Senate endorses Ned Nwoko’s Petition for N200m Compensation to Family of Child killed by stray-bullet in Delta NDLEA Operation

The Nigerian Senate has recommended the payment of N200 million compensation to the family of Ivan Onose Omhonrina, the two-year-old boy tragically killed by a stray bullet allegedly fired by an operative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during a raid on a drug joint in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The resolution followed a petition presented by Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, the lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District, who has consistently championed justice for the family since the tragic incident occurred on July 13, 2023.

The incident, which sparked widespread outrage and grief across Delta and beyond, occurred when NDLEA officers stormed a suspected drug hotspot. In the course of the operation, bullets pierced through a nearby shop belonging to the mother of the children, striking Ivan in the abdomen and injuring his younger brother, Eromonsele, in the eye. Both were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) for emergency surgery, but sadly, Ivan could not be saved.

Bringing the matter formally to the attention of the Senate, Senator Ned Nwoko, presented a petition on behalf of the bereaved family, and followed it up through all legislative channels until it was taken up by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, chaired by Senator Neda Imasuen.

Following the committee’s investigation and deliberations, the report was submitted to the full Senate. During plenary, on Thursday, senators observed a minute of silence in honour of the deceased toddler before adopting the recommendation that the NDLEA pay N200 million as compensation to the family for the loss and trauma suffered.

ECOWAS COURT DISMISSES REVISION OF JUDGMENT APPLICATION FILED BY NIGERIA

The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS has delivered its judgment in Case No. ECW/CCJ/APP/56/21/REV, brought by the Federal Republic of Nigeria requesting the Court to revise its decision in the case of Gregory J. Todd v Federal Republic of Nigeria in which Judgment No. ECW/CCJ/JUD/41/23 was delivered by the Court on 6 November 2023.

In the original judgment in the case of Gregory J. Todd v Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Court held that Nigeria violated Mr Gregory Todd’s freedom of movement when his passport was unreasonably and arbitrarily seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The Court ordered the payment of ten thousand US dollars ($10,000) to Mr Gregory Todd as damages and dismissed all other claims.

In a post-judgment application based on Article 92 and 93 of the Rules of the Court, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, sought a revision of Judgment No. ECW/CCJ/JUD/41/23 on grounds of alleged new facts which came into its knowledge on 5 April 2024, after the Court had delivered its judgment on 6 November 2023. However, instead of providing new fact and its supporting evidence, it stated and elaborated three points of law as grounds for its request for revision:

That the Court acted beyond its legal powers by recognising, Mr Gregory Todd, a foreign national’s human rights application under Article 10(d) of the Protocol of the Court.

That the Court improperly assumed appellate jurisdiction over decisions of Nigerian domestic courts by hearing the human rights application of Mr Gregory Todd.

That Mr Gregory Todd’s human rights application to the ECOWAS Court was inadmissible as the matter had already been conclusively determined by the Federal High Court of Abuja, thereby precluding its re-litigation under the doctrine of res judicata.

On jurisdiction, the Court affirmed it had jurisdiction to hear the matter under Article 27 of the Court’s Protocol (as amended), which grants the Court power to consider applications for revision of its judgments upon the discovery of new facts of a decisive nature.

However, the Court held that that Nigeria’s application for revision was inadmissible as the grounds outlined in the application did not constitute new facts within the meaning of Article 27 of the Court’s Protocol. The Court determined that all the issues raised in the revision application had already been raised by Nigeria in the original proceedings and clearly dealt with in the judgment delivered on 6 November 2023.

Therefore, the Court held that the request for revision had no legal basis, was inadmissible under Article 27 of the Protocol of the Court (as amended) and constituted an abuse of the Court’s post-judgment procedures. The application for revision was thereby dismissed.

The Court: Declared that it had jurisdiction to consider the application for revision of judgment; Found that the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s request for revision was inadmissible; Ordered the Federal Republic of Nigeria to comply with the previous judgment which included the payment of damages awarded against it; Ordered the Federal Republic of Nigeria to bear the costs incurred by Mr Gregory Todd in relation to this application for revision.

The judgment was delivered by a panel comprising: Hon. Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves – Presiding Judge; Hon. Justice Gberi-be Ouattara – Member; and Hon. Justice Edward Amoako Asante – Judge Rapporteur / Member

Peter Obi now Nigeria’s most recognized politician globally – Donu Kogbara

By Sunny A. David, Awka

International rights activist and journalist Donu Kogbara has stated that former Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi has attained an exceptional level of global recognition, surpassing all other Nigerian politicians in popularity over the past three years.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV and was monitored by our correspondent in Awka, Kogbara highlighted Obi’s rapid political ascent since he parted ways with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). She credited his independent candidacy with propelling him to remarkable levels of domestic and international acclaim.

“Peter Obi is far and away the most popular politician in Nigeria today, and has been for the past three years,” Kogbara said. “I’m talking about from the time he left the PDP to contest in his own right. That decision marked a turning point in his political journey.”

Reflecting on Obi’s previous political roles, she pointed out the stark difference in public reception between his 2019 vice-presidential run alongside Atiku Abubakar and his later solo campaign. “He ran with Atiku in 2019, and they didn’t perform particularly well. But there’s something about Peter standing on his own that resonates now,” she observed.

Kogbara also shared personal anecdotes illustrating Obi’s international visibility. “I recently visited Sierra Leone, and once people knew I was Nigerian, many asked me, ‘Do you know Peter Obi?’” she recalled. “Even in London, I’ve had Uber drivers—some Yoruba, who you might assume would favor Asiwaju—tell me that Peter Obi is ‘their man.’”

Offering a bold perspective, Kogbara suggested that the only Nigerian politician who might have rivaled Obi’s popularity was former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. “It’s a radical thought, but I believe the only person who could have matched Obi’s popularity—had he been given the chance to run—is Osinbajo,” she stated.

She concluded by reflecting on the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections, suggesting a different outcome might have reshaped the political contest. “If the APC had produced Osinbajo as its candidate, he could have posed a serious challenge to Obi in terms of public appeal and perception,” Kogbara said.

Nigeria Urges BRICS to Champion Climate Justice and Health Equity at COP30

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar has called on BRICS nations to lead a transformative global agenda that addresses the twin challenges of climate change and health inequity.

Tuggar made the call while speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian delegation.

He delivered an address outlining Nigeria’s vision for a just transition and the need for urgent, unified action at the BRICS Meeting in Brazil.

Tuggar emphasized that the health of the planet and the health of people from cities to rural communities are intrinsically linked and must be treated as such, stressing that: “The climate emergency heeds no borders. Just like global healthcare, we fix our own problems when we work together.”

Tuggar noted that despite contributing minimally to global emissions, Africa is disproportionately affected by climate change, citing examples from Nigeria, including deadly flooding in Mokwa, increasing desertification in the north, and rising sea levels in the Niger Delta, all of which are taking a toll on lives and livelihoods.

He lamented that: “Climate change is not a ‘tomorrow problem’ for Nigeria,” expressing condolences to victims of recent natural disasters. He called attention to Nigeria’s investments in renewable energy including hydro and solar and affirmed the country’s commitment to initiatives such as the African Carbon Market and the Great Green Wall.

He urged BRICS to increase climate financing support to developing nations, saying such assistance would enable the Global South to pursue ambitious climate targets while maintaining economic growth. “We believe COP30 must grasp the challenge of allowing the Global South to grow economically while safeguarding our collective responsibility to meet the challenge of climate change,” he said.

On global health, Tuggar warned that the inequities exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic demand a complete reinvention of global health systems. “Would so many children still die of malaria if this were a level playing field?” he asked. “COVID-19 was a tragedy, but also a warning.”

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to strengthen South-South health diplomacy through regional vaccine hubs, biotechnology and genomics research, and skills transfer. The goal, he said, is to prevent climate-induced health crises and ensure no child dies from a lack of access to routine healthcare.

Tuggar outlined Nigeria’s Long-Term Vision 2050, which seeks to integrate renewable energy, urban efficiency, and climate resilience into national planning. The plan includes reforestation and sustainable agriculture projects, as well as knowledge-sharing with countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

“Nigeria has always met its obligations under the Paris Agreement,” he said, calling for deeper cooperation with BRICS to achieve Universal Health Coverage, climate justice, and greater pandemic preparedness.

He urged COP30 to rise above “sterile and toothless diplomacy,” arguing that BRICS is well-positioned to offer a new framework for tackling old and emerging challenges. “Nigeria believes in solidarity, but we also recognize self-interest and nothing helps us help ourselves more than working together,” he concluded.

Anioma state creation: why We must act with urgency and support Senator Ned Nwoko

By CHIBUEZE OLOKOR

The clamor for the creation of Anioma State has spanned decades, driven by the aspiration of the Anioma people for equity, identity, and development. Today, that dream inches closer to reality through the tireless efforts of Senator Ned Nwoko. For this reason, it is imperative for all Anioma political leaders—House of Assembly members, Local Government Chairmen, political leaders and stakeholders across party lines—to rally behind this historic movement. The opportunity before us is rare, and if missed, may never return in generations to come.

Senator Ned Nwoko has demonstrated exceptional commitment and strategic foresight in pushing the Anioma agenda at the national level. His position in the Senate, coupled with his legal acumen and international connections, places him in a unique position to turn aspirations into tangible progress. The success of Anioma State creation requires a unified front, backed by every political figure who represents the people of Delta North.

The gains of Anioma State creation are numerous and deeply impactful. Politically, it would create a lot of political opportunities for our people. Three senators, more than 5 House of Representatives members, many house of assembly members and local government chairmen will emerge.

Economically, Anioma state would empower local communities, increase federal allocations, and accelerate infrastructural development in towns and villages that have long felt neglected under the current federal structure.

Culturally, Anioma State would give identity and voice to the Igbo-speaking people of Delta North. This would preserve our heritage, promote our language, and create space for homegrown policies that reflect our unique values. Local governments and communities would gain increased autonomy, tailored development strategies, and more opportunities for youth and women inclusion in governance.

House of Assembly members from Anioma have a duty beyond legislative functions. They are the voice of their people and must champion causes that bring long-term benefits to their constituencies. Local Government Chairmen, as grassroots leaders, must mobilize support, educate their communities, and ensure that the people are fully aware of what is at stake. The divisive tendencies being created will not do us any good.

This is not a partisan movement, it is a generational mission. Senator Ned Nwoko may be leading the charge, but the battle belongs to all Anioma people. Political egos and party rivalry must be set aside. History will not forgive silence, indifference or sabotage at such a critical juncture. Unity is strength, and with one voice, Anioma can be carved out as a new state.

We must act with urgency. Opportunities like this do not come often. The National Assembly is open to state creation proposals, and the political climate is favorable. If we miss this window, the consequences could last generations. Let us stand with Senator Ned Nwoko, not for his sake, but for the future of Anioma and the generations to come. The time is now.

They are now level with Kun Khalifat on points but ahead on goal difference as the final group games approach.

“Self-belief was the motivating factor,” Aluma said. “We went unbeaten in the regular season, and after that first loss, we had to look inward, correct our mistakes, and reignite the spirit. This performance shows our response. I still strongly believe we’ll win our last match.”

Kun Khalifat coach Obinna Uzor said the early goal caught his team off guard and changed the rhythm of the game.

“That early goal completely demoralised us,” Uzor said. “It disrupted our rhythm and gave them confidence. From that point, it was tough to bounce back.”

Wolves will face Crown FC next, while Kun Khalifat takes on Osun United, with promotion still up for grabs.

“Almost 4,000 Urhobo indigene earn a monthly wage as Tantita operatives and coordinators. From Iwhremeragha to Unenurhie, from Kokori to Oguname-Olomu, from Ovwiamuge-Agbarho to Ugbomro, from Mosogar to Ibada-Elume to Arhavwarhien, Tantita is on the ground through Urhobo indigenes. These communities amongst many others are protecting the nation’s national assets in collaboration with Tantita.

“Every single kilometre of pipeline traversing Urhobo land is protected by Urhobo indigenes 100%. Every community in Urhobo land has been given slots as operatives and coordinators and are responsible for the safekeeping of the pipelines in their domain.

“For over two years now, Tantita’s Urhobo coordinators and operatives have worked hard to reduce vandalism, oil theft, illegal refining, and environmental degradation to the barest minimum. No one, not a single community, has complained about their performance.

“Tantita with her state of the art technological capacity and extraordinary managerial skills has managed to make the work look effortless therefore every ignorant person thinks I can do it just as well!

“Nigerians must understand that people who use socio-cultural organizations are being mislead by the information at their disposal and as such should be disregarded.

According to the Coordinators, the opening paragraph of the UPU publication claimed that a resolution was reached at “a General Assembly of the Urhobo people” rejecting Tantita’s operations in Urhobo land. They however questioned the authenticity of such ‘General Assembly’ asking if he can produce the minutes of that meeting, the notice of the assembly, and the date it was held

“This form of entrepreneurship runs contrary to the tenets of the UPU and all Urhobos must rise against this debasement of their values as we will continue to uphold the values of the UPU Constitution to foster the spirit of love, mutual understanding and brotherhood among Urhobo people, good neighborliness with non- Urhobo people, and Nigeria in general.”

Speaking on behalf of President Generals of Urhobo communities, the President General of Evwreni Community, Chief Ukpebitere cautioned that; “No one should bring division between the Urhobo Nation and Tanttita Security Services Limited for personal greed and interest”. He called on all Urhobo indigene to ignore such publications and continue to work harmoniously with Tanttita management.

Highlights of the event was the vote of confidence passed on High Chief Government Ekpemuopolo, Kestin Pondi, Dr Paul Bebenimibo, and Tantita Security Services.

The motion for the vote of confidence was raised by the national President of Urhobo Youth Council, Mr Godspower Enerho and it was unanimously adopted.

Right of Reply: delegates advocating for creation of Anioma State not abandoned in Enugu -Sen Nwoko’s Media Office

0

Senator Ned Nwoko, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation and representative of Delta North Senatorial District, has strongly refuted claims that he abandoned delegates advocating for the creation of Anioma State during the recent Constitution Review hearing in Enugu.

The rebuttal came in a statement released Monday from his Media Office in response to a report by online platform (Not Vanguard). The publication had alleged that Senator Nwoko failed to support delegates who traveled to Enugu for the constitutional event — a claim the senator labeled as “falsehood and sensationalism.”

Senator Nwoko emphasized that the Anioma State advocacy is not his personal initiative but a collective cause he has chosen to champion on behalf of his constituents.

“It has become painfully predictable that this platform, under the editorial misadventure of its publisher, would again descend into the familiar gutter of sensationalism and manufactured falsehood,” the statement read.

“The headline about Senator Ned Nwoko and Anioma is just another tired attempt by a man who has made it his full-time hustle to blackmail those he cannot understand or control.”

Clarifying his role in mobilizing support for Anioma State, Nwoko stated that all delegates who expressed interest in participating in the Enugu public hearing were “duly and responsibly catered for,” including provisions for logistics, transportation, feeding, and accommodation.

“There was never any agreement or discussion about monetary compensation for attendance,” he explained. “No one was doing Senator Ned Nwoko a personal favour. They were speaking up for themselves, their children, their identity, and their future.”

The senator further stressed that his support for Anioma State is based on principle, not patronage.

“Senator Ned Nwoko does not and will not bribe people to support justice. He does not pay people to believe in their own self-determination,” the statement added.

Nwoko did not mince words in criticizing the founder of the platform, whom he described as “a failed discredited activist, and career blackmailer” with a reputation for “doctored narratives and desperate clickbait headlines.”

Senator Nwoko reaffirmed his commitment to the Anioma cause, vowing to continue pursuing justice and representation for his people through legislative advocacy.

Demand for creation of Anioma state is historical struggle -Eboh, APC leader

As the quest for Anioma state creation rises in momentum, a prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress APC, in Delta state, Chief Emmanuel Eboh, wants members of the state house of assembly from Delta North to show commitment towards the struggle.

Chief Eboh gave the charge in a press interview after the senate public hearing on agitation for Anioma state and other constitutional issues, held last weekend at Ikot – Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state.

The APC stalwart flayed the Delta North state lawmakers for what he described as their “ lukewarm attitude “ to the Anioma state creation movement.

It would be recalled that Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly had sponsored a bill for the creation of Anioma state, stirring nation – wide debates.

Eboh expressed concerns that most of the state lawmakers of Delta North origin had not demonstrated keen interest in the Anioma struggle. He noted that there is no justification for their lethargy.

According to the APC leader, “the passive posture of the state legislators on the Anioma agitation does not align with the unwavering support and general enthusiasm of the people of Delta North who elected them.

“ The demand for the creation of Anioma state is a historical struggle. It is far older than members of the state house of assembly. A movement that started since 1954 deserves all attention.

“Our forebears, Sir Dennis Osadebe, Nosike Ikpo, the late Asagba of Asaba, and so many others championed the Anioma struggle. The new generation of state lawmakers as representatives of the people of Delta North ought to be very serious about it.

“I even read somewhere that some local government chairmen in Delta North claimed not to have signed a document giving their support on Anioma state. From credible reports now in the public domain, that seems to be an afterthought. They may be under pressure. We know they gave their assent. But that does not change any thing.

A vast population of the people want Anioma state. That is most important. Democracy is about people not few individuals.

“The posture of the state lawmakers from Delta North appears more worrisome and unacceptable compared with the council chairmen, who are less independent.

“ There must be a change of attitude by those elected to serve the interests of Anioma people. There should be no hide and seek. Everyone must be part of this state creation movement. It is for our common good,” Eboh said.

In a bold and passionate statement, Senator Ned Nwoko has reiterated his unwavering commitment to the creation of Anioma State, declaring that though he did not initiate the current political fight, he is, however, determined to see it through to victory.

Speaking with renewed confidence and the backing of prominent stakeholders, Senator Nwoko emphasized that the support from traditional rulers, political leaders, women, youths, and the general populace across Delta North has been “momentous, colossal, and irreversible.”

Stating his resolve to the actualisation of Anioma state, he said: “I did not start the fight, but I will finish it,” underscoring his resolve amid what he described as “tiny talks of dissent” from a minority within the region.

He added: “With the amazing support of all our leaders and the people of Anioma marching forward in prime solidarity, I am emboldened, much more than ever, in the renewed quest for Anioma state.

“This explains why there is no whiff of worry over the tiny talks of dissent by few persons within Delta North. The fiery passion of the people  for Anioma is momentous and irreversible.

“The loud voices of kings, leaders, men, women, youths and the general populace, encompassing over a million stakeholders, all demanding Anioma state is too epic to juxtapose with whispers of less than a dozen numbers. The complaints are unnecessary and baseless.

“Our focus is on Anioma and nothing more. Anioma people can never be distracted as their beautiful symphony of a new dawn resonates clearly across the fertile landscape of Delta North.”

Highlighting the cultural and geographical richness of the region, Senator Nwoko celebrated the unity and determination flowing from all corners of Delta North, from the lush rainforests of Aniocha/Oshimili to the scenic hills of Ika land and the vast settlements of Ndokwa/Ukwuani.

He added: “As we bask in the success of our journey so far, I enjoin all to remain resolute in our historic progressive movement towards the creation of Anioma. Let us move in oneness and love.

“We are a people of civility and good breeding. We are the people of Anioma, the good land. We must continue to pursue our desire with the best of decorum, to maintain the clarity of our vision, firmness of our conviction and nobility of our cause.”

In a similar vein, Senator Nwoko expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Anioma and stakeholders nationwide for their overwhelming support during the recent Senate Public Hearing on constitutional amendments, which included deliberations on the proposed creation of Anioma State.

Senator Nwoko described the event, held on July 4th and 5th in Ikot-Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, as “humbling and gratifying,” hailing the massive turnout and unanimous endorsements from across the region.

“The mammoth presence of thousands of stakeholders from the nine local government areas of Delta North was overwhelming,” Nwoko said. “Their strong, united voices in support of Anioma State reaffirm the nobility of our cause and the brightness of our future.”

Senator Nwoko extended special appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for providing a conducive political environment, as well as to Senate President Godswill Akpabio for his leadership during the hearings.

He also thanked members of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Review, the Akwa Ibom State Government, and traditional rulers from Delta North for their full participation and backing.

“The royal delegation, led by the Obi of Ubulu-Uno and the Obi of Idumuje-Unor at both Ikot-Ekpene spoke in one voice in favour of Anioma. Their presence added a historic depth and unity to the effort,” Nwoko noted.

He also commended the Anioma State Technical Committee, co-chaired by traditional rulers HRM Professor Epiphany Azinge (Asagba of Asaba) and HRM Benjamin Keagborekuzi (Dein of Agbor), for their strategic mobilization and coordination.

Anioma state: Participants unanimously support creation at Senate C’ttee public hearing in Ikot Ekpene

Participants at the Senate committee public hearing on the creation of Anioma state on Friday were unanimous in their support for the creation of the state. The event which held at Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom state was a gathering of Anioma people who are desirous of achieving a long term goal of statehood.

While numerous bills were presented for review by the constitution review committee, it was the proposal for the creation of Anioma State that stirred the most passionate response from the participants.

The tightly packed hall erupted with thunderous “No!” chants when Senator Seriake Dickson, South South zonal Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, asked if there were any objections to the bill. Every voice resonated with total acceptance of the submissions made by each presenter at the historic event.

Moments later, shouts of joy and cultural dances filled the venue, underscoring the deep-rooted desire of the Anioma people for statehood.

Over half of the attendees were Anioma indigenes and supporters, many of whom traveled across multiple states to witness and participate in what they described as an epoch making moment.

From lawmakers to traditional rulers and civil society representatives, women and youths, every voice aligned in one direction: Anioma State must be created.

For them, the time for liberation and cultural identity has come. The speakers urged the constitution review committee to do the needful and write their name in gold.

“The demand for Anioma State is not just constitutional; it is just, long overdue, and deeply desired by our people,” said Hon. Somadina Anwasia from Oshimili South. “Everyone from Anioma who spoke at the public hearing did so with one voice, we want our own state.”

Senator Ned Nwoko, the leading advocate for the creation of Anioma State, received widespread praise at the event for his relentless pursuit of the Anioma cause.

He described the event as a defining moment for the Anioma people, noting the overwhelming turnout from various segments of the community, including traditional rulers, youth leaders, professionals, and elders.

“The voice of Anioma echoed clearly,” the Senator stated. “This cause is rooted in history, legitimacy, and justice. We have crossed every hurdle required of us—from documentation to consensus.”

He expressed deep gratitude for the unity and conviction displayed by the Anioma delegation, emphasizing that their continued support reinforces the mandate he carries. Senator Nwoko also paid special tribute to the royal fathers who traveled long distances to lend their voices and presence to the cause.

Supporters celebrated him as a visionary who stood firm despite skepticism. “If you can dream it and are willing to fight for it, nothing is impossible,” Senator Nwoko said.

Speakers emphasized the potential benefits of Anioma State, citing improved governance, reduced unemployment, economic development, and cultural preservation. Many argued that the creation of Anioma State would correct long-standing political and historical imbalances.

Dr. Leroy Edozien, an APC chieftain from Delta State, said, “After over five decades of advocacy, the journey is finally reaching its climax. What we witnessed at the public hearing shows that Anioma’s time has come.”

High Chief Lucky Ikukaiwe, who represented the Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), echoed this sentiment: “The Ndokwa people are united in this call. Anioma State is our aspiration, and we are committed to seeing it happen.”

Legal practitioner and community leader Tony Ogana recalled that the call for Anioma State dates back to 1954. “This is not a new demand. We are simply asking the Senate to fulfill a long-standing request.”

From a human rights perspective, Dr. Omenazu Jackson of the International Society for Social Justice and Human Rights described the push for Anioma State as “a petition for equity and a demand for justice.”

He highlighted Anioma’s population of over 2.4 million, its oil and gas resources, a strong agricultural base, and an educated workforce as indicators of its viability.

“Anioma is not asking for charity,” Dr. Jackson said. “It is offering itself as a productive partner in the Nigerian project.

“Creating Anioma State is constitutionally sound, economically wise, and morally compelling. It can be a unifying act and a symbol of renewed hope in the Nigerian dream.”

As the public hearing drew to a close, one message stood tall above the rest: the people of Anioma are ready. With unity, cultural pride, and a clear vision for their future, they made it known that the time for Anioma State has come.

As the participants filed out of the hall, one could see a people united with a common purpose, a common dream and a desire to achieve a goal for for future generations

Delta North Trad Rulers insist on Anioma State creation, says it’s 71-year-old cry for justice

The Obi of Obulu-Uno and Vice Chairman of the Delta North Traditional Rulers Forum, His Royal Majesty, Obi Henry Afamefuna Kikachukwu, on Friday made a renewed and passionate appeal for the creation of Anioma State during a public hearing organized by the National Assembly Constitution Review Committee in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers from the Anioma region in Delta State, Obi Kikachukwu described the call for Anioma State as a long-overdue demand grounded in justice, cultural identity, and political inclusion.

He reminded the committee that the agitation dates back 71 years, reflecting decades of persistent advocacy and what he described as the marginalization of the Anioma people.

“This is not a new request. It is a 71-year-old cry for justice, for recognition, and for a rightful place within the Nigerian federation,” he told the committee. “Our people are tired of existing without identity. Living without a distinct state is a form of modern slavery. It must end.”

The Anioma monarch emphasized that the demand is not a personal or isolated one but a united front involving all traditional rulers and key stakeholders across Anioma land.

He said their presence at the hearing was deliberate and symbolic of their collective resolve to be part of the constitutional reform process.

“Now, the agitation is getting stronger. That is why we consider it necessary to be physically present at this hearing, not just as monarchs, but as custodians of our people’s hope,” he said.

Obi Kikachukwu argued that the creation of Anioma State is not merely a political issue but one that touches on the dignity and cultural affirmation of the Anioma people, who he said have long felt sidelined within the current state structure.

“Our people will be free,” he declared. “The denial of statehood is not just administrative. It is a denial of our heritage, our identity, and our contribution to Nigeria.”

He made a direct appeal to the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and members of the Constitution Review Committee: “We are making a passionate appeal that you oblige our request to create Anioma State. This is the will of our people.”

The hearing drew a significant delegation of Anioma traditional rulers, whose presence underscored the urgency and unity behind the demand.

As the session ended, the weight of their message lingered, a reminder that for the Anioma people, the fight for statehood is no longer a plea, but a declaration.

Anambra: bridge head market security nabs illegal revenue collectors

By Sunny A. David, Awka

Security operatives at the Bridge Head Market in Onitsha have apprehended two individuals accused of illegally collecting revenue from barrow pushers.

The suspects were caught at the Tools/Ogbogwu junction within the market area while attempting to flee. They were promptly taken to the Bridge Head Market union office for questioning.

Upon arrival, the two young men were handed over to the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the market, Hon. Chinedu Ezekwike, popularly known as Akwaeke Umuchu.

Expressing his displeasure, Hon. Ezekwike condemned the actions of the suspects, reminding them that the Executive Governor of Anambra State had placed a ban on the collection of daily tolls from petty traders, including barrow pushers, vulcanizers, and hawkers. He noted that the suspects’ actions directly defied the Governor’s directive.

During interrogation, Hon. Ezekwike warned the illegal collectors of the consequences of their actions and threatened to hand them over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

Senator Nwoko’s advocacy for ANIOMA state brings fresh energy, credibility to political, administrative equity in Nigeria’s state structure

By Unue Emeka

The ongoing agitation for the creation of Anioma State has gained renewed momentum, thanks to the determined advocacy of Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, the representative of Delta North Senatorial District. A seasoned lawmaker, legal luminary, and development-driven leader, Nwoko has brought fresh energy and credibility to the long-standing call for political and administrative equity in Nigeria’s state structure.

At the heart of the Anioma state creation campaign lies a pursuit of justice, inclusion, and administrative balance. With the South-East geopolitical zone still lagging behind in the number of states, the proposal for Anioma State seeks to address this imbalance while giving the Anioma people a much-needed platform for self-determination and sustainable development.

Senator Nwoko’s involvement has not only reawakened interest in the movement but also lent it a degree of structure that had been missing. His track record of competence, both in Nigeria and abroad, and his ability to build consensus across party lines, make him a uniquely positioned advocate for this historic project.

In the 10th Senate, the bill for the creation of Anioma State, sponsored by Nwoko, has successfully passed its first and second readings. This milestone, achieved within a remarkably short period, highlights the senator’s legislative acumen and his capacity to navigate complex political terrains. It is a testament to what can happen when capacity is matched with competence.

Beyond legislative milestones, Nwoko has anchored the push for Anioma State on a solid intellectual and moral foundation. He argues not only from a place of regional patriotism but also from constitutional logic and national interest. For him, the creation of Anioma is not merely an ethnic agenda but a necessary step in Nigeria’s democratic evolution and federal balancing.

His approach has been both inclusive and strategic. By engaging traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society, and fellow lawmakers from all regions, Nwoko has demonstrated a rare political maturity. This cross-regional engagement ensures that Anioma State creation is seen not as a divisive move, but as a unifying national project.

The scheduled public hearing by the Senate Committee on Constitution Review, set for July 4th and 5th in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, is another feather in Nwoko’s cap. It signifies that the conversation is no longer speculative — it is now institutional. The public hearing will allow stakeholders from across the federation to deliberate on the merits of Anioma State creation, further legitimising the process.

Senator Nwoko’s leadership style combines visionary thinking with grassroots connection. He has not only taken the Anioma agenda to the Senate floor but has also consistently engaged his constituents back home. From town halls to media interactions, he ensures that the people remain central to the cause.

As Nigeria continues to grapple with issues of marginalisation, lopsided development, and ethno-political tension, projects like the Anioma State creation offer a pathway to healing and inclusion. With leaders like Senator Nwoko at the forefront, the hope for a fairer and more balanced Nigeria remains alive.

Ultimately, the Anioma dream is more than a political ambition, it is a reflection of a people’s aspiration for identity, growth, and justice. And in Senator Ned Nwoko, the Anioma people have found not just a representative, but a competent champion. When capacity meets competence, progress becomes not only possible but inevitable.

5th Anniversary: RERO TV Marks Breakthroughs with Grand Celebration in Sapele

RERO TV, one of Delta State’s fast-rising online media platforms, will celebrate its 5th anniversary on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, with a grand event at the Wetland Event Centre in Sapele, Delta State. The celebration marks a significant milestone in the platform’s growth from a modest initiative to a widely respected voice in community journalism.

Founded in early 2020 by Mr. Akporero Henry, RERO TV was born during a period of deep personal and professional uncertainty. From volunteering in Lagos without financial support to returning to Sapele with just ₦6,000 and a bold vision, Henry launched the channel with minimal tools but maximum resolve. With the encouragement of his mother, elder brother, and the mentorship of notable journalists in Delta State, he began covering local events with nothing more than a mobile phone and an unwavering passion for storytelling.

In just five years, RERO TV has grown into a credible and trusted news outlet, promoting grassroots development, youth inclusion, and the telling of untold community stories. Its influence now extends beyond Sapele, contributing to media development across Delta State and parts of southern Nigeria.

The anniversary celebration is expected to attract media professionals, traditional leaders, civil society actors, and key community stakeholders. Okakuro Dr. Anthony Aghogho Owumi, the Omamigho of Okpe Kingdom, will serve as Chairman of the occasion, while the Special Guest of Honour is His Royal Majesty, Udurhie I, Ph.D., the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom.

Human rights activist and development advocate, Comrade Lucky Ighoyota, will deliver the keynote address, expected to focus on the role of local media in fostering inclusive development and amplifying grassroots voices.

As part of the ceremony, RERO TV will honour selected Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) with special awards for their sustained contributions to social justice, humanitarian service, and community empowerment. This gesture, according to the organisers, underscores RERO TV’s dedication to strengthening partnerships that drive positive change.

Speaking ahead of the event, founder and CEO, Mr. Akporero Henry, expressed heartfelt appreciation to all who have supported the platform’s journey so far.

“This journey has been one of faith, sacrifice, and purpose,” he said. “From recording events with just a mobile phone to building a brand that now resonates with thousands, I remain thankful to everyone who believed in us. This 5th anniversary is a celebration of grace, grit, and the power of community.”

The anniversary event is scheduled to begin at 11:00 AM and is open to the general public.

Women Affairs Minister Decries Degeneration of Nation’s Moral, Societal Values

** Unhappy With Horrific Violations of Rights of Defenseless, Vulnerable Persons

The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim has decried the degeneration of the country’s moral and societal values which have seen few months old baby raped, a 2 year old girl stolen from her mother’s bed and raped by several men and other several  horrific violations of the rights of the defenseless and vulnerable persons.

Speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the Knowledge-Enhancing Session on Gender-Based Violence with Faith-Based Organisations in Abuja organised by United Nations Women, the Minister said: “I am deeply troubled by the horrors I have witnessed during my travels across the country, as I listened, observed, and assessed the realities faced by women, children, and other vulnerable groups, I could not help but question how our societal values and moral responsibilities have so deeply weakened. I have seen few months old baby raped, a 2 year old girl stolen from her mothers bed and raped by several men and other several  horrific violations of the rights of the defenseless and vulnerable that reflect deeper societal issues.

“Ladies and Gentlemen,  I have stood face-to-face with trauma so profound that words and the bitter truth is that even as we gather here today, somewhere in this country, a girl is being raped, a young boy is being violated, and a woman is enduring some form of abuse or another. Our meetings do not halt the violence; it is relentless, and we must be intentional in our efforts to stop this scourge which threatens to destroy the very fabric of our being.”

She noted that: “At the core of this national emergency lies a breakdown in the sanctity of the family, the first community, the first school, the first place of worship. Family cohesion is the first and most fundamental firewall against GBV. When the family unit fails, society falters. Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we are deliberately expanding the mandate of the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to prioritize not only the protection of women and children but also the promotion of family cohesion, peaceful parenting, and intergenerational stability.”

She added that: “However, our mission cannot succeed without you, our faith leaders. You command deep moral authority. Your platforms reach into the heart of every Nigerian home. But we must also acknowledge, with humility and heartbreak, that some faith leaders have been implicated in the very violations we seek to end. The media has brought to light cases of young women and even children being abused by persons in positions of spiritual authority; a betrayal not only of the victims, but of the divine trust placed in our religious institutions.

“Permit me to emphasize that no clerical title, robe, or pulpit should shield wrongdoing. Faith-Based Organizations must rise to the highest standards of accountability, transparency, and protection. You must institute clear codes of conduct, survivor-sensitive redress mechanisms, and a zero-tolerance stance for abuse within your ranks. This is not an attack on faith; it is a defence of its sanctity.”

The Minister insisted that: “Beyond institutional reform, your role in shaping the national consciousness is irreplaceable. You are uniquely placed to: Promote the popularization of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act 2015 and the Child Rights Act (CRA) 2003 across your jurisdictions

“Use your sermons and teachings to confront cultural norms that excuse or perpetuate violence amongst others.”

She disclosed that: “In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda, the Ministry is working assiduously to: Expand safe spaces, referral pathways, and trauma services for survivors of GBV through partnerships with the private sector

“Work towards establishing a National Social Protection Agency to address the broader vulnerabilities of women, children, and families

“And anchor family cohesion as a central pillar of social protection and national development.”

She asked them to let their places of worship and religious platforms become citadels of protection and moral clarity, stressing that: “Let us teach our communities that no faith condones abuse, no scripture justifies violence, and no tradition must override human dignity.”

Sulaiman-Ibrahim appealed to them: “Let us turn today’s conversation into tomorrow’s transformation. Together, we can build a Nigeria where faith uplifts, family unites, and no woman or child is left behind.”

Earlier, the UN Women Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Ms. Beatrice Eyong, in her opening remarks, said: “As we gather here today, we are reminded that GBV remains one of the most persistent and devastating human rights violations globally. According to the World Health Organisation, nearly 1 in 3 women worldwide has experienced physical or sexual violence in her lifetime – most often at the hands of an intimate partner.

“In Nigeria, data from the 2018 National Demographic and Health Survey paints a grim picture. 30% of women aged 15 to 49 have experienced physical violence since age 15, and 9% have been subjected to sexual violence. Recent evidenceshows that the cases of GBV have grown beyond these statistics because of the violent conflict across the country, socio-economic downturns and slow recovery from COVID-19.”

She noted that: “Behind each statistic is a name, a face, a story. A young girl married off before her body is ready. A woman battered into silence in her own home. A survivor ridiculed for seeking justice. Across the country, the scars are visible; broken families, school dropouts, mental health trauma, and cycles of violence that continue across generations.

Eyong while acknowledging that Nigeria has made significant progress with the passage of landmark laws like the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act 2015 and the Child Rights Act 2003, she noted that “we must confront a hard truth: laws alone are not enough. The gap between legislation and local implementation, particularly in rural and traditional settingsremains wide.”

She appealed that: “Dear religious leaders, your participation here is not only timely — it is essential.

“Whether in churches or mosques, on pulpits or minbars, in homes or on the airwaves — your voices carry immense authority. You are custodians of moral values, spiritual guides, and trusted conflict resolvers. You shape social norms. You influence hearts and minds. And you can either sustain or challenge the deeply rooted gender inequalities that often enable violence.

“The scriptures of both Christianity and Islam teach the sanctity of life, the dignity of every human being, and the responsibility to protect the vulnerable. The Bible reminds us that “whatever you did for the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matthew 25:40). The Qur’an proclaims that “whoever kills a soul… it is as if he had slain mankind entirely” (Qur’an 5:32).”

She told that that: “This session is designed to support your work as spiritual leaders. It will provide faith-aligned tools, evidence, and community-tested strategies to help you preach, counsel, mediate, and lead in ways that promote dignity, justice, and nonviolence. It will also explore how religious institutions can serve as early warning systems and safe spaces for survivors to seek help.”

Eyong however urged them that they should not let the gathering to be just another meeting, but a turning point — a moment when faith leaders unite across doctrines to say: enough is enough. Violence against women and girls is not ordained by God. It is a human failing, and it is within our power to change.

Anioma state creation: 10th Senate public hearing, Friday 4-5 July, in Ikot Ekpene

History beckons on the prospects of the  creation of Anioma state, as the 10th  Nigerian Senate  schedules public hearing for Friday 4th and Saturday 5th July 2025 in  Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom state.

The public hearing  comes  on the heels of the first and second reading of the bill on  Anioma state creation sponsored by Senator Ned Nwoko representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly.

The  Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio and Senator Ned Nwoko would attend the historic event at Ikot Ekpene along with a retinue of other lawmakers.

Stakeholders from all quarters including  traditional rulers, opinion leaders, academics, youths and women groups as well as socio cultural organizations have been mobilized to make submissions at the public hearing.

It would be recalled that Senator Nwoko recently set up a high- powered  Technical committee headed by the Asagba of Asaba ,HRM Obi Professor Epiphany Azinge,SAN,as Chairman and Dein of Agbor, HRM  Ikenchukwu Kikagborekuze , co-chairman to assist in driving the Anioma state creation quest.

Speaking on the proposed  public hearing, Senator Nwoko described the Senate event as all- important and appealed for mass participation.

The federal lawmaker said the agitation was in line with  the wishes and yearnings of past and present generations of Anioma people.

According to Senator Nwoko, the quest remained a “compelling historical movement” and noted that “legendary figures like Sir Dennis Osadede, Obi professor Chike  Edozien and Senator Nosike Ikpo initiated the process” which dated  over 50 years.

In the words of Nwoko:

“The  people of  Delta  North earnestly desire  Anioma.Their  aspiration align with the vision of Anioma founding fathers. Like I often say, I didn’t  start the agitation but I hope to finish it. It is a struggle for our  history and identity. Not  pursuit of  personal glory. A demand rooted in our   collective dream as a people.

“I am confident that Anioma would  be created.I thank President Bola Tinubu for his understanding as well the Senate and House of Representatives for their support so far. I believe majority of the states across the South South and South East zones  would back Anioma to become a reality”

Public expectations are high about  Anioma state creation ,against the background  of the protracted history of agitation and Senator  Nwoko’s acknowledged resilience and  commitment to nation- building, since 1999 when he rose to  prominence as one of the most outstanding members of House of Representatives.

He was elected Senator representing Delta North  in 2023 and chairs the Senate committee on Reparations and Repatriation among other legislative engagements.

Senator Ned Nwoko: the fruit-bearing tree that attracts stones -Julius Oweh

An African proverb says that a fruit-bearing tree attracts stones. In politics, success often draws both praise and envy. In Delta State, one name consistently evokes admiration and unease, and that is Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly.

Since his election to the Senate in 2023, Senator Nwoko, an accomplished international lawyer and renowned philanthropist, has pursued an ambitious legislative agenda that underscores his commitment to the people of Anioma and Nigeria at large.

Legislative Agenda

It is on record that Ned Nwoko has the highest number of bills to his credit in the national assembly. He has sponsored bills on education, healthcare, water projects and electricity. Two of the most outstanding bills are the upgrade of the Federal College of Education Technical Asaba to the Federal University of Technology and creation of Anioma state.

His campaign against drug abuse is phenomenal. And so is his youth empowerment programme. If these successes are the sources of envy for politicians who cannot lace his shoes, to say the least, is very unfortunate.

He has touched the lives of the constituents in Asaba, Abbi, Aboh, Ogwashi Uku, Kwale, Ibusa, Agbor, Ilah, Igbodo and in fact all the gamut of Delta North since 2023.

Defection to APC

It is on record that Ned Nwoko was the first leading politician in Delta State to defect to APC. The defection caused earthquake and shockwave throughout Delta State. The PDP was shattered as all the three senators were domesticated by the APC.

There were initial moves by the PDP to reclaim the mandate through court process. But the move failed woefully. Those who lambasted him started singing a new song like parrot. Today, the whole of Delta State PDP is in APC, thanks to the vision of Ned Nwoko.

The APC Delta North meeting

On June 14, Senator Nwoko hosted the Delta North APC senatorial meeting in his country home at Idumuje Ugboko. Thousands of APC stakeholders attended the meeting and it was a huge success.

The APC in Delta North passed a vote of confidence on the president, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ned Nwoko. The APC members also resolved that the three politicians were the party’s candidates for the 2027 elections.

Unwarranted Criticisms

Some politicians who felt too big to attend the meeting started using their political hounds to attack a meeting that was duly constituted. Such politicians are merely living in the past.

The first to fire the salvo was Senator Peter Nwaoboshi who not only queried the meeting but also picked holes with the dissolution of the Forum of APC Delta North local government and ward chairmen.

Standing in defence of the meeting and wards chairmen’s dissolution, a leading APC chieftain, Engr. Adam Emma Eboh argued that Nwaoboshi got it wrong. He said that the Delta North APC chairman, Ogbueshi Adizue Eluaka, was right in carrying out the actions and that he acted within the bounds of APC constitution.

Said Eboh: “The APC constitution does not recognise the bodies so proscribed, and that the party constitution recognised the authority of the senatorial chairman to maintain order, discipline and cohesion within the party.’

Eboh therefore advised Nwaoboshi to be a loyal party member that should obey constituted authorities.

Still done, those pulling the strings behind the scene against Senator Ned Nwoko goaded Dr. Festus Okubor to express disappointment over the Idumuje Ugboko meeting.

Okubor in a press interview faulted the meeting and that it didn’t follow due process.

Eboh countered that the views of Okubor were after thoughts and clear misrepresentation of facts and comments.

Eboh maintained that the meeting followed due process in line with APC constitutional provisions, adding that Okubor was alarmist, ill-informed and playing to the gallery.

Eboh wondered why Okubor as a newcomer failed to read the constitution and making sensitive public statements capable of causing disaffections.

The road to 2027

The political reality on the ground in Delta North APC is that Senator Ned Nwoko is the be all and end all. Some newcomers in APC may dispute that in public but in their closets marvel at the political mileage of the senator.

They are merely engaged in proxy war of media propaganda. With the success of Ned Nwoko, numerous bills and the push for Anioma state creation, it would be political alchemy to replace Ned Nwoko come 2027 in the senate. As it is now he is the man to beat in the 2027 general elections.

Senator Ned Nwoko hosts African ambassadors in Abuja, says Reparations are central to Africa’s global assertion, morally, diplomatically grounded

Senator Ned Nwoko has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to leading a united African front in the global push for reparations and repatriation, as he hosted ambassadors and representatives of African countries at a high-level consultative forum in Abuja.

The meeting, organized by the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, brought together African envoys to deliberate on how the continent can collectively address the historical injustices of slavery, colonial exploitation, and the looting of African cultural artifacts.

In a statement shared on his official Facebook page, Senator Nwoko described the forum as an important step toward confronting Africa’s painful past and reclaiming justice through a unified voice.

“I had the honour of welcoming African Ambassadors in Nigeria to a consultative forum by the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriations,” Senator Nwoko wrote.

“Together, we examined Africa’s shared historical wounds and explored unified approaches to demand restitution, repatriation, and justice for centuries of exploitation and displacement.”

He emphasized that the call for reparations is no longer a fringe issue, but one that lies at the heart of Africa’s moral and diplomatic agenda.

“Reparations are no longer a fringe conversation,” he said. “They are central to Africa’s global assertion, morally grounded and diplomatically urgent.”

Speaking to the diplomats at the event, Senator Nwoko said their presence “signifies African solidarity and a shared submission that our African continent must confront the painful legacies of the past.”

The Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, which Nwoko chairs, was established to drive Nigeria’s legislative and diplomatic efforts in advocating for justice from former colonial powers.

The committee also aims to coordinate with other African nations to build a common platform for pursuing the return of looted cultural heritage and compensation for historical injustices.

The Abuja forum marked the beginning of broader consultations across the continent, with plans for further engagement involving historians, legal experts, civil society, and traditional institutions.

Senator Nwoko stressed the importance of collective action, saying: “Africa must speak with one voice. This is not just a political mission, it is a moral imperative to restore dignity and seek justice for our people.”

The forum was widely welcomed by participating diplomats, who expressed support for the committee’s vision and pledged to collaborate closely with Nigeria in building a united African stance on reparations and repatriation.

NOA TAKES STEP TO PROMOTE NATIONAL UNITY, DEVELOPMENT

0

02/07/2025
The National Orientation Agency has expressed commitment of the federal government to the successful implementation of the pathway to national cohesion, development and unity.

Delta State Director of the agency, Mrs Tracy Ikolomi who stated this in Asaba during media engagement, hinted that the National Orientation Agency recognizes the urgent need for a strategy to promote the much talked about national cohesion, especially how all Nigerians can work together and be united as one, and ensure that there is development across the country.

She revealed that NOA had proposed the strategy and implementation of the pathway to national cohesion, unity and development, which according to her, is aimed at addressing specific challenges faced by different zones, and states in the country.

Mrs Ikolomi said, “There is need for unity. There is need for cohesion. There is need for us to come together as a country and as a people to ensure that our country does not disintegrate. If we destroy our nation; we don’t have any other country. So, we must not allow this drum for war to have its place in our society ”.

She stated further, ”We must engage and empower young people to be agents of positive change and promoters of national unity. We must see Nigeria as a united nation where divisions can not make us to have progress but can only lead to reduction of our strength. We must also support one another and also support reconciliation efforts in our communities, and help to breed peace by promoting healing and rebuilding ”

”We also need to promote trust between ourselves and government institutions to ensure there is cooperation; and promote inter community dialogue, understanding the essence of social cohesion, and reduction of tensions and issues affecting us negatively”.

Mrs Ikolomi who spoke extensively on issues of insecurity with emphasis on herders -farmers conflicts, kidnapping, restiveness of oil producing people of Ndokwa/Ukwuani of Delta North over power outage spanning over twenty years and drug abuse among the youths, men and women, said a lot sensitization was being done by National Orientation Agency with a view to combating the challenges using common ground approach and other strategies.

While soliciting the cooperation and support of all critical stakeholders, and all Nigerians to embrace the new campaign which seeks to address prevailing security and unity challenges, the NOA Delta State Director said arrangements had been concluded to organize town hall meetings in July at various parts of the state with a view to combating the challenges with inputs from all strata of the society.

Mrs Ikolomi urged all Nigerians not to be deterred by the prevailing challenges facing the country, but to be resolute and have faith in the renewed hope agenda of the administration of President Bola Tinubu which will transform the economy and other sectors of the country for the benefit of all.

Anambra 2025: reorganize your team or risk failure, supporter warns APC candidate Ukachukwu

By Sunny A. David, Awka

A staunch supporter of All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has issued a strong warning, urging him to overhaul his campaign team or risk a disastrous outcome in the upcoming November 8 gubernatorial election.

Hon. Gerald Emenike, a political figure from Ekwusigo Local Government Area, expressed concern that some individuals close to Ukachukwu could undermine his chances if immediate changes are not made within his campaign structure.

This warning comes amid growing discontent within the campaign team. Some members, including journalists, have reportedly withdrawn from the ongoing local government tour due to what has been described as unpleasant treatment.

In a letter obtained by The Razor on Monday in Awka, Emenike advised the APC flagbearer to be wary of his personal assistants, warning that their conduct could derail the campaign.

“There’s an urgent need to review your inner circle,” Emenike wrote. “Some of your aides may unintentionally become obstacles to your success. Their behavior could negatively affect your chances if not addressed swiftly.”

He further cautioned that failure to act could lead to mass defections from the APC to rival parties, as dissatisfaction within the campaign team continues to grow.

“I recommend a comprehensive internal review and the restructuring of your team. Clearly defining roles and responsibilities will help optimize the contributions of everyone working toward your success.

“Delegating duties more effectively within your cabinet will boost productivity and ensure each team member is aligned with the campaign’s goals.

“Taking these steps will help reinforce your support base and position you more strongly for the election,” he concluded.

Human rights lawyer Ejiofor urges Soludo to investigate killing of 13 Ebonyi natives in Anambra

By Sunny A. David, Awka

Renowned Human Rights lawyer and legal counsel to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has called on Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, and security agencies to launch an immediate, transparent, and independent investigation into the killing of 13 Ebonyi State indigenes in Ogboji, Anambra State.

In a strongly worded statement titled “Barbaric Massacre of Ebonyi Natives in Ogboji, Anambra State: A Wake-Up Call for Justice and Accountability,” Ejiofor condemned the June 30 killings as a brutal and senseless act of violence against law-abiding citizens. He described the incident as a “dastardly act of inhumanity” that must not be ignored.

Ejiofor emphasized that justice must be served not only for the victims and their families but also to restore public confidence in the rule of law and the state’s capacity to protect its residents.

He insisted that those responsible, regardless of their status or connections, must be identified, arrested, and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. He warned that shielding the perpetrators would only promote impunity and deepen public mistrust in the government.

“The findings of any investigation must be made public,” Ejiofor stated, stressing that justice must not only be done but be seen to be done.

Addressing the broader implications of the tragedy, Ejiofor warned that failure to decisively address the killings could further erode confidence in the government’s ability to protect all citizens especially those living outside their State of origin.

His call comes amid rising ethnic tensions and growing concerns over insecurity across Nigeria.

Ejiofor urged Governor Soludo to show decisive leadership and ensure that justice is swift, impartial, and uncompromised.

Senator Ned Nwoko makes Federal Appointments easier for Delta North Indigenes

While the headlines often focus on plenary debates and committee hearings, it is the behind the scenes political groundwork that truly defines effective representation. For Senator Ned Munir Nwoko of Delta North Senatorial District, that groundwork is beginning to bear visible fruit, especially in the area of federal employment for constituents.

Over the past few weeks, several indigenes of Delta North have secured appointments in key federal government agencies, a development which is part of the Senator’s deliberate and ongoing effort to ensure the district is not left behind in national opportunities.

Among the beneficiaries is Henry Akwunna, who has been appointed Higher Technical Officer II (Engineering) at the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA). Also at NIWA, Nnabuife Peter Moeteke and Elijah A. Onyeshinye have been appointed as Officer II (Civil) and Officer II (Engineering) respectively.

In the education sector, Enudi Jane Nwakaego and Echefune Chiazor Elise have both been offered academic positions as Assistant Lecturers at the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana. In a similar vein, Okolie Mary has been appointed Higher Executive Officer (General Duties) at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), while Kawih Rufus Ugbolue has received a provisional appointment with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

Senator Ned Nwoko, has made it a priority to work quietly through various channels to ensure that qualified constituents are given a chance to serve the country.

Anioma State: 85 senators, others give nod to Sen. Nwoko’s state creation bid

As the support base and campaign for the creation of Anioma State continues to gain momentum nationwide, 85 senators of the 10th National Assembly have already endorsed the initiative by appending their signatures in support of the state’s creation.

The crucial move comes ahead of zonal public hearings scheduled for July 4 and 5, where the Senate Committee on the Review of 1999 Constitution will consider proposals for state creation as part of a fresh bid to amend Nigeria’s constitution.

The hearings will take place simultaneously in Lagos (South-west), Enugu (South-east), Ikot Ekpene (South-south), Jos (North-central), Maiduguri (North-east), and Kano (North-west).

There were strong indications that more senators were poised to join in the coming weeks to shore up the new mantra of equity driving the push for the state’s creation.

Additionally, traditional rulers from the South-east declared their backing, further solidifying the growing national consensus for the creation of Anioma State.

The signatures of the senators were being obtained sequel to a letter written and personally addressed to each of the senators of the 10th National Assembly by Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District.

Nwoko is championing the course for the creation of the new state in the interest of national development, justice, and federal balance.

In the letter dated May 27, 2025, and addressed to the senate president and all members of the senate, Nwoko sought their endorsement and support for the creation of Anioma State – a constitutional proposal captured under the Senate Bill 481, currently undergoing legislative consideration as part of the ongoing constitutional amendment process.

Nwoko challenged his colleagues to rise to the occasion with courage, vision, and a commitment to justice.

“Let us be remembered as the Senate that brought balance to Nigeria’s state structure and healed a longstanding national wound,” he appealed.

In the letter titled, “Anioma as Equity State,” Nwoko emphasised that the creation of Anioma State was not merely about redrawing boundaries or political convenience – it is a matter of equity, fair representation, and justice.

He pointed out that the South-east currently had five states, while other geopolitical zones have six or seven states.

Nwoko stated, “Anioma State, to be carved out of Delta State, is a just and logical solution to this imbalance.”

He described Anioma as a region with deep cultural and historical ties to the South-east.

“Its creation will not only bring balance to Nigeria’s geopolitical structure but also promote national unity by addressing a longstanding grievance of the Igbo nation,” he added.

Ndigbo Progressive Traditional Rulers Forum also threw its weight behind the campaign.

In a letter dated May 15, 2025, signed by HRM Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu (Oroko Abia), Diawa I of Umudiawu Ancient Kingdom, Chairman of the forum, and HRM Igwe Sunny Orah, Secretary, the traditional rulers praised Nwoko for his leadership and pledged their unwavering support.

They stated, “Your vision, passion, and courage in championing this noble cause resonate deeply with our mission as traditional rulers to uphold unity and fairness among all Igbo people.

“We are proud to identify with you in this historic endeavour and formally declare our support for the creation of Anioma State.

“Our forum is committed to adding our royal voice and influence to this just cause and collaborating with you in every constructive way possible.”
