China Says Taiwan Independence is a Threat to It’s Sovereignty, Territorial Integrity … Asks Journalists Against Report Suggesting Independence of Taiwan

0

The People’s Republic of China on Thursday said Taiwan independence is a serious threat to its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

It said the Taiwan question concerns China’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and China’s national sentiment without any ambiguity and cannot be argued or challenged.

The Chief, Political Section of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Zhu Songbo, in his remarks at the Media Salon on the One-China Principle as the Bedrock of China- Nigeria Relations in Abuja, explained that the one-China principle, which asserts that there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing all of China.

Songbo added that the application of the one-China principle is universal, unconditional, and unquestionable stressing that all countries that have diplomatic relations with China and all member states of the United Nations must unconditionally adhere to the one-China principle.

Zhu on how Nigeria is handling the Taiwan, said China appreciates the country’s commitment to the one-China principle, citing Nigeria’s actions, including the relocation of the Taiwan Trade Office out of Abuja.

He said: “Nigeria has been adhering to the one-China principle, which has been appreciated by China.

“We hope that Nigeria will continue to uphold this principle and support China’s efforts to achieve national reunification.”

Zhu however cautioned media practitioners against using language that implies Taiwan’s independence or sovereignty, urging them to adhere to the principles of objectivity, fairness, and truthfulness when reporting on China and the Taiwan question.

He said: “We hope that all of you will have a better understanding of China’s position on the Taiwan question and will continue adhering to the principles of objectivity, fairness, and truthfulness when writing reports about China,” Songbo added.

Songbo further expressed concern over attempts by some forces to promote Taiwan independence, describing such efforts as a serious threat to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

“The Taiwan independence separatist activities and external forces are a threat to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. We firmly oppose any attempts to create a ‘two Chinas’ or ‘one China, one Taiwan’ scenario.”

Songbo reaffirmed China’s commitment to peaceful reunification, while also emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability and security in the region.

“We are committed to peaceful reunification, but we will not tolerate any attempts to undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. We hope that all parties will work together to promote peace and stability in the region.”

Earlier in his presentation, the Director of Centre for China Studies, Charles Onunaiju, said the Chinese and Taiwanese are, in fact, one people, sharing a common history and cultural heritage.

He noted that Nigeria’s position on the One-China principle is sacrosanct, as evidenced by its commitment to recognizing the People’s Republic of China as the sole legitimate government representing all of China.

According to him, “The Taiwan Trade Office in Lagos operates merely as a trade facilitation entity, and not as an embassy, with its primary purpose being to promote economic and commercial ties between Taiwan and Nigeria.

He, However, said the activities of the Taipei Trade Office have been known to undermine Nigeria’s adherence to the One-China principle, which could potentially strain bilateral relations between Nigeria and China.

“Ultimately, Taiwan’s eventual return to China is an inseparable part of history, as the island has been an integral part of Chinese territory since ancient times, and reunification is seen as a necessary step towards realizing the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Also, the Head of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Abuja, Professor Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, in his presentation said no country will allow secessionist groups to undermine its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and China is no exception in its stance against Taiwan independence.

Prof. Ghali Ibrahim who is also the Director of Centre for Contemporary China-Africa Research, said the United Nations Resolution 2758 of 1971 recognizes the People’s Republic of China (PRC) as the only legal representative of China, with Taiwan considered an integral part of it, a position reinforced by several other laws and frameworks that support the One-China policy, including anti-secession laws.

“The concept of “One Country, Two Systems” was propounded by Deng Xiaoping, aimed at achieving peaceful reunification while allowing for different systems to coexist within a unified China.”

“Nigeria adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, and as such, will not meddle in China’s internal affairs, including the Taiwan question.”

“China and Nigeria share similar ideas and identity, and as a result, efforts by the Taiwan Trade Office to undermine the One-China principle are likely to fail, given the strong bilateral relations between Nigeria and China.”

“The One-China principle has been pivotal to the significant increase in trade volume between Nigeria and China, with trade exceeding over $20 billion, making China Nigeria’s third-largest trade partner.”

“Furthermore, there have been tangible outcomes in terms of infrastructural interventions from the Chinese government, including the construction of rails and roads, which have contributed to Nigeria’s economic development.”

Dr Austin Maho who is a lecturer at the International Institute of Journalism in his presentation on the role of the Nigerian media in Reporting the Taiwan Question, stated that the media plays a critical role in shaping society and public perception, and as such, journalists should exercise caution and responsibility in their reporting, particularly on sensitive issues such as the Taiwan question.

Maho who is also a Daybreak Newspapers’ publisher also said the People’s Republic of China considers Taiwan independence as a red line that should not be crossed, and journalists should be mindful of this in their reportage.

“To provide accurate and balanced coverage, journalists should thoroughly understand the issues between Nigeria and China, avoiding references to Taiwan as a “country” or calling for enhanced collaboration between Nigeria and Taiwan.”

“Media professionals should also be wary of Andy Ping Liu, representative of the Taiwan trade mission in Nigeria, who may attempt to promote Taiwan independence.”

“Vigilance is key among media professionals to ensure that their reporting does not inadvertently undermine the One-China principle or promote secessionist agendas.” He added.

ECOWAS Court Dismisses Shatta Wale’s Discrimination Claim Against Ghanaian Gaming Commission

The Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has delivered its judgment in Case No. ECW/CCJ/APP/25/24, Charles Nii Armah Mensah v. Republic of Ghana and Gaming Commission, dismissing the discrimination claim brought by the award-winning Ghanaian musician known professionally as Shatta Wale.

The Court on Friday ruled against the Applicant, citing his failure to provide sufficient evidence of differential treatment, lack of proof regarding correspondence with the gaming company in question, and failure to disclose the identity of the gaming company central to the case.

Mr. Charles Nii Armah Mensah, an award-winning musician, recording artist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist known professionally as Shatta Wale, alleged that his right to non-discrimination was violated when he was prevented from securing an endorsement deal with a gaming company in Ghana.

The Applicant claimed that his established social status and professional achievements had earned him recognition and endorsement opportunities for various products and services within and outside Ghana. However, he alleged that a potential endorsement deal was terminated because of Guideline VII of Ghana’s Advertising Guidelines, which prohibits gaming “operators from using celebrities in their advertisements to entice the general public to gamble.”

Mr. Mensah contended that this restriction based on his celebrity status constituted discrimination and violated his rights guaranteed under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and other international legal instruments.

The Respondent, the Republic of Ghana, denied the Applicant’s claims and challenged the Court’s competence to determine a case seeking to repeal or revoke national legislation. Ghana requested that the Applicant provide evidence of other celebrities engaged in similar advertisements who received different treatment. The Respondent maintained that no celebrities of the Applicant’s status were permitted to engage in such advertisements in Ghana, and examples cited by the Applicant involved celebrities engaged by other countries with different legal frameworks.

In its judgment, the Court observed that:
The Applicant failed to provide proof of any correspondence or oral evidence of interaction with the unidentified gaming company, or of any order from the Respondent to the gaming company to discontinue discussions with the Applicant.

The Applicant did not present credible evidence demonstrating different treatment of other celebrities engaged in similar advertisements that would amount to discrimination.

The Court was being asked to grant relief with implications for a critical but unidentified third party (the gaming company), which contradicts the rules of admissibility of the Court.

The Court, in its ruling, declared it has jurisdiction over the application and the application admissible but dismissed the case in its entirety as lacking merit.

The judgment was rendered by a panel comprising: Hon. Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves (Presiding Judge),
Hon. Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma (Member), Hon. Justice Dupe Atoki (Member and Judge Rapporteur)

APPOINTMENT: Ignore mischief makers, NMU staff back Council

STAFF of Nigeria Maritime University, NMU, Okerenkoko in Gbaramatu Kingdom,Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State have pooh-poohed falsehoods published by certain faceless individuals seeking to discredit the Council’s recent appointment of Principal Officers.

The staff gave backing to the excellent procedure that the University Council adopted to fill the vacant positions.

This was contained in a statement yesterday signed by Comrade Moses Oghenekome Ogege, Mr. Fine-Boy Doubra, Mrs. Sarah Kattey, Mr. Ossa, and Mr. Alen Igwe which was made available to media.

The NMU Staff said, “Their allegations are not only baseless but also a disservice to the truth and to the progress NMU has recorded under the current leadership.

“The process for the appointment of principal officers began in the  Governing Council, where the advertisement document was approved.”

“Following this, notices were placed in two national newspapers, publicly inviting applications for the positions of Registrar,Bursar, and University Librarian, and everyone saw the advertisement, even on the university’s official staff platform.

“Later on, a Selection Committee was constituted by the Council, alongside the approval for the engagement of three independent consultants, one each assigned to the three positions.

“The consultants worked closely with the committee, and after a rigorous and transparent interview process, three top-performing candidates were recommended to the Council. As expected, the highest-scoring candidates were duly appointed.

“This process was a model of fairness and due process. It adhered strictly to principles of merit and integrity. One, therefore, wonders what the anonymous authors of these claims consider lacking in transparency.

“The Nigeria Maritime University community is fully pleased with the decisions of the Governing Council.

“The entire staff stand in firm support of the Council’s direction, particularly its efforts to strengthen the university through competent leadership and institutional reforms. A visitation to the university campus will show how much the outcome from the Council is being celebrated.

“In recognition of these achievements, the NMU staff have unanimously passed a vote of confidence on all members of the Governing Council, with special commendation to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Alhaji Abdulahi Bardi, whose visionary leadership has been central to the university’s upward trajectory.”

The NMU Staff condemned attempt to mislead the public and sow discord within the academic environment.

They noted that, “NMU is a place of excellence, not a space for baseless propaganda or anonymous blackmail. The progress recorded here is not speculative, it is visible, measurable, and verifiable.

“The Nigeria Maritime University remains committed to its mission of building a world-class maritime institution that serves the needs of the nation and the global maritime industry.

“We urge the media, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard the unfounded publication and continue to support the laudable achievements being recorded under the present Council.” They added.

Senator Ned Nwoko Gets Spiritual Affirmation from Rev. White on Reelection

By Kenneth Orusi

The National Coordinator, Anioma Freedom Seekers (AFS), Rev. Joseph Ugochukwu White, said in the turbulent terrain of Nigerian politics, few political figures command the dual weight of spiritual conviction and public affirmation like Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko.

As the 2027 general elections approach, a powerful narrative is emerging: that his return to the Red Chambers is not just a political ambition, but a divine orchestration shaped by destiny and reinforced by popular will.

Rev. Ogochukwu White who doubles as the President, Potter’s Place Group Int’l, said Senator Nwoko’s re-emergence in the senatorial landscape is not a happenstance of political alignment or party strategy.

He made the declaration in a post on social media, insisting that Senator Nwoko’s path is shaped by what many observers and supporters now call a “Divine Mandate”, a cosmic affirmation of purpose rooted in public service and driven by a higher calling.

The slogan reverberating through the Delta North region, “No Controversy: Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko’s Continuity to the Red Chambers in 2027 Is Ordained by Divinity and Enforced by Humanity”, is more than rhetoric; it is the rallying cry of a people who have witnessed transformation under his stewardship.

He said throughout Senator Nwoko’s political career, he embodied a brand of leadership grounded in principle, courage, and conviction, pointing out that he is not swayed by fleeting popularity or political convenience.

“Instead, his decisions have consistently aligned with the long-term interests of his constituents, from education and healthcare to legislative activism and social empowerment.

“While the divine may initiate destiny, it is the people who confirm it. Across Anioma and Delta North, testimonies abound of Senator Nwoko’s tangible impact.

“Projects executed, voices amplified, and justice pursued, all point to a legacy of service that transcends electoral cycles.

“This legacy has built a groundswell of support, positioning him not just as a candidate but as a statesman-in-waiting.

“In a polity often plagued by cynicism and betrayal, Senator Nwoko’s journey stands out as a convergence of divine calling and democratic legitimacy. He does not merely seek office, he answers a call.

“And that call, according to both spiritual insight and public sentiment, is to return to the Red Chambers in 2027, where his voice will again champion the voiceless”.

In the words of Rev. Joseph Ugochukwu White: “When destiny and divine providence intersect, greatness is inevitable. A leader with a divine mandate is a force to be reckoned with, for they are driven by a purpose that transcends human comprehension.”

“Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko’s 2027 ambition is not just political, it is prophetic.

“And as history has shown, when purpose aligns with destiny, and the people align with both, change becomes unstoppable”, Rev. Ugochukwu, said.

Sen. Ned Nwoko commended by APC Chieftain, Jude Baadi for political focus

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

Chief Jude Baadi, a member of Delta Unity Group (DUG) and a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has commended Senator Ned Nwoko for fulfilling his promise of pushing for the actualisation of Aniocha North Constituency 2, describing the achievement as a landmark victory for the people of the area.

Speaking during a live interview on Nol 24 TV, Chief Baadi noted that despite opposition from certain political figures, Senator Nwoko remained focused on actualizing the Supreme Court judgment that recognized nine communities as eligible for a second state constituency in Aniocha North.

“Some politicians stood against the implementation of the judgment after it was delivered by the Supreme Court,” Baadi said.

“But Senator Ned Nwoko made it clear from the start that making Aniocha North Constituency 2 a reality would be his first priority on assumption of office at the National Assembly— and he delivered.”

According to Baadi, Nwoko’s efforts have now paved the way for the constituency to have two seats in the Delta State House of Assembly by 2027, a move he believes will enhance representation and development for the affected communities.

“This is not just a political win — it’s a victory for justice and fairness,” Baadi added. “Why can’t we give him credit for that? Ned Nwoko is a wonderful senator, and we owe him our support.”

Baadi also praised the senator’s commitment to service and his principled approach to politics. “He may not do things your way, but he gets them done. In a decent political environment, people like Senator Nwoko should be celebrated, not vilified,” he said. “His focus is on improving lives of people. He’s not distracted by dirty politics.”

Reaffirming his loyalty to the senator’s vision for Delta North, Baadi emphasized that Nwoko’s selflessness and integrity stand out in today’s political climate. “Everyone who knows him knows he means well for the people of Delta North. We should give him all the support he needs to succeed.”

Senator Ned Nwoko remains a figure that citizens, critics alike cannot ignore

By Kenneth Orusi

In the complex political landscape of Delta North, one name continues to echo with unmistakable resonance: Senator Ned Munir Nwoko.

Whether celebrated or scrutinized, Nwoko’s influence and public recognition far outstrip that of his contemporaries, making him arguably the most famous politician in the region.

But fame is said to be a double-edged sword, and Nwoko’s prominence is built on a blend of achievement and savvy public visibility.

At the heart of Nwoko’s public appeal is his undeniable record of philanthropy.

From his wide-scale scholarship programmes to infrastructural investments across communities, Nwoko has positioned himself as a man of the people.

His Malaria Eradication Project stands out as a bold health initiative with international partnerships, projecting him beyond the confines of Delta North into global conversations about public health in Africa.

Such undertakings not only solidify his image as a visionary but also endear him to constituents who feel directly impacted by his large heartedness.

Equally central to his fame is his flair for the dramatic. Nwoko understands the power of optics in politics.

Senator Nwoko’s popularity runs deep, from bustling market stalls to the dignified chambers of royal courts, his grassroots appeal is both authentic and enduring.

What truly sets Senator Ned Nwoko apart in the political landscape of Delta North is not just his name, but the depth of his connection to the Anioma people and his unwavering commitment to their progress.

Unlike many before him whose time in office was clouded by personal ambition, Senator Nwoko has built his political career on a foundation of selfless service.

His mission is clear and consistent: to serve, not to gain. This isn’t just about rhetoric, it’s a guiding principle.

As he once said, “I am not here to make wealth or seek personal gain, but to ensure that my people have access to basic amenities and opportunities for a better life.” These aren’t just words to impress; they are reflected in his actions.

In just one year and eleven months in office, Senator Nwoko has demonstrated a work ethic rarely seen in Nigerian politics.

He has shown that leadership is not about issuing press statements or attending ceremonies, it’s about rolling up your sleeves and getting things done.

His proactive, people-focused style of representation has earned him admiration not just among the elite but also at the grassroots level. People see the difference. They feel it.

It is this rare blend of sincerity, visibility, and results that has made Senator Nwoko not only the most effective senator from Delta North in recent memory, but also the most famous.

He is a household name not because of flashy politics, but because of tangible impact.

In every community outreach, and every legislative engagement, he brings with him the hopes and voices of his people.

That kind of representation isn’t bought, it’s earned. And Senator Nwoko has earned it, one project, one policy, and one promise fulfilled at a time.

While the zone has produced capable leaders, few have matched his consistency in commanding attention and cultivating a loyal political base.

His ability to reinvent his image, whether as a prince, philanthropist, or legislator, makes him a political brand rather than just an office holder.

Ultimately, Senator Nwoko’s fame is a result of strategic positioning, public engagement, and relentless drive to place the people first.

Whether admired for his developmental strides or critiqued for his polarizing persona, he remains a figure that citizens and critics alike cannot ignore.

In a region where political relevance often fades with the electoral cycle, Nwoko’s enduring presence is a testament to the power of calculated visibility, and why, for now, he remains the most famous politician in Delta North.

IS THIS TRULY CORRECT ABOUT NIGERIA?

A federating unit of the Federation is in a State of Emergency;

Democratically elected branches of government suspended and lawfully constituted boards dissolved;

A military government in a State in a constitutional democracy;

Insecurities have increased multidimensionally;

Banditry is in a state of expansion and transition;

Terrorism has become more accurate and on targets without tracking;

Kidnapping is a daily occurrence;

Bloodbaths increase is evidenced in the Benue and on the Plateau;

Borrowing is now unexplainable and untamable;

Herdsmen rampaging from the Middlebelt to the South West, travelling fast to the South South and the Eastern Region;

Devaluation, a #100 of Nigerian currency cannot buy you anything in the UK, US, Europe or anywhere outside Nigeria while a £100 or $100 or€100 or ¥100 will buy you luxury goods in Nigeria when converted into Nigerian currency; Foreign medical tourism, remember that even PBAT enjoys it bi fortnightly up to last week;

Defections to ruling Party is the balm, recipe or therapy for the ailing social, economic, political malaise ravaging the nation for the “wise”.

Finally, high inflation in Nigeria is unmeasurably unequalled in comparison to past experiences.

As for the etc, let’s wait and see as watch dogs. Sidonlook people, it shall come to pass. This one sef go pass. The power of prayer people praying.

Defunct CPC’s Forum of State Chairmen: We owe a duty to Support Tinubu, Leadership of APC

The Forum of State Chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressives’ Change (CPC) has declared their support for President Bola Tinubu, stating that the breakaway members from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have merely exercised their democratic rights.

The group in a statement signed by the National Secretary, Sulaiman Oyaremi, and representatives of each of the zones, Lekan Obolo, Mike Agbe, Enyinnaya Ibiam Nnachi, Isah Ramatu Saidu, Ahmad Dawayo and Musa Abubakar Damaliki said: “We believe that we owe ourselves a duty to support the current leader of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and contribute to the transformation of APC into an inclusive institution where all stakeholders would have a sense of belonging and ownership.”

The statement read: “We, members of the Forum of State Chairmen of the defunct Congress for Progressives’ Change (CPC), have observed with discomfort the way the CPC bloc in the ruling All Progressives’ Congress (APC) has become a subject of political controversy in recent times.

“Unfortunately, with several camps speaking for the defunct CPC, the situation has exposed a lack of coherent leadership within the bloc. We are further concerned that this development signposts a lack of inclusiveness in the leadership of APC and the government it birthed.

“It is a self-evident reality that members of the defunct CPC, especially former State Chairmen of the legacy party, have not been treated fairly either through government appointments or party apparatus both at the national and state levels, their contributions to the electoral successes of the party notwithstanding.

“Against the conflicting statements concerning the position of the CPC bloc within the APC, we believe that those who chose to either leave or remain in APC have merely exercised their democratic rights

“On our part, as members of the Forum for State Chairmen of the defunct CPC, while we do not begrudge those who have decided to quit APC, we wish to state without any ambiguity that, except for a few of us, we are unanimous in our decision to remain in the party with our principal, former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We also want to use this medium to call the attention of the President to the multifarious challenges that Nigerians face. The high level of insecurity and economic hardship are becoming existential threats to many citizens.

“It is, therefore, important that the President, APC governments at all levels and the leadership of the party give these challenges the desired attention. These issues of governance, rather than the 2027 elections, should constitute our priority as we move closer to the second anniversary of the current government.”

Mohamed Fall Asks Journalists to Be Cautious in Use of AI

0

The United Nations (UN) Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall has advised the media to approach the use of artificial intelligence (AI) with caution, stating that as it can empower fact-based reporting, so also can it accelerates disinformation, deepen surveillance, and silence truth.

Fall, in a statement issued on Friday to commemorate the World Press Freedom Day, said we celebrate the brave men and women who work in the media in Nigeria as journalists, reporters, producers, cameramen and women, and all other media workers.

He said: “You are a very important sector of a democratic society, helping citizens to exercise their right to freedom of expression and freedom of information.

“In a world more connected and more conflicted than ever, press freedom remains a pillar of justice, democracy, and human rights. This year, we mark World Press Freedom Day under the theme “Reporting in the Brave New World – The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media.”

He said: “AI is reshaping journalism. It can empower fact-based reporting or accelerate disinformation, deepen surveillance, and silence truth.

“AI must not become a tool that erodes trust or endangers journalists who face disproportionate risks online and offline.

“Globally, the UN Secretary-General has called for AI to be shaped by human rights and facts. His Global Principles for Information Integrity and the Global Digital Compact promote transparency and accountability in this digital age.

“Here in Nigeria, the United Nations works with media partners, civil society, and government to support public access to information and protection of fundamental freedoms. We promote Media and Information Literacy, safe digital ecosystems, ethical AI use, as well as free, independent and pluralistic media.

“AI is already changing the way you report the news for the better. However, it also has the potential to fuel hate speech and disinformation with deepfakes and misrepresentation.

“We depend on you the journalists as our line of defence against false news by reliance on ethical journalism, reporting truth and objectivity.

“As we celebrate the media in Nigeria, I also call upon you to see yourselves as a light in this country, always reporting for public good. You should not only spotlight the problems and challenges Nigeria faces but also highlight the progress and opportunities that abound in this country.
You should not only convey disasters and bad news. Be conveyors of hope. Uphold solution journalism.

“I call upon all stakeholders to support the media as they navigate this new world of innovation, the digital media and AI.

“We all should ensure that journalism thrives because when journalists are silenced, societies are weakened. But when they thrive, so does democracy.

“I wish all Nigerian journalists and media workers a good World Press Freedom Day.”

2027: Senator Ned Nwoko’s leadership is irreplaceable in Delta North

BY AUSTIN OYIBODE

In a time when effective representation has never been more important, the people of Delta North face a critical choice that will define their future for years to come. As the political landscape shifts to 2027, the call for continuity, competence, and experience grows louder. One voice capturing that sentiment is the resounding declaration: “We can’t afford to go back.”

This statement is more than just a slogan—it is a reflection of the growing consensus among Delta North constituents who believe that Senator Ned Nwoko’s leadership is not only necessary but irreplaceable. Known for his proactive approach to governance, strategic thinking, and commitment to development, Senator Nwoko has proven himself to be a dependable and results-driven representative.

His leadership, often described as topnotch, has brought visibility and federal attention to issues that matter most to the people of Delta North. From infrastructure development to healthcare, Senator Nwoko has used his influence to attract meaningful projects and advocate for policies that benefit his constituency.

It is no surprise, then, that many are urging for his continued representation in the Senate. “We need an experienced hand to represent Delta North in the Senate,” has become a rallying cry—one that underscores a desire for maturity in leadership and depth in understanding the challenges facing the region.

Delta North is not a place that can afford political experimentation at this point in its development. With the moves so far made by Senator Ned Nwoko within the last two years, Delta North no longer needs a senator who will begin learning the ropes of law making. In this context, Senator Ned Nwoko stands out as the only truly experienced candidate capable of delivering real impact.

Senator Nwoko’s experience in both national and international political circles gives him a unique edge above any competitor from any party. His ability to attract global attention to local issues, such as his fight against malaria in Africa, showcases his reach and relevance beyond the borders of Delta North. That kind of influence cannot be manufactured overnight—it is built through years of public service, knowledge, and relationships.

His role in facilitating the Paris Club refund for the 36 Nigerian states and 774 local government councils in Nigeria is another testament to his strategic capabilities. That initiative helped inject much-needed funds into state economies and proved that with the right leadership, even the most complex financial disputes can be resolved for the common good. For Delta North, having such a skilled negotiator and advocate in the Senate is a strategic advantage.

To replace Senator Nwoko now would be to disrupt the momentum already being built. As one community leader aptly puts it, “Any other person will take us back.” And indeed, the risk of regression is very real.

A new or inexperienced senator, no matter how well-meaning, would face a steep learning the curves. This could stall important projects, delay access to critical funding, and ultimately cost the region years of progress.

Leadership is not just about popularity or charisma; it is about understanding policy, navigating bureaucratic bottlenecks, and leveraging influence for the benefit of the people. Senator Ned Nwoko embodies these qualities, and his track record reflects his commitment to results rather than rhetorics.

Moreover, his leadership style is one that blends vision with action. He is not just a politician; he is a planner, a thinker, and a doer. He understands that representation is not about making empty promises but about being a strong voice in the Senate—one that speaks confidently, consistently, and competently for the people of Delta North.

As the next election cycle approaches, the message from the grassroots to the political elite is clear: Delta North needs continuity, not confusion. It needs results, not rehearsals. It needs Ned Nwoko—not a return to the days of political inexperience.

The people deserve a senator who not only knows the job but excels at it. That’s why the call to retain Senator Nwoko in the Senate continues to gain momentum. His leadership has laid a foundation that must be built upon, not dismantled.

The choice before Delta North is not just about candidates—it is about the future. And the future cannot be built on inexperience or sentiment. It must be anchored on proven leadership. That is why the statement stands strong and true: We can’t afford to go back. With Senator Ned Nwoko, Delta North can continue to move forward. And forward we go.

The Delta State House of Assembly has scheduled a public hearing on the proposed amendment to the Delta State Community Security Corps Agency Law for Friday, May 9, 2025.

The hearing, which will take place at 10:00 a.m. at the Press Centre of the Assembly Complex on Okpanam Road, Asaba, is being organized by the Joint Committees on Special Committee on Bills and the Committee on Peace and Security.

In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Joint Committee and Majority Leader of the House, Hon. (Dr.) Emeka Nwaobi, the Assembly called for active participation and contributions from key stakeholders through oral and written submissions to shape the proposed legislation.

Among those expected to submit memoranda are the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ministry of Justice, and the state chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON).

The statement emphasized that all memoranda should be submitted in 30 copies, enclosed in sealed envelopes addressed to the Chairman, Joint Committee on Special Committee on Bills and Committee on Peace and Security, and delivered to the Clerk of the Committee no later than Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Hon. Nwaobi appealed to all invited institutions and stakeholders to take the public hearing seriously, stressing that their contributions are vital to the legislative process and to strengthening community security architecture in the state.

Oborevwori sets 2027 completion deadline for Ayakoromo bridge …Inspects Trans-Warri Bridges, Road, To Build Two Jetties

In a decisive move to fast-track infrastructural development and fulfill a promise to riverine communities, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced early 2027 as the definitive completion date for the Ayakoromo Bridge project.

The Governor noted that the critical project had suffered years of uncertainty and delays, but stressed that he was committed to ensuring its completion as scheduled.

He made this declaration during an inspection visit to the site of the Ayakoromo Bridge across the Forcados River, along with the 3km approach road at Egbo-Ide in Ughelli-South and Burutu local government areas.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of the 612-metre long bridge comprising 18 spans with 24 metres between each span to the communities of Egbo-Ide and Ayakoromo.

He added that although the contract was awarded before his administration, he ensured the contractor was remobilized to the site.

“This project is very dear to me and the people. The contractor has set 2027 as the completion date, but we would be pleased if it is finished early 2027,” he said.

“I am confident the contractor will deliver as promised, but I have also directed them to accelerate the pace of work. This bridge is crucial for connecting surrounding villages.

“As you can see, the people are excited even though they were not informed of my visit. This shows how important the bridge is to the two communities and others in the area.”

Earlier, the Governor visited the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project in Warri South Local Government Area.

He remarked that the project would enhance connectivity and create economic opportunities for both urban and rural dwellers.

“This project is vital to our people because it connects us with those in rural areas and expands opportunities.

“You saw how happy the people were as we arrived; elders and other villagers came out joyfully. This project is particularly important to the Itsekiri nation, which is why I am determined to see it through to completion.

“I was here in September 2024, and I am back again for inspection. I believe that by early next year, this project will be inaugurated, as it has already been delayed for nearly 19 years.

“We will no longer tolerate delays beyond project timelines. Under our MORE Agenda, we have committed to doing more for Deltans, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.

Governor Oborevwori announced the construction of two jetties in the area and explained that, due to the rainy season, the construction company is allowing the newly sand-filled areas to settle for road stability.

He, however, urged the firm to accelerate work to ensure the project is completed within his first term in office.

AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN IS GUIDED BY PATRIOTIC COMMITMENT – NORTH CENTRAL WOMEN · CALL MGBEKE COMEDIAN

North Central Women on Friday criticized Prof Mgbeke, dismissing her recent remarks about the representative of Kogi Central, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, as mad imaginings, deception and fantasy.

They also described the remarks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Organizing Secretary, Mr. Blessing Agbomhere, as banal and irrelevant.

‘’It is amazing that male politicians in Nigeria are resorting to dishonest tactics to fight women’’

The women in a statement in Abuja criticized the leadership of the Senate for placing Nigeria in a dilemma.

‘’The six-month suspension is raised in almost all the news media in the world’’

They urged the senate leadership to save Nigeria from ignominy.

Specifically, the women praised Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for not allowing anyone to make her an emotional client in the country.

They also applauded her for playing a major role in the national history of Nigeria.

The statement issued by the Chairperson of North Central Women Front (NCWF), Mrs. Mary Adamu emphasized Akpoti-Uduaghan’s unflagging commitment to improvement of Kogi Central Senatorial District.

The women scolded the spokesperson of Executive Watch Dog, Mr. Fidelis Ella for advertising his ignorance.

The women of repute and experience branded Dr Sandra Duru (Mgbeke), Ella and Agbomhere parrots and bootlickers of anti-democratic forces.

‘’Unstable people can destroy anybody for a political appointment, contract and petty cash”

The women further dismissed allegations of malicious agenda, dirty game of propaganda and destruction.

They called the plot to dismantle Yoruba Government, destabilize the national structure and halt the country from moving forward as a foolish talk.

‘’Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is guided by patriotic commitment’’

The women urged sympathizers of the Senate President and a former ministerial nominee not to lead Nigeria to confusion.

The statement denounced intolerance, lies, perversion of truth and crazy ideas.

Afenifere Warns Against Profiling Tinubu Administration, Yoruba Government … Says Such Act is Tantamount to Playing Russian Roulette with National Destiny

Afenifere, a Pan-Yoruba Socio-Political Organisation has warned those labelling the present administration of President Bola Tinubu as Yoruba government to stop such profiling, stating that such act is tantamount to playing Russian roulette with our national destiny.

Afenifere in a statement signed on Friday by its National Organising Secretary Abagun Kole Omololu, said: “We have taken due note of the recent expose by Dr. Sandra Duru, detailing her conversation with the suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, particularly her shocking admission of a clandestine plot to sabotage the administration of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which the conspirators have stereotyped as a “Yoruba government,” and thereby stir the embers of division to deny him a second term. This is no light accusation. It is a revelation that demands reflection from patriots and repudiation from all who still hold Nigeria dear.”

The group added that: “Let it be said, plainly and without ambiguity, that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government is not a Yoruba government. It is a Nigerian government. He did not ascend to the presidency by tribal inheritance but by democratic choice — the result of votes cast in faith by Nigerians of every tongue, creed, and religion.

“To label this administration as “Yoruba” and weaponize that label as grounds for sabotage is not only dishonest, but a vile act of tribal opportunism and sedition. We reject it utterly.

“We remind the nation: When President Muhammadu Buhari held office for eight years, no one branded his leadership as a “Fulani government.” No tribal coalition was formed to deny him a second term on the grounds of ethnicity. He was allowed to serve out his mandate in full — and rightly so. The same principle of equity and continuity must apply now. Let no one demand justice only when it suits them, but deny it when it is owed to others.”

The group adduced that: “President Tinubu shall serve his full term of eight years, by the will of the good people of this country and under the watch of the Constitution. To suggest otherwise is to play Russian roulette with our national destiny.”

Afenifere commended Dr. Duru for her expose, stating that: “Afenifere salutes Dr. Sandra Duru for her uncommon courage — for speaking truth not only to power, but to conspiracy. Her voice is a reminder that integrity still walks among us, and that silence, in the face of wickedness, is not an option for those who love this country.

“Furthermore, we condemn in the strongest terms the campaign of calumny and false allegations against the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio — a man whose only crime, it appears, is that he dares to cooperate and collaborate with the President in the spirit of statesmanship and progress.

“We reject the weaponization of false allegations as political tools — especially when such weapons are aimed at innocent men, families and private lives. Politics has its place, but it must never trespass the boundaries of human decency. To smear a man’s name, fabricate charges, and unleash innuendo on his children, his home, and his honour — that is not politics. That is malice in its rawest form.”

The group further said: “We strongly decry the internationalization of fabricated domestic issues by those who authored the falsehood in the first place. This is akin to setting fire to your own seat in a cinema and running out crying “Fire! Fire!” — not out of alarm, but out of selfish ambition. It is selfishness that seeks to burn down the image of the nation to satisfy the ego of one person who believes that except she has her way, the country should not have peace.”

Afenifere warned that: “Nigeria is not a personal or tribal empire. Our nation will not bow to tribal blackmail. It will not bend to invented narratives. And it will not break under the weight of conspiracy. Let all patriots rally to the defence of truth, justice, and constitutional order. Let us remember that nations fall not only when tanks roll through streets — but also when lies, repeated often enough, begin to sound like truth.”

The group said: “We have come too far to be dragged backward by petty ambition disguised as activism. Let us reject the agents of sabotage — not because they threaten one man, but because they threaten all of us.”

Anyaoku at 92: Nigeria a “country,” not a “nation,” needs restructuring

By Sunny A. David, Awka

At 92, elder statesman and former Commonwealth Secretary-General Chief Emeka Anyaoku expressed his deep regret that Nigeria remains a “country” and not a “nation,” urging immediate constitutional restructuring.

Speaking at the 14th Chief Emeka Anyaoku Lecture Series on Good Governance in Enugu, Anyaoku lamented the current 1999 Constitution’s failure to address Nigeria’s diverse population, hindering its development.

He contrasted Nigeria’s current centralized governance with the more regionally-focused system of the early years of independence, arguing that the latter fostered faster development.

Anyaoku believes a genuine federal constitution, enabling greater regional autonomy, is crucial for good governance and National unity.

This sentiment was echoed by keynote speaker Professor Ibrahim Gambari, former Foreign Affairs Minister, who stressed the importance of constitutionalism and the rule of law for National progress.

Governor Peter Mbah, the event’s host, highlighted the need for people-centered leadership, emphasizing that good intentions alone are insufficient.

Northeast Governors Meet in Damaturu; with Security, Agriculture Topping their Discussions

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum led a delegation of Northeast governors to Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, for the 11th governors’ forum meeting focusing on regional security, boosting agricultural development, and addressing other emerging challenges.

The high-level meeting, held at the Government House, Damaturu, brought together governors from the six Northeastern states, including Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe, to discuss collaborative strategies to tackling the resurgence of Boko Haram hostilities, and revitalising agricultural activities amid other ongoing challenges.

In his opening remarks, chairman of the forum and Governor of Borno State, emphasised the need for a unified approach to combating terrorism, banditry, and other security threats destabilising the region.

He said: “Your Excellencies, our Forum’s determined efforts in tackling collectively all issues affecting our region have further made us a force to be reckoned with in the nation. I urged all well-meaning citizens of our region to support and work with us in the interest of the development of our people.

“As Governors, we have a sacred responsibility to our people; we must provide them with the necessities of life, create opportunities for them to thrive, and ensure that they live in a peaceful and secure environment. But we cannot do all these alone.

“We need each other’s support, cooperation and understanding. We must recognise that our successes are tied to the success of our region. We must acknowledge that our collective progress depends on our ability to work together to share our resources and leverage our strengths.

“Your Excellencies, the poverty level in our region is alarming, and it is imperative that we take bold steps to address this challenge. We must recognise that poverty is not just an economic issue but also a social and humanitarian crisis,” Zulum said.

He added that: “To tackle these challenges, we must adopt short—and medium-term measures and focus on rebuilding and revitalising our agricultural sector. This includes providing support to farmers, investing in irrigation systems, and promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices.”

He suggested that governors in the northeast should focus on agriculture to provide livelihood and lift people out of poverty. “We must also focus on creating an enabling environment for establishing small and medium-scale industries in our region. This includes investing in infrastructure, providing incentives for private sector investment and promoting entrepreneurship and innovation. But today, we come together not to lament our problems as identified, but rather, to proffer durable solutions,” he added.

Also speaking, the host governor, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, re-echoed the northeast’s commitment to working together to address the challenges facing the region.

Buni lauded the North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) for fostering strong relationships and advancing regional cooperation among member states.
He also commended the forum for providing support for the development of a strong and sustainable nation.

Buni said the meeting is an opportunity for review of outcomes of their previous discussions, assess progress made in addressing critical issues, and examine the challenges they face in achieving our shared goals.

“This meeting is especially significant as we witness a resurgence of activities in certain parts of the region.

“These developments should be critically examined to foster effective collaboration between state and federal governments.

Anambra trader demands n22m from NAFDAC after shop looting

0

By Sunny A. David, Awka

An Anambra State trader, Mrs. Eberechukwu Okoye, is demanding N22 million in compensation from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for the alleged looting of her shop during a recent enforcement operation.

Her lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, issued a pre-action notice stating that NAFDAC officials and security personnel vandalized Mrs. Okoye’s shop at Ogbo-Ogwu Bridgehead Market in Onitsha, stealing clothing, shoes, and other items unrelated to drugs.

The incident occurred during a two-month NAFDAC operation targeting unregistered and counterfeit drugs.

Mrs. Okoye claims her shop, which sells non-drug items, was looted without warning or justification, and that accompanying security personnel were allowed to act with impunity.

Video evidence allegedly supports her claim that no drugs were found in her shop.

Barrister Ejiofor described the incident as “mindboggling criminality,” highlighting its devastating impact on Mrs. Okoye’s livelihood during Nigeria’s economic downturn.

He questioned the legality of the actions, stating there’s no legal basis for security operatives to break into and loot citizens’ shops.

Unless NAFDAC meets the compensation demand within one month, Ejiofor has threatened legal action at the Federal High Court in Awka. NAFDAC has yet to respond to the allegations.

The United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) in Nigeria have convened a strategic partnership meeting to strengthen collaboration and improve efficiency and coordination in delivering on shared priorities in support of Nigeria.

Convened by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria and to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Ambassador Gautier Mignot, and the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall, the meeting was attended by Ambassadors of the EU Member States in Nigeria and Heads of UN Agencies in the country.

“In a fast-evolving world, where multilateralism is challenged, the EU-UN partnership is more relevant than ever. For Nigeria and many other countries in the world, this partnership is a strong and reliable source of financial and technical support, respectful of national sovereignty and oriented towards the achievement of the sustainable development goals.” Ambassador Mignot said.

He assured that: “Together with its Member States, as “Team Europe”, and in particular through the Global Gateway strategy, the EU Delegation in Nigeria will continue to work hand in hand with UN agencies to help create socio-economic opportunities, especially for the most vulnerable.”

The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Fall, noted that advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) required robust partnerships and strong institutions.

“In this context, the strategic UN-EU partnership—both globally and in-country—has become even more vital for delivering on our shared priorities. As both institutions undergo transformations—the EU through its Global Gateway Strategy and Team Europe initiative, and the UN Development System through enhanced efficiency, impact, and coherence—this meeting provides a timely opportunity to deepen our collaboration.” He said.

Fall observed, “In this challenging funding and political environment, we believe there is an opportunity—a necessary wake-up call for multilateralism and international solidarity.”

The Resident Coordinator, therefore, assured that the “UN is committed to working alongside the Nigerian government and the EU to manage this transition and deliver on the promise of the UN reform agenda.”

Defection To APC: Oborevwori, Okowa, Others Created Unprecedented Political Tsunami – Tinubu …Our Defection To APC Is A Movement – Oborevwori

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Monday, described the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire structure of Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC as a political tsunami of unimaginable proportions.

President Tinubu stated this while receiving Governor Oborevwori, immediate past Governor of the state, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and the entire membership of the PDP to the APC at the Cenotaph, Asaba.

Represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, the President lauded Governor Oborevwori and Senator Okowa for the cordial relationship between them and for leading members of the PDP to the APC.

He said: “What can be greater than the promise of this day? This is a political tsunami of unimaginable proportion that has never happened in the history of the South-South region and barely in the history of this country.

“A political tsunami of this proportion has never happened where all the members of the upper chamber of the National Assembly are in the APC.

“The Speaker and all the members of the House of Assembly. So many members of the House of Representatives, the Governor and his entire cabinet and 500 councillors across the 25 local government areas of this great state. What testimony do you have greater than this?

“The true measure of a political party lies not merely in the industry, the very name of its members, but in the conviction. It is in fact among those who once stood across from them.

“This vindication is even more fundamental. When those who once saw us as outsiders and opponents, crossed the lines of difference to become part of the enduring family we have built.

“This historic day, therefore, is both a celebration of the enduring promise of the APC and a tribute to the vision, courage, and foresight of the great giants we have come to welcome into the hall of fame of our political party, along with their devoted followers who are joining us today.

“I want to pay special tribute to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa for the wonderful relationship that exists between him and his successor.

“Senator Okowa, you are indeed a great leader and Governor Oborevwori, for embracing him, for treating him with respect and decorum, you are even a greater leader.” he said.

“We are here with our unshaken belief in the power of collaboration, the understanding that we are stronger together than we can ever be, apart.

“What sets the APC apart is not an illusion of uniformity; it is our accepting that differences are inevitable and that greatness lies in managing them.

“Our tables have always been tables of dialogue, places where every member, no matter how big or small, is welcome to air their grievances.

“Your Excellencies Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and the other great men and women, we welcome you to the APC today.

“I bring them the warm assurance of His Excellency President Bola, Ahmed Tinubu, and all members of the APC.

“Now that you have come, we are all co-owners because, according to the constitution of the party, the Governor of the party is the leader of the party in the state, this is now as much as your party as it is ours.

“You have brought to us a wealth of experience, a breath of wisdom and a measure of strength for which we shall always remain grateful.

“This is a declaration that the strength of our great nation is alive, a spirit that brings your personal ambition, your party alliance and sees the larger set of history.

“Nigeria is greater than all of us and what we do here today is a step towards strengthening our promise. We welcome you, Your Excellency, not as defectors but as brothers and sisters who have found your rightful place amongst us.

“We welcome you not as guests but as family; we welcome you as fellow architects of a better Nigeria and may this day be remembered not just by what it signifies today but for the enduring fraternity and vision of source for tomorrow.”

Responding, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori described the defection as a historic movement in the best interest of the state.

He pledged to unify the party to ensure total victory for it in the coming elections.

Oborevwori said; “what you have seen here today is a movement: it’s not a defection; it’s a movement. We have done consultations with our National Assembly members, with leadership, with stakeholders at the state level, at the senatorial level, at the local government level, at the ward level and we all decided that we must all join.

“This is Delta State; we cannot carry last. When we stand for something, we remain committed to it; we have been in opposition for almost 10 years.

“Do we need that? Mr. President has supported us, he has shown us love. We cannot face him in 2027 to work against him. That love that he has shown to us in Delta State, we need to reciprocate it.

“We cannot do it in our own party. We have to be inside to do it, and to do it well”, saying; “when you consult widely you see everybody will come with you and you can see that the love is organic: you can see my relationship with governors; you see all the governors here.

“You see the large number of governors: yesterday 9 came and slept over. Today, see all of them here. I want to bless all of you; I want to thank all of you.

“This is a movement: this is not a defection; we have agreed we will move together and when we move together, what is at the national we will be able to grab it.

“Our members in the National Assembly they are the next; they have agreed they will all defect on the floor of the house, and we have justification to move.

“All of us want to be in the Renew Hope Agenda which is in line with my MORE Agenda. ”

He stressed, “For us in Delta State, it’s a statement and I believe other governors will join because it’s a movement and when you have a movement, you don’t fail.

“There are some things people say in newspapers, that there is confusion, there is a faction in Delta APC. As I have come, there will be no faction again. Let me tell you, the Governor takes charge, and we are taking charge.

“I don’t believe in any faction, whether Omo-Agege or Keyamo faction, everybody must queue and we will unite the party to move this state forward for the benefit of our people and to bring development, peace and unity to our state and Nigeria.”

National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, applauded the cordial relationship between the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

Ganduje said the National Working Committee, NWC of the party was highly impressed because of the cordial relationship existing between the predecessor and successor which, according to him, was very rare in the country.

“So, we have to thank Dr. Okowa for that good relationship. Ladies and gentlemen, my job is very important which is accepting, welcoming and also, embracing the Governor and the people of Delta State into our great party, the APC.

“Mr. Governor, what l would like to tell you while accepting you into our party, is that our core value in APC is progressive leadership and coincidently, from what we have seen on the ground in respect of your programmes and your projects, you are a progressive Governor.

“So, we are welcoming you for coming home. We believe in progressive ideas, we believe in proximity, interacting with different levels of our party; we believe in openness, we believe in internal democracy, we believe in self -accountability and we thank you for coming in,” he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma said the ceremony was quite historic and special in the life of the APC as a political party.

Senator Uzodinma, who disclosed that members of the APC were happy with the new political development in Delta State, said that the All Progressives Congress meant well for the country.

“We are here to identify with you. We, therefore, urge all Deltans to continue to support their Governor as he consolidates on the achievements his administration has recorded so far,” he added.

On his part, the immediate past Governor of the State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa explained that the decision to change political direction was made for the common good and in the best interest of the state.

“It was not about personal ambitions but the need to connect to Abuja, where significant goodwill and resources exist, especially since the state is a major contributor.

Reflecting on his experience as a former governor in opposition, Okowa emphasized that while Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was performing well, aligning with Abuja would strengthen his efforts.

He called for strong support for both the President and the Governor, believing that the unity would allow them to dominate the political landscape of Delta State.

The ceremony was attended by 16 Governors of the APC and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Benjamin Kalu, among others.

“The movement of the Governor, former Governor, and the broader political structure into the APC is not only significant, it is profoundly symbolic,” he said. “Together, we will build a stronger New Delta, a prouder Anioma, and a better Nigeria.”

Nwoko currently serves as Chairman of both the Senate Adhoc Committee on Crude Oil Theft and the Senate Committee on Reparation and Repatriation.

WELCOME PRESS RELEASE
By Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko
Senator representing Delta North Senatorial Zone

It gives me immense pleasure to warmly welcome His Excellency the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the National Chairman of our great party, distinguished leaders, stakeholders, and all invited guests to this historic occasion, the official reception of the Governor, of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, and other distinguished members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

As one who had the honour of making the transition earlier, fully settling into the progressive family with the singular aim of repositioning our dear Delta North and beloved Anioma nation, I am deeply encouraged by today’s development.

Our people can no longer afford to be left in the margins of national politics; rather, we must stand as key stakeholders at the very centre where decisions are made, where opportunities are created, and where the future of Nigeria is being shaped.

The movement of the Governor, former Governor, and the broader political structure into the APC is not only significant, it is profoundly symbolic. It marks the dawn of a new, vibrant era where progressive politics will foster greater development, inclusiveness, and prosperity for our people.

With tremendous optimism, I welcome all our new members into the APC family. Together, we will build a stronger New Delta, a prouder Anioma, and a better Nigeria.

Once again, welcome to a new beginning.
