Police investigative report indicts DSPG Governing Council for replacing Substantive Registrar with Acting Registrar

From Education Desk

By solely endorsing the suspension of staff and the appointment of an Acting Registrar, there by bypassing institutional norms and “operating beyond his lawful administrative authority”,  the Chairman of the Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic , Ogwashi-Uku, Hon Paul Adingwupu, has been faulted

His Governing Council has also been slammed for acting “ultra vires by pre-empting the outcome of the internal investigative process and exercising disciplinary actions in violation of established due process protocols”.

According to a Police investigative report , titled RE: CASE OF CERTIFICATE FORGERY AND PUBLICATION OF DEFAMATORY MATTER PUNISHABLE UNDER SECTIONS 484 AND 375 OF THE CRIMINAL CODE LAW , CR: 22/ 2025, dated 3rd July 2025 and endorsed by the Commander , Eagle Net Special Squad of the Delta State Police Command of the Nigeria Police Force , SP Inusa Danyaya, the Council Chairman Adingwupu, when summoned by investigators , refused to make any statement , citing the pendency of a court case and asserting that he was under no obligation to comment on a matter that was sub-judice .

The petition , which was sequel to a formal criminal complaint lodged before the Delta State Commissioner of Police , on 21/02/2025 , by the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi-uku, represented by its Deputy Rector , Dr Joy Erere Anho, alleged multiple offences against Rufai Oseni , principal suspect Nduka Charles , and others , ranging from certificate forgery and defamatory publication ( against Oseni), , among others

In it’s findings , the Police , in the investigative report with Reference No AB: 4099/DTS/ENSS/VOL 2/98, stared in it’s conclusions /recommendations , that “upon critical evaluation of the totality of evidence adduced , it is unequivocally concluded that a prima facie case exists against the suspects , Temienor Ogaga Agomataye, Nduka Charles , and otter accomplices presently at large for multiple criminal infractions , including conspiracy , certificate forgery/ making documents without authority , official corruption, abuse of office ….these offences contravenes, and are punishable under the provisions of Sections 516 A, 467, 473, 98(a), 104, 404 and 474 of the Criminal Code Law”

Furthermore, the investigative report therefore recommended that “the aforementioned suspects be arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction for diligent prosecution”, while concerted efforts be made to apprehend other fleeing suspects involved such as Armstrong, Agofure, and Collins, who were explicitly implicated by the principal suspect, Nduka Charles

Meanwhile , the suspects have been arraigned before an Ogwashi-Uku high Court presided over by Hon Justice Okpu, and remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional centre

Senator Ned Nwoko, reveals that Oko–Patani Road is officially captured in NDDC budget

Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has confirmed that the long-overdue Oko–Patani Road has been officially captured in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) budget.

The senator made this known on his Facebook page after the 25th anniversary celebration of the NDDC in Port Harcourt. The celebration brought together prominent leaders and stakeholders from across the country.

He congratulated the commission, the board led by Mr. Chiedu Ebie, and the entire leadership team for reaching a significant milestone and commended the ongoing reforms and renewed energy within the organization.

In his remarks, Senator Nwoko expressed optimism about the future of infrastructure development in the Niger Delta, describing the inclusion of the Oko–Patani Road in the budget as a promising step.

“The proposed Coastal Road linking Asaba to Patani, now captured in the NDDC budget, is a bold, necessary, and entirely doable project,” Senator Nwoko said. “The Oko–Patani segment, in particular, is of strategic importance to communities in Delta North, and its inclusion signals a real commitment to addressing years of infrastructural neglect.”

For years, residents of the Oko in Oshimili South axis have faced serious challenges due to poor road conditions, particularly during the rainy season when some areas become impassable.

The senator noted that the road, once completed, will unlock economic potentials, improve access to essential services, and enhance regional integration.

Senator Nwoko also used the occasion to call for sustained political will and inter-agency collaboration to ensure that captured projects are not only funded but also executed to completion.

“The journey to a more developed Niger Delta continues,” he added. “We must all remain committed to turning budget lines into visible, life-changing infrastructure on the ground.”

The NDDC was established in 2000 with the mandate to facilitate the sustainable development of the oil-rich Niger Delta. The commission’s recent reforms and its renewed emphasis on legacy projects have drawn optimism from both lawmakers and local communities.

PresidentTinubu will inscribe name in history as he supports creation of Anioma state

A public affairs analyst, Fred Akpewe, has said that President Bola Tinubu will be inscribing his name in the history of national unity, equity and justice as he supports the creation of Anioma state.

According to Akpewe, the creation of Anioma state will affirm his commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and nation-building.

Akpewe, in a statement noted that in the ever-evolving political landscape of Nigeria, legacies are not only built through speeches and policies, “they are carved into history through bold actions that shape the future of generations.

For President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the creation of Anioma State stands as a monumental opportunity to etch his name into the chronicles of national unity, equity, and justice.

“Anioma, a region rich in culture, resources, and human capital, has long yearned for recognition as a distinct state within Nigeria’s federal structure. Despite its historical contributions and strategic relevance, it has remained marginalized in the conversation of state creation.

Now, under Tinubu’s administration, the call for Anioma State has not only gained momentum but has also become a symbol of long-overdue justice for a people whose identity has often been overshadowed.”

He emphasized that “President Tinubu, a seasoned political strategist and champion of restructuring, understands the importance of balancing Nigeria’s diversity with equitable representation.

By endorsing and actualizing the creation of Anioma State, he would be fulfilling the ideals of fairness, inclusivity, and nation-building, principles he has long advocated.

“The creation of Anioma State would resolve long-standing issues of political imbalance in Delta State, address administrative inefficiencies, and empower the Anioma people to fully harness their potential.

More importantly, it would set a precedent for addressing other genuine demands for state creation across Nigeria, thus reinforcing Tinubu’s image as a reformer who listens, understands, and acts.

Dissolve Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku Now, ASUP Tells Delta Govt

From our Education Desk

In what appears to be the climax of the lingering face off between the Management of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South and the institution,s Governing Council, the joint unions , namely Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ( ASUP), SSANlP, and NASU , have called on the State government, to “immediately bring about a lasting solution to the excesses of the current Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, in misconduct, abuse of office , and breach of institutional laws”

In the light of it’s grouses, the Joint unions have issued a 21-day ( 15 working days ) ultimatum to the State Government , through the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari, to look into their demands or risk a full-scale industrial action

In a letter dated 8th July 2025, and addressed to “The Honourable Commissioner , Ministry of Higher Education ,State Secretariat Complex, Asaba, Delta State “, and titled “FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST THE OVERBEARING CONDUCT, LAWLESSNESS AND FINANCIAL RECKLESSNESS OF THE CHAIRMAN AND MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL OF DELTA STATE POLYTECHNIC , OGWASHI-UKU, A 21 DAY ULTIMATUM FOR ACTION”, the joint unions listed ten ( 10) allegations against the Pastor Paul Adingwupu- led Governing Council

The protest letter , signed by ASUP DSPG Chapter Chairman , Michael Ogana, PhD, and Joint Union Chairman , Comrade Ayewumi Andrew , noted that the institution,s Governing Council actions “are not only a violation of the Polytechnic law, but also a grave threat to the institutional integrity and industrial peace within the Polytechnic”

The joint union specifically emphasized the Governing Council,s High handedness and Unilateral decision making , persistent attempts to fleece the institution through questionable approvals and illegal daily council meetings , frivolous accusations of the management staff of financial impropriety without due diligence of investigation, occasioned by the management,s refusal to allow them continually fleece the institution, and concerted efforts to frustrate the recent accreditation of Programmes of the institution , by refusing to approve the statutory funds needed for the exercise , were some of the examples of overreach of the Adingwupu- led Council

Others include the persistent refusal of the Council Chairman and members of the Council to meet with the polytechnic,s union executives in a bid to resolve emanating issues, the usurpation of the functions and powers of the management team of the institution , delay in implementation of staff promotions as a result of the Council,s refusal to assent to the recommendations of the Appointments and Promotion Committee ( A&PC), needless waste of the institution,s resources to engage the services of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria ( SAN), in a matter against a staff, arbitrary issuance of suspension letters with blatant disregard to the due processes of the law , institutional procedures and established regulatory frameworks guiding the Council,s functions , as well as the use of men and officials of the Nigeria Police Force to harass the Rector

Further incensing the joint union , they said “efforts by the union to engage the Governing Council constructively, and draw attention to these excesses, have been met with repudiation, silence and in some cases, retaliation”

The ultimatum also added that its full scale industrial action , if it’s demands are not met ,  will include “the withdrawal of all academic services until justice is served”, emphasizing that it should not be held liable for any disruption arising from the inaction of the authorities concerned

Justice for Ivan was more than a phrase. It became a mission -SENATOR NED NWOKO

On July 13, 2023, a devastating tragedy unfolded in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. It was an incident that not only shattered a young family but also exposed deep cracks in our system of accountability during security operations in Nigeria.

That day, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) stormed a suspected drug joint in the area. In the course of that operation, bullets were allegedly discharged indiscriminately, piercing through walls and structures beyond the target location. One of those bullets struck two-year-old Ivan Onose Omhonrina in the abdomen as he sat innocently in his mother’s shop. His younger brother, Eromonsele, barely a year old, was hit in the eye. Both boys were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), but tragically, little Ivan could not be saved.

The scene was horrific. A family’s safe space, a small business premises, was turned into a zone of blood, anguish, and irreversible loss. The death of a toddler under such circumstances is not only heartbreaking, it is a damning indictment of how we conduct security operations in civilian spaces. Innocent lives should never be collateral damage in the war against drugs or any other criminal activity.

When I received word of this incident, I knew I had to act. Not just as a legislator, but as a father, a citizen, and a defender of justice. I reached out to the grieving family. I saw their pain, their confusion, and their desperation for justice. And I made a promise that I would take their cry for justice to the highest chambers of our legislative system.

Justice for Ivan became more than a phrase. It became a mission.

As the Senator representing Delta North, the very constituency where this tragedy occurred, I formally submitted a petition on behalf of the Omhonrina family to the Nigerian Senate. I documented every aspect of the incident, collaborated with local authorities and eyewitnesses, and ensured that this matter was not swept under the carpet as so many others have been in the past.

The petition was assigned to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, chaired by the distinguished Senator Neda Imasuen. I commend the committee for treating this case with the sensitivity, urgency, and thoroughness it deserved. Their investigation included testimonies, medical reports, eyewitness accounts, and legal consultations in pursuit of truth and justice.

After weeks of deliberations, the committee submitted its report to the full Senate. During plenary, I stood once again to speak on the issue, urging my colleagues to see beyond the numbers and recommendations. To see a child’s life cut short, a mother’s tears, and a nation’s obligation to do better.

The Senate responded with empathy and moral clarity. A minute of silence was observed in honour of Ivan. The chamber grew silent, heavy with the weight of that young life lost. And in that silence, our collective conscience spoke. The Senate unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendation that the NDLEA should pay ₦200 million in compensation to the Omhonrina family.

Let me be clear. No amount of money can bring back Ivan or erase the trauma his family has endured. This compensation is not a price tag on a life. It is an acknowledgement of responsibility, an institutional apology, and a commitment to prevent future tragedies.

This is the power of proactive representation. As the voice of Delta North in the Nigerian Senate, I will never look away when my constituents are in pain. I will always stand for truth, accountability, and justice.

This case is a wake-up call to all security agencies in Nigeria. The conduct of operations must be guided by strict rules of engagement, discipline, and respect for civilian lives. It is unacceptable that in our quest to fight crime, innocent children become casualties of carelessness and excessive force.

I also believe this resolution sets a powerful precedent for other victims of systemic violence and government negligence. It tells Nigerians that justice is possible. That the National Assembly can be a voice for the voiceless. That we will not look away when our people are harmed by the very institutions meant to protect them.

To the Omhonrina family, no words will ever be enough. But I pray this act of justice brings some measure of healing. I pray that Eromonsele recovers fully and grows up in a country where his dignity and rights are respected and protected.

To the NDLEA, I urge full and prompt compliance with the Senate resolution. But beyond this payment, I call on the agency to review its operational protocols, strengthen training, and ensure that engagements with civilian populations are executed with precision, discipline, and care. Let Ivan’s death not be in vain.

Importantly, the officer involved in the fatal shooting of Ivan is currently being prosecuted as part of the broader pursuit of justice and accountability. That process must continue with transparency and fairness.

To my colleagues in the Senate, I thank you for standing on the side of justice. This is what true leadership means. Not merely drafting laws, but intervening when it matters most. Representing not just policies, but people.

To the Nigerian people, I reaffirm my unwavering commitment to justice, human rights, and responsible governance. I will continue to advocate for institutional reforms that protect every citizen, especially the most vulnerable.

Ivan’s short life has left a lasting imprint on my heart, on this nation, and on our conscience.

Justice for Ivan must echo across every corridor of power until the systems that failed him are transformed.

May his soul rest in peace.

May his memory remain a call to action.

And may his legacy help build a Nigeria where every child is safe, protected, and free from fear.

Senate passes Ned Nwoko’s bill to upgrade FCE(T), Asaba to Federal University of Technology, others

The Senate has passed a bill seeking to upgrade the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, to the Federal University of Technology, Asaba, Delta State, alongside four other similar bills aimed at establishing new universities of technology across the country.

The bill for the proposed Federal University of Technology, Asaba was sponsored by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko (APC, Delta North), and its passage marks a significant step toward expanding access to quality, technology-driven higher education in the South-South region.

Also passed were bills seeking to establish: Federal University of Technology, Offa, Kwara State, sponsored by Senator Ashiru Oyelola Yisa and Federal University of Technology, Omoku, Rivers State, sponsored by Senator Harry Ipaligbo Banigo

Others are Federal University of Technology, Odukpani, Cross River State, sponsored by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong; Federal University of Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State sponsored by Senator Adamu Aliero.

Also passed are bills for the establishment of Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, Lagos State, sponsored by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Federal University of Sciences, Deba, Gombe State, sponsored by Senator Danjuma Goje and Federal University of Technology and Vocational Training, Yaba, Lagos State, also sponsored by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele

The Senate’s action followed the presentation and consideration of a report by the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, chaired by Senator Murtari Dandutse (APC, Katsina South).

Presenting the report, Senator Dandutse explained that the bills were earlier read for the second time and referred to the committee for further legislative scrutiny. He noted that the committee held extensive deliberations and consultations before recommending their passage.

Highlighting the objectives of the bills, Dandutse stated that they aim to expand learning opportunities without discrimination and develop academic and professional programs that lead to degrees, diplomas, certificates, and professional qualifications.

During the public hearing for the Asaba bill on May 28, 2025, Senator Ned Nwoko emphasized the urgent national need to bridge regional gaps in the distribution of federal universities of technology.

“The South-South geopolitical zone, despite its immense contribution to Nigeria’s economy—particularly in oil, gas, and manufacturing—does not currently host any Federal University of Technology,” Nwoko stated.

He added that the proposed upgrade would transform an already established institution with a strong technical foundation into a full-fledged university capable of addressing Nigeria’s 21st-century development needs.

“This is a bold step toward innovation, youth empowerment, and long-term national development,” he concluded.

The bill’s passage has been widely hailed as a strategic move to promote technological education and foster regional equity in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.

As global demand for African creativity continues to rise, platforms like this are essential for transforming visibility into viability and turning culture into capital.

Anioma State Not Ned Nwoko’s Personal Agenda, It’s a Collective Cause, By Godfrey Osein

BY GODFREY OSEIN

The push for the creation of Anioma State is gaining momentum, and it should. This is not a new conversation, but the current wave of advocacy, especially led by Senator Ned Nwoko, has reignited national attention on the demand for equity, justice, and fair representation in Nigeria’s federal structure.

However, there is a growing need to correct a harmful narrative: Anioma State is not Ned Nwoko’s personal matter, neither is it to feather his political ambition. It is a legitimate aspiration of the Anioma people, deeply rooted in the region’s history, identity, and place within the Nigerian federation.

Though Ned Nwoko has emerged as a leading voice in this movement, he is not the owner of it. He started from where the founding fathers stopped. He had said it several times that he did not start the fight but gave a caveat, that he would finish the fight.

The creation of Anioma State is not about any one individual, not about political ambitions or personal gain. It is about correcting structural imbalances and ensuring that the Anioma people have a voice and administrative presence that reflects their population and contribution to national development.

It must be clearly stated: Ned Nwoko has nothing personal to gain from the creation of Anioma State. He has openly and consistently declared, across several public fora, that he has no interest in becoming the governor of the proposed state. He has emphasized that his role is purely to advance the cause, using his platform, experience, and access to push a long-overdue agenda. His advocacy is driven by principle and a commitment to the future of Anioma people, not political positioning.

The argument that the Anioma State movement is a personal project of Senator Nwoko is therefore not only false but also dangerous. It attempts to shrink a regional cause into the frame of individual’s ambition, when in truth, it is a broader campaign for equity and justice. This distortion diverts attention from the real issue: the structural imbalance that continues to deny the Anioma region their fair share in the Nigerian equation.

For those claiming that stakeholders were not consulted and that Nwoko is running the movement as a personal project, that’s also a false narrative. It must be stated that everybody important in Anioma land, both political and traditional, has been consulted. Traditional rulers, political leaders, technocrats, youth groups, and other critical stakeholders from the Anioma region were approached for their input and support.

The advocacy has been transparent, inclusive, and rooted in community dialogue. Yet, many remain unwilling to support the movement, not because they question its necessity, but simply because they are not the ones pulling the strings. And since they are not at the driver’s seat or their preferred political leaders not the promoters, it should be brought down.

This is the unfortunate truth. Some people are driven more by ego than by vision. They would rather see the movement stalled than support a cause led by someone else. But this movement is not about personal glory, it is about the Anioma people. It is a disservice to the community, it is a disservice to the rural people who would want a government closer to them, if political rivalry or personal envy overrides collective interest.

Those who are truly committed to Anioma’s future should come forward willingly and support this cause. History is shaped by those who act, not those who sit on the sidelines waiting for the spotlight to shine on them.

Anioma State is already a serious national conversation, not a factional campaign. The movement needs unity, not division. It needs bold voices, strategic alliances, and above all, a people-driven vision. Those who believe in the future of Anioma should focus less on personalities and more on the purpose.

This is not about Ned Nwoko. It is about Anioma. And if Anioma must rise, its leaders, past, present, and future, must learn to put community above self.

Senate endorses Ned Nwoko’s Petition for N200m Compensation to Family of Child killed by stray-bullet in Delta NDLEA Operation

The Nigerian Senate has recommended the payment of N200 million compensation to the family of Ivan Onose Omhonrina, the two-year-old boy tragically killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by an operative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during a raid on a drug joint in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The resolution followed a petition presented by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, the lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District, who has consistently championed justice for the family since the tragic incident occurred on July 13, 2023.

The incident, which sparked widespread outrage and grief across Delta and beyond, occurred when NDLEA officers stormed a suspected drug hotspot. In the course of the operation, bullets pierced through a nearby shop belonging to the mother of the children, striking Ivan in the abdomen and injuring his younger brother, Eromonsele, in the eye. Both were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) for emergency surgery, but sadly, Ivan could not be saved.

Bringing the matter formally to the attention of the Senate, Senator Ned Nwoko, presented a petition on behalf of the bereaved family, and followed it up through all legislative channels until it was taken up by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen.

Following the committee’s investigation and deliberations, the report was submitted to the full Senate. During plenary, on Thursday, senators observed a minute of silence in honour of the deceased toddler before adopting the recommendation that the NDLEA pay N200 million as compensation to the family for the loss and trauma suffered.

ECOWAS COURT DISMISSES REVISION OF JUDGMENT APPLICATION FILED BY NIGERIA

The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS has delivered its judgment in Case No. ECW/CCJ/APP/56/21/REV, brought by the Federal Republic of Nigeria requesting the Court to revise its decision in the case of Gregory J. Todd v Federal Republic of Nigeria in which Judgment No. ECW/CCJ/JUD/41/23 was delivered by the Court on 6 November 2023.

In the original judgment in the case of Gregory J. Todd v Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Court held that Nigeria violated Mr Gregory Todd’s freedom of movement when his passport was unreasonably and arbitrarily seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Court ordered the payment of ten thousand US dollars ($10,000) to Mr Gregory Todd as damages and dismissed all other claims.

In a post-judgment application based on Article 92 and 93 of the Rules of the Court, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, sought a revision of Judgment No. ECW/CCJ/JUD/41/23 on grounds of alleged new facts which came into its knowledge on 5 April 2024, after the Court had delivered its judgment on 6 November 2023. However, instead of providing new fact and its supporting evidence, it stated and elaborated three points of law as grounds for its request for revision:

That the Court acted beyond its legal powers by recognising, Mr Gregory Todd, a foreign national’s human rights application under Article 10(d) of the Protocol of the Court.

That the Court improperly assumed appellate jurisdiction over decisions of Nigerian domestic courts by hearing the human rights application of Mr Gregory Todd.

That Mr Gregory Todd’s human rights application to the ECOWAS Court was inadmissible as the matter had already been conclusively determined by the Federal High Court of Abuja, thereby precluding its re-litigation under the doctrine of res judicata.

On jurisdiction, the Court affirmed it had jurisdiction to hear the matter under Article 27 of the Court’s Protocol (as amended), which grants the Court power to consider applications for revision of its judgments upon the discovery of new facts of a decisive nature.

However, the Court held that that Nigeria’s application for revision was inadmissible as the grounds outlined in the application did not constitute new facts within the meaning of Article 27 of the Court’s Protocol. The Court determined that all the issues raised in the revision application had already been raised by Nigeria in the original proceedings and clearly dealt with in the judgment delivered on 6 November 2023.

Therefore, the Court held that the request for revision had no legal basis, was inadmissible under Article 27 of the Protocol of the Court (as amended) and constituted an abuse of the Court’s post-judgment procedures. The application for revision was thereby dismissed.

The Court: Declared that it had jurisdiction to consider the application for revision of judgment; Found that the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s request for revision was inadmissible; Ordered the Federal Republic of Nigeria to comply with the previous judgment which included the payment of damages awarded against it; Ordered the Federal Republic of Nigeria to bear the costs incurred by Mr Gregory Todd in relation to this application for revision.

The judgment was delivered by a panel comprising: Hon. Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves – Presiding Judge; Hon. Justice Gberi-be Ouattara – Member; and Hon. Justice Edward Amoako Asante – Judge Rapporteur / Member

Peter Obi now Nigeria’s most recognized politician globally – Donu Kogbara

By Sunny A. David, Awka

International rights activist and journalist Donu Kogbara has stated that former Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi has attained an exceptional level of global recognition, surpassing all other Nigerian politicians in popularity over the past three years.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV and was monitored by our correspondent in Awka, Kogbara highlighted Obi’s rapid political ascent since he parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She credited his independent candidacy with propelling him to remarkable levels of domestic and international acclaim.

“Peter Obi is far and away the most popular politician in Nigeria today, and has been for the past three years,” Kogbara said. “I’m talking about from the time he left the PDP to contest in his own right. That decision marked a turning point in his political journey.”

Reflecting on Obi’s previous political roles, she pointed out the stark difference in public reception between his 2019 vice-presidential run alongside Atiku Abubakar and his later solo campaign. “He ran with Atiku in 2019, and they didn’t perform particularly well. But there’s something about Peter standing on his own that resonates now,” she observed.

Kogbara also shared personal anecdotes illustrating Obi’s international visibility. “I recently visited Sierra Leone, and once people knew I was Nigerian, many asked me, ‘Do you know Peter Obi?’” she recalled. “Even in London, I’ve had Uber drivers—some Yoruba, who you might assume would favor Asiwaju—tell me that Peter Obi is ‘their man.’”

Offering a bold perspective, Kogbara suggested that the only Nigerian politician who might have rivaled Obi’s popularity was former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. “It’s a radical thought, but I believe the only person who could have matched Obi’s popularity—had he been given the chance to run—is Osinbajo,” she stated.

She concluded by reflecting on the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections, suggesting a different outcome might have reshaped the political contest. “If the APC had produced Osinbajo as its candidate, he could have posed a serious challenge to Obi in terms of public appeal and perception,” Kogbara said.

Nigeria Urges BRICS to Champion Climate Justice and Health Equity at COP30

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar has called on BRICS nations to lead a transformative global agenda that addresses the twin challenges of climate change and health inequity.

Tuggar made the call while speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian delegation.

He delivered an address outlining Nigeria’s vision for a just transition and the need for urgent, unified action at the BRICS Meeting in Brazil.

Tuggar emphasized that the health of the planet and the health of people from cities to rural communities are intrinsically linked and must be treated as such, stressing that: “The climate emergency heeds no borders. Just like global healthcare, we fix our own problems when we work together.”

Tuggar noted that despite contributing minimally to global emissions, Africa is disproportionately affected by climate change, citing examples from Nigeria, including deadly flooding in Mokwa, increasing desertification in the north, and rising sea levels in the Niger Delta, all of which are taking a toll on lives and livelihoods.

He lamented that: “Climate change is not a ‘tomorrow problem’ for Nigeria,” expressing condolences to victims of recent natural disasters. He called attention to Nigeria’s investments in renewable energy including hydro and solar and affirmed the country’s commitment to initiatives such as the African Carbon Market and the Great Green Wall.

He urged BRICS to increase climate financing support to developing nations, saying such assistance would enable the Global South to pursue ambitious climate targets while maintaining economic growth. “We believe COP30 must grasp the challenge of allowing the Global South to grow economically while safeguarding our collective responsibility to meet the challenge of climate change,” he said.

On global health, Tuggar warned that the inequities exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic demand a complete reinvention of global health systems. “Would so many children still die of malaria if this were a level playing field?” he asked. “COVID-19 was a tragedy, but also a warning.”

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen South-South health diplomacy through regional vaccine hubs, biotechnology and genomics research, and skills transfer. The goal, he said, is to prevent climate-induced health crises and ensure no child dies from a lack of access to routine healthcare.

Tuggar outlined Nigeria’s Long-Term Vision 2050, which seeks to integrate renewable energy, urban efficiency, and climate resilience into national planning. The plan includes reforestation and sustainable agriculture projects, as well as knowledge-sharing with countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

“Nigeria has always met its obligations under the Paris Agreement,” he said, calling for deeper cooperation with BRICS to achieve Universal Health Coverage, climate justice, and greater pandemic preparedness.

He urged COP30 to rise above “sterile and toothless diplomacy,” arguing that BRICS is well-positioned to offer a new framework for tackling old and emerging challenges. “Nigeria believes in solidarity, but we also recognize self-interest and nothing helps us help ourselves more than working together,” he concluded.

Anioma state creation: why We must act with urgency and support Senator Ned Nwoko

By CHIBUEZE OLOKOR

The clamor for the creation of Anioma State has spanned decades, driven by the aspiration of the Anioma people for equity, identity, and development. Today, that dream inches closer to reality through the tireless efforts of Senator Ned Nwoko. For this reason, it is imperative for all Anioma political leaders—House of Assembly members, Local Government Chairmen, political leaders and stakeholders across party lines—to rally behind this historic movement. The opportunity before us is rare, and if missed, may never return in generations to come.

Senator Ned Nwoko has demonstrated exceptional commitment and strategic foresight in pushing the Anioma agenda at the national level. His position in the Senate, coupled with his legal acumen and international connections, places him in a unique position to turn aspirations into tangible progress. The success of Anioma State creation requires a unified front, backed by every political figure who represents the people of Delta North.

The gains of Anioma State creation are numerous and deeply impactful. Politically, it would create a lot of political opportunities for our people. Three senators, more than 5 House of Representatives members, many house of assembly members and local government chairmen will emerge.

Economically, Anioma state would empower local communities, increase federal allocations, and accelerate infrastructural development in towns and villages that have long felt neglected under the current federal structure.

Culturally, Anioma State would give identity and voice to the Igbo-speaking people of Delta North. This would preserve our heritage, promote our language, and create space for homegrown policies that reflect our unique values. Local governments and communities would gain increased autonomy, tailored development strategies, and more opportunities for youth and women inclusion in governance.

House of Assembly members from Anioma have a duty beyond legislative functions. They are the voice of their people and must champion causes that bring long-term benefits to their constituencies. Local Government Chairmen, as grassroots leaders, must mobilize support, educate their communities, and ensure that the people are fully aware of what is at stake. The divisive tendencies being created will not do us any good.

This is not a partisan movement, it is a generational mission. Senator Ned Nwoko may be leading the charge, but the battle belongs to all Anioma people. Political egos and party rivalry must be set aside. History will not forgive silence, indifference or sabotage at such a critical juncture. Unity is strength, and with one voice, Anioma can be carved out as a new state.

We must act with urgency. Opportunities like this do not come often. The National Assembly is open to state creation proposals, and the political climate is favorable. If we miss this window, the consequences could last generations. Let us stand with Senator Ned Nwoko, not for his sake, but for the future of Anioma and the generations to come. The time is now.

Wolves Bite Back With Dominant Win to Revive Promotion Charge.

BY Azuka Chiemeka.

Warri Wolves Fc got back on track in the NNL Super 8 with a 3-0 win over Kun Khalifat FC at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

After losing their opening game to Osun United, the team came out with urgency.
Jude Ebhohon scored twice in the first half to give Wolves the lead. Yarhere Efe made it 3-0 in the 66th minute, but he was later sent off for a red card offence, leaving his side to finish the match with ten men.

Still, Warri Wolves controlled the rest of the game and secured their first three points of the playoffs.
They are now level with Kun Khalifat on points but ahead on goal difference as the final group games approach.

Speaking with journalists, Coach Napoleon Aluma said the team’s response was driven by confidence and unity.

“Self-belief was the motivating factor,” Aluma said. “We went unbeaten in the regular season, and after that first loss, we had to look inward, correct our mistakes, and reignite the spirit. This performance shows our response. I still strongly believe we’ll win our last match.”

Kun Khalifat coach Obinna Uzor said the early goal caught his team off guard and changed the rhythm of the game.

“That early goal completely demoralised us,” Uzor said. “It disrupted our rhythm and gave them confidence. From that point, it was tough to bounce back.”

Wolves will face Crown FC next, while Kun Khalifat takes on Osun United, with promotion still up for grabs.

CONDEMNATION TRAIL CALLS ON FG TO END OIL PIPELINE SURVEILLANCE contract AWARDED TO Tantita Security Service Nigeria Limited

* As Tompolo, Pondi, Bebenimibo, Tantita Security Services get vote of confidence from Urhobo youth leaders

Coordinators of Tantita Security Service Nigeria Limited and President Generals of all Urhobo Communities, have rejected the call by the leaders of Urhobo Progress Union UPU, on the federal government to terminate the running contract of oil pipeline surveillance awarded to company.

In an elaborate press briefing, held at Ughelli and attended by over 2000 Tanttita employees, the Coordinators and President Generals unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the management of Tanttita Security Services Nigeria Limited, noting that the services of Tanttita, has engaged more Urhobo youths, and communities than ever experienced.

They held that over 3,500 Urhobo youths are currently being employed by Tantita from 88 communities in 16 Kingdoms of Urhobo land.

According to the statement, “As of today, Tantita employes over 3,500 Urhobo indigene covering 88 Urhobo Communities in 16 Urhobo Kingdoms, making Tantita the highest employer of labour in Urhobo land.

“Anyone familiar with Tantita’s operations knows that all oil-bearing communities participate directly in securing facilities within their territories.

“In Ijaw land, they provide the bulk of patrol teams; the same is true of the Itsekiri, Isoko, Kwale and most certainly Urhobo-communities.

“Almost 4,000 Urhobo indigene earn a monthly wage as Tantita operatives and coordinators. From Iwhremeragha to Unenurhie, from Kokori to Oguname-Olomu, from Ovwiamuge-Agbarho to Ugbomro, from Mosogar to Ibada-Elume to Arhavwarhien, Tantita is on the ground through Urhobo indigenes. These communities amongst many others are protecting the nation’s national assets in collaboration with Tantita.

“Every single kilometre of pipeline traversing Urhobo land is protected by Urhobo indigenes 100%. Every community in Urhobo land has been given slots as operatives and coordinators and are responsible for the safekeeping of the pipelines in their domain.

“For over two years now, Tantita’s Urhobo coordinators and operatives have worked hard to reduce vandalism, oil theft, illegal refining, and environmental degradation to the barest minimum. No one, not a single community, has complained about their performance.

“Tantita with her state of the art technological capacity and extraordinary managerial skills has managed to make the work look effortless therefore every ignorant person thinks I can do it just as well!

“Nigerians must understand that people who use socio-cultural organizations are being mislead by the information at their disposal and as such should be disregarded.

According to the Coordinators, the opening paragraph of the UPU publication claimed that a resolution was reached at “a General Assembly of the Urhobo people” rejecting Tantita’s operations in Urhobo land. They however questioned the authenticity of such ‘General Assembly’ asking if he can produce the minutes of that meeting, the notice of the assembly, and the date it was held

“This form of entrepreneurship runs contrary to the tenets of the UPU and all Urhobos must rise against this debasement of their values as we will continue to uphold the values of the UPU Constitution to foster the spirit of love, mutual understanding and brotherhood among Urhobo people, good neighborliness with non- Urhobo people, and Nigeria in general.”

Speaking on behalf of President Generals of Urhobo communities, the President General of Evwreni Community, Chief Ukpebitere cautioned that; “No one should bring division between the Urhobo Nation and Tanttita Security Services Limited for personal greed and interest”. He called on all Urhobo indigene to ignore such publications and continue to work harmoniously with Tanttita management.

Highlights of the event was the vote of confidence passed on High Chief Government Ekpemuopolo, Kestin Pondi, Dr Paul Bebenimibo, and Tantita Security Services.

The motion for the vote of confidence was raised by the national President of Urhobo Youth Council, Mr Godspower Enerho and it was unanimously adopted.

Right of Reply: delegates advocating for creation of Anioma State not abandoned in Enugu -Sen Nwoko’s Media Office

0

Senator Ned Nwoko, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation and representative of Delta North Senatorial District, has strongly refuted claims that he abandoned delegates advocating for the creation of Anioma State during the recent Constitution Review hearing in Enugu.

The rebuttal came in a statement released Monday from his Media Office in response to a report by online platform (Not Vanguard). The publication had alleged that Senator Nwoko failed to support delegates who traveled to Enugu for the constitutional event — a claim the senator labeled as “falsehood and sensationalism.”

Senator Nwoko emphasized that the Anioma State advocacy is not his personal initiative but a collective cause he has chosen to champion on behalf of his constituents.

“It has become painfully predictable that this platform, under the editorial misadventure of its publisher, would again descend into the familiar gutter of sensationalism and manufactured falsehood,” the statement read.

“The headline about Senator Ned Nwoko and Anioma is just another tired attempt by a man who has made it his full-time hustle to blackmail those he cannot understand or control.”

Clarifying his role in mobilizing support for Anioma State, Nwoko stated that all delegates who expressed interest in participating in the Enugu public hearing were “duly and responsibly catered for,” including provisions for logistics, transportation, feeding, and accommodation.

“There was never any agreement or discussion about monetary compensation for attendance,” he explained. “No one was doing Senator Ned Nwoko a personal favour. They were speaking up for themselves, their children, their identity, and their future.”

The senator further stressed that his support for Anioma State is based on principle, not patronage.

“Senator Ned Nwoko does not and will not bribe people to support justice. He does not pay people to believe in their own self-determination,” the statement added.

Nwoko did not mince words in criticizing the founder of the platform, whom he described as “a failed discredited activist, and career blackmailer” with a reputation for “doctored narratives and desperate clickbait headlines.”

Senator Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to the Anioma cause, vowing to continue pursuing justice and representation for his people through legislative advocacy.

Demand for creation of Anioma state is historical struggle -Eboh, APC leader

As the quest for Anioma state creation rises in momentum, a prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress APC, in Delta state, Chief Emmanuel Eboh, wants members of the state house of assembly from Delta North to show commitment towards the struggle.

Chief Eboh gave the charge in a press interview after the senate public hearing on agitation for Anioma state and other constitutional issues, held last weekend at Ikot – Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state.

The APC stalwart flayed the Delta North state lawmakers for what he described as their “ lukewarm attitude “ to the Anioma state creation movement.

It would be recalled that Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly had sponsored a bill for the creation of Anioma state, stirring nation – wide debates.

Eboh expressed concerns that most of the state lawmakers of Delta North origin had not demonstrated keen interest in the Anioma struggle. He noted that there is no justification for their lethargy.

According to the APC leader, “the passive posture of the state legislators on the Anioma agitation does not align with the unwavering support and general enthusiasm of the people of Delta North who elected them.

“ The demand for the creation of Anioma state is a historical struggle. It is far older than members of the state house of assembly. A movement that started since 1954 deserves all attention.

“Our forebears, Sir Dennis Osadebe, Nosike Ikpo, the late Asagba of Asaba, and so many others championed the Anioma struggle. The new generation of state lawmakers as representatives of the people of Delta North ought to be very serious about it.

“I even read somewhere that some local government chairmen in Delta North claimed not to have signed a document giving their support on Anioma state. From credible reports now in the public domain, that seems to be an afterthought. They may be under pressure. We know they gave their assent. But that does not change any thing.

A vast population of the people want Anioma state. That is most important. Democracy is about people not few individuals.

“The posture of the state lawmakers from Delta North appears more worrisome and unacceptable compared with the council chairmen, who are less independent.

“ There must be a change of attitude by those elected to serve the interests of Anioma people. There should be no hide and seek. Everyone must be part of this state creation movement. It is for our common good,” Eboh said.

“The loud voices of kings, leaders, men, women, youths and the general populace, encompassing over a million stakeholders, all demanding Anioma state is too epic to juxtapose with whispers of less than a dozen numbers. The complaints are unnecessary and baseless.

“Our focus is on Anioma and nothing more. Anioma people can never be distracted as their beautiful symphony of a new dawn resonates clearly across the fertile landscape of Delta North.”

Highlighting the cultural and geographical richness of the region, Senator Nwoko celebrated the unity and determination flowing from all corners of Delta North, from the lush rainforests of Aniocha/Oshimili to the scenic hills of Ika land and the vast settlements of Ndokwa/Ukwuani.

“We are a people of civility and good breeding. We are the people of Anioma, the good land. We must continue to pursue our desire with the best of decorum, to maintain the clarity of our vision, firmness of our conviction and nobility of our cause.”

In a similar vein, Senator Nwoko expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Anioma and stakeholders nationwide for their overwhelming support during the recent Senate Public Hearing on constitutional amendments, which included deliberations on the proposed creation of Anioma State.

Senator Nwoko described the event, held on July 4th and 5th in Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, as “humbling and gratifying,” hailing the massive turnout and unanimous endorsements from across the region.

“The mammoth presence of thousands of stakeholders from the nine local government areas of Delta North was overwhelming,” Nwoko said. “Their strong, united voices in support of Anioma State reaffirm the nobility of our cause and the brightness of our future.”

Senator Nwoko extended special appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for providing a conducive political environment, as well as to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his leadership during the hearings.

He also thanked members of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review, the Akwa Ibom State Government, and traditional rulers from Delta North for their full participation and backing.

“The royal delegation, led by the Obi of Ubulu-Uno and the Obi of Idumuje-Unor at both Ikot-Ekpene spoke in one voice in favour of Anioma. Their presence added a historic depth and unity to the effort,” Nwoko noted.

He also commended the Anioma State Technical Committee, co-chaired by traditional rulers HRM Professor Epiphany Azinge (Asagba of Asaba) and HRM Benjamin Keagborekuzi (Dein of Agbor), for their strategic mobilization and coordination.

Anioma state: Participants unanimously support creation at Senate C’ttee public hearing in Ikot Ekpene

Participants at the Senate committee public hearing on the creation of Anioma state on Friday were unanimous in their support for the creation of the state. The event which held at Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom state was a gathering of Anioma people who are desirous of achieving a long term goal of statehood.

While numerous bills were presented for review by the constitution review committee, it was the proposal for the creation of Anioma State that stirred the most passionate response from the participants.

The tightly packed hall erupted with thunderous “No!” chants when Senator Seriake Dickson, South South zonal Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, asked if there were any objections to the bill. Every voice resonated with total acceptance of the submissions made by each presenter at the historic event.

Moments later, shouts of joy and cultural dances filled the venue, underscoring the deep-rooted desire of the Anioma people for statehood.

Over half of the attendees were Anioma indigenes and supporters, many of whom traveled across multiple states to witness and participate in what they described as an epoch making moment.

From lawmakers to traditional rulers and civil society representatives, women and youths, every voice aligned in one direction: Anioma State must be created.

For them, the time for liberation and cultural identity has come. The speakers urged the constitution review committee to do the needful and write their name in gold.

“The demand for Anioma State is not just constitutional; it is just, long overdue, and deeply desired by our people,” said Hon. Somadina Anwasia from Oshimili South. “Everyone from Anioma who spoke at the public hearing did so with one voice, we want our own state.”

Senator Ned Nwoko, the leading advocate for the creation of Anioma State, received widespread praise at the event for his relentless pursuit of the Anioma cause.

He described the event as a defining moment for the Anioma people, noting the overwhelming turnout from various segments of the community, including traditional rulers, youth leaders, professionals, and elders.

“The voice of Anioma echoed clearly,” the Senator stated. “This cause is rooted in history, legitimacy, and justice. We have crossed every hurdle required of us—from documentation to consensus.”

He expressed deep gratitude for the unity and conviction displayed by the Anioma delegation, emphasizing that their continued support reinforces the mandate he carries. Senator Nwoko also paid special tribute to the royal fathers who traveled long distances to lend their voices and presence to the cause.

Supporters celebrated him as a visionary who stood firm despite skepticism. “If you can dream it and are willing to fight for it, nothing is impossible,” Senator Nwoko said.

Speakers emphasized the potential benefits of Anioma State, citing improved governance, reduced unemployment, economic development, and cultural preservation. Many argued that the creation of Anioma State would correct long-standing political and historical imbalances.

Dr. Leroy Edozien, an APC chieftain from Delta State, said, “After over five decades of advocacy, the journey is finally reaching its climax. What we witnessed at the public hearing shows that Anioma’s time has come.”

High Chief Lucky Ikukaiwe, who represented the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), echoed this sentiment: “The Ndokwa people are united in this call. Anioma State is our aspiration, and we are committed to seeing it happen.”

Legal practitioner and community leader Tony Ogana recalled that the call for Anioma State dates back to 1954. “This is not a new demand. We are simply asking the Senate to fulfill a long-standing request.”

From a human rights perspective, Dr. Omenazu Jackson of the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights described the push for Anioma State as “a petition for equity and a demand for justice.”

He highlighted Anioma’s population of over 2.4 million, its oil and gas resources, a strong agricultural base, and an educated workforce as indicators of its viability.

“Anioma is not asking for charity,” Dr. Jackson said. “It is offering itself as a productive partner in the Nigerian project.

“Creating Anioma State is constitutionally sound, economically wise, and morally compelling. It can be a unifying act and a symbol of renewed hope in the Nigerian dream.”

As the public hearing drew to a close, one message stood tall above the rest: the people of Anioma are ready. With unity, cultural pride, and a clear vision for their future, they made it known that the time for Anioma State has come.

As the participants filed out of the hall, one could see a people united with a common purpose, a common dream and a desire to achieve a goal for for future generations

Delta North Trad Rulers insist on Anioma State creation, says it’s 71-year-old cry for justice

The Obi of Obulu-Uno and Vice Chairman of the Delta North Traditional Rulers Forum, His Royal Majesty, Obi Henry Afamefuna Kikachukwu, on Friday made a renewed and passionate appeal for the creation of Anioma State during a public hearing organized by the National Assembly Constitution Review Committee in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers from the Anioma region in Delta State, Obi Kikachukwu described the call for Anioma State as a long-overdue demand grounded in justice, cultural identity, and political inclusion.

He reminded the committee that the agitation dates back 71 years, reflecting decades of persistent advocacy and what he described as the marginalization of the Anioma people.

“This is not a new request. It is a 71-year-old cry for justice, for recognition, and for a rightful place within the Nigerian federation,” he told the committee. “Our people are tired of existing without identity. Living without a distinct state is a form of modern slavery. It must end.”

The Anioma monarch emphasized that the demand is not a personal or isolated one but a united front involving all traditional rulers and key stakeholders across Anioma land.

He said their presence at the hearing was deliberate and symbolic of their collective resolve to be part of the constitutional reform process.

“Now, the agitation is getting stronger. That is why we consider it necessary to be physically present at this hearing, not just as monarchs, but as custodians of our people’s hope,” he said.

Obi Kikachukwu argued that the creation of Anioma State is not merely a political issue but one that touches on the dignity and cultural affirmation of the Anioma people, who he said have long felt sidelined within the current state structure.

“Our people will be free,” he declared. “The denial of statehood is not just administrative. It is a denial of our heritage, our identity, and our contribution to Nigeria.”

He made a direct appeal to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and members of the Constitution Review Committee: “We are making a passionate appeal that you oblige our request to create Anioma State. This is the will of our people.”

The hearing drew a significant delegation of Anioma traditional rulers, whose presence underscored the urgency and unity behind the demand.

As the session ended, the weight of their message lingered, a reminder that for the Anioma people, the fight for statehood is no longer a plea, but a declaration.

In addition, States were encouraged to disseminate national laws and strengthen the capacities of all segments of society, including NHRIs, civil society, ministries departments and agencies, religious and traditional authorities, with a view to ensuring common ownership of these texts.

Participants also urged governments, based on the Paris Principles and the OPCAT, not to hinder the work of NHRIs, particularly their prevention and protection missions, by facilitating visits to places of deprivation of liberty (regular, unannounced, or notified visits) in order to engage in constructive dialogue with authorities for the humanization of prisons in our countries, among others.

With the expiration of the tenure of the office of members of the Executive Committee of the Network, an election was conducted to elect new members to occupy the various positions. Senator Nwoko’s advocacy for ANIOMA state brings fresh energy, credibility to political, administrative equity in Nigeria’s state structure

By Unue Emeka

The ongoing agitation for the creation of Anioma State has gained renewed momentum, thanks to the determined advocacy of Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, the representative of Delta North Senatorial District. A seasoned lawmaker, legal luminary, and development-driven leader, Nwoko has brought fresh energy and credibility to the long-standing call for political and administrative equity in Nigeria’s state structure.

At the heart of the Anioma state creation campaign lies a pursuit of justice, inclusion, and administrative balance. With the South-East geopolitical zone still lagging behind in the number of states, the proposal for Anioma State seeks to address this imbalance while giving the Anioma people a much-needed platform for self-determination and sustainable development.

Senator Nwoko’s involvement has not only reawakened interest in the movement but also lent it a degree of structure that had been missing. His track record of competence, both in Nigeria and abroad, and his ability to build consensus across party lines, make him a uniquely positioned advocate for this historic project.

In the 10th Senate, the bill for the creation of Anioma State, sponsored by Nwoko, has successfully passed its first and second readings. This milestone, achieved within a remarkably short period, highlights the senator’s legislative acumen and his capacity to navigate complex political terrains. It is a testament to what can happen when capacity is matched with competence.

Beyond legislative milestones, Nwoko has anchored the push for Anioma State on a solid intellectual and moral foundation. He argues not only from a place of regional patriotism but also from constitutional logic and national interest. For him, the creation of Anioma is not merely an ethnic agenda but a necessary step in Nigeria’s democratic evolution and federal balancing.

His approach has been both inclusive and strategic. By engaging traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society, and fellow lawmakers from all regions, Nwoko has demonstrated a rare political maturity. This cross-regional engagement ensures that Anioma State creation is seen not as a divisive move, but as a unifying national project.

The scheduled public hearing by the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, set for July 4th and 5th in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, is another feather in Nwoko’s cap. It signifies that the conversation is no longer speculative — it is now institutional. The public hearing will allow stakeholders from across the federation to deliberate on the merits of Anioma State creation, further legitimising the process.

Senator Nwoko’s leadership style combines visionary thinking with grassroots connection. He has not only taken the Anioma agenda to the Senate floor but has also consistently engaged his constituents back home. From town halls to media interactions, he ensures that the people remain central to the cause.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with issues of marginalisation, lopsided development, and ethno-political tension, projects like the Anioma State creation offer a pathway to healing and inclusion. With leaders like Senator Nwoko at the forefront, the hope for a fairer and more balanced Nigeria remains alive.

Ultimately, the Anioma dream is more than a political ambition, it is a reflection of a people’s aspiration for identity, growth, and justice. And in Senator Ned Nwoko, the Anioma people have found not just a representative, but a competent champion. When capacity meets competence, progress becomes not only possible but inevitable.

5th Anniversary: RERO TV Marks Breakthroughs with Grand Celebration in Sapele

RERO TV, one of Delta State’s fast-rising online media platforms, will celebrate its 5th anniversary on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, with a grand event at the Wetland Event Centre in Sapele, Delta State. The celebration marks a significant milestone in the platform’s growth from a modest initiative to a widely respected voice in community journalism.

Founded in early 2020 by Mr. Akporero Henry, RERO TV was born during a period of deep personal and professional uncertainty. From volunteering in Lagos without financial support to returning to Sapele with just ₦6,000 and a bold vision, Henry launched the channel with minimal tools but maximum resolve. With the encouragement of his mother, elder brother, and the mentorship of notable journalists in Delta State, he began covering local events with nothing more than a mobile phone and an unwavering passion for storytelling.

In just five years, RERO TV has grown into a credible and trusted news outlet, promoting grassroots development, youth inclusion, and the telling of untold community stories. Its influence now extends beyond Sapele, contributing to media development across Delta State and parts of southern Nigeria.

The anniversary celebration is expected to attract media professionals, traditional leaders, civil society actors, and key community stakeholders. Okakuro Dr. Anthony Aghogho Owumi, the Omamigho of Okpe Kingdom, will serve as Chairman of the occasion, while the Special Guest of Honour is His Royal Majesty, Udurhie I, Ph.D., the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom.

Human rights activist and development advocate, Comrade Lucky Ighoyota, will deliver the keynote address, expected to focus on the role of local media in fostering inclusive development and amplifying grassroots voices.

As part of the ceremony, RERO TV will honour selected Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) with special awards for their sustained contributions to social justice, humanitarian service, and community empowerment. This gesture, according to the organisers, underscores RERO TV’s dedication to strengthening partnerships that drive positive change.

Speaking ahead of the event, founder and CEO, Mr. Akporero Henry, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all who have supported the platform’s journey so far.

“This journey has been one of faith, sacrifice, and purpose,” he said. “From recording events with just a mobile phone to building a brand that now resonates with thousands, I remain thankful to everyone who believed in us. This 5th anniversary is a celebration of grace, grit, and the power of community.”

The anniversary event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM and is open to the general public.
