Police Affairs Minister Says Budget for Police Information System before Tinubu

The Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam on Tuesday said Nigeria remains committed to collaborate with other countries in the West African subregion to fight back insecurity.

He said the nation was ready more than ever before to share information with other countries in the subregion towards ensuring enhanced security for Nigeria and the rest of the countries in the subregion.

Gaidam made the disclosure at the formal handing over of the West African Police Information System (WAPIS) to national and regional authorities.

WAPIS is an European Union sponsored information system implemented by the INTERPOL.

The project which has lasted for 12 years is coming to a close and the sub-region is expected to take ownership of the project which aimed at developing the security information infrastructure of the police and other relevant agencies. The project also aimed at enhancing robust Information sharing on crime and other criminal activities within the subregion.

Speaking at the occasion which was held at the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, Gaidam said Nigeria has benefited greatly since the inception of the project.

He said with EU funding coming to an end, his ministry has prepared a budget which is already receiving attention by the President.

Gaidam said: “Today’s ceremony symbolizes Nigeria’s strong commitment and active role in regional security cooperation through the WAPIS Programme. Let us continue to build on these achievements and collaborate towards sustaining the WAPIS initiative, ensuring enhanced security for Nigeria and the West African Region.

“Understanding the imperative of sustainability, the Ministry of Police Affairs, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, has proactively submitted a comprehensive budget proposal to His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief, Federal Republic of Nigeria. I am pleased to report that this proposal is currently receiving commendable attention from the Office of the President.

“Moreover, as a further commitment to ensuring seamless and effective operation, I personally oversaw the provision of stable and reliable internet connectivity at the DACORE, facilitating continuous and effective communication with remote locations.

“Additionally, in our deliberate move to foster ownership and operational efficiency, the Ministry recently organized a three-day WAPIS Workshop themed “Interagency Collaboration on Information Sharing among Law Enforcement Agencies in Nigeria.” This vital workshop brought together key stakeholders from various law enforcement agencies, resulting in strategic deliberations that were encapsulated in a communique presented to the Federal Executive Council (FEC).”

The minister while commending EU and other partners for the initiative, also seeks the continuous support of the regional body, saying that “as we progress further in enhancing regional cooperation and security through WAPIS, aiming for sustainable peace and stability in West Africa.”

On his part, the President of ECOWAS Commission, Dr. Omar Touray said the region is faced with monumental threats, some of them existential, because of its tmgeographical location as well as many other factors.

He noted that through IPWAS, ECOWAS is building security infrastructure instruments across member states and beyond in order to combat these threats, which include human trafficking, insecurity and other criminalities.

Touray, who was represented by the ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, Amb. Abdel-Fatal Musah, stressed that WAPIS has succeeded in bridging the gap in the area of information sharing and this needed to be taken further and that will require a continuation of the WAPIS agenda.

He therefore said that “ The platform, the digital platform for gathering, storing, managing, sharing information in order to enhance collaboration against criminality in our region could never have started at a better time than when it did.”

He however said the work is still in progress and has not stopped with the handing over of the project to ECOWAS, saying that: “ECOWAS still has not fully, under the WAPIS arrangement, completed the creation of a regional platform. Some of our member states are also lagging behind in even creating the network nationally in order to facilitate monitoring of criminal activities in our region.

“Those are very critical elements that we have to continue with. And we know that intelligence sharing is not easy because intelligence sharing goes to the very core of national security and people will say sovereignty and then all others.”

He also added that: “Even as the funding by the European Union is coming to an end, we need to broaden partnerships and still continue collaboration with the European Union to see what is possible in order to maintain the expertise that has been developed in the course of the WAPIS process. That is very important.”

Musah in an interview with the media, also stressed that the project is part of the infrastructure being built to fight criminality in the region.

He however expressed displeasure with the slow pace and the lack of platform by the region.

He said: “You know, the duration that this process has taken. It has been almost 12 years since it began. It just tells you about the slow pace that it has taken. And even as we speak, the regional platform is not ready, but they are handing over. And in some member states, even the inter-agency coordination mechanism is lacking.
Something about fighting crime requires a lot of political will and trust. Because criminality, who is a criminal, who is not a criminal, one man’s criminal is another man’s hero. So you need to build that common agenda.

“So the duration of it, and the fact that we have not been able to complete this process, are two of the challenges that we have now. And hopefully, after this handover, as we think about whatever is happening, we will see.”

He noted that the process will require “a lot of advocacy to make sure we push it forward. And then the principle of reciprocity. Meaning that we are not going to share our database with a region like the EU if they do not share their database with us. It has to be on equal terms.”

“So if we give you the petty criminals, you have them and the big shots are in the European capitals, in Latin America, then the whole exercise is futile. Because what you want to stop is to stop criminality from the countries of origin, the countries of transshipment, that is West Africa, and then the country of the end users in Europe and others.

“So if we do not have that network that brings all these factors together, then the database will be limited to our region. In terms of exchange of information, which is a good thing. But like I said before, even at that level, we haven’t reached there yet.”

The EU ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, on his part, said the project has been a success, stating that:
“Well, we think the programme has been very successful, because we’ve seen that it has been adopted by the individual countries. And there were around 750,000 datas entered into the platform.

“Criminals, stolen cars, stolen objects, fraudulent documents, stolen documents. And it has led to success in law enforcement. So that’s really the reason for the objective of the programme.”

He also said the EU will be willing to share Information with ECOWAS, saying “ one of the interests of such a platform is also to open the possibility of exchanging data out of the region, out of West Africa, also through Interpol. And the fact that Interpol is so much involved in this programme, of course, is a very important asset from this point of view. But the most important part is for each individual country to have this digital platform, and for the cooperation between the countries of the region.”

Mignot, while stressing the importance of the platform, said: “Because today, crime is transnational, very much. And so, if you don’t know the information that your neighbouring country has, you won’t be able to fight crime efficiently.”

He also revealed that the project has received funding of €38 million over 13 years, since its inception in three phases. And the third phase, which will be closing in a few weeks, was financially the most important with 28 million euros in financing.

On his part, INTERPOL Executive Director for Police service, Cyril Gout spoke about the challenge of bringing all the ECOWAS countries on the same digital page.

He said: “And the most pressing challenge is having all those countries contributing on their sides or allocating resources, but also deciding themselves to share a legal framework. To share a legal framework, to be consistent in the information that they do share through the police information system. So twelve years, it’s a while, but it’s just sufficient to be at the level where we are today.”

He also stressed that it is the beginning of a new, safer era. “That’s the beginning of new initiatives where the governments, where the countries of West Africa take ownership of what they have. Towards digitalisation, towards access to more information in the region, to bring this information for the success of investigation, to have more safety in controls.”

Borno: Zulum Decries Rising Boko Haram Attacks

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has raised an alarm over the escalating attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP, urging the federal government and security agencies to take decisive action before the situation spirals out of control.

There has been a surge in past months in Borno communities as insurgents have led relentless assaults targeted at villages and military outposts, particularly in Sabon Gari, Wajiroko and Wulgo, among others.

During an expanded security meeting at Borno State Government House Maiduguri , Zulum urged the federal government to prioritise the security of the North East, particularly Borno State, which shares borders with three neighbouring countries—Chad, Cameroon, and the Republic of Niger—as well as security concerns in the Sahel region.

The governor said: “While we appreciate the tremendous support from the federal government and the military, we also want to state that with the current focus in the fight against insecurity shifted from the northeast, all the gains we have recorded so far will be reversed.”

He added that: “In recent times, Borno State has been witnessing sporadic attacks from Boko Haram insurgents; many military formations were dislodged, such as in Wulgo, Wajiroko and Sabon Gari, among others. It seems we are losing ground.

“Therefore, we want to appeal to the federal government to ensure that the northeastern part of the country receives the desired attention. It seems the focus of the Nigerian Army and the Ministry of Defence is not on the northeast.”

Zulum noted that the northeast, particularly Borno State which is neighbouring three countries in the troubled sahel region deserves more attention from federal government in its resolve to fight terrorism in Nigeria.

Zulum further stressed, “The recent escalation of Boko Haram attacks across the state is a matter of utmost concern. There is an urgent need for aggressive military action and actionable intelligence to counter the insurgency. The recent attacks on Sabongari, Damboa, Wulgo, Baga and Monguno point to the need to up our ante in confronting BH insurgency decisively and swiftly.

“I call on our armed forces to not only mount checkpoints and guard our towns and villages, I also call on our armed forces to take the battle to the enemy. We should not grant breathing space to the terrorists to regroup, rearm and carry out attacks on our territory. By engaging in relentless patrols, picketing and decapitation missions, our troops should defeat and end the insurgency in time so that our recovery plan will progress without let or hindrance.”

The Governor restated his commitment to continually support the military and other security agencies working in Borno State to achieve their objectives of fighting insurgency in the state.

The Governor noted, “Borno State government will continue to work closely with the armed forces to execute our development and peacebuilding programmes. We are deeply conscious of the nexus between development, security and peace. Hence, as we invest in critical infrastructure, we are also opening new avenues for our citizens to engage in agriculture and sustainable livelihood.

He added, “All these will not be possible without resourcing and empowering our security agencies to secure our territory and safeguard citizens’ lives and property. My government will continue to support our defence and security agencies while pushing them to perform better when encountering terrorism, insurgency and criminality.”

Briefing journalists after the closed-door session of the security meeting, Borno State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, noted that among the resolutions at the end of the meeting, the security council had expressed support to Borno State Government’s resettlement efforts.

The meeting was attended by the GOC 7 Div, Major General Abubakar Haruna, Traditional rulers from the 7 emirate councils of Borno and other heads of security outfits.

FORMER AAU AVC, ADAGBONYIN, LAUDS RT. HON MARCUS ONOBUN FOR KEEPING PROMISE TO FIX ACCESS ROAD IN COLLEGE OF MEDICINE

By Erhasumwen Amadin

The immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Professor Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyin, has commended the Member Representing Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun (KSC), for keeping his promise to fix access road in the University’s College of Medicine.

Pix: Storm drainage construction in progress at the College of Medicine. Testament of a promise kept.

Professor Adagbonyin made the commendation on Tuesday while commenting on the progress made so far on the on-going construction of functional drainage system which will serve as a useful flood control measure to complement the road project also being embarked upon by Rt. Hon. Onobun.

Professor Adagbonyin recalled that in January, 2024, Onobun had personally called him to intimate him of his intention to do a project for the University.

“When he mentioned the College of Medicine, it was like a bolt from the blues, and both of us had agreed that the College of Medicine was an appropriate location for the project, considering its strategic importance to the University and based on the fact that a motorable, well-drained road had become desirable for the College and for its teeming students.

“Rt. Hon. Onobun, after our conversation, immediately requested me to do for him a Brief of Engineering Management and Evaluation, which I got the Physical Planning Unit to do. I forwarded to him in no time.”

The former Acting Vice Chancellor said, “On January 23rd, 2024, Rt. Hon. Onobun brought the good news of the approval of the budget for the project by the appropriate federal authorities. That excited me in no little way. On his part, the law maker’s enthusiasm was unabashed.”

Professor Adagbonyin informed that the Rt. Hon. Onobun was persistent on the implementation of the programme from the stage it was advertised by the Federal Ministry to when it was awarded. His zeal saw to it that months later, he was delivering on his promise.

“Note that he is not facing any impending election; note that he is not under pressure in any way. A promise keeper remains a promise keeper. I’m personally grateful to him for his unmitigated selflessness, commitment and interest in seeing this project through in Ambrose Alli University. I’m also proud to have given him my full support in the preparatory stages of the project during my time as Acting Vice Chancellor.”

Professor Adagbonyin described Rt. Honourable Onobun as a young, vibrant politician who has always loved Ambrose Alli University beyond being its worthy Alumnus. “He has an inviolate visionary acumen. I’m so happy about his important contribution to the development of the College of Medicine, and super glad to be seeing the progress of the project even when I’m out of office,”
Professor Adagbonyin said.

Checks by this reporter on the drainage which forms part of the road project shows it is more than fifty percent completed. Upon eventual completion the road project is expected to ease human and vehicular movement within the College, arrest erosion challenges and beautify the physical outlook of the College.

DSCTDA decries incessant dumping of Waste on koka fly over bridge *Urges Residents to register with private sector waste disposal coys

By Chibuzor Ogode

In a bid to consolidate the continuous effort of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration to create a clean, secure and Green environment for the people, the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency continues to carry out inspections and sensitization exercises around the capital Territory, with a call on stakeholders, shop owners and market traders to register with private sector waste disposal companies and stop dumping waste on the median kerbs, walkways, setbacks, koka fly over and other unauthorized places in the capital Territory.

Speaking during the inspection and sensitization exercise on Friday 4/4/2025 at the koka fly over, the Head of Administration and Finance of DSCTDA, Mr. Vincent Ohwofadjeke, who was accompanied by some staff members of the Agency, warned those who had turned the koka fly over bridge to refuse dump to desist from the negative practice.

Mr. Ohwofadjeke, who decried the high level of indiscriminate dumping of waste on the koka fly over, setbacks walkways, drains and other unauthorized places, also frowned at illegal trading activities going on under the koka flyover, and urged the people to support the efforts of the state Government to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.

Ohwofadjeke explained that the DSCTDA is a Government Agency created to accelerate Development within the Capital Territory and that Environmental sanitation is one of the Sub functions of the Agency.

He also made it clear that Delta State Waste Management Board is in charge of keeping the koka flyover clean and that PWAN Group; a Real Estate company has been given the contract to beautify the koka flyover on a PPP arrangement and that work was seriously ongoing. He noted that a police post is being built by the side of the koka flyover and that the presence of the police around the koka axis would help reduce crime rate in the area and get rid of miscreants, hoodlums and street urchins that have currently taken over the Coker Bridge. The Agency also revealed that an existing but disfunctional public toilet was also being reconstructed by the side of the koka flyover. This is aimed at stopping the nuisance of continuous defecation on top and around the Coker flyover bridge.

While addressing traders at the summit fruit market, he said that “the Agency is not out to inflict pains on street traders, which is why the Agency is constantly out ensuring that traders are constantly keeping their environment clean with the daily sanitation program currently going on.

“Anybody that is found wanting, doing any other thing apart from what has been announced, dumping dirt on the drains, walkway and setback will be apprehended and prosecuted. This is a sound warning from Delta state capital Territory Development Agency. We are set out and we are determined to make the state clean,” he added.

Senator Ned Nwoko stirs political discourse in Delta North ahead 2027 National Assembly polls

By Kenneth Orusi

As Nigeria looks ahead to the 2027 general elections, conversations around political leadership are already gaining momentum.

In Delta North and across parts of Nigeria, one name that consistently stirs political discourse is Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly.

Known for his bold, assertive, proactive, and people-centered approach, Senator Nwoko’s growing influence has sparked a pertinent debate: does Senator Nwoko possess a comparative advantage over any candidate the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will present in 2027?

While such a question might produce varied responses in traditional party politics, it reflects a shifting political reality, one where the strength of individual candidates can, in certain contexts, eclipse the brand and pull of their political platforms.

The Rise of a Political Brand

Since his election to the 10th Nigerian Senate, Senator Nwoko has charted a unique course that sets him apart from the crowd of Nigeria politicians.

His legislative activism, passionate interventions on national issues, and direct involvement in constituency developments have not only made him a standout lawmaker but have also elevated his public image far beyond his contemporaries.

Senator Nwoko’s frequent media visibility, his clear positions on critical issues and his fearlessness in holding institutions accountable, have endeared him to Nigerians beyond party lines.

While many politicians rely heavily on party structures to stay relevant, Nwoko has built what some describe as a “personal political movement”, grounded in performance, connection with grassroots communities, and a no-nonsense style of advocacy for the average and underprivileged Nigerians.

PDP’s Waning Popularity

The PDP, once the most dominant political force in Nigeria, has faced increasing internal crises, voter fatigue, and strategic missteps over the years.

Though in Delta State, the party still maintains some degree of stronghold, signs of disillusionment and disintegration are apparent. Party loyalty no longer guarantees electoral success as it once did. The party has disintegrated in most Delta North LGAs following massive defections to the APC.

Candidates are now assessed more on personal track records, credibility, and capacity to deliver. While the PDP wrestles with internal reconciliation and a perception of stagnancy in some quarters, Nwoko’s energetic approach offers a fresh contrast as he galvanises APC members for victory in 2027.

Legislative Impact and Visibility

Unlike many legislators who go unnoticed throughout their tenure, Senator Nwoko has demonstrated a keen understanding of the power of the legislature to influence national discourse and drive tangible results.

His motion on foreign debt recovery brought renewed attention to billions of dollars owed Nigeria, an issue others feared to touch. His international connections prior to becoming Senator is paving way heavily for him.

His persistent calls for accountability and economic reforms reflect a lawmaker who is not content with business of politics as usual.

While some party figures rely on behind-the-scenes influence or patronage systems, Senator Nwoko has opted for a more transparent and bold model of public service.

Constituency Engagement

Perhaps the most telling edge Senator Nwoko holds is his relationship with his constituents. From scholarship schemes to road projects, rural electrification to women and youth empowerment programs, his physical and financial presence across Delta North has been most consistent.

This direct engagement has created a loyalty base rooted in gratitude and shared experience, far stronger than any generic party appeal.

In many rural communities in Delta North, the face of development is not the party symbol, it’s Senator Nwoko himself. That brand of personal credibility is difficult to replicate.

Independent Fundraising Power

Unlike many politicians who depend entirely on party structures for campaign financing, Senator Nwoko is known to be financially independent and well-connected both locally and internationally.

His wealth, strategic networks, and legal background provide a formidable support base that frees him from the financial limitations that often hamper the progress of political business.

This independence means he is less susceptible to intra-party political hostage-taking. It allows him to speak freely, act swiftly, and fund people oriented initiatives. These are initiatives that support people and make life beautiful for his constituents.

A Bridge Between Old and New Politics

Another key advantage lies in Nwoko’s positioning as a hybrid politician. His political moves and programs appeal to both the old and the emerging generation of politically conscious youths.

His royal lineage, legal pedigree, and experience in the political trenches afford him respect among the elite, while his youth-friendly policies and candid communication style resonate with younger voters.

While the PDP struggles to connect with Nigeria’s evolving political demographics, Senator Nwoko seems to have found a way to speak both languages fluently.

The risk for the PDP is clear: if it fails to harness and support transformative figures like Senator Nwoko, it risks alienating the very forces that could revitalize its brand. But it will be very difficult for the PDP to field a candidate from any of the nine LGAs that could march the strength and political push of Senator Ned Nwoko.

As 2027 approaches, Senator Nwoko represents more than just a popular politician, he is a case study in modern political relevance.

His comparative advantage over the PDP stems not from his performance in the National Assembly, he embodies what the electorate increasingly craves: bold leadership, genuine service, and clear results.

In a political landscape where parties are often judged by their weakest links, Senator Nwoko is the APC’s strongest asset in Delta North.

The challenge for the party is to recognize this, support it, and replicate it, before the electorate begins to see the individual as the brand, and not the party that produced him.

The Unstoppable Rise of Senator Ned Nwoko: A Leader Defined by Impact

By Kenneth Orusi

Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North in the National Assembly has gained real prominence in the 10th Nigeria senate. His rise is a result of bold legislative action, unwavering advocacy for the underrepresented, and an unapologetic approach to tackling national issues that others often avoid.

From the moment he took his seat as the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Nwoko brought a refreshing wave of assertive leadership, capturing the attention of both the Senate and the Nigerian public.

One of the key drivers of his popularity is his unmatched legislative activism. Unlike many newcomers who take time to find their footing, Senator Nwoko hit the ground running, sponsoring bills and motions that directly address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

Notably, his firm push for debt recovery from foreign entities owed to Nigeria stands out as a patriotic crusade that has positioned him as a guardian of the nation’s economic sovereignty.

Beyond the Senate chamber, Senator Nwoko’s voice carries weight in national discourse. He has remained one of the patriotic Nigerians who seek the welfare of the Nigerian people and willing to sacrifice anything for their good.

He is not one to mince words when speaking truth to power, whether it’s confronting the failures of government institutions or calling out policies that serve the elite at the expense of the common Nigerian.

His outspokenness has earned him massive respect from the masses who are tired of political correctness masking incompetence.

Furthermore, Senator Nwoko’s popularity stems from his deep engagement with his constituency.

He has transformed representation from mere rhetoric to tangible action, initiating developmental projects, scholarships, and youth programs that have a direct impact on the lives of the people.

In a political climate where constituents are often forgotten after elections, Nwoko’s consistent presence and performance have become a benchmark for effective senatorial leadership.

Critics might label his style as dramatic or overtly ambitious, but even they cannot deny his influence.

His ability to dominate headlines and stay in the spotlight is not a product of media manipulation, but rather a reflection of relevance as he only speaks when it matters and acts when others hesitate.

In an era when the Nigerian Senate is often criticized for being out of touch, Senator Nwoko stands as a compelling counterexample.

He has carved out a reputation for himself not just as a legislator, but as a national voice of reason, resistance, and responsibility.

His meteoric rise in popularity is not owed to theatrics, but to impact in the Senate. And in today’s Nigeria, that impact is rare, and desperately needed.

Senator Ned Nwoko‘s ad-hoc c’tee on crude oil theft calls for a public hearing

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North and chairman of Senate ad-hoc committee on crude oil theft has called for a public hearing on the issue of crude oil theft in the Niger Delta. The Niger Delta, home to Nigeria’s vast oil reserves, has long been a region marred by both environmental degradation and socio-economic struggles.

The theft of crude oil, reportedly carried out by well-organized criminal syndicates, has become a critical issue, not only for Nigeria’s economy but also for the sustainability of the oil-rich region.

In his call for a public hearing, Senator Nwoko sought to draw attention to the scale and impact of crude oil theft, a practice that has plagued the country for decades without a sustainable solution. Besides drawing attention to the impact of crude oil theft, Senator Ned Nwoko seeks to find lasting solution to the menace.

Nigeria is one of the world’s largest oil producers, and crude oil is a primary source of revenue for the nation. However, it is also one of the main drivers of corruption and illicit activities in the country.

Oil theft, or “bunkering” as it is commonly known, involves the illegal extraction of crude oil from pipelines, oil facilities, and other infrastructure in the Niger Delta. These stolen resources are often sold on the black market, or exported outside the country, a development that deprives the government and the people of their rightful earnings.

Senator Nwoko’s call for a public hearing is rooted in his concern about the devastating effects of oil theft on the Niger Delta’s environment and its people. And most importantly its effect on the nation’s economy.

The environmental damage caused by the illegal tapping of oil pipelines and the subsequent discharge of crude oil into the surrounding ecosystems is catastrophic.

Oil spills have destroyed farmlands, contaminated freshwater sources, and led to the loss of biodiversity in a region that relies heavily on agriculture and fishing for sustenance.

The people of the Niger Delta have long borne the brunt of this environmental degradation, with little to show for the resources extracted from their land.

The senator believes that though the Nigerian government has taken some steps to address the issue of oil theft, there is need for a more structured, transparent, and inclusive approach to tackling the problem.

According to Nwoko, a public hearing would serve as a platform for all stakeholders—government agencies, security agencies, local communities, and oil companies—to come together and discuss the root causes of oil theft and the best ways to curb the menace. He is of the view that without a comprehensive understanding of the problem, any efforts to combat oil theft would remain inadequate.

One of the key points raised by Nwoko in his call for a public hearing is the role of security forces in the region. Despite the significant presence of security personnel, oil theft continues to thrive in the Niger Delta.

Nwoko is of the view that the complex nature of oil theft syndicates and their connections to powerful individuals has made it difficult for security agencies to effectively combat the problem.

Senator Nwoko is also of the belief that oil companies operating in the region should take greater responsibility in safeguarding their assets.

A public hearing, Nwoko believes, could help hold these companies accountable and encourage them to invest in better infrastructure, such as more secure pipelines, and to collaborate with local communities in finding long-term solutions to the problem.

In addition to addressing the environmental and economic impacts of oil theft, Nwoko’s call for a public hearing is also a call for greater political accountability.

The senator also believes that the Nigerian government must take a more active role in protecting the resources of the Niger Delta and ensuring that the benefits of oil extraction are more equitably distributed among the people.

The senator believes that the public hearing could be an opportunity for lawmakers to engage with the people of the region, the larger Nigerian people and better understand their concerns.

The idea of holding a public hearing on crude oil theft is not without its challenges. The entrenched interests that benefit from the status quo, including criminal syndicates and corrupt individuals, are unlikely to welcome any move that threatens their illegal profits.

However, the senator’s call for transparency and public dialogue is a step in the right direction. It represents a recognition that the issue of crude oil theft cannot be solved through secrecy or piecemeal efforts. A comprehensive, multi-stakeholder approach, with input from all relevant parties, is necessary to bring about meaningful change in the region.

Senator Nwoko believes that the theft of crude oil has exacerbated the economic problems in Nigeria. By addressing oil theft, the Nigerian government could not only improve security and governance in Nigeria but also ensure that the country’s oil wealth benefits all Nigerians, rather than being siphoned off by criminals and corrupt elites.

It is believed that Senator Ned Nwoko’s call for a public hearing on crude oil theft in the Niger Delta is an important and timely intervention in the ongoing struggle to address one of Nigeria’s most pressing issues.

It demonstrates the need for greater transparency, accountability, and collaboration in tackling oil theft and its associated problems. Senator Nwoko’s advocacy serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing the root causes of oil theft and ensuring that the people of the Niger Delta benefit from the resources that lie beneath their land.

The public hearing is billed to hold on April 28th and 29th, 2025, at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja. This hearing represents a crucial step toward addressing the persistent and damaging issue of crude oil theft in the Niger Delta and beyond.

The underlisted institutions and agencies have been shortlisted to participate in the hearing and also submit memoranda which will be helpful to the committee.

The institutions and agencies invited are government agencies which include NNPCL, CBN, NUPRC, NIMASA, NPA, Nigeria Customs Service; security agencies which include Nigerian Armed Forces, DSS, NSCDC and Nigerian Police.

Others are Industry stakeholders such as NEITI, OPTS, IPPG, IOCs, OML operators and other stakeholders such as shipping lines, crude oil lifters, commercial banks, security firms, oil and gas producing states and communities and members of the public.

APC APPEALS TO PRESIDENT TINUBU TO APPOINT ISOKO SON MD SOUTH SOUTH DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

By Michael Ekokoruwe

The members of All Progressive Congress in Isoko Nation, Delta State, have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint Isoko son as Managing Director of South South Development Commission.

The party members made the appeal during a press conference, held at the party secretarial Oleh, Isoko South local government area of Delta State. They appealed to president Tinubu to address the continuous neglect of the Isoko people in federal appointments and infrastructural development.

The statement by Mr. Vincent Egbogbo, Isoko South APC chairman, Daniel Emebunor Esq., Isoko North APC chairman, Hon. Dcns. Mrs. Hoplyn Akpotu – Ayu, State welfare secretary, Surv. Peter Akarogbe, secretary APC Delta State, Comr. Ede Hyacent Ewariezi, Delta South Youth leader and others, demanded Isoko representation in federal appointments.

The members appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the continuous neglect of the Isoko people in federal appointments and infrastructural development, emphazising that Isoko is one of the five ethnic nationalities in Delta State and the second most populous in the region.

It meantained that “the Isoko oil fields produce a substantial amount of oil daily, with a gross output of 383,478.9 barrels, and a net output of 124,578.68 barrels “, adding that the contribution to the national economy should not be overlooked.

The party members stressed that, Isoko has been lacking in essential infrastructural development since independence and urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider the Isoko Nationality in subsequent federal appointments to address the infrastructural deficiency in the region.

The statement decried total neglect and marginalization of the region, noting that Isoko has been peaceful and does not engage in pipeline vandalism and other destructive activities, causing crisis and unrest.

“We deserve recognition and inclusion in the development of our nation, reflecting our significant contribution in the national economy” it stated.

Senator Ned Nwoko’s influence transcends personal political ambitions

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

Senator Ned Nwoko’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has undoubtedly had significant political implications in Delta North and the broader political landscape of Delta State. Nwoko, a prominent political figure, businessman, and philanthropist, is well-known for his influence and the deep connections he has built within Delta North over the years.

His move from the PDP, a party with which he had established a strong relationship, has led to the depletion of the PDP’s influence in the region, weakening the party’s chances in future elections and altering the political dynamics in the state. This assertion is becoming obvious as massive defections continue to hit the PDP almost on a daily basis.

The Rise of Senator Ned Nwoko in Delta North

Senator Nwoko, a former member of the House of Representatives, emerged as a significant force in Delta North’s politics, primarily due to his wealth, philanthropic activities, and political acumen. His influence in Delta North was particularly notable because of his ability to build relationships across ethnic and political lines.

His entry into the Senate was a testament to his political influence and the support he garnered from a wide range of stakeholders in the region. His affiliation with the PDP was promising at the onset, as the party had a significant presence in Delta State.

However, the manner in which the party was being run in Delta State led to his eventual defection to the APC. His defection came with several positive and negative consequences, positive for him and the APC and highly negative for the PDP. His departure is having serious negative impact on the PDP as alot of PDP members are pulling out and aligning with his political philosophy.

The Depletion of PDP’s Strength in Delta North

Senator Nwoko’s defection to the APC has depleted the PDP’s strength in Delta North in several ways. First, Nwoko’s departure took away a key political figure from the PDP in the region. As one of the most prominent and influential politicians in Delta North, Nwoko had the ability to mobilize large numbers of supporters and voters for the PDP.

His influence transcended beyond his personal political ambitions to encompassing a network of grassroots supporters, business leaders, and key stakeholders in Delta North. Losing such a figure has significantly weakened the PDP’s ability to maintain its political dominance in the region.

Second, Nwoko’s departure signals a shift in the political allegiance of his supporters. Many of Nwoko’s loyalists, who had followed him through his rise in Delta North politics, are moving in massive exodus into the APC. This exodus of supporters is a blow to the PDP, as it loses a significant portion of its base.

The defections are not just limited to ordinary voters but also extend to prominent political figures, party chieftains, and influential stakeholders in Delta North. These defections have left a vacuum within the PDP, making it more difficult for the party to maintain its previous level of influence in the region.

Political and Electoral Ramifications

The political ramifications of Nwoko’s defection are far-reaching, particularly in terms of electoral competitiveness. Delta North has historically been a stronghold for the PDP, but the defection of a high-profile figure like Nwoko to the APC has altered the balance of power in the region.

In future elections, the APC is now better positioned to challenge the PDP’s dominance in Delta North. Nwoko’s political stature and ability to mobilize voters could give the APC a much-needed boost, especially in the 2027 elections.

The APC, which has historically struggled to make significant inroads in Delta State, now has a prominent figure to challenge the PDP in the region. Nwoko’s defection definitely will provide the APC with the kind of electoral boost it has long been seeking, making Delta North a more competitive region for the party. The APC’s new-found strength in the region could potentially disrupt the PDP’s grip on Delta State, especially as the two parties prepare for upcoming elections.

For the PDP, Nwoko’s defection represents a considerable loss in terms of resources and political capital. Nwoko had the financial resources, organizational capacity, and broad-based support to swing elections in the region, particularly for the PDP. His exit now leaves the PDP in a weakened state, forcing the party to re-evaluate its strategy and seek new alliances and strategies to win back lost ground in Delta North.

The Broader Impact on Delta State Politics

Nwoko’s defection also signals broader trends in Delta State’s politics, particularly in the ongoing battle for political control between the PDP and the APC. Delta State has historically been a stronghold for the PDP, but the emergence of new political dynamics, such as the rise of Nwoko within the APC, is shaking up the established order.

Nwoko’s decision is inspiring other disgruntled PDP members to follow suit, leading to massive defections from the party. This could undermine the PDP’s hold on other parts of Delta State, resulting in a realignment of political forces.

Furthermore, Nwoko’s defection has created a power vacuum within the PDP in Delta North, which is likely to lead to a scramble for leadership positions within the party. New aspirants and power brokers may emerge to fill the void left by Nwoko, potentially leading to internal instability within the PDP. This power struggle could further weaken the party’s ability to mount a united front against the APC in future elections.

Finally, Senator Nwoko’s defection to the APC is a significant blow to the PDP in Delta North. His departure has weakened the party’s grip on the region, depleting its influence and support base. As a result, the PDP faces an uphill battle to maintain its dominance in Delta North in the face of an energized APC.

Nwoko’s defection not only affects the PDP’s electoral prospects but also reflects a broader shift in Delta State politics that could have long-term implications for the political landscape of the region. The PDP must now regroup, reassess its strategies, and work hard to win back the support it has lost in the wake of this significant political shift.

Breaking Down Senator Nwoko’s X Space Engagement on Big Tech Accountability Bill

The Senator representing Delta North, Senator Ned Nwoko, has once again stirred meaningful conversation with his latest legislative move, a bill to mandate establishment of physical offices by multinational social media companies, which recently gained massive attention during an interactive X Space session on Friday.

Here are key points from the Senator’s direct engagement:

Bringing Global Standards Home

As a UK-trained lawyer, Senator Ned Nwoko stressed that his advocacy is not personal but driven by the need to replicate best practices in Nigeria’s digital space. “My bills and motions are not about me. I understand how things work in developed countries, and I want to see same here,” he noted.

What the Bill Actually Proposes

The bill is not about gagging free speech. It is about structure, responsibility, and protection. It proposes the creation of a regulatory framework that will ensure social media platforms have physical offices in Nigeria and comply with local laws, just like they do in other countries.

Job Creation & Economic Benefits

According to Senator Nwoko, compelling tech giants to open offices in Nigeria will create thousands of jobs in law, media, technology, and customer service. It will also drive skill transfer and open up more opportunities for Nigerian professionals.

No Room for Fake News

The Senator emphasized that freedom of speech should not translate to freedom to defame, mislead, or destroy lives. He stated, “Many people have lost their lives or fallen into depression because of fake news. Bloggers shouldn’t make money at the expense of others.”

Global Precedents

The Senator pointed to similar laws in India and the European Union, stressing that Nigeria is not reinventing the wheel but simply protecting its digital space and economy like other sovereign nations.

Nigeria Has Leverage

Addressing fears that platforms might pull out of Nigeria, he said: “These companies will not leave. Nigeria is a major market with over 100 million internet users. Our participation is too valuable for them to ignore.”

Data Protection & Security

One of the strong pillars of the bill is protecting Nigerians’ data and ensuring grievances against tech companies can be addressed locally.

In the Senator’s words: “This bill is about accountability, not censorship. It is time Nigeria demands responsible digital engagement, the same way we regulate banking, telecoms, and oil multinationals.”

0

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Friday, said those who questioned and challenged his educational qualifications during the 2023 electioneering campaign have been put to shame.

Governor Oborevwori disclosed this when he played host to members of the Executive Committee of the Alumni Association of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Worldwide, who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba.

According to him, “some persons who were bent on tarnishing my image during the 2023 electioneering campaign, went around saying that I did not go to school.”

Governor Oborevwori, said: “I am greatly honoured for the Hero award and the award of Excellence that you bestowed on me. I sincerely appreciate everything.

“I have a lot of regards for Ambrose Alli University, AAU. There was a time during the political season when they said that l did not go to school. You know in politics, there is a lot of blackmail.

“I did a full time programme at AAU. I am a man with excessive local content. I believe in Nigeria and in this state.

“I graduated with 2:1 after my BSc. I was a student who doesn’t make noise; and today, all my course mates at Ekpoma still support me.

“Not only that, I did my MSc programme full time in Delta State University, Abraka. I was among the pioneer students of MSc and I value it.

“The University stood by me all through the court case that even the opposition lawyers were shocked. I still have my matriculation number.

“So, when people are talking, I just laugh. Those days at Ekpoma, we looked for water to bathe before going to class.

“We thought we were suffering then. But today, when you pass through Ekpoma, there is no way you will not do well in life.

“I am proud that I graduated from that University and that I am the first to be a governor from that University.”

He assured members of the association that he will give his personal donation to support the association’s ongoing building project in the University, reiterating that he was so grateful for their visit.

Gov. Oborevwori tasks Team Delta on victory as NDSF torch lands Asaba

0

The Niger Delta Sports Festival (NDSF) Torch, Wednesday made a stopover in Asaba, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori urging Team Delta to re-enact the state’s dominance in sports at the maiden games holding in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state.

Receiving the torch, Governor Oborevwori said his administration remains ever committed to grassroots sports development and youth engagement.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the Governor appreciated the leadership of the NDDC for bringing up the novel idea of the Sports Festival.

He reiterated the state’s dominance in sports competitions in the country saying, “I do not have any doubt in my mind that that number one position is something that we will still bring back by the time you end up with the competition in Uyo.

“Just as we are blessed with oil that has become the greatest sustenance of the Nigerian nation, we are also blessed with talents that have also showcased our country to the world.

“As a people in the Niger Delta region, particularly in Delta, where we have maintained number one position in sports, we are quite convinced that our participation in this particular fiesta will indeed further showcase who we are as a people.

“Like it is always said, ‘Delta nor dey carry last’ and so we are quite convinced that you are going to do what you are known for.”

He said the presentation of the festival torch represents much more than the beginning of an exciting sports competition, saying; “it signifies unity, resilience, and the boundless potential of our great region.

“The Niger Delta has always been a land of champions, from football to athletics, from wrestling to weightlifting, our people have consistently demonstrated excellence, not just at the national level, but also on the global stage.

“This festival is yet another opportunity to celebrate that heritage, as well as discover fresh talents and reaffirm our commitment to making sports a very vital tool for youth empowerment, peace building, and economic development.

“Sports is more than just a contest of strength, skill, and intelligence. It is a unifying force that transcends language, ethnicity, and borders.

“Through sports, we bridge the divides, foster friendship, and create lasting bonds that strengthen the fabric of our society.

“As we gather here today, let us be reminded that despite the diversity of our sports, we are bound together by a common purpose, to build a Niger Delta that is prosperous, peaceful, and full of opportunities for our young people.

“Delta State has always been at the forefront of Nigerian sports. We have produced world-class athletes who have made Nigeria proud at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and other international tournaments.

“This is why my administration remains unwavering in its commitment to supporting sports development. We are investing in sports infrastructure, grassroot programs, and talent development initiatives to ensure that our young people can think big and achieve greatness.

“This festival is not just about competition, it is about the spirit of excellence. It is about discipline and teamwork.”

He urged the athletes to compete with passion, fairness, and respect for one another and give their best not just for themselves, but for the state and the entire Niger Delta.

“Win with humility, lose with grace and let the lessons you learn at the games prepare you to greater heights in the Niger Delta.

“May this torch ignite in every athlete the determination to strive for greatness, in every coach the dedication to natural talents

and in every fan the passion to support and celebrate excellence,” he said.

Earlier, Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Onoriode Oborevwori, said the State had prepared adequately for the games starting from April 1 to April 8.

He said: “In our preparation for this games a selection process began with the local government trials where talented athletes showcased their skills and the top performers from each local government then proceeded to the state’s trials where they competed against other top athletes.

“From the state trials, the best athletes were carefully selected and invited to the state’s camp where they will undergo intensive training and preparation for the festival.

“This selection process ensures that only the most talented and dedicated athletes represent Delta State at the festival and they will be competing in 17 sporting events in Uyo.

“We hope that they will make a name for themselves and make Delta State proud by making the games amazing.”

Reason Senate Appointed Senator Nwoko, Chairman Senate C’ttee On Crude Oil Theft

By Kenneth Orusi

Crude oil theft remains one of Nigeria’s most pressing economic and security challenges, bleeding the nation of billions in revenue annually and weakening the sustainability of its oil-dependent economy.

In response, the Nigerian Senate has stepped up its efforts to confront the scourge head-on, culminating in the recent constitution of an Ad-Hoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft.

At the helm of this crucial committee is Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District.

While the appointment has drawn both praise and scrutiny, a closer examination reveals strategic reasoning behind the Senate’s decision, reflecting a blend of political calculation, regional representation, and Senator Nwoko’s credentials.

1. Regional Proximity to the Problem

Senator Nwoko hails from Delta State, a core area of the Niger Delta where oil production is most prominent.

His senatorial district lies at the heart of the region’s oil pipeline networks, making him an insider to the socio-economic, and political dynamics of oil exploration in the Niger Delta.

By appointing a senator from an oil-producing region, the Senate ensures that the committee’s leadership is both geographically and contextually connected to the problem.

This move also signals a commitment to localizing the fight against oil theft by involving stakeholders with first-hand knowledge and vested interests in restoring sanity to the sector.

2. Legal and Policy Acumen

Senator Nwoko, a lawyer and former member of the House of Representatives, brings a wealth of legislative and legal experience.

His background in international law and advocacy, particularly on financial and anti-corruption matters, positions him as someone capable of leading a nuanced investigation into oil theft, which often involves complex networks of local and international actors.

His investigation and legal warfare leading to the recovery of $20bn as Paris Club Refunds to Nigeria shows his expertise in dealing with certain critical national issues and finding solutions to them.

The Senate is banking on Nwoko’s capacity to navigate the legal frameworks, security challenges, and economic intricacies associated with oil theft, and to propose actionable reforms.

3. Public Image and Reformist Outlook

Since joining the 10th Senate, Senator Nwoko has projected himself as a progressive voice, often aligning with initiatives aimed at transparency, good governance, and national development.

His appointment sends a message that the Senate is prioritizing reform-minded leadership in tackling systemic problems like oil theft.

His public stance on critical national issues, including revenue generation and youth empowerment, also aligns with the broader need to address oil theft not just through enforcement, but also by creating alternative livelihoods for restive youth in the Niger Delta.

4. Political Strategy and Balancing Interests

The Senate’s leadership under Senate President Godswill Akpabio has had to manage diverse interests from various zones.

Appointing Senator Nwoko to chair this sensitive committee could also be seen as a move to balance political representation and strengthen the Senate’s presence in Delta State and the South-South zone.

Given the significance of oil theft to national revenue loss, the leadership likely saw the need for a chairperson who could bridge regional concerns with national interests, a role Senator Nwoko is poised to play effectively.

5. A Test of Capacity and Commitment

This appointment also presents Senator Nwoko with a political and legislative litmus test.

Leading a high-stakes committee like this will require more than rhetorics, it demands result-driven leadership, coordination with security agencies, engagement with oil companies, and a bold stance against entrenched interests.

It is both a recognition of his potential and a challenge to deliver measurable outcomes in a space where previous efforts have often failed or fallen short.

Conclusion: A Strategic Appointment at a Critical Time

With Nigeria is losing an estimated 400,000 barrels of crude oil daily to theft, the stakes have never been higher.

The Senate’s appointment of Senator Nwoko as Chairman of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft is not just about political positioning, it is about entrusting a key national security and economic issue to a figure with regional credibility, legal expertise, and reformist ideals.

His appointment signals a renewed Senate focus on crude oil theft, a crime that has for too long been a drain on Nigeria’s economic future.

Delta State Capital Territory Sanitation Advocacy Campaign to Continue Until Full Compliance – Ukah

By Chibuzor Ogode

The Director General  of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), Patrick Ukah, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustaining the Sanitation Advocacy Campaign across the Capital Territory until all residents adopt and maintain proper environmental sanitation and hygiene practices. He emphasized that significant resources and manpower have been deployed to ensure the campaign’s success.

During the third day of the community-based sanitation exercise and sensitization program, Mr. Vincent Okwofadjeke, DSCTDA’s Manager of Administration and Finance, addressed market traders at Ogbogonogo Market.

He stressed that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility essential for preventing the spread of diseases.

Mr. Isaac Nwoso, Head of Environment, and Mr. John Ijedie, Manager of Investment and Business Promotions, accompanied him. Taskforce Officers and other DSCTDA staff were also present to oversee the second phase of the “Secured Clean and Green” exercise.

As part of the initiative, task force officers cleared drainage systems at Akpo Junction by desilting blocked channels, with waste trucks promptly removing the debris.

Vincent Okwofadjeke explained that the current cleanup exercise follows up on last year’s “Secured Clean and Green” campaign, reinforcing the need for a consistently clean environment to safeguard the socio-economic well-being of all residents.

While engaging with traders at Ogbogonogo Market, Okwofadjeke reminded them that the market had previously been shut down due to unsanitary conditions. He urged them to take proactive steps to keep their surroundings clean, properly dispose of waste, and refrain from street trading.

“As we all know, many diseases spread through contaminated water and food due to poor sanitation practices such as open defecation, improper waste management, and lack of personal hygiene. Therefore, sanitation must become a daily practice, not just an activity reserved for Thursdays,” he stated.

Similarly, Mr. Isaac Nwoso, Head of Environment at DSCTDA, emphasized that the cleanup exercise would extend to various public spaces, including markets, to encourage sustainable sanitation practices among residents.

He reiterated that the agency’s advocacy efforts aim to instill voluntary and long-term compliance with proper waste management practices.

Speaking on the campaign’s economic and health benefits, Mr. John Ijedie, Manager of Investment and Business Promotions, highlighted that raising awareness about sanitation practices is crucial in preventing communicable diseases.

“If we take care of our environment, it will, in turn, take care of us, improving overall health and increasing our life expectancy,” he stated. He urged residents to take ownership of their environment by maintaining cleanliness and reporting unsanitary behaviors, as the government cannot continually monitor every location.

DSCTDA Director General Patrick Ukah further stressed the importance of waste bin ownership in every household within Asaba and encouraged residents to support the Public Sector Partnership (PSP) operators for proper waste disposal. According to him, economic activities across the metropolis will thrive if all residents adhere to sanitation best practices.

In his contribution, the Ugoani of Okpanam, HRM Michael Mbanefo, pledged his support in enforcing the sanitation campaign within the Okpanam Kingdom when the team visited his palace. He referenced the biblical principle that “cleanliness is next to godliness” and urged the community to actively participate in maintaining a clean and safe environment. Additionally, he emphasized that security is a collective responsibility and expressed gratitude to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for the various ongoing road projects in Okpanam and beyond.

So far, the sanitation advocacy campaign has covered key locations within the Capital Territory, including Textile Mill Road, Mamie Market, Ogbogonogo Market, Nnebisi Road, Interbau Roundabout, Akpo Junction, Stadium, Okpanam City Gate, and Okpanam Post Office.

Through continuous engagement and enforcement, DSCTDA remains committed to ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more habitable environment for all residents.

This was contained in a letter addressed to the president and made available to journalists on Sunday.

In his words, “these projects are of immense strategic importance, not only for the South-South and South-East regions but for Nigeria as a whole.”

According to the federal lawmaker, by prioritizing their execution, his administration “has reaffirmed its commitment to economic integration, national cohesion, and infrastructural renewal.”

He continued: “The Asaba-Benin Expressway, in particular, has been a major source of concern due to its dilapidated state and the severe hardship it has imposed on commuters and businesses.

“As a senator representing Delta North, I have persistently engaged the Federal Ministry of Works on this matter, advocating for urgent intervention. I formally wrote to the Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. (Engr.) David Nweze Umahi, and pressed for immediate remedial measures.

“It is gratifying to see that these efforts, backed by your leadership’s responsiveness, have resulted in tangible progress, with the project duly accommodated in the national budget.

“The urgency of rehabilitating our federal roads has also been reinforced at the legislative level. The Senate, under the leadership of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, has recognized the dire state of federal roads nationwide and, as a matter of national importance, passed a resolution mandating their maintenance and rehabilitation.

“The Senate Committee on Works, where I serve as a member, has taken a firm position that all national roads must be reconstructed and revitalized to boost economic activities, reduce accidents, and ensure safer, more efficient transportation across the country.

“In light of the nation’s current fiscal constraints, we feel deeply grateful that our region is among the first to receive this much-needed intervention.”

Nwoko said further: “Your administration’s keen attention to critical infrastructure speaks to a broader vision of sustainable development and economic expansion.

“The flag-off of these projects will not only enhance connectivity between Delta, Anambra, Edo, and beyond but will also catalyze commercial activities and ease transportation burdens. For this, the people of Delta North and the entire region remain deeply grateful.”

He also commended the Honourable Minister of Works, Sen. (Engr.) David Nweze Umahi, “for his hands-on approach and unwavering commitment to delivering quality infrastructure across the country,” adding that “his efforts in ensuring that projects of national importance receive due attention have been truly commendable.”

“As a representative of my people, I have taken it upon myself to expedite these critical projects, knowing their far-reaching benefits. The progress we celebrate today is not just a personal milestone but a collective triumph for our region.

“I look forward to continued collaboration with your administration in advancing initiatives that will uplift our people and drive sustainable development,” the senator stated.

“You Have Changed the Narrative, Your Confidence is Unmatched” —Asagba of Asaba Tells Senator Ned Nwoko

0

The senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, has received royal commendation and backing for his legislative efforts, particularly his push for the creation of Anioma State.

During a courtesy visit to the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty, Obi (Prof) Epiphany C. Azinge, at his Abuja residence on Saturday, the traditional ruler praised the senator’s dedication and legislative impact.

ASAGBA COMMENDS NWOKO’s PERFORMANCE IN THE SENATE

Welcoming Senator Nwoko, the Asagba of Asaba lauded his vibrancy, commitment, and legislative prowess, noting that he has been one of the most active lawmakers in the current Senate.

“I commend you so much for all you have been doing. You have always been vibrant and focused, always wanting to touch the lives of your constituents. I have followed the Senate activities with keen interest, and I note you are one of the senators that has moved the highest number of Bills within this short period of your sojourn as a senator.

“That is what we want to hear about our representatives— that their voices are being heard, that they are visionaries in their own rights, and certainly that they are good representatives of their people,” Asagba stated.

‘YOU HAVE BROUGHT ANIOMA STATE TO THE FRONT BURNER’

The traditional ruler lauded Senator Nwoko’s commitment to the Anioma cause, emphasizing that he had elevated the agitation for Anioma State to a national and international discourse.

“Distinguished Senator, there is nobody that cannot praise you for the commitment you have demonstrated in the pursuit of Anioma State. You have brought it to the front burner of national discourse, if not international discourse. You have pursued it with zeal, passion, enthusiasm, and a lot of commitment.

“You have done so brilliantly in that regard. Even anybody with the slightest iota of doubt will see reasons in the way that you have pursued it”, he said.

Asagba Azinge admitted that while his earlier stance was that those who opposed Asaba as Delta State capital should seek their own state, Senator Ned Nwoko’s approach had changed the narrative.

“My position hitherto was that those who never wanted Asaba as Delta capital can go and look for their own state. We shouldn’t be the ones doing the job. But you changed the narrative, and it is for us to buckle down and support you. If seeking Anioma is the way you feel we should go, fine, we will queue behind you and support you”, he declared.

‘WE WILL STAND BEHIND YOU HOWEVER  IT GOES’

The traditional ruler emphasized the importance of territorial delineation, stating that the people of Anioma are not willing to be merged across the Niger, and urged for Anioma that will still remain in the South-South.

However, despite this, he pledged Asaba’s unwavering support whichever way the state creation goes.

“…whichever way it goes, know that we from Asaba will always queue behind you, we will be your cheerleaders, supporting you.

“Invite us for your public hearing, we will come. Whatever it is, we will make a formidable case that will be difficult to puncture in order to support you and your submission.

“I commend you immensely for all that you have been doing. We know it has not been easy, but the way you have been navigating shows the caliber of person you are at any point in time. Your confidence is indescribable, to say the least.

“My prayers, wherever I am, is that the land of Asaba will always continue to support you, guide you in a way and manner that most of your visions and dreams for our people will come to fruition.”

SENATOR NWOKO: ‘ANIOMA STATE ENCOMPASSES ONLY DELTA NORTH’

In his response, Senator Ned Nwoko reiterated that the proposed Anioma State consists strictly of the nine local government areas (LGAs) of Delta North.

“It is important to note that when our forefathers started this struggle, there was nothing like zoning in Nigeria. It later came just as a political nomenclature to address some imbalances in zoning some important offices in Nigeria—Office of the President, the Vice President, the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker.

“Anioma is in South-South, but what do we have in common with Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, or Edo that we currently share the same zone with? The idea of being part of the South-East should not be confused with our identity,” Senator Ned Nwoko clarified.

Senator Ned Nwoko Mourns Edwin Clark…Says his courage, patriotism unsurpassed

BY OVASA OGAGA

, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of elder statesman Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, describing him as an irreplaceable pillar of the Niger Delta and Nigeria.

During a condolence visit to the home of the late Ijaw leader, Senator Nwoko reflected on Pa Clark’s unwavering dedication to justice and the advancement of the South-South region.

“It is hard to imagine the South-South without Pa Edwin Clark. He was fierce—fiercely loyal, fiercely courageous. He stood for what we believed in and never wavered”, Nwoko stated, paying homage to the late nationalist’s resilience and principles.

The Senator praised Pa Clark’s sharp intellect and unshakable convictions, recalling his ability to stand firm in the face of power and corruption.

“Sometimes, when I speak, I think of him—his resilience, his audacity. A man who could have been easily swayed by power, yet he chose to lead the fight against corruption”, Nwoko said.

He further emphasized the late leader’s extraordinary memory and sharpness, even in old age.

“His memory amazed me. He had his own mind, never mixed facts, and even in his 90s, his clarity was unmatched. He was different. There will never be another like him. I don’t know anyone as bold, as fearless, or as deeply patriotic”, Nwoko noted.

Expressing his personal sense of loss, the Senator admitted that Pa Clark’s passing still felt surreal.

“I thought he would live forever. His passing still doesn’t feel real. Until the very end, his mind was sharp, his spirit unshaken”, he said.

Nwoko concluded his tribute with prayers for the departed elder statesman, affirming that his legacy would endure.

“May his kind soul find eternal rest. He will be deeply missed, forever remembered”, he said.

Pa Edwin Clark, a former Federal Commissioner for Information and a prominent voice in Nigeria’s political landscape, was a staunch advocate for the rights of the Niger Delta and a fearless critic of injustice.

His passing marks the end of an era for the region and the country at large.

BREAKING NEWS: Court Throws Out Bid To Sack Senator Nwoko Over Defection, Declares Claimant Had No Legal Standing

By Kenneth Orusi

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Marvis Ossai seeking to unseat Senator Ned Munir Nwoko following his recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, March 19, the court declared the case incompetent and lacking merit, asserting that it had no jurisdiction to entertain such a claim.

The suit, which was rejected outright, sought to nullify Senator Nwoko’s Certificate of Return and declare the Delta North Senatorial seat vacant on account of his switch in political allegiance.

However, Justice A.H. Musa, presiding over the matter, ruled that the claimant, Marvis Ossai, had no locus standi (legal right) to file the case, and that the lawsuit itself was fatally flawed and legally void.

In a decisive move, the judge dismissed the suit rather than merely striking it out, effectively barring any future resurrection of the case on similar frivolous grounds.

The ruling was a complete victory for Senator Nwoko, who had argued through his legal team that the court lacked the authority to adjudicate such political matters, particularly when no constitutional breach had been established.

This judgment marks a significant legal setback for opposition elements seeking to challenge Nwoko’s seat through the courts, as the ruling reinforces the constitutional protections around the tenure of elected officials.

Today, as a senator, businessman, and philanthropist, his scholarly foundation continues to influence his approach to governance, legal reforms, and humanitarian efforts, making him one of Nigeria’s most accomplished intellectual and political figures.

BY JOE OGBODU

A bill sponsored by Senator Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta North) aimed at amending the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 towards the regulation of social media platforms operating in the country, has passed its second reading at the Nigerian Senate.

The bill christened “An Act to Alter the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023, LFN, to Mandate the Establishment of Physical Offices within the Territorial Boundaries of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by Social Media Platforms, and for Related Matters, 2024”, which was read for the first time on Thursday, November 21, 2024, when passed into law would mandates social media platforms, data controllers, and data processors to establish physical offices within Nigeria’s territorial boundaries.

The bill’s primary objective is to address the challenges posed by the absence of local offices for social media giants in Nigeria.

Leading the debate on the proposal which he described as “not only of national importance but is also central to Nigeria’s sovereignty, economy, and technological development”, on Tuesday, Senator Ned Nwoko, said that the Bill seeks to correct a glaring omission in how multinational social media companies engage with our country.

Senator Nwoko emphasized the importance of social media platforms having a physical presence in Nigeria, citing the country’s user base and the value generated from Nigerian participation.

He said that the challenges posed by absence of physical offices of the social media giants include limited local representation, missed economic opportunities, and difficulties in enforcing data protection laws.

“Our dear nation, Nigeria, is not just the most populous country in Africa; we are also one of the most active when it comes to digital engagement. With over 220 million people, social media has become an essential part of our daily lives.”

Quoting the Global Web Index as reported by Business Insider Africa, Senator Nwoko posited that Nigerians rank first in Africa and second globally in terms of daily social media usage, spending an average of 3 hours and 46 minutes online.

“Platforms such as Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, and Snapchat have become indispensable to millions of our people”, he said.

According to him, despite the enormous user base and the value generated from Nigerian participation, these multinational corporations have no physical offices in Nigeria, adding that this stands in sharp contrast to their presence in other countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Singapore, and Australia, where they maintain offices to address regional concerns, manage content policies, and build partnerships.

He noted that multinational corporations like MTN, Shell, Chevron, Nestlé, and Total have thrived in Nigeria by establishing local offices, creating jobs, and enriching the workforce through training and partnerships.

He, however, lamented that the absence of physical offices has deprived the nation of numerous opportunities pointing out that economically, it denies Nigeria the benefits of job creation in areas such as customer service, content moderation, legal compliance, and marketing.

“Imagine the thousands of young Nigerians who could be employed by these companies, gaining valuable skills and contributing to our economy. Technology transfer is another area where Nigeria stands to benefit immensely. Countries like China and South Korea became leaders in electronics and automobile manufacturing by fostering local partnerships with foreign firms and adapting their technologies.

“If these social media giants establish a local presence, Nigerian engineers, developers, and tech professionals will have the opportunity to learn from some of the best minds in the world and adapt cutting-edge technologies, he reiterated.

While saying that the bill, is not an attack on the platforms, he said “it is a call for equity and fairness. It is a demand for respect and recognition of Nigeria’s status as a global leader in digital engagement”.

How Senator Nwoko’s Defection Added Colour To Delta APC

By Kenneth Orusi

The political landscape of Delta State witnessed a significant shake-up with the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that has not only energized the party’s base but also shifted the balance of power in the state’s political dynamics.

Senator Nwoko, known for his widespread influence, philanthropic strides, and grassroots connection, brought with him a vibrant political presence and a substantial following from across Delta North and beyond.

His entry into the APC has been described by political observers as a “game-changer” ahead of future electoral contests, particularly as the party positions itself as a formidable alternative in Delta State.

Beyond the symbolic weight of his defection, Senator Nwoko’s move has attracted supporters, party loyalists, and neutral observers who see in him a unifying figure with the potential to bridge gaps within the APC and galvanize broader support across ethnic and regional lines.

His political style, marked by accessibility, a focus on youth empowerment, and developmental advocacy, adds fresh appeal to the party, especially among young voters and first-time participants in politics.

In the weeks following his defection, the APC in Delta has seen a surge in membership registration and increased activity at ward and local government levels, particularly in Delta North, where Nwoko’s influence is strongest.

His presence at party meetings and rallies has drawn large crowds, infusing renewed energy into the APC’s public engagements.

Party insiders have lauded Nwoko’s decision as a colourful boost that not only enhances the party’s image but also brings a new level of seriousness to its ambition of taking over the reins of leadership in Delta.

“Nwoko’s entry into the APC would bolster the party’s influence in Delta State, especially as the region now boasts three APC senators, giving the party a strategic edge,” said Chief Emma Ejiofor, an APC chieftain.

As Delta APC gears up for future elections, Senator Nwoko’s defection is seen as a strategic advantage, positioning the party to challenge the status quo more effectively.

While challenges remain, especially in harmonizing diverse interests within the party, Nwoko’s entry offers a unique opportunity for consolidation and growth.

In a state where political loyalty often shifts with changing tides, Senator Nwoko’s move has undoubtedly added colour, character, and momentum to Delta APC’s journey toward greater relevance and possible dominance in the political arena.

Commendations Trail Efforts of Senators Nwoko, Dafinone, Onowakpo, Hon. Waive on Okuama crisis

By Kenneth Orusi

The intervention of Senators Ned Nwoko, Ede Dafinone, and Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, alongside Rt. Hon. Francis Waive, in the Okuama crisis has drawn commendations from various quarters.

Their roles in addressing the violence that erupted in the Delta community have been recognized as crucial in de-escalating tensions and pushing for justice.

The lawmakers, representing different constituencies in Delta State, were actively involved in legislative and diplomatic efforts following the tragic killing of soldiers and the subsequent military invasion of Okuama.

Their advocacy for peace, justice, and rehabilitation of affected communities has been widely acknowledged.

Legislative Actions and Advocacy

Senator Nwoko, representing Delta North, was among the first to call for a thorough investigation into the killings, urging authorities to ensure that innocent civilians were not caught in the aftermath.

He emphasized the need for a balanced approach that prioritizes security without violating human rights.

Senator Dafinone (Delta Central) and Senator Onowakpo (Delta South) similarly pushed for the protection of civilians and sought assurances from security agencies that due process would be followed.

Their calls for transparency in the military’s response were seen as an attempt to prevent further humanitarian crises.

It would be recall that in April 2024, a significant event unfolded in Delta State, Nigeria, involving the detention and subsequent release of His Royal Majesty, King Clement Ikolo, Urhukpe I, the monarch of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The monarch’s detention was linked to a tragic incident in Okuama community, where 17 military personnel lost their lives.

Following the incident, the Nigerian Army declared King Ikolo and seven others wanted.

Demonstrating his commitment to due process, the monarch voluntarily surrendered to the Delta State Police Command, which subsequently handed him over to military authorities for investigation.

The monarch’s detention prompted swift action from Delta State’s political representatives. Senators Ede Dafinone (Delta Central), Ned Nwoko (Delta North), and Joel Onowakpo-Thomas (Delta South) engaged with military authorities to advocate for the king’s release.

Their concerted efforts culminated in a meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Musa, and other military officials.

On April 19, 2024, the Nigerian Army released King Ikolo into the custody of Senator Dafinone, who acted as a surety, ensuring the monarch’s availability for any further investigations.

The release was formalized at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, where the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, emphasized that while preliminary investigations had not conclusively established the monarch’s culpability, the inquiry remained ongoing.

Showing his appreciation, the traditional ruler of Ewu-Urhobo Kingdom His Royal Majesty (HRM), Clement Ikolo, Urhukpe I, expressed gratitude to Senator Ned Nwoko, the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly (NASS), for his pivotal role in securing the recent release of an Okuama leader who had been detained by the military for several months.

In a release on Sunday December 29, 2024, the monarch commended Senator Nwoko for his unwavering commitment to addressing the concerns of the Okuama people and his tireless efforts in promoting peace and fostering reconciliation.

The release reads in part: “We are grateful for the timely intervention and support of Senator Nwoko, which led to the release of one of the community leaders.

“His actions have not only brought relief to Okuama community but have also reaffirmed our faith in collaborative leadership,” the monarch said.

Rt. Hon. Francis Waive, representing the Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency, took his concerns to the House of Representatives, advocating for urgent government intervention in resettling displaced residents.

He also pressed for security reforms to prevent a recurrence of such violence.

As investigations into the Okuama crisis continue, the role of these lawmakers will remain critical. Advocacy for justice, reconstruction efforts, and long-term peacebuilding measures will determine the effectiveness of their intervention.

For now, their efforts have been noted, but expectations remain high for concrete results.

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW/REJOINDER BY SENATOR (PRINCE) NED NWOKO ON THE SENATE VS. SENATOR NATASHA MATTER

Defending the Senate’s Integrity Against Emotional Manipulation and Misrepresentation

Distinguished Nigerians,

It is important that we separate facts from sensationalism and resist the growing trend of exploiting gender sentiments to mask disorderly conduct within the Senate. The legislative chamber is not a battleground for personal grievances or emotional outbursts but a place of order, debate, and democratic principles.

The recent outcry over the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has been twisted into a false narrative of victimization and suppression. Let it be clear: what was before the Senate was not her petition—something she herself has confirmed—but her conduct on the Senate floor, which violated the decorum expected of lawmakers.

“Seat Reallocation Is a Standard Senate Practice”

The issue started with a simple matter—seat reallocation. This is a normal and longstanding practice in the Senate. I have personally been moved three times.

Here’s how it works:

Whenever a senator leaves for any reason—whether due to death, defection, or other circumstances—there is an adjustment in the seating arrangement. This happens across both party lines, and it is not targeted at any individual. The idea is to ensure that seats are properly arranged based on seniority, party balance, and Senate rules.

For instance, a ranking senator sits in the front row. If that senator leaves, a new member cannot just take that seat. Instead, everyone shifts accordingly. It is a process where multiple senators move to achieve the right balance.

Everybody moves. Not just one person. The movement is done in a way that maintains the structure of the Senate. A fresher does not just sit where a senior senator was. The arrangement is reshuffled in a way that ensures order and respects seniority.

This is a routine adjustment that happens all the time. It is not a new practice. It is not targeted at any one person. It is simply how the Senate works.

“Senator Natasha Refused to Move and Caused a Disruption”

On that day, Senator Natasha was asked to move to a new seat. Instead of complying, she refused. That, in itself, was already an issue because every other senator understands that seating changes happen regularly.

But what followed was even more concerning. She became uncontrollable, raising her voice, shouting, “I am not scared of you!” We all saw the video. That display was completely uncalled for.

At that moment, it was no longer about a seat—it was about discipline, order, and respect for the institution. If every senator decided to resist a simple procedural adjustment in that manner, the Senate would be ungovernable.

“The Senate Followed Due Process”

After that incident, the Senate Committee on Ethics invited her for a disciplinary hearing. That is the proper procedure. The committee heard from those who were present that day, and all agreed that she had acted in an unruly manner. The report that was submitted was clear—her conduct on the floor was unacceptable, and she should be suspended.

I personally reached out to her during this process. I sent her messages because, as a lawyer, I know that before any judgment is passed, a person must be given an opportunity to state their case.

I asked her:
“Are you prepared to apologize so that I can speak on your behalf? Ask that you be given the opportunity to apologize.”

She responded that she did no wrong.

That didn’t stop me. I told her directly: You are wrong. I watched the video. I saw what happened. The report before us was not about any sexual harassment claim—it was strictly about her disorderly conduct.

Misogyny Is Not the Issue—Disorderly Conduct Is

Some voices are trying to frame this as an attack on women in politics. That is a manipulation of the truth. Nigeria has many strong female leaders who have made their mark through discipline, strategic engagement, and respect for institutional processes. The Senate is not and has never been against women.

However, no lawmaker—man or woman—is above the rules of the chamber. The issue here is not gender; it is the expectation that all Senators must conduct themselves with decorum and respect for the institution they serve. The rules of engagement apply equally to all members, and when a Senator repeatedly flouts those rules, there must be consequences.

“The Allegations of Sexual Harassment Were Never Before the Senate”

One thing that must be made clear is that the Senate did not deliberate on any sexual harassment allegations. That matter is before the courts, and the courts will decide.

It is highly unlikely that she will win such a case, because the alleged incident supposedly happened over a year ago. She had multiple opportunities to report it to the Senate, the police, or any authority, yet she did not.

Even after this alleged incident, she traveled multiple times with the Senate President for international events, well-documented online. She was in the same spaces as him, attended meetings with him, and was often with her husband during these trips.

To now come forward and narrow these allegations to a particular day, a particular time—when her husband was within range, when other people were present, when the Senate President’s wife was in the family house—raises serious questions. It is highly unlikely that such discussions would take place in such a setting.

The Senate Must Uphold Discipline and Order

The Senate is not a chaotic town hall where emotions dictate decisions. There are clear procedures for addressing grievances, presenting petitions, and debating national issues. Senator Natasha was not sanctioned for submitting a petition—she was sanctioned for her behavior on the Senate floor.

If we allow sentiments to override discipline, the Senate will become ungovernable. This is not about suppressing opposition or silencing voices; it is about maintaining the dignity of the institution and ensuring that every member adheres to the same standards of conduct.

“Exploiting Feminine Sentiments for Political Gain”

It is disingenuous to claim that this is a case of gender-based suppression when the facts point to a different reality. The real danger is allowing the rules to be bent simply because a particular lawmaker chooses to play the victim card when confronted with the consequences of their actions.

Leadership comes with responsibility. Every Senator, regardless of gender, must conduct themselves in a manner that upholds the integrity of the Red Chamber. If we start excusing unruly behavior because of gender, then we are setting a dangerous precedent where rules become optional based on emotional appeal.

“The Role of Her Husband in This Escalation”

I was also deeply disappointed by the reaction of her husband. I had expected him to find a way to de-escalate the matter, to prevent it from becoming a full-blown crisis.

When he sent me his statement and reaction, I told him exactly how I felt. If my wife were in such a situation, I would do everything possible to resolve the issue privately, to manage it in a way that does not cause further division.

It is even more surprising because her husband has been friends with the Senate President long before he married Natasha. This could have been settled without this level of unnecessary public drama.

Conclusion: The Senate Must Stand Firm

The Senate must not bow to emotional blackmail or social media outrage fueled by half-truths. Nigeria’s democracy thrives when its institutions are strong, disciplined, and governed by rules—not when they are manipulated to serve personal or partisan interests.

We must ensure that the principles of accountability, order, and respect remain the guiding forces of our legislative process. This is not about silencing anyone; it is about ensuring that the Senate remains a place of reasoned debate, not theatrical disruptions.

Senator (Prince) Ned Munir Nwoko
Senator, Delta North

“I will always carry Anioma peoples concerns in my heart and my work.” Senator Nwoko

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

In the heart of Delta North, a beacon of hope shines brightly for the Anioma people, and that beacon is none other than Senator Ned Munir Nwoko. Known for his unwavering dedication to the region’s progress, Senator Nwoko has quickly become the most vocal advocate for Anioma in the Nigerian Senate. His leadership is defined by a selfless commitment to improving the lives of the Anioma people, focusing on tangible development, infrastructure, and essential services.

A Voice for the Anioma People

What sets Senator Ned Nwoko apart from other politicians is his deep-rooted connection to the Anioma people and his sincere desire to see the region thrive. Unlike many who have represented Delta North in the past, Senator Nwoko’s agenda is not driven by personal gain. His efforts are motivated by a sense of duty to serve and uplift his people. And their total happiness is his goal. In his own words, “I am not here to make wealth or seek personal gain, but to ensure that my people have access to basic amenities and opportunities for a better life.”

This commitment to selfless service resonates not only in his speeches but also in the actions he takes. For the one year and nine months he has been in office, Senator Nwoko has proven that he is not a politician who delivers empty promises; he is a hands-on leader actively working to address the issues that matter most to the Anioma people.

Addressing Critical Issues

The Anioma region has faced numerous challenges over the years, from inadequate infrastructure to a lack of basic services like water and electricity. Senator Nwoko has made it his priority to address these issues head-on, presenting a vision that promises real change for the people he represents.

One of the most pressing issues in the region has been access to clean water. The Ogwashi Uku Dam, a vital water source for many communities in Anioma, has long been in need of completion. Senator Nwoko has taken significant steps to ensure that the dam is completed and begin operation, thereby improving water supply to numerous communities in the area. This project will have a profound impact on the day-to-day lives of the Anioma people, making clean and reliable water accessible to all.

In addition to water, Nwoko has focused on improving the region’s infrastructure. The Oko area in Oshimili South, in particular, has suffered from poor road conditions, hindering transportation and access to vital services. The condition of the road has made life uncomfortable for the people. Senator Nwoko is championing the cause for better roads, which will not only ease mobility but also enhance economic activities in the region. These infrastructure improvements will have a multiplier effect, increasing access to markets, healthcare, and education, thus fostering overall community growth.

Another key area where Nwoko has made significant strides is in the provision of electricity. So far, he has provided solar street lights to some communities in the region. The Okpai Power Plant, located in Ndokwa land, has the potential to supply power to thousands of homes and businesses. However, like many other infrastructure projects, it has faced its share of challenges over the years. Senator Nwoko has been in the forefront advocating for the stepdown of the power plant, ensuring that the region benefits from reliable electricity. By tackling the power issue, Nwoko is not only contributing to the development of Anioma but also fostering an environment conducive to job creation and economic growth.

A Senator Who Is Truly Present

Senator Nwoko’s leadership goes beyond the walls of the Senate; he is deeply involved with the Anioma people. While many politicians make promises during campaigns, Nwoko did not only make promises but is ready to fulfill all his promises. He regularly listens to their concerns  and offers solutions to needs of the people. His ability to connect with the people and understand their needs sets him apart from others.

“The Anioma people deserve a leadership that listens to them, understands their needs, and takes action on their behalf. I will always carry their concerns in my heart and my work,” Nwoko said during a recent meeting with local leaders.

This level of dedication is rare in politics, and it’s a testament to Nwoko’s genuine desire to improve the lives of those he serves. Whether it’s advocating for better healthcare, supporting local education initiatives, or ensuring that the people of Anioma have access to the most basic of services, Nwoko’s leadership has consistently reflected his commitment to the welfare of the people.

A Future Full of Possibilities

With his clear vision for the future, Senator Nwoko has set the stage for a prosperous Anioma. His plans for the region are comprehensive, addressing critical areas like water, electricity, infrastructure, and economic development. He has shown time and time again that his focus is on the long-term well-being of the Anioma people, rather than short-term political gains.

As the Anioma people look toward the future, it is evident that Senator Ned Nwoko is the leader they need. His unwavering commitment to their cause, his pragmatic approach to governance, and his tireless efforts to address the region’s most pressing issues make him the ideal representative for Delta North.

A Call to Support

For the Anioma people, the path to a better future lies in continuing to support Senator Nwoko. His leadership has already brought significant progress to the region, and with sustained backing from his constituents, the potential for even greater achievements is limitless.

“Together, we can achieve greatness. I ask for your continued support to make Anioma the best it can be,” Nwoko concluded in a recent address to his supporters. His message is clear: progress for Anioma land is possible when everyone stands together.

Senator Nwoko is not just a politician; he is a true leader who has shown time and again that his loyalty lies with the Anioma people and their future. It’s time for the region to rally behind a leader who is not just talking about change, but actively making change happen.

Senate approves Ned Nwoko’s motion to restore Aniocha North II State Constituency

The Senate on Tuesday approved the restoration of the Aniocha North II State Constituency in Delta, in compliance with the Supreme Court judgment in suit No. SC/129/2019.

According to Vanguard, the approval followed a motion during plenary on the “Restoration of Aniocha North II State Constituency, Delta in compliance with Supreme Court Judgment,” sponsored by Sen. Ned Nwoko (APC-Delta North).

The upper chamber also resolved that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must comply with the resolution.

It further directed that the restoration of the constituency take effect in the next State House of Assembly election, after the current term of the Delta State House of Assembly.

“This is in compliance with Section 115 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),” the Senate affirmed.

Moving the motion, Nwoko explained that in 2014, the people of Idumuje-Unor, Idumuje-Ugboko, Nkwu-Nzu, Ugboba, Idumuogo, Ugbodu, Ubulubu, Anioma, and Ogodo towns in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta initiated a legal action at the Federal High Court in Asaba.

They sought the restoration of the Aniocha North II State Constituency.

Although the Federal High Court dismissed the case, the Court of Appeal in Benin ruled in favour of the people on Nov. 22, 2017, ordering the restoration of the constituency and instructing INEC to conduct elections there.

Nwoko further noted that INEC had filed for leave to appeal the Court of Appeal judgment at the Supreme Court, but the Supreme Court, on Nov. 29, 2019, dismissed the application, affirming the judgment as “final, binding, and legally non-appealable.”

In compliance with the Supreme Court ruling, INEC convened a meeting with stakeholders of the constituency on Nov. 19, 2020.

The commission subsequently submitted a report to the National Assembly for consideration, in line with Section 115 of the 1999 Constitution.

However, in spite of INEC having completed the necessary processes, no further action was taken to facilitate the restoration of the constituency.

The Senate resolved to seek the concurrence of the House of Representatives, as required by Section 115 of the Constitution.

In his remarks, Senate President Godswill Akpabio thanked Nwoko for raising the motion, emphasising that the Supreme Court decision must be implemented.

He urged Senate management to contact INEC immediately and collaborate with colleagues in the House of Representatives for concurrence.

Akpabio also expressed hope that similar cases in other states would be taken to court for resolution.
