation in another axis with attached processing facilities, and more than 132 hectares of rice under dry-season farming in Aviara, Isoko South Local Government Area, a first in the state with plans to expand further.

On his part, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Mr. Tuoyo Abigor, affirmed that the flyover was almost fully completed, with only minor finishing works outstanding.

“As you can see, the road is almost 100 per cent complete. What remains are minor additional works, such as street lighting, which is a separate project.

“The flyover is already open for public use, and the quality of work here is of the highest standard. The project is progressing strictly in line with the plan,” Abigor said.

The DSC Roundabout Flyover is expected to significantly decongest traffic in Effurun and its environs, improve safety, and enhance economic activities by facilitating smoother movement of people, goods and services across the metropolitan area.

Senator Nwoko’s Early 2026 Empowerment Drive: Medical Outreach, Economic Empowerment, JAMB Registration

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

At the dawn of 2026, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, made a firm commitment to deepen his impact on the lives of his constituents through strategic empowerment initiatives. Shortly after the Senate’s first sitting in the new year, he articulated his vision for purposeful leadership and people-centered

in 2026.

In his words: “As the representative of Delta North, I remain dedicated to ensuring that the voices of our people are heard and that their needs are met. This year, my focus will be on driving development, empowering our youth, and building lasting progress for Delta North and Nigeria. True leadership is measured by results, not words, and together we can turn challenges into opportunities and create a legacy of growth and prosperity.”

This declaration was not merely a ceremonial statement. It’s a working blueprint for his legislative and constituency engagements throughout 2026. In the few weeks that followed the statement, Senator Nwoko has translated these words into concrete actions through a series of impactful empowerment programs across Delta North.

1. Medical Outreach in Ibusa and Agbor: Bringing Healthcare Closer to the People

One of the hallmark initiatives of Senator Nwoko in 2026 was the large-scale medical outreach conducted in Ibusa (Oshimili North) and Agbor (Ika South). This program directly reflected his commitment to ensuring that the needs of the people are met, especially in critical areas such as healthcare.

The outreach provided free medical consultations, health screenings, laboratory tests, and essential medications to hundreds of residents. Qualified medical professionals attended to patients suffering from common ailments such as hypertension, diabetes, malaria, and eye conditions. Special attention was also given to maternal and child health.

For many beneficiaries, this outreach represented their first opportunity in years to receive professional medical care without financial burden. Beyond treatment, the program also emphasized health education, encouraging residents to adopt preventive healthcare practices.

Through this initiative, Senator Nwoko demonstrated his resolve to turn leadership into service by improving access to quality healthcare at the grassroots.

2. Empowerment of Over 500 Youths and Women in Asaba: Building Economic Independence

In fulfillment of his pledge to empower young people and promote sustainable development, Senator Nwoko organized a comprehensive empowerment program for over 500 youths and women across Delta North. The event, held at Hotel Benezia in Asaba, marked a significant milestone in his economic empowerment agenda.

Participants received business start-up materials, and financial support to help them establish or expand their enterprises. Beneficiaries were drawn from the nine local government areas of Delta North.

The program also featured capacity-building sessions on financial literacy, business management, and entrepreneurship ethics. This ensured that beneficiaries were equipped not only with resources but also with the knowledge required for long-term success. By investing in youths and women, Senator Nwoko reinforced his belief that development is driven by productive and self-reliant citizens.

3. Free JAMB Registration for 1,500 Students: Investing in the Future of Delta North

Consistent with his commitment to building lasting progress through education, Senator Nwoko made a commitment to sponsor free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration for 1,500 students from Delta North.

This initiative is aimed at removing a major financial barrier that often prevents talented students from pursuing tertiary education. Many families who would have struggled to afford the registration fee have been relieved of this burden, enabling their children to compete fairly for admission into higher institutions.

The program also served as a source of motivation for students, encouraging academic excellence and reinforcing the value of education as a pathway to personal and societal advancement.

Through this intervention, the Senator invested directly in the future leadership and intellectual capital of the district.

From Promise to Performance: Leadership Measured by Results

These three empowerment projects that opened up the year 2026 for Senator Nwoko stand as a clear evidence that Senator Ned Nwoko’s leadership is guided by action rather than rhetoric. His early-year declaration that “true leadership is measured by results, not words” found practical expression in his healthcare, economic, and educational interventions.

Each program was carefully designed to address pressing community needs while promoting long-term development. Together, they reflect a governance style rooted in accountability, empathy, and strategic vision.

A Legacy of Purposeful Leadership

Senator Nwoko’s early 2026 empowerment initiatives present a compelling model of people-oriented governance. By aligning his actions with his stated vision, he has demonstrated integrity, consistency, and dedication to public service.

From improving access to healthcare and fostering economic independence to expanding educational opportunities, his interventions continue to transform lives across Delta North. These achievements not only validate his promise at the beginning of the year but also reinforce his reputation as a leader committed to building a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient society.

Delta Prioritising Primary Healthcare, Not Just Flyovers — Onojaeme

The Delta State Government has dismissed claims that it is concentrating on flashy infrastructure at the expense of grassroots healthcare, insisting that primary healthcare remains a central pillar of the Oborevwori administration’s development agenda.

Reacting to recent comments by popular health influencer, Aproko Doctor, who suggested on social media that politicians focus on flyovers and ultra-modern hospitals while neglecting primary healthcare centres, the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, said the assertion does not reflect the situation in Delta State.

According to him, while roads and flyovers are visible symbols of development across the state, healthcare has consistently received deliberate and strategic attention under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

“That is not true in Delta State. While roads and flyovers are visible across the state, healthcare has always been a major priority of this administration,” Onojaeme said.

He disclosed that within two years, the Oborevwori administration has renovated 150 primary healthcare centres across the three senatorial districts out of the state’s 441 health facilities, with an additional 150 centres already being scoped.

According to him, this will bring the total number of renovated primary healthcare centres to 300, significantly improving access to quality healthcare at the community level and reducing pressure on general and tertiary hospitals.

The commissioner noted that the state’s free maternal and under-five healthcare programme has continued to record positive outcomes, including a steady reduction in maternal and infant mortality and a significant easing of financial burdens on families.

He revealed that Governor Oborevwori recently approved the release of ₦2 billion to sustain the programme, alongside the regular release of funds to strengthen Universal Health Coverage in the state.

Onojaeme also said state-owned hospitals have been granted full autonomy to retain and utilise 100 per cent of their internally generated revenue, enabling them to promptly procure drugs, maintain equipment, and respond more efficiently to patients’ needs.

In the area of specialised care, he disclosed that dialysis machines have been acquired and inaugurated across state hospitals, reducing waiting times and expanding access to treatment. He added that dialysis costs have been reduced from about ₦70,000 to ₦45,000 per session.

The commissioner further stated that CT scan machines installed at Warri Central Hospital and Delta State University Teaching Hospital (DELSUTH), Oghara, are already improving the speed and accuracy of diagnosis for cancer, stroke, and internal injuries, while newly procured echocardiography machines are strengthening early detection and management of heart-related conditions.

To expand access to advanced diagnostic services, Onojaeme said the state government has ordered three MRI machines for installation at the Asaba Specialist Hospital, Central Hospital Warri, and DELSUTH Oghara, ensuring that all three senatorial districts will have access to high-end medical imaging.

“While some states do not have a single MRI machine, Delta State is procuring three at once. Delivery is expected by April, as site preparations are already ongoing,” he said.

Beyond infrastructure and equipment, the commissioner disclosed that the state government is establishing a new College of Health Sciences at Ovrode in Isoko North Local Government Area to complement the existing institution at Ofuoma and boost the training of middle-level health manpower.

He added that the long-abandoned Mother and Child Hospital in Ekpan is nearing completion, while another Specialist Hospital is being developed in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area, modelled after the Asaba Specialist Hospital.

“Delta State remains the only state in the country with over 60 functional, government-owned hospitals, and this administration is only getting started,” Onojaeme said.

On health insurance coverage, the commissioner highlighted the achievements of the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme, noting that enrollment has surpassed 2.78 million residents as of January 2026, making it the leading state-supported health insurance programme in Nigeria.

He said the scheme covers both formal and informal sector workers and prioritises vulnerable groups through the Equity Health Plan, including pregnant women, children under five, and the elderly. Recent expansion efforts, he added, include the enrollment of 10,000 widows and the ongoing registration of indigent residents.

To enhance efficiency and transparency, Onojaeme said the Delta State Contributory Health Commission has introduced facial recognition technology at accredited healthcare facilities.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Oborevwori administration to achieving Universal Health Coverage, stressing that the government remains focused on delivering affordable, accessible, and quality healthcare to all Deltans.

Jubilation As Oborevwori Inaugurates Model Technical College, Omadino

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has described technical and vocational education as one of the most effective tools for tackling youth unemployment in the country, noting that graduates would emerge as skilled professionals, entrepreneurs and employers of labour rather than job seekers.

Governor Oborevwori made the remark on Monday during the inauguration of the newly completed Model Technical College, Omadino, Warri South Local Government Area of the state, describing the institution as a flagship investment in technical and vocational education by his administration.

He said some achievements were better appreciated when seen rather than spoken about, stressing that within two years, his administration had delivered landmark projects without borrowing or imposing additional burdens on the people of Delta State.

“Even I am often amazed at how much we have been able to achieve within two years without borrowing and without burdening the people. This project we are commissioning today is a clear example of prudent management. Contractors were paid promptly, and that is why delivery was timely,” the governor said.

Oborevwori disclosed that the college commenced academic activities before its formal commissioning, a development he said demonstrated the readiness and full functionality of the facility.

According to him, the institution represents another major milestone in the advancement of technical and vocational education in Delta State.

He said the Model Technical College, Omadino, reflected clarity of vision, strategic planning and disciplined execution, pointing to its internal road network, administrative blocks, classrooms, workshops and laboratories as clear evidence of the administration’s commitment to quality education.

The governor commended his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for initiating the project, adding that his administration ensured its completion to the required standard.

He said: “Today, I am pleased to see a beautiful and solid edifice standing proudly. We give God all the glory. Any student, lecturer or staff member would be proud to be associated with this institution”.

He also praised the quality of training being imparted at the college, citing the confidence, articulation and composure displayed by a student who spoke earlier at the event as evidence of effective teaching and learning.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that modern educational infrastructure played a critical role in fostering a conducive learning environment, improving student performance, enhancing teacher effectiveness and instilling pride within the school community.

“With the high-quality facilities provided here, I am confident that students of this college can compete with the best anywhere in the world. All workshops and laboratories are fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities,” he added.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education in line with the MORE Agenda, the governor assured Deltans that government would continue to upgrade educational infrastructure across the state to ensure access to complete, functional education and globally relevant skills.

He, however, appealed to the management, staff, students and host communities to ensure proper maintenance of the facilities, stressing that government property represents taxpayers’ commonwealth and must be protected from vandalism and neglect.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Technical Education, Mr. Smart Ufoh, described the Omadino Model Technical College as far more than a modern technical school, calling it a bold statement of purpose and a symbol of transformation.

Facilities within the institution include 12 classrooms and nine fully equipped workshops to enhance learning and skills acquisition. Residential and welfare infrastructure comprises two hostel blocks, staff quarters, a principal’s lodge and a corps members’ lodge, ensuring a conducive environment for both students and staff.

The complex also features a dining hall, clinic and a spacious school hall, alongside recreational facilities including a football pitch and basketball court. Complementing these are essential support structures such as a generator house and operational quarters, underscoring the institution’s readiness for effective teaching, learning and administration.

Ufoh disclosed that academic activities commenced in September 2025 with the admission of Junior Technical One students to ensure that the sophisticated facilities did not lie idle or fall into disrepair, adding that the response from Omadino community and beyond was overwhelming.

In his remarks, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Hon. Weyinmi Agbateyiniro, expressed deep appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for his impactful leadership and numerous development projects in Warri and across Delta State.

He described the commissioning of the Model Technical College as a landmark achievement, alongside major infrastructure such as the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges, extensive road networks, drainage systems that have addressed perennial flooding and the near-completed Warri Modern Stadium.

Agbateyiniro praised the governor’s fairness, inclusiveness and people-centred governance, noting that in less than three years, development projects had reached every senatorial district, Federal Constituency, local government and community in the state.

He said the people of Warri South were firmly behind the governor and confident in his leadership ahead of 2027.

Also speaking, the Olu of Warri, HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, thanked Governor Oborevwori for his commitment to the development of riverine communities and urged him to sustain and expand investments in schools, bridges, roads and jetties across riverine areas of the state.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Miss Courtney Omotoyine described the commissioning as the fulfillment of a long-held dream and a major step toward securing the future of young people in Delta State and Nigeria, urging students to utilize the facilities responsibly and strive for excellence.

Dignitaries at the event included the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor; Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbegbaku; Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere; and Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeze Somtochukwu, among others.

Oborevwori Creating A New Delta-Cleric

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been described as a divinely ordained leader whose people-centred governance and deliberate institution-building are laying a solid foundation for a new Delta State anchored on sustainability and long-term transformation.

The commendation came from the Paris Priest of St. Williams Catholic Church, Orerokpe, Rev. Fr. Peter Awharemuire, during the 70th Thanksgiving Mass of Lady Doris Onoriode Ejinyere, which the Governor attended as a special guest.

Delivering a homily based on Jeremiah 29:10–14, Rev. Fr. Awharemuire said Governor Oborevwori’s emergence as the state’s Chief Executive was neither accidental nor incidental, but part of a divine plan.

“Your leadership was ordained by God long before your birth. What we are witnessing in Delta State today is the unfolding of God’s purpose. Leadership is not by power or might, but by the Spirit of God,” the cleric declared.

He said the visible progress recorded across critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, security and community development was evidence of divine guidance and purposeful leadership.

“Confidence has been restored. Communities are safer and lives are being protected. These are not coincidences; they are fruits of focused and intentional leadership,” he added.

According to the priest, the Oborevwori administration stands out for its emphasis on sustainability, noting that the Governor is not merely executing physical projects but deliberately building enduring systems.

“This Governor is not just constructing roads, bridges, hospitals and schools; he is building systems in security, education, infrastructure and governance. That is why we say he is creating a new Delta,” Rev. Fr. Awharemuire said.

He stressed that the ongoing transformation was designed to benefit not just the present generation but future ones.

He said; “What is being built today is not for a few individuals, but for the entire Delta State and generations yet unborn”.

Describing Governor Oborevwori as a man of uncommon courage, the cleric said the achievements of the administration had already secured a permanent place in the political history of the state.

“You are a juggernaut in the political history of Delta State. What you have done will remain written. History will not forget it,” he declared.

Rev. Fr. Awharemuire added that both the Church and the people of Delta State were proud of the Governor’s leadership, which he said was defined by humility, justice, inclusiveness and service.

Speaking further, the Cleric said; “the Church is proud of you. The people of Delta are proud of you. We see a leader who listens, who builds and who believes in justice”.

While commending the Governor’s strides, the priest advised him to continue to lead with wisdom, humility and caution, assuring him of the Church’s continued prayers for divine guidance and peace in the state.

He also offered prayers for the celebrant, Lady Doris Ejinyere, whom he described as a just and fair-minded woman.

In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori congratulated Lady Ejinyere on her 70th birthday, describing her as a woman of integrity, strength and unwavering commitment to family and service of the state.

“She is someone I have known for many years, through different seasons of life and service. She is upright, principled and dependable. Yes, she is firm, but that firmness is rooted in sincerity and love,” the Governor said.

He expressed joy at seeing the Ejinyere family gathered in unity and thanksgiving, noting that the celebration reflected the enduring power of faith and strong family bonds.

The Governor prayed for her continued blessings, long life, good health and peace, while acknowledging her sacrifices and lifelong dedication to her family and community.

Speaking during the service, Lady Ejinyere expressed profound gratitude to her family, friends and well-wishers for their love, care and support over the years.

She paid special tribute to Governor Oborevwori, saying his achievements were so evident that “even the blind can see them and the deaf can hear them,” and praised his compassion, sacrifices and steadfast support to her family.

Izeze Hails Ekedayen at Birthday, Describes Him as Pillar of Economic Insight, Leadership

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has paid glowing tribute to the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, on the occasion of his birthday, describing him as an outstanding technocrat, dependable colleague and a refreshing influence within the Delta State Executive Council.

In a heartfelt birthday message on Saturday, Izeze reflected on his long journey through leadership, public service and mentorship, noting that while he had encountered many towering personalities from Uvwie and beyond who shaped his life and career, Ekedayen’s impact in his post-50 years has been particularly profound.

According to Izeze, Ekedayen possesses a rare blend of urbane sophistication, intellectual depth and practical compassion, which often leads to misconceptions about his political and economic orientation.

He stressed, however, that beneath Ekedayen’s refined exterior lies a progressive thinker with a clear, people-centred understanding of economics anchored on societal needs rather than rigid conservatism.

“Bros Sunny Ekedayen brings clarity to governance through a well-defined economics-of-needs template,” Izeze said.

“He is deeply grounded in his professional calling and in human relationships, making it easy for colleagues to relate with him, learn from him and trust his judgment.”

The Works Commissioner described Ekedayen as a globally acknowledged financial expert and a “guru of economics,” whose contributions within the State Executive Council have been invaluable.

He noted that Ekedayen has often played the role of a steadying influence and elder brother, offering guidance, support and coordination, particularly among Urhobo commissioners, without seeking personal attention or creating discord.

Izeze further praised Ekedayen for his humility and emotional intelligence, saying that in an environment often marked by inflated egos and superficial intellectualism, the Economic Planning Commissioner stands out as a breath of fresh air.

Beyond public service, Izeze highlighted Ekedayen’s rich multicultural identity and personal qualities, describing him as a devoted family man, a lover of classic music, and a dependable confidant whose calm disposition brings balance during challenging moments.

He concluded by praying for Ekedayen’s continued good health, wisdom and greater accomplishments in the years ahead, expressing gratitude for his service to colleagues, Uvwie, and the people of Delta State.

“May the glory of your latter years be greater than the former,” Izeze said. “Thank you for all you do for us, for Uvwie and for Deltans. Enjoy your day sir.”

Delta Govt Restates Timely, Quality Delivery of Road Projects …Warns Against Illegal Speed Breakers

The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the timely delivery of durable and high-quality road infrastructure across the state, warning communities and contractors against the indiscriminate installation of illegal speed breakers on public roads.

The State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, gave the assurance during an inspection tour of ongoing road rehabilitation and construction projects in Ughelli South and Udu Local Government Areas.

Izeze, who was accompanied by engineers from the Ministry of Works, said while speaking at the

13-km Ekakpamre–Ekrokpe–Usieffurun–Orhuwhorun Road rehabilitation project that the intervention was designed to significantly reduce travel time and improve connectivity for residents, particularly those commuting between Orhuwhorun, Usieffurun and Ekakpamre.

He explained that although the project, awarded in June 2024, had recorded appreciable progress, it was confronted with some challenges, especially drainage issues caused by an existing natural water channel within the corridor.

“This is another important project designed to ease movement and reduce travel time for our people. It is a 13-kilometre rehabilitation, and while work so far is commendable, some challenges still exist. We have taken note of them and will present them to His Excellency in Asaba,” Izeze said.

According to him, resolving the drainage concerns was critical to ensuring the long-term durability of the road, particularly during the rainy season.

“We need an effective discharge system to properly channel floodwaters. We are hopeful that these issues will be addressed so that the road will stand the test of time. We have also urged the contractor to increase the pace of work to enable asphalt laying before the rains fully set in,” he added.

On the Effurun–Otor/Iwhrekekan–Ughevwughe–Eruemukohwaren–Otor-Edo–Usieffurun Road project in Ughelli South, the commissioner disclosed that about 4.2 kilometres of drainage works had been completed, with the project now awaiting the wearing course and the installation of some concrete slabs.

He expressed concern over the slow pace of work along the Ughevwughe axis but noted that the contractor had since returned to site.

“That project has taken longer than expected, but we are pleased that the contractor is back on site. We are optimistic that the asphalt overlay will be completed within the next couple of months,” Izeze said.

He added that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori would be briefed on the need for approval of additional remedial works to ensure that communities such as Otor-Edo fully benefit from the project.

“We want the people of Otor-Edo to feel the impact of this administration. Our engineers are closely monitoring the work, and the contractor is operating within the provisions of the BEME. We expect the project to be completed in the next two months,” he stated.

The commissioner also issued a strong warning against the unauthorized erection of speed breakers, particularly on newly rehabilitated roads.

He disclosed that the ministry would soon commence a public sensitisation campaign, in collaboration with state-owned media, to educate residents of Orhuwhorun, Usieffurun, Ekrokpe and adjoining communities on the need to obtain official approval before installing speed breakers.

“Fixing speed breakers on any road requires the approval of the ministry. Anyone who, on their own, installs a speed breaker without authorisation will face consequences,” Izeze warned.

He stressed that illegal speed breakers not only increase travel time unnecessarily but also pose safety risks to road users, adding that any speed breaker installed by a contractor without approval must be removed.

“If a contractor installs speed breakers during construction without the ministry’s permission, it is the contractor’s responsibility to remove them,” he said.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Obakpor Engineering, the construction firm handling the project, Mr. Ricardo Oguma, said the work had been challenging due to the densely built-up nature of the communities and intense human activities along the corridor.

He explained that some speed bumps were installed at busy junctions to moderate traffic flow, noting that the road serves as a major route within the area.

“Our total drainage provision is about 750 metres along the 13-kilometre stretch, which is what was captured in the project, and we have completed it,” Oguma said.

He also commended the host communities for their cooperation, describing the level of support received as “one hundred per cent.”

The inspection, Izeze said, reflected the Oborevwori administration’s resolve to deliver people-centred infrastructure projects while upholding quality standards, safety and value for money across Delta State.

The Wife of the Delta State Governor and Founder of the You Matter Foundation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has flagged off the Delta State Measles–Rubella Vaccination Campaign, describing it as a critical investment in the health, safety and future of children across the state.

The campaign, which was officially launched on Thursday at Government House, Asaba, is scheduled to run until February 9 and will cover all communities across Delta State.

Speaking through the Wife of the Deputy Governor, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme, at the flag-off ceremony, Deaconess Oborevwori said the exercise was more than a routine health programme, describing it as a deliberate effort to protect families from preventable diseases and strengthen public health outcomes in the state.

“We are gathered not only to launch a vital public health initiative, but also to reaffirm our collective commitment to a healthier, safer and more secure future for the children and people of Delta State,” she said.

Deaconess Oborevwori noted that measles and rubella, though preventable, remain highly contagious and dangerous, particularly for children, with the potential to cause severe complications such as blindness, deafness and even death if not properly addressed.

She said, “The good news is that these diseases are entirely preventable through vaccination. By vaccinating our children, we are strengthening the health security of Delta State and contributing meaningfully to a healthier Nigeria.”

According to her, the Measles–Rubella vaccine will be administered to children aged nine months to 14 years, while routine immunisation services will be provided for children aged zero to 23 months.

She explained that providing children with timely and complete immunisation was a long-term investment in human capital and sustainable development, adding that the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to quality healthcare delivery remains unwavering and a core pillar of the MORE Agenda.

“By giving our children these vital protections, we are investing in their future and giving them the opportunity to live long, healthy and fulfilled lives,” she said.

She further emphasised that the initiative aligns with the MORE Agenda of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration, which places premium value on accessible and quality healthcare for all Deltans.

“This initiative reflects the administration’s unwavering resolve to prioritise the health and well-being of every citizen. It is more than a campaign; it is a vision built on hope, resilience and our belief in the power of collective effort,” she added.

Deaconess Oborevwori called on parents, caregivers, community and religious leaders to actively support the campaign by ensuring that all eligible children are presented for vaccination, while also appealing for cooperation with healthcare workers deployed across the state.

“Together, we can ensure that our children are protected, our families thrive and our communities flourish,” she said.

She also commended the Ministry of Health, the Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency, development partners and frontline health workers for their dedication and commitment to the success of the campaign.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, warned that measles and rubella are dangerous viral diseases capable of causing severe complications, including pneumonia, blindness, deafness and death, adding that rubella poses a serious threat to unborn children through Congenital Rubella Syndrome when contracted during pregnancy.

The commissioner, who was represented by a Director in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Chris Iwegbu, explained that the vaccination exercise would take place at health facilities, schools, churches and community centres across the state.

He assured that with the commitment of healthcare workers and the support of parents and community leaders, no child would be left unprotected, while commending Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritising healthcare under the MORE Agenda.

In separate goodwill messages, representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Efe-Aluta Oniovo; the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Associate Professor Uzochukwu Ofonastasa; the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Mr. Macphison Kenneth; the Nigeria Centre for Well-being and Integrated Nutrition Solutions (CWIN), Venerable Rock Odeka; and other development partners underscored the importance of the Measles–Rubella Vaccination Campaign to child survival and public health security.

The event attracted an impressive array of dignitaries, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu; the Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Mininim Oseji; Honourable Commissioners; wives of Local Government Chairmen; as well as nursing mothers and school children, reflecting broad-based support for the vaccination campaign across all segments of society.

He noted that effective governance remains key to strengthening the institution’s standing as a leading centre of academic excellence in Nigeria and beyond.

Oborevwori Swears In Six Judges, Warns Against Erosion Of Public Trust In Judiciary

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday warned that the erosion of public confidence in the judiciary poses a grave threat to peace, law and order, stressing that when citizens lose faith in the justice system, they may resort to self-help, a situation capable of plunging society into chaos and anarchy.

The governor gave the warning in Asaba during the swearing-in of six newly appointed judges for the Delta State High Court and the Customary Court of Appeal, urging members of the Bench to uphold the highest standards of probity, fairness, courage and impartiality in the discharge of their constitutional duties.

Those sworn in as judges of the Delta State High Court are; Justice Otite Jonah Akpobaro, Justice Jereoma Sam-Oligida, Justice Irene Boeye Ukuli and Justice Otome Benjamin Adamidenyo, while Justice Bridget Onome Ojeikere and Justice Stella Ovuorieroro Okah were sworn in as Justices of the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal.

Governor Oborevwori said the stability of any democratic society rests heavily on a credible, transparent and independent judiciary, noting that justice must not only be done but must also be seen to be done.

According to him, only a judiciary that acts without fear or favour can sustain public trust, guarantee justice for all, and preserve social harmony in the state and the nation.

Speaking further, the governor explained that the appointments were made strictly in line with Sections 271(2) and 281(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empower state governors to appoint judges on the recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).

He disclosed that the Delta State Judicial Service Commission nominated candidates for consideration by the NJC, which carefully screened and approved those found suitable for appointment.

Oborevwori congratulated the newly sworn-in judges, describing their elevation as a vote of confidence in their legal knowledge, integrity, professionalism and discipline.

“As you begin this new journey as privileged members of the Bench, I expect you to uphold the same spirit of hard work, commitment, excellence and high ethical standards that qualified you for this noble office,” the governor said.

He cautioned judges to resist all forms of temptation capable of compromising judicial independence, stressing that during adjudication, it is often the judge, rather than the litigants, who is ultimately on trial in the court of public opinion.

Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the justice delivery system in the state, describing the swearing-in ceremony as another milestone in efforts to build a judiciary that is functional, fast, fair and accessible.

He noted that appointment of the additional judges would help decongest courts, reduce delays and bring justice closer to the people, particularly those in rural communities.

He also outlined several reforms and interventions undertaken by his administration to support the judiciary, including the approval for the construction of judges’ quarters across the state, renovation of magistrates’ and customary courts, and the digitisation of the Laws of Delta State, now accessible on the state government’s website.

The governor further disclosed that virtual court hearing facilities have been installed in High Courts in Asaba and in correctional centres in Warri, Ogwashi-Uku and Sapele, supported by solar installations to ensure uninterrupted proceedings.

He added that plans were underway to introduce automated court recording systems to improve accuracy and speed in judicial proceedings.

Highlighting broader justice sector reforms, Oborevwori said the state had introduced the Delta State Criminal Information System, a centralized digital platform for criminal profiling, case management and offender tracking using biometric data, including fingerprints and DNA.

He explained that the initiative would enhance public safety, accountability and crime prevention, while complementing virtual court hearings conducted directly from correctional centres.

The governor also announced that, for the first time in the history of the state, a career civil servant, Mr. Omamuzo Erebe, Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, attained the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2025, describing the feat as a reflection of the quality of Delta State’s public service.

Responding on behalf of the newly sworn-in judges, Justice Bridget Onome Ojeikere, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his support and respect for judicial independence, pledging that the judges would discharge their duties with integrity and without fear or favour.

The ceremony was attended by top government officials, members of the legislature, judiciary and other stakeholders.

The Governor extended his heartfelt condolences to Wilfred Ndidi, members of the bereaved family, and the people of Umunede, urging them to take solace in the impactful life and legacy of the deceased.

Fmr CDS Gen. Irabor To Deliver Maris Lecture

Since his inauguration into the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko has brought intellect, intensity, and unmistakable presence to national discourse. Representing Delta North Senatorial District, his emergence in the red chambers was driven by the collective conviction of the Anioma people, a people who sought not just representation, but results. That conviction has translated into visible leadership, bold advocacy, and deliberate action.

What distinguishes Senator Nwoko is not only the breadth of his interventions, but the clarity of his purpose. He arrived at the Senate with a defined agenda: to drive legislation that reflects the aspirations of Nigerians while ensuring that his constituency receives focused and strategic attention. He has positioned himself as a serious-minded legislator – vocal, visionary, and unafraid to challenge the status quo.

His influence within the Senate is underscored by the confidence reposed in him through key appointments. From his role as Deputy Chairman of the Committees on Environment and Sports Development, to his current chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, Senator Nwoko has proven himself a thoughtful operator – analytical, pragmatic, and deeply engaged. His motion on the need to investigate crude oil theft in the Niger Delta did not just provoke national reflection, it led to the establishment of an ad-hoc committee which he now chairs, reinforcing his reputation as a lawmaker who moves beyond rhetoric to results.

Beyond official titles and committee roles, Senator Ned Nwoko’s approach to governance reflects a deeper philosophy: that public office must serve, and leadership must listen. Whether on the Senate floor or in the remotest parts of Delta North, he remains present, asking the hard questions, pursuing justice, and insisting on equity. His work across legislative and constituency fronts is driven by an unrelenting focus on the people, backed by a sense of duty that is unwavering.
